The man who police believe ordered a hit on Young Dolph has been captured nearly a year after the rapper's death.
According to a report FOX 13 in Memphis published on Thursday, November 10, the District Attorney's Office of Shelby County indicted a new suspect Hernandez Govan and charged him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. District Attorney Steve Mulroy told the outlet that the 43-year-old is the one who allegedly "solicited the murder." Govan reportedly recruited suspects Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith and asked them to murder the Paper Route Empire founder outside of Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in Memphis last year.
Govan's first two charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder stem from the day when Dolph was killed. However, the third charge, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, dates back to June 2021. Police are convinced that Govan began to plot the murder around that time. Govan is the latest suspect to be named and charged in the case.
Following the arrests of Johnson and Smith, Police identified another suspect Shundale Barnett. Barnett was initially arrested in Indiana back in January for being an accessory after the fact. Authorities accused Barnett of aiding Johnson after the shooting. Despite his arrest, Barnett was reportedly released due to a miscommunication and hasn't been seen since. Police issued a warrant for first-degree murder but haven't found him yet.
The latest update in Dolph's murder comes right before the first anniversary of his death. His life partner Mia Jaye recently reflected on life without the rapper and how her family has coped with the loss.
