Too Short Names Song That Inspired Him To Start Rapping

Did you know rapper Too Short is a "self-made millionaire who literally started his empire out of the trunk of his car"?

The standout appeared on the latest episode of Questlove Supreme on iHeartRadio to tell his story, zooming in on the origins of his career, legendary collaborations, and more.

Per the podcast summary:

In this week's episode, "QLS Classic: Too Short," the "Gettin' It" legend sat down with Questlove to get into where it all began: Oakland.

"I moved to Oakland 1980. The year I moved to Oakland is the moment I started rapping. It was just like a novelty thing. Got to high school that year, my brother and his friend's nicknamed me short. And they gave me the nickname 'short' because, uh, I was like the shortest person in the whole f****** school."

He continued, revealing the track that fueled his desire to start rapping.

"So 1979, right before I moved to Oakland, 'Rapper's Delight' came across the airways. Now, before 'Rapper's Delight', you would hear rap, but not have a name for it. When 'Rapper's Delight' came, me, being a elementary school drummer, high school marching band-type kid, I instantly heard the cadences and I related it to drum patterns..."
