Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Oh, here we go, our number two on a Monday.
I've been on planes a lot recently. I forgot what
day it was. It's The Herd wherever you may be,
however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part
of your day. Thank God. I sleep on planes. I
feel bad for people that don't sleep on planes. I'm out,

(00:47):
they close the door. I'm out, moom a couple hours.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
I'm taking a pill or a gummy or anything.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
No. In fact, my wife offered me a gummy the
other night. Gummies are hot right now, say and I said,
you know what, I got a gin soda hanging out
with a family at a big event. I was like,
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
But then, don't you wake up on the planet have
to pee multiple times after drinking alcohol?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
No, no, I don't drink on planes. Oh no, I'm saying
that was at the part of this on planes, I
just fall asleep in water water water, and yeah, so
it's but I was offered a gummy this weekend only once,
only once, and I didn't know. You know, I'm not adverse.
People take what they want, your business, not mine. I
didn't know. I didn't have much understanding of gummies. So

(01:33):
I'm like, am I going to be like, you know,
flying over the house and like a human drone, like
don't know where I'm at or you know, I want
to be in conversation. These gummies are probably five milligrams
maybe ten. So you're a gummy guy.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
I'm well versed in gummies.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Hey, I'm not. I'm not judging.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
No, I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Hey to get through this political season, I'm a gummy
heavy pro gummy, all right, Colin Right? Colin wrong? On
a Monday, Baby, here we.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Go where Colin was right?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Oh, what do you know? Caitlin Clark led the WNBA
All Stars to a win over the Olympic team. Oh
so she is good enough to play for the women's
Olympic team, Colin, she would have been a distraction. No,
she's actually a distraction. Not playing for the Olympic team.
She's simply proving that she doesn't need to put in

(02:28):
all this time to be an elite player. Her offense
still can be rough, little turnover heavy, but in the end,
she's proving just like Jalen Brown not in the Olympics
for the men's a lot of this stuff is petty
and it's territorial. She proved she's good enough to be

(02:49):
on the Olympic team, which was a huge argument that
she wasn't.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I said, this men's Olympic team is deeper than the
Dream team. Think they're probably more skilled, but man, did
they struggle against South Sudan and leave it to Lebron that,
once again in year twenty two had to actually save
the team. Not a terribly focused team. We let Australia
back into a game and Serbia late. I think it's

(03:17):
just kind of the reality of modern players. They don't
quite have the urgency i'd love, or the grit. But
I will say this, Lebron and ad if you're a
Laker fan, have looked like the most consistent two top
players for this club.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Where Colin was right, I defended.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
The Lakers drafting Browny James in a bad draft, he'll
be fine. Well. His official Summer league stats almost nine
points a game, three and a half rebounds. He got
better every game, and he was an excellent defender. He's
fine again. I thought, from the first Summer League game

(03:56):
to the last, much more comfortable offensive. He found a
little bit of a stroke. Take a deep breath. He's
good enough to get drafted. I don't ever think he'll
be more than a rotational NBA player, But in this draft,
the fifty fifth pick is probably going to be, regardless
of who it is and wearing Lands, a rotational player.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I think the Niners are eventually going to move off
either Deebo Samuel or Brandon I Yuke. But ESPN reporting
the Niners now are saying we're not moving him. They've
gotten interest. I just don't think I think you can
get a first rounder for him. They just drafted two receivers,
and I believe that debo fits in to Kyle Shanahan

(04:46):
his DNA more. I think it's a debo Shanahan Christian
McCaffrey offense, not a Brandon I Yuke offense. Though I
think he's super talented a top five receiver in the league.
But I think he's getting moved. And another story this
week the Niners aren't moving him.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Where Colin was right?

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Well, I've been saying that I think Nick Sirianni's on
the hot seat, and Diana Russini reporting that Jalen Hurts
and Sirianni are still growing as a relationship and that
he is on some level of heat going into this season.
ESPN reporting also that the Eagles kick the tires privately

(05:30):
about Bill Belichick. So I don't know if Sirianni is
the fit. I don't. I don't know. He sometimes he
acts a little juvenile. Reports now that he and Jalen
Hurts is a work in progress. Either way, this idea
that the job is his, he's safe. I've said I
think he's on a similar hot seat to Mike McCarthy.

