Machine Gun Kelly is opening up more about his sobriety journey and specifically sharing the heartbreaking way his 15-year-old daughter inspired him to give up drugs.

The Mainstream Sellout artist, born Colson Baker, previously revealed that he went to rehab for the first time last year and has since been "completely sober from everything" for a year. While appearing on a recent episode of the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast, MGK shared more about getting sober and how a comment from his daughter Casie had him rethinking his choices, per People.

"It started with my daughter saying, 'Dad, you know I can tell when you're high?' It broke my heart," he said. "It was the ultimate let down."

MGK added that the conversation happened years ago when Casie was around 11 or 12 years old, but it left a lasting impression and made him realize he wanted to break a "generational curse" in order to be a better father. However, it would still be a few years before he finally gave up drugs because of their "vice grip."

"It took me a while afterward, because obviously drugs have a vice grip on you," he said. "That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid."

The "bloody valentine" singer also recently spoke about his complicated relationship with his parents, from feeling like he "misrepresented" his mother to the regrets he has regarding his father who he called "so tormented."
