Miley Cyrus Says She Gets Emotional Over This Fax From Dolly Parton

Miley Cyrus shared a sweet message Dolly Parton sent her via fax.

The legendary country singer and Cyrus’ godmother is “like a mother to me,” Cyrus said in an interview with W Magazine for the publication’s Pop Issue cover story. The Grammy-winning artist said she was just reading a fax Parton sent her, and said in her cover story interview: “No one else faxes. I literally have to access my lawyer’s office, because the lawyer is the only person who can still receive a fax. Dolly wrote to me to say: ‘How much do I love you? As much as my heart can hold and as far as my arms can reach.’ It gets me choked up. I just love her so much. Last Christmas, she gave me a whole mannequin, done in her proportions and wearing her outfit. It’s so major.”

Cyrus previously spoke about Parton’s unusual method of communication during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. She said at that time that Parton “has a phone. She just doesn’t use it, I don’t think. I think someone uses it for her and does the fax machine through the phone.” She and host Seth Meyers also joked that Parton might send a message “from like, a pink pigeon or something. A flamingo probably delivers it. …with long acrylic nails, big boobs, and a blonde wig. The Dolly Pigeon.”

Cyrus is one of many artists to speak about Parton’s communications via fax, along with Reba McEntire, Bebe Rexha, Kelly Clarkson and others. Parton comments on her communication preferences when she appeared on The View in October 2023.

“Well, actually, I don’t wanna get into that world. I’m surrounded by enough people,” Parton said at that time. “Kenny Rogers used to aggravate about it. I said, ‘look, you know, I’ll send you a message by carrier pigeon if I need to get in touch with you.’ …I never did get into getting involved in all that because it would take up too much of my time if I talk to everybody trying to get in touch with me. So, I just say, ‘hey, fax me!’ Fax me or call me, and I’ll call you back.”
