Eugene "Big U" Henley, a former manager of the late Nipsey Hussle and self-proclaimed gang interventionist, has turned himself in after being charged with numerous crimes under a new federal complaint.
On Wednesday, March 19, the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Central District of California announced a slew of charges against Big U including murder, extortion, human trafficking and fraud as part of an alleged conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Henley is accused of utilizing his reputation as a founding member of the Rollin' 60's Neighborhood Crips to lead a criminal group, known as "Big U Enterprises," that "operated as a mafia-like organization."
The indictment alleges Henley murdered an aspiring artist from his Uneek Music record label, who's only identified as "R.W." in the complaint, after the rapper made a diss track about him. The music executive allegedly paid for R.W. to record at a studio in Las Vegas. After he found out about the diss track, Henley and his co-defendant Sylvester "Vey" Robinson went to Vegas to confront him. Henley allegedly drove R.W. to North Las Vegas, shot him in the head, and left his body in a ditch in the desert off Interstate 15. He also allegedly ordered an associate to delete security footage from the studio's surveillance cameras and instructed employees not to speak about the murder.
Henley is also accused of extorting athletes, celebrities and Los Angeles County officials who donated to his charity organization Developing Options. The non-profit organization was mainly funded by the City of Los Angeles’s Mayor’s Office through the Gang Reduction Youth Development (GRYD) Foundation. Developing Options also received donations from prominent athletes including NBA star Draymond Green and Shaquille O'Neal.
In addition to Henley, other notable names like Bricc Baby and Luce Cannon were among the 10 individuals arrested and charged in the case. Henley turned himself in hours after the charges were announced. Before he went to the police, Big U maintained his innocence and asked for prayers for him and his family. See what he had to say below.
