Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Well, that's right, you heard the man that time of week.
My name is Bernie Frattle. We're coming to you live
from the tyrack dot com studios here in Las Vegas
tirect dot com. We'll help you get there and on
match selection, fast free shipping for your road as a protection,
and over ten thousand recommend an installers tyraq dot com.
The Way tire buying should be an absolute jam packed show. Tonight,

(00:26):
we promised to have another raucous midnight hour with your
calls at midnight Pacific time. You had about an hour
from now. From where I sit, it will be midnight
literally in Las Vegas, and from where you sit it'll
either be literally midnight or Figuras with midnight. As we
look forward. I'll set those topics up a little later
in the show. And we have three very prominent names

(00:50):
in the news this week, all arouse emotion. Two of
the three are very polarizing, but people care. The opposite
of love is not hate, it's indifferent. So you've all
got opinions. Certainly, we are going to get to the
Danny Hurley situation. I told Ian I called him on Sunday.
He'll back me on this. I said, whether our win

(01:10):
lose or drawing ian on this, you know, I want
you to pull the sound because I was veheman about
the fact I did not think Bobby Hurley, Danny Hely,
excuse me, was coming to the Lakers and I've got receipts.
We also have to get to the Caitlin Clark situation
and our multiple angles. They'll do that bottom of the
hour and we are in a minute. I'm going to
give a tribute to Jerry West. I only met Jerry

(01:34):
West one time, but you knew you were in the
presence of royalty. I'll explain why in just a second,
but ever so quickly. The gratuitous coverage of the NBA Finals.
Do we have a series, No, we don't have a series.
We got bupp gus please please If Dallas goes to
Boston on Monday and wins, and then comes back and

(01:56):
wins in Dallas in Game six, we'll talk about it then, okay.
But in the meantime, yeah, sure, we got a serious
I think you had a better chance of led Zeppelin
the re recording the Gilligans Island theme song and selling
a million copies than watching these MAVs come back and
beat Boston. Boston will not a walk about tonight. They
do that, I think they're gonna I think they're gonna

(02:18):
ride Dallas like a stick horse on Monday. I could
be wrong. They're a seven point favorite, but a couple
things give Don Chick and Kyrie. They finally got some
help from their supporting cast. Their role players stepped up,
Luka played some defense. How about that the MAVs killed
the Celtics and all the hustle stats. Whoop d damn

(02:38):
do okay? Whoop d dam do Boston look like a
disinterested team tonight? But you know it's against a law
of practice psychology without a license, even though I do
it often. So let's just leave it right there. The
one thing, the loss of Christavs persingus in games three
and four, frankly, has been significant. The numbers don't lie.
For the second straight game, the MAVs just poll acts

(03:00):
the Celtics and the paint earinning a sixty to twenty
six advantage on the rebounding side. By the way, is
scoring in the paint excuse me? And that doncis nerving
scored all the mass first ten points coming in the paint,
so clearly, Boston, missus porsingis we are a long ways
away from discussing whether or not there could be some

(03:21):
high drama basketball here, So let's just leave it right there.
There's my ninety seconds of gratuitous NBA Finals coverage. I'm
sorry this has had all the excitement of a Woody
Allen rerun movie that you hated in the first place.
Actually I like woodyell movies. Why did I go there? Okay,
let's get to the meet. Jerry West passed this week,

(03:42):
and I want to get one thing off my chest
because one of the narratives around Jerry West has always been, well,
only want one championship. Look, Jerry West is not like Lebron.
When you lose, he blames everybody else, and when he wins,
he takes all the credit. I want to share with
you just a small slice of history because Jerry West
never would have said this. And I only met him
one time, and when I got to talk to him,

(04:04):
I looked at him and I go, my god, this
guy listens to you on a different level. And anybody
who's met West, and here's me right now. We'll talk
about this with Mark Mendin it is Saturday night. Those
that I'm talking about. He had an extreme ara about him,
Jerry West. He was an extremely special human being and
a somewhat tortured human being. He was a human being.

(04:25):
But when the Lakers lost to the Celtics in nineteen
sixty nine, I want to share some things that people
don't know about, you know, because back then the games
were played on tape delay, and look, people, the NBA
Finals were an afterthought. That's all the way up till
nineteen seventy nine. Did I watch a game? No, I
didn't watch a game, but I'm a historian. I know
about the game, and I was an intern at the form,

(04:47):
and I know a lot of people. West was actually
in the finals of He was the MVP of the
Finals that season, the only, the only Finals MVP in
the history of the NBA Finals. That's the Department of
Redundancy department to garner that award in a losing effort.

(05:10):
See Boston won the series four to three. But here's
a big butt peewee. In Game four, they beat the
Lakers eighty nine eighty eight. That was the final eighty
nine eighty eight of the eighty eight points the Lakers scored.
West had forty forty. He was ten or ten from
the free throw line. Will who's a pretty good player.

(05:30):
He shot two for eleven from the free throw line
that night. Elgin Baylor was one of five from the
free throw line that night. Those two superstars combined for three.
They went three for sixteen from the free throw line.
If they had gone five for sixteen, the Lakers were
won that championship. In Game seven, the Lakers lost by

(05:53):
two points. West made fourteen none of eighteen free throws.
The rest of the team win fourteen twenty nine. It
was hack a shack before that was even So, when
people try to tell me that West only one ring,
let me tell you something. There's all kinds of NBA
Finals records that Jerry West set one because of him,
and Jerry would have never said that, but I can.

(06:13):
He said, here's the deal. When it was announced Wednesday
morning that Jerry West passed at age eighty six, people
think they know who this guy was. Okay, most do,
most many don't. He clearly was one of the most
influential figures in NBA history period, but not just NBA history.
He was an All American in West Virginia, He won

(06:34):
a gold medal in the Roma Olympics in nineteen sixty.
He played for the Lakers for fourteen seasons. His last
year was nineteen seventy four. That's fifty years ago. Okay
led the team to an NBA title in seventy two.
He was again, as I mentioned, NBA Finals MVP when
the Lakers lost to the Bill Russell led Celtics in

(06:55):
sixty nine herculean effort. I think he had more than
forty points in four of the games. Matter of fact,
Jerry West in the history of the NBA Finals has
more forty point games than anybody in history and more
thirty point games than anybody in history. He was also
a great, tenacious defender and a superb passer. He was
an All Star in every single season of his fourteen
year career. Now nineteen seventy six. Two years after Jerry

(07:16):
West retired, he became the head coach of the Lakers,
and he led to the team to the playoffs three
straight years. And then he decided to transition into a
scouting role. And this is where Jerry West truly puts
an exclamation point on him being a genuine basketball savant.
I called Jerry West the Simon Cowell of basketball. Now,

(07:42):
why do I do that? Y'all know who Simon Kyle is.
He's a billionaire for a very good reason. Simon Kyle,
even as a young man in England, not only had
a gift to ascertain whether or not somebody could sing,
he was able to truly project whether or not this
individual who could sing, whether or not their songs would

(08:02):
be commercially successful. And he was a cannily right, candidly right.
Jerry West was the same way. I don't know if
there's better ever been a better talent evaluator in the
history of the NBA. Then he was named general manager
of the Lakers in eighty two. It was Jerry West
who really helped dissemble the historic Showtime roster, which won

(08:22):
five championships. West ten years later NBA Executive of the Year.
He's the one who made the trade that brought Kobe
Bryant to Los Angeles and signed Shaquille O'Neal as a
free agent. Then he won a sixth championship as an
executive in two thousand. Then he left the Lakers. The
team that Jerry West assembled won three consecutive titles from

(08:45):
two thousand to two thousand and two. Then Jerry West
went to work as the general manager of the Memphis
Grizzlies for five years. Won his second NBA Executive of
the Year award in two thousand and four. He then
joined the Golden State Warriors front office twenty eleven and
was part of two more championship teams in fifteen and seventeen.
In total, Jerry West had a hand in nine NBA

(09:07):
titles as a player and executive. Yeah, I know Lebron
wants to be executive, but you might want to leave
the Russell Westburg thing off your resume, just saying. One
of West's nicknames was the logo. It's the silhouette that's
been featured on the NBA logo that was created and
has been since nineteen sixty nine. There's a whole backstory
there that even includes Dick Shapp. I'll tell it maybe

(09:29):
later tonight or on My Saturday show. Then, of course,
Jerry West was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame
as a player in twenty ten. He was also inducted
into the Hall of Fame as a contributor to the
sport for his work as an executive and consultant. Just
a few months ago. Jerry West was a man of
immense talent, but he also had a work ethic that

(09:53):
was clearly unmatched. This is how he had the Hall
of Fame career with the Lakers, became a fourteen time
NBA All Star World Champion in seventy two. When he
retired in seventy five, again, he went on to become
one of the best general managers in the NBA, Executive
of the Year, et cetera, et cetera, etc. Here's the
part where Jerry West is truly human. For all of
his success, he was a tortured soul. He really could

(10:14):
knock you it over as a session with winning. He
had tremendous scars in his childhood. He trolled Roy Firestone
that he pointed a shotgun at his father one night
when his father was physically abusing his mother for the
YOUMPT Team time and said, if you don't stop, I
will kill you. And I believe Roy said, you know,
you'd have gone to jail. He goes, I know, but
I would have killed him. You see, to look in

(10:35):
his eye, that's some serious stuff, folks. At times, Jerry
West would become so down he would isolate himself and
avoid social interactions, even from his wife and children. But
the truth of the matter is the world not only
lost their great basketball player on Wednesday, they lost their
great human being. He was an incredible executive, a great
spokesperson for how to deal with depression, and in the end,

(10:57):
Jerry West was a genuine role model as a player
and as a human being. He shared his personal demons
in his battles with the hope that other people would
seek help. This barely scratches the surface of truly who
Jerry West was as a basketball player, a man, an executive,

(11:17):
a human being, an athlete, an icon, and a role model.
There's no way we could do with justice. I'd have
to spend the whole three hours, and perhaps we'll touch
on it over the weekend when I have a couple
more Jerry West anecdotes I will share with you coming up. Bobby,
why do I keep saying Bobby Hurley? Maybe it's because
Bobby Hurley has always lorded over Danny. Not anymore, Not anymore.

(11:42):
Danny Hurley, as I thought, did not take the Lakers job.
I'm going to get into the weeds a little bit
here and tell you why and why for me, it
was completely expected. Do I think it was a leverage plate? No?
Maybe in someblat inert No, that was not as intent.
I understand how people would draw that conclusion, but that's

(12:03):
not his makeup. When you look into his roots, his influence,
from his father, his wife, growing up in that culture
in Jersey City, what really drives him? And it ain't
money and it ain't fame. Like a lot of people,
I hear some people say, well, the Lakers call you
gotta jump? Really, why is that? Well, Danny Hurley didn't.

(12:23):
I want to talk about that coming up and set
the record, strate and reconcile what I told En and
lu folks on the air last week, and we will
move forward on that. I'm Bernie Friderwick keviny lyon from
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tireck dot com studios.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
All right, back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Spards Radio.
We are coming to you live from the La Vegas
tyrac dot com studios. We'll take you up to two
am Pacific, FAVEM Eastern. Just getting started. All right, A
week ago tonight, I said it, and I repeated it
on Saturday, I thought there was a ten percent chance

(14:17):
that Danny Hurley would take the Lakers job. I brought receipts.
I'll have more receipts, and I told the in the
next day, I said, he in, please grab the sound.
I'll take my medicine either way. But I feel very
strongly this week, and I started making phone calls, and
the more I talk to people, the more I realized
one percent was probably ten percent was probably one percent.

(14:38):
So let's turn back the clock a week and give
it a Listen to what I said. In case you've
been on Mars or you haven't heard. The Lakers are
targeting Danny Hurley. Is that Danny Hurley. He may have
no NBA coaching experience, but he is an exquisite coach.
He's done well everywhere he's been, and he is looking

(14:59):
to three p at Yukon, where he's truly built a culture.
He has built a family, a loyal family. I'm going
to make a bold prediction, and it's an opinion, but
it's what I would call an educated opinion. I'm going
to predict there's only a ten percent chance Danny Hurley
becomes the Lakers head coach. Now, not because I don't

(15:20):
think Danny Hurley's fabulous or do a great job. I
think he would not because it'll be the Lakers turning
him down. I think when push comes to showf early
will turn down the Lakers, and I'll take my medicine.
And I think we should know by next week at
this time. We're not going to know the next couple
of days, and I think I think by next week
at this time, and I'd sign out for my Friday

(15:41):
show June fourteenth, I think we'll know. So here we are.
Let's start with this. If you haven't noticed, Danny Hurley
is the perfect frontman for modern college basketball. He's got
a big enough personality to put the sport on his shoulders.
He's got that fiery persona that they can call upon

(16:02):
becomes sometimes a side show, but he's also a very thoughtful,
introspective person. If you don't think so, how in this
crazy age of nil transfer portal and all the michigots
that goes along with it, can he be a guy
that has this roster construction that's a model that people
are trying to copy. He takes guys from the transfer portal,

(16:25):
brings in elite freshmen, top transfers, multi year rotation players.
NBA draft choices still manages to emphasize player development messes,
all of them. Creating a team with a whole is
better than some of its parts. Danny Hurley has brought
so many new ideas to the table from an x's
and no standpoint. He's even got Lebron raving about him.

(16:48):
Danny Hurley has brought new ideas to the table from
an x's and no standpoint because he embraces an offensive
system that runs more sets than just about anybody in
college basketball, and he has influenced other schools. He's influenced overseas,
pro teams, high school teams, AAU games. He's doing it,
by the way, at a true basketball school at Yukon.

(17:10):
This is a program that won three titles under Jim
Calhoun and another other Kavanalli and Yukon has said, forget it,
we're a basketball school. We're betting big on hoops over football.
They that's the American for the Big East in twenty twenty.
Tells you everything you need to know. Now, as I
mentioned last week, here's why I believe that Danny Hurley
would never take the job. Number One. Chuck Daly once

(17:34):
told me that coaching at the NBA is all about
managing an adult daycare center. I don't say that in
the pejorative. He's are grown men, or you could say
grown ash men if you want to sound cool. And
they have jobs and families and lives and their multi
millionaires and you got to treat these men like men.
And Chuck Daly knew how to do that. Daddy Rich knew.
You walking a who's this guy with the Italian suits?

