Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening Boom, What Up America Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox
Sports Radio coming to you live and direct from the
City of Angels. Hopefully you're having a great Thursday as
we begin the best time of the year. I know
what you're thinking, Like Gottlieb, basketball guy, best have of

(00:24):
the year, March Badness, Mark Mennis is awesome, awesome, incredible
to cover, I've done it, incredible playing. I've done that too.
That's great. This is better. Why we have meaningful NFL football,
meaningful college football, and we have Major League Baseball's playoffs
right in front of us. Plus, this is the my
favorite time of the year weather wise. There is not

(00:45):
a part of this country to which I don't like
the weather now better than the weather any even when
it's cold and brisk. And I love that good cup
of Joe Pumpkins spice latte for everybody. Plus it culminates
in my favorite holiday, Halloween, right, Halloween's great holiday, which

(01:06):
is weird because normally I don't like to be scared,
but I but Halloween has taken on more of a fun,
lighthearted make fun of everything there is. There are no
PC police on Halloween than anything else. The NBA is
getting ready to start their season in about two weeks.

(01:27):
The NHL just started their season. So you have football, basketball,
even the hockey, and of course Major League Baseball's playoffs.
It's great and as predicted, last night was an amazing
baseball game that exactly zero people in the real world
cared about. The night before, which started out with great fireworks,

(01:50):
right Yankees get down three nothing, tied up at three,
but end up winning eight to four. The night before,
the Yankees took on the Twins that got a five
point eight national rating. Waiting on the final numbers for
last night, but it's somewhere in the one point seven
one point eight, And that was an amazing game. You

(02:12):
had a relief pitcher hit a triple. The Diamondbacks had
what three triples as a team four I think one
guy had a trouble from each side of the plate,
like I've never seen that before in the same game.
There's all kinds of stuff going on in that game
last night. Charlie Blackman's beard, uh did a one on
one conversation, like all kinds of stuff going on. And

(02:36):
I'm not gonna say exactly zero people care, but not
a ton of people cared. I am glad though the
Diamonbacks won just because they have three of the best
players in the sport and now they could to take
on the Dodgers and they have been the nemesis for
the Dodgers. This year should be great. But the story
that everyone's talking about it is something that we touched

(02:58):
on because it, yeah, it started to brew, it popped.
Yesterday towards the end of our show, Cam Newton was
conducting his weekly press conference with his local Beat reporters
when one asked him this question. I know you take
a lot of pride in seeing your receivers playing well.

(03:20):
Devin Funchess just seemed to really embrace the physicality of
his routes and and making getting those extra yards because
that give you a little bit of an enjoyment to
see him kind of trust sticking people out there. It's
funny to hear female talk about routes like funny boy,

(03:41):
that didn't go over so well. Right, that didn't go
over so well. And of course now it's become about
Cam losing. He lost oinkos, right, which is uh, that
Greek yogurt that he was pitching that Dannon makes. He
lost them as a sponsorship, he'll probably lose some others
as well. What is it? What do you? How do

(04:03):
you pronounce it? Some other way? I thought was Oiko's
not oinkos? Yeah? Oinkos is probably a bad right. It's
like oios. They should have named it oinkos. Man, I
love that yogurt. It makes me pick out oint goes anyway, Um,
so he loses a sponsorship. Now the reporter who's the

(04:25):
beat reporter for I think as Charlotte Observer. They went
back into her Twitter account and they found she was
she said her dad had racist jokes or something when
she was they were going by a Navajo reservation like
five years ago. There's some other deal about Dale Earnhardt
with an N I G G A, which I don't
know if she retweeted or tweeter herself that she's being

(04:48):
leagaled or labeled or racist. He's been labeled as sexist, Like, look,
you got it all wrong. Was it sexist? Of course
it was? Is it what a lot of guys in
sports think about non athletes and sports? Yeah, dude, I
get it every week from D'Angelo Williams, two time Pro
Bowl running back. He does he from a non player, like,

(05:10):
all right, I'll play your game, don't bother me. Sometimes
you have to show that you understand what you're seeing,
and you have to give respect to people who should
know a lot more about it, which, by the way,
is why she's asking a question. On the other hand,
there was just such a condescending tone that you almost
thought he was gonna say, so funny as females talking

(05:33):
about rouse, why don't you go make me a sandwich?
That's what you thought he was going to say, That's
how cam Newton said. But you know what, then I
kind of went back through my mental rolodex and I
realized something, Cam Newton is exactly who we all thought
he was. You may have not thought he was a
male shown his pig. You may not have thought that,
but most women now that's how they view up. And

(05:56):
there hasn't been an apology yet, and there really isn't
an apology needed, right, Like, what's he gonna say, sorry,
it was a male chelving his pig. I'll try not
to display that was a male chelving his pig in
the very near future, even though every time I walk
into a room, you think I'm a male chelving his pick, right,
there's just that's a really hard one to come back from.

(06:16):
To me, most of it was about he played and
knowing that a woman had not played football. That's what
he thinks. It's making an assumption, which is usually a
pretty accurate assumption, even if her dad was a decorated
football coach. Right, he's making an assumption. He's a stereotyping

(06:37):
he frankly, and I've heard it from some of my
athletes friend athlete friends about Tom Verducci was an analyst
in the booth. Now he does sidelines for Fox's coverage
of the playoffs in the World Series. But when he
was in the booth one year with Harold Reynolds, I
feel like, why is Tom Virducci talking about, you know,
breaking down baseball swings and and throwing motion. And he
didn't play, didn't coach, didn't wasn't a general managerment base

(06:59):
polace writer. So part of it is the widely held
belief by athletes that people who are not athletes are
not qualified to speak on some of the machinations, some
of the more intricate details. And she did, in fact
make a statement She's like, he's running more physical routes.

(07:19):
But it was a softball question. He didn't have to,
and he did. He stomped her out anyway, he laughed
at her in front of her colleagues. And you only
do that, you only cost yourself likely millions of dollars
in UH in endorsements, and even more in respect and

(07:43):
credibility and honor really, not just among reporters, but among
women if you're not that smart. And I think it's
one of the things that we're tiptoeing around about Cam Newton, right,
is that Cam Newton is just not a right fella.
He's not. Now most of my UH media brethren won't

(08:08):
say that, Okay they won't, and there's a reason why,
because there was this completely, i mean, just the stupidest
thing ever was thirty years ago. There was a thought,
there was a wisdom forty years ago, fifty years ago
that the black quarterback wasn't smart enough to pick up
an NFL office. That actually was what people fought, and that,

(08:30):
of course has been proven wrong time and again. Go
through quarterbacks in the NFL. Jamis Winston may not because
he's frankly speaks with more of a Southern dialect. Okay,
he may not be bright to you if you watched
him when he was on the Elite eleven, you've ever
watched him when he was in Gruden's film room. If
you watched him talk about quarterback play this year with hard,

(08:52):
hard knocks like that. Dude is kind of a football savant.
You'll see him tonight, you know from Warren Moon and
too Russell Wilson, Like you gotta go like, look, there
are smart quarterbacks and dumb quarterbacks white, black and otherwise.
Cam Newton's not dumb because he's a black quarterback, very important.
He just happens to not be very bright. Who happens

(09:14):
to be black. He's been sheltered. People have made exceptions
for some of the things he said, some of the
things he's done. He's not bright, hella. And once we
start with that, you start to go like, oh right,
like y, you gotta be an idiot two say that

(09:35):
and not understand how the world is going to react
to you. But that So I would love to say
that this stuns me, it shocks me, it appalls me,
But it doesn't. I know that lots of athletes and

(09:56):
in some ways, I when I when I'm having a
conversation with people who didn't play basketball, at all asked
me about basketball and something about an offense, or about spacing,
about something real, some intricate detail. I do go through
the leaps in my head of the this guy has
no idea what he's talking about because he's never actually played.

(10:17):
It's a hard one for me. I'm not gonna lie
to you. But what I try to not do is
laugh at people, even worse yet, laugh at them in
front of their colleagues, even worse yet, laugh at them
and make fun of their gender because there's no possible
way they would have played my sport because their gender.
Willie Cologna, of course, was a Pro Bowl alignment in
the NFL. He was on My Buddy Rhymer solo hosted

(10:39):
show one of the other places, right, And this was
in July. And by the way, what was funny about
it was, um, it was on the same day I
believe that Colin Colin Cowherd said that Cam Newton takes
kind of a lazy way out and he, you know,

(11:00):
running is more of a lazy waight uh to read
a read a football, read a football field. Um, and
that's why he's doomed to fail. And the Carolina Panthers
on their Twitter account came out and crushed Colin Coward meanwhile,
a former NFL player, former offensive lineman. And yeah, by
the way, he's black. I don't know if that makes
any difference to you, but he said quote, I think

(11:22):
the powers that be, even Ron Rivera, understand that Cam,
he may not be that smart. Things may have to
be dumbed down for him. They understand that he can
run the ball. They understand that he can probably throw
digs out, routes, posts, drags and that's what he can do.
And he can throw the deep ball. Like, look, he's
just not that bright of fella. Steve Smith said he
can't read a defense in the red zone. Guys talk

(11:43):
about it like wow, you know there's decision making, one
of those expressions we use in this show. There are
no more secrets, only facts yet to be revealed. If
it hasn't been revealed to you that, both socially and
at times professionally, Cam Newton not the sharpest fella in
the world. After yesterday's remark, you're just not paying attention,

(12:07):
Charles Davis joins the show up up coming next, I'll
ask him about my thoughts on Cam. His thoughts on
Cam oh yeah, and the newing of Patriots take on
the Tampay Buccaneers. But the Patriots were completely lost defensively
against Kim New. They actually made him didn't look good.

(12:28):
How do you fix that in a short week? They
played tonight. We'll ask Charles Davis from the NFL on
Fox up coming next. But first, you know, other things
that you don't want to talk about but have to
do in your life are things like life insurance. Who
wants to think about dying? But do you have a family,

(12:51):
you have kids, you have things, people that you're leaving behind.
You want to make sure that they're taking care of it.
Oh yeah. By the way, the sooner you take care
of it, the less it will cost you right away.
And in the long run, it's just a smart decision
to make. It's a box you have to check off.
And there's a reason you need to call Select Quote.

Uh it is Uh, it's really cool to be friends
with somebody and and why and listen to them like
on a weekly basis, right Like it's it's fun. I've

(14:17):
been doing this long enough to where all the national
radio shows, I mean as part of his when you
work at all these networks, and then having worked out
at CBS UM watching the NFL games like I know
all of those played by play guys and most of
the color analysts as well, and then coming over to
work at Fox like um watching listening to Charles Davis
college game like oh, I know him. We've had him.
I've had him one for years. And then it's a

(14:38):
lot better when he's really good at his job too.
Write like it's really well prepared, totally insightful, and you
just like, there's a guy it's I have Charles Davis
joints is in the Doug Gotlip Show. I don't know
if you have this trouble in your in your world.
I do, okay, I have trouble being friends with people
who I don't think are good at their job. I
just do, and I like it's a weird thing, um anyway,

(15:00):
And I think you've been doing an incredible job on
the on the Fox broadcast covering the Nation Football League
this year. So that's that's my that's my that's my.
How are you, hello, Doug? And thank you so much.
I really really appreciate that. You know, you know Kevin Burkhart,
He's absolutely extraordinary. Pam Oliver has been around and done
this thing so well for so long. And I've got
a great crew with Pete Macheskin already keptner. So I

(15:23):
found like I'm doing an Oscar speech or something. But
I I am very fortunate to be in the spot
I'm in. I'm just gonna keep working hard. I appreciate
your kind words, and it's great a chat with you.
The best part was last week or I'm watching that
game in London. I get up early up. Oh yeah, yes, yes, no.
But and you guys, but here's the thing, Like I
know the league wants you to paint a rosy picture
of but you're like, hey, hey there's a flag. You

(15:45):
guys are making fun of how many flags? Like it's
weird there hasn't been a penalty in a while because
there's been so many penalties. And you basically said like, look,
this is just not not not good football. Why do
we keep exporting bad football? Yeah? I mean, and that's
it's you know, we You're exactly right. We try and
do it with balance. But that game was out of
balance and and our guys did a fantastic job of

(16:06):
documenting it because Kevin quarterbastists. We talked about it. I
don't think we went overboard about about about discussing it.
We didn't come off the top Ropen hit him with
big elbows. But at the half we showed a graphic
that said there have been fifty seven plays run so far.
There have been sixteen penalties. That's just that's just not
good for any anyone. I don't care if you're trying

(16:27):
to sell the game in London, if you're trying to
do the game back to the United States. No one
wants to watch a game that already is stop start.
That's the nature of football. Stop start, stop start stop
start now stop start conference stop start, conference stop starting.
He's like, oh my god, you know I do really
that's try. I said it kiddingly, but I finally believe that. Unfortunately,

(16:49):
that crew had to get some treatment postgame. Rotator cuffs
and these labor ms, the whole deal. They were chucking
them like crazy. The second half was a better, but
the game at that point was tough. And then I'm
going to stop right here with this last comment. We're
in London trying to promote our game across the across
you know, the world, and for a long time, if

(17:12):
you took our game to places like that, they were
just happy to have a game. You know what I mean, Doug.
I mean, you're a basketball guy and you've seen how
that proliferation has happened to where it's gotten popular. Um.
The thing about it now is we've got to keep
in mind they're actually educated about the game. Now. There
was booing in the first half because people now recognize

(17:34):
bad football and a bad product when they're watching it.
And it wasn't so much the teams weren't trying. That
wasn't it at all. It just wasn't fun for them
to watch. And that's something we've got to keep in
mind as we go forward. I'm not saying don't throw
a flag. And I guarantee you if I sat down
with Ed hockey Ley and his crew, they'd say, look,
you killed us on air. But here was the flag.

