Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports Boom One Up America Doug Gottlieb
Show Fox Sports Radio coming to you live and direct
from the City of Angels. Some of you watching us
on Facebook Live, many of you listening to us on
the I Heart radio app Serious x M channel eighty
three for the first two hours of the show. I'll
steal from calling cal heard. However you may be listening.
(00:24):
Thanks for making this part of your day. Man, we
got so many things to get to. Um. The walk
on kicker who has made two kicks in his life
for USC, one to tie the game and send it
to overtime, the other to win the game against Texas,
will join us. Right Chase McGrath. There is no more
Southern California name than Chase McGrath. Right, I mean Chase
(00:47):
McGrath will hop off his either skate or surfboard and
come on over and talk about making those two kicks
at the Colisseum, which, oh yeah, by the way, the
Chargers could use as the loan chart your fan. In
the history of National Sports Radio, every game seems like
the exact same game. I feel like, do you guys
(01:07):
remember Vegas Vacation? It was they had vacations were generally good,
Right Vacation than Christmas Vacation, My wife's favorite movie of
all time, European Vacation. We started to go Astray Vegas
Vacation was terrible as Chevy Chase put on weight and
looked to age and wasn't funny anymore. But it did
have one great line, right when, why don't we go
(01:29):
out back of kicking the nuts and we'll call it
a day? Right? That was That's exactly what it feels
like to be a Charger fan. Just I know how
this thing is gonna end. Let's just go out back,
kick me in the nuts and go and pretend like
I watched the whole game. But there are way more
important Apparently, Kevin Durant is trolling people on Twitter on
fake accounts. We gotta get to that. Kyrie Irving stairs down,
(01:51):
Max Callerman, Stephen A. Smith, We gotta get to that.
Odell Beckham Jr. Expected to play tonight. We gotta get
to that. The New Orleans Saints are hot garbage. They
should start selling off pieces. If I needed a player
with all the litany of injuries, I would call Sean
pay Now. We gotta get to that. But before we do,
let's talk about the Dallas Cowboys, which I mean things
(02:13):
that could not have worked out any better for my
bosses at Fox TV. That game was delayed by an hour,
which is like great, little delayed start time for the
game that everybody was supposed to be watching. And I'll
give myself a little path in the back. I crushed
in college football four and one. What was I three
and two in the NFL? It's alright, three and two
in the NFL. You do the math, kids, when you're
(02:35):
seven and three US, I was actually five one because
I picked Oclhoma State didn't make that one of my picks,
so technically I'd be eight and three on a football weekend.
That's pretty good. But um, that game did not go
the way that many people, including Cowherd, thought it would go.
That's because that Denver Broncos defense is incredible and they
did what so many will do. They made Dak Prescott
(02:58):
beat them, and he is not ready to do it.
Here's Jason Garrett after the game. When they play that
style of defense, you have to you have to be
able to consistently attack them in the passing game at
different times. Today, I thought we were able to do that.
Other times we simply weren't. We didn't make the plays
for whatever reason. We'll go back and evaluate the tape
and hopefully get better because of it. He didn't directly
(03:19):
and smartly, he didn't directly call out Dak Prescott. Why
would you? And it's not all of Dak Prescott's fault.
As I told you last week, it's curious to me
that we seem to be missing Dez Briant, and I'm
a Dez fan. Isn't winning off the line of scrimmage
like he used to, And he didn't even win some
of those fifty jump balls that have made him a
borderline Hall of Famer like he used to Jason Witten,
(03:41):
Like how long before Jason Witten ages, I know he
had a touchdown reception, he dropped another one, But it's
not like Whitten's gonna win for you at the at
the rate that he used to win for you. And
kind of look around now and you start to all right,
Cole Beasley is kind of a mismatch guy. Get him
against the linebacker, get him against the safety on third down.
But when they couldn't on it, you started to see
(04:01):
some of the flaws and Dak. You started to see
Zeke Elliott actually quit on a play on an interception
late in the game where he doesn't even move after
the pick, and you start to see some of the
flaws in having two of your more important, if not
two of your most important players on offense be super
super young. And here's the thing about Dak. We have
this weird deal with the NFL. This is weird, right,
(04:25):
Dak Prescott was a fourth round pick. Didn't help him
that he got a d U Y shortly before the draft.
That's got to be one of the reasons that he
fell down on some people's boards. But for whatever reason,
we cheer for Dak to be better than people thought,
and we jeer Jared Goff to be worse than he
was drafted being the number one overall pick. And look,
(04:48):
I don't know how Dak plays last year with last
year's group of rams. If he's better than Jared Goff,
it would be really hard. And I don't know how
Jared Goff plays if he's a Dallas cowboy last year
as a fourth round pick. All I can tell you
is you can't will it to happen. And the one
thing we know about the national Football League is the
(05:10):
NFL stands for not for long. Anyone can do it
one year. Scott Mitchell did it one year with the
Detroit Lions. Tim Tebow did it one year coming in
for the Denver Broncos. Vince Young had one year. And
I'm not saying that I don't think that Dak is
better than v Y. He has his life more buttoned
(05:30):
up than v Y. I don't think it's there's any
question that he is. Uh, he's a better quarterback than
Tim Tebow. But he was put in the absolute perfect
situation last year with no level of expectation, surrounded by
an incredible offensive line, with a groundbreaking running back, a
(05:51):
Hall of Fame caliber tight end, wide receiver, and a
soft schedule. Now you flip it, and last week Day won.
He wasn't particularly good. He was inaccurate. Week two, they
go on the road, they get in a hole, he
can't pull him out of that hole, and he gets
hit really, really hard. And once you start getting hit
(06:12):
really hard, now you start doing what Eli Manning has done.
You'll see him tonight, which is getting rid of the
ball way too quickly, because you know what, getting hit
hard sucks. Sucks it's getting hit hard in the NFL.
Is much like have any of you guys had a
shot collar on your dog? Right? So when you live
(06:36):
it doesn't really work in California because the yards are
so small and but a lot of times you live
in the Midwest, and I've lived in the East Coast
twelve of the last fourteen years, you have a nice, big,
sprawling yard. You don't want to put a fence up,
all right. What you do is you you put the
You gotta put these flags up, these white flags supposed
to train him on the flags, and you put an
invisible fence in a shot caller and the dogs they
(06:58):
go out and the thing beets done to zap him
right away. Although that because it's kind of funny, I
know some people do it. But does is it beeps?
It's like a warning like beebe bee, which is like
you're gonna get shocked. You're gonna get shocked, and the
dogs like, oh Jesus, what the hell right? And it
takes the dogs, I don't know, one or two times
of hearing the beep to know that a shock is coming.
(07:20):
If they keep going to where they hear the beep
and they go running as if they were shocked. That's
no different than playing quarterback in the National Football Like,
it's not that you can't take a hit, it's that
if you've been hit and hit hard, and he was
hit hard, like like von Miller made it his personal goal.
He got a sack late like four minutes ago. He
(07:42):
basically got a covered sack and he started celebrating as
if they won the Super Bowl. But von Miller made
it his personal quest to get a sack. He was
on as he was on the snack Schneide going into
he hadn't gotten a sack all year, and I mean
he's coming hard. They're coming again after him, and they
don't have Shane and they're sti getting after him. And
now of a sudden, they get a big lead, and
like big lead tenver Broncos. That's what the defense is
(08:05):
built for. And they got too great shutdown corners. They
got to leave. They got Chris Harris, no fly zone.
They're going, they're all ready to go. They're trying to
get a pick six. And you got this under a
little bit undersized, super speedy defensive line and they're just
salivating at the mouth and they were smashing Doc Dez
can't get open. Witton looks old and he's getting hit
(08:26):
and it becomes like a shock collar. Now you go
back and watch film, like, dude, I don't want to
get hit anymore. I'm gonna get rid of the ball
more quickly. The point is this doc was way better
than anybody could have thought last year, and Dac seems
to have all of the right tools, the intangibles. It
takes to being the quarterback of the Cowboys for a
(08:47):
long time to come, but anybody can do it one time.
Now they got the book on them. Now, they got
a harder schedule right now, they got a little bit
of dysfunction in that offensive line that seemed impenetrable suddenly
is penetrable, at least by a team like the Denver Broncos,
arguably the best defense in the game on the road
and when they needed the passing game to win it,
by their own head coaches own words, I couldn't do it.
(09:13):
And I told you this heading into the year. I'll
tell you this forever. It's hard to be a second
year quarterback than is a rookie quarterback, much like it's
harder to raise a three year old than is a
two year old, right, two year old? You all think
Terrible twos, Terrible twos, Terrible twos, they throw a tantrum.
You just laughing and go Terrible twos. Three year old
or older, they throw a tansr like, what are you doing?
(09:34):
You're wearing big boy, big girl panties. Now you're sleeping
in your own bed. You can't be laying on the
ground going on them. I've dreamed. The same thing happens
with second year quarterbacks. First year quarterback throws a pick
like a rookie quarterback. Gonna happen. Second year quarterback Jared
Goff throws a pick down in the game. You're like,
what are you doing? Jared Goffe, a second year quarterback,
(09:55):
can't throw that pick? Can't happen. Dak Prescott doesn't play well.
Not I written, not sharp. He's a veteran now he
has more of the playbook. There's no Tony Romo behind him.
It's his team to win, his game to lose. Now,
all of a sudden, you lose and you can't make
deep well. He's never seen a defense before, he's supposedly
seen at all. And the truth is he's still only
(10:16):
in his second year in the NFL he in in.
In reality, he should still be learning behind Tony Romo
for another year before he takes over. But all that
is sped up because we make the expectation. He started
seventeen games. Now he should know better, he should play better.
He should be able to pull us out of the
(10:36):
hole and estually could anybody can do it once? Scott
Mitchell did it for one year, he was great. Vince
Young did it his rookie year. He was great. Tim
Tebow did it at times during his second year in
the NFL. All of the SA The litmus test for
can you stick? Are you? The long term solution is
the second time around, when everybody knows what you want
to do and how you want to do it, can
(10:57):
you then win games? In spite of that? And so
far two games in, the answer is not yet. Not yet.
The Dallas Cowboys Chase McGrath is a kicker for USC. He,
at least as a Saturday night, is not on scholarship.
He's only made two kicks during his time at SC,
one to tie the game against Texas, the other to
(11:19):
win the game against Texas. It's a it's a drop
Mike moment. What is that like? And they put him
on scholarship yet we'll ask him up coming next. But

going back two weeks ago. That's the blind long snapper. Uh.
Now we'll have a Chase McGrath on in mirror moments
used to walk on freshman kicker for SC. Who kicked?
Who is two of three? Rememory missed his first one.
We'll talk to him about it. That was his first
attempt of the year. In their third game of the year,
there was a wild game um at the Coliseum where
(13:30):
Texas seem to play above their level, and USC really
struggle with the athleticism of Longhorns defense when the Longhorns,
much like we talked about with the Denfer Broncos, when
the Longhorns made them throw the ball and limited USC's
ability to run it. He'll Heald join this in moments.

college football and sports radio and how it works is
I was listening to Dan Buyer's show on Sunday morning
and like, by the way, Dan, I thought it was
I texted you, I thought it was an outstanding show.
(14:13):
Thank you. But the hard part of doing a show
on Sunday is like do you talk about Sunday or
do you talk about Saturday? Right? And then yours? Yeah,
obviously fantasy based and there was I mean, just you
guys went through so many interesting headlines when I was
listening in terms of the NFL that I felt like
I was all caught up, right. It was great, It
was really good. I should listening Dan on Sunday Mornings
here on Fox Sports Radio. UM, but then you're like, okay, wait,
(14:36):
do you go back and talk about Tennessee finding a
way to Tennessee that game and lose to Florida on
a sixty five yard hail mary? How the hell did
they get behind you? But it had It wasn't even
a hail mary. It was just like a long bomb, right,
like a hail mary. You think of like ten guys
in the end zone. Somebody goes up and catches it.
It just was like go along and the defense, the
safeties let him get behind the corners, and safeties let
(14:57):
him get behind. It was a route. Oh, the most
random thing ever. Right, you got that one. You hat
sc Texas. Um, you had Mississippi State, which some people
called an upset. I told you that was gonna happen
for the Mississippi State blowing out l s U as
L s U S offense once again looked inept. Right,
(15:17):
Mississippi State looked ept. They looked inept. Stanford losing for
the second consecutive game, losing this place to San Diego
State like there's a lot of but it's got to
be hard on a Sunday morning, Right, Do I look
back or do I look forward? Yeah? We look forward.
That tends to be because we lead into the NFL
on Fox pregame shows that we air here on Fox
Sports Radio. But when there are so many intriguing stories
(15:39):
from the night before, Yeah, there's there's a there's an
issue of trying to figure out, Okay, what would you
do do? What do you want to do? But we
try to look ahead for the for the NFL reasons.
But when you have that classic that you had with
USC in Texas, sometimes it's stuff to ignore stuff like that.
All right, let's let's welcome in Chase McGrath. There's a
kicker for USC. He Uh he lives in or spam
(16:00):
lives in Newport Beaches, very close to where where I
live right now, and um he joins us fresh off
with the beach Chase. What's what's life like on a
Monday after beaten Texas with a game winning field goal?
Thank you for having me, But uh yeah, it's pretty crazy.
I mean a lot of people on campus don't really
you know, they's walk byby, don't really know who I am.
(16:20):
But when some people figure out who I am, it's
it's pretty. They're pretty. It's pretty welcoming. Yeah, no doubt.
