over ten thousand recommended sallars tyrack dot com. Uh Sway
tire buying should be Hey, welcome in Hope. You're having
a great day. Now I'll listen. You're too kind, You're
(00:51):
really too kind, and like, here's generally the way sports
radio shows work is, you know especial ours is you
get up in the morning and you watch sports last night.
I mean, we're creeping into the last weekend of the
regular season the NBA. Of course, here we are with
this with the second round of the Masters taking place.
(01:13):
So you're looking for kind of a lead story and
I don't know you hop on the phone, you try
and figure something out. What is this lead worthy? Is
that lead worthy? How does this sound? How does that sound?
And I was thinking earlier today and Jason's like, it's
a really good point, Like, hey, you know, we haven't
(01:34):
realized that there's at least a portion of there's the
probability has to be creeping closer and closer to fifty
percent that Aaron Rodgers is never going to play football again.
And you know, it's fascinating because I think a lot
(01:58):
of us, and by us, I would say us in
the media have grown frustrated by Aaron and the idea
that he kind of holds this thing hostage, right, like
are we really going to wait for Aaron Rodgers to
ride in on his white horse? And the more that
you watch teams make decisions about their quarterbacks and making
(02:22):
other decisions, or even the Steelers bringing in Shador Sanders
or Schador Sanders, people saying hey, he'd loved those meetings,
he was really comfortable. And then we factor in that
there was an internet rumor which I bought into, that
he was going to announce on Pat McAfee's show, which
was live in Pittsburgh, and it was some sort of
variety show that he was coming to Pittsburgh. He did not.
(02:46):
And in the all time, what's the word I'm looking for,
inauspicious endings to a career, we may be seeing one
here with Aaron Rodgers, because I think at his core
he has never wanted to be what so many of
(03:08):
these veteran quarterbacks are, which is, you know, bounced team
to team. I'm gonna look Joe Flacco again and not
let's not even say that Joe Flacco is. He's not
a Hall of Famer, He's not in anywhere near the
conversation Maaron Rodgers. But he is a Super Bowl champion quarterback.
And Joe Flacco has made the cognitive choice a couple
(03:28):
of years ago to be okay with being the ever
president veteran backup collecting you know, several million dollars a
year with low expectations of playing, and then be ready
to play when he does get an opportunity. That happens
to a lot of these guys. We've said it before,
or at least I have that. I don't see Russell
Wilson ever wanted to be a backup. Like the fact
(03:51):
that Russell Wilson signed with the Giants must have told
me that they said he's going to be their starting quarterback,
and oh yeah, by the way, to me, that means
the Giants aren't serious about winning games. They're just gonna
run it and try and control the ball and kind
of manage him. But again, Russell Wilson has gone from
the Seahawks, to the Broncos, to the Steelers, now to
(04:15):
the Giants. Right, that's that team hopping that only happens
at the end of your career. And I've never thought
that Aaron was that guy. I still don't think Aaron's
that guy. And it feels like he must be done,
Like he just couldn't get himself to the point to
where he's excited enough to just go, this is what
(04:35):
I'm gonna do. And if you can't, like we're two
weeks away from the NFL Draft, if he hasn't made
a decision, you know, in two weeks every team is
going to select, probably on the second day, a quarterback
that they feel like will eventually be viable. And then
once you have a couple of quarterbacks on your roster,
(04:56):
you're not gonna add Aaron Rodgers because if you were
going to add Aaron Rodgers, there would have been more
teams that were reaching out to him than have reached
out to him. And you know, this is a it's
always an in Johnny Uniteds obviously famously was he was
a charger when it came to an end, right, But
(05:20):
Troy Aikman was not. That was ended because of concussions. Uh.
You go and look at Hall of Fame quarterbacks and
it's about a fifty to fifty. Do they stick with
one team, one or two teams and then right off
in the sunsets or they do to the five to
six team sort of deal. This is probably one of
the most, if not the most inauspicious ending to a
(05:43):
first ballot Hall of Fame career we've ever seen for
a quarterback. And yet we don't actually know that it's ended.
I'm just guessing because we haven't heard from him yet.
