Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Let's go on a Saturday, Arnie.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
Let's go big boy, Let's go over under on how
many times tonight that I say Sunday over Under?
Speaker 4 (00:13):
I'm setting it at four. Oh, I'm going over. I
was gonna thought you were gonna say a dozen or
something like that.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, that might be the case.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Well, I know this much. We're coming to you live
from the ti rack dot com studios. I can't screw
that up. Tire rack dot com. We'll help you get
there and unmatched to selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack
dot com the way tire buying should be, Arnie. We
got a lot to get to tonight. But obviously the
eyes of our country are in a much different place.
(00:41):
And you broke the news to me real day, get
out of here, breaking down the.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Fourth wall here real quick.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Today was a big daddy daughter day and my daughter
Gwynn and I were we were home alone.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We went and.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Hit golf balls, we went and got ice cream and
we were playing We're getting ready to play in the
pool and I was like, I'll put my phone down.
I won't do anything, and it's like, you know what,
I'll check it one more time. And Arnie tex to
me said, dude, if we did a political radio show,
we would be forced on early unbelieva.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Yeah, that's that's just crazy. What happened to that?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I had no idea. I had no I'm like, what
do you even mean?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
And then when you explained it, of course everyone ends
up going to TV.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Just a terrible tragedy tonight. But obviously you know.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
As we do here, uh, this is sports radio, this
is Fox Sports Radio. We hope to serve as that
distraction for three hours or if you hang through the
burn Man for four hours or into tomorrow morning, whatever
it might.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Be, we hear at Fox Sports Radio. At least.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I don't feel like I can speak for everybody, but
we here with Arnie and plank Man, we got our
focus very much. I'm sure for you it's on. You're
all over UFC, right, I mean you are all over UFC.
I imagine right now.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
I'm watching it. I am tracking that I do have
it on.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
There you go, and I've got I've got a Summer
League game on, which is hilarious. I'm sorry, I have
no beef with the Summer League. But it's always hilarious
how we don't even have like the B teams playing.
And I don't even mean on the court, arny, I
mean on the sidelines. It's like, oh, this is uh
Tommy Anderson, he want a contest to coach the Warriors
(02:18):
for a game.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
I mean, where do they get these people from?
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I think they do a pretty good job.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
You know, I'm not complaining.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yeah, no, I think you get some big names. I'm
surprised just saying today, Uh, the Sega doing the updates.
Homykaz of the start from UCLA was out there playing
in the Summer League. I was talcked about that.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
You know, yeah, are you in or are you out
on the Summer League right now? I watched you over
the Roman rule rundown too much. Well the sight you
number four when I put Bronnie down. Yeah, when Bronni's playing,
I'm I'm all in. I want to see what he's
gonna do and what's gonna happen. And I'm watching it
like it's a playoff game. Hey, I'm I'm not quite
dad into it, but I am intrigued. And it's all
(03:00):
funny because there'll be a guy that's been out of
the league for when I'm playing in the G League
and I'm sorry, I don't follow the G League, and
all a.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Sudden like, oh what happened to him?
Speaker 3 (03:10):
If you're watching one of your favorite college guys who
either didn't get drafted or is fighting his way.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
So welcome to summer league talk.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
But I know, Arnie, you've got tons of Bronny talk
coming up a little bit later on in the program.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
I know you're sick of it. You got all mad
at me last week when we talked about Bronni were
you were pulling your hair out. You couldn't take it anymore.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well, I mean, in defense of myself, I just it's
not that big of a deal to me. I don't
even think the money's that big of a deal. I
think it's cool that Lebron James Son Bronni is playing
for him with him if you could say four and two,
I guess. But there's a reality that's that's playing out
right now. It's one game. If you don't look good,
it's two games. But we don't look good. It's not
(03:51):
looking very good right now, Arnie. This is for bron.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Over twelve from three point line, I don't think I
could do any worse, kun, I guess I can't go
any worse than know for twelve?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Can I I think you could do? Word? Do you
think you could get a shot off in a G
League game?
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Well?
Speaker 4 (04:08):
If against blocked? Is that consider the shot that's.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Not getting a shot off? Can you do you think
you could get a shot off in the G League?
Oh no, let's let's dial back a little bit. Well,
you're saying you think you could do better than oh
for twelve, I definitely could do better than over twelve.
So then you think you should you could get a
shot off if you suit it up and they checked.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
You in here in the summer league, no problem whatsoever.
I've played against Taut like that. I've played against Taut
like that.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I mean, at what are you fifty five? Though?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
I'm still in two leagues that are twenty one and
over right now, and I still get shots off?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Okay, all right, well let's draw with you.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
That means that you are just open to fire away
at Ronnie James, and if you want to, we'll talk
about that coming out.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
I got the green light.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I thought that.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
By the way, where are you right now? I'm still
a Norman. I haven't left Okay because I thought you were.
I thought you were an SEC media day.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
I was till tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
I was all excited. I saw the prediction of order.
Did you see that? I sent that to you.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
You know, dude, listen, you sent me a trade that
never happened. You got to stop falling for these fake
Well that's number one.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Wait wait, that's not the real SEC media.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
No, man.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
I was so excited because they had Oklahoma eleventh.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
I can't wait till they bake tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
They're probably going to be fairly low too. I wasn't surprised,
but it's not going to come out until Monday. I say, Son,
tomorrow's show will come to you live from Dallas, Cairius, don't.
I've got a great connection. We're good to go.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
By the way, Kira's the ace engineer for Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Rader, the man who Arnie and I have to talk
to him and we can't figure out our equipment, is
actually in running the show tonight because apparently Mary had
a party to go.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I mean Mary was sick. Mary was sick, so they
called in Karras.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
So if the show delves into IP talk or old
school isd in just just let Carris and I got
you covered. But we're in Dallas for basically four and
a half five freaking days for SEC media.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
You can do this all in one day, two tops.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I'm telling you what, dude, I hear you. I'm not
arguing with you. I agree. Apparently you can't. Now the
Big twelve just did I mean teams have got in
the Big Twelve? Now fourteen? They just did fourteen teams
in two days.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
The SEC is going to have sixteen teams span over
four days, so that way you can make sure you
get the maximum amount of parking paid for and rooms
at the hotel where it's being held at the Omnium Dallas.
But yeah, nothing official as far as the preseason rankings
on you. I think they'll come out if not, if
(06:42):
not during our show tomorrow night here on Fox Sports Radio,
then probably on Monday. But no, it's gonna be a
it's gonna be a zoo in my life over the
next week.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah, I want to know how they're gonna treat you guys.
Do they just put you in the corner, you know,
like you're the you're the kids table of Thanksgiving or
something to that effect.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
You, Oh, I will. I was a little bit. I
was a little bit intimidated.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Maybe maybe the better term would be blown away whenever
I saw how many stations are doing live shows, or
at least how many podcasts, entities, whatever you can buy.
Everything's at the Omni Dallas Hotel. I know you're familiar with.
You spent what'd you say? You spent a decade there?
For one year? Is that how long it?
Speaker 4 (07:26):
I mean, it's like every year. It's like it's like
dog years. Every year there. It's like seven years off
your life.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
So most media days are set up in like a
hotel ballroom, and then they're you know, they use all
these different areas for breakaways and press conferences, and then
there'll be this hole that nobody ever tries to walk
through because it's radio and everyone's tried to dodge radio.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Arnie.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
There are forty four, forty four different radio stations or
podcast or video, I don't know whatever, forty four different
just shows that will be emanating live from SEC Media days.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Get that insane, that is that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I get the media days.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
So yeah, now you know what it's like to go
from Division three football to the big boys.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Now huh, I don't again, you're not playing Division three football,
the Big Twelve mark, you're not playing Division three football.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
And ai A whatever you want to call it. It
doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
No, you're playing big boy footbook. Hey, I don't know
if you're paying attention.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I didn't see it on the Roman numeral rundown, But
according to everyone who likes to make up fake conference
realignment rumors, I'm surprised I didn't get anything from you
on Florida State and Clemson coming to the Big Twelve.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Where was that in your rundown?
Speaker 4 (08:43):
No, I thought you were going to tell me that
I'm being serious about this. Did I see something about
the Big Twelve trying to poach four teams off the
Big Ten? Or did I misread that? You're just laughing at.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Me, like I'm sorry, Well, how in the world would
you take less money and less exposure?
Speaker 4 (09:03):
You know what, Chris, I can't explain everything off. It
seem like a real report. At the time I didn't
send it to you. I'm like, God, this is Bobby
gonna be bogus. But it looked good and I'd be
fooled for a while.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
You know what, I will instant reaction. By the way,
Jason B. Diamond just tweeting, et cetera. You going to
the home run derby are All Star game war You're
in Arlington because we're there Tech. It's Dallas and then
there's Arlington and there's Fort Worth.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
It's trying.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
It's not far, but it's not far, but it's not
close either. We are contemplating getting seats to the home
run derby. We were talking about it and then I
looked at the ticket price, and you know me, I'm
kind of a I'm kind of a cheap skate.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
You are cheap, you are, yes, And it was it.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Was just say for a weekend where kind of everything
is out of my out of my pocket when you're
starting to and again, like I said, I am a
cheap skate. When you're starting at one hundred and twenty
dollars for upper deck behind the that's not bad, all right?
Outfield tickets three hundred and forty three dollars not bad.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
I'll tell you what, why don't you use I give
you permission to use the Fox Sports Radio American EXPRESSI
car power to do that. Do it, do it, go ahead,
trust me, they'll be fine with it.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Actually, you know what, that might not be too bad
not using the Fox Sports Radio one hundred twenty bucks
to go be at an All Star game.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I'm started to be at a home run derby. It's
not a game. But what's wrong with me?
Speaker 3 (10:33):
I'm having to work a radio show at eleven pm
Eastern Time on Saturday night, Arnie. It's not like the
money is flowing like this salmon of CAPISTRANI here, Okay,
we got budgets. I got daughter. I got a fifteen
year old that wants a car. I got a twenty
year old that wants a car. I don't have a
rich wife like you have. Okay, that's the problem.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
I promise you, Scott Shapiro will sign off on it.
I promised you no problem whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Listen.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
I love doing radio with you, and I've come to
realize this. And I think Kiers can attest to you
have zero power or bull or authority. I came to
the Mike Harmon has more power. I need to I
guess listen. I got a lot to get to, uh,
and you got a lot to get to because you
laid it all out for us here with the Roman
numeral rundown. And I gotta be honest with you. I
(11:20):
appreciate you putting college football down to start things out. Yes,
I think I think it was more you just wanting
to troll me because you thought Oklahoma's was picked to
finish eleventh.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
And that's exactly really why I did it. So, yeah, exactly,
you got it.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
I will say this. I will say this.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
We saw something pretty fascinating happen during this week. Did
you notice the Heisman odds shifted this week?
Speaker 4 (11:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I didn't know. I didn't see that. So according to
ESPN bet, there was a.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Very rand I don't want to say random, but rare
shift in the Heisman favorite where it went, and I
don't know which, how many different books they went, but
Dylan Gabriel is now the Heisman Trophy favorite over Carson Back,
Quinn Ewers, and Jackson Dart. The super book in Las
Vegas started receiving bets on Dylan Gabriel, the Oregon quarterback,
(12:14):
on Sunday. Last Sunday, his odds tightened from fourteen to
one to nine to one, and as the week went on,
they continue.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
To get lower and lower and lower. And I don't know,
I mean, I don't know what's happened.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
I don't know if someone was like looking at depth
charts or if maybe they're trying to find some values.
But make it make sense to meet Arnie that Heisman
Trophy odds would change on what is today's on the
week of July twelve, thirteen, fourteenth, and fifteenth. Make it
make sense.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
I'm not sure lesson has to do with d the
team itself, and obviously that's a big part of it.
When you're betting a highsband, people think it's only about
the player. No, it's about how easy off the schedule
it is. Can you go undefeated, can you put up
big numbers? And of course in Oregon you're gonna put
up big numbers, that's what they'll do out there, so
(13:05):
I could see that. I didn't know that's such a
big bet. I don't know if you want to put
so much money on it, but that's what professional gamblers do.
But I have to look at the schedule and see,
you know, maybe one of the teams that are playing
they got a considerable advantage over now, maybe somebody got
hurt or or something to that.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Again, none of that has happened, Like none of that
has happened. I hear what you're saying, but none of
it has happened. More money, according to this report, has
been bet on Dylan Gabriel to win the Heisman than
any player at ESPN, BET, at MGM Sportsbook, Bet MGM Sportsbooks.
He's attracted more than twice as much money as any
(13:43):
other player offered in the Heisman odds since July fourth.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Wow, now perspective here.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
At plus seven fifty on, it would still be the
longest odds of any Heisman favorite in entering the season
in the last fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
So it's still it's still fairly wide open.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
But instead of making fun of Oklahoma where they weren't
picked in the SEC. There you go a little bit
of a little bit of Heisman talk for you in July, right.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
That's crazy, you would think that yours. If anybody was
gonna go ahad and get a bunch of money, it'd
be like Texas because they're actually predicted to be pretty
decent in the SEC, and you can put up some
decent numbers. But then again, you know, that's a pretty
good defensive league also.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Though, yeah it is, it is, and I you know
it's funny.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
I was in with Mike harmon last night, and in
the final hour we got to some college football talk
and I don't know, Arnie, if I even understand how
much of a difference it's gonna be, and I don't
know if fans really understand how much of a difference
it's gonna be. But Oregon, Washington, USC, UCLA, and the
Big ten Oklahoma Texas in the SEC. I just think
(14:47):
it's going to be very, very interesting to see for
these six teams how they handle that uptick in big
time matchups. I mean, the schedule that the SEC gave
Oklahoma is brutal for its first season, and Oregon's I
think it's fairly brutal as well. They get Oregon and
they get an Ohio state at home. But I think
(15:08):
it's one of the more intriguing storylines heading into this year.
And I know you've got a list on this later
in the program. Yeah, just how these teams handle new faces,
new places, new matchups, new arenas, new stadiums, new travel,
all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
It's gonna be completely different.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
I wonder how that's going to translate to ratings on television,
because I do expect not even just a small up
to you uptick, but a big one, to be honest
with you, and you know those boring sometimes you get
those boring Pac twelve games where cow was playing out
of the Oregon State or something like that. Now with
all these new conference realignments, every week is like musty TV.