(17:54):
That was the flag that they could justify every call.
I bet I could sit in that same room and say,
are you sure you needed to throw that one? I
want to ask you about what Cam Newton said, and um, first,
by now I know you've heard it, what was your
media reaction? By media reaction was this is gonna get big.
I mean it's just right out of the game. This

(18:15):
is gonna get huge because it wasn't just the comment,
it is the accompanied body language that went with it.
And we are in a position right now, Doug, as
you well know, where the league is talking about equality, unity,
everyone getting a fair shake. We have Terrell Prior saying
he was called the N word numerous times in the
game in Kansas City the other night cam actually just

(18:38):
just this Sunday scored and did the Tommy Smith you know,
and John Carlos Black Powers in the end zone talking
about equality, wanting things to be right, and then to
treat someone as an unequal by that comment in those
in those two in that body language, it just is
not now that they do not sit right for me.

(19:00):
It's not the right thing by any stretch of the imagination.
A person is a professional, and I love what you
said in the beginning. It's hard to be friends with
people who aren't good at their job. But the question
that was asked was a question I could have been
asked by any gender. It was right on target about
that baggame because I watched the game. I I mean
I went back and watched the tape they were making.
A camera called them big boy plays out at wide

(19:22):
receiver and these big receivers are running over people didn't
our gender. That was a legitimate football question, and for
it to be dismissed that way, I said, Oh, this
is going to get to be really, really big. The
stunner for me is that we didn't have the apology already.
And I guess I've already heard of sponsors dropped him
in this, that and everything. And it's funny part for me,
last last thing does I'm hearing from the other side

(19:44):
saying what was the one? What was so bad about it?
And two? Yeah, women don't belong in that anyway. I
was like, Okay, here we go. Well, look I I
I agree with you on all parts about the comment.
I do we do know that, you know, look at
you as a former player of music, former player, Um,
you have to learn that that people who ask questions

(20:06):
and sometimes they're as analysts, had never played the game
inside locker rooms. Guys don't like that. They don't respect
that nearly as much. Um here here is kind of
my opening kind of salvo into it. I'm I think
everyone in our industry is really hesitant to call out
the intelligence of a black quarterback. And you haven't gone

(20:26):
to Tennessee. You know the the it was a contradge hollow. Yeah, right,
And and so anyone who has is old enough to
remember this incredibly stupid time to which there was a
thought that a black man wasn't smart enough to be quarterback.
And of course Doug Williams being asked at the Super
Bowl famously, how long have you been black? We're all

(20:49):
sensitive to it. On the other hand, like I kind
of think we have enough data to say, like I,
Kim's just not that bright. He just he does enough things,
says enough things. Is obviously he has to be obtuse
to how he is perceived. And when you're when you're
when you're twenty eight years old, and this is how
you are, you just strike me as somebody who's not

(21:11):
that emotionally intelligent. Is that a fair thing to say?
I think it's a fair thing to to bring up
and and be able to analyze the question that I
would have for him. And hopefully I'll get a chance
to talk to him this weekend, you know, prior to
the game, and we'll see if there are any parameters
set to our conversation and what happened. We'll see how
it goes. But the question I would have is he's

(21:33):
actually in the absolute wheelhouse where women reporting on games
and talking to players is kind of the norm. I
played at Tennessee and got out. We had a beat
writer by name of Sydney McConkie, who did a terrific job. Okay,
but because she was the female beat writer covering the

(21:56):
volve and at some point the locker room axis became
an is so post game all the men would for
into locker room and ask his question. She had to
wait out in the hall. They were like, that doesn't work,
she can't do her job. It's had to change our
policy to where everyone was brought outside the locker room
that they wanted to talk to. Okay, and that had
to be because of Cindy. That's how far we've come.

(22:16):
And then what we're doing with these things. Things are open, etcetera, etcetera.
It's right in his wheelhouse. This is ship. This is
not an unusual deal. Why then, and why at that
moment he chose to make a comment they just didn't
have to make and it was a softball question. It
was a softball question too, like it was, yeah, she

(22:36):
made a statement, which you don't have to make a statement,
but as you said, it was an accurate football statement.
And then she asked him like, boy, that's gotta make
you happy to see your wide receiver succeed. And he
stomped on her and he laughed at her in front
of her colleagues. Like you can laugh at somebody in
a private one on one and patronize them then, but
to do it in front of your colleagues, that's just
it's just it's that's such a bad look. Um. I
want to last last thing real quick, and we're in

(22:59):
a time we're colleagues will come to her defense. This
is not Lisa Olsen right where she's left out on
an island way back when. This is a time now
where colleagues are enlightened enough to say, hold about the second.
That's not how this team has played. Because in the
old days, the Cells would have laughed in locker, would
have laughed in in the press room. They didn't laugh

(23:19):
in the press room. It's not a laughing matter. Sorry.
Charles Davis joining us NFL on Fox Analysts. I do
want to ask you about that game that I know
you broke down because you're calling the Carolina game this week.
Patriots play on a short week, and boy, they seem lost.
I know they don't have a pass rush and that's bad,
but when you spend all that money in your defensive
backfield and Stephan Gilmore seems completely lost back there. Um,

(23:43):
how fixable is that on a short week, and then
how fixable is it long term? It's fixable more. It's
more it's much more fixable long term short week, which
you often have to do. Unfortunately, it's simplify, And when
we talked about sim we'll find when we're talking about
the top levels of any sport, it's actually somewhat folly

(24:05):
because you can say we're going to simplify and play
one or two coverages. Well, if you don't have answers
that things are going to do, they're just gonna carve
you up in those one or two coverages. I don't
care how well you played them. You have to have
enough coverages to cover every possible thing that they're going
to throw out there. And then if you execute from
that point, you're going to be okay, because you throw
execution out the window, Doug, if you don't have an

(24:28):
answer to present before the ball snapped. Gilmore I've heard
is heard may not even go on Thursday night. They
may go with someone who's been around the system a
little bit longer and have to play that person, and
maybe that person to pick up on things. But I
think that the play that encapsulated it. And I'm sure
you saw it. Remember when McCaffrey went in motion and

(24:48):
Gilmore and I forgot who the other person was that
ran across the formation with him, and then they threw
the screen by the backside the Fozzy Whittaker who was
wide open, wide open. That encapsulated what was going on.
I've never seen a New England defense, And of course
that's a little bit hyperbole, but you don't think of
a New England defense that isn't in the right spots.

(25:09):
Do they get out executed or a guy makes a
great play, sure, but you rarely do you see the
bus that we saw continuously. That was just one of
many in that game. And the flip side is the
offense looks fine. Tom Brady is getting hit a lot,
and this reminds me of a couple of years ago
when they went to the FC title game and Denver
trucked them in terms of getting to tom Brady. Though

(25:29):
the score was close, they they had pressure on him
all day made it hard to move the football. This
reminds me of that year. So Dante's Karnecki is the
author of those great offensive lines. And then the guy
that they brought out of retirement. He's got his work
cut out for him because they can't keep letting the
forty year old get hit like that. Last thing you like,
I pointed out you called the Saints twenty nothing win
over the Dolphins um and you pointed out that they

(25:54):
have Alvin Kamara is the perfect weapon for Sean Payton Marking.
Marking has become a very good back, and sitting back
there with his helmet and chin strap on is Adrian Peterson.
I feel like they got to trade him like this,
a guy with that much pride, with that much success
in his career, it just it'll end really, really poorly

(26:16):
if he plays out the whole season as the third
running back. What are your thoughts on that mix in?
What a Saints team which I declared dead and now
has life two games later, they have life because the
things you're talking about, and all of a sudden they're
playing defense something we haven't seen in a long time,
and they're they're fast to the bomb doing well. The
Peterson thing, I think I put it out there pretty

(26:38):
well from London, and I'm probably not gonna get invited
to the Peterson family reunion this year, but it's not
a shot at Adrian. It's not a shot at anything
other than he doesn't appear too fit with what New
Orleans wants. Could there be a game down the road,
duck where with the rest of the season, with all
of a sudden we look like and look up and say, hey,
Adrian Peterson looks like the same guy, and how spends

(27:00):
a lot? You have that that burst and it works.
But overall, if you can't pass protect, which is not
his forte, he can, but he's not great at it.
If you can't catch, never been a natural catcher, we
know that you don't fit Sean Payton's offense as far
as I'm concerned. You go back to the Super Bowl
and they had a bunch of guys that are almost nameless, faceless,

(27:20):
but they were all versatile, and Reggie Bush was Alvin
Camara right now. And I'll tell you this my sources
until you know my instincts tell me that if McCaffrey
somehow had made it to New Orleans at eleven or
whatever the pick was, I think Sean would have taken him.
But because he had a pretty good idea he wouldn't
be there. He had scouted around who he wanted to see,

(27:42):
and I think I told the story on there. He
went to the Tennessee Pro Day. Camara wasn't going to
work out his times and everything. We're fine, and Sean said, well,
you know, I'd really like to see what you do
on our offense. And kid said, I hold on, said
let me get my cleats, and he put him through
his paces to see the stuff that he does and
walked away with as he told us a Superman crush
on Alvia Camara. And now you're seeing how he's being deployed.

(28:05):
But I just don't see where Adrian Peterson fits because
he's a heavy volume ball carrier. He gets better after
fifteen to twenty carries. And I don't know that that's
the way that Sean Payton wants to run an offense
in the vasty case. Can Adrian Peterson truly sit there
all year and not get carries and not kick over
the traces. That's a tough one. Go to ex tech

these x tech shoulder pads which Charles Davis uh is

Use the promo code Coach. If you want the latest

I can't wait to hear the call of the Carolina game.

(28:48):
I'm sure they'll be hopefully a lot of football as
well as other discussion on the broadcast. I can't wait
to hear it. Yeah, we're certainly hoping to be nine
percent football, Doug, that's for sure. Thanks a lot. You
take CARRIERSLF. Hope to see all right, brother, that's Charles
Davis joining us on the Doug Gottlip Show. You guys
have that you have? Do you struggle with like we

(29:09):
struggle with being friends with somebody's not good at their job.
I'm not becoming friends with Dan Buyer. One of the
reasons I really like working with Dan Buyer and bring
us what else is going on the world of sports
is that I think he's really good at not just this,
but also his weekend shows. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
Here's how good I am. Do you know what's on
one of the TV's in front of me? Dann Um

(29:31):
Baseball Fast Times at Ridgemont High. They just but Coli
just popped out of a van um a vida van
van And I don't know do you know that we
I bought a Vida van? Well, actually, yes I did,
because you're trying to restore it. Yeah, I'm trying to
restore it. And I just realized that red and orange
is the color of the Spakoli van and that may

(29:53):
have to be the new color scheme of my van.
To see how many people get it. Oh well, that's
a perfect transition, because there's gonna be red and orange
today in Houston the Boston Red Sox, the Red taking
down the orange of the Houston Astros. Game one of
the a lds comes up at the top of the
hour for Sale takes out justin Verland. I mean, how
good is that pitching Sale versus Verlander? And by the way,

(30:14):
Sales going against one of the most prodigious offenses we've
ever seen in baseball, right like the like go look
at the numbers that the Astros have put up across
the board. It has been amazing. That's at for Eastern
Tom on the MLB network, Fox Sports One to Night
has the Yankees and Indians in that game one Sonny
Gray goes up against Trevor Bauer. Is the team's play

(30:35):
in Cleveland National. Um, I was gonna ask you about that. Um,
are you okay with Lebron wearing a Yankees cat? Now? Look,
he's from Akron, but he's never been an Indians fan.
And Terry Francoin actually said for the game, like, I'm
not gonna tell Lebron what he needs to do, but
I actually think would think more of Lebron if he
wore a Yankees cap, Like, look, I've been a Yankees fan. Okay.

(30:57):
I know I grew up in Cleveland, but I was
a Yank He's fan. I'm sorry, I grew up watching
Derek Keta. Um, I grew up liking the Yankees better.
If if I'm advising Lebron and he'll wear an Indian's hat,
I just guarantee this is how it will work. I
was advising him, that's what That's what I would tell
to do. What would you tell him to him? I
think he has the opportunity to go back that's his

(31:19):
home area. I actually cheered for the Astros when I
was a kid. It wasn't wasn't a full blown Brewers
fan until later on in life. So I understand where
Lebron is all all about maybe it was just misguided
when he was younger, I was misguided. Maybe that was
that could have been he was a front runner. He's
like a kid like they won four chimp four or
five championships. So yeah, of course, anyway, go ahead. The

(31:41):
other matchups in Major League Baseball will beginning going tomorrow,
the other divisional series, that is, of course, the Cubs
and Nationals will play Nationals starting Steven Strassburg in that
game one. Dodgers found out last night they get the Diamondbacks.
Some other NFL notes, Dan and Yogurt has drop Panthers
quarterback Cam Newton as a spokesperson for their brand after
comments he made yes today towards a female reporter, Danna

(32:02):
in a statement called Cam's comments quote sexist, sexist, and
disparaging to all women, and quote Patriots and Bucketeers. Tonight
eight five Eastern time. In week five, Bucks running back
Doug Martin returns from a suspension and Gronk is expected
to play. And finally, Doug, I know you're gonna talk
about quarterbacks, but here's a kicker note. Nick Novak is
back with the Chargers. The team wave young Way coup today.