(17:54):
I don't care about him. You gotta win him over.
You know, Danny Hurley is a teacher. He's his father's son,
and that's really his the gift he brings the ability
to teach basketball on an individual and team concept level.
So here's a cliche. The NBA is a players league.
College basketball is a coaches league. You see where I'm

(18:16):
going with this. He's already allegedly Yukon. He's got a
legit chance to three peat. I had a caller last
week saying, that's no big deal. Really, well, the only
guy that's done it was John Wooden. Can you imagine
me a name in the same breath as John Wooden.
This is so good for college basketball that he's returning. Now.
I knew the minute he got home. I mean he could,

(18:39):
you know, I judge people by their actions. Don't tell
me he show me he could wait to get out
of LA. He did. He even spend the night there,
got back, went to the Billie Joe concert with his
assistant coach. The minute he got back. There's not a
doubt in my mind. He had a caucus with his
wife Andrea and his dad and they said, son, you
know who you are. This is not you, at least
not right now. Okay, maybe you get an NBA job

(19:01):
down the road, but don't miss his chance in history.
And you've preached loyalty, and you had players like Alex
Caravan who said, I'm not going to go to the NBA. Coach,
you would have been a clear draft choice. I'm coming back.
This will be the number one story to watch in
college basketball this year, Danny Hurley's quest two and three.
So we returned because he's a family guy, and it's

(19:21):
all about family where he's at, the culture, his father,
his wife, his team, the loyalty. Jason Smith is right,
he was never gonna leave. I don't think leverage was
his goal with some of that in there, maybe, and
so what you know, what you play your hand in life.
If you've got that hand to play, I don't think
that's problematic at all. Maybe that became part of it,

(19:43):
But I don't know how much leverage he needs. He's
won back to back titles. Who they hell they're going
to hire you? By the way, he already turned down
Kentucky as well. That doesn't know where his really hard is.
His heart is, by the way, with all due respect,
and I lived a lot of my life in southern California,
La eight for everybody, all right, moving from Jersey City
where he's from. Well he lives in Stores, Connecticut now.

(20:04):
But his wife talks about that, she's a Jersey girl
through and through, and she can channel on her inner
Snookie anytime she wants, you're gonna go to La That's
an entirely different planet. I don't think they would have acclimated.
And then you're in this white hot spotlight called the Lakers.
And if you win, Lebron will take the credit. Suck
all the room out of the air. I can't even talk,
suck all the air of the room. And if you lose, well,

(20:27):
you know who's gonna get the blame. And they've had
seven coaches since Phil Jackson. This is Lebron's fourth. It's
a circus. And then he got the Bronni James situation.
You know, Lebron, if Bronni's so excited about having Danny
Hurley coach him, why don't you have him in a
roll at Yukon. Let's see if he makes a team,
he gets on the floor, then he can have Danny
Hurley coach him full time. How about them apples? All right?

(20:48):
So the truth of the matter is this didn't make
sense anywhere. And I know for some people who are
starstruck having the Lakers tap you on the shoulder as
the greatest thing since Pepperoni pizza. How can you turn
that down? Easy? Let me tell you something I will
go to my grave believing Darbnham got screwed. I know
you all think you're smarter than he is. I remember
Darvinham on the two thousand and four Pistons. He was

(21:10):
a great role player. That's the team Larry Brown coached,
and they beat the Lakers in five games with defense
and defensive chemistry. It was amazing. Darvinham was a dude, man.
I love the guy. Maybe I maybe talked to him
one time, If that, yeah, I think I did. He
was a great guy. He got the Lakers to the
NBA Conference Finals last year. He's twenty four games over

(21:34):
five hundred, and you're always going to find something on
the Lakers coach. He did with Frank Vogel to do
with everybody. It's the word on Lincoln's nose. So why
would Danny Hurley subject himself to that? When he's on
top of the world in a very popular sport, he'll
be the number one story. He's a great ambassador for
college basketball. He's got the cheat code, man, and he's

(21:55):
got his family, and he's all about family. And the
Lakers can preach family. This ain't a family. This era
of the Laker of basketball is really frankly a bit
of a circus act. With all due respect and I
respect the Lakers organization. I still think they're iconic. I
know if once Boston passes them, it gets their nineteenth title.
The Lakers aren't gonna like it. Well, they're gonna have

(22:15):
to do something about it. But it ain't gonna happen
anytime soon. We'll talk about this later. We might be
talking about this in the midnight hours. To hold that
thought in about thirty minutes, will be taking your calls
eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six, sixty three, sixty nine.
Coming up, Caitlin Clark, meet Charles Barkley and Isaiah Thomas.
Why would I invoke those names? Well, i'll tell you.
Coming up first, let's go to our guy, Kevin Figures

(22:37):
with the latest.

Speaker 6 (22:38):
All right, Bernie and the Celtics have to put the
brooms away.

Speaker 7 (22:40):
On Friday night, the Mavericks winning Game four of the
NBA Finals, and convincing fashion at that. The Finals score
one twenty two to eighty four, the third most lopsided
margin in the history of the Finals. Luca Doantics scoring
a game high twenty nine points, Kyrie Irving chipping in
twenty one points and six assists. The Celtics still lead
the series three games to one and can close out
at home on Game five on Monday Nights and Mitch

(23:02):
and Charles Barkley. He did announce after the game that
next season will be his last as a commentator on
TV for the NBA. At the US Open, litt vic
Obert shot a one hundred sixty nine. He has a
one stroke lead over Bryson De'shambeau and a couple of others.
Scottie Scheffler barely made the cut at five older, while
Tiger Woods missed the cut.

Speaker 6 (23:20):
In Major League.

Speaker 7 (23:20):
Baseball, the Dodgers got the tie breaking RBI single from
Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the eighth to come
back and beat the Royals four to three. Mitch Garver
went deep for Seattle in a three to two victory
over the Rangers. Arizona all over the White Sox, seven
to one victories for the Twins, Phillies, and Atlanta.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
Back to Bernie Fritto.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
All right, thanks, Kevin, All right, let's talk Caitlin Clark.
You may have heard of her. She is perpetually in
the news. And Caitlin Clark has clearly arrived, clearly arrived.
Everything that's happened to her, from the elbow in the
back and slamming her on the floor from behind, to
all the name calling, the jealousy, the anger, the petulance. Dude,

(24:00):
they don't take shots at you if you sit at
the end of the bench. Caitlin Clark has arrived because
of the hate, I'm telling you. And it sort of
came to a boil last weekend when they named the
Olympic roster and Caitlin Clark was omitted. Now, this may
come as a surprise to you, but I'm okay with
a decision. I get the decision. I actually do while

(24:22):
being a huge Caitland Clark plan, huge Caitlin Clark supporter,
and I'll give you my receipts coming up here just
a second. But the truth of the matter is Caitlin
Clark's not the first person to be left off of
an All Star team or an Olympic team. And I know,
I realize, you know, they keep making it up as
they go along. These people who run the committee in

(24:44):
the NBA. The lack of leadership in total inability for
me to create some kind of cojing narrative. They just
make it up. As it go along again. It's like
the Woody Allen movie. You know, bananas. I'll tell that
story later in the show. I might need Mark to
tea at my lafe track. But let me just stay
on point here because I'm holding two thoughts concurrently. I

(25:07):
think Kaitlyn Clark. Well, First of all, Kaitlin Clark's the
all time leading scorer. You may not like that, but
it's a fact. See, because ideal an objective truth, not
personal feels when it comes to speaking my mind. Everybody's
up in their fields about this. But you know what
if I told you back in nineteen eighty four, Bobby
Knight cut a guy by the name of Charles Barkley
part of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and that

(25:30):
team went on to win a gold medal. Barkley was tremendous.
He was a guy who'd blocked. He'd dunk on one
end of the four and fly back to the under the
floor and block your shot played on both ends of
the floor. They may have been called the ron man
the rebound, but he could do it all. Barkley would
have been a great asset to that team. Bobby Knight
cut him. Didn't like him. There are reasons he didn't
like him, didn't like his attitude, I guess, but the

(25:53):
rest is history. And I always believed Knight made a mistake.
But they went on to win the gold medal. Oh yeah,
back in nineteen ninety two. Now, you may or may
not remember when the Pistons lost to the Bulls and
the Torches. It were was passed to Michael Jordan, Isaiah Thomas,
and Crewe walked off the floor. Not all of them,

(26:14):
Joe Dumar state on. A lot of guys stayed on
the floor, but Isaiah walked off with about a minute
a half to go. And wasn't I like Isaiah. It's
not one of his better looks. Well. About eight months later,
the Olympic Basketball Dream Team Committee was assembling their team
and they had not gotten a commitment from Michael Jordan,
and Michael Jordan was quite quiet about about it. So

(26:35):
the committee reached out to him and George says, I'll
tell you what fax be the roster. Let's see who's
not on it. I'll ta if you want to play. Well.
Upon receiving the facts, Jordan said, I'll pass. They scratched
their heads and said, well, maybe maybe Jordan doesn't like
one of the coaches. Let's refax the roster. They did,
and once again Jordan says, no, I don't want to play.

(26:57):
They put two and two together. The third time they
faxed the roster to Michael Jordan, Isaiah Thomas's name was
not on it. Jordan says, okay, I'll play. So if
it can happen to Isiah Thomas, and it can happen
to Charles Barkley, and it happened to Cannis Parker once,

(27:18):
it could happen to Caitlin Clark. And by the way,
the guard position is one position on the roster. It's
actually pretty stacked, right, So it's not the craziest decision
in the world. Now people have said they've missed a
Goulden opportunity to grow the game. I believe that's true.
But they picked the roster based on who they wanted

(27:39):
to be on the team, and I think they have
a bunch of different agendas. There are a lot of
complexities about this. I'm gonna have a commentary about it
Saturday night that I think extend well beyond the court.
And if you don't know that, you don't care to
know what You've got a different agenda. Your heads in
the sand, But I'm not gonna deal with that tonight.
I'm gonna deal with objective truce. Here's the case for
those who believe Caitlin Clark should be on the team.

(28:01):
If you don't think she deserves it, Let's look at
some undeniable facts. Currently, Caitlyn Clark is thirteenth overall in
the NBA and points per game. I believe there's one
hundred and forty four players in the league. She's thirteenth.
By the way, Dinah Tarassi, who made the team, is fifteenth,
Caitlyn Clark is fourth, and assists per game. Sabrini Escu
is eighth, Kelsey Plumb is eleventh, and Jewel Lloyd is fourteenth.

(28:25):
And they're all on the list for the Olympic team.
By the way, Caitlyn Clark is second in three pointers made,
two ahead of Tarassi. Here's her first run. In her
first ten games, Caitlyn Clark scored more than one hundred
and fifty points, had more than fifty rebounds and fifty assists.

(28:47):
The only person that had ever done that in the
twenty eight year history of the WNBA was Sabrina Annascer,
Caitlin Clark's a pretty good company. Caitlyn Clark also became
the first rookie and only the fourth player ever in
the league to record thirty points, five rebounds, five assists,
three steals and three blocks in one game. Does Caitlyn
Clark move the needle? By the way, she was the

(29:10):
first player ever to fastest player ever, excuse me, to
one hundred points and fifty rebounds, the fastest twenty eight years.
And I know, and I respect Gino Orima and his
body work immensely, But to imply that she was set
up for failure? What failure we talking about here? I
already told you two weeks ago the great Hall of
Fame players in multiple storts that started off very slow,

(29:32):
from William Mainz to Ken Grifford Junior to Chandy Kofax.
I could spend three hours on it. How about Steph Curry?
You know how close they came to trade Steph currk
because I thought he was too slight. They were going
to keep Monte Ellis. So form all your opinions you
want about Kaitlyn Clark her first month of the season.
But given the stats I just shared with you, seems
like she's kind of holding her own a little bit.
Is she perfect? No, she getting her pocket picked a lot. YEP.

(29:55):
That's because they blitzer every play. They mault every play,
and if you don't like here in that ahead, you
get your chance to call it at midnight. By the way,
we talk about moving the needle this and this is
the part that seems to get rid of people just
absolutely triggered. Okay. Oh and by the way, apparently I
found out that just a few hours before Clark found

(30:15):
out last Saturday night she was going to be on
the Olympic team. She made a WNBA rookie record, tying
seven threes and scored thirty points in front of the
largest NBA crowd since two thousand and six. See in Washington, DC.
They played a game against the Chicago Sky Friday night,
and they I think they do nine or ten thousand.

(30:36):
The next night in the same arena with Caitlyn Clark there,
they do twenty thousand, three hundred and thirty three. That's
more than double the crowd the Chicago's guy drew the
night before. I don't know if anybody want to see
the Chicago's guy play. Sure, nine thousand people did, but
twenty thousand wanted to see Kaitlin Clark play. Those are
objective truths, I thought at my fields, I'm giving you

(30:56):
real numbers, just like as sure as I sit here
on the West Coast, it's eleven thirty eight pm Pacific time.
Objective truth. Oh yeah, by the way, I forgot to mention.
Caitlin Clark also became the first player in WNBA history
with two hundred points and seventy five assists in her
first twelve career games. Yes, I get it. Picking a

(31:17):
rosters subjective. It's always subjective. What do you base it on?
You base it on whatever the hell you want. Just
ask Charles Barkley, just asked Michael Jordan. Just ask the
nineteen ninety two Olympic Committee. It could happen to Barkley,
It can happen to Isaat Thomas, It can happen to
Kitlin Clark. You know what I say about that. I
think Katelyn Clark's a pretty good company. You gotta hate.