(05:51):
But it's McCarthy that everybody understands is on the hot seat,
and Sirianni people think he's safe.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
I don't where Colin was right?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Show heo Taani. I said it years ago, I said
it this year, I said it earlier. This season is
better than Babe Ruth. What a last week he's had
and did you see this Yesterday.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
To one is Hammer Day, Bright Center Film way out
of here.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Hello, Tony joins the home run party.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
A thirty home run season for shaw hel Tony's Oh,
how do you like that?

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Four hundred and seventy three feet. That's the second longest
home run since they've been keeping track at Dodger Stadium.
He also had the three run home run in the
All Star Game. He's gonna win MVP as a DH.
He is just a remarkable player. He's not even pitching.
I mean, the kid is absolutely remarkable. The gambling controversy

(06:52):
shrouded in that early no impact. And by the way,
the Dodgers, you know, guys sitting in front of him
starting pitching or all banged up. So he's had to
carry a lot of the load this year. That's more pressure.
Hasn't affected him one bit. Where Colin was wrong, I
said Caitlin Clark would triple the WNBA media rights in

(07:17):
the next couple of years. I was wrong. She's quadrupled it.
According to a story, the league will get two point
two billion over the next eleven years. Now. They've had
a lot of good players, but you know, let's be honest,
Magic and Bird, Connor McGregor. They were catalysts for their sports,

(07:38):
not just great players. And Caitlin Clark getting them on,
you know, kind of private flights, getting this kind of
media deal. I think it's good for the league. But
let's be honest here, this is another reason you figure
out a way to get her on the Olympic team.
She doesn't need to pay dues because she's paying everybody
else going forward in this league. Wherein was right, well,

(08:01):
I said last week, Patrick Mahomes will figure it out.
He just won back to back Super Bowls with Rashi
Rice and Juju Smith Schuster was as top receivers. Yeah,
this weekend with a rookie Xavier Worthy, Mahomes rolls out
left on corks about a seventy yard bomb. Worthy at
the other end makes the catch. Jay Mack. I know
this hurts, but this team won the Super Bowl last

(08:21):
year and they were kind of bad weeks eleven through fourteen.
Look at that throw o, Patrick Mahomes. As we said,
Brady Mahomes, they just figure stuff out, and it looks
like they have found their next number one star playmaker.

(08:42):
Where Colin was right, I said, I think the New
York Giants had become the Jets with more trophies. But
this Hard Knock show, yikes, is it uncomfortable with John Mara,
Joe Shane, the general manager. We've seen several pieces of video.
My knock on the Jets has never been lack of talent.

(09:03):
It's sort of been lack of a plan. And as
I watched this Hard Knocks I'll be honest with you,
I am uncomfortable for Joe Shane, Brian Dable, the Maras
and everybody with the Giants, basically the Jets with more trophies.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon eastern nin am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Okay, so we got into this discussion yesterday, and I've
said this before. Timing and talent have a lot to
do with how quarterbacks get paid at any point based
on when you signed your contract, Patrick Mahomes can be
the sixth highest paid quarterback and Kirk Cousins can be
the highest. But if I was a general manager and

(09:52):
or you were, and we paid quarterbacks on what they
should make in terms of winning, production, health, the ability
to elevate others, I made a list yesterday, and I
think it comes into three tiers. This is how I
think the quarterback should be paid in order, based on

(10:13):
four or five factors. A big one is health. You
gotta be available. A second one is you know, winning,
and a lot of that's regular season. Are you productive consistently?
And the other thing is do you elevate others? If
others elevate you, you don't make my list. A lot
of quarterbacks. I would say brock Purty is elevated by

(10:36):
the coach and the roster. There's no proof he's elevating
Garoppolo got to a Super Bowl and lost that. Brock
Purty to this point hasn't done anything Garoppolo didn't do.
Do you elevate your franchise, your coach, your team, your receivers.
That's what we saw CJ. Stroud do. We're like, wow,
he's elevating others. My argument always been Dak is elevated

(10:57):
by others. The more Dak reliant the cowboy have become,
the more he throws forty times or more, they have
a bad record. So this is do you elevate others?
Are you productive? Do you win? Are you healthy? And
here's the order I would pay quarterbacks. It's not the
ten best, it is how I would pay them based

(11:17):
on my ramifications. Number one would be Patrick Mahomes four
super bowls in five years. He just won a Super
Bowl back to back where his leading receivers were Rashi
Rice and Juju Smith Schuster. He is without question the
best and should be highest paid quarterback in the league.