Jay Stu, what what does is there a is there
a music cool or some other reminder in terms of
retirement that went this way where all of a sudden,
(06:05):
somebody just because it does feel like Aaron Rodgers is
going to just drop off to face the earth whenever
he starts playing.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, I don't know. I was just looking at a
list of guys that bounced around, and so Joe Namas
was another one of the Rams United. You had mentioned
Michael Vick was a Steeler. Does anyone remember that? Yeah,
he was a Steeler. I'm looking at a picture of
him right now. Brett Favre, I think I think that's
(06:37):
that's another angle here. I think that's.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Almost he was almost a Viking and then the Vikings
seemed to cool off on that idea.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
But Brett farm has a successful third act. Yeah, I
think that's what Aaron's holding out for. He wants. He
wants a successful third act like Brett did. But it
is it's unusual. You think that is the opposite of cliches,
being a cliche, Like, he probably goes out of his
way not to be predictable or a cliche, but this
is what quarterbacks do at the end of their careers.
(07:09):
Healthy ones. Anyways, Philip Rivers is another one.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, Philip Rivers went to Indie. Do you go anywhere else? Uh?
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Maybe not?
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Yeah, that's interesting. And I think the weird part about
it is we seem to know, we seem to feel
like we know everything about people nowadays, know what they're
going to do before they do it. And yet with him,
we have no idea without a clue. And so again
(07:42):
I'm not saying he's done. It just feels like, Okay,
Pittsburgh welcomed you in, you toured the facility, and we
thought there'd be some announcement. There isn't. Now they're taking
other visits from Shador Sanders and who knows who else
is he calling it quits? And anyone who says they know,
(08:04):
I don't think they do know. I think that's and
that's exactly how he wants it. Just super weird.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
What did the Steelers owners say at the meetings a
couple of weeks ago, the.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Take all the time he wants, but we need to speak.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Willed to wait a little bit O then yeah? Yeah,
but not forever, No.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Not forever.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
How we reach forever? That's the question. How long is forever? Forever?
Is not forever?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Ever?
Speaker 1 (08:30):
You know how long is forever? It's a great question.
Does anybody know how long forever is? In the Steelers,
in the in the Steelers' minds, I don't think so. Uh.
I don't know. If you had to guess, does he
play this year? My answer is probably not right is
(08:53):
I think no, so, But I just I have no idea, Sam,
what do you what do you think?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I think when we have Rogers' name and him as
a topic in the sporting media, he likes that. So
whether he's holding out for like the best opportunity for him,
it works out either way because he's he's his name
is relevant and it's out there. I do think he'll
play this year. I think he'll sign with the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
But again, why hasn't he done it already? And I
know you don't know. I don't know either, But again,
like I'm just trying to hypothesize, like if he wanted
to play for the Steelers, why hasn't he played for
the Steelers?
Speaker 4 (09:36):
It's a great question. I just I just think that
whether whatever he's working on the background, he comes up
just like right now as a topic and we're talking
about him, is relevant. He's okay with that, He's okay
with taking his time. But I don't know, I don't
know why isn't Why would the news work.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
We're kind of out of time, aren't we.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, because if you don't get Aaron Rodgers, then you
gotta go, Hey, we're gonna have to then they may
have said, we're gonna already draft our quarterback, but there's
no other veterans of substance that are out there. And
when you're Mike Tomlin and you're you may not be
at the end, but you're creeping towards the end. You
don't want to have a kid play quarterback, or maybe
(10:16):
you do, but you're gonna have to kind of surround
him with a different cast. It does it. Literally, one
guy does change everything everything.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
So you think it'll either be a young quarterback or Rogers.
And I mean, is Mason Rudolph. He's not, probably not
the answer for the whole year. I think he's the
name in there in pencil right now, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
He's the placeholder. He's a placeholder. Mason's fine, Mason's gonna
let him to the playoffs a couple years ago. But if it's
not Aaron Rodgers, now, all of a sudden, okay, we
got to draft some young guys, probably on the second
day draft one, maybe even two, and Mason Rudolf becomes
your starter, and it looks very different than if Aaron
Rodger your starter.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah, those are drastically that fork in the road you
go down drastically different avenues there.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Yeah, here's a Shadora Sanders. He was on with Kay
Adams and he said this about his Steelers visit.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
I enjoyed my.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
Time very I think I connect the row with all
the coaches and those real fun I understand the mindset
it and why they went a lot, just how he
is the first and you know just the value that
the team has and where he threaches from his stup down.
It's similar show.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Like my day. So remember she do or Sanders, who
wasn't going to go visit a bunch of people, Now
he's going to visit a bunch of people. So maybe
it signifies his stock his stock slipping, and it might
signify that either the Steelers are trying to motivate Aaron Rodgers.
