Do do doo doo doo doo doo. Um. So, Nico
Harrison hasn't and I can't necessarily blame him, hasn't had

(00:45):
a media session. I don't think since the trade, right
since the trade of Luka Doncic In in return they
got Anthony Davis. He had a closed door meeting with
or closed door session with reporters, and there were no
recording devices allowed in Hilo. You have more of the

(01:06):
details of that meeting, share them if you would.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Thanks to a hard working employee with the Dallas Morning
News Mike Curtis, who transcribed the entire news conference, which
is a difficult thing because, as you said, no recording
devices were allowed. Perhaps mister Curtis took a stenography class

(01:31):
in college as an elective. It paid off today, baby.
All right, So let's start with some of the key
things that he said. First of all, regarding any regrets
about the Anthony Davis trade, he said, yeah, there's no
regrets on the trade. Part of my job is to
do the best thing for the Mavericks, not only today

(01:51):
but in the future. Some of the decisions I'm going
to make are going to be unpopular, and that's my job,
and I have to stand by it one life thing.
I'll also add that every trade I've done has been
met with high scrutiny, and so eventually I'll earn the
trust of this community back. Some of these trades are
going to work out, and they have at a high level.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Unquote Yeah, So why are you laughing.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at him.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Did he do a good job putting it into a team
went to the NBA Finals last year?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
What have you done for me lately? Baby? But I'm
willing to. I'm willing to go with your line of thinking.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
No, you're not. You're laughing at him for stating something
that he's doing what you know. It's like, I don't
understand why so many have lost track of this. Again,
I will restate my feelings. I completely understand without knowing

(02:53):
so many of the details, why they felt the need,
why they were ticked off at at Luca. Right, Like, again,
we got the same thing on a different level here right,
There are guys where and the season they come in
asking for money or more money than whatever they were
getting last year, and you're like, dude, you didn't have

(03:17):
that good year. You didn't practice nearly as much as
you could have, Like, why am I signing up for that?
The reality is some of those guys know they're hard
to replace, and Luca is impossible to replace, impossible. So
there's a lot we don't know. But his point should
be well taken, which is like, hey, all the moves

(03:39):
we made last year ended up in the NBA finals,
So I lose all credibility because I make a trade
that you don't like and we don't actually get a
chance to see the short term outcome from our side.
Of the trade because Anthony Davis was hurt and now
Kyrie Irving is hurt. I don't understand if you're trying

(04:02):
to rear in trust though, why would you not let
cameras in there? Bingo Chase Duke. Can you hypothesize over
that one, like what the think he would be or
what you know? I don't get that one.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
So the last time he spoke, remember it was that
awkward exchange right after the trade with Jason kitt and
he made some comments, just strange comments. It was something like, yeah,
and if it doesn't work out, you guys could kill
us or something, and it was it was just weird.
So I'm guessing the closed session was a result of

(04:38):
like people making his comments go viral and the memes
and making fun of him and dragging his team through
the mud. Because no matter how you position this, I
don't think anybody from Nico Harrison to Mark Cuban to
anybody thought it was going to go this far south.

(04:59):
The fan reacts in Dallas, I don't think anyone anticipated that.
So his lack of acknowledging that in this is really strange.
I think him saying that he's he plans to live
out his contract for the next three years. Yeah, he
plans on that, but I mean, you know, he'll also
take the buy out. I'm sure if the fallout becomes

(05:20):
worse it was, But the decision to do it closed
so that he couldn't become a viral meme like you
did the last.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Time makes sense. Prophet, what do you think.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
On on Nico? Yeah, I just it's I just keep
thinking about how much faith has been blown up with
Dallas Mavericks fans, and I, I don't know, I feel
like this. If I was in the shoes, I would

(05:54):
probably not have decided to close off recording devices because
it just it sends a message, and it more than anything,
it throws a gauntlet at journalist's feet and says, all right, well,
I'm trying to restrict you in this way and make
you work harder, and as we just saw from Ilo,
someone did work harder on it, and just sends a
message that like I'm not saying he's scared, but like