(11:39):
Number two somebody who hasn't missed a game since his
rookie season. Josh Allen fifty one total touchdowns last year
led the NFL ten more than any other quarterback ten more.
Number three and this is the next four. I believe

(12:00):
the first two are on a different level. The next
four are quarterbacks I like, but they have a flaw.
Lamar Jackson I worry that he can't win in the postseason,
but I would make him number three. He has the
second highest winning percentage in this league, behind only Mahomes,
and he is without question the best dual threat quarterback

(12:22):
in league history.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Number four.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I worry about his age, but Matt Stafford maybe has
the second best arm in the league.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
He is.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Probably in terms of ability two minute drill to run
an offense as good as anybody, including Brady maybe with
the exception of Brady, a great two minute quarterback, great arm,
silly arm, talent, excellent leader, academic of the Linus scrimmage,

(12:55):
but the ability to add lib in the touchdown. Number
five big concerns about his health. Joe Burrow highest completion
percentage in league history. Offensive line and injury histories worry me,
but I feel like he is the one quarterback in
the league that can go toe to toe with Mahomes
and equal him in accuracy and efficiency. Health the big concern.

(13:18):
And finally, Jared Goff doesn't miss games. Oh, by the way,
led the NFL last year in passing yards including the
playoffs fifty four hundred. He led the sad sack Detroit
Lions to their first NFC championship in thirty three years,

(13:39):
but he's not mobile strictly a pocket quarterback. The final
four would be in my third category, rising Stars. Not
everything's perfect yet. I think we'll have answers and results
after this year. Number one Justin Herbert first quarterback in
league history to begin his career without much support on
the O line with three straight four thousand yard passing seasons.

(14:05):
Number eight CJ. Stroud. I know it's one year. The
kid's accuracy, poise and ball placement is insane. First player
in league history with over four thousand yards passing and
up passer rating over one hundred as a rookie. I
don't think he's got a lot of mobility. His comp

(14:27):
was always GoF but he's got more than Jared. The
kid had a remarkable rookie year. Next up, Jordan Love
Week ten on, behind a young old line and the
youngest group of receivers and tight ends, was the best
statistical quarterback in the league. I know it's only been
eight weeks, but what I saw in those eight weeks

(14:47):
was a guy that walked into Dallas and was significantly
more accurate, more athletic, and more poised than Dak Prescott.
He's number nine and ten. I worry about the turnovers,
but he was the best high school and college quarterback,
and he got this team of playoff win throughout dysfunction.

(15:10):
Trevor Lawrence three different head coaches already with the Jaguars,
a bit of a mess. Back to back four thousand
yard passing seasons. This is his best roster yet. Tall,
good arm, mobility. Trevor Lawrence at ten so these If

(15:32):
I was GM, this is the order in which these
would be the ten highest paid players. Mahomes and Allen
are superstars, Lamar Stafford Burrough Goff great quarterbacks with a
concern or a flaw. And Tier three Herbert Stroud, Love
and Lawrence rising stars who I think by the end

(15:55):
of this season there will be no argument they should
be top ten in compensation. Jalen Hurts, for the record,
was number eleven. Bud He's had one great year with
a coordinator who's now a head coach. Dak I had
at twelve.

Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber list lame.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
And me well, you know what, it's called over promise.
You should be good at it because you've been over
promising women for years.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if it's I are arguing about
something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue
on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Fifteen years in the NFL as one of the premiere
deep threats and a three time pro bowler, LA's Deshaun
Jackson stops by in studio. By the way, for people
that may not realize this, you have twenty six career
touchdowns of sixty plus yards, most in league history. Five
touchdowns of eighty or more tied for the most in

(17:49):
league history thirty four touchdowns of fifty plus yards only
Jerry Rice has more. So to the very end, health
was the issue, not the speed. You still got behind guys.
So I want to start with this. Let's take Kansas City.
They have a young speedster like you. You were at
cal Long Beach poly Cow NFL. Immediately you popped Xavier

(18:11):
Worthy is his name? Now, when you came into the league,
people said, well, he's a little light. That's the knock
on Worthy. Your thought if you had to give a
young receiver who's under one hundred and eighty pounds advice,
do you know Xavier Worthy? What would you give him advice?

Speaker 3 (18:26):
Yeah, I personally know Xavier Worthy.

Speaker 6 (18:28):
This it's crazy because you know in college he reached
out to me a few times. We went back and
forth on Instagram and you know, just looking at his
his skill. I actually did some scouting for the Eagles
this offseason, me and how he got a little relationship
and you know, yeah, he gave me like six seven
receivers and I had to do some scouting on him.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
So Xavier Worthy throughout all the receivers.