(32:25):
So Nick nobody they wave young wake wu. Yes, I
see that. Let him go. Nick Novak back. He spent
four years with the Chargers when they were in San Diego,
from about you know, twent twelve. Around that time, Lambeau
is he is he was the team cut Lambeau right
before the season. He blew a couple of games last year.
Yeah what what if? Like, uh, what if? What if?

(32:48):
He showed up? Nick Nolvack's like, all y'all, I'll be
over Chargers camp, don't I'll be there in the morning.
And he goes to San Diego. He says, I like,
where is everybody? Like crickets Hey, dude, l A like,
oh yeah, where's the where's the new facility? Coach to Masa.
Got here real real early, real early, Um, fast time,
fast times Ridge a bond. How you a fan? Yes? Yes,

(33:09):
I mean watched a couple of weeks ago he did. Yes,
Um I anyway, am it's it's promis. Did you put
this on? No? I did not. We're having a little
trouble with the old television system in here, so it's
kind of stuck there right now. Uh. That was Sean,
you know, Sean Penn. Obviously, that was just kind of

(33:30):
one of his breakthrough roles early on two, Jennifer, Jason Lee, Jedge,
reinhold Phoebe and of course there's the Phoebe Kate scene
by the pool, right. We're yeah, yeah, we're hoping at
the workplace that maybe it's a different version of the Yeah,
I don't, I don't know, but yeah, they bleeped out
the best parts. Not on HBO. That was I'll just

(33:51):
be honestly like, look, my mom's not listening to this,
and I'm I'm clearly old enough now. That was the
first time I ever saw a woman's breast was in
that show by It was like, yeah, but that John Gez,
you know, the science teacher who's so uh strange looking?
What is his there's a lot rember Forest Whittaker. What

(34:13):
was the what was the role Force Whittaker player? Where
he was the he was the football player? Uh and
they they they trashed his car and they made it
out that the rival rival school trash his car, right
and he yeah, fast times Ridgemond High playing right now
on a network that we don't actually know the dramas.
Can't control the is saying he can't control the TV.

(34:34):
Only it's right on the TV right in front of me. Um,
I got for you this the quotes from Brandon Whedon,
who actually who is is a like a friend of
mine full disclosure, we are friends and he's The Titans
are catching some heat because they signed Brandon Weeden and
didn't even work out Colin Kaepernick, and I actually think

(34:56):
that the weeding thing is there's a there's a Kaepernick
to Weeden kind of comparison, which is really interesting. We'll
get to that. Plus, guess who's the next team to
be investigated for cheating? I'll tell you next what True Car.
You can find out what other people in your area
paid for the same car you're looking for, new or used.

(35:18):
Visit True Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience.
Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. I think we're a
little trouble with our computers. Is that right? Was the
don't usually go with the music? Or can I not
hear the music? That's ah, there you go. It's like
rama's usually spinning the ones in twos? Could I just

(35:40):
not hear it? Or what did you just not the button?
Was the button button was depressed incorrectly? Doug, Okay, I
wasn't honestly, Rama's I was not trying to call out
your error. I thought it was I was I thought like,
sometimes you think you're losing your mind. Right, all you
guys are like, what are you talking about? I could
hear like I couldn't actually couldn't actually here eight seven

(36:01):
six six nine. You know what I do find interesting
is in the Brandon Wheedon stinks. So you should have
signed h Colin Kaepernick. Right, That's that's the whole thing
about Brandon Weed. He thinks you should you should have
signed Colin Kaepernick. Argument is, what is the what is
the main argument against Brandon wheed ramost you want to

(36:25):
hop in on this? What's the main argument against other
than suck it's not mobile enough? Uh okay, I would say,
like me personally, I would say it's he and one. Right, Well,
I mean in the NFL, I his his win loss
record is uh six and nineteen six and nineteen yeah right,

(36:46):
But I mean, look, if you look at Colin Kaepernick's
record over the past two years as a starter, it's
equally terrible. It's equally terrible. So you know I get that,
uh that people want Colin Kaepernick like, well, he can

(37:08):
run he can move, he can throw. Like Colin Kaepernick's
last two years as a starter, he was three and sixteen,
three and sixteen. I can't make any of that up.
And so you're sitting there going like, well, you know,
he had sixteen touchdowns and four interceptions like they were
one in ten, So how impactful was he? Really? He

(37:30):
was a below sixty percent pastor. That's who he is.
He's not an accurate pastor, as opposed to Weeden, who
during his year, you know when he started a couple
of games at the Cowboys completion last year, started one game,
played a game with the with the Texans, uh sixty completions,

(37:51):
So we look, he wasn't great with Cleveland. Who has
been good with who is good with Cleveland? Those teams,
those teams sucked and they didn't want to start in
right away. But if your argument for Kaepernick against Brandon
Weeden is his teams don't win, then just look at
Colin kaepern the last two years and his teams don't win,

(38:13):
like well, he went to super Bow, Like, yeah, that
was a team Alex Smith took to the NFC Championship game,
and they got progressively worse after that initial year as
people start to figure out Kaepernick, we're not We're not
remembering the same things. Let's get to a game bag.
This is game ties on the Doug Gottlieb Show. M

(38:41):
what do you got from me? Damn buyer? Today we
have got okay, Doug guess who was a wild card
of the baseball playoffs and are now being investigated for
using an Apple Watch earlier this week? Uh? Apple watch
early this week. Of course, the bread Sox were busted.
Let's go h din in Backs. Yeah, this is the

(39:01):
Arizona Diamondbacks, the New York Post saying the league is
investigating why Arizona coach an interpreter Arial Prizo was wearing
an Apple watching the dugout of last night's wild card
game against the Colorado Rockies. All I can tell you
is I have an Apple watching and I love it.
Uh a matter of fact that I left it at
the Fox studios and a friend of mine picked it
up and like this, How what do you think of
the Apple Watch? It's incredibly cool, functional watch. The new

(39:24):
Apple Watch is supposed even sicker because you don't even
need the phone, right, don't even do the phone. It's amazing.
You can do the kit car thing and you speak
into it. I love that thing anyway. I mean that
there's your defense. Why are you wearing Apple Watch because
it's awesome? Next question, like they don't have clocks in
the stadiums, you know what he needs watch stuff. But

(39:45):
you can also return your text messages, you can search
the web, you can list of music. Um, there's all
different kinds of alarms. Uh. It can count your steps,
you know, like you know, if you're one of those
heavy set managers, you know, with a big uh, with
your gut hanging over over you know, over your groin area.
You know you want to count your steps. You can
do that, make sure you get your daily steps in.

(40:06):
And more than just keeping time anything and keep time.
You can watch just what right twice a day. How
about just for those three innings not wear anything or
if you need it, just go back into the clubhouse.
That could also work as well. Yeah, I think that
would be a good solution. Guess who dug in college
football is gonna honor Tom Petty at their game on
Saturday by playing I won't back down after the third

(40:29):
quarter of their home game, UM, University of Florida. Yes,
that is correct. Petty born and raised in Gainesville. On
the he'll be honored as the Gators host the l
s U Tigers. I don't know if it will become
a tradition, maybe after this, but they will do it
this Saturday after the third quarter. Um, sister Hazel, I

(40:49):
didn't know he was he was a big game. I
don't know he's from Gainesville, Sister Hazel. To this up
A Diller's point was the biggest musical act. I remember
being out of Gainesville right, Uh, just say what it
is seeing you and remember then yes, yeah, no, I
got it. Finally, guests who on the crew Doug once

(41:11):
game gave a guy twenty dollars for gas at a
gas station and then chased him down when he realized
the guy condom yes, conned him, not condom him. Wow,
we should end this segment right now. I'm gonna go
to Ramas. No, No, it was actually me. It was
just up the street and gave the guy at twenty
told me he was out of gas, and then I
saw him walking away down the street. So I turned around,

(41:33):
pulled to you and said, hey, give me my twenty
bucks back. Did you get um? He gave me about fourteen.
This is game time on the Dug Gottlieb Show. Happened
to me a young woman. She said she ran out
of gas. How important is tonight's game for the Patriots.
I'll tell you next in the Doug Gotlip Show. One up,

(41:59):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Mm hmmm, Chris Sale.
Justin Verlander about to take the bump in Houston. Um,
it should be fun, right, Red Sox versus the Astros.

(42:20):
Last time the Astros for the playoffs, they choked it
to the Kansas City Royals. Remember that that was choked up? Um,
And the Astros went out and made a play and
got Justin Verlander. And Verlander has been unbelievable since he's
come over. Unbelievable. And of course the Red Sox went

(42:41):
out in the off season and got Chris Sale, and
Chris Sale has been pretty amazing as well. Uh So,
in case you're just joining us, the Astros are no
longer in the National League. That's like five six years
running now, right, And this is the first year Ramos,
isn't this the first year they took the hill out
of center field in Houston. So they just have a
regular set. It's the first year, but it is gone.

(43:03):
You're right. Can we have a little research done on that?
We have an intern here, I mean she did a
little research. Has to Dan buy or this the first
year out the hill in it? Yeah, it's first year
that they did it because they were actually doing the
work during the Super Bowl taking out the hill. Yeah,
so that media night, um where Ryan Music and I
rocked a minute made parks that evening. Yeah, there was

(43:25):
construction still going on. So I believe this is the
first year. How much constructions needed just like take out
the hill? Right? Like just they did some other like
get a back home and dig that sucker up, yea,
lay down some side, put the fake grass in there,
and a couple of rocks speakers, and they were good.
I think they did some seating stuff back there as well,
in that back corner. Ah, that sounds that sounds that

(43:45):
sounds better. That sounds more likely or I don't know,
more interesting. Um, did you like the hill? Are you?
Are you sad to see the hill gone? I am sad?
Why because that's one of the great things about baseball
parks is they're all unique. I didn't certainly like the
flagpole in play. I thought that that was a little odd,
but I didn't. But but but a hill is so

(44:07):
totally okay. Flagpole too much, hill, not too much? Damn
buyer one oh one. I look, I agree with you
in that. It's like it's like when you go to
somebody else's park, you're like, all right, like, here's the
here's the rules. And I do I think that's one
of the things that makes base like you said bigs
baseball unique, like nobody. You don't have that in basketball,
Like all the courts are exactly the same. The markings
may be different, exact same football the exact same um

(44:32):
and baseball did give it. But that one felt like
it was two manufactured that that that would be my point, right,
like the uh where baseball has all these rules. You
know what's a home run, what's not. There's a yellow line,
if you hit it over, it's a home run, if
you hit it under, or the different dimensions, which takes
us all the way back to uh Evans. You know

(44:54):
the Polo grounds which had that super super deep center field,
and the players used to get dressed up. They had
to walk down from the dressing rooms are way behind it.
My dadd used to tell me about the Polo grounds
because he grew up in the Bronx anyway, UM, I
think that is different than hey, let's put a hill
in center field and then put a flagpole right there.

(45:15):
That just it felt too many. It felt like, um it,
it felt like when you go to those uh, those
neighborhoods to where it's like, you know street street street,
all our cul de Sacs Park, you know school street streets.
And I know they're terribly safe and they're wonderful to
live in, and it's a gated community or whatever. It

(45:38):
just seems too planned out to plan. Tonight, we also
have Thursday night football. This is gonna be kind of interesting. Um,
football almost always dominates the rating, always not almost always
always dominates the ratings, but this one's interesting. Okay, So
football is gonna get a big number because the Patriots

(45:59):
because it's on big CBS, isn't it so tonight it's
on big CBS, I believe, Uh, Patriots taken on the Broncos.
And while the game is important, did say Broncos? My goodness,
I apologize, Uh, the Patriots. That would be a big
game that would definitely outrate baseball taken on the Buccaneers.

(46:22):
And while the game, it is important to the Patriots,
right you don't want to be two and three below
five in the month of October. That not a good thing.
Remember that their division may look tougher right now with
the Jets that they played next, the Bills at two
and two, the Bills at three and one, But the
Dolphins stink. They just do um all the teams in

(46:46):
which they've played record wise or good teams, and with
home and homes with the Jets, home and home with Miami,
home and home with Buffalo, a division that they've dominated,
it stands to reason and stands to reason that the
Patriots are still going to be in pretty good shape.