(06:17):
it does send a message that, like, you want this
level of control and you know, and control over over
a narrative that quite honestly has been beyond your purview
for a very long time. Yeah, they looks small. It
looks incredibly small, if nothing else.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I actually, I mean I hadn't thought of it in
the way in which Chase Duo presented it, and I
think sounds pretty accurate, right, Like, if you're going to
have an open discussion, why don't you do it because
you don't want to become a meme? Yeah, I think

(06:57):
the problem is here's the here's the interesting part of
Mavericks fans. They don't actually matter now. They'll matter if
they stop showing up, if they don't buy season tickets
next year, if there's a massive revolt over anybody wanted
to buy season tickets. I don't think that'll actually be
the case, because you'll still have Kyrie Irving and Anthony

(07:19):
Davis next year and probably add somebody else. But that's
the only way. See in college sports, they if they
stop supporting you, that doesn't matter. If they stop supporting
you with money now a sudden, you have no chance, right,
And that's really the donors in the NBA, local average

(07:39):
fanboy doesn't actually matter. It doesn't you know, the Areada
doesn't have to be completely full because that's like seventh
in the revenue stream. They make most of their money
off of TV and other things of corporate ads. Now,
if they lose the corporate ads, that they lose all
kinds of you know, nobody goes to the games all
those things, then yeah, now you've got a big problem
in your hand, and you got to get rid of

(08:00):
your GM. But in the meantime, this feels like a
lost year. You get Kyrie back, you try and build
a championship caliber roster in the upcoming off season, and
you're just gonna have to let history play out and
hope that the thing turns. That's the only thing you

(08:22):
can do. I don't like that they has no regrets,
not that it's his fault that Anthony Davis got hurt
or originally or that Kyrie Irving got hurt. I would
have worded it differently. I would have said I think
regrets as strong. I think are there things that I
wish would have happened or would have happened? Since? Absolutely absolutely,

(08:46):
and we learned from everything we do positively and negatively.
So are there some things? Yeah? Do I wish we
could have gotten a little bit more? Sure do I
wish Anthony Davis would have gotten hurt, And maybe we've
played him too soon before he was ready. Initially, Absolutely,
do I wish Kyrie Irving hadn't gotten hurt? Yeah? Do
I think in my mind, gosh, if we had held
back on playing Anthony Davis early on and he had

(09:09):
been healthy, had Kyrie, would Kyrie have been hurt? So yeah,
there's regrets. But do I regret making the trade? Again,
I can't speak to you. I can't speak for it.
I don't think that's the situation in which he can
say I regret making the trade, because that that would
tell Anthony Davis. He doesn't think Anthony Davis is as

(09:30):
good as his perception of it, which one I don't
think is true. And two I don't think now that
you're in business with Anthony Davis, you want to do.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Hey, Doug as a sports media veteran, and I'll add
Jason and Chris to this, have any of you either
ever heard of a scenario in which a player or
an executive or a coach had a news conference with
reporters but cameras and recording devices were not allowed. I

(09:59):
have never ever heard of that in a sports media sense.
I don't even think Gorbachev did it back in the eighties.
Have you guys ever heard of anything where cameras and
recording devices were not allowed for a media opportunity?

Speaker 1 (10:13):
No, I have not, And all things being.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Equal, I'll pose this as well, real fast. Oh no,
go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
I wanted to answer before you move on that one
time the newt Rockney told us that you're not going
to have recording devices or cameras in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
That was the only time it was on a train.
It was on a three day train ride to a
road game at usc But also throw this out from
a perception standpoint, Let's say this trade was made same
basketball trade, but it was handled from a pr and
optic standpoint as well as you possibly could have. Let's say,

(10:52):
all things being equal, it was like Steve Kerr the
head coach, and Bob Meyers, the former general manager of
the Warriors, or someone highly resciks back did doing everything
publicly the right way, but the basketball part of the
trade was still exactly the same. What would the perception
publicly among the fans be if at least it was

