Consumers are boycotting major corporations amid DEI rollbacks and what they call corporate greed.

On Friday (February 28), consumers are encouraged to not spend any money anywhere for one day in what has been deemed a 24-hour economic blackout. Consumers are encouraged to take their dollars to local businesses if they need to spend.

The boycott was organized by Instagram user @TheOneCalledJai, whose real name is John Schwarz. Schwarz said he started the "bold" idea to protest against corporate greed and other consumer frustrations, per USA Today.

Friday's boycott is among several that have been planned by groups of consumers and activists amid the Trump administration's attack on DEI. Amid conservative pressure, major corporations, including Target, Amazon, Walmart, and more, have reversed their DEI policies and initiatives.

A national boycott of Target launched on February 1 following the company's move to roll back its DEI programs. Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network have held "buyouts" to encourage consumers to spend their money at Costco after the company's board of directors voted against an effort to drop its DEI initiatives.

The National Action Network is also planning to lead "a strategic boycott in the next 90 days of two companies that have dropped their DEI commitments amid public pressure." Details on the boycott haven't been released.