(47:06):
They gotta figure out their defense. I kind of think
tonight's game is bigger for the for the Tampa Buccaneers.
Now they go to Arizona take on the Cardinals next,
who are so so. Then they go to Buffalo take
on the Bills, who appeared to be good at this
point in time, and you never know what the weather
will be. The bucko is still the Buccaneers still have

(47:27):
not played anybody in their division either, and their division
looks very difficult. Carolina at three and one Atlanta three
and one. There two and one. Remember they missed a
game with Miami because of the hurricane, and the New
Orleans Staints have been resuss stated to two and two.
But more than anything, you get the Patriots not knowing

(47:49):
exactly who they are. They can't protect Tom Brady and
they can't stop the pass, and they can't pressure the
quarterback and they're on the road. Then they had a
short week to fix it. Outside of that, Mrs Lincoln,
how is the show right? Like you're never unless and
uh Gronk's gonna play was listed on the injury list.
The only thing that could keep make them better is

(48:09):
if Rob Gronkowski was hurt and you're like, you're you're
just not going to get a better shot to beat
the Patriots. Get to get to three and one and
make the world play catch up, as you put yourself.
I think tonight's game is bigger for the Buccaneers, but
equally fascinating will be Look, it's Fox Sports One is

(48:31):
not the yet the cable network that you automatically tuned
to for a game, but it is the Yankees. It
is the Indians. Indians not a huge draw, but they
were in Game seven of the World Series, and they
are the best They are the best team in the
American League. I still think it does a pretty good number.

(48:53):
Won't do the number that ESPN did on that against
no competition a couple of nights ago. But um wait,
thurs Night's gonna be super competitive tonight with baseball. There
is college football tonight as well. Uh and it's a
college football game with two ranked teams, Louisville and NC State.
Did you like, did you even know that's going on?

(49:14):
Weird one? Right, You've got a lot of stuff going on.
So I think is it paramount for New England to win?
I think I think it's important to win. I think
it would help them if they won. But the idea
that they're going to fix their defense in short order,
Like for the Tampa Buccaneers, this is one of those

(49:36):
you will be judged completely differently. And both teams obviously
get to get the benefit of the extra week to prepare,
and that extra kind of prepare for the Arizona Cardinals
and a road game is huge, huge for the Buccaneers.
And remember the Cardinals are coming off a game which
they play the Eagles on Sunday, so long and longer

(49:57):
time to prepare against the team in the Cardinals, Studs
two and two probably gonna be two and three licking
their wounds coming off of a coming off of a loss.
I don't know. I feel like the Night's game to me,
says it's more about the Buccaneers and is about the Paths,
because the Paths, though they have things to fix, they
still have Brady, they have Gronk, they have pieces in place,

(50:19):
and if they can, if Stephan Gilmore can figure out
what they're gonna do. Alright, so we've gone from starting
pitching disasters the past two nights too, you would be
you would be more surprised if Verlander or Sale came
out before the sixth than if they went the distance. Right,

(50:42):
Verlander's numbers since coming over are scene obscene fifteen and three.
Obviously the are a little bit higher two point three
point three six opponents sitting just to one against it.
But Verlonard kind of reminds me of when um when

(51:03):
the Astros went out and got Randy Johnson, or then
they went out and got Randy Johns traded for Randy
Johnson for the stretch run. R J. Bell joins the
show up coming next, we'll get his five biggest thoughts
on his five biggest plays. Getting you ready for an
NFL weekend. That's next to the Doug Gottlip Show, Fox
Sports Radio. At Farmers we know a thing or two

(51:27):
because we've seen a thing or two like how to helps,
so you can make sure you're ready for some of
life's unexpected hazards. Stay ahead of the game with tips
from a knowledgeable pro. At Farmers dot com. We are
all right. Let's um, I got a couple of quick
stories for you for r J Bell joins us. Uh.

(51:48):
We have an injury already already for the Boston Red
Sox taken on the Houston Astros. Let's bring in Dan Buyer, Um,
Dan Dan? Was that? Was that EDWARDO Nuniez. Yeah, EDWARDO Nuniez,
who's been having knee injuries and in fact, there was
no given that he was even gonna make the Divisional
Series roster. Ended up batting second today. D h NG

(52:13):
had a knee issue, hit a groundball and right out
of the gate, stepped out of the batter's box and
started to have a heavy limp and then kind of
collapsed near first base just because of the pain needed
to be carried off by John Farrell and a Red
Sox trainer, Hanley Ramirez was an option to d h Um.
Nuniez also gave them depth in the infield and could
have played there the series. But now I think I'd

(52:33):
be surprised if we saw him again, just because of
the It was a swing dug and then the first
step he took. He took part in a simulated game
on Monday, and they said that he felt no pain
at all, but just at bats during that time, and
once he started to run, it just kind of gave Yeah.
It's interesting. But about Hanley Ramirez, you know, Edward Nuniez,
since coming up from the San Francisco Giants, really hit well,

(52:55):
hit in three one on base already five percent of
the time, eight home runs. UH had been super, super productive.
But now the what where it kills you is do
I keep him on the roster and play him? Do
I not keep him on the roster? Well, you can't,
Now you can't. I don't know if you can make
I don't know if you can make an addition to
the roster. Can you because of the hand, But then
that player is not eligible to return. So they could

(53:18):
take him off of this roster and then there's he
would not be able to come back, all right, So
that's it's that not terribly surprising because he had been
dealing with a knee issue. Uh here, this also is
not terribly surprising. Carlos Newsman was arrested by Brazil's federal

(53:38):
police on charges of corruption. Who is Carlos Nusman. He
was apparently the head of the Olympic committee when Brazil
got the Olympics, right like this is this happens everywhere.
It seems like, make some huge bid to get the Olympics,
and then you get the Olympics, things go, Things do

(53:59):
not according to plan. They don't have nearly as many
people as they were told they would have. As soon
as the Olympics leave town, you have all these empty
buildings or stadiums that are going unused, and there's an
arrest because somebody took money from the IOC. So I

(54:20):
think it's uh, I think it's interesting, like by the
way Brazil had in back to back years, like Brazil
wasn't even being It's kind of like when old Miss
before Old Miss got caught cheating in in in the
sec like don't have the number one recruiting class in
back to back years when you're at old Miss. There's
just too obvious. And in back to back years to

(54:41):
have the World Cup and the Olympics both come to
Rio de Janeiro both come to Brazil. Oh yeah, by
the way, you have the worst crime rate in the
free world. So Newsman was allegedly involved in an operation
to buy votes during Rio's bid to host the Olympic

(55:02):
Games in two thousand and sixteen. The investigation code named
unfair play was that was that's a that's a very
unsexy name. Also targeted the general director of operations for
Rio two thousand sixteen, Leonardo Griner, who was arrested. According
to Agency A Brazil, both bends being indicted on corruption,

(55:24):
money lautering and organized crime. So this goes all the
way back to two thousand nineteen, and they were the
first South American country to host the Olympics. Like, oh no,
we just happened to get the Olympics and World Cup
back to back years, even though we don't have the
infrastructure to support it. Yeah yeah, no, I'm listening. We
built that stadium in the middle of rainforest. We're gonna

(55:47):
build one anyway. We just got it because they love
Rio and the beaches of Rio and the Disney film Rio.
They even like that Dancing Birds. How could we go
wrong or perruption charts? So let's take your Las Vegas showing,

(56:12):
like give my money, right? Are you tired of losing
money every week? Do you want to be in the know? Well,
we might not know, but Vegas always knows. All right,
let's take it to Vegas. Strand of Vegas is the

(56:34):
radio show that r J Bell hosts on Fox Sports
Radio Friday and Saturday nights. Of course, you gonna pregame
dot com. That's his website as well as r J
picks out for us five very interesting NFL lines. R
J let's um. Uh, let's uh. Let's start with tonight,
the Pat's taken on the Buccaneers. Pat's coming off their

(56:57):
second home loss of the year on a short week,
traveling to take on the Tampa Buccaneers, and they're five
and a half point favorites. This has to be just
because of the Patriots. Are the favorites? Yeah, you know,
some of it is the Pats and the respect that
we all have for Belichick and Brady to come back
from difficult times. It wasn't that long ago that they

(57:19):
lost that Monday night game to Kansas City a couple
of years ago, and oh, this team's done right, and
we saw what happened from there. Here's two stats though
probably the or trends, probably the two most amazing trends
of the week. Belichick off a loss forty three and
seven straight up thirty six, thirteen and one against the spread,

(57:44):
forty three and seven after they lose a game, So
that's getting obviously Patriots support. And here's another amazing stat.
The Patriots on the road favored by more than four points,
So there are a clear would favorite by you know,
more than four a lot of times. That's the trap
game motivational questions. Forty seven and four straight up thirty

(58:10):
eighteen and three against the spread, So this is on
the road, is a clear favorite, a great spot off
a loss of great spot trend wise certainly pointing to
the paths. So you like the Pets, ah, I tell you,
if you look at this defense net yards or yards
per play given up over seven yards per play, no

(58:31):
team in NFL history has ever given that out for
a season. So for me, you could make the case.
The Pats are playing truly historically bad defense on a
short week is not the time I think Belichick can
get involved and really changed things. So I would expect
bad defense this week. So if you do bet the Pats,
maybe parlay with the over because there's a correlation. I

(58:54):
think if the Pats cover, it's probably a high scoring game.
And I would look for the Pats day to improve
a lot after the ten day break because Belichick will
have a chance to step in. That's r J Bell,
Pregame dot Com or Straight in the Vegas is the
radio show he joins us in the Doug Gotlip Show
at r J in Vegas. Is his Twitter handle um
And now all of a sudden that Cam Newton is

(59:15):
a part of a swirling controversy over how he how
he treated a female reporter yesterday. This coming off his
best performance by far of the year in a road
win over the Patriots, they take on the Lions, who
were I think less than impressive, but they did win
in Minnesota. Lions only a two and a half point
favorite at home. Give me some of the interesting trends

(59:36):
in this one. Here's what's in trying you know, I've
seen three more than two and a half. So but
but it's probably moving down, So two and a half
might be where we're headed in most spots. I am
very skeptical of Cam. If you have four games and
three let's say average or below games, and one good game,

(59:57):
and the one good game is against the worst def
nts in the league, that we just talked about, a
historically bad defense, what do you believe I believe the
other three games? Now? People I respect feel otherwise. They're
saying Cam only through two passes the entire preseason. Thus
he had rusted and the reason he was so inactive
in the preseason was a type of some injuries. Now

(01:00:21):
those are gone all right? Maybe, but does that happen
all at once or is it the defense of the Patriots?
So I am in disagreement Doug, with a lot of
other professionals here. I think a lot of um support
and and appreciation for this Carolina team in Vegas. I'm
in the minority. I want to see one more game. Now.

(01:00:44):
I'm not a big fan of the Lions. I mean,
this Lions team has won so many close games, and
when you win so many close games, what happens is
your record gets inflated. People over emphasize your record. Yet
record matters, but it's seemed like the Chargers right is
own four but they're certainly, at least in the eyes

(01:01:05):
of Vegas, no worse than an average team. Sometimes records
can be deceiving. The Jets are two and two, but
they're certainly not an average team. There below average. So
I think Detroit's benefited from a lot of close losses,
which leads them to be overrated. So I'm gonna stay away.
On one hand, I think Detroit's overrated. On the other hand,
I think Carolina I still have a lot of skepticism.

(01:01:27):
Doug Gotlive show Fox Sports Trader, that's the voice of
r J Bell Packers travling to take on the Cowboys.
Packs have been dealing with a ton of injuries, but
they haven't played since a week ago today, that's Thursday,
of course, against the Bengals. Taking on the Cowboys, you're
licking their wounds following a home loss to the l A.
Rams Cowboys a two point home favorite. Uh, this is

(01:01:49):
the first time we've really seen Dak Prescott and Zeke
Elliott have to deal with an immense amount of pressure
to get a home win. What are your set? What's
your sense to this one? You know, one of my
favorite sayings is every spread tells a story. Now, the
Cowboys have a blow average home field, so let's say
that the home field is two and a half. It's

(01:02:09):
as a fair assessment of the Cowboys. So really, this
market is telling us these are even teams. I think
most people would think green Bay is the better team here,
So I think this is showing disrespect for green Bay
this line and respect for Dallas. But I'm not sure
that it's wrong. I think it's probably right because if

(01:02:30):
you look at green Bay since two thousand twelve, a
lot of good years twelve, sixteen, a lot of good
years in there on the road all games below. Straight up,
they've lost more games on the road than they've won
during these really good seasons. There's more disparity between green

(01:02:50):
Bay home in a way than any team except maybe Seattle,
and those two are at the top. And it's not
a coincidence because the best to home field of images
in the NFL are Seattle and green Bay. And if
you're really dominant at home, you tend to be overrated
on the road because your stats at home are blended

(01:03:11):
into your overall stats, and that big advantage at home
makes you overrated on the road. So I would probably
lean towards Dallas here. Seahawks offensive line has been an issue,
but they found ways to win games traveling to take
on the Rams. Who suddenly now with the Darlins of
the NFL, Rams only a point and a half favorite
over a team that, even without quality quarterback play, they've
been able to beat in recent years. It feels like

(01:03:33):
the Rams should be bigger favorites. Really, wow, well this
baby's down to pick him in some spots now, so
the money has been on Seattle. Here's the question. Do
you believe the first four games or do you believe
expectations coming in now? Listen, Colin, I was on set
with him in July. I was laughing at him over