Hey dude, you don't take it. We got to move on,
or they're trying to plan to not have Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (11:45):
This is the best of the Doug gott Leeb Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Swarts Radio. Ah, watching
somebody's ball roll into the water. That looks familier, that
looks familiar, Sat Bernhard Longer, and we want to talk
about Bernhard Longer. Then he just want to hit one
of the drink. So we're gonna go to Dan Byer
(12:15):
shortly he's he's at home. This is what he does
if you're just joining us. Dany is not like our
most avid golfer and golf fan, but he loves this
event and so he takes to the first two days
off of work, sits his house, puts it on, a
bunch of TVs, does stuff, does twas work whatever, takes
care of Brody and watches the Masters, and like busman's holiday,
(12:37):
he will hop on with us and tell us what's
going on. Kind of cool. We're efforting to get him
read efforting to get him. Obviously he's very concerned with
Bernhard Longer's lie now that he's gonna have to drop
brought Roy McElroy has had a very good second day,
so his Bryson Shambeau and Scottie Scheffler Justin Rose still
(12:58):
remains atop of the field. We're getting all that with
Dan Buyer upcoming here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Stug Gottlieb Show, You're on Fox Sports Trade.
Let's welcome in our good friend Dan Buyer, who's uh,
you've heard of Butler's cabin? Have you heard of Buyer's cabin?
It broadcasting night for buyers?
Speaker 3 (13:18):
A nice said, Buyer's cabin, isn't it? Is that your
mug or my mug? Doug? Is that? I think that's mine?
Speaker 1 (13:28):
It's yours.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
It's delicious, it's the vodka.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Senate.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
I'm watching Freddy Couples kind of hang around here. Is
he's one over now? Seems like he's he's fading a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
I'd love for Freddy Couples to be the story, and
he was a little bit yesterday with his with his
chip ends. But Freddie Couples isn't even the oldest guy
in his sixties to be the story right now. I
mean Freddy's at sixty five. Yeah. Bernard Longer's sixty seven,
(14:03):
turns sixty eight this summer announced he's going to be
playing in his last Masters this week. This could be
his final round, and he right now is hovering around
the cut line. I only say that because he just
put it in the water on fifteen, but he was
even pared through fourteen holes today and the cut line
(14:24):
is sitting there at plus two. So even if Bernhard
is able to get up and down for a bogie,
he's still on the right side of the cut line.
And for a guy that's sixty seven years old, closer
to sixty eight than he is sixty six, I mean,
cheez crazy, considering just the state of the game, the
(14:44):
state of this course, he hits it like two thirty.
He set off the tee, So I mean he's it's
crazy of what Bernhard Longer is doing, but he's going
to battle to make the cut. But he and Freddy
have been a good story and when I think it's
been a really good master so far.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Uh okay, let's talk about Rory's comeback. I'm looking at
him atop leaderboard. What happened.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
What happened yesterday was basically a couple of bad shots.
The chip on fifteen was the killer, But otherwise, if
you look at what he did for a majority of
his whole round, he was really really solid. So to
leave at even par I think a lot of us
thought Rory's going to be dejected, He's not going to
be able to bounce back from this. Considering Justin Rose
(15:29):
was sitting there in the lead at seven unders, so
you're seven shots back of the lead, and then he
comes out today and doesn't make any of the mistakes
that he made on fifteen seventeen yesterday, and today plays
flawless golf, shoots six hundred sixty six and is now
in the thick of things. And I think that you
could argue that he is playing the best golf of
(15:52):
anybody in this field right now, including the leader, Justin Rose,
and including bryceon de Shambeau's supperers sandwiched in between Rose
and Rory. It truly was two bad shots for Rory
McElroy yesterday that just put him behind the eight ball,
and I think a lot of us just felt maybe
Rory's got the fragile mind. He's been working with, you know,
(16:15):
this famed sports psychologist Bob Rotella, and it apparently really
helped Rory because he was he was spot on today,
not a blemish on the scorecard, and now absolutely in
the thick of things.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Steut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trader, that's the
voice of our good friend. Dan Byer is our who's
our resident everything when it comes to the Masters. I'm
looking at the leader board. Bryson's at seven under, seven
under sixty eight in the clubhouse. How's he play?
Speaker 3 (16:49):
It's played very well. And this is the scary part
of it for Rory as it could be deja vous
all over again from the US Open that happened at
Pinehurst where Bryson was able to was able to best
Rory and had that great shout out of the sand
on the seventy second hole and made his spot something
that Rory wasn't able to do at Pinehurst last summer.