I mean, like you don't look like a football player, right, Like,
like even if even if you didn't know who Donald was,
he is kind of six to He's kind of like John.
Whereas like, you know, you got you got the fade
in the side, long hair. If you're wearing a usc
football gear, which I'm sure you you should be rocking
(16:42):
going to class today, people like, oh, are you a manager? Right? Yeah?
And then you know, I actually I made I made
the kid Chase mcgraft joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Um,
how come how come you hadn't been able to attempt
a field goal? I I was watching the game early on,
and they did a good job of resetting that you
hadn't even attempted a field goal going into the game.
(17:04):
What happened to the first two games in which you
weren't giving that opportunity? Yeah, I mean our offense is
just so high powered with Sam and all all those
guys on offense, they'd really do an amazing job when
like capitalizing when we're in the red zone. So I mean,
there really wasn't It wasn't like they weren't putty man.
There really wasn't an opportunity for me to for me
to go in there in the first two games. All right.
So you go in and you finally get a shot,
(17:25):
and you missed the first one, and you your duck
cooked a little bit the first one. What went wrong?
I mean that was my first callege chick ever, so
I think I kind of like rushed it a little bit,
like it was going really fast. So it was a
really good learning experience. So for me just to just
to get that first one out of the way and
just you know, just really just find my reallyman tempo
and just slow it down. Okay, So how do you
(17:46):
go from from missing the first one the next time
you get a chance to make a field goal? It's
game on the line, all right? And and Sam led
on a kind of a miraculous two minute drives. Texas
finally took the lead on a on a down completion.
Like you go from all right, your first option, I
find a duck cook it too. All right, kid, we
need you to save the game. Take take me through
(18:08):
mentally what you're doing on the sideline as it comes
down to your last second field goal to tie the game. Yeah,
I mean that that first kick. Really it didn't bother me,
to be honest, Um, I know what I'm capable of doing.
So I just try to treat like mentally, just treat
every single kick the same. I don't try to like
it just differ from either or kick. Just I just
(18:28):
try to just think every kick is the same. Kick said,
but what are you thinking? Um, not not really much,
to be honest, I'm just thinking I gotta do my job.
Just focus, just you know, just just hit a solid,
clean pass on the ball. Okay, So then you make
the field goal to send it send it to overtime.
And uh that I mean that feeling had to be
had to be incredible. Did Did that one feel better
(18:51):
than the game winner to take? Give me the give
me the sense of the difference that just because there's
the relief to it to the save the game. Whereas
had you missed the one in in double overtime, you
guys already Texas had fumbled, so it would have gone
to triple overtime. Wouldn't have been the best thing in
the world, but wouldn't have been a game Killer. Uh,
take me give me the difference in the two feelings. Yeah,
I really didn't have any like emotional feeling during the game.
(19:13):
It didn't hit me until like after my kick that
ended the game, Like I kicked it. I saw I
go through like like I saw pictures of me like
the video, Like my face had like no emotion whatsoever
on until like I kind of like realize what happened,
and I looked over the whole sideline was running at me,
and then I got excited and started running down the
field with the team. Okay, so all of your hopes, dreams, whatever,
(19:35):
every kicker in the world, even your boy, what's Ryan Stonehouse?
And it it was a punter at Colorado State, Like they're
all they're all jealous of you. Get get that opportunity.
Having had that opportunity and succeeded in that opportunity. Now
that you've had a chance to kind of uh feel
it and go home that night and do all the
do all the interviews and whatever, what's it really like?
(19:57):
How would you how would you how would you relay
it to your friends what it's like to make a
game winning kick at the historic l A Coliseum To
kind of save USC season. I mean honestly, it's at first,
you know, it like took a while to settle in
just to feel like, like, what's just happened? Like I
didn't like I feel like I was the one like
(20:18):
who wasn't reacting as much because everyone I saw I
was like freaking out, my parents, everybody, and I I
was just kind of just like chill, like like not
not too much, like like what's the big deal? But
I guess like once I really like like sat back
and just thought about what just happened? Is really just
truly amazing. Jase mcgrathj wointing us in the dug Otlip
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Donald is the same way.
Like that's the other thing that that's interesting about both
(20:40):
you guys. Uh um In that Donald after the game,
he like everybody's freaking out and he's over there shaking
hands and then he goes and does an interview on
Fox and like his pulse never never changes you're around him.
And one of the great things about Kickers is you
guys are kind of flies in the wall. You can
see how different people operate, and you're not necessarily in
on the offensive defensive meetings for somebody who who who
(21:03):
thinks they know Donald? What's he really like to see
him lead this offense? Yeah, he's a real day He's
truly so somewhat special. He's a gamer. I mean, the
type of mentality has is is just really special. Yeah,
but he said he's a public school guy. You're a
modern day guy when you guys recruit all this talent
and you guys just throw a star after star. You
(21:23):
couldn't have possibly taken him seriously come from San Clemente,
could you. Oh no, he was a real deal coming
out of high school. I remember him. I took him seriously.
Was this bigger than any your kicks in high school?
Because modern day like, for people don't know, it's it's
the best college high school football program in southern California.
Um where where? What's if this is number one, what's
number two in terms of your the greatest kicks of
(21:44):
your life from high school? Um? Jeez, I don't really know.
I have to say when we played Bastool last year, like,
I had two kicks that helped this one in a
close game. That was pretty good. That's st. John Boscoe
For people who aren't from Southern California, that's another another
our house. My junior year, uh, we beat Sarah bout
one point in the playoffs and I had two fields
(22:05):
and that. So but I've never really had like like
a kick just to like decide the game. Like yeah,
my junior year centennial, we uh they iced me. That
was the first time I got iced. And it was
with two seconds left I think, going into behalf. But yeah,
I never I never had a kick to the side again,
(22:26):
Texas ice you didn't. They didn't. They didn't. They ice
was a regulation, overtime, they tried to ice you. It
was over I think overtime. Yeah, overtime they ice you.
So is that like we're like, ire we go again
with the icing. What goes through your mind when you
get iced? Like, like I remember in high school when
they aced me, like it was a it was a
televised game, so like they kind of like got my
my face. I was kind of like smiling a little
(22:46):
bit because like I did the same thing this game too,
because I just think it's kind of funny. It just
gives me more time just to visualize and just just
really just just focus in on what's about to happen. Um. Okay,
so you go into the locker room and your teammates
are chanting your aim and chanting you know, give him
a scholarship? Right, Like, so do you do you have
broach it with coach? Do you just wait for it
to happen. I'm on Twitter going like, if he makes
(23:08):
his kick, you have to put him on scholarship. Sc
is not a cheap school for your parents. Not that,
not that Newport Beach. Your folks aren't doing Okay, I'm
just saying like, that's plus they paid for, you know,
four years of private school and high school as well.
How do you get to that? How do you get
to that conversation? I mean, that's not really up to me.
I mean I didn't even hear that chant going on
in the locker room, so you couldn't hear anything. You
(23:30):
were just numb to the entire world. Yeah, I mean,
it's it's all pretty crazy that to happen. But yeah,
that that's really not up to me. Whatever. Coach side
Donald's a boogie border Are you boogie border surfer? A
lot of my friends are, but I'm not really big
on it. But if my friends want to go out, yeah,
I'll go with him, but I'm not that's not my
best skill set. Most important, most important question, though, is
(23:51):
where's your spot in in Newport? I got an eight
year old son. He goes and tears it up in black.
He's sometimes we go down to the sixties where it's
nice and flat. Where where's the where's your spot to hang? What?
What beach? Know? What life Lifeguard tower is your hangout spot? Jeez?
I mean I'm not that big on the beach. Like
if you'd ask some of my friends, they'd have that
answer immediately. But I usually just go where my friends go,
(24:12):
you know, like some of I guess around wedge. Now
you're good on the wedge. You're bigger in the weight room.
I understand how it is. You're more, you're more to
the weight room. Hey, listen, congrats on the game winner.
You understand how this works when you blow. When you
when you blow a game, now of a sudden, everybody
be chatting for you to be you know, hung out
to dry. But in the meantime, enjoy the victory lap.
Congrats on making it and we appreciate you join us.
(24:33):
Thank you for having me. Appreciate Chase mc grat joining
us Pride of Modern Day High School, who made the
game tying and game winning kick. What it was, It
was one of those games which, if you could, what
you had to do in your mind is mentally forget
that Texas had lost to Maryland, right if you if
you forgot that Texas lost to Maryland, Like, this is
just a great college football game. Neither offense is particularly pretty.
(24:55):
Donald is a Donald's only a sophomore, Texas is starting
at true freshman and the game was kind of ugly
and and USC just couldn't put Texas away. Texas finally
took a seventeen fourteen lead with about just just under
two minutes ago. Uh or just yeah, and sc gets
it and Donald makes a couple of Donald plays and
(25:17):
they end up kicking a field goal sent to overtime,
and in double overtime, Chase McGrath makes a game winner.
That's not a cake. Could put me on scholarship. He's like,
I didn't even hear him chanting my name. We always
chant Dan Buyer's name when we need to know the latest.
What you got? Damn. When they're booing me off the field,
like get Buyer off, get Buyer off the field, that's
(25:38):
what they're saying. Um, I haven't heard that in a
long time, Doug. I also want to say quickly with kickers,
those overtime extra points, Uh, those are pressure pack because
everybody assumes that they're given. But by the way, Chargers
could use a kicker. Huh. Young whit Coup A tough
time on on Sunday, but kind of par for the
(25:58):
course with the charge is the way things have gone.
Um so far. Thanks going not great for Ezekiel Alliott
on the field, but off the field a little better.
The adjunction that put a hold on elliott six games
suspension remains in place after a judge ruled against the
NFL today. I think it's gonna continue to play for
the Cowboys as long as the suspension is not reinstated
by the Fifth Circuit of a Court of Appeals in
(26:19):
New Orleans. Now there's other Cowboys news. They remain a
Top four's list of the most valuable franchises in the
National Football League. Cowboys come in valued at four point
eight billion dollars. Week two wraps up tonight Lions and
Giants from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey eight thirty Eastern time,
and for the second straight week, Giants wide receiver Odell
Beckham Jr. Is a game time decision because of his
(26:39):
sprained ankle. He'll test that injured ankle and warmups tonight.
Panthers are gonna be without Tedding. Greg Olsen hills six
eight weeks of action after undergoing surgery today for a
broken foot. Falcon's linebacker Vic Beasley is out at least
a month after tearing his hamstring and last night's win
over the Packers and Yea Doug the Browns are owen
to put up a fight against the Ravens yesterday but
(26:59):
ended up losing. And now they've lost wide receiver Corey
Coleman who broke his hand, and yesterday's lost. There were
so many injuries. I mean big injury, Vic Beasley torn hamstring.
I know they say a month. The problem with the
hamstring is even when you come back, you don't really true.
And that's that such an explosive position if you don't
trust the hamstring, greg Olsen, as you mentioned broken foot.
Kelvin Benjamin got hit hard in the shoulder in that game,
(27:20):
like we don't know his his Stad's drunk gets hurt
and the quad Jordy Nelson, I mean the Green Bay
Packers the mash unit and as they got mashed, big big, big,
big injuries. Um when you mentioned Corey Coleman of the Browns.
Of course, the Browns had so many turnovers just day,
really couldn't compete in another home offensive game. Uh, okay, Dan,
here here's the thing. So we talked a lot about
(27:42):
Twitter was a big topic of conversation last week. You
operate your own Twitter handle? Correct? Yes? Do you have? Uh?
Do you have any other Twitter handles that we're not
supposed to know about? This is the only one that
I have. Okay, So I didn't know this. I guess
I knew this world existed. I just didn't know it
existed to this level. So apparently people are assuming that
(28:04):
Kevin Durant has multiple Twitter handles, like so he can
stand up for himself without it being we can speak
to himself without speaking for himself. And uh, well I
had no ide. Like again, there's a lot of things
that I've started to feel like I'm the oldest man alive.
You know, when you when my when my dad was
alive when I was a kid growing up, I remember
(28:26):
trying to explain to him how to play Nintendo, and
it was just like he didn't because he didn't grow
up playing video game, whereas thankfully I've grown up playing
from Colico Vision, Atari and Television, all the Nintendo's Saga,
Segon Genesis, Nintendo sixty four, whatever like. So now I
still play Madden against my eight year old kid. I
know at some point the gaming will will will pass
(28:48):
my you know, uh will pass my level of aptitude,
But to this point it hasn't. So I'm still cool
with that. But when the kids get ahold of the phone,
like I had no idea. So my daughters have cell
phones and my wife will takes them from them each
night and then she kind of looks them over. But
there's Instagram has like a feature which is almost like Snapchat,
(29:11):
where that you can send videos to people and then
they disappearance, gone forever. And so she may send a
video we have no idea what was on it, or
a boy could send her a video. You don't have
no idea, and once it's washed, it's it's just once
they've watched it, they just watched it. So even my
eleven year old daughters, who have had a cell phone
for exactly, I don't know, four months or something, they're
(29:33):
more technologically advanced on these things than I am, and
I had no idea that apparently it's almost common practice
for people to have more than one Twitter account. I'm
the dope that's been tweeting from my own Twitter account
for years. On the other hand, I actually don't know
the pass code too at Doug Gottlieb. That's why I
(29:53):
used at Gottlieb Show. So I actually do have to
Twitter accounts, but only because I didn't know the password
to at Doug gottlie Somebody at ESPN like seven years
ago set it up for me, and I didn't use
it for a year. Then I used it, and then
I left and I didn't know the Twitter handle. I
didn't know the password. So uh, apparently Kade was getting
(30:15):
into some Twitter conversation with somebody about k D only
doing it in third person and didn't know Music explain
how this possibly can work because you have multiple Twitter
handles right right, So on my personal cell phone, I
have my Twitter account at Music Reports, and then I
also have the network account at Fox Sports Radio on
(30:36):
my Twitter account. So on the app on your phone,
there is a way where you can just be logged
into both at the same time and you can easily
switch back and forth between each of the accounts just
by clicking on the icon. And so I've had the
situation before where without realizing it, I have been on
the network account and I'll scroll through and just like
(30:58):
a tweet or retwee, tweet something or go to reply
to someone, and then I see which account I'm on,
and then so I'm like, Okay, well that's not good.