(01:03:55):
him liking the Rams so much. So let's be clear
I was wrong about the Ms. They are much better
than people think or thought coming in the year, but
are they really this good? And to me, whenever you
have a short sample size that goes against the logic
coming into the season only the four games, I think
you've got to be skeptical or that. And this goes

(01:04:17):
in both directions. Seattle is playing so much worse than expected,
the Rams are playing so much better. I mean, let
me ask you, Doug, I respect your NFL opinion at toime,
do you think both of them are this extremely different
than we expected? Um? Well, I mean, like, look, I
think the Rams have been helped out by a little
bit of a soft schedule, right, Um, I think that's

(01:04:38):
part of it. But yeah, like the and and I
know that they were thought to be talented, but to
to go into Dallas and win, to play as well
as they played, Granted San Francisco is not good, but
they played really well offensively, probably should have beaten the Skins. Yeah,
I think the Rams are pretty surprising. I don't. I
don't think it's surprising that Seattle is off to a

(01:05:00):
low start, but I do think it's surprising how slow
a start they've been off too. And I think that
old line until we see differently, is a major concern.
And I think the second half of that game against
the Coats, it's hard to give too much stock in that.
I think people are gonna look at that scoreboard and
say Seattle's back. And I don't think that half of

(01:05:21):
football really says that necessarily, So I'm skeptical of the Rams,
but if I was forced to play this game, I
would lean Rams. Chiefs Texans last one. Deshaun Watson and
the Texans put up fifty seven last time around. Chiefs
are thought to be the best team in the NFL
better usually at home. Uh, Texans a one point home
dog to the Chiefs. Um and you know you have

(01:05:44):
a super athletic but very young quarterback going against this
Chief's defense. Yeah, so this is very I think telling
about Vegas is people listening said, oh r J has
been you know, kinda half there. Half their all for
these games doesn't mean like anything. Well, guys usually like
about three picks a week professional level batters. This is

(01:06:05):
one of the five. So this is it. I love
Houston here, I've already beat it. Love them. Think about
Kansas City. They have so many scenarios that's led them
to be overrated. You've got that zero the only undefeated
team people reacted at. They have maybe the most iconic
win of the year, beating the Patriots that first Thursday game. Also,

(01:06:28):
they just one in front of the world on Monday
Night football and they covered the spread in a miracle fashion.
Everyone feels so good about it. That's why there's so
much love for Casey. You look at this Houston team,
a very very good defense. The big question has been quarterback.
Now we have a quarterback that looks to be this

(01:06:48):
year's Dak Prescott, and you've got a crowded home for
a night game that you know is gonna be super enthused.
Casey could be a little bit flat. I think one
of the best bets of the week Houston get points
at home. That's r J Bell. Check out his radio
show Straight Out of Vegas on Fox Sports Trado on
Friday and Saturday nights. Of course, go to his Twitter
handle at r J in Vegas. That's where he updates

(01:07:10):

four and a half and the Patriots moving down seven
and a half. Or you can go to pregame dot
Com his website r J Great Stuff. Always appreciate having
you on. Thank you all right, that's r J Bell.
We have fireworks in Houston. Let's get you caught up
with what's going on. Remember the a l DS in

(01:07:31):
Houston underway? Um Chris Sales first start in the postseason,
Dan buy or not going so well? Back to back
home runs for the Astros in the bottom of the
first inning, Alex Bregman at the first solo home run
and then Jose l To followed after that to nothing strows.
As they head to the top of the second, it
is Chris Sale on the mond for Boston. Justin Verlander

(01:07:54):
made it through the first inning for Houston with no
problem as he got the start for the Strokes today.
That's how the mL BE network. By the way, Tonight
on Fox Sports One, Yankees and Indians will play at
seven thirty Eastern time. Sonny Gray goes up against Trevor
Bauer and that game one of the best of five series.
National indivisional series get going tomorrow. NAT's picture Steven Strassburg's
gonna get the start against the Cubs in Game one.

(01:08:16):
Geo Gonzalez has been named Washington starter four Game two.
Some news from the NFL as tonight Week five begins
Patriots and Bucketeers eight twenty five Eastern time. Buck's running
back Doug Martin will return from a suspension that cost
him the first three games of this season and a
game a year ago, while Patriots tended Rob Bronkowski is
expected to play despite a thigh injury. Giants defensive ad

(01:08:36):
Jason Pierre Palm is practice again today because of a
shoulder issue. Kicker Nick Novak back with the Chargers as
the team waived young Way to today, and Doug some
good news for the Vikings, Sam Bradford back on the
practice field after missing the last three weeks with knee issues.
That NFC North, you've got the Vikings, You've got the Lions.
Of course, the Vikings faced the Bears on Monday night,

(01:08:57):
and of course Green Bay Packers with a big game
coming up Sunday against Dallas. I was just treating tweeting
this out. Do you do you think this was wrong?
I don't know. You you tell me. Um, let's see
here Boston versus Houston, right, Um, Nunias just run the
first basis actually actually went better than Chris Sales first

(01:09:19):
hitting a postseason pitching. Oh, that's that's pretty good. I
think that's good. Yes, I did. I I said it
just as I said. And in case you don't know, uh,
Carlos Juniez, who's who was d ching for the Red Sox,
hit a groundball and he wasn't expected to play or
he had knee injuries, knee issues. He collapsed upon running

(01:09:39):
the first base. My point was Chris Tale's first inning
had back to back home runs. So uh and anyway,
it was a funny. It was a funny. You laughed,
you smiled. Uh. Alright, So I'm fascinated by this Cowboys

(01:10:01):
game here, as we talked about with r. J. Bel
Cowboys taking on the Packers. This is a rematch of
two games that were played last year. Packers lost to
the Cowboys in the regular season, beat the Cowboys in
the postseason. And the Packers have had all kinds of

(01:10:22):
injury issues. The Cowboys just haven't been that good. And
you know, there's that Mike Tyson expression. Everybody has. Everybody
has a plan until they get punched in the face. Right.
That's kind of what the Cowboys have in front of them, right.
I thought this was interesting from Ezekie Elliott. We're taking
a little bit longer to progress this year, and I

(01:10:44):
don't really think that's a bad thing. You'd rather be
hitting your stride midseason than peaking early, you know what
I mean. As long as you hit your peak, it
doesn't really matter how long it takes you. It could
take you six games in this leg and still go
to the playoffs. As long as you hit your strides
right time, then you're good. There's no panic in this
locker room. So I think what people are trying to

(01:11:06):
how they're trying to spin it is, hey, last year,
we peaked too early and that's why we lost to
the to the Packers. Peaked too early. Um, the peaked
too early thing is just dumb. It is dumb, don't
get me wrong. Like I'm somebody who said I can't
City playing well now doesn't mean Kansas City will won't

(01:11:27):
play well later. I just think there's some fundamental flaws
to the Dallas Cowboys which are flaws now and be
flaws later. Like I don't remember them saying we peaked
too early when we we hadn't peaked yet, when their
defense was living in the Giants backfield or living in
the Cardinals backfield. But the fact was that they could

(01:11:50):
not run the football against the Denver Broncos on the road.
That didn't go well, I just didn't and they and
they could not stop Tom Todd Gurley, Todd Gurley either
catching it or Todd Gurley running it. Really, really the
story seven can they They've had seven field, goals given
given up, and so some of it's a perfect storm

(01:12:13):
for the Rams to come in and the Cowboys. Uh,
the Cowboys, you know, you're playing on the road in
that dome zerline, the best kicker in the league, you
got the best punter in the league, and you just
put yourself a position that the trail in the in
the first half, come back, take the lead, and then
never relinquish it. Like some of that stuff kind of
worked out in their favor. But the truth is that

(01:12:34):
the schedule is more difficult this year for the Dallas Cowboys.
Last year, remember they played a soft schedule. They were
in the last place when Tony Romo was hurt, and
they went through a couple of different quarterbacks in the year.
This year, they're playing a first place schedule plus to
the Cowboys, so they play a lot of prime time
Premier games. After this, they go to the San Francisco

(01:12:55):
take on the forty Niners. That's a team you're expected
to beat. But then they got a Washington take on
the Redskins. Are pretty good. They got the Chiefs at home,
who right now the best team in football. Have to
go to Atlanta take on the Falcons. I know they
lost at home, but they didn't have some new and
didn't have Julio Jones. They still have to go to
Oakland take on the Raiders, and by the time they

(01:13:16):
do so, and uh, and they get the Seahawks at home.
By the time they take on the Raiders, you'd expect
Derek car to be back. So I think some of
it is they're not peaking. Some of it is Dez
Bryant isn't a isn't a top five wide receiver anymore.
Some of it is their schedule is more difficult, and
some of it is that this is the first time

(01:13:37):
they've really faced legitimate adversity as a backfield towsome in
dak Prescott ze Gellett, How do you pick a franchise quarterback?
Colin Calhern has a theory. See if I agree or
disagree that up coming next, what True Car? You can
find out what other people in your area paid for

(01:13:58):
the same car you're looking for, new or used. Visit
True Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience. Doug
Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. There's arguing and replays going
on in baseball. I was preparing for this segment. Uh,
maybe Dan was Dan Buyer watching? Can he tell us

(01:14:18):
exactly what's gone? He was not watching. He's doing other stuff.
All you'll find out the top of the hour. But
the Red Sox have scored a run while Dustin mcdory
appears to have been tagged out at third base. Um,
there's some sort of arguing. I don't know why they're arguing,
but he was out upon for the review, but trying

(01:14:39):
to see if the run is going to count because
the run was scored before he was tagged out at
their base. But I don't know why why there was
two outs on the play at that there was two
outs of the time, it should have been two outsh anyway,
Pablo Sandoval with the single. Anything Pablo Sandaval hits outside

(01:15:02):
of a home run is in fact single. That's not
Pablo Sandaval. I forgot. He went back to the giants.
That dude looked just like Pablo Sandoval. Who's that fat dude?
Who's that fat dude? But I mean, you don't know,
you guys like, that's not Pablo Sanding. But we'll tell
me who the fat dude is. The hell's Dan Buyer.

(01:15:22):
We need him, Buyer, Buyer. This is unbelievable. Tell me
he didn't look like Pablo Sanaval. Dude, he's left handed
with a beard. He looked looked exactly like Panda. That
was trippy. That was really really trippy. Uh was that

(01:15:42):
Leone the the Catcher? I think that was Leon the Catcher?
This is great radio. Let's play what to the fun?
Yeah it wasn't Leon. Let's it is Sandy Leone, who's
um He's listed five tive, he's running a good two
fort right now. He's also Venezuelan, so though I don't

(01:16:03):
Pablo is not Venezuelan though, right, Paul Pablos from the
d R but still, I mean from Latin America. Like
we're kind of close to both left handed, I mean,
and their swings look exactly the same. Polos in it
all from Venezuela too, Like like they're both left handed,

(01:16:25):
they both have beards, they're both fat. They at one
point in time, Pablo played for the Red Sox this year,
right was it this year? Last year? Last year? He
was last year that was a big story, lost all
this weight and he goes back and by the way,
the Giants were so bad this year. I don't know
if he's part of the correla correlation, but he looked

(01:16:45):
exactly like him. My bad. All right, what's what are
we playing? Oh yeah? This is what Colin Cowherd had
to say earlier today about finding a franchise quarterback. I'm
not anti analytic, but I will tell you quarterback is
not a but I will tell so the analytic guys
come in, and I'm not anti analytic, but I will
tell you quarterback is not an antalytic position. It's a

(01:17:10):
man analytic position. I am for analytics in hockey, I'm
for analytics in baseball. I'm for generally analytics and basketball,
and I do think analytics in football work to a point,
but quarterback is different. Okay, Tom Brady had an awful
body and ran like an accountant at his combine best

(01:17:34):
quarterback of all time. So that that's this argument that
because Tom Brady couldn't run, that analytics are wrong. You know,
analytics had nothing to do with running, right right, Yeah,
we got that. I agree that that, like the analytics
in football are still very much in the formative stages,
they just are. Melvin Gordon I was told that the

(01:17:57):
then San Diego now l A Chargers, like Tid Melvin
Gordon because the analytics told told them he was the
best back in the draft. Now, what what isn't going
to be said about Melvin Gordon is he's had he
had a good year and then he had microfracture surgery
in his knee. So maybe he's a lot better than
he's played, But because he's coming off microfracture surgery in

(01:18:18):
his knee, he's not nearly as explosive as he should be.
That would be totally fair. But the point that I
made in discussing with some of the Chargers guys the
analytics stuff was isn't that kind of like really new, really,
Like the data does not seem like it's had a
long time to collect, Like, No, it's kind of been
around a while, and we're paying a lot more attention

(01:18:39):
to it now. So I would generally agree with Colin that, uh,
not not that analytics can't be used, but that it's
very very new. It really hard to compare offenses, uh
route comminent, Like sometimes the eye test is in fact
the best. Sometimes old school scouting is all you really
really need. Um. But I also think that let's not

(01:19:06):
just shy away from the use of analytics, use it
just like you do in basketball, just like you do
in baseball. Not the end all be all, by the way. Um,
most of these Boston Red Sox were selected in the
Major League Baseball Draft by Theo's group, who use a
heavy dose of analytics, just like the Cubs. Uh that

(01:19:28):
they've selected heavy dose of analytics. The quarterback thing is
hard because college systems are not pro systems, and so
the throws they make, the reeds they make, or even
just the idea of going over to the sidelock looking
over to the sideline to get the right play call
in you don't have that when you're in the NFL.