(15:47):
Every week, it's like a new one. As you mentioned
UCLA and usc An Oregon, you're Texas, Joe Cooba and
my Arizona in the Big twelve. Every week it's something
new and exciting. So I think fans are going to
love it this year. I'm more we're excited about college
football than they am about the NFL right now.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Now, don't get me wrong, you still got some stinkers, Arnie.
You're still gonna have like a Friday night. Ladies and gentlemen,
welcome to wes Lafayette. As Purdue takes on Indiana, they're like, oh,
I thought this was supposed to be amazing, and they'll
be a night Whenever you're watching I don't know, Vanderbilt
in Kentucky, you're like, wait a minute, but you're gonna get.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
More big time matchups than you ever had before, and
that's exciting.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Company Live Tonight from the ti rack dot Com Studios
tire rack dot com will help you get there and
unmatched a selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com
the way tire buying should be for those that are
new to Arnie's way of doing business. Sends down a
rundown at like noon, and it's always Roman numerals. Don't
(16:49):
know why always Roman numerals. When we come back Roman
numeral two through four. Wow, Arnie gets to tee off
on Olympic Basketball and Bronnie James next on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Don't listen to Fox Sports Radio Radio. Pally Foods Gohea
with Tony Foods Go Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Tony foodsco show.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yeah. But instead of us.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Fatrick
described us when he came on our show.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated what you do indrupting our promo? Yeah,
he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips totally
out of context. Oh yeah, well, after this promo, I'm
gonna take you out and beat you. Let me put
this into context. Shut up.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Polly and Tony foodsco
Show on Iard Radio, Apple podcasts oherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yea, all right, it's Tony and plank In on a
Fox Sports Saturday Live from the Tirack dot Com studios.
You uh, you getting excited about the All Star Game
this week?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Or nah?
Speaker 2 (17:54):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
I'm not excited about the All Star Game. It's not
a lot of musty names out there, and I I
just I'm just not feeling it. I would have been
happier had they done the Legends home run contest that
I would have paid to see. Then it would have
been some good baseball. But no, I'm not excited this
year about the All Star ket I mean.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
You know, you're not pumped to see how the uh
how home run derby goes and not pumped to see
about I don't even know what else you have beyond home.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Run derby because we're excited about to start breaking anymore.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
You don't know, you're not excited about the terrible uniforms
instead of going with the old school.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
But I don't like that.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
I loved the old school, where your own uniforms, that's
what it's about, you know, seeing your team representative. But
that's what I was a kid, right. I don't know
if it really means that much to me now, but
I still like to see the individual uniforms instead of
just the one general one.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
You know, you say when you were a kid. I
don't feel like it's been too long since we made
that change.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
It was important to me, Like I would see Lee
Missilly and you know, we're in the Met day was
the Mets were so bad, it was only thing I
look forward to her. John Stearn's the catcher being on
the All Star team. Yeah, I go way back, so
you know, it was good to see them. You see
the different uniforms and all that, and that was just
more enjoyable than what they're doing now.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
I was watching a highlight because what was Paul Skeen says,
I keep missing what these actual stats are, and I
feel like this would be an important payoff for this conversation.
But Paul Skeen's has done something that like Cadeo Nomo did,
And they showed Nomo in the All Star Game and
literally it looked like a regular season intermural all right,
nor interleague game. It's like, oh, look at that he's pitching.
(19:37):
I don't know Brian Downing from the Angels or someone.
I mean, it's just it was awesome, Like, this is
what we need to do in the All Star Game.
Get back to wearing either at least at least more
of your own uniform.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Than just your hat.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Sorry, this is old man yelling at clouds moment. Yeah,
that's why it's mostly old men. I don't think the
young generation care. I think the young generation All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
They they don't.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
They don't even care about right exactly, they don't care
about the All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
All right, well, let me let me let you get
after it. Where do you want to start here?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
You've got Roman Numeral two on the US hoops schedule,
he got Roman Numeral three on the decision to go
with Derek White over Jalen Brown Shock. Then you got
Bronni in Roman Numeral five.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
I just let me start with Roman Numeral two. As
I look at the schedule, I look at the team
after they be kind of can I just say one thing.
You know, when my mom was around and she used
to go visit her friends, I say, hey, how's your
friend Judy or how's your friend Bart? She goes, Oh, Judy,
she's finished. You know she's too old. She's finished. She's
not she's not gonna make it at an heart attack.
(20:38):
She's finished. Joel Embiid's career is finished. It's not career,
it's it's o v R.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
His career.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Oh yeah, it's you can tell. He just doesn't move
ever since last year. He just doesn't move the same.
And it's starting off again. The guys hacking people out there.
He doesn't look good. He's never going to be an
eighty two game a year ago I went the Philadelphia
seventy six ers anymore. He's finished. Man, he's good. He'll
play for a while, but he'll only play like forty
(21:07):
to fifty games a year. He'll be on the decline.
He'll never be as good as he was. His team's
never gonna win anything. Bringing all the Paul George's you
want and stuff like that, it is o v ER
for Joel embian He shouldn't even be starting for Team USA.
They just did that, probably as a as a favor,
but he shouldn't even be starting right now. So let
(21:29):
me get this right, just real quick. Why did I
stut her? Did I not make myself.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
I want to make sure that you're getting this right.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
A guy who played, he's finished, just like my friend Judy,
just like my mom friend Judy. She was finished, He's finished,
it's over.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Was Judy gonna die?
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Is that what she was?
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Was she finished with life?
Speaker 4 (21:48):
I mean, yeah, she was like ninety eight.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Oh my gosh, Joel embiid. Again, I don't have a
hot take on this, but I'll just throw a couple
facts at you. Yes, he did get hurt, but he
fought and scratched in claude to get back. You go
for the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
I mean, I'll give him an eight plus for effort,
how about that?
Speaker 3 (22:09):
And I mean he has played sixty or more games
in each of the previous two seasons prior to getting
hurt this year.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Look what he's done in the last four or five
years in games played. And you'll see during the regular
I'm looking.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Right at it.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Yeah, and it's not in press sixty six, sixty eight,
sixty six and then thirty nine this year with the injury.
Woooo yeah, sixty eight, sixty six and then thirty nine,
sixty eight six.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Just I don't think he's falling off a cliff.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
Oh, it's well, that's why I'm the Joel embiidick expert.
You could see Chris, he just doesn't even he still
looks as slow and as feeble as ever. From the
playoffs last year. You could see it in them.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Okay, well, I hope that you have this same energy
whenever he's like thirty and twenty on the net, because
you don't have anyone inside to stop him.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
I'm putting everything I can on the Knicks to go
ahead and beat Philadelphia. I'm betting under on Philadelphia and everything.
They're just not going to be a factor. I used
to be a little bit worried since they signed Paul George.
They're finished, just like Jude. It's o veer for the Sixers.
I don't feel bad at all.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
I mean, it's just it's kind of wild because everything
around Joe El Embiid is kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Recently, he wants to play in the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Obviously, he did not play well and in the exhibition
game when he foul out like twelve minutes.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Pould out he found out like seven seconds, I think.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
But he's uh, he's want to win a gold medal
for his son, who was born in the United States,
right and right that I'm not for sure, and your
reaction from watching one exhibition game is yeah, his career
is over.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Well, sometimes you could tell just like I said, didn't
I ask you last week when you met your wife
was a loved first sight? You said, yes, it was. Well,
I don't need more than one game to tell you
that his career is over.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
I've a lot amount of women in my life that
I thought I fell in love with the first time
I saw him. Would be almost innumerable men. I don't
know if this is a good comparison. There's a lot
of leads using me.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
Oh, there's a lot of people listening right now, going
you tell them aar that's right, that guy's finished. It's
about time somebody told you that that guy's on the
down side of his career.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
On the downside of his career when he let's see,
when did he When did he win the MVP?
Speaker 4 (24:26):
Eventually you hit that peak.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Yeah, that would be just It would be like last
year twenty twenty three, he won the MVP, and he's
on the.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Down side of his career. Start going down. I woke ahead.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
I'm like the stock market. I like to predict a
head well, when we come back to the tyrack dot
Com studios. Uh, let's go from one man whose career
is apparently over to one man whose career might not
ever really get going.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
But first, Steve de Seger has everything we need to
know in the world of sports. What's going on? Steve?
Speaker 7 (24:55):
So good to hear you, gentlemen, And just to be
firm your back tomorrow night, on an almost Sunday night
that both.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Of you, right, did you soothe the saga too? I'm
making you work also.
Speaker 8 (25:08):
Actually I request to work on Sunday night.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Go.
Speaker 7 (25:11):
As Chris has pointed out and should point out more often,
you carry no weight in this company.
Speaker 8 (25:16):
And second I.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Did, But I mean you just don't. No, no, we
don't wish you did.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
He thinks Joel Bead's career is over. Really, I don't
know how you define that. What does that mean He's
gonna play twenty games next season?
Speaker 4 (25:33):
No, he'll probably play the same, like forty games, and
then they'll prove all he's done. Everybody will say everybody
will say the same thing that I'm saying right now
at the end of the next year.
Speaker 8 (25:42):
So career over.
Speaker 7 (25:43):
Once again, you quantify it by he's only going to
average fifteen points a game?
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Or what? Yeah, I give you about seventeen a game.
Speaker 7 (25:50):
How about that Joel Embiid is going to average seventeen
points a game for a full season next year?
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Well, in only forty games? Okay, two, I got hold
you the exact number. Forty forty one, forty two and
a half.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
What do you want it is that?
Speaker 8 (26:08):
It just it to the rest of us. It sounds
crazy at the beginning. We just need you to flesh
it out as to how many crazy it as?
Speaker 4 (26:15):
How many did he played last year?
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Chris? He played thirty nine last So when I said.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
That he was only going to play forty games, who's laughing? Now?
Speaker 7 (26:22):
Well, I mean that's thirty point the game or fifteen
points a game. There is a difference.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
By the way, we should point out it's only the
second time in his career that he had played fewer
than fifty games in a seat.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
I guess I was just a genius for figuring it out. Then,
what can I tell you is.
Speaker 7 (26:37):
The genius the one that also said that Dak Prescott's
not going to have a career because I can.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
See it in this one exhibition.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Wow, he's never gonna way row for did I have
a I had Dak Prescott in my five most overrated
quarterbacks in the NFL last week?
Speaker 8 (26:52):
No, I did, So you haven't learned your lesson. That's
your telegence.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Matter of fact, they made I had a career over Wait,
look at Romo thirteen five NFL players are stars that
will have a bad year. DIYK Prescott number four on
that list.
Speaker 8 (27:06):
How about that a little different than his career is over?
Speaker 2 (27:09):
Over right?
Speaker 8 (27:10):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (27:11):
Nolan Ernando's career is not yet over.
Speaker 7 (27:13):
He helped the Cardinals win tonight five to four over
the Cubs bottom of the eighth. He had a two
run single the saved Ryan Helsley his thirty second of
the season. We're not quite the All Star break. That's
after tomorrow's games. And yes, the All Star Game is
Tuesday on Fox TV from Texas. Yet no stars in
this Aaron Judge Show, Heyo, Tony, Bryce, Harper, Pulsekiings, et cetera.
(27:33):
Saint Louis swept a double header from the Cubs, by
the way, because they'd taken the opener eleven to three.
Today that ended a Cub's five game winning streak. The
Cardinals in that one scored nine runs in the first inning.
Winning pitcher Lance Lynn was six strikeouts in his six innings,
and then the Cardinals had to play that game two,
as did the Cubs because that was a makeup of
a rainout game from May.
Speaker 8 (27:54):
So a sweep for the Cards.
Speaker 7 (27:55):
Tonight on Fox TV for much of the country, San
Diego shut out at I had a four nothing. The
Padres had lost five in a row. Miami has lost
five in a row. Miami lost ten to six at Cincinnati.
Baltimore has lost five in a row. Yankees beat him
six to one on FS one today Aaron Judge with
his thirty fourth homer.
Speaker 8 (28:15):
He has eighty five RBIs.
Speaker 7 (28:17):
Yankees now tied with the Orioles for first in the
Al East, and the Orioles outfielder, who was hitting ahead
with a pitch in the ninth inning last night against
the Yankees, did not play today. Heston Kirsted was placed
on the seven day concussion list. He was a late
scratch for this game today after pregame workouts. Bryce Harper
has now homered against all thirty MLB teams in his career.
(28:39):
Philadelphia beat Oakland eleven to five. The Phillies hit four
home runs for Harper, twenty first of the season. Phillys
pitcher Christopher Sanchez was added to the All Star team
for Atlanta's Chris Sale because Sale is due to pitch
tomorrow and will not throw on Tuesday. As for the
Royals acquisition, they picked up what has largely been a
(28:59):
great set up reliever for three years for Washington. Despite
some recent bumps, Hunter Harvey is with case now. Boston
shut out Kansas City five nothing today that ended a
Royal's four game winning streak and the losing pitcher, Seth Lugo,
had been eleven and three this year. And then there's
the Dodger loss at Detroit home run in the bottom
(29:19):
of the tenth. Tigers beat LA eleven to nine after
the Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the
ninth to tie. By the way, Clayton Kershaw at Triple
A tonight did throw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
The Wimbledon Women's final went to Barber Cray Chicova in
three sets. Ludwig Oberg leads the Scottish Open by two strokes.
WNBA wins for New York and la US Women's soccer
(29:43):
won a pre Olympic exhibition in New Jersey, won nothing
over Mexico. And in honor of Aaron Torres, mister Connecticut,
who's not here this evening, we can tell you that
in Summer League basketball in Vegas, Stefan Castle with twenty
two points as the Spurs beat Portland. Portland center Donovan
Klingen of eight shooting from the floor, but he had
thirteen rebounds and five blocks, and Adamas Sunogo seventeen points
(30:06):
twelve rebounds as Chicago beat Milwaukee.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Pick to you, I had the segaway real quick. Wasn't
there because the Dodgers gave up five of the knife?
Wasn't there? A longtime Dodger Pirate game? And the Dodgers
were up by like seven run what was the film
in the nineties, Yeah, and the announcer goes, I'll walk
back if they lose this game, and the Dodgers came.
Speaker 8 (30:28):
That was a separate That was the pirates announcer who said.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Okay, or was the Pirates okay?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (30:33):
But what you're thinking of was like one of those
ESPN Wednesday night games they used to have at Dodger
Stadium when it was a huge comeback. These Dodgers, by
the way, nobody, even baseball fans, can name a single
starting pitcher in the rotation anymore.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
They've got nobody left at this point.
Speaker 7 (30:49):
They had a minor league going today and a guy
we've never heard of starting the ninth inning in relief.