(31:39):
Hater's gonna hate. Taylor Swift said that I believe back
in twenty fifteen. So there you have it. There's both
sides of the coin. And let me close my diatribe
by saying, I'm okay with the decision. They picked the
Olympic team that they believe gives him the best chance
of the gold medal. Fair enough. And even though it's
in their mission statement to grow the game, one of

(32:00):
the coaches or somebody, I don't care, I'm not gonna
get I'm not gonna mention her name says no. No,
our goals to win gold medals. That's how we grow
the game. Really, you've won seven gold medals in a row.
Why the hell has the WNBA lost money twenty seven
straight years to the tune of ten million a year
and they're gonna lose fifty million this year. A topic
I'll get to you probably Saturday night. So there's a

(32:23):
long and the short of it coming up. We set
up the Midnight Hour. The Midnight Hour has been sensational.
We instituted it January first, as a follow up to
the game that Ethan Miller created for me and Bernie's
backyard bunking bets. People like to call in. This gives
you an opportunity, And I'm looking forward to tonight because
tonight I think we're gonna have some fireworks. But we

(32:45):
always do. But that's good. You see, as I've said,
the most boring conversations are the ones where everybody agrees.
So coming up in twenty minutes from where I sit,
it will be midnight from where I sit in Las Vegas,
literally and figuratively, from where you sit anywhere on the world,
it will also be mone that that's what we called
the midnight Hour. We'll look forward to getting your calls.
Eight seven seven nine ninety six six three six nine,

(33:07):
Ian and Brie will take your calls. Coming up. We
set those topics up, so hang right there. I'm Bernie Frattle.
Were come to you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio Tireck dot Com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio all r.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
We're back on the Bernie Fraddle Show Fox Sports Radio.
We are coming to you live from the Tireck dot
Com studios here in Las Vegas. Take you up to
two am Pacific, five am Eastern in thirteen minutes. Brie
and Ian will be taking your calls as we launch
another raucous midnight hour. You can dial them up eight

(33:45):
seven seven nine nine, six six three, six, nine eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox. From where I sit
here in Las Vegas. In twelve minutes, it will be midnight. Literally,
the clock will strike midnight. It's also figurative term. And
so wherever you may be, and we have listeners all
around the country and all around the world in our

(34:07):
six hundred ffiliates and Serious XM Channel eighty three, from
where you sit, it will be either midnight literally or
midnight figuratively. We want to hear from you. These are
our two topics tonight. First, I do want to talk
about the Bobby. If I say Bobby Hurley one more time,
I'm gonna kill myself with a chainsaw. Okay, all right,

(34:28):
let me try that again. We're gonna talk about the
Danny Hurley situation in the Lakers. Here's what I want
to hear from you. We don't need to psychoanalyze this.
What I want to hear from you is when you
heard he turned it down officially, which was Monday morning,
right around eleven am Pacific time. What was your knee
jerk reaction. Do you think the Lakers should be embarrassed?

(34:50):
Was it a bad look? And by the way, I
don't think the Lakers should be embarrassed. They shot their
shot man. They did what they think they need to do. Look,
they're not run by Jerry Buss anymore. They're run by
people who are in over their head. If you don't
believe that, well that's your business. I think they're in
over their head. That doesn't mean they're not smart people.
Rob Polink is brilliant and he was part of the
Fab five basketball team in Michigan. Dude's very he's brilliant.

(35:13):
But in this role, I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 8 (35:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
And and I'm not sure you know. Jeanie Buss she's
she's she's been, you know, quite the matriarch over the years,
but no one was doctor Jerry Bussy. It wouldn't look
like this if he was still alive. So should the
Lakers be embarrassed? I don't think so. Okay, I'll throw
them a bone there. They shot their shop. Is it
a bad look? Yeah? Yeah. They should have known they

(35:40):
weren't going to get Danny Hurley period. And and what up?
You know now you know we're back to the JJ
Reddick thing and that whole deal. All right, did but
did Danny Hurley use them. There's this narrative that you know,
he's he's got this guile about him, that he decided
to just play the Lakers as fools and uh and
leverage to go back to getting more money out of Connecticut.

(36:02):
That wasn't his intent. Might there have been an element
of that as the conversations went on, maybe, and so
what the dude looking back to back? So what? But
I truly do not believe that was the driving force.
But maybe that was your thought. How about the whole
Lebron situation? Is Lebron being there a detriment or an

(36:23):
accent if you're, you know, gonna take the Lakers job
and then you got Lebron and Brony and you know
where that whole craziness is, right? So what was your
knee jerk reaction when you heard that Danny Hurley declined
the job? Because I'd followed a lot of Twitter threads,
a lot of people thought he would take it. You
don't turn on the Lakers. You don't turn on a

(36:46):
chance to coach Lebron. Why would he follow up? Okay, no,
no he did. Danny Hurley did the right thing by
showing the Lakers respect by listening and giving them their
day in court and not just turning him down over
the phone. He did the proper thing, He did the
respectful thing. Class never goes out of style. Respect never

(37:07):
goes out of style. Danny Hurley exhibited both. Now afterwards
he got a little wordy with Dan Patrick. But you
know what, he's got a lot on his plate right now.
Give the man a get throwing a bone. Okay, so
that's the first topic. What was your reaction when you
heard that? Danny Hurley said, nope, how about now? All

(37:28):
right back to Caitlin Clark. Did the Olympic committee make
the right decision? In your view? Did they make the
right decision? A lot of very bright, influential people have
spoken on saying, boy, do they blew an opportunity to
promote the game. That may be true. That may be true.

(37:49):
It's hard for me to quantify that that. If Kaitlyn
Clark is just on the roster in the Olympics, how
that makes him sell more tickets? When she sells out
every arena she's in, TV Rangers are through the roof
because of her, and the damn Sport's still gonna lose
fifty million dollars this year, So I don't know how
you quantify that, but a lot of bright people that
I respect really believe that they blew an opportunity. On

(38:10):
the other hand, I'm not angry about the decision, even
though I'm a huge Caitlin Clark backer. I get it.
They picked their roster based on how they picked their roster,
and these things are highly subjective. I already told you
the situations involving Charles Barkley with Bobby Knight being left

(38:31):
off the team, in Isaiah Thomas being left off the
Dream Team in ninety two, I understand. I think it
might have been two thousand. I don't remember the year.
I don't really care because I don't follow the WNBA.
I think they do a nice job. It just kind
of bores me. I believe can now our name escapes me, Candice.

(38:56):
He can't helped me out, Buddy, I'm having a brain cramp.
I haven't been thank you, buddy, Candace Parker. I believe
was snubbed one year. So that's what I get for
trying to go down a road like that and make
my over, make my example. So the bottom line is
that you know, how do you feel about this when
you heard Caitlin Clark was omitted from the team. And
I don't want to use the word snub because she
is a rookie. She's brand new to the league. And

(39:18):
although she's doing a hell of a lot better than
a lot of people want to give her credit for
they're pretty stacked at the guard position on this team
and they're going to win a gold medal anyway, and
seven gold medals in the last twenty eight years hasn't
exactly grown the game, if you get my drift. So
I don't know what Caitlyn might have done different. She
might have brought more eyeballs to this said, I think NBC,

(39:38):
if they had their drothers, they'd just like to see
her face there, okay, And I know that triggers a
lot of people, And if it does, feel free to
call it in midnight, we'll discuss it. So coming up
here at seven minutes eight seven seven nine A nine
on Fox. What was your reaction when you found out
that Danny Hurley said new to the Lakers, And what
was your reaction when you found out the Olympic Committee
said new to Caitlin Clark? And again, mainly I want

(40:03):
to get your reactions and what your thoughts are, and
let's see if we can have a nice one hour
discussion as another midnight hour is upon us eight seven seven,
nine to nine on Fox. In the meantime, keep it locked,
It's the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 9 (40:19):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio. That's right,
you heard the man. Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along.
We are company lion for me tyreck dot Com studios
here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tireck dot Com.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
We'll help you get there. An un matched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road asra protection of over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tyreck dot com the way tire buying should be.
All right, Callers are lining up. Do you think that
the Caitlin Clark decision to be left off the Olympic
team was the right one by the committee? Did they
get this right? And what were your thoughts when you

(40:55):
found out that Danny Hurley was declining the Lakers job.
I'm in submit that.

Speaker 6 (41:00):
Hour right now, a midnight hour.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Eight seven seven on Fox eight seven seven, nine, ninety
six six three sixty nine. Step up, be somebody, be
the life of the party. We begin with Jim in Massachusetts,
top of the line the night, Jim, how are.

Speaker 10 (41:22):
You pretty good?

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Vernie?

Speaker 11 (41:24):
Hey? Listen, like I told you before thirty five years
a rep, you know, high school, Division three college.

Speaker 12 (41:29):
I would have.

Speaker 11 (41:30):
Loved to have been on that floor when when Caitlin took
that hot foul. I would have ran her on the
first tee. You don't have to give someone to tease,
just the first t if you thought it was bad enough,
dick gone and when the other girls stood up the chair.
Isn't unsportsman like that?

Speaker 2 (41:45):
I know, I got you pal that it look we
all know about all but my dad. I appreciate your perspectives, Jim.
You always have a lot of depth. I got so
many calls to that. I just want your thoughts on
the committee. Did they make the right decision?

Speaker 13 (42:00):
Of course not, of course not.

Speaker 11 (42:02):
It's like Barkley says, it's about talent on that level.
It's about talent. Of course, you've gotta have her on
the team. What just because Tarassi's been on Mere like
for Emma, you're gonna put.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Her on her status exactly.

Speaker 11 (42:15):
Her stat's better than all of them other people's, you know, and.

Speaker 13 (42:19):
You just can't do that.

Speaker 11 (42:20):
What about all those people around the world that wanted
to see Caleb Clark play, figuring she was coming to France.
Now she's not coming. I mean, she's a world renowned
figure out. It's just, you know, it's all petty. It's
all about this is our league, you know, whether you're
gay or not, just the way we want it is
the way it's always always going to be.

Speaker 8 (42:40):
But that's why you're missing.

Speaker 11 (42:42):
Every year you're you know, ten million in the hall.

Speaker 10 (42:45):
You know, it's about showcasing.

Speaker 11 (42:49):
Talent. Talent has to ride green rises to the top.
Talent rises to the top. And you know what, God
bless her. She's taken the high road. But after this year,
she is gonna burn every record that was and everything
like that, and they're all gonna look foolish.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
Jim quickly, I always appreciate your candor. Quickly, What was
your thoughts when Danny Hurley declined the Lakers.

Speaker 11 (43:13):
He was never going there?

Speaker 2 (43:15):
Exactly? No one could have been more emphatic on show.

Speaker 11 (43:19):
All right, go to that clown show. You know, we
gotta we gotta pick Bronnie. Bronnie couldn't even make the
Connecticut team.

Speaker 2 (43:27):
We're on the same page, Jim. I really appreciate your calls. Man,
all it's not just say we agree, agree, but you're
prepared and you bring receipts. Uh. Terry in Colorado, Welcome
to the Bernie Frawdles Show. What do you got for tonight? Well?

Speaker 10 (43:39):
Hello, how are you doing?

Speaker 2 (43:41):
Fine? How are you? Man? Hello? You're on here?

Speaker 14 (43:44):
Tell you what?

Speaker 2 (43:45):
Hello? You're on the air, Terry, go ahead, pal, Hello, Terry,
can you hear you do? We have an issue with
Terry Ian? Hello, Terry, Terry, Terry, Terry Ian. Put Terry
on hold. See what's going on here? Because I want
to give him his time on the air. But I
don't know what happened there. I'm not that smart. Uh,

(44:06):
Poppy and san Diego, what's happened to Poppy?

Speaker 13 (44:09):
Hey, it's a great, beautiful day.

Speaker 15 (44:11):
You know the Mavericks one of the best revs. Got
Foster and Game four made that bling, bling bling that money.
You know, I love that game. Scott Foster, he's amazing.
Best rest you know.

Speaker 11 (44:21):
I'm right here, good Bernie.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
And you good Man. So let's talk about Caitlin Clark
and let's talk about Danny Eery. What do you got
for us. I want to get to all the callers tonight.

Speaker 15 (44:30):
Yes, Well on Danny, I was so happy. I was like,
we predicted her right here.

Speaker 11 (44:33):
I predicted him in the midnight hour.

Speaker 15 (44:35):
I know, Dan, Dan, he was bluffy, you know, like
when you play poker.

Speaker 11 (44:39):
He was bluffing.

Speaker 13 (44:40):
It was all the show.

Speaker 15 (44:40):
And nobody wants to go there with the Lakers like
Lebron too much diva. Nobody wants to be how you say.

Speaker 11 (44:46):
Bernie's that circle.

Speaker 15 (44:47):
It's like it's toxic, bad energy. We don't want that
onto Clayton Clark. You know, I was really disappointed the
bad news that she didn't make the team. But I'm
like every superstar, like even uh you know my I
quote Jordan and he said earlier she had his obstacles
when he was a rookie and all this thing, and
that's the journey that he's gonna she's going through and

(45:08):
she's getting a lot of bad publicity and stuff.

Speaker 2 (45:10):
So it's the right decision to leave around the off
the team or should she have been named the team?

Speaker 15 (45:16):
No, it was horrible, Bernie, it was horrible. They made
a bad decision. But where a bad news, there comes
good news, and it saves the best for that. But
this is what I think. It's good that she's not
going to the Olympics. And let me tell you what,
because I heard over there in France the US say,
you know it's going to be in France, the athlete
they're sleeping on little cardboard boxes.

Speaker 11 (45:33):
Bernie and then Clark.

Speaker 15 (45:34):
She's gonna be in a machine with a nice comfty
bed and she's gonna be watching for she doesn't need
to sleep in a little car and box like the homeless. O.

Speaker 13 (45:42):
Good, that's not there, all right, Poppy.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
I always appreciate your energy.

Speaker 13 (45:47):
Man.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
You enjoy your weekend, Poppy. Poppy's a good egg man.
I like Poppy. I like all the callers, but Poppy
is a good egg. All right, Terry, let's hope we
got our phone foibles worked out. Can you hear me, Terry?
Terry in Colorado?