Speaker 6 (18:47):
I did scouting and personally myself, I would just say,
don't make it bigger than what it is.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
It's football at the end of day.

Speaker 6 (18:54):
The reason why I came in early on as a
rookie and had successes because I came in and I
didn't make the game bigger than was. You know, I
was very confident in myself regards to the stature, the size.
I was only like one sixty nine exactly. Guys was like, oh,
he's not gonna do this, He's not gonna do this.
But I think gods of his stature are stature. We've
been hearing that our whole life. So for me, I

(19:15):
just always use that to advantage. You know, people thought
I was too small, I wasn't gonna do this, So
the nay sayers, I just used it to advantage. I say,
y'all think I'm not gonna do this, I'm gonna come
to the NFL and prove to you I can do this.
So me just make the game not big. You know,
it's footba at the end of the day. Every step
of the way, it gets faster, guys get bigger. But
I mean, if you got hurt and you don't.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Let people hit you.

Speaker 6 (19:34):
See, don't let people hit you exager Hey they can't.
They can't hit what they can't catch, you know what
I'm saying. So at the end of the day, just
stay fast, man and coach reed. If anything else, I
know he's gonna put him in a great position to win.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
Yeah, so for sure we love Andy. Now you also
you played with Lamar Jackson, you played with you know,
Jalen Herbs. You've also played with older veteran quarterbacks like
Kirk Cousins of Matt Stafford. So we have two quarterbacks
in the league. I think they're both gonna hit. I
think Jaden Daniels is underrated and Caleb Williams is properly rated. Right.

(20:07):
How many games will it take for you to go
that works? Like, like, do you need to see? Hell?
Could you watch in practice? You see an exhibition game?
What will you need to say? Okay, that's official, that's
gonna work. Jalen Hurts, by the way, did you see
him early?

Speaker 6 (20:23):
Yeah, preferd I was gonna I was gonna give you
an instance on that. So when I was in twenty nineteen,
I came back to the Philadelphia Eagles and we had.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Carson Wentz was our starter, yep.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
And I remember specifically me and Howie Roseman sitting back
and Jalen Hurst was a number two quarterback. That was
the year they drafted him second round. They're like, why
would you draft like Howie, why would you draft him
second round? You just paid Carson Wentz all this money.
Why would you pick this guy second round? People didn't
understand it, right, So speed up. Carson Wentz gets hurt.

(20:52):
Now we're in practice, We're in training camp, and you
know obviously the second the second team always go against
the one defense. So I'm sitting back a pres Me
and how we sitting next to each other and be like,
this guy is gonna be special. How he looked over
to me, he was like, d Jack, you see that.
I'm like, hey, you got something in that guy right there?
He was making the ones look like they were like
practice squad players, And I was like, it was just
something about his morale. He went into the huddle, he

(21:14):
took you know, ownership in the huddle. He was calling
out the plays and it was just it was he
was laid back. It was like the game wasn't too
big for him. So I look at guys like that,
like Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams college a lot of
starts in college. And and honestly, for me, I look
at that to see like.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
How are you gonna make the game? Look?

Speaker 6 (21:33):
Is it gonna be bigger than you? Is it gonna
be too much? Is gonna be overwhelming? Or are you
gonna be complaining? Like you want to see all that
body language? You want to see when you throw an interception?
How do you, you know, react to that? So for me,
I just think those guys they just got to show
up early, but it's gonna take time. You know, you're
not gonna be able to see, you know right away
that oh they might be that guy, but you might
see glimpse of it here and there.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
So you you mentioned something I remember seeing with Dak Prescott.
You mentioned you saw Jalen Hurts come manned respect. For me,
it's not just the throwing. When I watch a young quarterback,
is he in command to me? Are you in control
of the operation? If I see nervous feet, if I

(22:14):
see a guy that's lost at the line of scrimmage,
Like I think the Jaden Daniels thing is interesting because
I think he's sort of Lamar Jackson light. I don't
think he's as fast. I think he's better in the
pocket as a rookie. I think I watched them at
Arizona State, you did, I watched them at LSU. I
think Caleb Williams stole all the glare from everybody. I
think Jayden Daniels.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
That that has added pressure too.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
Is as far as Kata Williams like, I think you
know he's he was at SC You know you're hot.
You're in Hollywood, you got all the lights, camera actionally.
But one thing I will say about Jaden Daniels and
to to to your you know, remarkings on him, I
think he's awesome.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
I think, you know, guys like that far under the radar.