(11:12):
handled as best as it could have optically.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
How would you have handled it differently optically.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Any any way better than the Mavericks presently handled it
because you have the trade itself, but also kind of
the smug public optics that the confiscating signs and things
like that.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
I don't know if that's that. I don't know if
that's smug. I do think yes, they've been overreactive to that.
I just again, if you're willing to make the trade,
you gotta be willing to hear the pushback. It's the
same thing where if you're willing to play professionally, you
gotta be willing to get booed and jeered and all
this other stuff. So I don't know if that's smug,
but I don't think that has to do with pr

(12:00):
the trade the trade itself. I actually think, you know, again,
supposedly they called all these other teams with star players.
I would have waited till the offseason, but for whatever reason,
they felt like the urgency was now. And I do
think had Anthony Davis been healthy, they might have had
a chance to get back to the NBA Finals, a
greater chance than even with even with Luca healthy playing

(12:23):
for the Mavericks this year. But I would agree with
you that the taking away the signs is not a
smart way to do it.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
I think if there's just anything that really needs to
be quashed. I'm not even sure how the Mavericks or
Nico does this, but this almost feels like an ownership thing.
Did you have to reaffirm your position in Dallas? Because
right now the big conspiracy going around and it's got
enough legs on, Like people are still trying to figure
out the logic of trading away Luca, and while there

(12:56):
is some rational explanations for it, it has led enough
oxygen in the room of hey, we're tanking everything so
we can try to move this team to Vegas because
ownership wants this hybrid arena slash casino that they're not
getting in in Dallas. You like, Dallas is the third
largest television market in the country. It doesn't make any

(13:17):
sense it, I know, but there's still that light craf No,
there's not stop.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Don't do that. Don't do that. We can find a
conspiracy in everything, Chris, Like, that's what we give oxygen too,
with all these idiots that are now in office. We
give oxygen to things that are just not real. Like
they're not moving the Dallas Mavericks to Vegas. It's not happening.
The NBA is going to hand out a new franchise
to somebody. You know why? They make more money that

(13:44):
way with more teams, not gonna vacate it because they're
not getting their way with a new arena. Like that's
just not gonna happen. And there's no way to tank
a team in order to get Anthony Davis. So did
they make Kyrie Irving get hurt? That doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
So what's what's what's the downside then of just reaffirming
your commitment to Dallas? What's the downside just saying that,
what do we have.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
To reaffirm your commitment to Dallas? Is again, this is
like the they got to reaffirm your commitment to the
United States? What reaffirm what commitment?

Speaker 2 (14:13):
By the way, I just googled Dallas and conspiracy theory
and I got a whole lot of results.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Oh my god, there's no magic bullet.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yeah, but you don't you don't understand the logic in
trading away. Luka doncik he's a pats. Sorry, no, I'm
asking on his question, Chris, Like, oh, you're asking me this.
He refused to get into shape on a yearly basis.
It was probably getting worse, not better.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
I understand all that. I I I know the logical
reason for it.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
But no, you kind of dismissed it. You're like, well,
they can come up with if we play back the tape.
It sounded like you don't buy any of it, and
that what you do buy is, hey, there's just this
conspiracy theory out here that you could you could kind.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Of say, no, you can't, no, I buy I buy
that what they would get rid of Luca don just
because of all this stuff about not being the shape.
I disagree with it, and I think it's a very
dumb decision to get rid of him.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
And at least Chris allowed himself to be recorded, unlike Nico.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Good point yep, we're recording. But I will say this,
so it kind of makes you rethink this the way
that they've handled this pr wise And I just thought
of another misstep along the way. By the way, remember
Jason Kidd last week said it was really cool. It's
kind of like the Babe Ruth trade.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah about that was an all times but perfect. Did
you hear that one?

