Nearly three years after Ellen Pompeo took a step back from her leading role in Grey’s Anatomy, she revealed the reason why hasn’t completely left the medical series and it's not only smart, but inspiring!

“That would make no sense, emotionally or financially,” Ellen told El País in an interview published on April 13 in regards to fully quitting the show. “The show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024. More than a billion times. The companies that own the show and stream the show make a lot of money from our images and our voices and our faces.”

The mom of two explained walking away from Grey’s Anatomy would be a disservice to her “20 years of hard work” as she would no longer “make any money.”

“To me, it doesn’t make any sense that everybody [else] gets to profit off of my hard work,” she continued. “And emotionally, the show means a lot to people. I want to have an attitude of gratitude toward the show.”