(01:19:48):
So many things are completely different. It's hard to use analytics.
All right, do we figure out exactly what happened there?
So the run did score? Dustin Matroit got own out
trying to stretch up, trying to use on first, try
to go from first to third on a single from
Sandy Leone with two outs, But the run had already scored,

(01:20:12):
So the Red Sox played a run. Remember in baseball,
if it's a force out on the third out, uh,
then the run doesn't count. Otherwise it's if the run
has crossed runs crossed home and Chris Sale is just
getting rocked, just getting rocked. Gave up back to back

(01:20:32):
home runs in the first inning, starts the second thing
out giving up a single, Yes, Ramas And they always always,
they always say never make the first or third out
at third base, But yet nobody ever follows those rules, right, yea,
It is supposed to be like super smart, savant baseball player,
former m v P. He's a wily veteran. Oh he's

(01:20:52):
a Red Sox. He's got a beard, so he's gotta
be awesome. Yeah, should not make that third out at
third base? But now is that that was probably base
coaching er too. Here's the other thing about descon Madroy.
He's not fast. Do you think I think you would
think like, not only is he not not is he's small,
but he's also not fast, Like he's one of the
all time upsets? Isn't me all timers? He's small and slow.

(01:21:21):
Outside of that, he's awesome. How how did he even
make it? When when you say it like that, it's
crazy to think about how good of a career either
doesn't Yeah, he was m v P. He was m
v P in two thousand eight, two tho. He had
like I'm gonna say he had over two hundred hits.

(01:21:41):
I think it was like two eleven, two thirteen something
like that. Hits, a ton of doubles. Some of that
helped out by where he played the surrounding lineup. No
one ever die, I hate that supporting lineup to me, um,
I think that's super important. I mean, look at the
the Astros, they all hitting. Some of it is the park,
but all a lot of it is you constantly are

(01:22:02):
dealing with guys on base, constantly dealing with the guy
who's behind you. Yeah, you'll get a lot of good
pitches if the guy behind you is no question. Dustin
Madroid been in the league twelve years. How about that
five seven, one seventy five. Listen, listened, it's five nine
and not fast, not fast at all. H most Stone

(01:22:27):
basically had in one season was twenty six. I was
seven years ago. We already knew who Cam Newton was,
we did we We just didn't want to admit who
he was. And he told us in no uncertain terms yesterday.
Find out what he told us next in the dug
Otlup Show, Fox Sports Radio, What Uppen Stuck Got Leave Show,

(01:22:52):
Fox Sports Radio, M keeping our I on Major League
Baseball's game one of the a L d S, which
got in away with some fireworks. Chris Sale gave up
back to back home runs in the bottom half of
his first half an inning as a postseason pitcher, Red

(01:23:16):
Sox have played in a run in. Uh was at
the top of the second inning. So now we're bottom
two and um Astros have a runner at second with
two outs, still threatening as Chris Sale tries to work
himself out of this jam, tons to get to metric,
tons to get to UM and uh we'll do so

(01:23:41):
starting now, is we get you ready for We got
baseball tonight, we got NFL football tonight, we got college
football tonight. Louisville taken on NC State. So much to
get to, but we we can't start without digressing about
what Cam Newton said and how he reacted. But before

(01:24:03):
you before you hear it, remember this, you guys, remember
Nolan No Rocky Nolan no Rocky um uh is uh
NFL draft scout. In two thousand eleven, he worked for
Pro Football Weekly and Pro Football Weekly is one of
the most respected in the business. UM and he wrote

(01:24:29):
this about Cam Newton. Take a listen I've spoke with
a number of decision makers who like Cam what came
has to offer. He's good athletes, got an outstanding Army's
incredibly strongest runner. But three to five decision makers I've
spoken to in the last twenty four hours expressed great
concern about what he is and what he's going to
bring to an NFL franchise. Some of the comments I've

(01:24:51):
heard I've received is that he's full of himself, he's
delusional about his past. The term fraud, the term narcissist,
the term con artists have all been used. These are
the opinions of the NFL scouting community. I think that
anybody who really investigates the character the makeup of Cam
Newton will come out with the same kind of conclusions. Um, look,

(01:25:12):
there are some positives, but the negatives were very disingenuous.
Has a fake smile, comes across as very scripted, as
a selfish me first makeup, always knows where the cameras
are in place to them, has an enormous ego and
selsivan sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes
him believe he is above the law. He does not

(01:25:33):
command respect and teammates and will always struggle to win
the locker room. Only A one year producer that was
in college course Florida got in trouble, went to blind college.
One a national championship. One year at Auburn won a
national championship. Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness, is not punctual,
seeks shortcuts. So that's a bad example. Immature has had
issues with authority, not dependable. He's an extremely talented dual

(01:25:57):
thread quarterback, armed and athletic talent desired and rollout play
action bootleg passing game ideally fit at the time for
the Redskins and the Raiders. However, he will test the rules,
be difficult to manage, and lack the intangibles to win
the trust of a locker room. Remember this is Nolan
a Rocky who was crushed for this when Cam Newton

(01:26:17):
was the m v P of the league two years ago.
Here was Cam yesterday. I know you take a lot
of pride in seeing your receivers playing well. Devin Bunches
just seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes
and and making getting those extra yards. Because I give
you a little bit of an enjoyment to see him
kind of trust staking people out there. It's funny to

(01:26:38):
hear female talk about routes. It's funny, mm hmm, funny, funny.
How she should have said, funny? How when I clown?
When am I hear to you? Amuse you? What movie ramas?
Good Fella music? Tell me you knew that? Right of course? Okay,
you were screaming good fellas. Just your micro one wasn't off.

(01:27:02):
It's interesting because you know, uh no. Rocky also took
some heat for his counter reports, similarly scathing on Geno Smith,
which we're not to be completely accurate. And when you look,
if you if you take out the high and you
take out the low, if the highest two thousand and fifteen,
where they're fifteen and one, thirty five touchdowns, ten receptions,

(01:27:22):
you take out the low, which is probably I don't
if you go last year or his rookie season, which
twenty one touchdowns, seventeen interceptions, they were just six and
ten as a team. Who is he right? He's a
twenty touchdown, twelve interception guy who can run but only

(01:27:43):
completes about six of his passes, maybe a little bit less.
Fifty eight point seven for his career again taking out
the high, taking out the low. He is an immensely
talented run pass threat who has a huge sense of entitlement,
a substantial ego, and he lacks the ability to command
the respect of a locker room because of moments like yesterday,

(01:28:06):
Hey Nolan, no Rocky, wherever you are right. It's like
I used to love. I loved scattered ports and basketball.
Now they have something. Do you guys know what Synergy is?
Every basketball guy has this program called Synergy. Their their

(01:28:27):
code or somebody else's code to where you can watch
every possession of any player in college or pro and
pro meaning almost anywhere. It's amazing, just on your computer
punching their name, bring it up. He's really like, you
want to see what he does on pick and rolls?
You can watch every pick and roll position. I don't
know how they do it. It's incredible. Um, but do

(01:28:49):
you still have old schools scattering ports? Right? Like? I
can tell you on equivocally what Steph Curry likes to do.
Steph Curry likes a step back move going to his
left to his right. He like seen in and out
with his left hand, cross over to his right, and
then he shoots He shoots off the crossover, which is
which is different than most guys. It's why he gets
it off. It's because normally when people cross over, you

(01:29:10):
take another dribble before you pull up and shoot. But
he has great balance and incredibly quick release deep range.
He shoots, he does that little step back move going
to his left, and if you play him close then
he hesitated. Then he does to hesitate, and he goes
by you, gets in the lane and shoots the floater,
and he does the same thing going right. That's really
his offensive weaponry. My point is I used to love.
I still like when you play basketball and you know

(01:29:30):
somebody's skin of reportant, you said, like, this is what
he's gonna do, this is what he's gonna do, and
then he does it, and you know it because you've
watched the tape. You've watched what a team runs at
the end out of every time out, what they run
under ten seconds in every game. If you watch the tape,
it's usually right there for you and Nolan, no Rocky

(01:29:54):
somewhere sitting there going huh, I watched the tape. That's
who he is. Now. Look, it's it stands to reason
that guys can evolve. Guys can mature Guys cannot be
the same guy that they were, as Ben Roethlisberger, the
same guy he was in that bar in Georgia. I

(01:30:14):
don't know. I would guess that Jamis Winston, who will
see tonight, is not so mature that he would yell
what he yelled on campus at Florida State, even if
he was trying to be funny, like, hey, dude, got
a little different now. But this is who Cam has been,
Absolutely who he's been. He was condescending towards a reporter

(01:30:36):
a couple of years ago. He called her sweetheart and
basically said she didn't know anything about football. After the
Super Bowl two years ago, when asked why he didn't
dive onto the football, they were down six points, he fumbled,
and he said, you know he's worried about his knees. Hey, dude,
it's the Super Bowl. You got the off season, you fumbled,

(01:30:59):
Go get it. One possession game and the game's over
if you lose the fumble, Go get it. No time
to worry about your knees. Then he had a chance
to kind of retract after just a disastrous uh postgame
interview after the Super Bowl two days later, in front
of his locker in Charlotte, cleaning out of stuff. He

(01:31:20):
was worse. He doubled down. Guy's not good at pr
doesn't have a good sense of self, has an inflated
sense of who he is, completely and totally entitled. And
because of all of these issues, even though he looks
the part and at times plays the part, lacks consistency
and can't win a locker room. And like, look, he's

(01:31:43):
he's also the product of what we do to star athletes.
He's been sheltered. It's been sheltered. And what's maybe what's
fascinating about, Like Kevin Durand has a little bit of
this too. Like Kevin Durand, I'm he did not grow
up sheltered growing up in d C. But he was
sheltered in terms as a basketball player relating to other people.

(01:32:06):
Remember Kevin Durant is two weeks right, two weeks ago, right,
was the Twitter stuff Like who does that? Guys that
don't really understand normal relationships, how to speak to people.
It's one of the one of the big concerns with homeschooling.
A LaMelo ball, Like, I get it, your dad and
your family has become kind of bigger than life, but

(01:32:26):
taking you out of school, you don't have the normal
interpersonal relationships with their kids, and even the ones you
get in sports, it's not the same. You need to.
I mean, think about some of the guys who are
the best. Tom Brady remember didn't start every game. You know,

(01:32:47):
he was rotated and when even at Michigan, forget about
where he was drafted, it wasn't like he was his
team at Michigan his last year. Aaron Rodgers one scholarship
offer after coming out of junior college, then drops in
the draft. You gotta have some sort of adversity because
at first he also forms character. Kirk Cousins right, he

(01:33:08):
was the other quarterback drafted when the Redskins trade up
to get r G three, Russell Wilson draft in the
third round. Remember Russell Wilson was at NC State, I
believe was their all time a second and all time
in passing to uh to Philip Rivers and then Tom
O'Brien said, hey, if you go play pro baseball in
the summer, you don't have a spot here. So he

(01:33:31):
went to Wisconsin. But Cam Newton, yes, he went through
turmoil when he stole some lap to stole a laptop
throughout the window when he thought he was gonna get
caught at Florida, went to Blinn College. That is some turmoil,
but he never had to kind of own up to it.

