A Michigan man is facing charges after he attacked a Black man for allegedly "staring" at him.
According to MLive.com, Wilfred Francis Hutson IV was initially arrested and charged with felony ethnic intimidation and misdemeanor assault and battery in connection to an attack on an unidentified Black driver earlier this month. He later pleaded guilty to the felony ethnic intimidation charge and had his assault charge dismissed after accepting a plea deal.
The charges stem from Hutson's February 15 encounter with the victim, who was waiting inside his vehicle while visiting a friend. Hutson allegedly confronted the man, whom he accused of staring at him. The man proceeded to hurl racial slurs at the Black driver, prompting the victim to flee the scene.
However, Hutson allegedly followed the driver, who eventually pulled over and got out of his car. Hutson then physically assaulted the man and continued to spew racial slurs at him, according to police.
Hutson and the victim had no prior relationship before the attack. His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for March 12.
