A viral video showed scientists in Florida opening up a massive Burmese python and revealing its last meal. You won't believe what it swallowed.

Rosie Moore, one of the scientists investigating this snake's diet, posted a video of the necropsy on her Instagram. The footage begins with the crew feeling the python's body before slowly cutting it open. It turns out this python's final dinner was a five-foot-long alligator.

"I actually thought it was pretty gross too and I'm used to necropsies and things," Moore told CNN, who asked if it was a foul-smelling process. "Oh my gosh. We were taking breaks running outside trying to get some fresh air. I've never smelled anything like that."

The scientist explained in the post that this python was euthanized, as required by Florida law, and turned over to a research lab for sample collection. Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes in the world, terrorizing the Sunshine State's local wildlife and ecosystems for decades. Nobody, however, would've expected these reptiles to target Florida's most iconic residents.

Mike Kimmel, a professional hunter known as Python Cowboy, said this eating habit may be an ongoing trend with Burmese pythons in the state.

"I’ve found a number of them with gators inside or actively strangling… gators are becoming a common good source for them," he commented under Moore's post.

Despite the shocking discovery and grim implications, people were quick with the jokes.

"Congratulations, your python is pregnant with an alligator," one user joked. Another wrote, "Shoulda just cooked the whole thing! Woulda been some kinda creepy Cajun version of a Turducken."