Speaker 3 (15:33):
They're just bungoing this thing.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
I mean that one was that wasn't Oh you got
to go Google, show them where that is in the system. Ye.
People compared this to the Babe Ruth trade, which I
think is pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Okay, I remember this memory, Jason.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Jason, that's actually not who you want to be compared to.
It's like, uh, it's like the old Uh. Other than that,
this is Lincoln. How is the show?

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Yeah, Abraham Lincoln. He loves watching plays like you No No,
not the No, not this one.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Today's the anniversary of that.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
By the way of Abraham Lincoln being assested by John
Woke smooth m hm. That that that resonated the This.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Is my point. Was this a call by ownership for
either not wanting to commit that kind of money and whatnot.
And they basically said, Nico, make the trade behind closed doors.
Nobody knew about it. All the insiders were completely in
the dark. Make this trade. Just make this go away,
and then you you take the bullets and this closed

(16:42):
door thing doesn't happen. This is can't be Nico's call,
because I think the conversation for the next twenty four
hours and you can count on this, it's going to
be how he ran from the media. He wasn't stand up.
Nobody closes doors in this day and age, something he's
hiding something. That decision had to come from the head

(17:04):
of communications, who who answers to the ownership because this
whole thing is strange. So maybe that was it. Maybe
we always thought that this was just a Nico Harrison move, right, Well.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
I think Nico has had an infatuation with Anthony Davis
from his time at Nike, Like he thinks Anthony Davis
and you know, if you go back and watch the
Lakers when they won an NBA title, Anthony Davis was
the biggest reason they won those that title, right, Whereas
I do think that there's a between Nico and ownership.
There was a Hey, this upcoming off season, we either

(17:36):
have to pay this guy three hundred and fifty million
dollars and if we pay three hundred fty million dollars
to a guy who making half of that doesn't even
want to get in shape drinks a ton in the
off season, then were the dumbest people ever, right, recommitting
to somebody who has not committed to off season conditioning
and to really getting after it. So yeah, I mean again,

(18:01):
do I see them there being a world where the
owners are like, I'm not paying I'm not paying you know,
top dollar for that guy. I'm not doing it, and
then Nico had to figure it out. Sure, I don't know.
I was with you with the logic with one to
avoid being a meme or having his having his picture
or those quotes. Uh beyond every TV, every sports TV

(18:25):
show in America. But now you're gonna have quotes, and
now you're gonna have the downs. Do people check out
the downside, because the downside to not having the TV
cameras in there is stuff like this where now we
leave it ambiguous. We don't know how things were said
and what got into that conversation, as opposed to if
it was a press conference rand live, we'd at least

(18:46):
be under able to understand context.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sporty Radio. So give
me a cool week in Green Bay, and like again,
talk about kind of lucking into something if you will, right,
I get this job eleven months ago, yeah, eleven months
ago today, get the job, yeah exactly eleven months ago

(19:25):
today get the job, and then you're like, yeah, we
get the draft next year, like oh okay, no to
the NFL draft. So Green Bay is a city of
roughly one hundred thousand people. A couple of hundred thousand
people in the if you like Drew, a big you know,
twenty five miles for comference of the city, and then
you have the Fox Valley which has like a million people,

(19:47):
but it is a that's a that's a big area,
big area Oshkosh, and you know, you go down to Appleton,
et cetera, other areas in between. But this the city
is built for football games. One of the reasons I
like living here so much is that there's never any traffic, zero,

(20:11):
no traffic at all. And that lack of traffic is
because it's built for one hundred thousand people to come
in for a football game. The problem with this is
there's like two hundred and fifty to three hundred thousand
people that are coming in for the draft. So they've
made a perimeter around lambeau Field, and starting at some

(20:36):
point next week, you can't get in, can't get out
unless you have like a ticket and a pass, and
whenever you can't drive in there, but there'll be all
kinds of transportation around. It's really neat. It's really neat,
but it's also not for it's It's an event that's