Speaker 10 (46:00):
Hello, can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (46:01):
I can hear you? Just find Terry? Can you hear me?

Speaker 10 (46:04):
I tell you what? Yes, you know, Kaitlin Clark, you
know it's interesting. No waiting four years? You know it'd
be great, pr But no, they don't need her. She
barely play any minutes. But it'd be great pr okay.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
So the bottom line, if you believe the bottom line, Terry,
is you feel that the Olympic Committee coaching staff made
the right decision in omitting her fair I think all good?
You know, how good? What were your thoughts, Terry, when
you found out that did Danny Hurley said no to
the Lakers?

Speaker 16 (46:39):
Oh?

Speaker 10 (46:39):
Wow, you know, I'd like to say something also, you know,
as far as the ok playing for the Olympics. Uh,
you know, I'm a huge Nuggets fan. You know, you
playing for the you know, national team. I'm going they
got tired at the end. Okay, all right, how about

(47:01):
you know between him and a certain other big two,
I'm going, oh damn, you know, I hope they don't
play for the but they will. They probably will, I know,
yokid just saying, oh, he's undecided, you know, I know,
you know.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
All right? Thanks for the call, Terry, don't be a stranger.
You're always welcome on the midnight Hour, Benjamin in Arizona.
Your thoughts on the topics tonight? Do we have Benjamin ki? Hi, Benjamin,
you're on the air. What are your thoughts tonight on
whether or not Caitlin Clark being left off the Olympic

(47:39):
team was the right decision and Danny Hurley rejecting the Lakers,
My thought.

Speaker 12 (47:44):
Is that they should not have left Brough off the team.
They're cutting off their nose despite their face. If you
were about the money and you put that girl on TV,
the money is all about the money. This is going
to grow the game. If you're talking about growing the game,
are you there? And with Daniel with the early situation,

(48:08):
he was never gonna leave.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Yeah, we're an agreement on that, all.

Speaker 12 (48:13):
Right, Boddy. There's a name everybody should be bringing up
and is Mark Jackson.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
Oh, I agree with that. I don't know what the
dealer is on that listen Saturday night. I'll bring that
up with Mark Madina. I I'm hearing you. I hear you, Benjamin.
That's a good call. You got to both points quick
and you made your points and I appreciate that. I'm
just trying to get to everybody tonight. Don't be a stranger. Emmett,
How are you? Emmett? What's going on?

Speaker 14 (48:36):
Man?

Speaker 2 (48:38):
Okay, let's move along. Tony in Miami becoming a regular Tony?
What are your thoughts to that on these two topics?

Speaker 17 (48:46):
Not too much on Caitlin, Bernie, but I will tell
you I'm gonna stick with my guns because I do
not watch the w NBA, So I don't.

Speaker 11 (48:55):
Want to talk about what I don't know, but I.

Speaker 17 (48:58):
Would say I wish this treatment a banker would trickle
over into the NBA. I think it's gonna find Tuner
to be sharper and a much better player, and eventually
get a guy like me who waters and mes it
tells people to get off his lawn to turn on
the TV or rests girl. And I think it'll be

(49:18):
good in the in the long run.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
So you in long run, whether or not you're an
NBA fan, w NBA fan or not, you believe the
committee made a mistake and it's a missed opportunity leaving
Caitlyn off the team.

Speaker 17 (49:30):
Probably yeah, probably like she she belongs.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
Okay, you got you real quickly, Tony, my man, Danny
Hurley says no to the Lakers. Your thoughts on that, Bernie.

Speaker 17 (49:41):
It's exactly where what he needed to do and where
he needs to be.

Speaker 13 (49:45):
I believe that.

Speaker 17 (49:47):
The Lakers draft Brownie James soon him might have impressed
the team. Aaron when he's in a FORMIX it's times
in the post of Jerry West and what.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
All right? Good stuff as always Tony hold it down
there in Miami. We are getting to everybody. Eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three six nine. No one
gets shut out. Did the committee made the right decision
by leaving Kitlin off the team? Good mix of call
so far and your thoughts on Danny Hurley so far.
Nobody think Hurley should have taken the job, but we
talked about this last week. Emmett is up next, followed

(50:23):
by Lynn in Oceanside and Hinckley in Texas. Hang right there, nobody,
go away. We're getting to all of you. I'm Bernie Frattlewick,
coming to your line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports
Radio tarat dot Com studios. You're listening to the Bernie
frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back on
the Bernie fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come to you
live from the Tarak dot Com studios here in Las Vegas.

(50:46):
The midnight hour keeps s rolling right along eight seven,
seven nine to nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six six three six nine. You're all getting in.
Did the Olympic Committee make the right decision omitting Caitlin Clark.
What were your thought when you found out that Danny
Hurley said new to the Lakers, not up in here? Okay,
we got amit back. What's up tonight, buddy, Bernie, Frida,

(51:09):
what's going on? How you doing living the dream? My man?
So what are your thoughts on these topics?

Speaker 18 (51:15):
All right?

Speaker 19 (51:15):
So first off starts Kitlin Clark. I mean, this is
like a good decision, and like the reason why is
the people who like are in charge of this, They
basically said it's because she's young, she's a rookie. So
like I get Kitlin Clark as a generational talent, you know,
for the WNBA.

Speaker 11 (51:30):
I get all that.

Speaker 19 (51:31):
I'm a huge Kitlin Clark supporter, as you know. But
I think that this is one of those things where
it's like you can't be making special, special like accommodations
in the situation like this, because then people are gonna
want to do the same exact thing, and like it's
just gonna create to a whole thing.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
And also, I think that's a very measured take. I
think that's a very calm, collective take Emmitt, thank you, Bernie,
thank you.

Speaker 19 (51:56):
The other thing, too, is like it's kind of a
blessing in disgut. She hasn't had a really a break
since you know, September, and she's gonna get a two
week break for the for the Olympics, so and she's
gonna come back rerest in like hopefully pop off.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
Yep. But and by the way, she knows how to
lift weights and get stronger, just like Steph Curry did.
All right, Danny Hurtley, your thoughts there.

Speaker 19 (52:17):
I think that, like, yeah, you're right, he wasn't gonna
take this job. But at the same time, it's kind
of a bearra thing for the Lakers do because I mean,
Monty Williams was getting paid higher than they offered Danny Hurley.
And I mean it's just a smart move for Danny
because why would you take a job and you know,
the Lakers or it's just kind of a bleach o
of an organization first of all, and then second of

(52:38):
all that California.

Speaker 11 (52:39):
Taxes and all that.

Speaker 2 (52:40):
I mean, just I don't think haything to do with money.
You're not wrong, Ethan, but the Texas are connected aren't
great either. But the thing is check that I'm sorry,
dam my bad, I've been drinking. I promise, go ahead,
you got the last word real quickly.

Speaker 19 (52:56):
Yeah, I mean it's right, but I mean the third,
the three back to championships like that, he has a
chance of going for this year with the Yukon is
definitely a lot better, absolutely with the Lakers. So he's
a smart man for taking it. I think you like
you're saying, and Poppy was saying he was bluffing.

Speaker 2 (53:11):
Thanks for the call, Bernie, all right, good good stuff
em And I think the bottom line is he likes
where he's at. He's on top of the world. He's
got plenty of money. He's not a money based decision.
I don't care what the Lakers would have offered him.
He wasn't gonna take the job. He's got unfinished business.
He doesn't want to leave his family and go to
la It's a foreign country to him. H Lynn in
Ocean Side, Lynn or you Ben Man? The midnight hour

(53:33):
is just not the same without Lynn from Ocean Side.
Where you been man?

Speaker 13 (53:38):
Bernie, I got a new nickname for you. You're missed
a genuine because your voice is awesome. When I hear you,
it's like you're a real man. I'm like, you're like
a guy I could sit down and talk to four hours,
probably because you're just so sincere. Man.

Speaker 2 (53:51):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 8 (53:52):
Pal.

Speaker 2 (53:53):
Hey, you know, let's talk about the work. Uh, go ahead,
I'm saying, go go ahead, you got the floor. My man,
pick which everyone want?

Speaker 12 (54:01):
No?

Speaker 13 (54:02):
Oh no, I said him. Out here working these weird hours, Bernie,
sometime I'd be snoring, but I stay up trying to
listen to you. This is like my lunch break from
twelve to about one.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
Right, Well, we missed you the last couple three weeks, Lennai.
I figured, you know you got busy man. But let's
start with Caitlin Clark. Did the committee make the right
decision in what they did?

Speaker 13 (54:25):
Absolutely they made a wrong decision because you always go
with the best. And I remember when they took Christian
Laden over Shack. I was pissed. Shack was a professional,
he was good, he was ready to go. So I
don't want to hear all that stuff. Caitlin Clark should
be on there because they can pick whoever they want,
and you always go with the best. This woman might

(54:45):
drop seven or eight threes in the game that you're struggling,
and then you'd be glad you had her come along.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Fair enough, I mean, the idea behind the you know this,
this whole ordeal with the men that hours to get
varying opinions from various people around the country. What were
your thoughts you're there in southern California, Lynn, and what
are your thoughts on Danny Hurley, you know, declining the Lakers.

Speaker 13 (55:11):
I had heard because I'm a longtime Laker fan, you know,
I watched them with my dad and the wil Chamm
and Jerry West days, which brings up another topic. You'll
get to it another time with his on time to death.
But uh, you know what, he knew he couldn't win
right now with the Lakers, So why come over here
with all that heartagged? And I read something about wife

(55:34):
he probably wasn't going to be Yeah, and wife he
probably wasn't going to be on board with it. So
what's you going to break all that up for? You
go back, get your five six million with Yukon and
probably three pete and be very happy. So why come
to Hollywood for the drama?

Speaker 2 (55:50):
Yeah? I agree, I agree with you. I mean, at
the end of the day, people have to live their lives,
and even if you would have wanted the job, it's
just such a culture going from college to the NBA,
and then of course going from where he lives in
the East Coast to Los Angeles. Anything else, Forest tonight? Lynn?

Speaker 13 (56:09):
All Right, Berne, you know, I can't stand the fact
that Boston probably get another title because I'm a Laker guy.
But that's the way the cookie crumbled. But I can't
stand Mark Cuban either, because he kept up from getting
Chris Paul. So that's what he gets on top of that.

Speaker 2 (56:26):
All Right, you hold it down there in ocean side, Lynn,
and hopefully hear from you next week. Thanks. Bud Hinkley
in Texas. Love that name, Hinckley. Is that your real name, man, Yes,
that is my real name. Well, I liked I like
that name. I liked leaves and half of maliffiluis sound.

Speaker 4 (56:40):
You know.

Speaker 2 (56:41):
My name is Bernie Fratto. Probably for the first twelve
years of my life I hated it, but I'm okay
with it. Now. What do you got for us, Tonight, Hinckley?

Speaker 8 (56:49):
I think I think the entire Caitlin Clark bias is
just stupid. It's just based off of pure jealousy and
that is just not good reason to start an entire thing.
And I heard a fact on the Jason Smith Show.
Actually three and the last four times the Olympic team

(57:10):
has taken rookies, and so I think their entire entire
argument for not taking Kitlin Clark. I mean, they're not
going to say, oh, we don't want to take Kitlin
Clark because of the media backlash. They're going to say, oh,
we can't take Kitlin Clark because she's young. It's just
like young players all the other times. What's that about?

Speaker 2 (57:29):
Well, that's fair, Okay. I listen, there are varying angles
by which to approach this, and I think Ankle, you
touched on something that I alluded to at the top
of the show, and that is they kind of make
it up as they go along. They just need to
shut up with their roster together, then go win another
gold medal and not grow the game. Seven gold medals
didn't grow the game. What's the eighth one going to do? All?

Speaker 17 (57:50):
Right?

Speaker 2 (57:51):
Thoughts on Danny Hurley Hinkley, Oh, I think.

Speaker 8 (57:55):
All the reasons people have said for him not taking
the job are good. I think if I was in issues,
I think the main reason I wouldn't take the Lakers
job is two managent one Lebon is going to be
a pain in the neck to coach. And number two,
I don't think I particularly want to uproot my whole
family and move them across the country to coach a

(58:17):
job that I'm not.

Speaker 15 (58:18):
Going to enjoy.

Speaker 2 (58:21):
That's an outstanding call, Hinckley, you are always welcome here.
Friday nights at midnight Pacific time on The Bernie Frattle Show.
Two very measured responses based on personal opinion, but also
relevant facts, specific facts. And I think that you know
you you justified your points with very relevant specifics Angeline Kansas,

(58:43):
you've dialed in before. What you got for us tonight?

Speaker 13 (58:45):
Hey, how's it going.

Speaker 11 (58:47):
My first thing on on Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 16 (58:51):
Is that you know, this is purely straight from a
from a ratings standpoint, I guess, and a profitability measurement,
I guess. But if you're trying to grow the you know,
women's basketball to be more mainstream than it currently is,
I think that you need to have you know the
current stars, regardless you know of how old they are
or of you know, what they've quote unquote proven.

Speaker 3 (59:13):
So to speak.

Speaker 16 (59:14):
If you're trying to grow that brand to be, you know,
the same as the NBA.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
Or so, okay, so you're here, you're okay with the decision.
Basically leave her off.

Speaker 16 (59:23):
No, sorry, no, I think you know, if you're trying
to grow the game, you want to have the biggest
stars you have.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Okay, hold that thought because it raises an esoteric point
that require some context. I think Caitlin Clark's a star.
I just I don't heard my commentary. She's only setting
three rookie records. What's the bottom line. They don't think
she's a star. You see what I'm saying. She's putting
butts in seats, she's putting eyeballs on TV, she's making

(59:51):
the league money and they're still going to lose money.
See therein lies the subtext and the context. Andrew, they
don't think she's a star. As matter of fact, all
they do is, you know, is junk talker. So anyway,
I just wanted to get that in there. Go ahead.