So I have to go back unlike what I've done,
unretweeted what I've done, and then go back onto my
personal one. So it is just a quick If you
don't notice which icon is in the top left corner,
which specifies which account you're on, you can go about
(31:22):
your day without realizing which account you're operating. Okay, so
do we do we think this is really Kevin Durant
or somebody else using Kevin Durant uh Twitter account. I
think it's Durant. I don't think it's anyone else. I
think he just didn't realize which account he was on. Okay,
So for people who don't understand, let me read it
to you. Okay, somebody tweeted at Kevin Durant, man, I
(31:46):
respect the hell out of you. But you've gotta give
me one legitimate reason leaving Oklahoma City, for leaving Oakclose
City other than getting a championship. Kevin Durant, who people
are assuming he didn't mean to use this Twitter handle,
replies he didn't like the organism ation or playing for
Billy Donovan. His roster wasn't that good. It was just
him and Russ. And then there's another reply, imagine taking
(32:07):
Russ off that team and see how bad they were.
Katie can't win a championship with those cats. And and
my my thing about this is if you if you say, well,
that's not Durant and he's probably got people who are
operating his accounts on his behalf or whatever, then that's
it's also weird that if other people are operating your accounts,
(32:27):
you have them going on like your defense to attack
Twitter trolls. Mm hmm um, well look I've said this,
you you everyone gets one mulligan, right and the mulligan
and the mulligan is I was hacked. The problem is
this stuff has been out here long enough and there's
no I was hacked to where you're you're like they're
(32:48):
searching there right now. There's somehow meeting to try and
figure out do we come clean and say this was
k D or did somebody take the fall forward and say, man,
I was just playing. I stole Katie's phone. That's what
I would guess, because otherwise, right after it happened, somebody
would have alerted him and we would have gotten I
was hacked from k D. Because everybody gets that one mulligan,
whether not we believe them or not, that's what we do.
(33:14):
But is it logical? Is it reasonable to think he
didn't like playing for Billy Donovan? It is? He likes
Scotty Brooks, who's very very close to Scotty Brooks. They
fire Scotty Brooks, and a college coach comes in and
has to figure stuff out and has no kind of
built in equity with him. That's hard. Was the roster
any good? I've told people for a long time there's
no more overrated roster than that of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
(33:37):
Tell me who else on that roster you really like?
The mistake wasn't him leaving. The mistake was us not
pointing out the real reasons for leaving. It was very
very simple. They play the Warriors every time he got
the ball, he had to beat two guys in order
to score when he went to the Warriors. Now it's
just only one guy can guard him, and Ken and
(34:00):
Ran realizes one guy can't guard him in the NBA,
even if that guy is Lebron James. So I guess
it looks bad. But as I've told you since I
started this show, there are no more secrets, only facts
yet to be revealed, even if they're unwittingly revealed by
a person who means to tweet it unlike a onlike
(34:24):
an alternate account. Cam Newton will be without Greg Olsen
for a while. Is it a big deal, a little
deal or no deal? We'll tell you what the deal is,
bro that I've coming next. But first, there's a difference
in places you can go or call for life insurance,
and the place I would go to if I were you.
A matter of fact, I'm telling you to go to
(34:44):
in terms of protecting your family with term life insurance
is select Quote. The difference is simple. Most companies give
you one option, one policy. One right here it is
select Quote gives you options, lots of options, up to
fifteen options. And if you make this toll free call
eight hundred eight eight one four four six six. You
can review all of your options and they've already protected
(35:05):
over one point two million families. A four year old
male that takes cholesterol medication get five hundred thousand dollars
in life insurance for under twenty five dollars a month.
That could be your cost to protect your family. And
I want you to get select quota. Call at eight
hundred eight eight one four four six six or go
to sleight quote dot com today for a totally free
personal quote one eight hundred eight eight one four four

Get full details in that example policy at slight quote

issuing company or other factors. Again, call select Quote eight
hundred eight eight one four four six six. Not available

to enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Said, I've
heard of burner phones. Now these burner Twitter accounts. This
is all the things that we're learning about. There's lots
of things that happened like I had no idea. I
didn't know. I had no idea. I'll share with you
a TV secret that people don't people don't know you guys,
ever heard of topics? You're her topics? I mean like
(36:09):
something you talk about no T P I X. You
know topics is I do not know? Okay, So, um, look,
there are guys old school TV guys would get rugs
or would get some will get the page, we'll get
the way you're talking about. Yeah, that's okay, rug to page.
Some will get the like the implants whatever. Um. And
(36:33):
but but with very very common practice in television is
you put topics on your hair, and topics is it's
these fibers. It's just like dust you put in your
hair and it becomes like almost like fiber and like
fills in any spot in your hair because the lights
of bright are shot bright and shiny. Yeah, back your hair.
It's like, oh, your hair looks incredible on TV. Like yeah, no,
(36:54):
dub perfect day. So we're gonna share all secrets. Like,
let's share all secrets. Like dudes have burder Twitter burr phones,
dudes get burner Twitter accounts, and apparently dudes not everybody's
hair is as luscious as it looks on TV. This
is Game Time side on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Dan Byerho.
(37:18):
You can hear on in the mornings here on sports
Radio the hardest working man not named John Ramos in
Sports Radio. What you got from me? Dan? It's a
real hair or fake hair? Today on game Time? No,
little deal, no deal. I don't know how many I
could come off the top of here today, gone tomorrow. Yes,
maybe that's apropole for our first one here, big deal,
(37:40):
little deal or no deal. That the Bears are sticking
with Mike Glennon as their starting quarterback, following it on
want to start to the season. Um, they're just sticking
with Mike Glennon. Yes, a little deal. Eventually they understand
what the thing is. Okay, they completely understand, um that
they want Mitch Drabinsky to be the guy. They just
(38:02):
don't want to rush it. And as I told you,
have you seen their schedule out of the gate, This
is all they're trying to protect him from. They don't
want him to be shell shocked. Tampa is really good,
The Falcons are pretty good, and Glennon wasn't terrible in
Week one. They just can't look once they Once you
put a rookie quarterback in there, everybody knows you're not
playing for this year. And even though everybody knows the
Bears aren't playing for this year, you have to operate
(38:23):
as if you are. They have the Steelers up next,
not the Steelers have been great. Then they go to
Green Bay take on the Packers. Then the Vikings. Vikings
defense is still salty even without Sam Bradford. Then they
go to the Ravens Panthers at home at Saints. I
think you'll play again, at least against the Saints. There
is talk Jason lucanfora saying that he'll get the start
this week. Lennon will and likely week four because it's
a Thursday night game. But you could see something as
(38:45):
soon as that Week five matchup, just because of the
extended time between their Thursday game and Week four and
a Monday night game against the Vikings in Week five.
Got big deal, little deal or no deal. Now that
all but five NFL franchises, according to Forbes, are worth
more and two billion dollars, Yes, all but five NFL
franchises are worth more than two billion dollars. Doug, is
(39:06):
that a big deal, little deal or no deal? I
think it's a big deal. Uh, team of team. Values
are really really important. Um. I'd like to know who
those other five are, right, that's the other five that
aren't worth five billion? Beat Jacksonville's probably one. No, actually not? Um, Okay,
well we'll get we'll guess next hour. But I think
(39:27):
it's a I think it's a big deal. Values have
to keep gotta keep up and be more valuable than
NBA teams, as we've seen even the Rockets sold for
two billion dollars. Of course we've seen it for the
for the Clippers as well. Big deal, little deal or
no deal. That USC drew the Rams and Chargers combined
in football games in Los Angeles this weekend. I think
(39:48):
it's a big deal. I think the the NFL has
just not drawn the attention of l A the l
A sports fan. It's a different group of people that
watch NFL games and go to games. But it's really
hard to break out of those habits, and I don't
There just hasn't been a team that's broken through just yet.
We'll see if that those habits change once they get
in the new stadium in three years and big deal,
a little deal or no deal that John Ramos's girls
(40:09):
soccer team lost seven to two this past weekend. This
on the heels of their seven mill defeats in their
first game. Ah, that's a little deal because my baseball
team also got stomped twenty two eleven yesterday, ten runs
and two. This is game time on the duck. Got
(40:33):
lame show hard decision yesterday. So by Sun's eight years old,
he pitched one inning before in his life. He gets
out there and he was struggling in the first hitting
um and he was gonna get he misplayed a groundball
to him when he kind of rushed it and flip
to the first that started the rally and then they
were going to get out of the inning and pop
fly was hit. The right field kid doesn't catch it
(40:54):
because they're nine, eight, nine, ten years old, and he
was kind of crying at the end of the first inning,
and I or third inning and his first inning pitching,
and I decided to put him back out there. And
he struggled through the but I didn't want him to
end crying. I want him to kind of fight through it.
That was my decision. I mean, I'm happy not always
going to be successful. One NFL team needs to realize
(41:16):
it's over Johnny, who is it and why they should
break it apart? Next Boom, What Up America? Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio coming to you a live and direct
from the City of Angels where, Um, look, we don't
carry with us some burden of loving one team over another,
so we can tell you exactly how it is, like
(41:38):
that's one of the problems. That's one of the problems.
Like I was listening to the poor guys. You know,
our our sister station Los Angeles. They carry the Chargers, right,
and it's really hard to go save crap another year,
save crap, right, but they can't. We can and we're
not the rights hold of the Chargers. Were not the
(41:58):
rights hold of the NFL and radeo, so we can
tell you exactly what the deal is. And so, yeah,
the Charges have changed coaches, and they've changed kickers. Then
they've changed cities, they've changed stadiums, their uniforms have been tweaked,
their name has changed side crap, right, that kind of thing.
(42:19):
We can also tell you that we don't I don't
carry any sort of grudge against New Orleans. Everybody's gone
in New Orleans and had a great time for a weekend,
right Like New Orleans. The food is amazing there. It's
a great it doesn't feel terribly safe from not alidea, right,
but it is a great uh super Bowl site. Oh, music, food,
(42:45):
everybody's in a good The weather is not bad. I
wouldn't do summer there, but the fall, the winter, the spring,
no bad, not bad. Foods incredible and you know there
can be that Southern hospitality. And of course she had
that occasion accident. You just it feels it feels like
a different country in many ways. Um. And I think
(43:07):
it's fair to say that what Sean Payton and Drew
Brees has done for that football franchise is remarkable, right,
Like people forget that the the lovable losers of the
NFL for a long time were the Saints for a
(43:29):
long time. I mean they hadn't won a playoff game.
They hadn't won a playoff game until like two thousand.
That was the first time they'd ever won a playoff game.
And they got Drew Brees in two thousand and six,
and they went from a team that had won ten
(43:52):
games once in fifteen years two. Their first six years
together they won ten games four times. The first eight
years together they won ten games five times. They lost
in the Super Bowl. They see me. They won a
Super Bowl, They lost in two divisional games, lost in
(44:12):
the conference championship game, lost in a wild card game.
They were tremendous. But whether you want to blame it
on um bounty gate, you can if you'd like, you
want to blame it on the salary cap. You want
to blame it on on the rain. Mallie Vanilli blamed
it on the rain. Of course they weren't actually singing
(44:33):
blame it on the rain. But whoever it was singing,
blame it on the rain that recorded, as Mallie Vanilly did,
in fact, blame it on the rain. Whoever you want
to blame it on, it just has to be pointed out.
It's over. They stink at defense in terms of points
allowed in four in excume in in fifteen they were
(44:57):
thirty second. In sixteen we were thirty first, and now
they're thirty feet right, yards allowed, which I understand yards
allowed isn't necessarily indicative worse in the league right now
and three of the past uh two of the past
three years, they've been thirty first in yards allowed, just
(45:20):
an awful defensive. You have not been able to fix
the defense. And I was told their linebacking corps was
the worst in the league. And that's all the Patriots
did yesterday was picked apart in the linebacking corps. So
at some point you're gonna have to go like, hey,
this ain't working, let's start selling off pieces. And they've
(45:42):
been searching for a couple of years to find the
replacement for Drew Brees. They haven't yet found it. They
got the Panthers on the road, that's gonna be You
think that's now now it should be pointing out the
Panthers lost Greg Olsen, that's gonna hurt the Panthers. Kelvin
Benjamin didn't hurt his shoulder, and Cam Newton has not
been great. But on the road and Carol line up,
that's a difficult, difficult game for them. You start out
(46:04):
oh and three, they do have Dolphins and home lines
at home before they go to the Packers. At some
point the very near future, you need to go, hey,
we gotta sell off all these pieces because they are
in that same purgatory as NBA teams that don't make
the playoffs. Seven and nine, seven and nine, seven and nine,
(46:26):
seven and nine, all those seven and nine, those don't.
