A 24-year-old woman named Bailey Ennis had a son, Lorenzo, through artificial insemination when she decided to become a single parent. The interesting part is that she got the sperm by purchasing a $30 “do-it-yourself” sperm donor kit online after using a sperm donor website to find profiles of men willing to donate.

It’s not exactly what it sounds like, but it’s close. The $30 kit included sterile cups, syringes, and ovulation tests; the donor gave her his sperm during a visit to her home; she then used the kit to fertilize herself. Ennis says the man has consented to be her donor again for “as many children as I would like.”
