Gina Rodriguez Reveals Who She Wants Jane To End Up With

Jane the Virgin is about to head into its fifth and final season this year and I'm not crying, you're crying. After the bombshell in the season four finale that - spoiler alert! - Jane's husband, Michael, is actually alive, fans cannot wait for the show to return. When it's revealed that Michael didn't actually die in season three, Jane has moved on with her "accidental artificial inseminator" Rafael. Since the cliffhanger finale, the jaw dropping reveal has revived a heated debate from earlier seasons: should Jane end up with Michael or Rafael? 

Gina Rodriguez, who plays the titular Jane, stopped by @AM2DM to discuss her opinions on the matter. "Girl, I'm living that progressive life, like, why can't I have them both?" She joked, before admitting that she's actually "super torn." Ultimately, though, she does have a preference. "As, like, a human being watching the show from afar, I always wanted Jane with Michael. I think that's, like, grown up Gina is like the nice guy, the guy who's gonna be good to you...you know what I'm saying?"

Her issue with Rafael? In Gina's opinion, he's "that playboy that you're just, like, 'I don't know. I don't know if you'd be there for me.'"

This isn't the first time Gina has expressed her preference for Michael over Rafael. Back in 2016, the 34-year-old actress spoke with USA Today about the debate:

I like the essence of who Michael is...He’s the nice guy. He's kind and patient and so giving and so family-oriented. You know, from the second he told me when we first started dating that he’d wait until I was ready for marriage to lose my virginity and somebody that knows me so well — as a 31-year-old, that’s what I want. That's what I want forever.

Her opinions on Rafael, as well, haven't changed much: 

If you would asked me about #TeamRafael like five years ago, I would've been all over that...He's hot, he’s wealthy, he's got swagger. He is my baby daddy but he put me through the ringer on the show. You know, he broke up with me when I was pregnant. Then he wanted to get back with me. Then he left me again. He toyed with my emotions. He wasn’t really that cool with my virginity thing. So, if you just look at them, I know a lot of young girls get so mad at me for it because Rafael is good-looking and he's just got this essence about him that is like Rafael Solana, you know, hotel owner, damn.

For what it's worth, though, Gina did admit that her chemistry with Justin Baldoni, the actor behind Rafael, was "magnetic...It was super romantic. Super sexy."

At the end of the day, though, Gina says she needs "patience and stability and kindness. I need the nice guy.' So, I think it’s just my age that makes me #TeamMichael."

It's interesting that Gina still considers Michael "the nice guy" after he disappeared for almost four years with no hint that he was alive. Could this be a clue as to why Michael vanished? We'll just have to tune in to Jane the Virgin when it returns for all the answers.