The Dodgers have actually, in the last two weeks plus
thrown more innings from the bullpen than from the starting rotation.
And as one Beat writer said, it's gonna happen, and
it finally came to roost today. They have really taxed
the pitch.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Charlie hoff Is, he's still in the rotation.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
That's what they need.
Speaker 7 (31:08):
Somebody throwing a kN ackleball, who could just throw two
hundred bitches if they Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
May news today just just bad bad luck all the
way around, all right, Thanks Steve, Thanks Steve.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Are you done with him now, Arenie?
Speaker 4 (31:20):
I'm done, Yes, I'm done. Yes, you know it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
I did laugh at this early interaction on the on
the X at Stinking Genius Swan, I'm at Plank show.
Everyone go follow us at Fox Sports Radio. Nature Boy
writes the MLB should add Bronnie to the home run
derby and have his dad throw him some underharm floaters.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Now I laugh at that, but that's pretty.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
That's pretty funny because I don't know if I've we've
had summer league hits. Right, everyone wanted to see wymbin
Yama last year, but so after they saw one game, like.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Okay, we get this, right.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
I feel like a couple of when Chet Holmgren, at
least for me in Oklahoma City, I think people wanted
to see him a couple of years ago. I don't
know if I've ever seen anything like this with the
summerly and I'm sure that we could go back and
find something from five or six years ago where we
lost our mind. But I feel like it's the lead
in every sports sports cast I watch. I feel like
it's the lead in every show that I listened to
(32:12):
here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
It is.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
It's kind of crazy to see how much coverage he's
getting right now.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Yeah, and you know what the worst is for him,
the worst shooting it is you could feel that he's
feeling the pressure all for twelve from three point range.
That's just not missing some shots. That's something wrong. And
you know, Chris, look, I do feel like I mean
somewhat of a shooting expert. He's got his right leg out,
he's got the right knee out. He doesn't square himself
(32:39):
for a shot anymore like he used to, and I
think that throwed him off a little bit. I don't
know if he's rushing it or what he's doing. He's
getting all panicky. He went six for twenty six total
in all the summer league. He's saying the right things.
I guess he said he's not again starting in the
G League. Well guess what, buddy, You're gonna have to
start the G League. People wouldn't even get a chance
(33:01):
of that with the way you're playing this summer. But
he should start the G League and see if he
could work his way up and maybe get called up
if the Lakers have any injuries or or any room
at that point, because right now he doesn't deserve to
be on the team.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
He hasn't said that he won't go play in the
G League. I mean, I'll play wherever they want me
to play. I just I don't know if he's good enough.
I hate to say that. I hate to fall into
that echo chamber right now, but dude, it's a hard
watch because Canect's looking pretty good. There's a couple of
other rookies that are looking okay.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
I see.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
I understand as a shot expert, you understand what he
needs to do to get things right right, but he
just doesn't look good.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
He's had one or two flashes here and there, and
that's it.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Yeah, that's yeah. No, he looks lost out there. He's
certainly not big enough. Also, we're not even bringing up
his size. That's going to take effect that when he
gets to play with the real guys in the NBA,
he's not gonna be able to keep up. It's just
not a good fit.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
He's gonna have to.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Prove himself through the G League or maybe played in
another league like Australia or something. He's gonna have to
do that. Well, isn't that where they were threatening that
he would go.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Yes, yes, that's where they were threatened. Yes, all right,
So keep those axes and submissions coming. That stinking genius
want them at playing. So there's tons to get to
and we're up against it because when we come back,
I do want to go a little bit more in
depth on Roman Numeral four with Brownie James, because yes,
I'm sick of talking about it, but it is overshadowing
(34:29):
a very tough break for a team that desperately needed
a rookie to help him out. In twenty twenty four,
we'll talk about the big injury in the Summer League
next right here.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
On Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
All right, it's already in Plank sitting in for Jason
and Aaron on a Saturday night here on Fox Sports Radio,
Twitter Machine X Machine is rolling at stinking Genius. Want
him at Plank show and everybody should follow us at
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
I did get this that cracked me up from my
man Gunny, he writes.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Listening to Arnie is like watching It's always sunny, he says,
the craziest stuff, and the next day everything is back
to perfect until he starts talking again.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
Oh wow, that's a great show. What do you mean
that's an awesome show.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Yes, and it's amazing, And then all of a sudden
you're like, wait, that's that's kind of crazy.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
What that dude just try to do? You've ended already
think about it for a moment.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, you're saying Joelle and Beats's career is over based
on one performance against Canada and an exhibition a little.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Bit because I saw all of last year where he
was heard. Yes he had the fight back for the playoffs,
but you could tell you just not the same player.
Then the game begets Canada. I don't know that they
should have beat them by like fifty, beat them like
a drum and we beat them by fourteen. If this
goes on, I can't wait to see the next day.
(36:03):
Was that Australia on Monday afternoon? I can't wait to
see how that one turns out. Yeah, they're gonna win,
They're gonna win. Yeah, we'll see, we'll see. Okay, name
one player on Australia. Well, I just don't take our
team is as strong as overall.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
You're so full of crap right now? Where are you
getting this outrage? Why are people worried? Did anyone really say, boy,
I wish Jalen Brown was there?
Speaker 2 (36:29):
That make all?
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Would you be feeling different about Jaylen Brown, whom a
year ago you said wasn't worthy of anything and didn't
need a contract?
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Would that make it feel better no, but.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
I feel horrible that he got left out. I don't
know why they took Derek White over him. I don't
know if it's political or what it is. I know
we put out that emoji of him looking side eyed
at Nike, but I can't fight for him. If he's
not gonna tell me why, if you're just going to,
you know, throughout just emojis and not fully explain the story,
(36:59):
I can't fight for you. But he's making it sound
like it's political.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
I think it's the Nike thing. I think it's the
Nike thing.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
I mean again, maybe that's me falling for the deep state,
but I kind of feel like it's the Nike thing.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Well, if Nike's calling the shots, why wouldn't they have
Caitlin Carr playing in the Olympics then.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Because you are dealing with a bunch of people that
don't understand the gym that they have in Caitlin Clark
right now, and I think Caitlin Clark's gonna end up
playing in the Olympics. Right You're hearing the Trossi injury
and how she's not necessarily maybe her career is over, Arnie.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Maybe that's your next hot day for next hour. But
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
I don't know, but I mean it's we're like sitting
here White nighting for Jalen Brown whenever everyone thought he
sucked before the playoffs started?
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Have you thought about that for a moment.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Everything you're saying about Joel Embiid right now is how
people found about Jalen Brown.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Well, I don't think he sucked. First of all, boss
as the best record, they.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
You said he was not worthy of an extension, that
he should be gone and Boston would be better out with.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
Now talking about that, we said, you know, if one
has to state one's got to go, I'm gonna go
ahead and keep Tatum between between the two. I mean,
that's just the way it's got to be. If I'm
going to ahead and save some money that way. But
they can afford both. He's gonna get the contract. I
just wouldn't have he got the contract.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
I know.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
I just wouldn't have picked three Boston Celtics and one
of them not being Jalen Brown.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Though, is there Okay, this is complete nerd, but is
there something to be said about maybe a stylistic thing
with Derek White with the overseas game and how the
Olympic game is played. I mean, we're seeing we're seeing
a man whose career is coming to an end, and
Joel Embiid right, we're seeing him struggle with it. I
don't understand the nuances. You're my basketball guy here, you're
(38:50):
my X and O guy, So I don't I don't
truly know how crazily different Chris.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
It doesn't make a difference if they put me on
the team. I mean, they're gonna They're gonna go ahead
and win it. They should have taken Jalen Brown. He
would have been the better pick between the three. It
seems political, and if it's political because of Nike, then
that kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth
because I feel like our best players should be out there.
Jalen Brown really did have a great finals. They did
(39:16):
win the championship. Derek White's a good player, but it's
Tatum and Brown that carried that team all year long.
I'd be disappointed if I was him, There's no doubt
about that.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Have you ever been this fired up about an Olympic
basketball roster? Are Jalen Brown?
Speaker 4 (39:33):
No? Not fired about Jalen Brown. No, But I like,
you know, once he put out the side eye thing.
You know, I said, Okay, I feel bad for you now,
kind of like the Isaiah Thomas when he was left
off and who was it that Magic had to apologize
because of that?
Speaker 3 (39:48):
What Magic apologize? Michael Jordan basically said it was his fault.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
There was a lot of you know, name calling behind
people's backs and trying to keep them off the team,
and that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
And it worked, and it worked. I don't think that's
this case with Jalen Brown.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
And obviously he's he's either rankled some feathers or somebody
like Steve Kerr felt really good about what White could.
I mean, who even makes the call? Is it Grant Hill?
Is it a collaboration? I mean, I'm curious, because oh.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
I am curious. I mean you heard gret and Hill's
name mentioned in this whole thing. I don't know if
Kurz actually making the decision on this either, but I
feel bad for Jalen Brown. When it's all said and done, right,
when we.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Come back to the Ti rack dot Com studios, our guy,
you hear him here on Fox Sports Radio, Mark Medina
will join us. We'll see if he is as outraged
as army whenever it comes to the fact that Jalen
Brown isn't in the Olympics and is there a reason why?
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Is there more of a why to this? We'll dive
into it coming up in hour two. It's you heard
the man.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
You heard the man.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
We're coming to you live from the tyrack dot com studios.
Tyrack dot com will help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way tire buying
should be. That's Arnie Spaniard. I'm Chris Blank. We're sitting
in for the guys tonight and we're pun to be
joined by guy who's basically become our NBA insider, our
(41:16):
Summer League guru, our Olympic historian.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
If you will. Mark Medina is in the house.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
Mark.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
Are you surprised Arnie was fired up about it? I've
heard throughout the day people fired up about it. Are
you surprised by the reaction to Derek White getting selected
over Jalen Brown.
Speaker 5 (41:32):
I'm not surprised about the reaction. I mean, Jalen Brown
one Finals MVP. He's a better player than Derek White.
I mean, Derek White's very valuable to the Celtics, but
not surprised at all, especially in the fact that Jalen
Brown made his feelings known and suspicion that Nike had
something I do with it. To be clear, I don't
think Nike has everything to do with it, but it
(41:53):
is surprising because Jalen Brown's clear the better player. But
I can go in depth if you're interested in why
this happened the way.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
It did well.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
Isn't it because Jaylen Brown put out a tweet of
criticizing Nike a couple of years ago or subject did
that effect?
Speaker 5 (42:11):
I don't think it's it's like that at all. I mean,
Steph Curry is an under armour guy. I don't think
it's about you know, the Nike team winning gold. It's
you know, if this was an All Star team, it
would be about Jalen Brown. And I'm saying this that
he should be on the team. But I think what
Team USAY calculated were a few things. They very much
valued some continuity because that's a disadvantage they have against
(42:36):
you know, the other international teams. And Derek White played
a really good role in the Tokyo Olympics. He also
can do everything. And I think the last thing is
that they felt like he was more he would be
more flexible to adjust to different roles playing time than
someone like Jalen Brown would.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Now, look who's they, by the way, Mark, who's they,
Grant Hill.
Speaker 5 (42:59):
Steve Kerr, people of the USA Basketball.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
Okay, they're not saying this.
Speaker 5 (43:04):
This is my educated guess, but I will say that
I think Jalen Brown has shown he's more than a
high volume shooter. He's more efficient as a passer. I mean,
he's won finals MVP mostly because of why he defended
Luka Dantic and I think that he would understand that
if he's not starred here for his minutes or fluctuating,
it's because he's on the Olympic team. And really, if
(43:26):
you break it down, assuming Kevin Durant comes back from
his injury, and Lebron James and Steph Stephan Curry, everyone
else's role is subject to change because they have that
much stepth But I think relatively speaking, they just had
a better comfort level that Derek White would be more
amenable to all those circumstances than Jaylen Brown would.
Speaker 3 (43:46):
I agree, I agree but it's going to be fun
to watch how those I don't know, will the rotations
tighten up? I mean, I don't care who starts, but
it feels like that it's pretty open. Maybe Lebron James
and maybe Steph Curry are the locked in stars. How
fluid is this potential lineup looking right now for Team USA?
Speaker 5 (44:05):
Steve Kerris DRESSA, it's fluid game to game. I mean,
I think the most low hanging fruit is whether Kevin
Durant is going to come back. He missed another practice
now they're in Abu Dhabi, and that was a much
different message than what Steve Kerr conveyed when they were
in Las Vegas. They projected optimism that he would definitely
(44:26):
play against Australia next Tuesday. Now that's up in the air.
So that's low hanging for number one. But assuming Durant
comes back at least at some point, I think the
only defensive starters are Lebron, Steph and Durant. And if
I had a guess, and again this is just a guest,
but I think Joe Elbeide will be the incumbent starter
(44:49):
at center, and then Drew Holliday Joel abe because he's
more of a physical guy that can go up against
other bigs in CIBA. And then Drew Holliday is you're
also utility two way player that can do everything that
the other guys aren't doing. But I want to be surprised.
There's times Athy Edwards starts, maybe even Devin Booker just
(45:09):
to give additional scoring punch. But if I had a guess,
I think it's most likely the starting lineup that I
aligned before, and Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards would be
the primary scorers off the bench marky.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
First of all, it's funny because I mean, if you
look at who's going to give us the biggest challenge,
it's probably going to be Canada. We just played them,
So is Canada the biggest challenge or is there somebody
I'm missing out there?
Speaker 5 (45:35):
Well, I think you could say Greece because the Anathant Decompo.
I think you could say France because they have Rudy
Gobert and Victor Wembanama and Nicholas Batoum. I would say
France would probably be the most challenging team because they
have a lot of front core depth and they challenge
the US and the Gold medal game in Tokyo. But
(45:57):
I think it is going to be a much different outcome.
I think it's like the Dream Team where they're defeating
the opponents fifty plus points and you know, their opponents
want to take selfies with them afterwards. But I think
assuming there's no major injuries and they you know, play
the right way, the US is going to win. They
(46:17):
have their top guys on this tune and that's much
different than what happened last year to Yeah, last year
with Steva, they had you know, good players, but it
wasn't their top guys.
Speaker 1 (46:28):
You know.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
It's it's always challenging, I think to get past the
brownie talk because it's just so omnipresident's everywhere. But I
felt like there was this story out of the Summer
League yesterday involving Drawn Holmes and his torn achilles that
I mean, that's a player that the Nuggets we'll see.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
I mean, he's out for this year, right, But it seemed.