Speaker 6 (22:52):
You know, you're not the talked about guy, but you're
kind of somewhat being talked about. So he has it's
easy setting for him because he doesn't have the added pressure.
Caleb Williams he has the added pressure. He's going to
a team where they added Keenan Allen, the DeAndre Swift.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
You got the rookie from to Washington. You know what
I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
So I think like it sets up for success but
if he doesn't have the successes, like oh my god,
like now now what's next?

Speaker 3 (23:14):
You know, we just let go of fields, you know.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
So I think it's a little harder for him to
kind of like be set up for success. But jayde
and Daniels on the other side, he's kind of calm
selling under it, and he's like, you know what sets
up for great success for him as well too.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Who of all the corners you faced in your career,
So you were a speed guy. You were often in motion,
which you often do with smaller receivers to get them free.
Where there are one or two corners in the NFL
that you you just knew Sunday was gonna be a
tough day.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (23:44):
We actually every time we played UH and this is
early on in my crew. We used to play the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
UH A key to lead.

Speaker 6 (23:51):
He was a very physical I received very physical cornerback.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
He pressed at the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
You know, he was like six three, his arms like
from here to and it was like he always used
to come to line screens.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
But it was very challenging for me.

Speaker 6 (24:03):
So I thought early in my career he was like
the only guy that really like Jammy, I didn't. I
don't get jam you know what I'm saying. But he
got me one time and I was pissed off. I'm like,
you know what, that never happened again. But guys like him,
I you know, used to face Dyl Reeves. He used
to give me some good times.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Uh you know he's physical. He's another guy that can
say he's physical.

Speaker 6 (24:21):
But like one thing about Dyl, he like he just
since route recognition. He was able to read rouse, he
was able to read the quarterback. And I think another
one was like Richard Sherman. You know, he was a
longer statue of guy. He played in that Legionma Boom
defense like they were crazy in the era. But I
used to you know, honestly, what I would say, God's
never really wanted to guard me one on one. I'm
not saying they wouldn't, but throughout the course of a game,
like you gotta follow me everywhere and I'm fast, So

(24:43):
like who wants to guard the Shawan Jackson one hundred
percent of the time throughout the game, you know what
I'm saying. So for me, I think, you know it's
I give a lot of guys respect and credit but
throughout the course of a game, there was no one
that really just followed me around the whole game, like
they had safety help, you know, because they.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Didn't bombs over bag that right, it's by you know,
it's deep.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
So you played with Michael Vick and Philly the legendary
Monday Night.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Can My Dog. I know you've been on your show
a few times.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Michael. I love Michael.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
That's my boy, man.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
So Michael was such I mean when I was younger,
you'd see an occasional Michael Vick in high school, right,
maybe in college. Yeah, we'ren't on a Michael Vicks in
the NFL. What was it like to play with Michael Man?

Speaker 6 (25:26):
Honestly it was it was a dream come true for me. Uh,
you know, I got a crazy story. So, uh it
was me. I thinks Shady McCoy and Jerry McLean was
actually in the locker room and we got a crazy
call from uh coach Rees.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
It's like, hey, hey, young feeling, how you feeling, man,
I'm like, I'm good. Coach Mike was going on. You
usually don't call me. It's like, what would you do
if I told you we could.

Speaker 6 (25:46):
Get Michael Vick I'm like, what, Like, you said Michael
Vick because you know, she's fresh out of jail from
a situation. So I'm not thinking that I'm getting this
call from Andy Reid and he's telling me about Michael Vick, right,
And this is when obviously we had Donovan Manavivior. So
I'm like, oh man, and so he's like, old you feel,
I'm like, are you kidding me? Like I grew up
love of Michael Vick, Like you know, he was like
one of my first players that I fell in love with.

(26:07):
Like Michael Vick and Allen Iverson and co and Kobe
Bryant is like three people that I am my game after, right,
So I mean it was a dream come true. It
was no other person that I learned more in my
career because you know.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
How I grew up and how I was raised.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
You know, I always was hanging around my friends, always
had like extra curriculum homies hanging around.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
So that's you know, just growing up how I grew up.
You got the friends.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
He was like, hey, d I'm gonna tell you this
one thing go wrong, none of them, Dude's gonna be
here for you, he said, Trust me, I had a
situation where one of my boys I grew up with
had a little situation and they told on him and
something crazy happened. That how you got into the situation.
He was like, man, if it ever gets bad, these
dudes are not gonna be here for you. So I
just learned a lot from him because he said, you know,
as a professional, you gotta go to work.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
You can't bring these dudes with you. And I used to.

