Morgan Wallen can still envision the moment he heard one of his songs on the radio for the first time.

Wallen said in a previous interview with iHeartCountry that he heard himself on the radio for the first time in Phoenix, Arizona. He and a few others were about to grab a bite to eat, but waited in the car in the parking lot outside the restaurant to listen for his song.

“I was in Phoenix, Arizona when I first heard myself on the radio,” Wallen said as he recalled the story. “We were about to go eat…We were sitting in the parking lot. I think [his radio rep] knew that they were about to play the song because we were just sitting there. I’m like, ‘what are we waiting on?’ But they played — they started playing it when I was about to get out, and so we sat there and listened to it all. I can still picture what everything looked like around that scene, so it was special to me.”

Wallen also chatted with iHeartCountry about the title track of his 2021 album, Dangerous, the moment he won CMA New Artist of the Year in 2019 (he was “shocked and thrilled,” he said) and more. In 2024, Wallen went on to win the CMA Entertainer of the Year honor.

The East Tennessee-born country star is known for songs like “Smile,” “Love Somebody,” “Lies Lies Lies,” “Thinkin’ Bout Me,” “Last Night,” “Thought You Should Know,” “You Proof” and many other hits throughout his career. Find Wallen’s music on iHeartRadio here.