Speaker 5 (46:48):
Like, oh yeah, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
Yeah, it seemed like it was a guy though they
were relying on a little bit.
Speaker 3 (46:53):
I mean, you just don't trade to get a first
round pick when you're a team that's been in the
title chase for a while and just him away. I mean,
it seemed like John Holmes was expected to be a
player for them this year. How much does that hurt Denver?
Speaker 5 (47:06):
Oh, it hurts the Nuggets a lot. I mean, to
your point, this is a player that they were going
to plan, that they were hoping to play a lot
of minutes, and no doubt, obviously it starts with Nikole Joka,
jen Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Junior. But ever since
they won the title, they've been losing a lot of
key role players. I mean, the most notable absence of
past offseason was Contavious Callwell prope going to Orlando. You
(47:29):
rewind back last year, they didn't retain Bruce Brown. It'sh
Smith left left. I mean, they re signed DeAndre Jordan,
but he's not the DeAndre Jordan of the Lot City Clippers.
He's playing limited minutes. So yeah, this is a huge
blow that Deron Holmes had that achilles injury. Obviously, to
a man, it's terrible because he hasn't even played basketball yet,
(47:49):
and you know achilles injuries, you can always assume its
season ended because it requires at least eight months to
come back. So yeah, very stat across the board and
not over stated. This is going to really hinder the
Nuggets with you know what their playoffs seating will be
next season.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
Mark, that'll me make sense to this Jalen Bruns and contract.
Did he really leave all that money on the table?
He left one hundred and thirteen million, But he's going
to recoup some of that if he resigned or in
what twenty twenty eight or twenty twenty nine, he'll get
like three hundred and twenty three million or four year
eighteen million.
Speaker 2 (48:25):
And I don't know.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
The numbers are making my head spin. How much money
did he really leave on the table? Is what I
really want to know, Mark, Well.
Speaker 5 (48:33):
He left significant amount. I mean he let's be clear here,
he also made a lot of money with this extension.
But if my number serve correct, he could have gotten
a one hundred and thirteen million or one hundred and
he got one hundred and fifty six and a half million.
That's one hundred and thirteen million less than he would
(48:55):
have gotten if he waited for another year. To your point,
he can recoup that. But I will say this, nothing's
ever guaranteed in the NBA. If an injury happens, or
just things happen where he's not the same player that
he once was. The idea that he'll automatically recoup that
doesn't necessarily happen. So again, we're not talking about you know,
(49:19):
you and I taking a relative salary cut here. He's
still making a lot of money. But I think, just
knowing how you know, players a lot of times think okay,
I should take as much as I can because you
never know what will happen in the next contract. It
does say a lot about, you know, his trust in
the organization and the partnership that he's had and his
(49:42):
feeling that, you know what, we're all in this together.
And I'm not going to pretend like is you know,
New York's like next hero here, but you know, given
the landscape of where professional sports are, I think within
the organization that did provide a sign of the strength
and trust in each other as they move.
Speaker 2 (50:04):
Forward, Isn't it? Isn't it? Wild man?
Speaker 3 (50:08):
We've seen the Knicks be so well awful, let's just
face it, a team building and then over the last
couple of years, I don't know what's clicked. What have
you seen Mark that's led to New York making whyse
basketball decisions.
Speaker 5 (50:23):
Well, it's a bunch of things. It starts with James
Dolan is now not being involved, and you know we've
seen when he gets involved a lot of times dynamite
blows up. But I think, you know, as far as
how the front office looks at things, you know, with
all the changes they've made, you know, with different general
managers over the years, they finally nailed on this concept
(50:45):
even in New York. It's better to have a quality
team than trying to chase a superstar. So that's number one.
Number two, you know, Jalen Brunson I think can qualify
as you know, an All Star one A and the
same thing with Julius Randall. And then they have a
great supporting cast and they have great coaching with Tom Thibodeaux.
(51:06):
So it all ties together. Where the common identity with
all these players and TIBs they're hard working. They make
zero excuses. The fact that they're even able to make
a deep playoff push last season even though they had
all those injuries as a testament that they're always going
to overachieve, and I suspect that they'll do the same
(51:26):
this season. Now that you know they're going to be healthier,
and they got in the caail bridges to add to
that depth.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
We know that the.
Speaker 4 (51:34):
Baseball Major League Union went ahead and said something when
I think it was a rod One that signed for
a little bit less you think the union had even
say that, Jaylen, if you took the what he took
this much lesser?
Speaker 5 (51:44):
What. Yeah, that's a tough one because I think one
of the philosophies the players Union wants to have is
empower players to make choices that are best for them
and their family and what their basketball priorities are. I
think philosophically, you know, there might be mixed feelings about,
(52:04):
you know, just granting an organization extra financial relief. But
I think when you look at the history of the NBA,
from the studios in law to their players credit, a
lot of players are willing to do that if they
know it's about making, you know, the basketball team better.
(52:24):
So we look at the Lakers, for example, Lebron James,
you know, only took a little bit of a discount
just to get to the second APRAM, but he was
willing to take a greater discount if they actually got
a guy because that meant it was about making the
team better. It wasn't about saving the ownership group money.
And I know that some of us rolled our eyes
if if Lebron really meant that, But when he looked
(52:46):
at when he went to Miami, he did it because
he was very well aware that if he and Chris
Bosh and Dwayne Wade took some salary cuts it would
help Miami, uh, you know, build a better roster. But
that also has to tie on whether they trust management
to do that. I think after that, when he was
with Cleveland, he refused to take a pay cup because
(53:09):
he didn't always trust Dan Gilbert to make the right decisions.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
Yeah, I'll leave the Lebron and Bronni question to Arnie
because I wanted to ask you about a guy that
I was watching.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
I think this was earlier today.
Speaker 3 (53:20):
Boys, Van Castle's got a chance now again eight for
twenty one from the floor. But you think about Chris
Paul being there now in San Antonio, got wymbin Yama
who just continues to improvesen. I don't know if San
Antonio has got like a three year plan or what,
But man, I liked what I saw from Castle.
Speaker 5 (53:38):
Yeah, I mean he's a very aggressive player. I remember
talking to, you know, some different executives before the draft.
They really felt like he had a pretty well balanced
skill set where he can be, you know, kind of
a jack of all trades type of player, where he's
a good shooter, good passer, good playmaker. You know, obviously
he's a young player, but the fact that you know
(54:01):
he has a lot threat and victor one Banama, now
they have Chris Paul, this is going to be a
really good basketball team that will be ready to make
a playoff push.
Speaker 4 (54:11):
All right, let's get to the Bronny question. We've gone
to three games now, oh for twelve from three point range.
That's just not going to cut it. Obviously, six for
twenty six overall. He said he's opened to play in
anywhere after the summer anywhere. It's probably going to be
the G League. I can't see him sticking with the
Slaker roster when they break for when they break for
the season.
Speaker 5 (54:33):
Yeah, that's I think what was going to be the
most likely outcome. And I was talking to some people
at Summer League after Bronnie's game and they interpreted, you know,
this whole situation when you know Rich Paul, let it
be no no, well, he's not going to take a
two way deal. He saw that as not something that
(54:53):
suggested though Bronni doesn't want to play in the G
League or won't accept it. It was just about trying
to secure a guarantee he'd contract for a second round
pick as opposed to going undrafted. So you know, there's
people around the league that aren't surprised that Browny was
open to this now that he has the guaranteed deal.
And look, whether you're okay with them drafting Brownie or
(55:16):
not okay because of all the political maneuverings behind the scenes,
with you know, obviously Lebron's influence. The reality is, if
he's going to go down this path, he needs to
play to develop more. But the problem is the Lakers
are professional team. They got to win games, and so
the best route is for him to play as many
games as he can in summer league, as much preseason
(55:38):
run as he can, and then once the actual season starts,
make his way to the South Bay Lakers.
Speaker 3 (55:44):
How much work is getting done right now in Vegas, Mark,
I mean, I know coaches aren't coaching these games GMS,
or of course I'm watching Mike Dunleavy Junior right now
during this Golden State Phoenix game, he's on the TV broadcast.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
How much is getting done right now?
Speaker 5 (56:01):
Well, I don't think any deals really are getting done.
That's partly because most of free agency always gets solidified
first few weeks of July. You know, the second apron
has made teams more paralyzed this offseason. But I think
with Summer League, what is getting done is a few
(56:21):
things they are evaluating, you know, their young prospects. G
League invites guys they want to get for that training camp.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
You know.
Speaker 5 (56:28):
The Board of Governors meeting will be next week, so
that's when the owners you know, rally around Adam Silver
and share their misgivings about different issues and then we
see what policies they make there. So yeah, Vegas is
a really good hub because they have certain buildings that
allow for certain fun recreational activities. But there's a lot
(56:52):
of getting done behind the scenes, just not as far
as roster building.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
At Mark g Underscore in Medina. You can follow on Twitter.
We appreciate his time here on Fox Sports Radio. Enjoy
the night, Mark, Thanks for the insight.
Speaker 5 (57:05):
I appreciate you guys always.
Speaker 3 (57:07):
Thickey to dot Com he's all over here giving us
the insight and analysis we need from Summer League. You
haven't watched any of Summer League, have you? Outside of
when Lebron when Brownie plays right.
Speaker 4 (57:18):
I'll actually a little bit of it. I'll put on
the game. Yeah, I'll watch a little bit of it,
but not a whole heck of a lot.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
I always joke about this, and I know Oklahma City
thunder fans get mad at me because I live in
Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
But now we're at the All is right with the world.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
So every single time a guy that was either an
invite or an undrafted guy makes a play, social media blow.
So this guy's going to be a difference maker. This
Sam Presty Arnie, I tell you. So it's all is
right with the world, which is a wild place to
be for most fan bases that are usually negative and
think everyone sucks.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
Hey, thank everyone's great.
Speaker 4 (57:53):
During football season, we always do our preseason Hall of
Fame after we see one game. We could do the
Summer League Hall of Fame too. I mean there's so
many people we go, oh, this guy's gonna be a stud.
When the NBA, yes season gets longer than you never
hear from that guy.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
All right.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
When we come back to the tyraq dot com studios,
Arnie has put together a series of lists for the
show tonight. Yes, we've got the five NFL stars that
will have a bad year. We've got the five most
intriguing teams to watch in college football. We've we've got
the top five sports event that we no longer care about.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
Yes, but let's grab the low.
Speaker 4 (58:33):
Hanging top five quarterbacks too.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
So that's what I'm teasing coming up next right here
on Fox Sports Radio thanks to Mark Medina.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
Would you go cover the Summer League? If you got
the call and be like, hey, Arnie, go cover the
summer League? Would you go to.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Radio?
Speaker 2 (58:49):
What's rolling the summer League?
Speaker 4 (58:52):
I used to go to the Summer League, sit in
the top row and do play by play. Then you know,
try to practice by Tom Mac.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
Is that what they did it or no?
Speaker 4 (59:02):
No, they did it in Iola Marrymut University back then
lm U.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
Oh is that that?
Speaker 4 (59:09):
No, that was in by Marina del Ray.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
So you didn't do the Las Vegas Summer They didn't have.
Speaker 4 (59:16):
They didn't have the Vegas Summer Week back then. It
was in LMU. There was no Vegas thing, but it
was the same concept.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
Different. No, it is not. It's the same in Vegas
is different than any other league you can throw.
Speaker 4 (59:30):
Had all the stars out there and I would go there.
I do my play by play and I'd practice. But
played by play wasn't in the cards for me.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
So no, it's not for everyone, not for me either.
I'm I'm just wouldn't I want to sit here and
bloviate with you, man, I just want to talk all night. Well,
you're the Oklahoma Softball play by play.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (59:48):
Yes, yes, that is true. That is true. I do
have that going for me. Can I had a couple
of tweets here real quick before I get to your list.
Speaker 4 (59:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
Absolutely, at Stinking Genius one.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
I'm at Plank Show and everybody everybody should follow us
at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Ged up, I missed this.
Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
Sorry ged up, But you're right, you guys gotta discuss
why Kauai is such a quitter.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
Can't count on this guy at all.
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
I don't think he's healthy, and I don't know if
he's ever gonna be healthy again with the way things
are going right now.
Speaker 4 (01:00:15):
No, I'm surprised that you know that he was even
on the team. Why he took the invite. I thought
he would want to go ahead rest on off. I
just it just wasn't gonna work out. From a little
concerned about Kevin Durant with his uh, with his injury,
if that's going to be a problem moving on forward.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Apparently Steve Curry is not. He's like, shush your mouth,
Arnie Spanner, Yeah, exactly. Worried about it at all. Whenever
a guy's not practicing and not playing, I think there's
a point where you're like, I don't think this is
gonna end. Well, you got you gotta make some decisions
before people take off for the Olympics, all right. So, uh,
I don't necessarily have this disdain for Kawhi. I'm not
(01:00:54):
someone who's trying to crush him. I just want to
know if we're ever gonna see that guy that he
was in Toronto or during the early part of his
career at San Antonio. I know they made a run
what he and Paul George's first season together, is that right?
They went to the finals, the Western Conference finals. But
you want to try to end the career of Joel Embiid, Arnie,
(01:01:16):
I think you could have been in good shape, saying
that it is ov er over for Kawhi Leonard.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
Right, No, you may be.
Speaker 4 (01:01:21):
Yeah, you would have been right on that one also too.
A matter of fact, there's in the next one about
four years, three to four years, maybe lest to that.
But we're gonna see a lot of these Hall of
Fame stars retire. And yeah, there's a few young guys
that are up and coming, but not as many as
people think out there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
Not as many people as you think out there.
Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
There's not as many. No, there's not going to be
as many stars. There's going to be a lack of
superstar talent in the NBA come about of five to
six years from now.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
What did you just say about the guy that you
watched play against Team USA the other day, Cooper Flag?
Speaker 7 (01:01:59):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
That guy?
Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Yeah, I love that guy. I mean, that's just one
guy you're naming, but I do love him.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
I Well, one of the problem is, let's call him
like it is. Part of the problem is college basketball
kind of sucks. I mean it really does. We're not
getting guys that are uh, just sticking around for a
while so we get to know them and we understand
their game.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
They have one good year and boom, they're off to
the NBA.
Speaker 8 (01:02:22):
Right right.
Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
It's hard right and be Flag. That's gonna be everyone
going for a lot of foreign players, right right.
Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
But Cooper Flag at least we know a little bit
about We saw him. When you saw him go practice
against Team USA and you saw what he could do,
You're like, wow, Yeah. I mean it's one thing to
see his highlights from high school or what he does
in some of these you know, scrimmage games and stuff
like that, but when he went against the Team USA,
You're like, man, this this kid's the real deal. I man,
(01:02:53):
I'd four fit eighty two games if I thought I
had a chance to get him number one next year.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Yeah, it sucks there's no stars or Allen coming into
the league. Though, Okay, you gave me one. Congratulations.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Well you've had the same take for like a decade.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
I mean you've had it going for like ten years,
and every year I'm like, you're wrong, And every year
more stars developed more. Sometimes it might be a Jannisaneekumpo
who it takes a couple of years, or Nicole Jokich
who it takes a couple of years, but they developed Luca.
I think the best is still ahead of him. I
think the best is still out of Trey Young. These
are guys that are relatively young in there.
Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
Currently the best the head of when by Yama. But
you know, it's funny you mentioned Trey Young. It doesn't
seem like too many people really want to go ahead
and trade for him for some reason.
Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
Because they're not trading him. They got rid of de
jon Te Murtha. I know that the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:03:40):
It just seemed there was an article that said that
there wasn't enough offers, or at least maybe there wasn't
enough good offers. Maybe I guess I should say for
Trey Young, but they were probably asking the moon.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
Yes they should. Chris writes NBA Summer League should be
Roman Numeral one.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
It was not.
Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
Arnie's recent dessert choices should be two through fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Yeah, what was up?
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
You got three straight shows, so you made your wife
make you three different desserts.
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
I made her go out, and I wouldn't make her
bake it. Come on, now, she bakes it without any
of the good stuff in it. That's gonna make it tasteless.
So I made her go out and get me some.
You know, go ahead and go to the bakery. Which
is like an hour and a half from our house,
and give me some good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
You know, how dare her try to give you something
healthy to help you live.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
With bit She made ice cream a couple of weekends ago,
and it was like the most tasteless thing I've ever
had in my wife. She's like, there's still some in
the freezer. I go, there's a reason that's still the freezer.
Nobody wants it. It's got no taste to it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Chris adds Arizona winning all sports in the Big twelve
should be fifteen plank. Filling in for malor and having
to use the dumb button should be Roman numeral sixteen.
Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
Did you have to use a dumb button on the
bren Maher show?
Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Oh yeah, yeah we did. Curious it works. It was perfect,
well done. Yeah something you said or.
Speaker 4 (01:05:00):
Was it a caller?
Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
Not me?
Speaker 5 (01:05:02):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
No, no, not me. I was good. I thought I
was good. I thought I was good.
Speaker 5 (01:05:05):
I was.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
I stayed in my lane, I hung out with Eddie
and the cruise. It was nice, but there was well,
we had to fight. We had to fight in the stands,
the soccer fight.
Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Oh okay, right right, and it listen, it did not
draw a mallets in the palace type reaction or anything
too exciting. But let's just say somebody thought that it
might be a good idea just to go ahead and
give everyone weapons when something like that happens.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
And yeah, we thought better of making sure that got
on the air. Good catch.
Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
By the way, Chris, I don't know how that sounds
or what that's like whenever we get dumped or when
a caller gets dumped, but I can only imagine it
sounded something like wait, no way, no, no, no no.
Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
I think that's pretty much how it sounded.
Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
By by the way, can we get to one more
you because it just came in like fourteen seconds ago.
George sends this in stick a genius. Please tell Plake
not to disrespect the lm U Summer League.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
It was great.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
My friends and I still talk about how we still
would miss items. Check out these rosters. And he sent
us up a bunch of old rosters from the from
some of the teams out there. Not bad, at least
a lot better than you see nowadays. But it was
a lot it was. That was the premiere one, Chris.
You really didn't realize it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
But no, no stying stop you're twisting my words, which
you're very good at.
Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
I asked you if you've ever done the Las Vegas
Summer League, and you said, yeah, that's where I got
my start.
Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
And I asked.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Lola Merrimount, No, I asked specifically about Vegas.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
This roster does look blossom. By the way, though, uh.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
Ac Green is on one of the rosters playing in
the summer league. Charles Hopeley, Charles, you know where Charles
Oakley went to college, Virginia Union Union, right exactly. They've
even got the starters start as well, which I kind
of like, Yeah, good stuff. Nice share, George. But that's
not me dissing it. That's already absolutely missing anything that
(01:07:16):
I asked him. Oh, we got a break. It's eleven
thirty four, all right. When we come back, Arnie, we've
got to get your top five list of quarterbacks. We've
got to get it. But first, Steve Sager has everything
that's going on in the world of sports tonight, a
lot of Summer League.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
You see what's going on, Steve.
Speaker 8 (01:07:31):
I do remember the Summer Pro League as it was
known in southern California.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
Sam Bowie on this list, really right.
Speaker 8 (01:07:40):
Old peers et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 7 (01:07:42):
NBA Summer League in Vegas has existed for about twenty years,
but for over thirty years, including at Loyal amerimun but
at various places universities in southern California they had the
Summer Pro League, as it was known in its later years.
Speaker 8 (01:07:56):
It was at Long Beach State. I went to games there.
Speaker 7 (01:07:59):
I believe the local station I used to work at
sponsored a team in the place there was. Remember, the
nineteen eighty four Olympics were in Los Angeles, so that
summer they didn't have the Summer Pro League in Los Angeles.
Instead they had it at San Diego State's gym, and
the US Olympic team was one of the teams in
the Summer Pro League because remember it was all college
(01:08:20):
players back the course. College players included Michael Jordan, and
then they played an exhibition in San Diego with coach
Bob Knight before they went up to LA and started
the actual Olympic tournament. But yeah, Summer Pro League was
for decades, including at loyal A Marimount, which is by
the way, the campus where the LA Rams will be
having training camp starting on the twenty third. They are
(01:08:43):
building a new place. The Chargers have a new place
they just opened called the Bolts where their training camp
will be right near Lax not far from the stadium
where they play in El Segundo. And so the Raiders
are going to have their training camp starting this month
at where the Chargers were in Orange Camp in Costa Mesa.
There are six spots in California for NFL training camp,
(01:09:05):
six wow, including the Dallas Cowboys back in the Ventura
area in Oxnard. New Orleans Saints for this year are
going to be at uc.
Speaker 4 (01:09:13):
Irvine Boxar's a staple for the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
That's a thing.
Speaker 7 (01:09:16):
Yeah, they used to be in that area of southern
California in the Tom Landry days year after year. I
saw some great NFL Network documentaries recently, including some Cowboys stuff,
and they showed film of I mean, this is some
of the great cowboy teams ever with Roger Staubach and
Tom Landry coaching, and it's just people lined up watching
(01:09:36):
on the sidewalk of a neighborhood with no fence or anything.
Speaker 8 (01:09:41):
It's just astounding watching this.
Speaker 7 (01:09:43):
Anyway, as far as NFL rookies reporting to training camp,
it happened today for Baltimore r Yes, let's go Houston
reports on Wednesday. The Texans have the Hall of Fame
exhibition August first against the Bears. Every other team starts
the preseason schedule at least a week later, but reports
(01:10:04):
dates for some of the other teams are this next week,
some reporting on the sixteenth.
Speaker 8 (01:10:09):
So we are getting there, So.
Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
Rookies, veterans, and then when do the overrated players report,
like Rogers and Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 8 (01:10:16):
Apparently that's all the rookies compared to you. I just
wanted if I listened to my ARNI span your shows
over the years.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Yes, I didn't know.
Speaker 7 (01:10:24):
The NBA Summer League continues in Vegas. Miami defeated Boston
today Haimi hake Is with twenty nine points. Spurs over
Portland Tonight's defand Castle twenty two points. Philadelphia beat Detroit.
Marcus Sasser University of Houston for Detroit was zero of
six shooting from the floor, had one point. The league
started yesterday in Vegas. The schedule goes to the twenty
(01:10:46):
second All thirty NBA teams involved. Each club will play
at least five games there. US women's soccer won a
pre Olympic exhibition in New Jersey today one nothing over Mexico.
The team send off matches Tuesday in DC against Coaster
Rica before they leave for the Olympics in Paris, and
in one week, the US Olympic women's basketball team has
(01:11:06):
its sendoff game against a team of WNBA Stars, and
then that league will be off for about a month.
By the way, Women's Soccer League NWSL is now off
for about a month.
Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
And a half.
Speaker 7 (01:11:17):
WNBA wins today for LA and for New York. The
Wimbledon Women's final went to Barbara Krachkova in three sets.
Ludwig Oberg leads the Scottish Open by two strokes. One
late ballgame in the Major leagues at Arizona, it's bottom
of the eighth Diamondbacks eight to one over the Blue Jays.
Earlier victories from Minnesota and the Angels. Saint Louis swept
a doubleheader from the Cubs, ended a Cub's five game
(01:11:39):
winning streak in the process. The Mets won their fifth
in a row. Miami's now lost for five straight. San
Diego had lost five straight, but they shut out Atlanta
for nothing. On Fox TV tonight, the Yankees beat Baltimore
again six to one. Baltimore has lost five straight, and Detroit,
on a tenth inning homer, beat the Dodgers eleven to nine.
The All Star Game is Tuesday on Fox TV from Texaspective.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
We're getting the main event in UFC. Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
Meanwhile, I have the news on another station right now.
I can't get away from it. Today, Man, scary day. Obviously,
we're getting reports throughout the night. There's been different press conferences,
but I think you guys know we're a sports show.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
That's we're going to focus on.
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
But man, Arnie, what a scary day today was with
the attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Speaker 4 (01:12:25):
That was scary, no, absolutely, And of course people lost
their lives there today, so of course we think about that.
Our heart AND's and thoughts go with those families too.
But it was just a terrible situation.
Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
And I was just reading this.
Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
The investigators are at the suspected shooters home. They're waiting
for a search warrant to collect DNA to confirm the identity,
and also trying to figure out a motive. So obviously
a lot of work being done here throughout the night. Now,
Arnie did a lot of work putting this together for
the show. So now as Desager still do his segment
(01:12:59):
on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
Nights, yes, yes he does. We have to have that
coming up too.
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
All right, well, let's get your five quarterbacks. Is Frenny
Spaniers top five quarterbacks in the NFL. It's like a
two prong thing.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
They're my top five quarterbacks so far with careers of
what they've done up till now and what I think
they're gonna do this season, these are my top five quarterbacks.
Of course, you got to put Patch Bobs, of course,
with what he's done in the past and the season
he's probably gonna have this year. Also, no reason he's
going to slow on down. They should be right in
the thicket things to go ahead and be right back
(01:13:34):
in the super Bowl. Number two was kind of tough.
I did put Josh Allen though. You know it's taken
the last two years runs at the end of each
of the last couple of years to go ahead and
pull out the division and actually set themselves up for
a playoff roum but they always fall short. I still
put them at number two because of the potential. I
(01:13:54):
don't think Buffalo wins the division though if they do
he deserves that number two ranking number three with CJ.
Stroud because my goodness, he's got the weapons. He put
up some big numbers last year. The talk about him
and the Texans going far is absolutely crazy. A lot
of money coming in on the Texans. Chris to go
(01:14:14):
to the Super bowl's a long shot. We'll see what
he could do. I put him in number three, number four.
I mean, he's had a good career up to now.
He got hurt though last year, so I think he
bounces back. That's Joe Burrow. He even said, you know,
people aren't talking about him as people forgot about him.
Only problem is Chris. That is a killer division, absolutely killer.
(01:14:34):
Every team was over five hundred. I believe last year
Cincinnati finished the last They were nine to eight. Curious
to see how Burrow bounces back, and I put him
at number four and number five. Of course. I have
Tua had great numbers offensive league last year. The year
before before he got hurt, he had great offensive numbers.
I expect him to do more of the same. Dolphins,
(01:14:55):
stay healthy, stay away from that game against Kansas City
in the playoffs. We'll see the Dolphins in the super Bowl.
I have two at number five.
Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
So you you don't have the reigning NFL MVP in
your top five quarterbacks in the league.
Speaker 7 (01:15:09):
No, I do not.
Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
I do not have him in there.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
You don't have You got to be good in the playoffs, Chris.
You know that, don't you?
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
Then why is Tua in there?
Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
You got that's part of the combination. But you got
to Stroud in there the league in passing. My friend
is Lamar Jackson the leading the league in passing.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
No, yeah, but he was much better than Tua was.
Speaker 3 (01:15:32):
You would take You would take Lamar Jackson in a
heartbeat over to it, and I know you would.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
You're telling me you have to wait.
Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
Wait are you asking me who I'd rather have to
Lamar Jackson?
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
Josh Allen. You don't have Josh Allen on this list?
Speaker 4 (01:15:45):
Yeah, I have Josh Allen Uber two.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Oh yeah, Josh oh, I apologize. You don't have Dak
Prescott on this list. No, No, forget Dak Prescott. You
have Jared Goff on this list.
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
No, don't have Gouff on the list too.
Speaker 3 (01:15:56):
I will rock party. No, Matt Stafford, Matt staff one
of Super Bowl justin Herbert.
Speaker 4 (01:16:02):
I would put I would take Tua over Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
Okay, when we come back to the Track dot Com studio,
Steve De Sager will get us caught up on everything
going on in the world of sports right here on
Fox Sports Radio. Oh, it's a Fox Sports Saturday with
Arnie and Plank, Jason and Aaron are out and Steve
De Sager is in with I don't know, Steve, there's
a there's much much more going on than I think
(01:16:27):
just baseball and oh.
Speaker 7 (01:16:29):
Yeah, we've got a lot to get a lot actually,
by the way, since you've referenced this, but we've not
actually stated it.
Speaker 8 (01:16:34):
I know people it's a weekend. Maybe they've been around.
Speaker 7 (01:16:37):
Trump says a bullet struck his ear as he was
speaking today in Pennsylvania. For what it's worth, Newsmax and
others say he was likely hit by glass fragments believed
to have come from the shattered teleprompter from the gunfire.
