Trauma and mental health issues can be overwhelming for many who struggle to heal, and for some that means having a difficult time getting out of bed and interacting with the world. Selena Gomez is opening up about how her own "debilitating" anxiety made her not want to get out of bed "for years" and how it affects how she sleeps today.

The 32-year-old Rare Beauty founder made the revelation while appearing as one of the keynote speakers during Wondermind's Mental Fitness Summit on Thursday (October 10), per People. Where her mom, Mandy Teefy, prefers to "do bed rotting" when she is feeling anxious, the Only Murders in the Building star revealed that she doesn't even like to sleep in her own bedroom anymore because of its connection to her past mental health struggles.

"I'm a little bit different than my mom, because I spent too much time in my bedroom that I actually don't even sleep in my bedroom," she said, adding that she now associates the room that was once a safe space with "such a really dark time" in her life. "Being anxious is so debilitating sometimes. I didn't want to leave my bed for years."

Gomez, who has often been open about her health issues, admitted that part of her struggle was that she "wasn't doing the work" and that "you have to believe in yourself and do the work that will truly enlighten you a little bit, even if that is watching a show for 30 minutes."