(17:13):
And it's this is where the live PGA tour stuff
really kind of really comes into focus, Doug, because yeah,
it's gonna be awesome if these two are battling down
the stretch again. But this is what we're missing then
throughout the rest of the season is then Deshamba goes
his way, Rory goes his way. They reconvene at the PGA,
(17:35):
then they separate again, and then they come back at
the US Open. This could be a rivalry that we see.
I mean, Bryson's been in contention, maybe should have won
the PGA last year when Xander Schaffley ended up winning
the first of his two majors, but so Bryson bounced
back from that almost win at the PGA and won
the US Open, and you would have this rivalry with
(17:57):
he and Rory going head to head. I would expect
many of people in looking at the weekend to say,
it's either going to be Bryson, It's either gonna be Rory,
or it's gonna be Scotti Scheffler, who is still in
the thick of things. But this is this is the
part that stinks about the Live split. And I do
think that that Bryson stays motivated. I'm not sure like
(18:19):
John Ram has gone the other way with his game
and in signing Live, and a lot of people have
talked about how Ram's kind of fallen off the map
when he was world number one at one point, where
Live hasn't been good for him. I do think that
it's been good for Bryson in the way where he's
able to do other things. He still stays competitive, but
he does his YouTube stuff, does his social media stuff,
(18:40):
can tinker as much as he wants, and he's completely
revamped his image. But he's been He's been a story
in golf in the last year or so because of
what he's done in these majors, and you have to
consider him a threat at Augusta as a legit, legit guy,
considering her one shot off the lead. He only had
one blemish on his score card today, Bogiet sixteen. Otherwise
(19:02):
it's just be pretty darn near solid golf for Bryson
to Shamba the whole way.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
All right, sets up for a great weekend, right, I
mean you have big names atop, I mean Justin Rose
Bryson to Shambeau and uh and Rory McElroy, Roy macro Scotti,
Scheffler atop that and this is kind of dream scenario
a little bit going into the weekend. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yeah, this is also a secret of the Masters.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yeah, there's no secret.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
There's no no names, correct, there's it's a limited field
where a US Open you're gonna have one hundred and
fifty six guys in it. This year they had ninety
five players in the Masters, and they felt that it
was a larger field than other years. Some years they've
been in the high eighties. And when you consider when
you consider Fred Gubbles and Bernard Longer, who we talked about,
(19:53):
off the top, realistically those guys aren't in contention. There's
usually a handful of amateurs now and again Sam Bennett
a couple of years ago contended, but the amateurs aren't
necessarily contending. Sure, so when you look at the field,
maybe there's sixty guys that have a chance, maybe like
two thirds of the field, and this allows like the
(20:14):
Stars and the Cream to rise to the top. It's
a sneaky way of doing it that I don't think
a lot of people realize. But it always provides great
drama and Masters and Augusta National could do whatever they want,
and it provides just great theater and this is one
of it. Look at all the names. Heck, Justin Rose
(20:34):
is gonna be a great story in his mid forties.
He's gonna have all of the old guys like you
and me maybe pulling for him to get that one
last last chance to get the green jacket. So, yeah,
it's gonna be a great weekend with this point.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Yeah, it should be. Any any issues at the weather.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
No, So there was a little weather warning sign that
popped up earlier because there were storms in the area,
but there shouldn't be anything. Sunny skies, beautiful weekend set
to uh set to take place, So it sets up
pretty well. Looks like Bryson will probably be in that
last group with Justin Rose with Rory gonna be in
the second to last pairing going out tomorrow. Extended TV
(21:13):
coverage Doug. For those that have Paramount Plus, they're gonna
be starting two hours earlier on the streaming service of
coverage and then they'll switch over to CBS both Saturday
and Sunday. So yeah, it should should be a great
weekend with whether or not being an issue. Shouldn't be
super hot, it's not gonna be cold, no rain. It's
(21:34):
gonna be a good one, Doug. I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Should be a good one. Well, listen, enjoy the couple
days off. I know we'll hear you on Sunday. Uh,
you do work on Sunday, right, so you get to yes,
get to be on the radio during during Masters, I.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Will be broadcasting live from Buy your Cabin Cabin Sunday.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Great interviews with Buyer Cabin there just really you get
a sense of what the Masters are really like. When
you spend some time in Buy your Cabin.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
You're gonna go chop some wood, get it ready for
the fight place for this weekend, and enjoy the golf.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Definitely, enjoy your family, enjoy the golf. Thanks so much.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Dan. Thanks Doug.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Dan Byer from Buyer Cabin A tradition unlike any other.
You guys do know that a golf termament is like
the world's worst thing to go and see right, like
it's beautiful, but yeah, it's like chasing a moving target.