You can't get high in the draft. You can't get
a star. Not just high in the first can't get
high in the second round. And they have been non
competitive in their first two games. Non competitive. Look, it's
hard to open up on the road in Minnesota and
Sam Bradford's healthy and they're loaded for bear. That's a
(46:47):
hard game. Then you turn around, you got New Orleans
like schedule makers did them know? Now you go to
Carolina to take on the pants. It's like that is
that's tough for any team struggles. But if you watch,
it's not like they're it's not like they're at least
the Browns were competitive with the Steelers. At least the
Browns were relatively competitive with the Ravens. And there's less
specifectations of the Browns because they got to Shaun Kaisers
(47:09):
their quarterback. This is one of those teams to which
it's been what four years now, all right, it's been
four years since you have made the playoffs. It's been
(47:32):
six years since you were legitimately competitive. Because even when
they made the playoffs. The division was terrible, Tampa's really good,
Carolina's pretty good, Atlanta is really good. Tell me where
your division. They haven't been played a division game yet.
They're one of those teams that people are going to
(47:55):
struggle to break apart. Breeze and break apart Sean Payton,
who they thought thought about, Remember they thought about trading
him to San Francisco, And there was talking about trading
Drew Brees, just talking about trying to move on from
Drew Brees. They're just caught because once upon a time
those two took the franchise to heights that had never
been seen before. And and this is the difference. Danny
(48:19):
Ainge knew just the right time to trade away the
big three, right. He had Paul Piercy, have Kevin Garnett
still had Rondo at the time Ray Allen and he's like,
look it's over. Rayal and had left gone to Miami.
So they were stuck with Pierce, stuck with Garnett, And
(48:42):
they trade away those two and Jason Terry and just
and and pressed hit Refresh, hit Restart. They walked by
the Xbox and turn it off and turn it on,
like I built the franchise, and I know how it is,
like you built the franchise, like man, I was in
franchise mode. I was working on that sucker for three months.
(49:03):
You're like, hey, dude, the franchise you have sucks. Do
you guys remember? Do you guys ever play sim city
the video game the computer game sim City Building? I
love I loved it. I'm fascinating. I'm sure it's still exists,
and I'm sure it's probably better now than ever. But
you'd always try and create a city and be like,
all right, well, like, okay, I'll put the power plants.
Should I put the power plants way in the outside
(49:24):
of town, or should I just should I have the
power come from another town and pay for it so
that pollution is not a problem. You try and create
this beautiful, imaginary city just how you had created. If
you could start a city from scratch, it's a great concept.
But then at some point your traffic snarling, at some point,
the city budgets are overrun with deficits. At some point
(49:45):
you got pollution problems, You've got crime problems, and something's
got to give. In the real world, you gotta work
through these problems, right, it work through. It can't just
I can't just say like all right, we're moving on
and starting a new city. You can't kind of do that.
But in the preten world of the NFL, of the
(50:05):
n b A and of sim City, you can just
hit restart. You want that, give me something for it.
You want that, give me something for it, because this
ain't working. How many times can you remake your defense
and be thirty one thirty second league before you go like, hey,
(50:26):
that ain't working either. Time for somebody to go buy
the machine and turn it off and turn it on.
The Angela Williams joins the show. Up coming next, I'll
get his thoughts on on how you how you reset.
The Saints there were a feel good story. They were
the cubs. They were the lovable losers. Remember when they're
remember the first time they made their playoffs? Ramos is
(50:48):
old do to remember this back in ninety they made
it three years in a row. Jim Morrow was their coach,
the older Jim Mora they had when it was a
Steve also their quarterback. When you're in the Bobby Abert.
Bobby Abert was there and they and their owner was
still our owner now right, Tom Benson he would, he
(51:08):
would come and he had the the he had the
umbrella with the with the Saints in like gold in it, right,
and it was just it was like, Oh, it's really cool.
They're cute. The Saints. Dude, they're bad and I they
don't need me to tell them they're bad, but they need.
We're giving you permission to admit that you're bad. D'angela
(51:31):
Williams joins up coming next. Get his thoughts on have
we seen the ceiling for dak people figure it out?
Or is just one game? And of course we got
Monday night football Tonight Lions and Giants New York City
And of course Odell Beckham Jr. Expected for our Chris
Carter on first thing first to play that are coming

Radio Vance tweets the show as a Saints fan. Our
(53:16):
pass attack ain't what it used to be with a P,
It's actually a D. Adrian Peterson's nickname is a D.
His initials are AP all day is his nickname. He
goes by a D. On a common misconception. Anyway, why
wouldn't we go the lay Davis route? You know why?
Because that's not how they're built. Like, you're not gonna
they're they're they're they're there's mismatched parts. They have three
(53:37):
good running backs, and they're a team that likes to
throw the football. And they don't have a great passing game.
Oh yeah, their linebacker stink. Their revamp defense doesn't do much.
They've given up more yards than anybody in the Nation
Football League. Outside of that, Mrs Lincoln, how is the show?
I just I don't know what the Saints are doing.
Oh I can tell you is it's over, especially in
(53:57):
that division where Tampa looks strong, Atlanta looks strong. I
don't think Caroline is great, especially now without greg Olsen
for a substantial amount of time. Kelvin Benjamin gets hurt.
They've got a good defense, and they do have enough.
They got they have enough with Cam there to which
starting out for the Saints. Next they play in Carolina
like that's oh and three staring them in the face.
(54:18):
It's oh and three is don't buy green bananas. This
season is dead. D'Angelo Williams joins the show. He joins
us every week in The Doug Glary Show, former Pro
Bowl running back And am I wrong? I mean this?
The Saints like they're a team that we always think about. Well,
they put up a lot of points and they've tried
to remake this defense for four consective years and they're
(54:38):
just not any good. Doug. You know it's your show, Doug.
I'm not trying to take over, So I'm just gonna
agree with you because it's your show. Don't do because
my show tell me exactly what you think. You're the
expert if it if it wasn't my show, I totally
disagree with you. And this is why when the Saints
wore the Super Bowl, they had at lutely no defense
(55:01):
at all, dead bottom. Last there was thirty three in
the thirty two man league, the last and every statistical category.
The difference was is that Drew Brees is putting up
points with the weapons that he had. Right now, what
they're going through is a bit of a transition because
they got these three running backs and Paiding over there
that know what to do with him. Because he has
(55:23):
Drew Brees in one are, he has three headed months
in the other are, and he's trying to balance that
whereas this laying uh, Drew Brees is go ahead and
play football. So right now they're going through a transition
phase and trying to figure out what their identity is
because their identity for a very long time has always
been Drew Brees. But now you have Drew Brees, you
have Adrian Peterson, you have mark Ingram, you have a
(55:45):
trio of running back back there that can get the
job done. But however, the way that you've all you've
built your offenses. You built those guys to pass protect
and not pass protect along and that's what's biting them
in the But that's why their offense struggle is much
as they struggle is because of the way that they
were built. They were built to throw the ball and
they're trying to transition from a throw throwing first offense
(56:09):
to a run first offense and it's just not gonna
work until they get the guys up front to do that.
Can you do that in season? Yes, you absolutely can't.
It's just all about changing the mindset and potential personnel.
You can absolutely do it. But the problem with that
is is coming with that mindset you have to change,
(56:29):
and having their mindset for as long as they've had
it in terms of throwing the ball and coming in
and say hey, we're gonna be a run first offense,
They're like, yeah, okay, whatever. Not with Drew Brees back there,
and not everybody has bought into that run first offense.
I'm not even shure up Sean Payton's actually bought into
the run first offense because he showed he's shown that, hey,
(56:49):
you know, I'm gonna try to stick to the room.
But he's also shown, hey, I still have this passion
in my blood. Why couldn't the Cowboys run the ball
at all? Against the Broncos. I want to hear your
I want to hear why you think they couldn't run about?
Do I have no I have no idea I have
(57:09):
no idea they could. I mean, like, I know that
the Broncos did a great job of keeping them off
the field. Well, I mean like look if you yeah,
but I'll go through all the kind of the talking
points of broadcaster guy that didn't play in the NFL.
They couldn't get that. They couldn't get They couldn't get
Denver off the field. They couldn't get Denver off the field.
And third down that's the first thing, right, I mean,
they did be able to get off the field on
(57:30):
third down this year and last year. Please do well,
the Giants beat the Giants last week, they were able
to get off the field. I look, I grant you
the Giants weren't good, but but they did a good
job of getting and and they played ball ball control.
It was. It was basically the opposite they the Broncos
did to them what they've done to other teams, where
the Broncos were able to run the football and keep
(57:52):
the keep it, you know, keep the chains moving on
third down and keep Dak and Zeke off the field.
And so you know, Zeke only had the ball like
the three or four times five times in the first half,
and then they stacked the box and if it felt
like the Cowboys wide receivers couldn't get open and Doc
was a little bit inaccurate. Is that is that fair? Yeah,
(58:15):
I'll give you that. For a guy that hasn't played football,
that that that that just talks about you do a
great job. That's I'm gonna go a little bit in
depth on it, though. Uh, this is what the issue is.
And I've been telling people this and this will be
the second year I've told people. Doc is a clock manager.
Doc is not one of those guys that's gonna come
and win football games. When you go down fourteen or
(58:37):
twenty one point, that's when Dad, he can't bring you
back from that. And bringing you back from that, in
my opinion, means winning the football game, not making it
where it looks easy or even on paper, but didn't
lose by that many ones that get down and you
can't run the football anymore. You're forcing Doc to make
precision throws that Doc is not really comfortable throwing most
(59:00):
of the time. With that throws and football, there's a
wide open receiver. College open wide receivers because they put
so much attention on stopping Ezekiel Elliott. With that offensive
line that they had that offensive line this weekend. Gott
a rude awakening, gotta rute awakening. And they was reading
their place press clippings of how good they were. They
was drinking the Dallas Star Madison, you know, uh in
(59:23):
Jerry's world and not allowing anybody else's in there. And
they went in the Denver and they got a wake
up call. They came home with two black eyes two.
It's funny. We told you the first time and you
didn't listen, but they gave you another one. It's funny
point out. I actually started the show saying like, look,
we all want we all want Dak to be the
guy that that that the scouts missed on, right fourth
(59:44):
round pick man. We missed on this guy at the
Mississippi State. But the truth is, like there's a reason
that he went where he went in the draft because
there are some accuracy issues. And while he seems to
have his stuff more together than a than a Vince
Young or Scott Mitchell, the second year, the second year round,
it's prohibitively more difficult, and they're playing a more difficult
schedule and people are gonna make him win games. I
(01:00:05):
guess the question I would ask you, is all of
that said, is he is he still good enough to
be the guy knowing what you know about him and
saying what you said about him, Is he still good
enough to win a Super Boys and in in about
two years, giving him two years, he's gonna learn how
to win football games. Right now, they're only teaching him
to manage the game. They taught him to manage the
(01:00:28):
game last year because their defense was good enough to
get people off on second and third down, taking down
with interceptions, third downs with them getting off the fields
and kicking punnent to them. That's why he was able
to get the ball so much. And everybody was dak
dak ezekiel, dak dak ezekiel. What happens when every time
the other team go down and they score, are you
(01:00:48):
able to keep up with that pace? And they showed you,
um that they couldn't keep up with their pace. They
showed you yesterday they couldn't keep up with it, not
at all. And that's just something that that comes with um.
It's just coming to come with learning. Man. You teach
quarterbacks and stage like Tom Brady Wilson. Tom Brady when
he first started playing, uh Drew Brees. All these quarterbacks
(01:01:08):
that are future Hall of Famers or Hall of famers
didn't start out on the Hall of Fame course the
first year, And all those that did start out on
the Hall of Fame court that first year didn't make
the Hall of Fame because there was something that the
league hadn't seen. And then the next year they found out, like, oh,
this is that Achilles heal to that offensive this is
the Achilles dealer. You can't show us something we hadn't
(01:01:30):
already seen. Like everybody's all like in all that Cam
doesn't run the ball that much. Now he stays in
the pocket and throw. I wonder why, Please tell me
somebody has never played the game. Why he just stays
in the pocket? Throw and I pawed him and standing
in the pocket. No, he stays in the pocket because
he was getting his ass knocked off every time he
(01:01:51):
was running the ball. How much do things change tonight
for uh? For ELI with O b J being back,
their offensive line struggle, Huh, it's not gonna change at all. Man.
Eli has been an accurate for the last two or
three years. Man. Uh, It's just a matter of time, man,
before they put that dog down. O b J can't
(01:02:11):
save him, Dude, there's no wide receiving they could save him.
You the problem is it, and this is what the
problem is. Eli Manning will be a great quarterback right
now if he wasn't throwing the ball on his back.
But because he's throwing the ball on his back and
then line can't protect him, it's just a matter of
time before they put that dog down. I don't want
(01:02:34):
to put any money into that offensive line to give
him some blocking. Man. Like they're saying that the running
the running game is trash over there, it is not
because of the running back. They say that the quarterback
can't throw. He can't throw an active the ball. Well,
it's hard to throw an active the ball when you're
running from God. And Eli Manning is not the greatest
scrambler in the world all by no means see scramble
for six yards to take him two and a half days.
(01:02:56):
Russell Wilson is a good scrambler. They did win yesterday,
but once again, like the line, and look, I think
San Francisco is a little bit better than they're there
than they're given credit. Right, they've completely revamped that defense
is pretty young and pretty athletic. Nonetheless, because of Seattle's
offensive line, they seem to be limited. You said that
you can fix New Orleans if you change the mentality.