Speaker 16 (01:00:06):
I understand that, but like maybe more from a from
a from a larger standpoint, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
From a marketing standpoint.

Speaker 16 (01:00:12):
Yes, yes, that's more of more or less where I'm
getting at. And from a marketing standpoint, I don't think
they they got it right. But you know, from from
more of a from more of a you know, a
success standpoint of like, you know, what they think they're
going to have success with in the Olympics this summer.
I think they got it right, but more from a
marketing standpoint and you know, getting the getting you know,

(01:00:34):
fans to tune in.

Speaker 12 (01:00:36):
Maybe not as much, you know, just in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
How they could put Taylor Swift on that team and
give her thirty minutes if they're going to win the
gold all right, real quickly and Danny Hurley Andrew make
go ahead.

Speaker 16 (01:00:49):
Yeah, absolutely so. I think Danny Hurley I was hoping,
you know, he would take the Lakers job because I'm
a fan of a Big East basketball team who's been
parse a agenda. Yeah, you know, so jealous, you know,
personally and jealously.

Speaker 13 (01:01:04):
I was hoping he would take.

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
It, but I didn't think he would.

Speaker 16 (01:01:08):
He's got a really good opportunity at Yukon to you know,
make history doing three in a row. And also, you know,
you don't want to deal with, you know, an agent
Lebron and you know just kind of the drama that
comes with La and you know, even in the future
if he wants to go to the NBA route, you know,
I mean the Knicks and the Nets and the Sixers.

(01:01:30):
Those jobs turn over all the time, so I mean
he can just wait out for one of those.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
That's right. Let's see three. All right, good stuff, Andrew.
I'm sure we'll hear from me again next week. We're
gonna get to all of you. Crag in Tennessee, Steven
and Kansas City, Art and Philly Peter in Ottawa. You
are up next. You hang right there at Donk corningwhere
we got to get to our guy. We gotta get
to our guy. Kevin Figures with the latest.

Speaker 6 (01:01:57):
All right, Bernie. The Dallas Mavericks have a pulse.

Speaker 7 (01:01:59):
They pick up a They dominated one twenty two to
eighty four win over the Celtics in Game four of
the NBA Finals on Friday night. They struggled defensively in
the first three games, but on Friday night, the Maps
held Boston to just thirty six percent shooting, and they
made over fifty percent of their shots from the field.
Boston will have another chance to close out the series
with a home victory in.

Speaker 6 (01:02:18):
Game five on Monday and night.

Speaker 7 (01:02:20):
And major League Baseball, the Dodgers came back from a
three to nothing deficit to defeat the Royals four to three.
Arizona got home runs from Jock Peterson and Juhenio Suarez
in a seven to one win over the White Sox.
Marcelo's doing another home run for the Braves. They defeated
Tampa Bay seven to three. Houston shout out Detroit for
nothing and waved former Al MVP Jose Abray you. Earlier
in the day, the Twins defeated Oakland and extras wins

(01:02:42):
for the Reds, Mets and the Yankees, who dominated the
Red Sox eight to one. And golf second round at
the US Open, Louvic o'bert has a one stroke lead
over three others. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson missed the
cut back to Berdie Freddo All right.

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Thanks, Kevin. The man of many talents goes by many names.
Now include Daddy in that Moniker. Back out to the
phone lines, we are joined by Art in Philadelphia. Good evening,
Art or good morning, depending on your perspective. What do
you got for us tonight?

Speaker 13 (01:03:11):
Good morning?

Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Sorry?

Speaker 15 (01:03:12):
As far as the taking Clark situations offensively, she's great.

Speaker 20 (01:03:18):
But I mean.

Speaker 12 (01:03:19):
You chuck her toneovers.

Speaker 13 (01:03:21):
She's got close to fifty turnovers.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Yeah, I know that's the ward on Lincoln's nose.

Speaker 21 (01:03:25):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
They're blitzing on every place. So the bottom line is
I enjoy your calls are yes or no? Did they
make the right decision? I'm cool with the decision. What
are your thoughts.

Speaker 13 (01:03:34):
They make the right decision? First, Well, I mean she's
not even here for here yet and she's the face
of the w n B A what if that meets
to leslie to burn those people. I mean, she's got
on her strips.

Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
They had their day in court.

Speaker 11 (01:03:49):
In a different error.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
We're in a different aera right now. The market's always
going to decide the market.

Speaker 13 (01:03:55):
I mean, she's got to pull a couple a little bit.

Speaker 12 (01:03:59):
I mean she's too there she does.

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Okay, you bring up some good points. That's the road
I can't go down tonight. But okay, I respect your
opinion that think of committee made the right decision. I'm
okay with that. Danny Hurley Art, what were your thinking?

Speaker 13 (01:04:14):
Well, when he caught the lakes, you have to touch
him with Lebron James.

Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
Yeah, you're lucky with that. You're one million percent correct. Yeah.

Speaker 13 (01:04:24):
I mean, first of all, any coach in college. Why
would you want to go into the Pros on a
different subject? Nick Saban, try that in the post. How
did that work?

Speaker 14 (01:04:36):
Hasn't worked too well?

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Well, yes and no he didn't get his quarterback. But
your points duly noted. See Art. That's the key thing here.
The pros have bought players colleges about coaches real quickly, Art,
I want to get to the other callers.

Speaker 22 (01:04:50):
Anything else, I'm fine.

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
So you have great callege, always aret, always measured, always intelligent,
Craig and Tennessee, you're up next to my friend. What
do you got for us tonight?

Speaker 22 (01:05:00):
Well, Bernie, I want to remind you that the general
cut John Stockton.

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Also, I should have mentioned that. I should have mentioned
that Bobby Night kept.

Speaker 22 (01:05:08):
Yeah, they kept Jeff Turner, who you know was a
decent player, but you know they played for the Nets.

Speaker 13 (01:05:15):
But I'm with you, I don't think.

Speaker 22 (01:05:17):
It matters greatly because she's going to be the star
of the twenty twenty eight Olympics in La Okay, Caitlin Clark.
Maybe Angel will be on there too, and some of
the old ladies will be gone. As far as for Hurley,
one of your other callers, that he's going to coach
somewhere between Philly and Boston.

Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
Great, excellent, excellent call. Craig, all right, spot on it.

Speaker 23 (01:05:40):
I like it.

Speaker 22 (01:05:41):
You're a great handicapper.

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
I love you man. Well, thanks, appreciate that, Craig. Don't
be a stranger. We do this every Friday night and
at midnight. Specific The reason I complimented Craig is because
he cut through the crap. Okay, Bobby Harley likes living
in the East, so when he does take it in
be a job someday, that's where it's going to be.
And as far as Caitlin Clark, I think he touched

(01:06:02):
on the pragmatism of the decision. So you know that
he's not up in his feels on this. He's just
kind of telling it like it is. Stephen in Kansas City,
welcome back in How are you.

Speaker 14 (01:06:15):
Hey, Bernie enjoying the show. I think it's very important
to make the to give the environment that Caitlin Clark
is playing in. Okay, she is underpaid really two million
dollar gate per per game, and Nike is really underpaying

(01:06:35):
her at this point with the three years or four years.

Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
I don't disagree with that. Hold that thought, hold that
thought I said the same thing when Tiger Witz got
sixty million in nineteen ninety seven. I said he's going
to make them billions and they tore up that contract.
What I really want to focus on, because we'll get
to some of these subjects throughout the summer. Did the
committee make the right decision? That's what I really want
to focus on, Stephen.

Speaker 14 (01:06:56):
That's what That's what I'm trying to get at the
committee is it's a part of this environment that is
subsidized by the NDA. They like the way things are
without Caitlin Clark. They they are they are losing money
and they're fine with that because they have a guarantee.
They're not convinced that this is going to be a
rising tide that that lifts all boats. They promoted women

(01:07:20):
that are injured and can't even play over Kayln Caylen
still make playing the Olympics.

Speaker 11 (01:07:26):
She's not she's not excluded.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
I don't think they're going to do that. I think
there'd be so much blowback, which is what they're worried about,
because I'm being told now that the players on their
roster don't want her. H But listen, you bring up
you bring up some intelligent points because I want to
get to all the callers tonight. Stephen, your thoughts on
Danny Hurley, Well, I I don't.

Speaker 14 (01:07:47):
Like Yukon, so I hope I would hope to take
the light justice.

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
But when no.

Speaker 14 (01:07:54):
With with with with Caitlin, is that an elder like
Diana Tazi or somebody who has her career is over
needs to stand up and say that this economic model
has got to be changed. This is a poisonous environment
we're in right now with this w NBA where they're
subsidized by the NBA. You cannot progrants with this. You're

(01:08:17):
be losing money.

Speaker 17 (01:08:18):
All your life.

Speaker 13 (01:08:19):
That's that's my opinion.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
That's exactly what's going to continue. People might not like
hearing that, Well, don't tell me, show me all right,
good stuff, Steve, appreciate you man. Peter in Ottawa, good evening.
Are you going, sir? How are you doing? Sir?

Speaker 13 (01:08:35):
I do.

Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
What do you got tonight?

Speaker 14 (01:08:39):
Ollie?

Speaker 12 (01:08:39):
I was wondering, Ky, I know I love your brand
new fuel.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
But that's Saturday night. Yeah yeah, brand new fool Yeah, yes, I.

Speaker 12 (01:08:47):
Love it every morning.

Speaker 17 (01:08:48):
But you always do that taco bug story.

Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
Well, people have asked me to repeat stories. I've actually
done that two or three times over seven months period
because people have asked for it. People have asked for it.
All right, listen, let's get back on point. I got
other calls here, my man. What do you got for
Caitlin Clark?

Speaker 13 (01:09:04):
You don't want negative?

Speaker 11 (01:09:05):
Yes?

Speaker 17 (01:09:06):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
I don't know what the hell that was all about?
Are you kidding me? Peter and our neighbor to the north,
waits online to say he loves my brand new fuel,
which is called brand new fool. You'll hear it on
Saturday night. I don't like negative. What if I've said
it once, I've said it a thousand times. The most
boring conversations are when people disagree. He asked me why

(01:09:31):
I repeat the Taco bell story, which I plead guilty
to because people have asked for it, That's why. And
if they ask for it again in three months, I
gave it to him again. Of three months, I think.
Michael Maletta, one of our listeners, says, man, I love
that story. So there you have it. Maybe you can
try it next time. Peter Connie in South Dakota, thanks
to your patients hanging on tonight.

Speaker 23 (01:09:51):
Hi there, Hello, I agree with you, Caitlan should have
been on the.

Speaker 15 (01:09:59):
They grew jump.

Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
Well, just to set the record straight, Connie, I'm okay
with the decision either way. But I did give a
lot of very pertinent, specific statistics that are objective truths
that could have certainly made the case for her to
be on the team. But continue on. So you don't
think the committee made the right decision. They screwed up, correct, Connie,
they screwed up. What do you feel? Go ahead, Connie,

(01:10:24):
go ahead.

Speaker 23 (01:10:25):
Not only that, but has anybody checked into the the
records on these people on the let me roster when
they were back when they were twenty two years old?

Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
I'm not sure if I understand your question the question, Connie,
any thoughts on Danny Hurley?

Speaker 23 (01:10:45):
Yeah, he did the right thing.

Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
He did the right thing. But how did you feel
when you heard it? You said, okay, this is the
right thing or what was your need? Your reaction if
you had one?

Speaker 15 (01:10:57):
I said, oh good, all right, Well, Connie.

Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
I appreciate you checking in tonight from the great state
of South Dakota. And don't be a stranger. Ben in Australia.
I love it what we get calls as far away
as Australia, which we've had before. What part of Australia
are you in today, Ben.

Speaker 20 (01:11:14):
Hey, you get from Melbourne.

Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
Melbourne, very nice, good to hear from you. So what
have you got for us on these on these subjects.

Speaker 20 (01:11:23):
With Kaitlin Cross, she's not the best person to the tame.
It's a meritocracy. Yeah, it's just better paper for it
than why why hand it? Why just hand someone because
they were names?

Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
Okay, I respect that. I respect that, and and I
made a case that it's not just a name. She's
got better statistics people are given her credit for. But
I think your point has merit. It's perceived as someone
who's brand new to the league, you know, wet behind
the ears, and there are other players maybe ahead of
her that should be there. So uh, very.

Speaker 20 (01:12:00):
Twenty two, he's going to have it. He's got another
four years to build up a resume and actually go
compete for the spot in four years time.

Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Okay, again, very measured response. I'm done with it. Do
you have any thoughts on Danny Hurley not taking the
Lakers job?

Speaker 11 (01:12:18):
Man, I don't think.

Speaker 20 (01:12:21):
Lebron wants to be coached, and that's what Lebron, that's
pretty that's his way. So who wants to go into
a role where you look at the recent history of
the Lakers is a coach killer.

Speaker 12 (01:12:33):
So well, I go there.

Speaker 20 (01:12:35):
When you've got a good thing going at Yukon, you've
got quite two national titles, build and list their way.
That the way that all is now. He can raise money,
he can pay plays, AND's been said before on Fox.
He can sit there and leverage that off and say
I gave up coaching the Lakers to come here to

(01:12:56):
coach you as a recruiting tool. It's going to well
for him.

Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
Ben, I enjoyed that. Don't be a stranger.

Speaker 11 (01:13:04):
We do this.

Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
What time is it in Australia. I'm here on a Saturday,
five pm on a Saturday night. All right, nicely done, Ben,
Let's hear from you again. As Billy Joe would say,
it's five o'clock on a Saturday. And the regular crowd
shuffles in eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six six three
six nine, last chance to get in. We wrap it
up on the Bernie Frattle Show with respect to the

(01:13:28):
midnight hour topics Caitlin Clark, Danny Hurley and we get
the crew in on this too, and see what they
gotta say. I'm Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to you line
from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, Tireck dot Com Studios.
Keep it locked you listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Back on the Bernie Frattle Show
as we wrap up the midnight hour, Caitlin Clark, did

(01:13:50):
the committee make the right decision? And Danny Hurley, what
were your thoughts when you found out he declined the Lakers?
David Phoenix, all right, Dave, Dave? Do we have Dave
in Phoenix? Do we have David Phoenix? Ian? Do we
have David Phoenix? Okay? I think, uh, maybe not. Let's

(01:14:16):
go to Grant in Seattle. Do we have Grant in
Seattle with us? Yes?