(22:32):
You either walk around and walk with guys that you
think are good are going to be good, and again
you have no control of whether they are good or
not good, or you then PLoP yourself down at one
hole and then you see how every player plays that
one hole and yeah, I know there's some movement in between.
And once you get to be an expert or whatever,
(22:54):
but you're going to the masters. You know, you finally
get one of those masters back and then you got
to make that decision what do I do now, Jase
dou have you ever been to a golf tournament?
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Yeah, many times?
Speaker 1 (23:11):
And then what do you do?
Speaker 2 (23:11):
It falls in the category of I like, if I'm
in good company and I have a beer in my hand,
I could enjoy anything, and you get some exercise, you
get some sun. So the actual, the actual golf. I
don't know enough about golf to be impressed with golf
or whatever, but I do like the experience, you know.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Yeah, my issue with watching golf is I play golf.
I know, a little golf, not a lot. But for
whatever reason, golfer guy has a tendency to kind of
over share their golf opinion or narrate the golf when
you're sitting there and watching it. My buddy Scott is
having people over this afternoon, just redid his house. He
(23:57):
lives on a lake. Right, He's like, come over, let's
watch Masters. And the problem is like they're really really golfers,
Like what is he in a seven from there? No
way he's hitting a seven. It's just like a conversation
that I can like, is that good? Is that bad?
Is that risky? Is that cool? You know, Oh he's
sitting in a seven? Or you just pretend like you
(24:18):
know what they're talking about. Oh he's hitting a seven
from there? He's hitting a seven from there?
Speaker 4 (24:22):
You know a person, I'd go with a four wood.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Yes, I would go with the four.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
I'd mix up the lingo and like say like a
four wood or something weird. That's doesn't make sense in.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Many In many ways, it does go back to what
we've talked about with hockey guy. And WNBA girl whatever,
where we don't really know what you're you're about your sport,
and then when we do pay attention to it, we
seem to get chastised for not knowing about your sport
even though we're trying to learn about it. I don't know,
I just feel like golf guy, Oh, golf guy also
has a tendency to relay it to their own personal course,
(24:54):
or maybe they want a humble brag that they played
Augusta once. You know when I played Augusta. Yeah, great,
you knew somebody, you got on the course, you spent
a bajillion dollars and it was not tricked out like
it is for the Masters. But by all means share
with me your thoughts on the same golf course, albeit
with a completely different golfer. Sorry if I'm ranting and raving,
(25:15):
but I just my thing with golf is like for Dan,
he does a great job of being very normal and
but a lot of times whide wouldn't want to go
to a golf tournament as you're sitting there and there's
a bunch of guys and they're just like saying things
that I don't know what they're talking about. Can you
believe he's using a seven there.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
I just be there to socialize quietly.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
I'llbeit, how do you socialize? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
I mean he's moving around, everyone's moving around. But you're
in a big cluster of people, and like Jason said,
you're out amongst the trees, the beautiful landscaping. I got
a beer. I was wandering around, getting progressively more intoxicated.
It sounds like a wonderful afternoon to me, just out
in though, as long as it's not too muggy down
there in AUGUSTA.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
No, it's not muggy now it's April.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Dan says it can get muggy. He did say that
it can be days where it's quite humid, even in April.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
But he has warm that stuff looks good right now.
April humidity feels good, especially if you come out of
the college. You're like, man, I heat me up. I landed,
I did I recruit. I was recruiting a kid in
South Carolina last week before we went to the Final four,
and I was like, this feels amazing. This feels amazing.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
That's why I like the winter's out here in California.
The summer is a little too hot. A little too hot.
But the winter out here, it's like sixties, fifties, seventies.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
It's great.