(01:33:51):
Went to Auburn and remember his dad was accused of
taking money, asking for a hundred fifty grand from Mississippi State,
only to change his mind. Last I can go to Auburn.
What do you think happened there? Like this dude has
been coddled and entitled and sheltered from the real world,
and this is who he really is. You know, there's
a little bit of a childlike demeanor to it where
he doesn't like, hey, dude, you were the m v

(01:34:14):
P of the league. Why are you dressing like a
circus act every time? Just throwing a T shirt and
some jeans, Like be a real human being? But he can't.
There is no real human being there. You're you're cool.
You don't have to act cool. I used to give
speeches to like high schools, still do sometimes high school

(01:34:34):
in college, and I say, like, be the cool, Like
what's that mean? Like I was a dork in high school.
Dork I had one girlfriend most of my junior and
senior year. Um, I was on the model United Nations team.
I got pretty good grades. I played basketball all the time.
I didn't really go out. I was like a big
party guy. But I would say though I wasn't part

(01:34:57):
of the resuper popular group, I was popular enough. I
was thought to be cool. Why because I've got a
scholarship and was the high school basketball American. Like, when
you're the athlete, you're already cool. When you're the m
v P, already cool, Like you don't need all that
other stuff. But his need to be cool shows immaturity.
His need to condescend shows an insecurity. Cam Newton showed

(01:35:23):
you who we all thought he was really really is.
Rob Parker joins the show up coming next. I'll ask
him about Kim Newton, Oh, and um, Yankees taking on
the Indians? Is it sacrilege for Lebron James to wear
a Yankees hat tonight? That of coming next? But first

(01:35:43):
I gotta tell you I am sleeping like an absolute baby. Sure,
I soil my pants, Yes, that happens. Okay, I cry
out in the middle of the night, But I sleep
for like twelve hours because I'm sleeping on a cast
for mattress man, it's the best night's sleep I've ever had.
It's cool, it's comfortable, thanks two uh Casper's two high
tech phones. And it's better than any of those old

(01:36:04):
overpriced mattresses. I used to have Casper ships right to
your door for free. They do so in a small
like how they do it box. You open it up
and the thing like inflates and just perfection. And not
only is the design super high quality, but so is
its packaging. You try it for a hundred nights, risk free,
and if you don't like it, send it back. They
pick it up from your door. Put cast for the test,

(01:36:27):
risk free. Go to Casper dot com. Use the code
gottli for fifty dollars towards the purchase of your mattress.
That's Casper dot com. The code is GOTTLIEB. Get fifty
bucks off the purchase of your next mattress Casper dot com.
You'll sleep like like a baby. Terms of gainditions supply,
here's the select Quote difference. Most companies give you one option,

(01:36:48):
one policy, one rate, but select Quote gives you options
lots of options. I want you to give select Quoe
a callit eight eight one four four, six, six, or
go to select quote dot Com today for a totally
free personal quote. Doug Gallup Show, Fox Sports Radio. Um Man,

(01:37:10):
who's two's when Josel Tube has gotten to the Steph
Curry level of awesomeness right where, you're more surprised When
Steph Curry misses, You're more surprised than when he makes.
When Josel Tuve gets out, he just got out in
a second at bout hit a home run, solo home run,
his first tepat. When he gets out, you're more surprised
than when he doesn't. Crazy right, Um, When Rob Parker

(01:37:33):
says something sane, you're more surprised than when he said
I'm kidding. Rob Parker joins us. You can hear him
weekends on Fox Sports Radio. He joins, he joins this course,
you see him on the disputity, to see him all
across uh the Fox Sports one dial. Let me get
your thoughts on Cam Newton, who was was at at

(01:37:53):
least condescending towards a female reporter. At most he was
the male chauvin his big Rob Parker. When you here
Cam Newton speak to a reporter in that way, what
do you think I think terribly uh, insensitive and just
not professional. She's there to do a job. Uh, you know,

(01:38:13):
I thought she asked a fine question. And even regardless
she could have asked a bad question, there's no reason
to undress her in front of her peers and do that.
If you don't like the question or ask, or you
don't understand it or or you know what I mean,
or even if you don't want to answer it, there's
a way of doing it without doing that too, especially

(01:38:33):
a woman reporter, Doug, I've been in the business thirty
one years. Is very tough to just be a reporter period,
guy or girl, man or woman. But it's also harder
for women in that business because if if if you
make a mistake or do something wrong, then people say
she she doesn't know the games, you don't know this

(01:38:54):
and that, where guys can make mistakes all the time
and they don't get judged the same way. So what
a tough spot for a female reporter. And I just
don't think he was fair or a professional to do
what he did, but that's who he is. I mean,
I'm I mean, like, you don't do that, like this
is one of those I'm kind of glad he hasn't
apologized at this point, because like, what, what are you
gonna apologize for? That's who you are. We can't misperceive

(01:39:16):
what we all saw, what we all heard. This isn't
like a quote which is like, now he was misquoted.
We all saw it, and that's how Yeah, that's that's who.
That's how he feels about a female reporter talking football
with him. Absolutely, I mean that's true because those are
the things when it comes out of your mouth, it
has to be who you are. You don't just do that.
And the thing I was impressed the most buy was

(01:39:38):
that her peers didn't chuckle at the joke because it's
not a joke. It's just it's just not Maybe that's
the way you feel in the locker room with you,
with your other players, maybe, but that that's just you're
the face of the franchise, your big star in the league.
It just comes off. And that's why even the NFL

(01:39:59):
came down on him swiftly and let everybody know, no,
we're not with that. That's unprofessional and he shouldn't have
said it. Rob Parker joining us. You can hear on
Fox Sports Radio Saturdays at eight pm Eastern Time. Five
pm Pacific time when most people don't know. I don't know.
Rob Parker should have been hired with me. When I
was back at the ESPN Radio, we did this show
called Game Night, and they brought in a bunch of

(01:40:21):
different costs and uh, I said, Rob Parker be great,
and they said they said they thought otherwise. And then
he starts popping up on TV everywhere, and so I said, see,
I'm a great talent evaluator. Anyway, I remember that Doug
does years ago, and UH came in. I was excited
to put the opportunity. That was a lot of fun. Yeah,
but then I wanted to wind up doing the first take?

(01:40:43):
And uh? And what was he a classic now with
Now with Josh Elliott with Josh Elliott, I was. I
started on that show first, then I moved over to
first take, No, moved over to stephen a show, quite frankly,
and then I'm moved to first time. Did you know this?
I am the only guest host in the history quite frankly, Well,

(01:41:04):
are you serious? I did not know that guest hosted
that show. Image. Imagine that you're New York City in
Times Square and you think you're going to see steven
A Smith and yeah, feeling for steven A. Doug Gottlieb
and you remember that crowd that was a Stephen A crowd.
It was It was definitely not a Gottlip crowd. It
was a Steven It was a Stephen steven A crowd.
Rob Parker joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Um, uh,

(01:41:27):
Lebron James is going to have to wear an Indian's hat,
isn't he? Which is like the phoniest thing ever. But
this is what we make our guys do. Remember he
famously wore a Yankees hat at an Indians game the
last time around. If you were advising Lebron, what would
you tell him to do? I don't wear a hat
at all. I hear you what you're saying, be authentic,

(01:41:47):
be real. But it just doesn't sit well with the
home team. I get it. It's a business decision. You
don't want to feel like you're rooting against is supposed
to be some camaraderie and they come to your games
and but what like they went to the games last year,
but like he's like, look, I've always been a he
did go to the World Series games last year. Of course, famously.
But um, I mean, why can't I don't understand why

(01:42:09):
you can't Just all right, man, I'm I'm a Yankee fan.
I've been a Yankee fan since birth, even if he
was a Yankee fan because the Yankees were winning and
it was easy to cheer for the Yankees. Okay, I'm
gonna stop you, dog. ESPN was first, and it was
out there, and you were a fan of ESPN, and
you're wearing a ESPN hat and and sweatshirt with the

(01:42:30):
logo to a Fox Sports event Fox Sports. I worked.
I worked for ESPN. He doesn't work for the Indian
He doesn't work for the Indians. He works for the
kid But you wouldn't but you wouldn't wear that now
because you work for somebody else, Am I right? But
he doesn't work for the Indians. He works for the Calves,
and and and and and sports fandom is like, then

(01:42:51):
you're obviously not not then he obviously was never really
a Yankees fan. If you're really a Yankees who saw
Derek Jeter Yankees run off three or four World Series
in a row, and the Indians weren't that good at
that time when he was growing up, So you gravitate.
A lot of young kids do that, but there are
in other cities. I don't know. I don't understand it.

(01:43:12):
When I was growing up as a kid, if it
wasn't a New York team, then I wasn't interested. I
don't care. I wasn't a Cowboy. I was a Jets
fan growing up. They were terrible. I never rooted for
the Cowboys or for a good team. I rooted for
the Jets, win, loser, draw. That's that's what it was. Well,
a couple of things. One year in New York. Second
of all, when you grew up, there still rabbit years,
so you can only watch three channels, and it was

(01:43:34):
only New York sports. The rest of us grew up
with cable. Cable. That's why there's so many Cubs fans
because we're the cable generation. And the first two teams
that we got to learn, the Braves used to suck
and then they got good. We watched them on TVs
and we watched the Cubs were always bad. But they're
always on w g N Day games. No, that's fair,
that is absolutely fair. But I just I don't understand

(01:43:54):
it even I. I just when you're from a place
you should just pick a team him in your area
and follow them. There's your team. You don't have to
do that, or you don't like that team, like, you know,
I don't like that team. I don't like the way
they play. Now, if you're really a fan of a
team that you know, then you have to like that.
Do you have to like that team through thick and thin? Right?

(01:44:15):
Like I used to? Do you like? Do you like
the My dad used to like whoever Bill Parcels coached, Right,
So then he's like he's with the Jets. He's like
the Jets, Like, now you're a giant seas Like I
still like the Giants, but I like Paul Parcels teams,
like now you like the Cowboys. Hold on, you can't
do that, No, I got you. I mean that's a
little strange, but but I but I do. I can
see where he wants Parcels to do well, and maybe

(01:44:37):
he's not really a fan of the team, but he
he wants to see Parcels do well. I I could
see that part, but I don't. I don't know about
hopping from team to team. Same thing and Lebron James fans,
you know, they're all in on Miami. He leaves Miami,
they're not They're not Miami Heat fans anymore because they're
just Lebron fans. And I get that. Um okay, So

(01:44:58):
I look at this and I A. You know, since, um,
since like the tenth of July, the Indians had the
best d r A in baseball, they got an incredible
starting rotation. And then as much as the Yankees have
a very good bullpen on paper, no one Trustdellan Betances.
Right now, you feel like or Aldis Chapman, you just

(01:45:20):
kind of hold your breath because he was good or
all this Chapman the other night. But he's been bad
a lot of the year, and the Indians haven't equally
equally accomplished bullpen of their own. This one doesn't feel
like it's going to be much of a series, does it.
I disagree totally. I got the Yankees in four games.
The best team in baseball doesn't always win. It never

(01:45:42):
works out that way or seldom, because it's who's hot
and who's playing better, not who who's played better. In
the regular season. We've seen the Dodgers win four divisions
in a row. They haven't gone to the World Series.
They want a fifth one this year. They had this
great run, the great season. It's not guaranteed that they're

(01:46:03):
gonna win anything, just like it's not guaranteed. The Indians
were up three to one last year against the Cubs
and didn't win a World Series, and they had Miller
and and the other guy. Granted they didn't have the
rotation that they have now they got all their guys back.
I just think that the Yankees have a golden opportunity.
There's something about this team because the bullpen is so

(01:46:24):
strong and those guys sol so hard. All you need
is five or six innings out of their starters. I
saw this in nineties six, Doug. If you can go
back and think about the you can't even think of
their rotation because it wasn't that great. But they won
a World Series because they got a five or six
worker bull innings out of there, and then they went

(01:46:45):
to the bullpen. Marianno Rivera was working two winnings back
then in nineties six. The Wetlands, right, you had Mario
Rivera to Wetland, good night, drive home safely. But you
don't have that with like look, but Tances is not
what he has been and they don't. Otherwise he would
have pitched the other night. Like there's a reason they're not.
They weren't using him. They don't trust him, but they

(01:47:06):
also they also can burn everybody. They gotta have somebody ready,
So Potences is ready for the night he will pitch.
I mean, this is one of their big guys. You
just said he did he struggle at the end, Yes,
he did. You hope you turned the page, had a
few days off, have a good bullpen session and and
and try to get back. The guy has way way,
way more positive and good stuff that's happened in his

(01:47:29):
career to just dismiss a a off period of section.
A lot of people. I heard all the people you
remember Doug. I was big on Judge early on. I
put him in my top five sluggers that I've ever seen. Uh,
And people went crazy. This is early on. And then
he has the slump and I don't know if he
had a little shoulder or something, and everybody's like, oh see,

(01:47:49):
I knew he was just gonna be a flash in
the pan. And boy did this guy turned it on
in September to put together an unbelievable rookie year. I
don't care what anybody says, Aaron Judge should be the
A L M v P and the Rookie of the year.
That's the kind of season he had. And so when
I look at the Yankees, I think they got a
little bit of magic going with that guy Judge, with Sanchez,

(01:48:12):
with the hitters they have, and then not to have
to face Corey Klueber in Game one tonight is a blessing.
I just think it's a mistake, and I understand Terry
Francona looking at it, thinking, well, I want Cluber to
pitch game two in game five? What is there? What
if there's no Game five and the Yankees can somehow

(01:48:32):
some way beat that team and only faced Klueber one time. No,
I I like it's it's it's it's very risky strategy.
Maybe the most surprising thing about Aaron Judges. I know
he gets on base a ton against lefties, Uh, forty
four percent of time he's on base, But he's done
most of his damage against right He's you know, forty
four of his home runs against right he's which is
just it's absolutely absolutely crazy, crazy numbers. Although a much

(01:48:56):
better hitter on the road, Uh, see me hit her
at home in that in box with thirty three thirty
three of the home runs at home. Look, I look
forward to watching the game, talking about with you upcoming.
I just don't think they have the pitching to do it.
Because as much as you want to talk about clueber Um,
you know, like, look at the Yankees rotation, Servino is
less than impressive. He didn't make it to the second

(01:49:16):
out the other night. Dude, that's your dog. I'm just
gonna if they win tonight, the Yankees are in the
driver's seat. All you gotta do is get one, and
even if they lose to Cluber in Game two, they
have a chance to go back to Yankee Stadium and
win two games without facing Cluber. I'm I'm telling you
that's why I'm picking the Yankees in four. I think

(01:49:38):
they have a real shot to beat them and people
are gonna be surprised. But I think if they if
they win game one tonight, I got him in four,
all right, you had him in. You had him in.
You can't have them in four and then only have
been four if they win tonight, No, no no, no, I
got him in four. I'm just saying, if they win tonight,
all right, Rob Parker. You can hear them Saturday's eight
o'clock Eastern time with Brian and Know here on Fox

(01:50:00):
Sports Trade. Of course you'll see him. I'm sure I'll
be on the Undisputed on Undisputed tomorrow, Rob, thanks so
much for joining us. Always a pleasure, Doggy fresh night.
And let's get to uh Dan fire Dan. What if
I missed here and I look up? I see two two?
How the Red Sox score Mookie Bets just scored on
a sacrifice fly? In fact, the Red Sox had runners
on first and third with no one out at the
top of the fourth inning and now two outs. They

(01:50:21):
were able to get Bets across, but two outs now
on the top be half of the inning, Red Sox
and Astros tied up at two. It was a two
nothing lead for Houston at the end of one that's
because Alex Bregman and ose L Toba hit back to
back home runs. But again now knotted up at two
a piece. Top of the fourth inning, and if you
missed the starters, it was Chrissale against Justin Verlander. Both

(01:50:41):
remained in the game, Yankees, and then the ends Tonight
seven thirty Eastern time and game one of their American
League Divisional series, Sonny Gray takes on Trevor Bower in
a game that you will see on Fox Sports one now. Tonight,
the Patriots and Buccaneers will play in Tampa kickoff eight
five Eastern time. Bucks running back Doug Martin, returning from
his four games suspension, missed the first three games of

(01:51:03):
this year in a game last year, and the NFL
Network said that Patriots tended Rob Gronkowski is expected to
play despite a thigh injury, but there are some reports
out there. Doug is saying it's not as sure of
a thing as it may seem to be. Even if
Gronk place, he's expected to be limited tonight. Kicker Nick
Novak is back with the Chargers, had a four year
stint a few years back when they were in San Diego.