Either way, Trump was the target of an apparent assassination
attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania today and there was
really great analysis from Associated Press. They got a hold
(01:16:59):
of more than a dozen videos and photos from the
scene and satellite imagery, and it shows the shooter who
was quote neutralized, was able to get astonishingly close to
the stage, as they put it, and they looked at
one video that shows the body of a person wearing
great camouflage lying motionless on the roof of a building
(01:17:22):
at a manufacturing plant just north of the farm show
grounds where the rally was held today, and the roof
where the person lay was less than one hundred and
fifty meters from where Trump was speaking, which they point
out is the distance from which a decent marksman could
reasonably hit a human, because one hundred and fifty meters
is the distance at which US Army recruits have to
(01:17:43):
hit the human sized silhouette to qualify with an M
sixteen rifle. AP says this was an AR fifteen today
as semi automatic civilian version of the military M sixteen
is how they put it. So just putting out details
to what's been referenced earlier on the show. We've got
the MLB All Star Game on Fox TV from Texas
(01:18:04):
on Tuesday. A guy that's not been there, not going there,
might be there one day because he's had a heck
of a first week in the Majors. Rhese Hines of
the Cincinnati Reds in six career games so far, has
nine extra base hits. The last rookie to have those
kind of numbers you'd have to go back to nineteen
oh one. This guy was five years ago, a second
(01:18:26):
round draft choice from IMG Academy, the Fame Place in Florida.
Now at Triple A this year for the Reds in Louisville,
he was batting two sixteen. Last year at Double A
he had almost one hundred RBIs. But here he's had
six days as a big leaguer. There was a stat
from stat Zinc last night that said, my goodness, five
days in the majors. He's got nine hits already, he's
(01:18:48):
got a Grand Slam, and they put up all these numbers.
The last player to have all those numbers in a
five day span was Willie May's back in the fifties.
And then you add today and now it's six days
as a big leaguer. The East Hinds of the Reds
has five home runs, nine extra base hits. He had
a game with all three types of extra base hits, double,
triple homer. He's had a Grand Slam this week, a
(01:19:10):
multi homer game. Nobody else in the history of Major
League Baseball has done all of that in any six
day span at any point of their career. He's done
all of that in the first six days.
Speaker 8 (01:19:24):
Of his career.
Speaker 7 (01:19:25):
It isounding Yeah, It's all downhill from here. The reds
is a team hit six homers in the first six
innings at home today beat Miami ten to six. The
Marlins left fourteen men on base. Miami's lost five in
a row. Their record thirty two and sixty three, and
the White Sox are still not good record twenty seven
(01:19:45):
and seventy seventy losses by All Star Break. For the
White Sox, they lost at home to Pittsburgh six to two.
Brian Reynolds four hits, four RBIs for the Pirates, and
the Yankees won at Baltimore again six to one. Was
the final. This was the FS one game this afternoon.
The Orioles have lost five straight. The Yankees are now
tied with the Orioles for first in the Al East.
(01:20:07):
Aaron Judge it is thirty fourth homer he has eighty
five RBI's already. The Yankees scored four times in the
first wound up with the win. The Dodgers lost in
ten innings at Detroit.
Speaker 8 (01:20:17):
On a home run.
Speaker 7 (01:20:18):
But sho Hee Otani did hit his twenty ninth homer
and had a triple and two walks and three runs scored.
But again, the Dodgers record since May twenty first, twenty
three and twenty three not good.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
Not good. Thanks Steve.
Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
When we come back, it is All Star week. But
guess what Arnie doesn't care? And the All Star Game
is it on the list of sad Ritz on my
and my quarterback list. I'm getting ripped. Oh we'll get
to that as well. Next with Darnian playing on Fox
Sports Radio, stick around here we go, final hour from
(01:20:53):
the Tirock dot com studios. How you uh, how you
hanging in there with three straight nights? You pacing yourself
at all?
Speaker 1 (01:21:01):
You?
Speaker 4 (01:21:02):
Uh, you're just coming out hot? What's kind of the plan? No,
there's no no pacing. There's no pacing for Arnie Spaniard.
We we just come out full blaze in the head.
By the way, I want to bring the substance. It's
the last hour. We lost two icons today. Uh, doctor
Ruth passed away. I don't know. You're probably familiar, old
enough to be familiar with doctor Ruth. Aren't you sure everything?
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
Yeah, my mom and my grandparents wouldn't let me listen
to her. Really, that's what I remember about doctor. I
would listen to that. No, you cannot listen to that
or read it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Do not because she did.
Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
But she did a little radio, but she was mostly
or did TV. She did a lot of writing too, right, Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
I didn't know.
Speaker 4 (01:21:44):
I know she did mostly media radio, television. But she
was great, she really was. I mean a lot of
people learned sex from her, there was no doubt. And
Richard Simmons, who I was a big fan of, I
really did like that guy. I mean, just going back
to the days where he did the video sweating with
(01:22:04):
the oldies, and yep, he was you know, he had
a great sense of humor. And then recently, you know,
he went missing, they said for a while, and nobody
had heard from him, that he came out of hiding,
and just well, he kind of came out of hiding
right right, like only a week ago. He made some
comment that he was happy to be alive and felt
good and stuff like that. And now he passes away.
(01:22:26):
So very sad about that. He was seventy six years old.
So two icons young kids might not even know who
either one.
Speaker 8 (01:22:34):
Of them were.
Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
To be honest with you, Chris, you know I you
know what, I would imagine that there is a large
portion of the youths that would know Gene Simmons or
Geene Simmons. Richard Simmons from the Finding Richard Simmons podcast,
which was kind of in the in the John I'm
a podcast true crime podcast nerd And this wasn't a
(01:22:56):
true crime, but it was intriguing and trying to find
good pods could stories. This was one of the best.
This was one of the best podcasts ever done. It
really truly was.
Speaker 4 (01:23:04):
Yeah, but they don't remember him back back in then.
But they don't remember for sweating with the oldies, right
are those dolphins shorts? You know what I mean? They
don't they remember those days, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
I got the biggest kick out of him. He my
mom did the Richard Simmons workout thing.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Oh so I saw that. Yeah, I saw a lot
more of.
Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
Richard Simmons than I ever wanted to see as a
kid growing up. But I agree to love him.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
I loved him. Whenever he would make his appearances with Stern,
it was great.
Speaker 4 (01:23:29):
Oh, I was you just took the words right out
of my mouth.
Speaker 5 (01:23:31):
I O.
Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
He was a great guest Dot dot Howard Stern show
was fantastic on that so I yes, rested peace. He
was a good guy.
Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
And by the way, doctor Ruth not gonna lie thought
she had already passed. It was one of those things
where when I saw it, I was like, am I
falling for another one of these yes.
Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
Well that have already passed away? On Twitter and everyone
says ri I p no.
Speaker 4 (01:23:52):
No rip, like five years ago or something.
Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
Yeah, it was it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:57):
The other day Norman Schwartz Schwartz cough. Someone posted on
my Facebook page like, oh my gosh, this is terrible.
Norman Schwartzklugh just passed away, and I was like, oh
my gosh, and he'd been dead like ten years. But yeah, now,
before we get to the rest of your lists, I'm
going to SEC and before we get to that, I mean,
you are just getting panned.
Speaker 4 (01:24:17):
Get for your claw from my quarterback list.
Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
But real quick, I want to throw a stat in
front of you. I'm working on being smart when I
go to SEC media Day, So I've got to look good, Arnie.
I gotta be smart. I gotta be educated. This is
a whole new group of people, right, I want to
be embraced. I want to be their friend. I want
to be mister SEC.
Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
You're gonna try to suck up to them as what
you do. You're the new guy, right, you're the new guy. Well,
it's not like I'm coming in there like the big swing.
And you know what our Oklahoma was. They lost to
Kansas in Oklahoma State last year and they had a
losing record of the year before.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
I can't go up in there with my chest bote out.
But let me tell you who I would go in
there with my chest bote out if I covered them, Georgia.
I don't know if we've taken the time to really
truly appreciate what they've done over the last three years.
Do you realize they've lost two games in the last
(01:25:12):
three years, Arnie. They are forty two and two in
this era of parody in college football and the toughest
conference in college football even though they were playing in
the SEC East. They're forty two and two in the
last three years, and their only two losses came to
Alabama and the SEC championship.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
Alabama.
Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
That's unreal. That's both of them, Arnie.
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
They lost in the championship game three years ago, and
they lost in the championship game this year. That this
past season, and by the way, they're starting quarterback is
back now. They had some guys that transferred out, They
had some five stars that left. But I think that's
college football anymore. That's what that deal with the Yeah,
but do we I mean, I know they didn't play
(01:25:59):
for the title last year because you had a year
when you had what more undefeated? I mean, Florida State
got left out when they had no business getting left out.
So obviously Georgia wasn't going to get in whenever they
had a very similar record Alabama, and Alabama beat them
in the head to head. It's just amazing, is it
not to see this incredible run of success at Georgia
has had. So if I was heading in whearing Georgia letters,
(01:26:23):
oh my gosh, dude, I'd be letting everyone know just
what's going on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
Does it amaze?
Speaker 4 (01:26:26):
Play four out of conference games this year? Or am
I wrong on that?
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
Every one in the SEC does eight conference for non conference?
Speaker 4 (01:26:35):
Gotcha? Gotcha?
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
So yes, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
There's probably a Western Carolina or an East Popcorn State or.
Speaker 4 (01:26:41):
Or Tennessee techs on there and so was you Mass.
I didn't know you Mass was a football school.
Speaker 3 (01:26:46):
So to the Twitter machine at Stinking Genius one at
Plank Show, everybody go follow us at Fox Sports Radio.
Uh just grow very simple. Right, So your QB list
absolutely sucks.
Speaker 2 (01:26:59):
I think not true. That is to the point my
man is terrible.
Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
Well, Lebby asked this, you gotta have Mahomes in your
top five. So that's one thing. Mahomes is number one.
Oh you know how you talk about the separate salary
cap for quarterbacks. Yeah, that we maybe need to have
a separate spot in the rankings for Patrick Cokay, I'm
homes to be honest with You're definitely gonna have c J. Stroud.
Everybody talking about him this year and I last year.
Speaker 2 (01:27:24):
He's not a top five quarterback in the league.
Speaker 4 (01:27:27):
You wouldn't take him one of your top five picks.
No quarters.
Speaker 3 (01:27:30):
I'm if I'm able to pick all thirty two starting
quarterbacks in the NFL, I'm not taking c J. Stroud
in my top five. Now after this next season, maybe
I think he's damn good. But now right now, after
his rookie season, no.
Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
After the numbers he put up the way every Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:27:48):
Well three of your five. I wouldn't have picked all right,
Joe Burrow, No, i'd have Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (01:27:56):
Okay, Josh Allen. I don't think i'd have Josh Allen
on my list. Oh, for cry out loud, Joe Burrow
went to a Super Bowl. Josh Allnes a top five
in passing. What is this a fantasy football ranking? No,
it's not a fantasy foot You can't bring it up stats.
He could pass and he could run, and he went
and won a couple of divisions. So you're all short
(01:28:17):
in the You're talking about Lamar Jackson right now, and
you hate him. Jackson's horrible. First of all, Lamar Jackson's
not even the top five in passing.
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
Lamar Jackson is horrible, and he just won the MVP.
Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
Okay, you know what I meant.
Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
You know what I meant.
Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Don't start using my own words against me for ride
out on.
Speaker 3 (01:28:33):
Hold on Darryl Wrights. Yeah, Arnie, he's moving the goalpost.
This list is comical. Tua was the passing leader, Lamar
won the MVP, and there's a difference here. Somehow, I
don't like either guy, neither will win big. But Arnie
is such a homer it's really tough to listen to
you soon.
Speaker 4 (01:28:50):
Cause anybody doesn't understand this. You might want to go
ahead and look up the statistics. The number one passer
in yards last year was toua matter. The Dolphins were
on pace to go ahead and get to the super
Bowl until they had all those injuries and had to
go to Kansas City in the worst ungodly weather I've
ever seen in my entire life. You might as well
(01:29:12):
have just played it in Alaska. Made no difference whatsoever.
So everything kind of fell against him. But Tua was
number one, and too was number one passing before he
got hurt the year before that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Also, so what are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (01:29:26):
It's the lowest javal.
Speaker 3 (01:29:28):
It's the lowest yardage total for a passing leader in
the NFL since twenty seventeen. And oh, by the way,
Jameis Winston led the league in passing to Shaun Watson
league in passing.
Speaker 4 (01:29:42):
I didn't are you?
Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
Are you talking about a fantasy football awarding?
Speaker 4 (01:29:47):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Because stats, Arenie?
Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
I mean, I get it. You want to try to
find a way to get your guy in this list.
But come on, man, you're just just saying, what if
he throws for three hundred and fifty yards and he
throws two picks and you lose the game?
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
Still a lot of yards? Are you happy?
Speaker 1 (01:30:02):
Wait? Wit?
Speaker 4 (01:30:03):
Who is your top five? Then you have Mahomes, you said,
and the top five list? I want to you had
Josh Allen though, right, you had Mahomes yet I don't
know if I would have Josh Allen on my So
you have nobody in your top five?
Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
That's right. My top five is just Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (01:30:17):
Mahomes and Mahomes. Right, how you got out there?
Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
That's right? For crying out loud, I think Mahomes is
number one.
Speaker 4 (01:30:24):
Baker Mayfield right.
Speaker 2 (01:30:26):
Number two?
Speaker 3 (01:30:27):
Not not no, no, you got to get to Super Bowl,
So Jalen Hurts would be number two. I probably have
Kyler Murray three, and then Baker Mayfield four.
Speaker 4 (01:30:36):
Stop it already.
Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
Now, there is one list that you have for the
show tonight that I do like quite a bit. This
is in addition to me getting the SEC Media Day
starting on Monday, we have the All Star Game, which
is taking place actually in Arlington, same site. Thankfully, Dallas
is a little bigger city. Than most others. So you
could have two major events going on, but arenie in advance,
(01:31:00):
in advance. I don't think I'm all in on the
All Star Game, right. I know I'm gonna be right
down the street from it, but I'm I also don't
think I care about the home Run Derby or anything
with that set Roman numeral number nine. Yes, the top
five events slash sports that people no longer care about.
(01:31:22):
The top five events slash sports, right, people no longer
care about. Well, I always like to start with number one.
It's like a combination.
Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
I was gonna say Kentucky Derby, but you could put
slash horse racing. Doesn't there be still somewhat gets you know,
a response. But for the overall part, horse racing used
to be very big even before my time, Chris. I mean,
it was like horse racing and boxing were the biggest
things that everybody would cover out there. Now horse racing
is just an afterthought. Nobody other than the Derby, which
(01:31:58):
brings a little bit of excitement in nobody cares about
any of the other races out there. Number two the
Indy five hundred, again a sport that was just so
big how many years ago, Like thirty years ago, and
now look what it's become, and really not too many
people pay attention. It used to be must watch television,
(01:32:18):
not anymore. Speaking about must watch television, A sport that
used to be just umongous was not only men's but
men's and women's tennis. We're talking both sides. Women's tennis
just thrived. You knew so many women on the tour.