(01:03:17):
Is Seattle's offense fixable? Yes it is, It absolutely is.
They're also going through a bit of identity crisis as well,
but it has nothing to do with the running game.
I think it has more soul with the media attention
that they have over there, because they are definitely more
than capable of winning these football games because they didn't
go through the revamped defensive Seattle like the forty Niners is. However,
(01:03:39):
you can't compare that game of the Carolina Panthers and
the forty Niners to the forty niners in the Seattle
Seahawks because they're structure different and then game planns is
completely different. What a lot of people don't understand in
the National Football League, game planning is everything, and it's
not the players. It's not the plays. It's the players
and the plays. You can't just pick out one, like
(01:04:01):
when some people say somebody got out coach Like, it
blows my mile when they say somebody got out coach uh.
In the NFL, from a standpoint of players, not performing
up to the way that they supposed to perform. Now,
players can, I mean coaches can get out coach based
on the claimed the game plan that they presented to
the team and not move the ball and they're too
(01:04:23):
talented to do what they did. Like for instance, the
Stealers against the Browns. Uh, you could say that the
Stealers got out, coach because they didn't put up as
many points as the stars on that team. Uh was predicted.
But again though the Browns came to play. So yes,
you got out, coach, but you won the football games
(01:04:43):
and you went you wanted in my opinion, handily. But
it was eight team score and didn't show the score
didn't show what actually happened in the game. But again,
you look at that, you can say, hey, you got out, coach,
that was a poor performance by game playing a game
plan alone, by taking later Bill lay on Bill off
the field, you're one of your main assets to make
(01:05:04):
everybody else go. I'm a little bias because I'm a
running back. I have to say that. What about yesterday?
Why why aren't the Steelers able to just I mean, look,
you're going against a case Keenum lead team and they
won and the final scores a sizeable manner. But again,
we look at all this weaponry and you're like, you
got Big Ben, you got all these dudes. Why aren't
you scoring thirty five forty points? What's your assessment of
(01:05:26):
why the Steelers often still hasn't taken off. They're they're
doing enough to to get games one Again, you have
to understand, Uh, these are the variables that a lot
of people don't understand. Like the Kansas City Chiefs fences
right now, they're hitting on all cylinders way too early,
Kansas City Chiefs, way too early. You want to win
(01:05:46):
those close games, You want to win those slaver doctors,
those oh we didn't play so well games early, and
then you want to hit your stride midseason home because
that's gonna carry you into the playoffs. That's what a
lot of people don't understand about this game. It's all
about riding that momentum into the playoffs. Like the Pittsburgh
(01:06:07):
Dealers right now, they're going through some adversity on offense,
meaning they're not getting the players of the output that
a lot of people think that they should have with
the with the fire, with the weapons that they have
with Martavis Bryan with a B with ju Ju Schmid
with Lady with Ben like they have a lot of
weapons after now with Jesse coming on. But it's gonna
come together and once they come together, and I'm hoping
(01:06:30):
that they come together mid season because that's when you
want to start winning. Like right now, the Kenda City Chiefs,
they really haven't been they haven't been challenged like they
played against the New England teams that were struggling on defense,
so they was able to put up points. And then
they was they was putting up points against the Tom
Brady Lair offense where they were dropping balls and they
were making mistakes. Those kind of mistakes by this New
(01:06:50):
England team, they're not gonna make those mid season at all.
So they have to see those guys again and believe
you me, they're gonna be pissed when they playing. You
can hear him every week on the Gottlip Show from
a Pro Bowl running back of course, Caroline Panthers, Pittsburgh
Steelers and kind enough to be our guest, D'Angelo. Great stuff,
love the opinion, keep them coming and thanks for joining us,
thy man. Thank having as D'Angelo Williams joined us with
(01:07:11):
true car. You can find out what other people in
the area pay for the same car you're looking for.
Newer You've used visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Let's get you to Dan Buyer find
out what else is going on. I just want to
make sure. He said in two to three years, D'Angelo
that Eli Manning, they'll have to put that dog down.
Dog down? Is that a quote? All right? I think
that's what we just heard others. He is right though,
(01:07:34):
like they're I mean, like, look, this is not the
first time that that that Eli has struggled with accuracy.
I mean, you go back a couple of years ago.
He's throwing picks left and right. He also said that
part of part of a big part of the problem
is is the offensive line. Yes, you saw rumblings last
year even on Eli's status as well, but that offensive
line has been a constant and not in a good way.
(01:07:56):
It's becoming a constant. Dug in Indianapolis that the Colts
aren't having Andrew Luck already ruled out of Week three's
matchup against the Browns. Jacoby Brissette will get the start
for that game. Colts lost an overtime game to the
Cardinals yesterday to drop to Owen two. Now, speaking of
Eli Manning, he and the Giants will be taking on
the Lions tonight to wrap up the second week of
the National Football season. Eight thirty Eastern time. Jihants wide
(01:08:18):
receiver Odell Beckham Jr. As a game time decision because
of a sprained ankle. Some news about the Dallas Cowboys.
The injunction that put a hold on Ezekiel Elliott six
game band remains in place after a judge ruled against
the NFL. Today and Forbes came out with their list
of the most valuable franchises in the NFL, and the
Cowboys are on top value that four point eight billion dollars.
(01:08:39):
Patriots are second on that list at three point seven billions.
Interesting point has been important to point out. You know
that the Cowboys in Frisco, they built this incredible facility.
Whether actually they host uh they're gonna hose games, I
think is the problem. Gonna be played there, the dreft.
They want to have the Draft there right. High school
games are played there as well, and of course they
own the stadium. So part of the part of the
(01:08:59):
valuation and is based upon what's owned by the team,
not just the teams. And they just go like, oh,
Cowboys are worth four billion dollars because of the Cowboys.
Cowboys name is big, but the fact they owned both
of us those facilities also incredibly valuable. The Falcons are
gonna be without linebacker Vic Beasley for at least a
month after he tore his hamstring, and last night's went
over the Packers. He's already been ruled out for a
(01:09:19):
week three, while Panthers tennant Greg Olsen gonna miss some
time a surgery this morning after undergoing that operation to
repair a broken foot. Timetable about six to eight weeks.
Brown's lost wide receiver Corey Coleman after he broke his hand,
and Yesterday's lost to the Ravens. And I think you're
gonna be talking some NBA coming up in just a
little bit, and you're also gonna be talking some NFL.
(01:09:40):
But there is news from the Association today, Nuggets signing
Mason Plumley to a three year deal with hold On.
We gotta change the show now. That's Dan Buyer. Uh.
You can hear weekends Sunday morning, especially six to eight
thirty that East Coast time. Yeah, I'm trying to think
because I was up super early when I was listening
to you yesterday to get coffee with my dog. Ninety
(01:10:01):
Stern six Pacific. We're on for two hours, leading you
up to the two hour simulcast of the NFL on
Fox pregames. You can hear that on Fox Sports Radio
on the I Heart Radio app. Where have you listened
to Fox Sports? Radecor Serious sex M Channel eight three.
I believe I was listening to it. I think I
was listening five seventy. Anyway, Um, you mentioned the NBA,
So in addition to you, apparently Kevin Durant tweeting about
(01:10:23):
Kevin Durant on his own account and telling us why
he really left the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kyrie Irving was
on First Take on espan ro La today and there
was kind of contentious Q and a as to why
he asked why he wanted to be traded. I don't
think that you owe anything to another person in terms
(01:10:47):
of figuring out what you want to do with your life,
and it's not anything personal. I'm not here to tirate anybody.
I'm not here to go at any particular person. It
comes to time where you mature as an individual. It's
time to make that decision, and there is no looking
back from that standpoint, and there is no time to
figure out how to save someone's feelings when you have
to be selfish in that and figuring out what you
want to do. Is there something personal going on that's
(01:11:09):
none of our business that you simply don't want to
talk about behind the scenes with Lebron? Can I ask
you a question, Max? Why does it continuously have to
be about one player? Do you realize that I played
with thirteen other guys on the team. Is there something
personal with anyone else on the team? Because if it is,
I accept that. No, I just I care. I care
about my life. Scare, Um, I get my My general
(01:11:32):
takeaway is a couple of things. Um, this is one
of those. It's the interview you want, and it may
not go the way you expect or the way you
may have liked. It's no matter what he says, we
are going to cut it up in a million different
pieces and decipher it. But I tend to take Carrie
at his word. I look, what I have always told you,
(01:11:57):
and what I've always believed and what I have heard
are all kind of one and the same thing. Okay,
that same thing is this quite simply, um, Kyrie Irving
is just done with the whole everything's about Lebron. Everything
in the organization is focused on one person. He wants
(01:12:19):
it to be done his way. This is a he's
in a band, there's a different lead singer. That band
is successful, platinum albums. He's not. He's not demeaning any
of that success. But he wants his own band, or
wants to play in a band which is constructed differently.
The coach is more important, other players are more important,
(01:12:40):
and yes, he would be more important. I think it's
a reasonable stance. Um. I also didn't think it was
a great moment for either Kellerman or Stephen A. Smith.
It was like there was hard They wanted so bad
to get that one answer, that one yes, you hate
(01:13:03):
Lebron James. They wanted so bad that instead of coming
back at him with when he said why do you
care so much, the response question should have been you
went to the NBA Finals three consecutive times. It would
stand to reason that if you came back for another year,
(01:13:23):
you'd go to the NBA finals one at least one
additional time. Most people in the NBA would think that's
a good thing. You'd want at least one more time
and see what happens with Lebron. I don't we think it?
It's it looks so good in terms. You guys didn't
even play that well, and yet you still went to
(01:13:44):
the NBA Finals. You didn't lose like what you lost
what one game in the playoffs before the NBA Finals one?
And yet you want to leave this team. I think
that leads most of us in the media to wonder, well,
it's got to be something personal, is it? But instead
head Instead they got caught up I think chasing the
(01:14:05):
chasing the big story instead of allowing him to kind
of elaborate a little bit more. And maybe you didn't
want to elaborate, maybe it wasn't gonna happen. But the
why do you care so much? The simple comeback is,
I think because we think you're pretty good together. Why
would you? Why would you? Why would you split tens
as they did? Right? They split tens? They didn't have
(01:14:27):
the best hand. Twenty one is the best hand they
had tens. He's splitting tens? Why would just split tens?
Why not? I want a bunch of money. I want
to split tens. See how it goes. Colin Coward thinks
Sam Donald can do something only four other players in
the uh four other players in the world can do.
(01:14:50):

I love having Angelo Williams on. You missed any of that,

Download the Doug Gottlief Show podcast at Fox Sports Radio

dot Com or iTunes or wherever you download podcast. Every day.
At this time, we like to bring back for you
something you might have missed on Fox Sports Radio. Collin
Coward has a little bit of a crush on USC
football this year. Take a list of what he said
about Sam Donald's jump pass that helped complete the comeback
(01:16:39):
or complete the drive that led to the game tying
field goal. Sam Donald first makes this eight teen yard connection,
then makes a play, and this was under duress. Like
every other pass attempt. He makes a running completion that
is as good as anything I've ever seen. A jump
pass over the middle was a good as anything I've
(01:17:01):
ever seen. I'm telling you, Brady can't make that play.
Big Ben can't make that play. Joe Flacco can't make
that play. Matt Ryan can't make that play. Second seconds
to play Donald. It's trumble Donald game. They're in race.
(01:17:21):
Best quarterback you ever think this is hard, Go out
to your art, grab a football, jump and throw it.
Jump into your accuracy completely deterior rates. I don't think
people understand how hard. There are four guys in the
world that can make that play. That kid is special.
One of those four guys is Tim Tebow. I hate,
I hate to be the guy. Tim Tebow was great
(01:17:42):
at the jump pass, wasn't good at the regular pass, right, Like,
could Joe Flack and make that plate? No, but you
know what, Joe Flacker, you knew he can throw at
sixty yards uh, you know, into the corner of the
end zone on aline, exactly where he wants it to.
I like Sam Donald. I was on Sam Donald before
Colin was as soon as he started playing against Utah
last year. Like, that's the guy. The s C guys
I knew said he should have started ahead of Max Brown,
(01:18:03):
but they gave Brown because of seniority, a chance to
start the season last year and it was a disaster.
All of that said, let's not dismiss the facts that
Sam Donald wasn't that good in the game against Texas,
that he isn't also breaking down defense. Remember they looked
to the sideline for the audible or to find out
what to run. I like Donald, but let's not go
(01:18:24):
crazy about what he is, where he is, or how
he has developed. He's one of those guys that right
now is still better scrambling and and you're doing things
that aren't scripted than there are. And in the NFL,
it's what can you do from the pocket? Can you
can you keep the foot? Can you keep the team
on uh? Uh? The down and distance manageable? Can you
(01:18:44):
keep him on time? And until you can do that,
it doesn't really matter what you do at the collegian level.
I like him, I like s C. They were kind
of underwhelming offensively. They were good defensively, but relented in
the at the worst possible time. We're very fortunate that
Texas is young and turned it over and double overtime.