(20:56):
three times what this city is used to absorbing, and
it's going to be fascinating. And maybe the most interesting
player to be drafted this upcoming week is Travis Hunter.
It's Travis Hunter, and according to CBS Sports, Travis Hunter
said that he made it clear if an NFL team

(21:20):
told him they'd only allow him to play wide receiver
or cornerback, Hunter wouldn't play football at all. It's never
playing football again because I've been doing it all my
life and I love being on the football field. I
feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball,
so I'm really enjoying doing it. Look as a guy

(21:41):
who's trying to do two things at once, I will
tell you that if something goes wrong on one side
of the ball, they're going to blame the fact that
you two sides of the ball. I also think that
in year one it might not matter as much as
we think, and they might pass up him by allowing
him to play some wide receiver and give him some

(22:04):
more value. But the idea that he's going to spend
all that time in meetings rooms learning offensive and defensive schemes,
I think that's far fetched. I think there's a middle
ground there. John Harbaugh is head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
He had this to say about the challenge of playing

(22:25):
both ways.

Speaker 7 (22:26):
It's gonna be interesting to see how they do it
wherever he goes. But to say that you're going to
be completely immersed in everything that there is a known
offense and everything there is a known defense, I don't
know if there's enough hours in the day for a
player to be able to do that and to have
every detailed lockdown, but you certainly can do it. I
would think on one side of the ball and then
have some sort of a package on the other side

(22:47):
of the ball, Which is my guess is how the
team will.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Do it wherever he goes. Yeah, I think that's reasonable.
I do think that we're overdoing it a bit and
we're like, yeah, that won't. I mean, look, even Lamar Jackson,
remember he didn't want to play or line up as
wide receiver, go back, and look when Joe Flacco was
the starting quarterback, his rookie year before Lamar took over,
and you'll be interested to note that there was a

(23:11):
couple of plays in which Lamar Jackson was lined up
at wide receiver. Everybody says they don't want to do
something until there's a big paycheck telling them they could
do it. And for Travis Hunter, my guess is they
pick which side of the ball they wanted to be on,
probably defensive back. They give him, you know, they give

(23:31):
him a set of plays that he needs, a node,
he's a memorized. He's to learn to reads and it
fills up his day and maybe fills up his cup.
But the end they'll say, look, if you play both sides,
you're not elite at either. If you're elite at one,
now of a sudden, your next contract is nine figures.
And my guess is that would that'll do it. You're

This is what I mean about conspiracy theories. Now, now
I've gotten into this vortex of uh did you see

(24:19):
is it Blue Origin?

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yeah, the thing yesterday, the space thing where they go
up into space for ten seconds?

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Yes, it was. It was it three minutes, four minutes?
How long? Jayse dou This seems like right up your alley.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
Eleven minutes. They spent eleven minutes in space and they
all came back claiming it was an achievement for women.
It was the fiance of a hundreds of billionaire and
her buddies who all make eight figures themselves. I don't
know how much of it an achievement.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
It was Katy Perry.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Katy Perry kissed the ground like you're up there for
eleven minutes. I mean, I guess, like you know, people
have died on space expiration and stuff.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
But that was That was the best meme I saw that.
Gail King said that Katie Perry sung in space, and
the meme said, no, wonder they came back so quick?

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Why gosh?

Speaker 1 (25:20):
I mean they did. It was like like at Charlie's Angels.
They did all look hot getting off the plane, right,
Like whether or not you're into yeah, I'm not into
Katy Perry or anything, but they all have these super
tight like space suits on that. I mean again, part
of it is I'm not sure what the space suits
would do if something went wrong anyway, but they did

(25:42):
not look like astronauts in any way.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
It seems like Golorn Sanchez is allergic to not showing cleavage.
She did it at Trump's what do you call that?
When when you're when you're signed in what do you do? Anyways?

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Inauguration?