Speaker 13 (01:14:21):
How you guys doing all right?

Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
Grant? Thanks for jumping in to night. What do you
got for us?

Speaker 23 (01:14:25):
Uh?

Speaker 21 (01:14:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 18 (01:14:26):
So with the Kais and Clark thing, I equated to
you know, obviously Christis Ladner with the Dream Team, Like sure,
he's a twelveth man on the bench, and you put
King Clark as a twelfth person on the bench. I
mean he'll we yell and to get her in the
game over, you know, Larry Bird or Magic Johnson just

(01:14:49):
like it's not the case, like she's not as good
a player as you know, the people in front of her,
So it's more.

Speaker 13 (01:14:57):
Of a distraction than an attraction.

Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Okay, I think that's fair. I accept that. I accept that.
What are your thoughts on Danny Hurley?

Speaker 8 (01:15:07):
Uh?

Speaker 18 (01:15:08):
Yeah, I assumed you just you know, you liked the
idea of going to la and you know, the bigger But.

Speaker 11 (01:15:17):
I don't think he was really.

Speaker 13 (01:15:21):
Into it.

Speaker 18 (01:15:22):
It's more of it like, Hey, if you have a
good thing and you're you know, you're happy and you're doing.

Speaker 11 (01:15:27):
Good stuff, like just stick.

Speaker 18 (01:15:29):
With that and like just keep it there and like,
you know, don't move everywhere else.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
All right, fair enough, thanks for checking in the night, Grant. Uh, Dave,
you're up next? How are you, Dave?

Speaker 11 (01:15:44):
Hi?

Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
Bernie, what's up? Man?

Speaker 13 (01:15:46):
All right?

Speaker 24 (01:15:47):
So in Caitlin Park, there are many things that can
be true, even if they contradict each other somewhat. My
point is that she probably should not be in the
Olympics because we're shooting for percentage has been quite low,
the turnovers have been quite high. The thirty point game
was against the winless Washington Mystics.

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Okay, you're basically it on statistics, she should be there.
I respect the fact that you're basically seeing they made
the right decision. Did you hear my opening monologue by
any chance and the three rookie records?

Speaker 12 (01:16:18):
I did?

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Yeah? Okay, so go ahead continue on, David.

Speaker 11 (01:16:21):
All right.

Speaker 24 (01:16:22):
I also think two points, which again contradict each other.

Speaker 11 (01:16:26):
One.

Speaker 24 (01:16:27):
Mike Freeman had a great column in USA Today the
other day pointing out that a lot of people who
pretend to be big fans of Caitlin Clark really don't
care about her, but they are using her to further
their political agenda, which unfortunately has some racism to it.
We're going to be honest. But on the other hand,
there are a lot of people on the other side

(01:16:48):
who have demigrated her every step of the way. They
denigrated her scoring record, taking an under talented Iowa team
to two consecutive title games. Everything she does, they're negative
about it. So basically what we have, unfortunately is bigotry
from both sides.

Speaker 10 (01:17:05):
It's not good.

Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
All right. On the Danny Hurley situation, what were your
thoughts when he turned the job.

Speaker 24 (01:17:10):
Down, Well, you got to go for a three pay
that people have pointed out only he Sayla and the
entire history I believe of the NCAA tournament, which started
in nineteen thirty nine, only UCLA has done a three
paint and they're one tournament away. So you gotta stay
and go for it and go to the NBA later.

Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Maybe all right, sounds good, Dave, we'll check it in
next week.

Speaker 11 (01:17:31):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Dave's a former Michigan guy, and we've crossed past I
think in Michigan when I was on radio there. Let's
get the crew in ever so quickly, Bri. Let's start
with you, did Caitlin Clark? Did they make the right
decision in the Olympic team?

Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 25 (01:17:46):
I mean I think you know, I see both sides too.
I mean you could see it from like ratings and
like Jersey sales and and you know, just the whole
media side. But I can see the veterans being like, yeah,
we don't want to include her. She she hasn't really
earned her stripes yet.

Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
And you and you live in Los Angeles, Brie, And
so what were your thoughts when you heard that Danny
Hurley was turning down the job.

Speaker 25 (01:18:11):
I think, like he's a big fish in a big pond.
I don't think he needs to go to like a
fish tank, Like he doesn't need to be he doesn't
need to lower his standards and uh, you know, kind
of like ruin his coaching legacy.

Speaker 26 (01:18:24):
Just in general, I think he's good where he's at.

Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
He's definitely good where he's at. It's a family deal.
Real quickly, I wish we had more time in let's
get you involved in this.

Speaker 21 (01:18:34):
Uh yeah, I guess we can quickly start with Caitlin Clark.
I don't have much of an issue with it. She's
she's a rookie and at the end of the day,
like you know, even if she is, you know, somewhat
deserving of being on the team and being on you know,
the lower end of it. It's like every single practice,
the coach, the other players, they're gonna have to answer

(01:18:55):
questions of like, oh, how much playing time is Kaitlin Clark?

Speaker 26 (01:18:58):
And again, is she going to see the fear?

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
You know, I know they make it up as iggle along.
That's stupid. How about the Danny Hurley situation. You're there
in LA and.

Speaker 21 (01:19:06):
Yeah, Danny Hurley, I mean I've had a change of
heart since last week. Last week I really did think
that he should take it but in the time since
and since he's actually turned it down, I really do
think it was probably the better move for him. His
family was happy there, he's you know, the Lakers are
kind of a mess right now, and he's he's literally
going for a three peat, which is historic.

Speaker 26 (01:19:24):
So I think he has ever reason to stick around
where he's at.

Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
So I think that obviously his wife and his father
had immense input here.

Speaker 26 (01:19:34):
Said that, right. Huh, your moles were telling you that
right a.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
Million percent, that once he got home, his dad was
going to sit him down. And then I appreciate you
grabbing that sound so good, good, good stuff by all
the callers tonight. Appreciate it. And maybe I'll even tell
that tackle Bell story three more times just for posterity. Yeah,
I get to do what I get to do because
my name's on the show coming up City. So Joe,
you're bringing the crew the biggest story of the week,

(01:20:00):
be locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattles Show on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:20:04):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Well that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Fraddle
Show keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle.
Wick Company line from the tarret dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio tyrack dot com will
help you get there. Non matched selection, fast free shipping,

Tyrack dot com The way tied buying should be sandy.

(01:20:33):
So Joe, come on now, Joey Chestnut banned from the
twenty twenty four Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest. Come on, man,
you can't tell me they don't relish the attention. I'm
just trying to catch up on all the facts here

(01:20:56):
plant dogs? Can they cut the mustard? Yeah? That's just
too bad because Joey Chestnut was really on a roll.
See what I did there? Now the contest looks like
it's in a pickle. Somebody is gonna be in hot
water over this, I'll tell you right now. But can

(01:21:16):
I be Frank who writes his stuff? All right, I'm
oping enough for Schecky Green and the catskills next Tuesday.
Don't forget to tip your waiters and waitresses and try
to semi boldness spaghetti. A source says Chestnut was paid
two hundred grand do appear in this contest every year
and was offered a one point two million, four year
contract going forward. But it's all ky bosh right now

(01:21:40):
because he's accepted a sponsorship deal with plant based hot dogs,
whatever the heck they're called. Okay, there is America right
So now major League meeting, which sanctions sanctions Nathan's to
participate in his contest. His issue a statement quote, We're
devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut his chosen to represent

(01:22:00):
a rival brand that sales plant based hotdogs. Blah blah
blah blah blah. They went on to great links to
say they've been trying to accommodate Joy and all his demands,
but they can on this one. They likened it to
Michael Jordan going to Nike back in the day's stay.
I really like you, Nike, but I like to rep
Adidas as well. Hold that thought, because this is actually
a developing story. First of all, I absolutely think and

(01:22:23):
the numbers prove it, that the hot dog eating Contest
has become one of the great Americana spectacles of all time.
July fourth, you can look forward to it every year.
Look at these knuckleheads. Okay, So first of all, I
want to start with the crew. Let's let's bring them
in here, Kevin figures. Do you even watch the hot
dog any contest? What's your deal?

Speaker 6 (01:22:43):
No, to be honest with you, I think it's a
little disgusting.

Speaker 7 (01:22:45):
So yeah, that's fair tough for me to stomach, to
be honest, and there was no pun and send it
there at I don't need the rimshot, Mark, But is
this not my cup of tea? I understand that there's
a giant following behind it and the competitive eating in general,
but it's never been my thing to follow closely, to
be honest.

Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
Yeah, and it's it's really truly become a thing, and
it is disgusting to watch. I'll grant you that. And
I watch it anyway because I find angles to talk
about it. But all right, fair enough? Uh, Mark Ramsey?
Do you watch the hot dog eaty contest?

Speaker 6 (01:23:16):
Not on purpose?

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
No?

Speaker 6 (01:23:17):
I don't thank you for laughing. Thank you for laughing.

Speaker 27 (01:23:22):
I think it's an abuse of hot dogs. It should
be banned all the time. Why mess up a good
hot dog like that? Why does jam it down your throat?
There's no point to just jamming a hot dog down
your throat. You should eat it very carefully with a
nice drink. It just take your time, watch a baseball game.
Just take it easy, does don't jam it down your face.

Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
And please tell me you don't put ketchup on your
hot dog?

Speaker 6 (01:23:44):
Yes, I do.

Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
You know you're from Chicago.

Speaker 1 (01:23:46):
I do what I do.

Speaker 6 (01:23:48):
What I want is my hot dog.

Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
All fairness, thank you, thank you much for another day.
I went off on this on the Mallor Show one night.
It raised a hell of a fure. I think you
put ketchup on a hot dog, You're killing it. Your
your mask, your mask, the flavor. It's all right, let's
not go down the road, bree. Do you watch the
hot dog eating contest?

Speaker 11 (01:24:07):
I do not.

Speaker 25 (01:24:08):
I feel the same way as Kevin. I think it's
just a little nauseating to me. And I suffer from
heartburn too, and so I'm just thinking of just the
worst possible things. I'm thinking of acid reflex. I'm like,
that's a sophagitis going down in like, you know, four
hours from now. So it's just I can't.

Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
I can't.

Speaker 25 (01:24:28):
I'm drinking ginger ell while I'm watching it. I'm like, oh,
I if I watch like thirty seconds of it, I
turn it real quick.

Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
We're gonna have to hook you up with some probios. Yes, yeah, listen,
dipping the bun and water and all that is not
my favorite thing.

Speaker 25 (01:24:44):
But disrespect to the carbs of the hot dog bun,
for sure.

Speaker 26 (01:24:49):
Disrespect.

Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
I covered a lot of good ground. There covered a
lot of good ground. Ian, my man, do you watch
the hot dog eating contest?

Speaker 6 (01:24:58):
Not really?

Speaker 21 (01:24:59):
I mean I'll have it on in the background. But guys,
I can at least appreciate the sport. I'm not gonna
sit here and you know, dump all over the sport
and call it disgusting. I mean, you know it is
to an extent, but but uh, you know, there's we
have to be able to appreciate this like it's it's
mega popular for a reason.

Speaker 7 (01:25:19):
I think it's disrespectful to athletes to call this a sport. Yeah,
of a competition.

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Joe. Back in two thousand and four, while I was
doing radio in Detroit, I said, let's define what a
sport is. I said three things. It's a sport if
you can bet on it. That's one. Well, you can
bet on it, yes, but here comes a big butt peewee.
Can you pull a hamstring?

Speaker 13 (01:25:45):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
I don't think so. Well, talk you got two of
the three you gotta be able to pull a HAMI
trash talk and bet on it. See it's only two
of the three, but go ahead, you got the last word.

Speaker 21 (01:25:55):
Well, Bernie, you'd be surprised what I would manage to
pull my hamstring doing.

Speaker 26 (01:25:59):
Okay, I think I could.

Speaker 2 (01:26:01):
Man This guy's actually training. You should see their training.
I am not joking that Kobayashi thirty for thirty about
five years ago. Dial it up, man, So okay, I'm
the only freak here that I watch it. Okay, it's
July fourth, it's a Thursday. This year. My last yearry
Arnie and I did a show on July third. We

(01:26:22):
handicapped the whole thing, and people bet it. Let's go
back around the room because here's one of the angles here.
All right, we all eat hot dogs. Come on, man,
if you don't need a hot dog, then you know
your first aligne for a front of lobotomy. Now. I
love personally the old beef hot dogs that eat at Costco.
Those things are tremendous free plug for Costco. Maybe you

(01:26:43):
should sponsor our show. I don't know if I'm eating
plant hot dogs anytime soon. I did try one a
few years ago. It wasn't horrible, but I ate my
first choice. So here's the thing. Some of you eat
hot dogs, Kevin, do you eat plant hot dogs?

Speaker 7 (01:26:57):
I've never tried a plant based hot dogs, but I've
tried plant based burgers and they are pretty good, so
I would like them every now and then, so sure
i'd try one.

Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
Absolutely well, fair enough, Mark Ramsey, you're from Chicago. Would
you eat a plant based hot dog? Yeah? I love it.
Allow myself to introduce myself. All right, we're not a chance.
We're clearing that one, Bree, would you eat a plant
based hot dog?

Speaker 25 (01:27:26):
I would eat one, but I have never had it yet. No,
I haven't had one yet, but I would. I was like, Kevin,
I have plant based burgers and things like that, but
not a hot dog.

Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
I wonder if I wonder if they ever made burger
based plants. That would be something I don't. I did
try one, Okay, I gotta be fair. I did try
one once, but I didn't like having on a bun.
I put it in some beans, you know, hot dogs
and beans, and you know, it was so hot you
kind of sort of kind of couldn't tell the difference.
Then about it. Three days later, I had a regular
hot DOGG said, oh, yeah, you can, but they're not listen.

