YG faced some viral backlash for dropping his controversial song "How To Rob a Rapper" shortly after PnB Rock died following a vicious robbery. Despite the optics, the Compton native says there was no malicious intent behind the song.

During his recent interview on Big Boy's Neighborhood, YG explained that the pre-order for his album I Got Issues had already been out several weeks before PnB Rock passed away after he was shot during a robbery. When the shooting occurred, the 4Hunnid founder said he began to question the timing of the song and even had conversations about it with his peers like Meek Mill.

"I was in New York. I pulled up on Meek," YG explained at the 35:17 mark. "I played him the song like 'bro this s**t on my album. The preorder already up. It's weird like what you think? So I had conversations about it because it ain't no situation to play with. It was just the timing... it was bad. It was weird."

"How To Rob a Rapper" featuring D3szn and Mozzy is essentially an homage to 50 Cent's debut single "How to Rob," which also sparked controversy in the music industry when it dropped in 1999. 50 recently praised YG's track on Instagram. Unlike 50's record, YG doesn't namedrop but he does get very specific about how artist can get caught up real quick in his city.