Speaker 6 (26:29):

What Up, Dog God Light, Shoe Bute. But but oh so,
as we as we get into this new era of
college sports where athletes can be paid and they're paid
above the table. Now they're also being paid by the
(27:00):
actual universities, right, that's what the the what we're planning
with the opting into the settlement that's supposed to be
signed sometime this week means that you can sign what's
called Revshare agreement with the student athlete and then you
can provide additional nil if you want, or you can,
(27:24):
or you can uh not, you don't have to. So
this happened. Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Nico uh i'm a leva,
who's their starting quarterback started last year as a freshman,
did not attend spring practice today. Sources told ESPN. His
absence came as a surprise to coach and players. According
(27:46):
to sources, uh Iamaalva has been in conversations with the
Balls about a new NIL contract. On Thursday, on three
reported that he and the NIL collective at tennis See
we're working on a new contract. Several other quarterbacks, including
Miami's Carson Beck and Duke's Darien Menza, have signed NIL
(28:07):
deals for specifically for significantly more money this offseason. I
am a Leva was looking to renegotiate his deal. The
situation has been a growing source of frustration among administrators
at Tennessee and within the locker room. Yeah, it's one
of those This is where we really need to end
(28:31):
the chaos of it, and there has to be a
way where contracts can be binding. You know, so many
people will say, well, you got to sign guys to
coute to your contracts with buyouts. Great, we'd love to
the problem with it is, what's going to make those
kids other than we can hold onto their transcripts. If
we hold on their transcript somebody's going to make us
(28:53):
look like we're the worst people on earth. So you
can sign a guy to a contract and then and
he can get out of it. And in this particular case,
I believe as a quarterback he has a deal. Other
people's deals aren't bigger than his so he wants the
therapist deal. This is where anybody who says it's pro
(29:15):
sports does not understand. No, it's not. If it was
pro sports, you'd sign a multi year contract with no
ability to negotiate. This is like some version of au
slash European Basketball Sports. But that's crazy, right, Like you
play a year, you go through spring practice like yet
you know, not worth more money. So I'm just gonna
hold out. Mark Dominic joins us spent over spent over

manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joins us in

Rodgers felt like it was trending the way of him
becoming a Steeler, and then time keeps passing and now nothing.
We're two weeks out from from the draft. When is
(30:23):
the moment that you have to know if you're gonna
have Aaron Rodgers, who started quarterback? If you're the Steelers.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
Front office, yeah, you know, Doug and thank having me
on again. You know, we're what we've We've got the
OTAs coming up to them. You know that are aren't
too far from the Pittsburgh Steelers. And as much as
we'll see how that works out, I think you're going
to have to have this decision part of the draft.
I think it's only fair to the Steelers that I
would say by Monday or Tuesday of the draft week,
(30:53):
which is right around the corner. Sure, it's kind of
when you kind of need that drop to answer, like
what do you want to do? Because it's going to
depend on what we're going to do in the draft.
And I think that's a very fair thing to ask
for of Aaron Rodgers and his team. Again, I sit
back the same way you probably feels like you've had
now four months, you know, three months at least to
(31:15):
think about do I want to play again? Where do
I want to play again? What do I want to
play for? It shouldn't take much more to say do
you want to play? Don't you want to play? Every
time I don't hear something, Doug, it makes me feel
more and more right now, like maybe maybe Aaron really
just doesn't want to play, and maybe he has done.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
But I uh.
Speaker 7 (31:33):
You know, Pittsford giving me every indication of being patient,
like Tommins give me every indication of being patient. But
it's a it's a surprise. I still think he becomes
a Pittsburgh Steelers, but I think it has to happen
before the draft.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Absolutely has to happened for the draft. Leader's any to me,
there's there's no question about that. Okay, cam ward so
go one.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
Yeah, they'll give you every indication that he's number one pick.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
They've done nothing in terms of bringing quarterbacks into the organization,
working quarterbacks out. They didn't look at any of the
usual suspects. I don't see that there's any other way
that that's that's got to be the number one pick
in the draft is cam Warden. And I think that's
sign Field delivered.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, it does it sure seems that way. So then
where's should or go?
Speaker 7 (32:21):
Yeah, I think Shadur is kind of that one that
you know, whether he falls down, and it's like in
that New Orleans Saints where people are starting to put
them a little bit the Jets or to fall a
little bit further than that. But it sure feels like
the Giants are kind of like not sure. Cleveland obviously
with Joe Flacco and what they've done at the quarterback
spot makes me feel like they're not sure even though
(32:43):
they still can draft. I mean, any of these keeps
can still draft the quarterback and still have another player,
obviously because the quarterback contract is so much more affordable.
But I think Shader probably drops somewhere that's in the
nine ten eleven range with one of these slubs that
you can trade back and still this should and I
think that's kind of where it feels like he's going
to go, not just two or three spots.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Stug gotlib show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, and
then we've talked about this a bunch, But now that
we're getting closer to it, what about the other quarterbacks,
the second day quarterbacks? I mean, I think Jackson Dart
is probably on many people's list the first of the
next guys. Where do they come in? Because it does
(33:25):
feel like that's that's the sweet spot for this draft
with quarterbacks is getting those getting those second day, second
day guys and developing them where they're gonna cost you
less than those first four or five years.