(01:28:00):
I'm not here to disparage him. I'm gonna make an
overarching point here in just a second in wo Okay,
everybody's open minded to have eaten a plant based hot dog,
but I think I'm the only one who's eaten one
before in plant based hot doges.

Speaker 21 (01:28:17):
Or no, no, I'm sorry to keep it boring, but
I also have never had a plant based hot dog.

Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
I'm keeping it boring. So here's the deal. These two
things are not related. Could they have not had a
meeting in the minds? So what if you want? All
that's going to do is bring more attention to the
hot dog eating contest? So what if he wants to
have plant based they're paying to do to. You know,
he makes over half a million yere Joey Chestnut building
this brand, and he works his butt off, by the way.

(01:28:42):
I know that may sound contratruitive, but he really does.
So let's go back around the room. Is it fair
that Joey Chestnut has been omitted from this year's contest?
Start with you, Kevin figures fair?

Speaker 8 (01:28:56):
Uh, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (01:28:57):
I mean, look, I certainly understand Nathan's if you believe
this is a competitor and he's going to be out
there wearing, you know, a jersey or a shirt and
talking about him. I understand the competition there, but I
also think Nathan's is losing out if they say we
don't want you to be there, because a lot of
people tune in just to see him. I think they're
cutting off their notes despite their face by doing this.
It's the ego play for them. So, oh, you want
to represent somebody else, you're not going to be here,

(01:29:18):
all right, Fine, well I'll do my own one off
on Netflix.

Speaker 6 (01:29:21):
They have better ratings than you.

Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
That's when we talk about that later. That's coming up
September second. I'll talk about that at the end of
the show. Yeah. I think he had a good point there, Kevin.
They got a little butt hurt. But they compared it
to Jordan telling Nike is it okay for a Repididas too? See.
I don't know if that's a fair analogy, because Adenis
was already a very established shoe brand, And I mean,

(01:29:47):
a plant hot dog is not a regular hot dog.
And I'm not again, I didn't case bad. I'm just
saying it's not my first choice. But I'm I'm not.
I'm just I'm a red blood in America and I
just can't do the vegan Franks. There's nothing wrong with them.

Speaker 13 (01:30:00):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
I don't need olives either, and I'm Italian. Figure that
one out. People need olives because go to the grocery
store there's rose and rose of olives, right, So I
hope I didn't have to hand in my Italian card
there calibras all right, Mark Ramsey, Are they being fair
to Joey Chestnut?

Speaker 27 (01:30:20):
I would say, I guess they're being fair because they
don't want plant Base to cut into the other hot
dog business. So they're trying to draw a line between
are you a hot dog person or are you this
manufactured out of a out of a test tube, out
of a scientific experiment. We're trying to just set the tone.

(01:30:43):
Are you with us or you against us? We're not
gonna play both sides.

Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Okay, it's pretty any point there, pretty any point impossible.
Foods is like, wait, we stepped up, we paid your money,
and they do have good products. I've had their sausage.
It's okay, it's good. It actually tastes good. I've tried
their hamburgers. It tastes good. I'm just saying, Okay, I'm
just saying I'll have an umbrella drink with No. Actually

(01:31:07):
I don't. I'm a Crown Row guy. Okay, Bree, perfect
segue to you. Are they being fair to Joy Chestnut?

Speaker 25 (01:31:15):
I mean I think they're they're being fair to their
brand and kind of their whole like marketing idea and
what you know they believe in. But I mean, he's
a competitive eater. He can go and eat pizza, he
can go and stuff seventeen slices down his throat for dominoes.
So I mean they're lucky that he has been the
face for them and has done all these things for them.

(01:31:36):
But you know, if they if they're confident in their
brand and we're going to sell X amount of dollars
and they're going to do that, that contest. And if
they're okay with the decrease in ratings and they want
to stick to that, that's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
But he's going to be a gentle interesting See if
there is a decrease in ratings, there will be let's watch,
let's let's keep an eye on that. Yeah, excellent, I'd
cuts you off breeding anything else? Were good?

Speaker 26 (01:32:00):
All good, all good?

Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
Okay, uh Ian, you got the last word on this
as far as the whether or not this is fair
and brought up a good points about possible ratings issues,
et cetera. Your thoughts on that whole deal.

Speaker 21 (01:32:13):
I mean, I'd definitely like to see I mean this
is coming after me saying I don't really watch it,
like I have it on in the background. I'll see
the clips on Twitter. So I do still want to
see Joey Chestnutt in the Nathan's Eating competition.

Speaker 26 (01:32:25):
Obviously it sucks that he's not going to be in it.
But is it fair?

Speaker 21 (01:32:29):
I honestly, I think it is just because it was
in his contract. No, so if he then decided to
go and sign with, you know, some impossible meats company
that specifically said he couldn't do that in his contract,
he knew what he was doing. And even if it,
you know, is somebody that maybe shouldn't have been in
the contract in the first place, he signed it.

Speaker 26 (01:32:49):
You got to know what you're signing. So I think
it's fair.

Speaker 13 (01:32:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 26 (01:32:52):
I don't think you can sit here and claim that
it's not fair if it was somebody that he signed Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Good, good stuff all the way around on all three
questions by the crew. Mind this event is attended by
thirty thousand people, no joke. It's a spectacle of the
highest order. Thirty thousand people will go, millions watch it
on TV. And Brie dropped a little nugget in there
about pizza. Did you know that Joey Chestnut holds world

(01:33:21):
records twenty seven world records for eating? Oh yes, I am.
This one's for you, Peter in Ottawa. He holds the
record for Taco Bell soft shell beef tacos. He need
fifty three and ten minutes. Anything neat with that, anything
to drink with that? How about twinkies, He's got the

(01:33:42):
record Joey Chestnut one hundred and twenty one twinkies in
six minutes. Anybody in his crew like chicken wings? Okay,
I'll take it as yes, Joey Chestnut. Yes, Now here's
the part that blows me away. His record is four
hundred and thirteen chicken wings. Took them twelve hours. Are

(01:34:03):
you kidding me? I think I've done anything in my
life twelve hours straight? Maybe sleep? How about Lays donuts
fifty five glaves donuts? In eight minutes, hard boiled eggs
for you, for you, ketle lovers, I'm one of them.
One hundred and forty one hard boiled eggs in eight minutes.
One hundred and forty one hard boiled eggs and eight minutes.

(01:34:24):
How many Big Max can you eat? If you're like
you know you've had a few gentlemen Jackson died cokes
in your system? How many Big Max can you eat?

Speaker 26 (01:34:31):
I could probably do a good two and a.

Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
Half, believe dad, that's pretty badass.

Speaker 6 (01:34:34):
And then just half of one.

Speaker 26 (01:34:36):
I don't know about that other half.

Speaker 25 (01:34:38):
I might like save it for later, but I would
have like a medium fry and a diet coke, So
all of those very nice.

Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
You sure that's a well routed meal. Well guess what,
Joey Chestnut. Thirty two Big Max in thirty eight minutes
can make this up? Stuff up, folks. Kevin figures you
like growed cheese sandwiches.

Speaker 6 (01:34:55):
I do love gro cheese.

Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
I knew that, No I didn't, but I got lucky there,
all right? How many can you eat Kevin grilled cheese?

Speaker 6 (01:35:02):
I probably take time about ten of them, to be honest,
on a good day.

Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
I love that man. I love that. We got to
have lunch someday. Well, Joey chestnutt forty seven girl chees
sandwiches in ten minutes. That's a record. That's a record.
That's a record. That's a record. That's a record. Now,
nothing out here about pizza? Mark Rahams. Do you like pepperoni? Rules? No?

(01:35:25):
All right, well we ate forty three and ten minutes.
How about Parrogi's You like parogis? You're from Chicago?

Speaker 20 (01:35:31):
Pass?

Speaker 2 (01:35:32):
He had one hundred and sixty five and eight minutes.
How about the Pistrami sandwiches?

Speaker 13 (01:35:38):
Pass?

Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
Well, we talked about this last week. I think that
Cat's Deli where I've been there in New York where
Harry met Sally and she had a little deal eo
half portion of Pistrami sandwiches. You ate twenty five of
them in ten minutes. How about to come up with
something you like here? Do you like pull pork sandwiches?

Speaker 6 (01:36:00):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
How many can you eat?

Speaker 6 (01:36:05):
Let's go with two?

Speaker 2 (01:36:06):
You hit forty five and ten minutes. Finally, Ian, you
got the last one. I can't get to all these records.
Do you like ice cream sandwiches? Sure? How many can
you eat?

Speaker 26 (01:36:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 21 (01:36:18):
My teeth get kind of sensitive, so probably worn. Brain
freeze too, right, yeah, brain freeze.

Speaker 2 (01:36:23):
On the twenty six ice cream sandwiches in six minutes.
Twenty six. Anybody in his crew like glazed donuts?

Speaker 6 (01:36:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
Definitely? Hello? Hello? Who can eat the most glazed donuts?
Can anybody eat ten?

Speaker 26 (01:36:36):
I could eat ten for sure?

Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Twelve non twelve glazed donuts?

Speaker 6 (01:36:43):
Is that with milk or without milk?

Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
So your choice, your choice. This is America Live, how
you want to live?

Speaker 6 (01:36:49):
With ketchup?

Speaker 26 (01:36:50):
Just kidding, I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
Fifty five glazed donuts in eight minutes. So you see
Joey Chestnut man, when you wave goodbye, you wave good
byto notkn now there may be still some sort of
there may be still some sort of de new mall
here they can come to, because we're still a couple
weeks away from July fourth. But the fourth of July tradition,
light no weather, the absolute spectacle of all spectacles, will

(01:37:15):
look a little unrecognizable this year without Joey Chestnut And
I haven't shed a tear yet, but I might on
July fourth, or not really, I won't do that, but
still it's a topic, trust me, and the topic's only
going to eat up as we get closer. I didn't
give Kevin and Mark a chance to weigh in on
Caitlin Clark and Danny Hurley if we're going to do
that coming up, because it's important and you think this

(01:37:38):
topic's going away, it ain't going away. Can you imagine,
by the way, if JJ Reddick turned him down the Lakers.
By the way, shortly after the show, our podcast will
be going up. Brion and Ian will post it. If

(01:38:01):
your podcasts is see the show posted right after we
get off the air. Coming up, some unphysist business. I'm
Kate and Danny. We'll hear from Kevin and Uh and Mark.
I'm Bernie Fraddle were a company live from the Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tiret dot Com studios. Don't go anywhere.
You're listening to the Bernie Frawdle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

(01:38:22):
All right back on the Bernie Frale Show Comedy Live
Frothetire dot Com studios here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio.
Let's get Kevin into this discussion. Kevin, you're in LA.
I knew a thing or two about hoops. What were
your thoughts when you found out that Danny Hurley turned
on the job.

Speaker 7 (01:38:38):
Wasn't the least bit surprised, To be honest with you,
I lawed the Lakers for taking the big swing at it,
but all the stuff that you were hearing, you know,
once you heard that he put it, they put up
a quote unquote compelling case, and he was flying back.
He used to mull over his options. He kind of
figured that that was a nail on the coff And
usually in situations like this, when they fly somebody out
and there's a giant.

Speaker 6 (01:38:57):
Meeting, they're not gonna let you leave the room and
they're going to sign you as a new head coach
if it's actually going to happen.

Speaker 7 (01:39:02):
So I was pessimistic when I saw that report from
ward from WOJ and then the next day obviously the
news broke that he was staying. There are just too
many things working against the Lakers in this situation. You
talked about him liking being on the East Coast. Obviously,
the contract numbers didn't match up the way that they
wanted it to. The Laker job just isn't that great
of a job right now, And I don't know if
it's worth leaving Yukon right now for that particular NBA job.

(01:39:25):
There are other jobs that you can get, and I
think you'll still be a hot name after this next season,
even if you don't win a national championship. So I
just don't think this was the right move at the
right time for him. So I'm not the least but
surprise that he decided to stay, and I would have
been more surprised Bernie had he taken the job.

Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
To be honest, right, I'm in agreement. I was pretty
emphatic about that. All Right. Did the Olympic Committee make
the right decision on Kate mc clark.

Speaker 6 (01:39:48):
Well, I think it's sort of complicated.

Speaker 7 (01:39:49):
I mean, look the Olympic Committee after If you want
to say, what is their job and their obligation, I
think it is to try to put the best what
twelve thirteen however many players it is that makes the
roster onto the roster to give them a chance to
So if you want to make an argument. And I'm
not gonna lie and say that I watch a lot
of women's basketball. I know who the top twelve to
fifteen players are. I would say it's unlikely that Kaitlyn
Clark right now is one of the top fifteen players

(01:40:11):
in women's basketball right now.

Speaker 6 (01:40:13):
Now along with that, are they gonna need all twelve players?

Speaker 7 (01:40:16):
I mean, the women's team is not national team hasn't
lost the game since nineteen ninety two, and even then
they've lost three. They lost twice in seventy six and
they lost once to ninety two, and they haven't lost
in the Olympics ever since. So the twelve person at
the end of the bench really is going to make
a difference one way or the other. So, from that standpoint,
if you're talking about marketing dollars eyeballs, put her at
the end of the bench. You're gonna be up by

(01:40:37):
fifty at the end of the first half most of
the time anyway, and throw her into the game, get
more sponsorships attached to it. So from a business standpoint,
I would understand why you would take her. From a
basketball standpoint, if you're a member of the committee for
picking the best basketball players, I would understand why you
would want to leave.

Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
Her off fair enough, and I'm okay with the decision
to leave her off. And I'm a big Caitlyn Clark fan.
I gave plenty receipts at the top of the show
that are objective truth rather than the people in their
personal It's good, good stuff, Kevin Mark Ramsey start with
Caitlin Clark. Did they leave her? Leaving her off the
team is at the right decision.