But I don't want to take away from how clutch
Sam Donald is, how calm he is. But let's not
(01:19:06):
act like that's the best Sam Donald performance we've seen
in our lifetime. Here here's what Skip Bayliss had to
say about Sunday night football, where the Falcons dominated Green
Bay Packers once again. Aaron Rodgers is getting a pass
for last night because he throws such a beautiful pass,
and that one that he threw to Davonte in the
fourth quarter, that thirty three yard it was a thing
(01:19:27):
of beauty. It was like took my breath away, but
to other players, took my breath away for all the
wrong reasons. And I'm gonna say it once again, fifty
four seconds left in the first half, it's still a game,
and all of a sudden, Aaron Rodgers goes Blake Bordles
or Mike Glennan. Look, he wasn't great, but they can't
run the football in fifty nine yards rushing time, Montgomery's
(01:19:49):
still the running back. He's a converted wide receiver in
the NFL thirty five yards rushing. They didn't have Jordy Nelson,
who got hurt. You take the number one wide receiver
off of off of any team and suddenly now Davante
Adams becomes to go to Raynal Cobb has to move
over and be the number two wide receivers. They're going
to struggle. Mar tell Us Bennett wasn't able to get
(01:20:09):
a catch until I think late in the third quarter
too of his two offensive tackles were out. Like, let's
be reasonable about this. So do I think Aaron Rodgers
gets a pass? Yeah? Probably? Do I think he was perfect?
He was not. But when you give up seven, when
you when you give up points and you feel like
you're gonna have to score and make a play, occasionally
(01:20:30):
you'll force somethings. This is one of the things Brett
Farve Brett farb is guilty of too many turnovers for
a long time. By the way, the one thing that
Aaron Rodgers doesn't do is turn the football over, right,
like miniscule number of turnovers in comparison to far But
one reason Farve did it was Barb was not playing
with great teams. It was a different era and he
he felt like he had to take more chances. I mean,
(01:20:51):
Rogers last year forty touchdown, seven receptions, thirty one and eight,
thirty eight and five. Like, the dude's the best quarterback
in the league. Everybody seems to know it. Does He
get a pass occasionally, but a lot of it's because
he has to make things happen when he's playing without Jordy,
without his offensive tackles and had a deficit on the road.
Crazy weekend in college football. There's been so much in
(01:21:13):
the NFL we haven't gotten yet. What was Tennessee doing?
L s U losing at missis CP State's interesting? L
s U lose at Mississippi State and so so now
it's like, well, the the SEC is down. The SEC
could in fact be down, But when an SEC school
beat an SEC school, why is an SEC down? Like
doesn't that kind of help their narrative of the SEC
(01:21:33):
being good across the board? I don't know, no one.
I do think Oklahoma State is legitimate. They played TCU
this week, uh and and look TCU. They have the
toughest schedule in the Big Twelve, but it's now a
three horse race. You still got Kansas State who lost
to Vandy. But Kansas State's one of those teams that
(01:21:55):
not gonna win the Big Twelve. Not the best team
in the Big twelve, but they'll probably knock off one
or maybe more of those top Big twelve teams because
that's who Kansas State is. And boy bo bo boah boy.
I guess this will be the last time that Mike
Riley comes on on our show. You see, they lost
in Northern Illinois. I thought that was a locked up
(01:22:16):
since they just gave a contract extension as well. Oh
oh all right, we got Kyrie stuff, we got k
D stuff, and the Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys took a whooping
yesterday and it does, in fact happen. They were not good.
(01:22:37):
But it's not about what you do once, it's about
can you do it a second time? I'll explain to
you next on the Doug Gotlip Show. What up to
Doug Gotlip Show? Fox Sports Radio car Trace in l
A also known as Monday Giants on Monday Night Football.
That'd be cool and uh Matt Staff for Detroit Lions
(01:23:03):
highest paid quarterback in the Nation Football League Stale Matt
Stafford will be UH quarterback in one team, Eli manning
the other. We got some Monday night football for you.
Got a ton to get to. We still gotta get
to this this Kevin Durant thing where I, you know,
I think the truth. We'll hurt at first, but eventually
kind of set him free and Durant will get what
he wants out of a Twitter rant which we weren't
(01:23:26):
supposed to know was him but appears to be him. Plus,
Mike Norvill will join us upcoming. He's the Memphis head coach.
They took down U C l A and one of
the upsets of the weekend. There were three point dogs
one at home. Uh intercepted, intercepted Josh Rosen a couple
of times and got a huge win at the Liberty Bowl. Uh. Look,
(01:23:51):
I like Dak Prescott. I love the Dak Prescott story
and maybe it's maybe this is UH simply confirmation bias.
Last year, while I was not at this radio network,
I was at a national radio show sam just different channels,
same badtime, and I was telling people that look, Tony
Romo gave you a gave you a chance to win
a super Bowl at this stage in in uh Dak
(01:24:16):
Prescott's career. Tony Romo gave you a chance because Dak
was simply managing a game. And when everything's going right,
that's great. And he did bring them back in the
Packers game, that's fair. They got down big, he did
bring him back. But he doesn't throw guys open. He
(01:24:39):
doesn't make the type of plays with his armed talent,
and there's a lack of accuracy when he goes through
his progressions, which I think many of us can see.
And while he's learning to read a defense, he's learning
to become better and more accurate and more like an
NFL quarterback man. You put anybody behind outline that run
(01:25:00):
game with Jason Witten and As Bryant last year in
a week's schedule, and you're like, you'd be pretty good.
When teams got after him, he got rattled. Eagles got
after him, got rattled, Giants got after him, got rattled.
There were times which even the Packers, who had a
terrible defensive secondary, rattled him early. And yesterday they get
(01:25:24):
absolutely destroyed by the Denver Broncos, and the Broncos did
to them what they do to everybody else. Right, They
ran the football exception well behind C. J. Anderson. They
played ball control. They stayed on the field on third down,
getting more than the third downs, and by doing that
(01:25:45):
it made the Cowboys offense have to go and win
a game instead of managing game. D'Angelo Williams, former running
back in the NFL Panthers Steelers, joined his last hour.
He said this about Dak that is a clock manager.
That is not one of those guys is gonna come
and win football games. When you go down fourteen or
twenty one points, he can't bring you back from that.
(01:26:06):
And bringing you back from that, in my opinion, means
winning the football game, not making it where it looks
easy or even on paper, but didn't lose by that
many ones. That gets down and you can't run the
football anymore. You're forcing Doc to make precision throws that
Doc is not really comfortable drawing. UM. I tend to
(01:26:27):
agree there, tend to agree that that's just not who
he is. He's not there. There's there's twelve or fifteen
guys that can do it, that can legitimately do it,
and the top five, the top five or maybe top
seven are better at it. Like you know I've said,
I point out I think Matt Stafford is among that group.
(01:26:48):
I really do. I think Tom Brady obviously is among
that group. Uh, Drew Brees for a long time has
been in that group. Obviously, Aaron Rodgerson that group. I
think Andrew luck is in that group when he's help it.
I don't think Dak is in that group. I don't
think they had it. Everybody had it all wrong when
Dak Prescott was a fourth round pick. When Dak Prescott
(01:27:09):
finished up his career, I I said on my radio
show Man Shows how hard it is making the NFL.
I think Dak Prescott has had as good a career
as you can have at Mississippi State, and he'll probably
never start a game in the NFL. But he was
in the right place at the right time and had
the right PERSONA Romo gets hurt, backup ain't really good enough.
(01:27:31):
He gets hurt as well, that gets gets a shot
and takes advantage of it and does everything they'd ask.
But at some point you go from fourth round pick,
feel good story too? Can you win games on your own?
I remember when Tom Brady first got to be a
starter in the NFL wasn't till his second year because
of injury, and they he just managed the game. He
(01:27:52):
didn't do much of anything. But then he grew into
the role. And the question becomes, can he grow into
this role or is this as good as it gets?
Because this happens with teams in the NFL, it happens
with players especially. But I asked people all the time,
(01:28:15):
is it harder to make it? Or is it harder
to do it again after you've made it. It's like
we make fun of one hit wonders, and I've often
said I have respect for one hit wonders because whatever
Chumba Womba song, I'll get knocked down. We're knocking up again, right,
that's Chumba Womba. They're like, well, what else did they
(01:28:36):
do well? They have one song that you remember? How
many people have that. On the other hand, there's so
many one hit wonders because it's probably harder to make
a second hit or a second album. Big, isn't it?
That second album is a beast And that's the challenge
for Dak. You know, we've had plenty quarterbacks. I don't
(01:29:03):
know if he tore up the league but behind a
great line with a great running back, good players outside,
very good tight end on a soft scheduled year, have
a really good year. That's what he had. Me. Wasn't
the m v P, this whole m VP of the
league stuff like Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers crazy
(01:29:24):
years last year crazy. I mean even Kirk Cousins, considering
the surrounding cast, it's not close they had. But we
have this, We have this incessant need in our society
to give an award to somebody who's quarterback of the best.
We gotta give you an award because you're the quarterback
of the best team when it was the best team,
(01:29:46):
because it's the best team. But when you have to
lead a team, when you have to pull everybody's bootstraps
up and take him to the promised Land, you fall
behind early. Now, all of a sudden, stuff gets super interested.
All right, then you got Kevin durant Um. I think
most people's estimation got caught. Is there what's the actual
term for this music? Now? Apparently it's called twitter burner accounts.
(01:30:10):
I actually didn't know that that's what it was. I mean,
I saw that twitter burner account, but I don't know,
is that what it is called. Is there an actual
term for having multiple Twitter accounts? I don't think so,
not that I've seen. Okay, so he had like a
Twitter burner account and he he forgot to switch. He
forgot that it switched over to his regular Twitter account,
and we we believe it's more probable than not to
(01:30:31):
take the NFL's kind of logic and some of this
stuff that this is Kevin Durant writing he meaning himself,
didn't like the organization or playing for Billy Donovan. His
roster wasn't that good. It was just him and Russ.
Imagine taking Russ off that team seeing how bad they were.
Katie can't win a championship with those cats? Was he wrong?
(01:30:54):
Was he wrong? Um? Look, there's a bunch of levels
to it. I would like to think that Kevin Durant
is more secure than this, and so I'd like to
think that Kevin Durant is secure in who he is.
But here's what I found. Do you know the cheapest
people are in society, Many times they're the richest people,
(01:31:17):
right rich. My my mom used to design the insides
of hospitals. Hospitals and medical office buildings. And there was
a time. Doctors don't make nearly as much as they
used to, at least percentage wise, right like now, investment
guys and hedge fund guys, like those guys are making
crazy money. Doctors still make a good living, but a
lot of them have the debt carried over. But still
doctors make a lot of money. She'd always tell me, Hey,
(01:31:39):
doctors may be making six figures, but they can be
among the cheapest human beings on Earth. And by and large,
the more you travel, the more people, with the exception
maybe of athletes and musicians, whatever, the people that have
real money oftentimes are the most frugal. It's the opposite
of what you would think. You'd think rich people wouldn't
be spendthrifts like we got more coming in, I'm gonna
(01:32:01):
make more, But generally they are spend threats. Do you
know some of the most miserable people are on earth comedians?
Wouldn't you think that somebody who could make an entire room,
or entire club or entire stadium full of people laugh
would be the most joy filled people? Have you ever
seen as it funny people? Do you ever see that
(01:32:23):
Adam Sandler's movie it's actually kind of a it's a
dark comedy. It's really really dark, but it talks about
how comedians are super dark and if you if you
ever heard any podcasts, and these guys, like a lot
of them, have emotional personal issues. They have all these demons.
(01:32:43):
Hell guy used to host this show, perfect example, super talented,
super talented, super dark. They go to dark places, but
that's where kind of the magic of their career is created.
Some of the funniest people on Earth are some of
the darkest people on Earth. Well, the other interesting thing
(01:33:03):
is you would think that the most successful people on
Earth are the most secure in people on Earth and
who they are. Michael Jordan's is the greatest basketball player
I've ever seen play in my lifetime. But Michael Jordan's
called They had the guy who beat him out in
high school come to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony,
(01:33:25):
pointed him out, called him out, and just wanted to
want to crap on him again. Why Because Michael Jordan's,
as great as he is, was equally insecure and would
look for anything he could to continue to mode him
motivate himself in life. When you're that good and that
well respected, you should have no enemies, right, the world
(01:33:46):
is your oyster. But that's not how it works. And
while you want to think that Kevin Durant at this
point in his life, having been in IT League, MVP,
having been a World champion, having being a gold medal
list in the Olympics, having been now an NBA champion,
haven't been an NBA Finals, MVP would be completely secure
in who he is. Did you see his new shoes?
(01:34:09):
One pair of shoes was the cupcakes, because that's what
Oklahoma City called him. The new pair of shoes has
all the things that he said people said about him,
is all these commercials where people are talking trash about him.
I I I operate under the assumption, the assumption that
these were all things, that these were all like faux
motivating factors that somebody from the ad agency came up with.
(01:34:34):
But now you read this and see how he's he's
following his own followers on Twitter and then fighting back
for in his own self defense, and you start to
realize that what you've seen in society, the people who
should be the most secure are actually the most insecure.
The people who should be the least spendthrifts are in
fact spendthrifts, and the people who should have the greatest,
(01:34:57):
happiest lives, like comedians, are actually super mark. People are
surprised by two things in the NFL, and to me,
they're actually really obvious because we've seen them before. I'll
explain next. But first you have to dig in and
decide how you're gonna protect your family, and you're all
(01:35:21):
of whoever you take care of if you're not here.