Speaker 3 (25:59):
You it started this by saying that you're falling into
a some kind of a conspiracy theory thing, and then
you brought up that space mission.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Uh yeah, I just again, we were talking about conspiracy
theories of the Dallas Mavericks leaving and then I'm like,
see here's another one. Like our world is more full
of of of conspiracy theories on everything. Not everything is
a conspiracy. I have no idea of Blue Origins went
into space for eleven or zero minutes, but it seems
like a huge ruse to fake it.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
So the conspiracy theory is that they didn't do this
launch or go into space, that this was filled on
a sound stage a coin or something, and.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
That comes from people thinking that Neil Armstrong's original Moonwalk
was conspiracy right, made for TV?

Speaker 2 (26:52):
And did he was it Neil arm No, I think
it was buzz Aldron. Buzz Aldron was actually confronted once
by one of those conspiracy theories. Yea, hecaus Aldred butts
the guy out.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah that's awesome, that's so good.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
But then the conspiracy about the punch out is, does
do you want to silence the guy for telling the truth?

Speaker 1 (27:11):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yeah, I mean conspiracy theory on top of one that's incredible.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Yes, conspiracy theory on top of aar theory. Here's here's
Josh Crunky okay, and Josh Crunkie he's the owner in
the president right, it's like his dad owned it. I
think he's the president and owner now. He offered up
this and explaining why his decision to fire Mike Malone

(27:35):
and Calvin Booth during the last week of the regular.

Speaker 8 (27:38):
Season was an incredibly tough decision for us for a
lot of levels. But I think at the very end
of the day, was a very tough decision because of
the amount of respect that I personally have and that
we as an organization have for both of what those
gentlemen did for us while they were here, brought us
our first championship. To be frank, neither of them deserved it,
and so for that, I apologize for my position. You know,

(27:59):
as a leader the organization, I needed to be better.
At different points in time. I could see certain trends
behind the scenes with the group. Those were worrisome. But
when you have an incredibly talented roster that we have
an incredibly solid group across the board of people, you're
able to play through some of that. And so ultimately,
you know, I made the decision that I did last
week with the hope of kind of rejuvenating the energy

(28:20):
of the group, and it's reestablishing some positive thoughts before
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Yeah, I mean, obviously they're trying to spark the team,
but why would you say they they didn't deserve to
be fired. And again, I maybe we're getting we'll get
caught up in the semantic stuff. Well, they deserve to
be fired. We're just trying to spark the team. Okay, Well,
if you couldn't spark the team and you couldn't get

(28:48):
them playing to their level, did you deserve to be fired?
They stopped listening to you did. You deserve to be fired,
even if there wasn't one thing that you did. But
I think part of it is like you're just not
allowed to say, hey, it wasn't working. And you know,

(29:14):
we think we have a pretty good team. We think
have a chance. This gives us a different look at it,
and if that doesn't work, we'll find something that does.
Our job is to make it work. That wasn't working,
they weren't working together. Well, you know, there are absolutely
I've had these discussions myself with my own staff. Guys
can be good at their jobs individually, but if they

(29:36):
can't work together, it doesn't matter. It's the same thing
as a basketball team, your basketball staff at your front office.
But the neither guy deserved to be fired and then
the apology for it that just that sounds weird and disingenuous.

tell you guys this, the best part of the show
today is all the discussions over stuff. It just is.

(30:38):
We don't always do it that way, but I think
sometimes when you come out a show with a single
focused kind of intention or opinion, when I don't think
we can speak for everybody. You know, I we started

(30:58):
the show talking about them. And what's interesting is, you
know j Stu is very very passive as NBA viewing.
He'll watch only because he has to, and then once
we get into the real media games, he'll watch Profet obviously,
mister Detroit. He'll watch anything Pistons I think, pretty avid
sports fan. And then Ilo acts like he doesn't pay attention,

(31:20):
but I know he does. Although like j Stu, more
prone to pay attention to things LA than he is
to pay attention to things outside of LA me. You know,
I like the NBA, I do, and I'm excited to
have meaningful games on TV. It's been missing since the
NCAA tournament ended a week and a day ago, but