It was crazy, and the same thing for the men
(01:32:40):
you were watching. And I'm not just talking about Wimbledon.
I'm talking about all kinds of events they had out there.
You would watch any tennis event. Now again, it's it
just lacks a lot of the big names out there.
Number four, Boxing now with you know, with UFC and
with the wrestling and all that stuff has taken such
(01:33:01):
a back seat, and people aren't even getting into it anymore.
Nobody really cares about it. So I put them in
number four. And number five is golf. I knew that
once Tiger would leave, golf would go right back down
to where it was before he came into Vecchi. It
was more popular back then than it is now. I
think people really could care less about golf. So that's
(01:33:23):
my five sports. Slash events that people no longer care about.
Now you're gonna tell me I'm crazy and people love
all this stuff, right, that's.
Speaker 3 (01:33:31):
What Wait, hold on a second, but you're telling me
you don't have the All Star Game or you don't
have the Home Run Derby on this list.
Speaker 4 (01:33:38):
No, I think people care less about these five events
before they care less about the All Star Game or
the or the Home Run Derby. I mean, no, that
would debut. If I did a top ten, I would
certainly squeeze those. And that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
I think golf is more about even now, Tiger still
I think gets what he does.
Speaker 4 (01:33:58):
Yeah, guy, that doesn't even really play anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
Boxing, we need a big heavyweight, right, We need some
sort of we need some sort of star. And sometimes
is boxing even still in the Olympics. Sometimes, Arnie, we'll
get a boxing star out of the Olympics, right, I
mean it's it's been. I mean Roy Jones Junior is
a great one. But Floyd Mayweather, you'll get a star.
(01:34:22):
But I mean, I don't know if that maybe would
help it out. I can't argue with you on that.
We were just celebrating the anniversary of the Mike Tyson
bite right.
Speaker 4 (01:34:31):
People care more about like if Tyson's fighting Logan Paul
or the UFC or something to that effect you or
Jake Paul, even Jake Paul whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:34:41):
But I kind of feel like Kentucky Derby and horse racing,
I feel like it's getting a little bit more juice recently.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
And I think it's because people are like the event.
You're seeing more.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
Hey, here's Tom Brady and there's Wes Welker and they're
together at the Kentucky Derby, and you know, I just
I don't know, I feel like it's becoming more of
an event where people are wanting to be seen. I'm
not arguing with your list on this one at all.
I don't think I can, because I think you're you're
dead on but not used to.
Speaker 4 (01:35:13):
Be umongous back in the day, Chris, that was big time,
you know, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:35:16):
And Jimmy Connors, Mantzelander bjorn Borg, I mean, the Michael Chang.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
I mean it's just on to Pete Sampras Andrea. I
can see you now. I mean, I I couldn't even
tell you. I know, I know, And I was trying
to watch it the other day, like who's this guy?
So Tennis is dude.
Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
But of those five, I would say I think that
Kentucky Derby has a chance. But you did lump it
in with horse, which is a very rather general lumping
it in.
Speaker 4 (01:35:43):
Yeah, you know, Kentucky Derby's still alone, maybe still has
a little bit of glamour in it. And yeah, people
like to wear the hats and drink the mint jul
ups and get all dressed up and and that effect.
I understand that, but it just feels like it gets
less attention every year, least the horse racing does.
Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
I feel like the five hundred though, I kind of
feel like that's auto racing as a whole right now.
Speaker 4 (01:36:08):
That could be true too.
Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
I love NASCAR, and the crowds are still great, but
I mean I wish I wish we had more interaction.
I wish we could talk about the races. I talk
about the races with you, and you're like Mario Andretti.
You know, it's just there's no one that is racing
and relevant that a lot of people seem to clamor around.
All Right, I like that list, aren't you?
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
Sary can't argue with that list. I don't care what.
Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
Anybody I am surprised.
Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
I am surprised that, based on the timing and based
on the nature of this week, I'm really surprised that
you didn't have the All Star Game or the Home
Run Derby in there.
Speaker 4 (01:36:40):
But yeah, I don't think I would have put the
All Star Game in there, though it certainly los lost
its relevance. The home Run contest. Just I would have
still loved the Legend's Home Run Contest. I don't know
if you heard us talking about that when I was
doing the show with Bernie, but they were gonna have Ken,
Griffy Junior and Pull Holts and just a whole bunch
of guys. I would have loved to see that. That
(01:37:01):
would have been a blast.
Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
We're broadcasting live tonight from the tyrack dot com studios.
Speaker 2 (01:37:06):
Tyrack dot com.
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tyrack dot com the way tire buying should be. It's
already in plank on a Fox Sports Saturday. Can I
make a list for tomorrow night's show?
Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
Too?
Speaker 4 (01:37:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:37:22):
Can I suggest one too?
Speaker 5 (01:37:24):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:37:24):
Can I?
Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
Just?
Speaker 5 (01:37:25):
I have that?
Speaker 4 (01:37:25):
One? More to my list of events or sports that
no longer people care about.
Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
Oh no, what are you going with here?
Speaker 5 (01:37:33):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:37:33):
No, no, this is more of an event, not a Okay, okay,
fair enough. My friend sent me a video of him
doing this last week, and I'm like, really are people
still doing this? Enough is enough?
Speaker 2 (01:37:44):
I didn't pickball? No, no, no, not at all.
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
He's in Spain, so he's you know what they're doing there?
Don't you.
Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Running with the bulls?
Speaker 4 (01:37:55):
Exactly? What?
Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Baby? Enough of that?
Speaker 4 (01:38:02):
Really? Do people really care? It's not like on your
bucket list. I want to go to Spain and run
with the bulls so I could have a bull you know. No, no, no,
enough people are done with that.
Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
I'm hoping.
Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
I guess used to be big back in the day,
but not anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:38:17):
I guess I would imagine it's still pretty big. I
have a wild philosophy in life.
Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
Maybe it's because I'm a little bit too rural now
in my country boy days, Arnie. I don't like like
random animals that are ten times my weight, if not more.
And I'm sure bull how heavy is a bull? By
the way, I've three thousand pounds or something.
Speaker 4 (01:38:37):
I think I would let it pass me and then
I kind of run from behind, is what I would.
Speaker 3 (01:38:42):
I would probably yeah, eighteen hundred pounds, so you're talking.
I guess in that case you'd be like nine of me. Yeah,
I'm not gonna mess with a bull like.
Speaker 4 (01:38:50):
That like Pattie, you know, in the terrace and watch
the people run as I'm drinking a beer or something.
Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
But I've never understood that. I've put that on your
lost Yes, at that, definitely too. Before Arnie's final list wait,
not finalist for the night, but third list for the night?
Speaker 7 (01:39:09):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
Third and final?
Speaker 4 (01:39:12):
Yeah, I think those only Yeah, third and finals?
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Fine.
Speaker 3 (01:39:14):
Before that, let me get a couple of quick texts
in here. I hope this one doesn't get me in trouble.
But I really like Eddie. I like the nature boy.
He writes, I remember when Doctor Ruth once advised one
of her callers that it was okay to use a
cucumber good times.
Speaker 1 (01:39:31):
Uh my.
Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
Michael writes, well, hold.
Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
On, hold, let me let me stay on theme here,
because Julian writes, Richard Simmons was a really good man.
He would not get the skinny women out there, or
he would not get the skinny women out there to
work out. He would get the real women that needed
help and make them work out really hard for their
own wellness.
Speaker 4 (01:39:51):
That's true. It's true about that Sweating with the Oldies.
Speaker 3 (01:39:54):
Yeah, Sweating with the Oldies was not one of the
videos that I was really excited when my mom would
put on and be like, oh.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Great, awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:40:02):
But everybody had that. That was like a that sold everywhere,
you know, Sweating.
Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
With the Oldies I remember, I remember because we weren't poor,
but we had one TV and you had one VCR.
I mean you kids, right right, It's it's pretty wild
to think about. I had no choice but to sit
there and watch and wait.
Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
Richard Simmons remember the Susanne Summers would have the thigh Master.
Everybody would get one of those. Also, Yeah, that was
that was a little later, right, Yes, that was later.
Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
Right, I think we had one of those two. My gosh,
what in the world.
Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
I did kind of like this for Michael because there
was another I don't want to say it was a list,
but an idea that you threw out that the NBA
has no stars. I'm not even an NBA guy, but
Luke and SGA Wimby this Cooper flag kid, Yeah, can't
fight any stars left.
Speaker 4 (01:40:53):
Arnie Well, first of all, Cooper Flags is a high
school seniors. Well, thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
Well he's got me a freshman.
Speaker 4 (01:40:59):
Yeah, and okay, it's good. Luca's great, no doubt about that.
Solz Webbe, you give me about four names out there,
but there's about a good twenty that are going to
retire that are Hall of famers.
Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
Chris Michael, we had the same fight like five years ago,
and it happened.
Speaker 3 (01:41:12):
It it rotates, it's it's it's fine. The NBA is
never gonna lack talent. Are people not playing basketball? Is
the NBA not paying the best basketball players?
Speaker 4 (01:41:22):
That we won't see the four year college guy and
we'll see a lot of foreigners, and maybe that will
take away from knowing who some of these players are.
Speaker 3 (01:41:32):
Well, we haven't seen the four year college guys in
a long time. Man, we're going back, Michael Jordan, It's
a long time ago, but I could not push back more.
I feel like the game is more global than it's
ever been. I feel like the game is getting the
best players the best. I think the NBA is more
athletic than it's ever been, and I don't think that
(01:41:53):
that's a question. I don't think you could even fight
back on that. Are you telling me that you don't
think these are better athletes and what we had back
our heyday of the league?
Speaker 4 (01:42:02):
They're better outfits as I mean, you think they're better shooters.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
Also, I think.
Speaker 3 (01:42:06):
They're infinitely better shooters in the league right now than
we had back in the day because they've been forced
to expand the range.
Speaker 2 (01:42:15):
Bush shot that you had.
Speaker 4 (01:42:17):
You had, you know, I have to saying to days
where we had like one hundred and twenty points and
we didn't have a three point line.
Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
Again, now I think they're even better shooters. That was
a lot of I don't know. I'm just gonna talk
out of my backside. They were just laying it up,
aren't he? They go inside of the big man. He
turned in each hue. There wasn't a lot of perimeters
shooting in that. It wasn't mid range jumper. You play
through the big man. I don't know if that's right.
Speaker 4 (01:42:38):
Or not, but yeah, it's well, it doesn't sound right three,
but go with it.
Speaker 2 (01:42:41):
Yeah, I go with It's worth going with.
Speaker 3 (01:42:43):
And then there was there was one more than I
wanted to get here before we put a rap and
got to the final list JJ checked in earlier JJ Wrights.
So while watching TV, I figured I checked some scores
on my app on my TV, and I see this
and boom, it pops up. Texans at Bear's Thursday August first,
(01:43:07):
let's go. It's starting to get to that point where
when you pull up your channel guides or when you
start looking at the calendars, it's getting closer. Now that's
a Thursday night game. So that's the first I see, second, third, fourth.
Now Arnie's gonna come in with me on that Sunday
night August to fourth and tell you how terrible everything
is and how it's unwatchable. But we'll take it right
(01:43:28):
Whenever you have been starving for football as long as
we've been starving for football, I don't care, Arnie, just
the idea that you can see it on your guide.
Speaker 2 (01:43:36):
It's exciting football.
Speaker 4 (01:43:38):
See we talked about this last week. Football season starts
when the first preseason game starts, the Hall of Fame game,
which is August seventh. As you mentioned Texans and the Bear,
So that's that's the seventh.
Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
I thought it was the first, the first.
Speaker 4 (01:43:56):
I'm sorry, the first. That's when football officially starts on Thursday.
They August first, as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker 3 (01:44:02):
All right, well, one final list from Arnie when we
come back. But first Steve de Sega rolls in with
a final update for us.
Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
What's going on? Steve?
Speaker 7 (01:44:10):
Hello there, and you mentioned on the list tennis. I
found the TV ratings of the classic Macenroe versus Borg
Wimbledon finals from the early eighties and that was.
Speaker 8 (01:44:21):
Eight million viewers. Wow on a Saturday morning.
Speaker 2 (01:44:24):
Beg wow.
Speaker 7 (01:44:25):
Course, compared to the men's final last year for Wimbledon
was under three and a half million viewers for ESPN,
So not on a real channel, I realized, not quite
Apple Staples, but you get the idea. But if you
want to mention lack of interest compared to before, you
should add the NBA regular season, because that's fair.
Speaker 8 (01:44:43):
That's fair their season that just ended.
Speaker 7 (01:44:46):
If you add up all the national TV games ESPN, ABC, TNT,
the NBA averaged about one point five to five million
viewers per game. Indy five hundred got over five million
viewers this year. In fact, signed up to carry every
IndyCar race next season, not on cable, on Fox TV.
(01:45:06):
Fox is gonna have Daytona five hundred still and the
Indy five hundred plus the Indie season, and you're right
about not horse racing in general. But the Kentucky Derby
is still a thing. They just had their largest TV
rating in decades for the Kentucky Derby.
Speaker 4 (01:45:20):
What did they get for that?
Speaker 7 (01:45:21):
It was over sixteen million dollars, so double what mcenroad
Bord gout years ago in the Wimbledon final.
Speaker 5 (01:45:30):
Well.
Speaker 7 (01:45:30):
US women's soccer won a pre Olympic exhibition in New Jersey,
won nothing against Mexico, sell out twenty six thousand fans
on hand despite the temperature of about ninety degree. Sophia
Smith with a goal in the sixty fourth minute. US
outshot him seventeen to three. The team sendoff matches Tuesday
in DC against Costa Rica before they leave for the
Olympics in Paris. Next Saturday night. US Olympic women's basketball
(01:45:54):
team has its sendoff game against a team of WNBA stars.
WNBA wins today for LA at Dallas and for New York,
which won at Chicago. New York's twenty and four Chicago
rookie Angel Reefs eight points, sixteen rebounds. She was three
of thirteen from the floor, She'd had fifteen straight double
doubles until today. The Charlotte Hornets are signing veteran Taj
(01:46:15):
Gibson in the NBA Summer League. These were the two
late games for the Utah Jazz rookie Kyle Philipowski with
ten points. Utah won a ninety to eighty nine over
Dallas and Golden State guard Brandon Pajemski with sixteen points.