Speaker 7 (33:38):
Yeah, you know, but I think Jackson Dart goes in
the first round. I feel like, yeah, I think he will.
You know, a big surprise that I've heard is by
part of two, Jalen Milroe is planning to attend the draft,
which is a big, big surprise for me. So that
can give you to think, like, why would you want
to go unless you know, you think you've got some
(33:59):
pretty good information that you might be going to the
first Where I thought Jalen might be more top of
the second. Uh, if he's going to attend the draft,
that's he's getting some strong signals from somebody that you know,
you're in good shape to be able to go to
Green Bay and hang out and not sit in the
war room overnight. So the will levis moment. So I
think I think Dark certainly goes the first in mil
(34:20):
Row if he does go to the draft, and actually
does fall through and shows up there. Then I guess
he might be more the top of the first or
right at the top of the second. But bought of
the first, right at the top of the second, I
think those are next. I think Queen Yours is in
the second round somewhere. I don't think he's a third
round or I think he'll go in the third. Excuse me,
I think he'll go in the second.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Who is Quintin Yours as a quarterback? Is he Chad Pennington?
Speaker 7 (34:43):
Yeah? I mean maybe that's a good one, you know,
the Colt McCoy of the world. But if you're looking
at the upside, you're hoping for the guy that's you know,
you know everybody likes that. I've heard in the Skin
and cir those people are comparing to Drew Lass. Now
that's not a good sign for quin yours. Is you
want to be better than Drew Lock. But I think
if you're on the upside of it, you're trying for
that guy that may not have the most powerful arm,
(35:04):
but certainly have accuracy and has the intelligence and the
charisma and all that kind of things. You're kareem scenarios
the Drew Breeses of the world. Even though that's a
heck of a reach, but I think that you're looking
at that kind of guy, it's better. But he's a
little bit better athlete than to think people realize, and
you certainly know he's battle tested. That's kind of where
I like him. That's why I like him in the
second round, and I would take him in the second
(35:25):
round because I think here's a guy that certainly has
dealt with pressure at the highest level and be able
to handle it.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Stet Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trare. That's the
voice of Mark Dominic. He joins us here as we're
creeping closer and closer to the upcoming NFL Draft. The
biggest strength of this draft is at what position?
Speaker 7 (35:46):
I think edge rushers, it's outside linebacker, head dressers. I
think by far or where you're going to see the
best strength in this draft class. I think it played
a lot of people. You know you're going to see
a lot of those guys go. Now, he's just at
the top here again to draft, but certainly in the
when we get the team in the twenties, a lot
of happy teams that are sitting there looking at these
addressers going I'm in good shape here. I'm gonna get
(36:08):
a good one that I really like. And I think
I think it's clearly those players are gonna I think,
you know, dominate the bottom of the first See when
you think about uh, Williams and Green and Pierce, I mean,
you know, there's just a lot of guys, so I
think you could have sides. If you're outside Rushers and
Ed Rodgers, I think you could have easily eight guy
(36:32):
come in the first round.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Wow, is there one that you don't like? There's one
like that? One I would stay away.
Speaker 7 (36:40):
From if I think it's what you're looking for. Uh,
I get I get a little worried about Williams out
of Georgia. He's a big guy, uh, powerful and long,
but sometimes he plays at a higher pad level, which
makes me nervous will he be as effective at the
next level or not? So if I had to be
really difficult one of these guys, I would say he's
(37:02):
a little bit scary. James Pierce brings unbelievable tool package
to work with, but you know, again, bending around the corner,
you know, that's where a private workout would be really
important for me. With James Pierce to actually watch him
drop his weight around the edge because he's going to
have to be able to get that edge. He can
do it with a fastball, right, Doug, But you've got
to be able to You've got to be able to second. Yeah,
(37:23):
you gotta have you gotta have another pitch. And and
that's where I'm worried. Does James Pierce have another pitch?
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (37:29):
That's for our private workout. Those are the lord of
private workouts are critical. So for James, you know the
speed obviously, we also have the combine work at We
just want to make sure that he can find the
other move inside with meaning dropping his inside shoulder, in
his knee and his ankles all bend at the same time.
So you can get like a like a Derek Thomas
if you if your old school, if you can think
of that or Von Miller type of move.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
So, edge rushers, oilb's whatever are the strength of this draft.
Take quarterback out of it. Numbers aren't as deep, not
as well regarded as others. But what other position is
weaker in this draft than in most previous drafts.
