Trey Songz has dodged another bullet after allegations from a woman who claimed he raped her has been completely dismissed.
According to a report TMZ published on Tuesday, November 1, the civil suit Songz was facing was dropped on Monday after legal documents proved that the allegations were outside of the statute of limitations. The R&B singer's legal team argued that Jane Doe filed her complaint against him long after the statue of limitations on the alleged rape expired. The unidentified woman previously asked the case to be dismissed over the summer, but the judge dismissed the case "without prejudice."
The statue of limitations in California is currently 10 years. However, that law wasn't made official until 2019. Previously, the statue of limitations in the Golden State was three years. Jane Doe filed the $20 million lawsuit in February of this year. Since the alleged incident took place before the new precedent, the judge sided with the defense, which led to the case being completely dismissed.
In the original lawsuit, Trey Songz was accused of raping a woman who he reportedly had a consensual sexual relationship with. Jane Doe claimed that Songz turned into a "savage rapist" in March 2016 after she denied his sexual advances at a house party. Once they entered a bedroom upstairs, the woman said Songz threw her to the ground, ripped her pants off, pinned her face-down on the floor and anally penetrated her without consent. A witness reportedly walked into the room during the attack but quickly left while he was allegedly raping her.
Trey Songz has maintained his innocence in this case and other allegations that were made against him since last year. Another woman came forward with video evidence of Songz groping her at a show in 2013. That case is reportedly still ongoing.