Most companies you call, they're gonna give you one option,
one policy, one rate. Slight quote is different. They'll give
you up to fifteen options. They give you lots of
options on highly rated life insurance. So I want you
to call them at eight eight one or four six
six eight one four four six six. They've protected over
(01:35:41):
one point two million families like say you're a four
year old guy. I'm four year old guy. You take
cholesterol medication. I'll take medication, but recent physical I do
have elevated to cholesterol. You get five hundred tho dollars
in life insurance frond er twenty five bucks a month.
That could be your cost to protect your family. I
want to give you us. I want you to give
quote a call eight eight eight one four four six six.

Fox Sports Readio. Mike Norvell is gonna join us. He's
the head coach of Memphis. They had a huge win,
huge win over you c l A over the over
(01:36:43):
the weekend. Um, you know it's it's interesting. We kind
of freak out about teams. Uh and I Dangel Williams
I thought was really really good when he joined us.
Uh he said, hey, Kancy, chiefs, are they're peaking too early?
Was this thing right? And then we stay they're peaking
too early, They're playing too well too early. I kind
(01:37:06):
of feel like We've seen this before from the Chiefs. Now, look,
they were good, especially without Eric Berry, and it wasn't
as close as the final score twenty, but they took
down the Eagles are coached by their former quarterback coach.
You go back and look over the last two two
(01:37:26):
and a half seasons, there has not been a better
team in the NFL than the Kansas City Chiefs, Right.
I remember they ended off last season, they started off
two and two, and then you know, the last twelve
games this season, they went what was it ten in two,
(01:37:49):
ten in two down the stretch. I mean, this is
a team that was twelve and four last year, lost
in that playoff game where nobody scored a touchdown, and
then you go to the previous season where they started
off I think it was one in five. I mean,
(01:38:11):
you look at this team and I think it was
they won ten a row to end the season, right,
and then they actually won the first game against Houston
and lost in New England in the playoffs. But over
the last two and a half years in the regular seam,
you just go back halfway through the regular season where
they were went tenoro tennaro plus twelve last year. That's
(01:38:35):
twenty two and four and now they've won two in
a row. Dude, that's a that's what twenty four and
four over the last twenty eight games in the regular season.
It's remarkable then, Cancie Chiefs going Super Bowl, Like, if
you had to bet your salary, would you bet they'd
(01:38:57):
win it? Or would you take the field? Of course
you take the field. And whether it's the fact that
Andy Reid has went to only one Super Bowl and
when he went to was it five straight NFC championship games,
or whether it's you don't believe in Alex Smith and
maybe the team understands not to believe in Alex Smith.
(01:39:19):
Whatever it is, We've seen this from Kansas City before.
We've seen regular season dominance from Kansas City before, so
it's really really hard to buy into that they are
going to be any different. The same is true for
the Seattle Seahawks. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as
bothered as anybody else by the Seahawks offensive line and
the fact that I took the Niners for this very reason.
(01:39:41):
Huge game for the Niners. I think they're young, athletic, physical,
I think they gotta I got a shot to be
pretty good in pretty uh uh, they gotta shot to
be pretty good in true order. Arizona's fading fading quickly.
I know they won in overtime against the Colts, but
they uh. The fact that they played the Colds that
closely does you all you need to know about the
(01:40:01):
arizult But um, I think San Francisco is a team
that is not that far away. Still, you wouldn't expect
it to be a twelve nine game. And the truth is,
if you actually watch that game might have been even
close to that. Who was it was? It? Is it
(01:40:23):
Marquis Goodwin? Who's uh? I can't remember the Marquis Goodwin
drop one on on second down when they were driving
in the fourth quarter. They ended up with a field goal,
but as a catch the absolutely should have had and
because of it, they end up settling for a fuel.
They don't get it on third down, settle for a
few goal. Seattle drives down, scores a touchdown, misses the
extra point. That's why it's twelve nine thirt nine. But
(01:40:47):
as much as we want to freak out about Seattle
not dusting off their opponent, this is kind of whose
Seattle has been. They have been slow out of the
gates the past couple of years. I go back and
look at last year. Last year they beat Miami twelve
to ten in a game they should have lost at
home to start the year. Last year they did lose
(01:41:09):
to the Rams in the second game of the season.
They were slow starters. Matter of fact, um the game
against Atlanta that they came back in one. Had they
lost that game, you look at if it or the
Buffalo game, might not have played the playoffs last season.
(01:41:29):
I think it was going bad in a bad way.
You go back to two thousand fifteen when they made
the Super Bowl, right, didn't they lose? No, they made
That was when they lost the Carolina Panthers in the playoffs.
They started out oh and two to start the year,
start out at St. Louis against the Rams like a
seven and nine Ram team loss in overtime, lost the
Green Bay Packers. How they started out that year? Uh?
(01:41:50):
Was it two and four to start the season? That
was the year they almost made missed the playoffs two
thousand and fifteen. Slow starters. Go back to two thin fourteen,
they lose to the Charge in the second game of
the year, nearly lose to the Broncos at home in
the third game of the year. They started three and
three that season. So my point is that while we
(01:42:13):
freak out, I've heard people say kanc City is the
best team in the NFL maybe and Seattle struggling maybe
Like these aren't, you're not wrong to say it. My
point is simply Kan say, Chiefs of the last three
seasons have been I've had dominant regular seasons at times,
it hasn't helped him win more than one playoff game.
The Seattle Seahawks over the past four or five years
(01:42:34):
have have been slow out of the gates. And we
went back to fourteen and they were three and three
and it hasn't stopped him. Yes, when Seattle won a
Super Bowl, they started out four oh before losing to
the Colts, and they only lost one game until December.
(01:42:54):
So if you want to say the year they won
the Super Bowl they were a dominant team, that's fine.
But every year since they have been slow starters, and
they found a way to figure it out and to
get into the playoffs and to be a nuisance in
the playoffs. And Seattle seems no different than even the
even now, even though their offensive line is still a
joke in terms how bad it is, and the same
can be said for Kansas City. Alex Smith has been
(01:43:14):
a very good regular season quarterback and Reid has been
a very good regular season coach. The Kansas City Chiefs
have always been a very good regular season team. But
until they win, until you show me in the playoffs,
they're gonna do something. I'm gonna say this is all
par for the course. Sketch up with Dan buy or
find out what else he's been working on. What he
got Dan, Doug. We've got a game tonight to wrap
up Week two in the NFL. That would be the
(01:43:35):
Lions and Giants from MetLife Stadium out l Beckham Jr.
Remains a game time decision for New York because of
his sprained ankle. Of course, he didn't play last week
against the Dallas Cowboys, but Ezekiel Elliott did and it
looks like Zeke is going to continue playing. The adjunction
that put a hold on his six games suspension remains
in place after a judge ruled against the NFL today. Now,
the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans could
(01:43:57):
reinstate the suspension, but if they don't, it will continue
to play for the Cowboys, who will face the Cardinals
coming up in Week three. Those Cardinals gotta win yesterday
against the Colts against Colts quarterback j Kobe Brissette. Brissette's
going to start Week three four Indianapolis against the Browns.
Is Andrew Luck is not yet ready to come back.
Panthers head and Greg Olson's gonna miss six eight weeks
after undergoing surgery today for a broken foot. Linebacker Vic
(01:44:21):
Beasley of the Falcons out at least a month after
tearing his hamstring, and last night's went over the Packers.
Redskins gotta win against the Rams, but they were pretty
beat up. Head coach Jay Gruden saying that corner Josh Norman,
along with running back Rob Kelly and Ted and Jordan
Read are all day today with injuries. It was quite
a day for Auburn football. One day after being charged
with public intoxication, fifteen ranked Auburn dismissed backup quarterbacks Shawn
(01:44:43):
White and Celtics card Kyrie Irving. Doug told the ESPN
that one of the reasons he didn't talk to Lebron
James prior to requesting a trade from Cleveland was because
quote I don't think you'll owe anything to another person
in terms of figuring out what you want to do
with your life. End quote. Uh, look, I don't think
that came across nearly the way he wanted to come across,
or maybe he doesn't care, right, Um, And I don't
(01:45:05):
think you necessarily owe it to somebody, But I also
don't think you don't owe it to somebody. You know
what I'm saying. It's like, um hmm. Look, I'm trying
to be the best parent I can be, right Um.
And so while I don't I don't make all kids
(01:45:27):
call me Mr. Gottlieb. I do like when they at
least call me Mr. Gottlieb when they first meet me,
you know what I mean? And I tell my kids, like,
you don't call him call him Dave, Like you don't
call him Dave, like call him Mr. Whatever. You know
what I mean, call him his name. Um. When we
when my kids go to a birthday party, I make
sure at the end of the birthday party, they go
up and make eye contact with the parents, both of
(01:45:48):
them if they're possibly there, and say thank you, and like, look,
this weekend I was coaching literallygue baseball, my son's fallball team,
and kids come up and say thanks coach, you know,
like even kids that I didn't playing nearly as much
as they want to play, Like that's raising it a child, right,
So it's it's doing. You don't have to do it.
You don't have to do it. But the idea that
(01:46:09):
Kyrie I's like, I don't owe him anything. Like nobody
said you had to call Lebron James, but why wouldn't you.
It's it's when you sign a scholarship. When you sign,
you know, they have these announcements and kids they post
on Twitter and they do the ceremonies and they put
the hat on. Like one of thing you're supposed to
do is call the other coaches that recruit you, offer
you a scholarship, came to your house, met your coach,
(01:46:31):
met your parents, and you go, hey, coach, thank you
so much recruiting me, offering your scholarship as an honor,
I've decided to go to school X, Y, and Z.
And it doesn't even mean you're you're passing and across
with those coaches ever again, but it's the right thing
to do. And I'm kind of surprised that Kyrie was
so put off at the idea that he had to
call Lebron James. It's like Lebron James and my daddy,
(01:46:54):
like nobody said he was, but like you still call
Lebron like, hey, man, thanks for everything. I just I
want to my own deals. It was a weird he
he seemed very aloof. It seemed very aloof in the
way he answered it. And I don't blame him for
wanting to to to change, but it was a very
aloof way of doing it. Alright, let's uh, let's talk
(01:47:16):
some college football, shall we. I was sitting next to
Colin Cowhard on his set last week and he called
me up and he's like, hey, you want to know
an upset this week? I said sure. You said Memphis
is gonna beat U c l A. I said, I
only got Mike normal onman, he was. I remember the
Arizona State was a really good job. I know they
got a lot of players, right, previous coaching staff all
went to Virginia Tech. They were doing well. I'm sure
(01:47:38):
they recruited well into the Ferguson kid, a quarterback, but
I don't Maybe U c l A kind of figure
some things out. He's like, nah, like Memphis. Sure enough,
Cal heard. I'll give him credit. He nailed that one
in Memphis Head coach Mike Norville joins us on the
Doug got the show, coach. Um, Look, you coached against
U c l A. In the past, the game was
at home, you got you have a tremendous talent at quarterbacks,
(01:47:58):
some really good wide receiver and some good running backs
as well. Give me your sense for your own how
you thought the game would play out in comparison to
how it did play out. Well, I mean you're coming
into the game. You know, we knew it was going
to be a great challenge for us. You know U.
C l A. Was have been playing uh extremely well,
especially you know, offensively for the last five quarters. I mean,
(01:48:20):
you know, for the end of the NM game all
the way through Hawaii. Uh you know, you know, you know,
Josh Rosen, I think it is one of the top
quarterbacks that you know in the country. And we knew
we had our handsful and we were without some guys
on on defense. We were down you know, four starters
on defense, and so we knew we had to be
uh extremely efficient, uh you know, offensively, and uh you know,
we had to go out there and and make plays.
(01:48:42):
And you know, I was really proud of our guys
the way that they prepared. Um, you know, it was
a showcase game for our university of obviously being at home,
you know, against the top twenty five opponent, and uh,
you know, I thought our guys did a phenomenal job
and in battle to the end. Ye give me a
quick update, J. J. Russell, one of your special teams
kids got heard it was that was a vicious hit.
He was taken off on a stretcher. Is he gonna
(01:49:03):
be okay? He is? He is? He was. You know,
we we took all for cautions, uh, you know, while
he was there on the field, and uh, you know,
we end up getting back in the locker room and uh,
you know, he was. He ended up being fine. He
was there at halftime, got to go in and speak
with him, and then after the game he was able
to be in there with us, and so you know,
he's gonna be fine. He's have to go through the
(01:49:23):
normal protocol M. But you know, we were just you know,
surely cautious while he was while he was there on
the field, and you know, it was definitely a scary moment. Uh,
I mentioned, I mentioned Riley Ferguson was getting a ton
of attention rightly, so, but I can't help but point
out that in you know, you had the second game canceled,
and so you go back and you know, when you
guys played ULM, when you guys played Louisiana Monroe, like,
(01:49:47):
here's a guy with great stats coming in great reputation,
your offense. Obviously, you give quarterbacks a ton of opportunities,
and he really struggled. I mean his your your your
only game before this U c l A game. He
was ten of twenty five ninety seven yards passing. It
was really Darrell Henderson and Patrick Taylor running the football
that helped you win that football game. Were you were
(01:50:08):
you hiding your offense. Are you're trying not to show
something to hold it back for U c l A.
Or was he just that bad? Well, I mean the
first game that we played, we played in the remnants
of Harvey, and you know that storm hit right as
the game started and there was a you know, the
conditions really affected a lot of what we what we
were able to do. And uh, and so you know,
I tell you, you know, it was a great job
(01:50:29):
by Riley in the sense of, uh, you know, we
weren't able to go out there and run the full
offense in game one, and you know, obviously his stats
weren't you know what what he had been used to.