Speaker 27 (01:41:13):
I think it's a good decision because her presence might
not have made that much of a difference other than
the star power and her face. And she's on the
team since they already have a bunch of winners to
play the game and to make sure the important part
is to win the games. She wouldn't make that much

(01:41:34):
of a difference, So it's fine to leave her off.
I mean, she can have a chance, you know, when
it comes around again.

Speaker 2 (01:41:40):
And then, of course, what were your thoughts when you
heard that. Danny Hurley said, not, no, hell none to
the Lakers.

Speaker 27 (01:41:46):
I think when a person has to make a decision
about something and you get a piece of paper and
draw a line down and the pros and then the
cons about what it is looking at the Lakers that
they are, as you have said, a dumpster fire in
a sense, and that it would take too much trouble

(01:42:07):
to become a coach of a bunch of guys that
think they don't need anyone to help them and all
that it goes into trying to get their minds of
how to win again, versus being with everybody has said
he's a teacher, so staying in college he can still
teach people that want to learn, versus people that who

(01:42:30):
is this guy? Yeah he's good in college, but what
has he done for me? I don't care. And then
the long run, whatever success he might have would go
to one of his teammates versus he gets the applause
for So there's a no win situation. It would take
too much trouble. There's too many hurdles to come to

(01:42:53):
La versus staying where he is and he could be
on the verge of having another good season two be
a three time winner.

Speaker 26 (01:43:02):
So just too much trouble to come here.

Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
Yeah, both stories have I think pros and cons, And
we'll just see how these issues play out, because I
don't think it's going away anytime soon. We have to
see you know certainly the Caitlin Karth thing is going
to last the whole season and maybe beyond. And then

(01:43:24):
of course we'll see if JJ Reddick takes a Lakers job,
which we believe he will, but what if he doesn't.
What if he doesn't, that just perhaps signs a bigger
spotlight on the fact that Danny Hurley said, no, we
covered all including soccer coming up Chris Purfet's World of Soccer,
but first go back to our guy, Kevin figures with the.

Speaker 7 (01:43:43):
Latest All right, Bernie is there will be a Game
five of the NBA Finals on Monday night. This after
the Mavericks molly wapped the Celtics one twenty two to
eighty four. Luka Donchig and Kyrie Irving actually struggled from
beyond the arc, disc combining to go one of fourteen
from three point range, but the MAVs held it down defensively,
holding the Celtics to just thirty six percent shooting. The
out rebounded Boston fifty two to thirty one and one

(01:44:05):
points in the paint sixty to twenty six. Celtics, still
leading the series three games to one, they will be
able to close it out yet again in Boston on
Monday Nights and Golf's second round at the US Open.
Ludvig Obert has a one stroke lead over Bryson Deshambeau
and Patrick Cantley, while Roy McElroy is two strokes back.

Speaker 6 (01:44:22):
World number one.

Speaker 7 (01:44:23):
Scottie Scheffler barely made the cut at five over, while
Tiger Woods missed the cut. And baseball Seattle has won
five of their last six. They lead the AO West
by six and a half games after defeating Texas three
to two. The Dodgers defeated the Royals four to three
after falling behind three nothing despite committing five errors. The
Reds defeated at Milwaukee six to five for their ninth
win in their last eleven games. Chris Sale now seven

(01:44:45):
to zero at home after the Braves beat Tampa Bay
seven to three. Former Red Sock alex Erdugo with three
hits in a home run for the Yankees as a
hammer at Boston eight to one. Back to Bernie Freddo
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:44:56):
Thanks Kevin. We covered all on The Bernie Fradle Show,
and as you know, each week at this time we
bring you Chris Burfett's World of Soccer.

Speaker 3 (01:45:06):
The Greatest Goals, the thrilling finishes the international drama. Him fuck,
it's all here in this report from the World of Soccer,

(01:45:27):
finally burning.

Speaker 28 (01:45:27):
After all these months, we finally made it to the
international schedule that actually matters. We're talking about UWEIFA European
Championship twenty twenty four or EUROS and the Copa America
for Konmobol and CONCA CAF here twenty twenty four. We
haven't had as much time off as usually four years
between these tournaments, but you know, because of COVID, a

(01:45:49):
lot of that were played in twenty twenty one, so
teams coming back with a little less time off than
we anticipate, which means we just get right straight at it.
Euro is beginning this weekend, has already been a game played.
We'll talk about that one in a second, and Copa
here next weekend. Let's try to preview both, and we're
gonna start with EUROS. European Championship is one of my

(01:46:11):
favorite tournaments in the world. It is phenomenal. It is
like the World Cup, but on a much smaller scale,
and already Germany is off to a flying start five
to one over Scotland. The game on Friday Scotland had
some buzz coming into this contest, but man, they Letremy
Germany handle them effortlessly. Tony Kruz free to deal damage

(01:46:32):
all day long. All you had to do was just
leave him up there and he gets an immaculate ninety
foot cross to Florian Wurtz gets the goal started. It's
the kind of teamwork which we've kind of expect to
see from Germany. It'd be interesting to see how far
they can go in a tournament where they haven't had
the same kind of success as has been previous years.
Now Italy are the defending champions and they come in

(01:46:55):
licking a lot of wounds and it wasn't really even
an easy road for them to get here. A goalless
draw against Ukraine at the end of their qualification did
get them in, but it wasn't the proud way to
go in, and they need to do some late stage
homework in the last few matches prior to that to
get the points to get in and to be honest,

(01:47:15):
the twenty twenty Championship for them is starting to feel
more and more bittersweet, and it was made more and
more bittersweet by missing out on the twenty twenty two
FIFA World Cup. It was made bittersweet by Roberto Mancini
resigning a lot of the old generation simply being lost,
and by the days as it goes by, that twenty

(01:47:37):
twenty euro crown feels just a little heavier, a little
worse for wear, because it just wasn't a prelude to
a good Italian club. Now, however, we've got Luciano Spiletti
and unfortunately he's dealing with the circus already. They have
been spent the week in Italy arguing with the press
about some misinterpreted words from him about a quote PlayStation

(01:47:59):
ban on. But it's not the same squad as before,
and really this is an Italian team that is lacking
attacking options. They know, how longer have Varati, they no
longer have Incigne. They will have Jean Lucas Scamaca nineteen
goals this season for Adalanta, but he's only scored for
Italy one time so far. But this will be a
really good defensive squad. I just don't know if that's

(01:48:22):
really going to cut it in twenty twenty four. And
it's really tough for me as an Italian fan to
watch this and just kind of hold my breath wondering
what's going to go wrong. But my pick for Euro
and I keep doing this and I regret it every
year though is England. But here's the thing, if not now,
when for England. This England squad features a wonderful midfield

(01:48:46):
Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice. They have a resurgent Harry Kane
who was great in Germany this past year, the phenomenal
buoyak Osaka sixteen goals for Arsenal. They came so close
in twenty twenty, losing in that shootout to Italy. But
each year England comes back more loaded, more stocked up,
and much like the World Cup, you have to wonder

(01:49:08):
are they going to screw this up or are they
actually going to bring it home? You just kind of
hold your breath wondering what's going to happen. But still
on paper to the best team, they're one of the
favorites and they're my pick for Euro twenty twenty four.
Let's move over to Copa America. It's going to start
next week. There's always this is a contest that always
seems to come down to Argentina and Brazil. Argentina, the

(01:49:29):
defending champions, once again here. This is probably Lionel Messi's
final time with Argentina. I don't know if he's going
to be on the World Cup squad one more time,
but it's certainly going to be the last Copa for
one of the greatest players we've ever seen. Brazil always
a heavyweight in this, but let's talk about the United States,
who will be playing along with several other CONCA Caffe

(01:49:50):
nations like Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama. USA had a
one to one draw against Brazil in a friendly leading
up to this tournament. It ended in eleven game losing
streak against Brazil for the USA, so that's a good sign.
But the week prior we had a five to one
loss to Colombia and it just once again reinforces the

(01:50:12):
problem with the United States. A massive, massive, very inconsistent,
and really it's kind of always been the frustration watching
a Greg bear Halter squad where you just know they
have the talent there, and they know they have the
talent to compete, but it just never really seems to
translate game to game and you're just left stretching your

(01:50:32):
head wondering, why does this club, why does this team
who can draw even with Brazil, one of the greatest
nations in the world at soccer, and then lose five
to one to Columbia earlier than that. It just it
never makes sense. And this is going to be the
USA playing on its home turf here in America, this
is where COPA.

Speaker 6 (01:50:51):
Will be, and it just keeps going back months and months.

Speaker 28 (01:50:54):
You can look to the game against Jamaica in March
and the each by Greg Borhalter there as he's just
trying to get his guys in the United States to
take all of these games seriously if they are going
to compete at COPA, and by his own admission, it
seems to be in one year out the other sometimes,
which is terrifying to think about really, because that's ultimately

(01:51:17):
been the problem with the United States has been this consistency.
And if I may Bernie, where's the buzz around.

Speaker 6 (01:51:23):
The US men's team?

Speaker 28 (01:51:24):
The women always get a lot of attention, Yes we
know that, but like, where is the buzz around this
US men's scene? This is supposedly great generation. I have
seen plenty of empty stadiums for a team USA. It
is certainly not the kind of fan turnout we used
to get when it was Tim Howard and Landon Donovan
and Clinton Dempsey. It feels like that fire under the

(01:51:47):
fan base has just completely gone out and nobody is
really resonating with this current generation. This squad is better
than ever, and yet media attention is nowhere near what
it was just ten year years ago with that past generation.
Nobody is really resonating with these guys right now, And
to be honest, can't really blame them when we have

(01:52:07):
these kind of consistency problems, because yes, Christian Pulisich is better,
and yes Giovanni Raina is better, even though he keeps
getting screwed out of a lot of playing time no
matter which your Apan club he goes to. But it's
really hard when you just see these guys out there
with a lack of fire game to game. You want
them to fight like dogs like Clint Dempsey did, and
I just I don't think that's there right now, and

(01:52:29):
that's ultimately ultimately going to hurt them in COPA For
me me though, on COPA, my favorite my favorite is
on Brazil Venicius Junior Rodrigo. They've had some fantastic players
here from the club side of things, and expect again
another wonderful outing from Vensius Junior. I'm kind of hoping

(01:52:50):
good things from this Brazil squad here, especially as Argentina
starts to show its age. I think if we're just
talking about the United States, you just hope to see
them in the knockout and come out of their group,
which should be easy for them. They're playing Bolivia, Panama
and Uruguay. But Panama has always been trouble for the
United States for whatever reason, and Uruguay is no slouch.
That's it for me, Bernie, enjoy Copa, Enjoy Euros. We've

(01:53:14):
got plenty to talk about next time on the World
of Soccer.

Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
All right, Chris brought up a lot of good points there.
But coming up we wrap up the show and we
might dive back into the world of hot dogs. There
might be something for you to look forward to, something
called unfinished Beef. Yeah, I'll tell you what, never miss

(01:53:43):
a chance to capitalize if you get my drift. And
I actually think, I actually think this little deal coming
up September two might just be with the doctor order.
By the way, just one thing and mark you. I'll
be like a fat kid love cake. But man, I
can't get past the ketchup on the hot dog. Deal man.

(01:54:04):
I just feel like when you put ketchup on a
hot dog, you're not enhancing the flavor, You're camouflaging it.
It's killing you. Killing.

Speaker 27 (01:54:11):
Ketchup used to be something sweet that I would take.
But once I found out ketchup is too sweet and
you should cut it out, then I went over the mustard.
But I enjoyed it because it was sweet.

Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
All fair, man, I just I'm hung up on this one.
I just feel like ketchup on hot dogs like putting
ice cubes and wine. Man, so like eating pizza with
a spoon, but.

Speaker 26 (01:54:31):
If you want it cold, you want to put ice
in the wine.

Speaker 6 (01:54:35):
Thank you for driving.

Speaker 2 (01:54:37):
I could see we have I could see we have
future topics coming up here as we are no longer
no longer.

Speaker 26 (01:54:44):
Some people like the little noise when they stir their
you know, when they swig their cup.

Speaker 6 (01:54:48):
They tink tink, tink tin.

Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
I learned something new. I learned something new. All right,
Coming up, we wrap up the show and I share
with you an alternative to July fourth. It'll be September second,
and yeah, it's gonna be a big deal. I'm Bernie Friday.
We're covered you a live from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio,
Tirec dot Com Studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Friddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,

(01:55:12):
we are wrapping it up on The Bernie Fraddle Show.
And before I go any further, I want to thank
my broadcast team. They've been with me since eleven pm
Pacific time on a Friday night, Ian Roddy, great job
as always, and thanks for your help assisting Brie who
joined the show tonight, and she'll be back with me
on Saturday night. Here eleven pm Pacific. We sign on

(01:55:35):
again here, eh, what about twenty two hours something like that.
We'll do the math later eleven pm Saturday night Pacific,
eleven pm to three am. Mark Ramsey turning all the dials,
keeping us schooed together. Great job as always, and of
course Kevin Figures with his updates, and great job by
the crew weighing in on the Caitlin Clark situation and
Danny Hurley among other things. And of course, hey, you

(01:55:58):
know it's a hot dog world, old man. We like
hot dogs, and you know we also like Netflix and chill.
Well that's there's a segue Netflix and Chill. Well, maybe
not Netflix and Chill, but Netflix and hot Dogs. Well,
turns out Netflix is getting into the competitive eating business. No,
and I'm not talking about Mike Tyson. Maybe biting Jake

(01:56:19):
Paul's here work with me. Labor Day, September second, two
legends of the Nathan's hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut
and Takaro Kobayashi. But you didn't know his first name,
You just saw Kobayashi. They will have their center stage
on Netflix and a live special event called Chestnut Versus

(01:56:42):
Kobayashi and Unfinished Beef. Now, we don't know where the
this fight's gonna take place. We know we'll coach. You
know the Tyson Fight's gonna take place in Jerry Jones
World in Dallas or Arlington. Excuse me, we still know
the specific timing. But we do know this. Flix has
said no pun The hot dogs will be all beef.