Speaker 7 (38:06):
Well, I think the linebacker position is very weak. If
you just look across linebackers just in general. If yeah,
jam and Walker's kind of like the he's probably best
linebacker there, and you've got Campbell obviously at the Alabama's
going to show up with, then I think it drops off.
You might not see the guy go to the third round. Son,
your prototypical linebacker, doesn't feel great. And I think even
(38:29):
at corner, it's not near as a strong corner draft
in the early parts of this draft as it has
been in the years before. So I feel like those
two positions to me feel fairly weak on the defensive side.
And then tight end, I think you've got the two
guys Tyler, Warren and Loveland are going to go fast,
and then you're not gonna see them the tight ends
come off the board. I don't think you till the
(38:50):
third round.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
So interesting, right, because it feels like there should be
a run on tight ends, that they should those guys
should just be created every year, and you look at
how important they are. And yet I've seen the same
thing in the in the draft boards. Bark Dominic's our guest,
of course, you spent years is working his way up
in the front office and ultimately becoming the GM of
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joined US weekly here in
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Help us
(39:14):
all out. So you're putting together your own draft plan.
How much of other people's draft plans play a factor
into what your draft board looks like?
Speaker 7 (39:25):
Yeah, I mean I think you know, as as you
kind of get everything settled and set up, you're certainly
looking You're only you do mock out. I mean, you
do mock drafts. I mean you've got to do that
to be prepared not just for your first round tack
but for your second round pick. So you're certainly setting
your own private or internal board in an organization of
how you think things will play out, whether that's talking
(39:46):
to agents, whether that's talking to certainly to you know, media,
people that you know that might be connected in some
way or another, but you're trying to and then you're
looking around the guys that are the people that you
see have been more consistent in their information. For one
of the things I used to do, Doug is like,
if I knew that, you know, back at the time,
that this reporter you know, really has a good relationship
(40:09):
with this team, I'm going to trust when he puts
whatever that is out there that that's probably more leaning
towards what it is. A good example that would be
like I knew Todd mcshae was really closer to Baltimore Ravens,
and so when Todd mcshage and tell me what he
thought the Ravey was doing, I was like, I'm going
to go with Todd over mail over you know whoever
else is putting out all those draft ones, because I
(40:29):
know that relationship is real, and so I would use
that to kind of mock things to get ready for
you know that round two is it's gonna be a
lot smoother for us and we're not gonna be surprised
for it's you know, do I want to go move
up to the bottom of round one because I realized
what's going to happen here at this board.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
That's that's amazing. Yeah, it's there are you everyone knows
who's connected with who, and those are the those are
the teams you pay attention to, and that it's it's
almost like a crossword puzzle, right like who if I
have this word here, I know how that I can
fill this word here?
Speaker 7 (41:01):
Mm hmm. I think it's a great way to say
if you're across from public is an absolutely really good
analogy of the way we're trying to look at it
to kind of make sure, you know, how can we
figure out what's going to happen before it happens.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
When you draft a guy, obviously there's always a scout
that has like this is his guy, this, this is
his guy.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Do you ever get to a place where you take
a guy in the late rounds and you've seen him
a little bit, but it's really just trusting your scout's
word on a guy.
Speaker 7 (41:32):
Yeah, I've done I've done it both ways, Doug. I've
done it where I like the guy, the scout had
a certain certain conviction and just was like, yeah, I
love this guy. And I've also had a scout talk
to me out of a player where it's like it's
just not going to be a good fit. And you
know that was that was a bad one for It
was Josh Norman and so he had a pretty much career,
but we were going to take him, and then the
(41:52):
scout was like, now it's not your type of guys,
you're going to get back fit. Let's go with somebody else.
And you know, sometimes it runs go ways it's not
always just a good one. It is the whole teams.
You know, that would because so many people look at
as the head coach at the final state is the GM. Look,
the reality is you've got to come to agreement. I've
been in the draft room the floor where I saw
(42:12):
the head coach at a different opinions than the general manager,
and the players were taken and both players failed because
of it. And that's just a bad spot to be.
So in the end, you're trying to come up with
a chemative pick for the whole organization. If it becomes
so polarizing, I usually took that guy out of contention
because it just didn't make sense to walk a young
player to the building where maybe this guy's staff thinking
(42:33):
the bust or the coaching staff aren't cided to coaching.
What good is that for anybody?
Speaker 1 (42:39):
All right, next week we'll get to some more draft stories.
The meantime, Mark, you're just a great resource for us.
We appreciate you, joy us look forward to talking coming
to
Speaker 7 (42:46):
That draft sounds great dog, good job to talk to
you every weekend.
