The Red Hot Chili Peppers are reportedly shopping their music catalog for the hefty price of $350 million, and may have already found a buyer.
According to Billboard, the funk rockers own the rights to the 11 studio albums and other projects released via Warner Music; however, it's unclear whether they own the rights to their first four albums, which were released by EMI. Their catalog is estimated to generate around $26 million a year. A source told the outlet that RHCP may be close to inking a deal with Warner Music Group.
In addition to this potential sale, Anthony Kiedis and company already sold publishing rights to Hipgnosis Songs in 2021 for the sum of approximately $140 million. If this deal goes through, the band will cash in on roughly $500 million for all their music assets.
To put it in perspective, Bruce Springsteen sold his music catalog for $500 in 2021 and Pink Floyd got $400 million for their back catalog in 2024. Last year also saw the purchase of Queen's music catalog for a record-breaking amount of $1.27 billion. Sony Music bought all three of those iconic catalogs.
RHCP's last album was 2022's Return of the Dream Canteen.