We we're we've been used to. But we were able
to establish the run. Uh. You hit a lot of
explosive plays in game one with the running game, and uh,
you know, the sun was signed and there on Saturday,
and you know, the win wasn't blowing and it was
(01:50:51):
definitely a lot more favorable conditions to go out there
and show, you know what, you know, what he's capable of.
And you know, I thought, you know, you know, Riley,
you know, our receiving corps tight end. You know, everybody
did a great job to be able to open up
the full capabilities of what we could do offensively. Um,
everybody obviously was talking about Rosen coming in. Riley had
himself an incredible day. Uh what what's impressed you about
(01:51:13):
him as a guy who's coached a lot of good
quarterbacks along the way. Yeah, you know, I thought the
thing Riley did a remarkable job was, you know, he
didn't play a perfect game by any means, and there
was a few things that, um, you know, a few
players I'm sure he would like to have back, but
he never allowed a negative play to effect the next one.
And you know, he kept he kept progressing on and
kept going through his reads. Um, you know, he's able
(01:51:35):
to locate the ball, you know, exceptionally well. And he
was just you know, he waited for the opportunity he
took with the defense was given him. And uh, you know,
I was really really pleased with you know, in a
game with so much hype for us and you know,
an opportunity to play it on the national stage. You know,
Riley really let the game come to him and that
was It was fun to watch, It was fun to
be a part of the coach and you know, I
(01:51:57):
was really proud for how our guys showed up and
and and the of which they played. It was fourth
and five, I think right the last play U C
l A had the ball fourth and five there down.
Do you when you're on the sideline are do you
have any out of body mummy like, dude, I don't
want to be the other end of this another Josh
Rosen comeback. What's what's that like? In terms of as
a as an offensive guru watching Rosen operate his offense
(01:52:20):
after that pass interference call knocked them back to get
it to fourth and five. Take me through what's going
on as you got the headset on. You know, I
was really uh yeah, I was quite quite confident, and
you know, I know there's an exceptional quarterback. You are.
Guys defensively really did a phenomenal job in the fourth quarter.
I think they scored with about twelve minutes left and uh,
you know, you know in the game, and you know,
(01:52:41):
our guys went out there the next series were able
to create a takeaway you you you got an interception
from them. Um, you know obviously on that drive, you
know we're able to get them, get them pushed back.
They had a long guarded situation and then came down
to the fourth down play, and you know, our guys
were prepared. You know, I thought they did an exceptional
job and coverage matchion routes. Uh, you know, when I
saw that ball hit the ground, you know, you know
(01:53:02):
I was, I was obviously extremely proud. It's the way
that our team competed, and you know it was a
rid shirt freshman that was getting his first action. Uh,
you know of the of the season due to injury.
And you know, I was really proud of Jacoby Francis
and everybody on our defense for for being prepared for that,
for that opportunity that showed up. You know what, what's interestingly,
Mark Norville, head coach of Memphis, joining us or two
and o on the season just tuck took down U
(01:53:23):
c l A. People forget, I mean, flenty did such
a really good job to turn around. People forget two
thousand and thirteen. This is a program three and nine lost,
UH lost their last three games. I lost what seven
to the last nine games? I mean, the program was
in was in bad, bad shape, and he obviously began
the process of turning it over. But it's really hard
(01:53:44):
to pick up the baton and run with it when
it's not your program. What's that process been like for you?
Of of and and even Flenta his last year before
he left to for to for Virginia Tech. Remember they
kind of faded down the stretch. They lost UH three
of their last four games. How have you been able
to build and and win consistently? That's the hardest thing
to do in college football. Well, you know, this was
(01:54:06):
an opportunity that I was extremely excited about you know what,
I've known this area and you went to I went
to college in Arkansas from Texas. You've always recruited the
you know, the this this area you know, surrounding Memphis,
and you I always believe that this was a job
and a place could that could have great success. I mean,
to be a part of the Memphis community. Uh. The
(01:54:26):
excitement that's been generated by our football program. Uh, you know,
the support that we have, I mean, you know, it's
there's a great buzz on what we're doing. And you know,
our first two years, we've been able to have the
best recruiting classes in school history. You know, the people
are people, and and players are excited about what they
can come and do here at Memphis. And uh, you
know that's been you know, probably one of the greatest
(01:54:47):
joys of the job. And and and you know, being
able to to to continue the success that we've had
and continue to progress our program because you know, there
is such a an excitement from every every as fact
and so um, you know, it's been a lot of
fun you know as a coach. As a coach to
be able to come into this situation and uh, you know,
We've had a lot of young players that have had
(01:55:08):
to step up and play for US early. Um, and
then you know, seeing that, seeing those guys you know,
really continue to develop and when they get their opportunity
to go out there and play at such a high level,
it's been been quite a joy. Um. Look, you know
you bounced all around going, you know, starting at Central obviously,
going to Tulsa and Pittsburgh and uh and that Arizona
States that have you guys all kind of traveled together.
(01:55:29):
You know how this thing works. You win a couple
of games, especially at this level, and you show that
your team can win consistently and everybody, I mean, look
when I Google search your name. As soon as we
have young oh he's now he puts himself in position
for Power five jobs. Have you have you decided how
you're gonna handle that when inevitably, the more wins you have,
the more people talk about the next job instead of
(01:55:50):
talking about this job. How do you handle that? You know,
it's it's focusing on today, you know obviously, Uh, you know,
coming into the season, there's been a lot of people
talking about our program. You were were picked to win
the West Division. Uh, you know, in the preseason. You know,
a lot of our players are on award on a
ward watch list, and you know, like I tell them,
anytime people from the outside are talking about the job
(01:56:11):
that you're doing and and and what our program stands
for is a great compliment. Uh. I believe we've got
a special opportunity in front of us. And you know,
but the only way we're gonna gonna be able to
accomplish our goals for this season is to focus on today.
You go out there and be better than we were yesterday.
And if we can continue that progression, Uh, you know,
then I think we can accomplish some great things. But
you know, we really don't worry about anything, you know,
(01:56:33):
about what people are saying. You just focus on the
job at that hand. And uh, you know, we're we're
extremely grateful for where our program is and where we
believe it can go to. So uh, you know, we're
just we're focused on today. You know. Uh, if people
make it a big deal about the start time, saying
U c l A kids had their sleeping caps on,
that they were still they were wiping the sleep out
of their eye. Uh didn't it was that was that
mandated part of the schedule. They had to be had
(01:56:55):
to be a nine o'clock Pacifico startime. Man, I'll tell
you when they were up seventeen to seven or I didn't.
I didn't quite see it. Every day. I wish they
would have a little bit more sleep and dry And
that was That was a great thing that was about
the game is that it wasn't It wasn't a game
where we jumped out early. You know. It was it
was something there was like seven lead changes. It was
a game that you had to I mean, you had
(01:57:15):
the battle and there was there was adjustments, there were
things that had to go back and forth. Um, it
was I mean it was a real college football game
on both sides, and you have some great players out there. Uh,
you know, it was a lot of fun to be
a part of. And you know, you know, I mean
at the end of the day, you mean, our guys
made enough players to win the game. By no means
do we play a perfect game. I mean we turned
we turned the ball over a few times that we
(01:57:36):
would like to have back. You know, it was we
had some miscommunication, but you know, our guys battled through.
And I was so proud of the heart that they
showed and you know there at the end, uh, you
know we did enough to win, did enough to win,
got a big win. Liberty Boll was rocking. And your
your school and your team getting the respect they deserve. Coach,
keep it up, congratulations and thanks for joining us on
Fox Sports Radio. Thank you so much, and go Tigers.
(01:57:57):
It's Mike Normal is the head coach of the Memphis
Fighting Tis Heal Memphis used to be for his Memphis
State as Memphis Teachers College. You know that was the first. Yeah,
they're sorry, there's a two and o team in the NFL.
I'm a little worried about. I'll tell you who that is. Next.
What True Car. You can find out what other people
in your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
(01:58:19):
car buying experience. A little concerned about a two an
O tea and tell you that is in mere moments. Plus,
we gotta pick Monday night football. Let's let's let's catch
you up on everything in the world of sports as
quickly as we can. Here's the press, the Press, Dan
Buyer what he got another test tonight for Odell Beckham Jr.
(01:58:41):
He'll test his ankle in pregame warmups, a game time decision.
As those Giants wrap up Week two against the Lions tonight,
I met Life Stadium in New Jersey. You got tonight.
I like the Lions with the points, Lions with the points.
For those of you who are asking, or even those
of you who aren't asking, the Giants are three point
favorites at home. John Ramos, who do you like? I'll
(01:59:04):
take the Lions. Lions on the road. What about you?
Ryan Music making a hat trick? Oh, I'm gonna take
the New York Giants at home. I think this is
stealing money. Giants had to come, Lions had to come
from behind. Giants were terrible. But again we overreact to
week one. Week two tens tends to balance things out.
I'll take the g man. Everybody else has the Lions
getting three points. I have them laying the man laying
(01:59:25):
three points. The injunction that put a hold on Ezekiel
Elliott's six game band remains in place, and others can
get confusing, But right now, Ezekiel Elliott can continue to
play for the Dallas Cowboys. They have the Cardinals coming
up a week from tonight too. I love that you
said he can get confusing, because I even get confused.
Big news is there's no news. He's still playing. Although
if there was a game in which he'd like to
count towards the suspension, shouldn't you have counted yesterday? Like, Hey,
(01:59:48):
I didn't really try that hard. Once we got down.
You see the interception, I didn't even move. You can
count that one against my total. We were talking about
last week. Some guys are on the here, like if
he pulled a hamstring that the Cowboys in the NFL
PA just drop everything and the suspension could began. If
he was injured, that couldn't happen. That wouldn't be allowed.
But Panthers are gonna be without ten and Greg Olsen
for six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery today for
(02:00:11):
a broken foot. Olsen never missed his time for the Panthers.
Now could miss more than half the season. This is uh. Look,
I think this is gonna be a tough little stretch
here for the Carolina Panthers. They haven't looked good in
the first two weeks of the season. Now you lose uh,
you lose the most important passing target for Cam Newton
Olsen's Olsen's boorderline Hall of Fame good, that's how good
(02:00:32):
he is. And Kelvin Benjamin's got a bump shoulder. He
got smashed in the shoulder. You know, Like, I think
they beat the Saints at home, but this is a
team that I'm uh cautiously pessimistic about, even though they're
two and out. No official update from Green Bay AT's
on Jordy Nelson had coach Mike McCarthy gonna have a
press conference in a couple of hours which will likely
update nelson status after leaving with that quad injury last night.
(02:00:55):
But we do know those Falcons have already rolled out
linebacker Vick Beasley for Week three. He likely towards hamstring
last night and that win against Green Bed partially torn hamstring.
You ever heard of hamstring before? Uh, you know, when
you come back from it, you never really know when
you're back right. You come back, you think it feels okay,
then you start to go full speed, you pull it again.
It's not pulled as a partially torn hamstring. Ouch for
(02:01:16):
a Falcons team that could not have played better for
a good portion of the game. South Carolina had football
coach will must Champ apologize today. Doug to the Kentucky
football team and head coach Mark Stoops after game. Cock
captains didn't shake hands with UK during the coin flip
on Saturday. You know they go to midfield heake heads
or tails. Kentucky ended up winning the game by tanant
have won the last four over South Carolina. How about
(02:01:37):
Kentucky is tied a top the SEC East Conference. About
that part of it is Tennessee should have eaten Florida.
They did not. Vandy did beat Kansas State, Georgia hasn't
Bandy and George haven't played an SEC game. But Missouri
of course lost to South Carolina last week. Missouri stinks
(02:01:58):
away is like the optics of no, this is business.
We're not gonna shake hands, tough guys. Oh we're scared. Um,
I'm scared to read this. But USA Today is doing it,
launching a site that is entirely devoted to Lakers rookie
point guard a Lonzo Ball. Yes, USA Today we'll be
launching the Lonzo Wire. Trying to figure out different ways
(02:02:20):
to provide news to basketball fans. They said, there's a
lot of different Lakers sites out there, why not do
one specific to one of the young stars in the NBA,
the Lonzo Liire. Hey, we had the the Forbes list
of the most valuable NFL franchises, which the Cowboys were
on top. There were five teams under two billion dollars
with their valuations. Did you want to take a crack
(02:02:43):
at these five again? Um? Yeah, I'll take a crack
at him. Um okay, So let's see here. Um, since
any Bengals, Yes, that's one. It's gotta be small market,
gotta be small market, but gotta be small market. Um,
here's a of Cardinals. No, no, not one of the bottoms. Yes,
(02:03:03):
that's too. Oakland Raiders, now they're going to Vegas, right,
Indianapolis Colts they owned the stadium. That's right, jack Now
you said, you know Jackson Jackson Cleveland. Yes, two down,
three down, Yes, one more to go? Oh man, I
don't know. I think tonight. Oh. Detroit Lions they are
(02:03:27):
at pressed. Wow. Detroit Lions. Yeah. Everything you can't get,
lots of things cheap and downtown Detroit. That's true, That's
that's true. I know people who actually lived there. They
bought something a huge place in down Detroit. Problem is
it's in Detroit Right costs living going up, chance living
going down. Mark Slayer will join us tomorrow and we'll
recap Monday Night football. The Boys have the Lions, I
(02:03:47):
got the GM in. Have a great night, drive safe.
We'll talk tomorrow. Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio
