A squad of rap stars were in the building to witness Lil Wayne receive BMI's most prestigious honor.

On Wednesday night, August 7, the Young Money founder took the stage at LIV Nightclub inside the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach to accept the Icon Award at the 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards. Wayne was joined by Broadcast Music, Inc's President & CEO Mike O'Neill, who presented him with the silver trophy.

"First of all, I want to thank God of course," Wayne said during his acceptance speech. "Thank my family of course. My people, my Young Money family but, most importantly, it's all about the fans."

Lil Wayne joins the likes of previous Icon Award winners like Busta Rhymes, who was honored last year, Janet Jackson, Patti LaBelle and others. The award comes after Wayne was named BMI's "Songwriter of the Year" four times during his career.

Weezy wasn't the only artist who was honored at the event. Lil Yachty, Tay Keith and RIOTUSA were named "Producer of the Year" while other hitmakers like ATL Jacob and LunchMoney Lewis were also honored. Doja Cat, Tems and Chris Brown also received "Songwriter of the Year" while Lizzo's "About Damn Time" won "Song of the Year." This year's Impact Award winner was none other than Ice Spice.

As usual, the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards also featured performances from some of the most popular artists in the industry. Rappers like Trick Daddy, Trina, Ja Rule, Too $hort, Ying Yang Twins, Flo Milli, Capella Grey, Big Freedia, Trombone Shorty, Bobby V, NLE Choppa hit the stage to perform their biggest hits.

Congratulations Lil Wayne! Check out a few scenes from the event below.