Warriors beat Phoenix by seventeen and The next US Olympic
tune up games are Monday and Wednesday from Abu Dhabi
(01:46:38):
on FS one with the time difference it's noon Eastern
time Monday and Wednesday against Australia and then Serbia, and
on Fox TV Tomorrow the Eurosccer Final three pm Eastern
time and the Copa America Final Sunday night. The eurofinal
from Berlin is England versus Spain. England won its semifinal
(01:46:58):
in this tournament on a late goal. It won its
quarterfinal on penalty kicks. Before that, it won a comeback
in overtime. The Copa America Final from Miami eight pm
Eastern Sunday night, has Argentina, ranked number one in the world,
against a Columbia team that is unbeaten in its last
twenty eight games over the last two and a half years.
Speaker 4 (01:47:19):
I think I picked Columbia to when it didn't Arnie's picks.
Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
My goodness, I think you picked team USA.
Speaker 8 (01:47:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, to beat Uruguay.
Speaker 7 (01:47:29):
Uruguay won the third place game tonight, by the way
on penalty kicks against Canada. The Wimbledon Women's final went
to Barber Krachikova in three sets. In the last eight years,
eight different women have won the Wimbledon title. Men's finalist
Sunday Novak Djokovic against Carlos Alcarez. Golf's British Open is
next week. Scottish Open finishes up tomorrow. Ludwig Oberg leads
(01:47:50):
by two strokes over a golfer from Scotland, Robert McIntyre.
Wide receiver Adam Thielen fell to a tie for third
at the Celebrity Golf Tournament at Lake Tahoe. X ten
player Marty Fish now leads on a Casaoran Stama is
in six. John Smoltz down to tie for ninth place.
Charles Barkley not doing too bad this weekend. Out of
ninety golfers, He's tied for fifty first, tied with Roger Clemens.
(01:48:12):
Alex Rodriguez is next to last. Cole Custer won NASCAR's
Sixfinity race at Pocono. Justin Algeier finished second. Custer is
the reigning champ in that series. Yes Hall of Fame
exhibition for the NFL August first, but rookie started reporting
to training camp today, at least for the Baltimore Ravens.
In MLB Action, Detroit came back with a tenth inning
(01:48:33):
homer to beat the Dodgers eleven nine. The Yankees Aaron
Judge hit his thirty fourth homer in another win at Baltimore,
six to one. Texas won in ten innings, two to
one at Houston. Texas is hosting the All Star Game
Tuesday night on Fox TV. Mets won their fifth in
a row. Miami lost its fifth straight. The Cubs had
won five straight and then got swept in a doubleheader
(01:48:53):
at Saint Louis. Padres had lost five in a row,
but tonight shut out the Braves for nothing, and the
late game went to Arizona winning it four straight twelve
one over Toronto Corbyn Carrol Tooholmer's six RBI expeck to you.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
Hey, have a great I almost said week, Steve see
tomorrow night.
Speaker 8 (01:49:09):
Tell tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (01:49:09):
Yes, dude, that's exciting. Steve Sager tomorrow night. All right, Arnie,
you have one more list, one more list, right, we
have to get to yes. All right.
Speaker 3 (01:49:20):
So far, if you've missed the show tonight, if you're
just getting in late, or if you're catching it on
the pod our first list was the top five quarterbacks.
If I say any of them wrong, I'm going through
the Roman numerals here to get him right. Mahomes one,
Josh Allen two, CJ. Stroud three, Joe Burrow four and
two of five.
Speaker 4 (01:49:39):
Now there, good list.
Speaker 3 (01:49:42):
Maybe we should also add this little caveat to your list.
It is also for the upcoming year, so this is
in a lot of ways a projection, right of what
you think the upcoming year is going to look like.
The second list, Top five sporting events that sporting events,
people events, whatever, that people no longer care about. Horse
(01:50:04):
racing was one Kentucky Derby and that makes Andy five
hundred and two, minting women's sinis three, followed by boxing
and golf.
Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
My incorrect.
Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
So far, in any of these you're right on those
two so far.
Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
All right, finally I got two choices here, But I'm
gonna go with this the five NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
Players that will have a bad year. I'm saving it.
Speaker 4 (01:50:25):
Wow, I thought you were gonna go with the five
most intriguing teams to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
Because you put Arizona on the list.
Speaker 3 (01:50:32):
Arizona, everybody watch our stars that will have a bad year.
According to Arnie Spaniel, yes.
Speaker 4 (01:50:40):
Five NFL players are stars that will have a bad
year in the NFL. Number one Aaron Rodgers. This whole
thing where one hundred and forty two year old guy
is going to come back from some major injury. Of
course doesn't come to camp because he's too busy in
Egypt doing whatever the hell he's doing, and it's gonna
(01:51:01):
come back so easily on a Jet team who really
isn't as great as everybody's making him out to be.
I just don't see it. I think Aaron Rodgers is
due for a really not even a mediocre year. I'm
talking about a bad year. And Christian, you know what,
it cracks me up about this whole thing. The Jets
are twenty to one to win the Super Bowl. The
(01:51:23):
Dolphins are twenty four to one, the Jets actually have
better odds than the Miami Dolphins. Splain that to me,
my friend. I have no idea what Vegas is doing.
But Aaron Rodgers number one on the list. Derrick Henry
number two, his time is coming gone. He has worn down.
He has gotten a lot of carries over the last
(01:51:45):
what three four years of his NFL career. It's gonna
finally catch up to him. I think he's gonna go
ahead and slow down in yardage and it's just gotten
way too much for him. You still think he's got it, Christian,
You still think Derrick Henry's got it? Or what?
Speaker 2 (01:52:00):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (01:52:01):
But every single time I see him, every single time
I see like a workout video, I fall for it.
It's like, whoa is he pulling a bus? Is he
working out with two tires that he's throwing? He's physically
one of the most impressive guys. I think he's landed
in a good spot though.
Speaker 4 (01:52:18):
All right, number three. It is kind of a contradiction
here because I said, yeah, well, because I said that
he's been good up till now, but then he got hurt,
and I'm afraid that injury. I'm afraid he's not going
to come back as strong, going to have a bad
year this year. And that's Joe Burrow. Now. I love
Joe Burrow. I think he's a top five quarterback in
(01:52:38):
the NFL. But coming back from the injury in that division,
and I told you that division is just brutal. I
think he's in for a bad year. I think it's
going to be real tough. At least it's not up
to Joe Burrow standards. So I got Burrow at number three,
number four. They haven't added anybody this whole.
Speaker 2 (01:52:56):
We're in it to win it this Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (01:52:59):
No, I'm just stop the Dallas Cowboy. Oh, I mean
Jerry Jera said he was in it to win it.
They we're gonna do everything they can to win it.
They haven't done squat Dak Prescott really has no weapons.
And let me tell you something. The reason he hasn't
gotten the big contract is because the Cowboys aren't really
sure they want to keep him around. They're thinking there's
(01:53:21):
probably better options than to pay him a boatload of money.
And look, who's number five, Chris? Why don't you read
number five to everybody?
Speaker 3 (01:53:29):
Number five on the list of players who will have
a bad season. Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 4 (01:53:36):
You know, I heard probably know even talking about this.
He's anti Lamar Jackson. Where are you saying how overrated
he is? Look, granted, yes, he won an MVP, and
I'll give you that, but maybe it's more of the system.
Here's a guy that doesn't even pass in the top
ten in yardage. Everybody loves this guy. Well, he's got
the big money, he's got the new contract. He had
(01:53:56):
a little bit of an injury problem, and see what
happens next year. I don't think it's going to be
good for Baltimore. I don't think Omar Jackson gonna have
a good year.
Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
There Go, there's Arnie's five players who are up for
a bad season. That is the defending MVP right now.
And by the way, Aaron Rodgers on the list too.
Whenever he played what three snaps last year? So you
know he's gonna have a better year than he had
last year.
Speaker 4 (01:54:20):
I just said, I didn't say better than last year.
I said have a bad year.
Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
All right, Okay, okay, okay, you're.
Speaker 4 (01:54:25):
Not gonna have a good year. Stopping, Chris stopping, And I.
Speaker 3 (01:54:28):
Said, I'm just telling you right now, I'm not ready
to punt on Aaron Rodgers like you, Oh, punt, believe
me punt.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
When we come back, we'll put a rap with Arnie's picks.
Get you ready for Bernie.
Speaker 3 (01:54:39):
Next on Fox Sports Radio, you get Kiri Us dropping
the bombs, dropping the jams.
Speaker 5 (01:54:46):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:54:47):
Hey, breaking news on the biggest story maybe in our
world in quite a while, Arnie. According to a statement
from the FBI, they've identified the shooter.
Speaker 5 (01:55:00):
So a.
Speaker 3 (01:55:02):
Big moment, and I think the story had been out
there for quite a while about Hey, this is the guy.
But CBS News, this is Robert Costa, Chief Election of
Campaign correspondent, Breaking news via the FBI. The FBI has
identified Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the
subject involved in the assassination of tempt of former President
(01:55:25):
Donald Trump on July thirteenth in Butler, Pennsylvania. This remains
an active and ongoing investigation. So we live in crazy times, man.
And the story was broke to me by Arnie because
I had gone, You're the only person I'll take a
call from or.
Speaker 2 (01:55:40):
A text from. I'm like, Hey, I'm with my kid.
Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
That's all matters. Arnie's gonna send me eight hundred stories.
If I don't keep up with them, I won't be
good on the show tonight. I got to read them all.
When you broke that news to me, man, I was
blown away.
Speaker 2 (01:55:52):
What a day.
Speaker 4 (01:55:53):
Listen, before you do, you just want to get to
your picks here, you have that much before worry. But
I'm not going to do the All Star Game and
I'm not gonna do the home run contest. I'm gonna
save that for tomorrow night for our show. But I
do have three picks, so let's take it away. Let's
get your my three picks. Well, the USA is in
a friendly, as you call it, against our Australia in basketball.
(01:56:17):
So that game is actually on Monday at noon, I believe.
But I'm gonna give that one. Now. I think USA
probably runs away with it, wins it by about fifteen
points least, I'm hoping. So I'm gonna go with USA
and that one.
Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
I'm telling you, I'm telling you they're gonna win, at
least I hope. At least I hope. That's not confidence.
Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
I am going to take Argentina over a Columbia, So
I'll go with dow one and I'm gonna go with
England over Spain, even though Spain is the slight favorite
and then more than slight favorite or the over well,
they're the favorite in that one, but I'm gonna take
England to pull off a little bit of an upset.
So there you have my picks. Do with you please,
(01:56:56):
no longer strictly for entertainment purposes.
Speaker 2 (01:56:58):
Only you couldn't even hear umber me with like a
NASCAR pick or anything for tomorrow. You couldn't. Couldn't at
least give me that.
Speaker 4 (01:57:05):
No, not really, I guess I could have I should
have done that.
Speaker 3 (01:57:08):
But I'm excited about this week that's coming up.
Speaker 4 (01:57:12):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:57:12):
This is yeah big twelve media days last week and
it's talking season, so it's all the same and it's
all I mean, listen, I love it, but it's all
kind of dumb.
Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
No one's gonna get You're not gonna get any breaking news.
Speaker 3 (01:57:24):
Oh my gosh, Georgian, it's twenty four traffic issues that
it's had with its with its team is going to
suspend these guys. You're not gonna get any news like that.
You might get a coach that sticks his foot in
his mouth, like my guy, Mike Gundy did this.
Speaker 4 (01:57:38):
I had a dream that somebody said, where's Chris Plank?
Did you say that the Big twelve is like Division
three football is?
Speaker 3 (01:57:47):
I were just that's gonna be my luck, And I'm like, no,
you know it's my guy, Arnie, he's a peach.
Speaker 4 (01:57:54):
We want to get that sound by which if please
said that to us, well we.
Speaker 3 (01:57:58):
Have to find the one when for the spring game,
whenever coach Vinibles walks in, he looks around, he goes
his planking here, and it's just fantastic.
Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
But I mean that was out of love.
Speaker 3 (01:58:09):
That wasn't someone that was trying to tell me how
stupid I am because I would call the Big twelve
Division III football?
Speaker 2 (01:58:14):
Why didn't you go to media days? It was in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (01:58:16):
You should have called the boss man and said I
need to be there to cover Big twelve media days?
Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
And what did you think about what the PAC twelve did?
Speaker 3 (01:58:24):
PAC two now because it went from Big twelve Media
Days right and before Mountain West Media Day started, Arnie,
they did a happy hour for the Pack two media
days and it was an open bar. It was a
brilliant idea to get people to go to it. But
I think they know they're not in a good spot
going forward with Washington State in Oregon State.
Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
I don't know what's gonna happen to that, but obviously
they're gonna have some type of restructuring. But yeah, that
was kind of funny where they had a happy hour
so people get free bruze and you might as well
go cover it.
Speaker 2 (01:58:55):
Hey, can I pose one random question as we go
out the door?
Speaker 4 (01:58:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:58:59):
Yeah, if Oregon State and why you being a PAC
twelve guy your whole life, If Oregon State and Washington
State come to an agreement with the Mountain West and
they all come together, would you have a problem if
that group punted on the Mountain West name and adopted
it as the PAC twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:59:16):
Oh, I have no problem with that. I'm fine, Okay,
that's okay. Yeah, I mean, if they want to go
with the PAC twelve, that's our Packton or whatever it is.
If they want to go with the Mountain West, I'm
okay with that also. But that's only a name. It
doesn't bother me at all.
Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:59:30):
Every now and then I have these moments where I'm
like in shock that the PAC twelve is in a
thing or the PAC ten isn't a thing anymore. And
how close it came, Arnie came so close to being
the dominant force in the universe.
Speaker 4 (01:59:43):
I mean, it's still shocked that it's like this. Also,
I was shocked ever since Jucla in USA said goodbye.
I'm like, is this really happening? Is this what's going on?
Speaker 3 (01:59:53):
And it's funny because I don't think anyone that had
to leave recently stand for cal who Utah, Arizona. Maybe
Colorado always seemed like as great of a fit we
thought they were in the Back twelve, they were better
than Big twelve. Seemed like everyone wanted it to stay together.
Unfortunately it won't for now.
Speaker 2 (02:00:14):
But at least they had a good idea for their
media days. But it'll be fun. We'll talk more about
it tomorrow night. ALRENI, great stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:00:19):
Thanks thanks as always for the incredible Roman Numeral rundown.
Thanks to as always, all of our tweets.
Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
And all our guests. We'll be back tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (02:00:28):
Thanks Mark Medina for joining us, Thanks to Carris for
coming into work on a Saturday night. Arnie and I
are back tomorrow night at this exact same time. Bernie's
knackt from Fox Sports Radio