(01:51:24):
Now he's back with the team in l A as
they waived young Wake Coup. Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford limited
a practice today after missing the last couple of weeks
with knee issues. He hasn't practiced for the last two
weeks and missed the team's last three games. And how
about this, dug In a poll conducted by the Associated
Press and the n O r C Center for Public
Research of the People this that they survey disapprove of

(01:51:47):
NFL players protesting the national anthem, while approve of it.
There was also a poll taking about President Trump's comments
about firing all the NFL players if they would protest
during the anthem. Disagreed with President Trump's take on that matter. Yeah,
I mean, I it's it's what I said, like, Look,

(01:52:08):
he's I don't know, if he's an idiot savant, I
don't know, but I do think there's a certain genius
to it with Trump, um reinvigorating the whole protest thing,
because the protest thing was dying down. It really wasn't
making making rounds. And I think it would be really hard,
quite honestly, this weekend to protest in the NFL. What

(01:52:31):
happened in Las Vegas. I just think it will um
But I think he he struck a nerve there. There's
a a much higher percentage of people, especially older people,
who were really bothered by anybody saying moving, not taking
the hat off, and definitely protesting during the national anthem.

(01:52:55):
And I think he knew exactly what he was doing.
Probably the part that he went off script was when
he dropped Lobb the s O B s he's his
guys dumb like a fox, and he gets all the
players to react, which, of course you can do. You say, well,
the NFL is the most popular sport, like, yeah, it's

(01:53:18):
the most postulate. Not everybody likes the NFL. And while
young people are super bothered by young people don't vote,
is the only higher percentages old people do. That's why
they that's why they talk about changing Medicare and Medicaid
and et cetera, because those are things that affect the

(01:53:39):
older generation, the baby boomers. He was playing to the
baby boomers. Mhm okay, so really uh really really interesting,

(01:53:59):
really interesting night tonight. This is a multi TV night.
And then ramos how many TVs you got working one?
I know you had some you you had some things.
You're shuttling home yesterday. We missed. We did miss you yesterday,
like I can legit, like I don't usually say what
I'm Mr Yesterday, Oh thank you, cheery disposition as well
as your professional skills, Mr Kay, thank you, Doug. How

(01:54:21):
many TVs do I have in the house or how
many TVs? Like okay, so you have um at CBS
at five at eight thirty Eastern five thirty Local is
Patriots Buccaneers. Definitely will watch the NFL game, Yes, okay,
but then you have the Yankees game will be probably
the fourth or fifth inning right about then, and I
will watch that game as well. When you have two

(01:54:43):
TVs working, Yes, or I'll just switch back and forth
the previous channel, just keep going back and forth and
back or watching on my computer. Which will you do?
Like you gotta set this up? You also have it.
You're not gonna watch the college game at all? No,
that's probably last on my list. College game starts at
eight o'clock. You, so they're all going at the same time,
same time. Fire, How are you working this thing now?

(01:55:03):
You are you working late into the night? Are you done?
You know? I'm I'll be I'll be home for the
I'll probably miss the first driver or whatnot from the
football game. I'll mostly be focused on the football game
tonight and I'll flip over to Fox Sports one for
the for the Yankees and Indians. Yeah. I think that
The other thing you can do is you can do
you have DVR. You could DVR one and then during

(01:55:25):
a time out you go back and you can watch
I mean like football especially you can when you DVR,
you can get done with the football game so fast,
so fast, Like oh my god, that's it. That's all
the action there was. Like that's kind of it. That's
kind of all there actually was. But there's probably two
hours of diners, drivings and dives after So that's probably
where I will be at about like nin' like how

(01:55:48):
al brittle must his hair be with all that guy
that guy Fieri has in it? Yeah? Brittle that stuff
it does make you hungry. They're like, well, you know
we did was took porks. Now we took Hamburger, and
we took we took garlic and every every recipe all
is all the same, just pouring like we put a
bunch of garlic in it, but just salt in it,

(01:56:08):
a bunch of pepper in it, some cayenne. Like wait, wait,
this is the same recipe for a for a tie
dish like three episodes ago. What the hell you want
to know the Can I give you the worst the
worst reality show that's usually reality show, but a spinoff
reality show? Can I say quickly one thing, I just

(01:56:30):
one time to be like, man, this burger sucks, you know,
like this is awful. Make me something else, Like what
is this It's still got markus marks where the jockey
was hitting it. Like, Uh, did you guys ever watch
house Hunters? Yes? Okay, International house Hunters is the least
interesting show. It's a terribly uninteresting spin off of a

(01:56:50):
really good show. You like International house Hunters? Yeah? I
like it. Hoot in Brisbane, Australia. We just we just
decided to pack up all our stuff and moved to Iceland. Like,
look good for you. I guess what. That didn't help
me at all. That doesn't look interesting. That doesn't look fun.
And by the way, I can't watch football on Sundays.
I agree that it's not as good as the original,

(01:57:11):
but I still find it pretty interesting. Not even close.
It's like smoking in the bandit three. What was the
budget you know for like these things? Is it in
American currency or is it in like the country's currency,
because that would be even more confusing. Uh, they do
it in the country's currency, but they do tell you
the conversion, Like that's but but what like I don't

(01:57:35):
like the realtors are so much more matter of fact, like, well,
you want to be close to the town Center that
you could walk through the ghost like everything just looks like,
oh god, that looks that's thanks. Where's the costc? Where's
the cost co? I don't know. Why can't you buy
things in bulk? Right? And Doug does it? John knows

(01:57:56):
what shows I hate the most, Right, John. We've talked
about this before, shows John and Ryan kids cooking shows.
I don't need to see kids anything Chopped, Junior Master
Chef Jr. I don't care if an eleven year old
can cook a sue fla. I have no interest whatsoever.
If that rivals Kids Cooking. I will never watch International

(01:58:16):
House Hunters M. I actually I like the what's the
what's the iron stunt? Iron chef? What's the one where
they uh chopped? You can always tell who's gonna get
And I hate when they go to commercial. Just tell
me he's chopped already for crying out loud. I don't
want to wait click. I I know who's getting shopped

(01:58:37):
because they've been into the burger and they look like,
oh my god, I just ate a piece of dog poop.
I have some good news for a playoff contending in
the NFL. I'll share it with you up coming next
what True Car. You can find out what other people
in your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. You've a guy. One compliment. That's what
he does for you. Doug Gottlip Show, Fox Spoord Tradio.

(01:58:59):
Maybe we didn't see Ramos, maybe we didn't miss you.
People never know what's going on in music starts to
stop that they just listen to you, Doug. It sounds
like my kids, right, They have like such short intentions
for like I don't like that song, change that song.
Back in my day, we had to listen to songs
through the NATI. Back in my day, we just had
to buy cassette tapes, okay, and you could you couldn't

(01:59:21):
buy that the single was too expensive, right, see by
the and you get like three good songs that you
get too fast forward hopefully not miss the time and
out just perfectly. So I don't understand. It's October baseball
in Houston and they got the roof closed in the
dome because it's louder. Open up the dome. What's the
point of playing in Houston in a what's the point

(01:59:41):
of having retractable dome if you don't retract it. Let's
get to the press, the press. Do no done, no,
no doe do down No. What do you got there? Damn?
I have some big fantasy news for people coming up
in about six the seconds for featuring tonight's Patriots Buccaneers game.

(02:00:03):
But we got a dandy at Houston. So far, so good.
In the American League Divisional Series, Red Sox and Astros
tied up at two a piece bottom of the fourth inning,
along replay on Jackie Bradley almost catching center field has
the Astros threatening with runners on first and second, but
there are now two outs. In the bottom of the
fourth inning, Red Sox and Stros tied up at two apieces.

(02:00:25):
Chris Sale continues to face Justin Verlander. M hmm. Okay,
what's the fantasy news. The fantasy news comes from the
National Football League. Rob Gronkowski not going to play tonight
for the Patriots as they face the Buccaneers. NFL Network, Yeah, okay, okay, Gronk.
You may have you may have that, but you're not

(02:00:46):
gonna play tonight because the NFL network and ESPN now
saying he's been ruled out of tonight's game. NFL Network
earlier in the day said that grop Gronkt was expected
to play despite a thigh injury, but apparently couldn't loosen
up that thighs. No Rob Gronkowski for the Patriots tonight out.
By the way, thighs are my favorite piece of meat,
just really not mine. Fourth four about of four wing

(02:01:11):
no breast, breast, breast, then wing than leg than thigh. Wow, okay,
THI would be others receiving votes. Probably I am. I
am thigh than wing than leg than breast. Interesting. Then
you're good to go because everybody, I think most people

(02:01:32):
like the breasts more than breasts are better for you. Yeah, okay, okay,
that's what she said. Anyway, they didn't actually make any sense.
What was it? What else you got? You touched on
this at the top, touched on it, getting uncomfortable. I
want to break up Oikos, but it's Oikos dan In
Oikos yogurts top Panther's quarterback Kim Newton as a spokesperson

(02:01:55):
for their brand after the comments he made yesterday towards
a female reporter, I become guy. By the way, my
dad where I mispronounced thing. My dad always it was
a hunder and it was a Honda. And what do
we called it in uh called infinity? That's infinity? Oinks
you mean oikos? Yes, whatever the Greek yogurt stuff that

(02:02:16):
Cam used to pitch. They be aibled at him because
he came across like a condescending mail show in his pig.
And when you come across like a condescending mails shoving
his big he usually are you know, like many of us, Doug,
we thought, uh seple Veda was just outside your window
instead of the wrong sealabo and the wrong up. Well,
yet runs being scored in Houston, Astros getting a two out,

(02:02:41):
not two across two across two runs scored four two strows.
Marwin Gonzalez knocking into with a two rb I double
with two outs, So the Astros now at four two
in the fourth um Sam Bradford practice today. How about
that living there participants has missed the last two weeks
of practice and has missed the team's last three games,
but practicing today because they have that Monday night game

(02:03:02):
against the Bears. We could see Sam Bradford back on
Monday night in Chicago do they need him? You need
him going against a rookie quarterback? I guess you at
some point you do. Um, Look, I hope Bradford's okay.
I mean, they haven't shut him down. They're not operating
on his knee, so apparently this is something he's gonna
have to play and work and rehab through. Problem is that,

(02:03:23):
like if even if he can play, how mobile will
he be? And you gotta wonder if that was a
non cactt on contact injury, what's the next thing to
happen to his knee? Finally, Doug North Carolina thought maybe
it was gonna happen tomorrow, but it's not the case.
They won't find out the findings of the n C
Double of n Double, a investigation into the school's academic

(02:03:43):
fraud case. There was a report earlier today that it
will come out tomorrow. That is not going to be
the case, but it could be coming down suit. It
was only seven years ago, right, only seven years ago?
Why wait? H was gonna show up? But decided they
could They could do just as good a job. Not
growing up the press all right? Quickly ramos football game, Patriots, Buccaneers,

(02:04:06):
No Gronk, who you like buccaneers. I do too. Buccaneers
are five and a half point dogs. Who do you
like their music? Patriots outright? Patriots out right? Okay, so Patriots,
but the bucks to cover Yeah, pat Patriots are favored. Yeah, buyer,
give me the bucks to cover Patriots to win. All right.
That's exactly what if Ryan Music understood betting lines, he

(02:04:28):
would say, this is the doug Otlip Show.