(31:41):
it just it just hasn't hit the mark at all
for me. It's just another way of doing the same
thing they've always done, or a different way of doing
something they've always done. We'll get back to that, but
first let's get to the press.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Press, all right, Doug. A lot of general managers and
making news today, including in the NFL, where Miami Dolphins
GM Chris Greer said today that they are seeking to
trade star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
Jalen did not ask for a trade, so we went
through the process and just felt that after numerous conversations
and then talking last week with Jalen and his agent,
it was best to move forward and it was best
interest of the Miami Dolphins and for Jalen ramsey career.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Adding the Dolphins not presently having trade talks regarding Tyreek.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Hill, which is weird. Another Tyreek Hill, some sort of
domestic incident, whatever, but Jalen Ramsey, this is kind of
part for the course, right. Oh yeah, he's been on
three or four teams.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Now, I can look it up for you. I'll look
it up for you. But I think I was thinking
the exact same thing.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
I think this is four. I think I think this
is team four. He was on the Jags, right, that's
who drafted him. Then did he go directly to the Rams.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
No, believe it or not, it's only his third team.
He went Jacksonville Rams, Dolphins.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Yeah, only three. It would be his four team he's traded.
But again, all of them are like, he's really good,
he's really talented, but we're gonna trade him. Yeah. My
guess is that there's a contract demand out there that
about a new contract that they don't want to go to.
They're gonna That's how they're gonna move him.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
So for most of the day we've been talking about
this bizarre and bizarrely handled Nico Harrison press conference. But
I mentioned earlier there was one more component that is
starting to gain a lot of traction on social media.
The term Monte Ellis is trending right now around the
world on social media. So this news conference wasn't just

(33:55):
Nico Harrison. It included Rick Welts, longtime, highly regarded an
NBA executive, long time with Golden State. Right now he's
the Mavericks CEO. And according to NBA reporter Tim Cato,
who was covering it, Welts compared the Mavericks trading Doncic away,
So the Warriors trading away Monte Ellis for Andrew Boga

(34:17):
back in twenty twelve.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
I actually get that. I understand what he means, and
I don't think his point is Monte Ellis was super,
super popular and scoring wise, super productive, and they traded
him for Andrew Boget, who was just a big guy.
And Andrew Bogant I don't think he ever averaged even
ten points a game. But when they won their first title,

(34:42):
Andrew Boga was their center. When they fell apart being
up three games to one in their lead against the Calves,
that coincided with Andrew Boga getting hurt. And his point
is that they made a trade for a really talented
basketball player for someone who they think is going to
help them win, have a greater impact on winning a championship.

(35:03):
And when he trade Montellis at twenty a game for
Andrew Bogat at eleven a game, people freak out. I
actually think it's a pretty accurate parallel if you look
at it from that perspective.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
This is a purely rhetorical question. But don't you think
those comments would have come across better to the fans
if the Mavericks had allowed audio and camera recordings of
the news conference, so Welt's comments could be heard for themselves,
much like the way your comments just did, which made

(35:33):
a lot of sense.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
No, because people will take the video and go like, oh,
you're comparing Luca to Montellis okay, Luca to Montelis sure,
because they don't understand what he's saying. Now, could he
spend time and expound upon it? Of course he can't.
Of course he can't, like I just did. But that's
not how TV works with the clips. So I don't

(35:57):
think that would have happened in terms of how it
would have been repurposed.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
And that wraps up this GM heavy edition of the
press they get out there and pressed.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
That was the press. It's the Doug Gottlieb Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. So two NBA games to night, Atlanta, Orlando, Memphis,
Golden State. These games usually when you have the teams
that just slide into those seeds. You know that that
we're expected to finish higher. They usually end up in
a in a blowout, but the Hawks did just beat

(36:33):
the Magic. I'm gonna take the Hawks and the Warriors.