Speaker 6 (26:51):
I was the guy that tried to bring everybody with me,
let him experience games and traveling. But sometimes you know
that image is not what you want to put out there.
So for me, I learned a lot from Michael Vick
as a bit brother.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Andy Reid as a coach, he's probably the best. Well,
he's the best coaching the sport now. He's arguably the
best ever. Right, What was different about Andy Reid from
other great coaches? Because I'm looking at the coaches you had.
You hadn't harbed John McDermott, chip, you had good coaches,
John Gruden, What what's different about Andy Reid?

Speaker 6 (27:23):
I think Andy reid man first off, like you said,
I've been coaching from some great guys. I think Andy
Reid yet alone is the best that's been coached me.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
I miss a father figure.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
It was like almost having a dad two point zero
to be able to coach and to be able to like.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
You know, just command he can maar respect.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
He he gave you a heart, a hardship, but at
the same time he.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Loved you, so he'd bang on you.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
He would get on me boys.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
So I mean, when I tell you I used to
do things, he used to pull them glasses down to
give me that look.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
You ain't even got to say nothing. You knew he
was about business. You know what I'm saying. For me.

Speaker 6 (27:55):
He was from la He was a guy that grew
up and raised out here, so he knew what it
was like. He knew the temptation, he knew how I
tried that, you know, help and change the whole area
that I was raised in. So he was just always
telling me, like, when you come to work, ball got
to be the focus.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
You can't be worrying about what's going on back home.

Speaker 6 (28:11):
This person needs help or he's asking for money, like
all that stuff you gotta leave to the side. So
for me losing my dad in two thousand and nine,
you know, I lost my dad early. I was twenty
one years old, you know, going into my second year,
and he knew what I endured, and obviously my dad
meant everything to me. So me losing my dad and
Andy Reed stepping up to the plate and like almost
being like a dad in my life was like huge

(28:31):
to men.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
I will always love him.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
I actually just talked to him yesterday and he sent
me a text message talking about I had limits. He
said it, I had a flashbacks today. I said, coach,
whatch you mean? I look at the video and he
sends me the video my homes turned out and throwing
the ball all the way back and xavier' worthy worthy
catching the ball. I said, hey, coach, it's only one
to Sean Jackson.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
He said, he said, you're right, You're right, but you
see that. I said, I've seen that throat from that quarterback.
I said that.

Speaker 6 (28:57):
He said, you would have loved my homes. I'm like, man,
if i'd have been able to with mahmes, oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
You know what. I remember the first now I follow recruiting,
so I knew who you were, and you were at
Long Beach PAULI, which was sort of the road Runners,
which was kind of like sure, the track team of
the West Coast Football. Tell me if you remember this
CAL hosting Tennessee, Brent Musburger, ABC punk return.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
For sure one hundred percent.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
I mean I remember leading up all week because you
got to remember this. That was my sophomore year.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Yep.

Speaker 6 (29:26):
So my freshman year we went to Tennessee and got
our butts candid too.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
And I actually scored in that game. You know, I scored.

Speaker 6 (29:33):
I did, okay, But I was a freshman playing in
Tennessee that game, one hundred and ten.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
Thousand white and orange towels going. I'm like, I'm looking
at this stad like wow, this big time football. Right.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
So year two, they come to col all week in practice,
this punter is talking about all I'm putting the ball.
He didn't do nothing last year. I'm putting the ball
punting them. So I'm reading all these all these these
uh these messages or whatever the case may be, at
all these articles. And so the first first come up
in the game, they went through out all stuff.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Here comes here comes a wizard of Return.

Speaker 6 (30:03):
The Wizard of Oz returns right, So I go out there,
he booted, he kicks me.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
I'm like, oh my gosh. He kicks it.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
And what's crazy is I felt the guy coming down,
so it was a gunner. He got like a free
release and my my guy didn't block him.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Right. So I'm looking, I'm looking. I'm looking, as you
see I'm looking. I catch it.

Speaker 6 (30:19):
I jumped back, so I make a miss. So once
I moved here, I looked to the right, it was
another guy coming down. I'm like, oh man, I'm gonna
do this. So I like jumped forward and jump back
on him. And from there, man was it was all
his Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
It went not. We should try to find that. I
remember watching that and you did sort of a Michael
Jackson and Musburger didn't had never seen it, and Brent
went nuts.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
He lost his mind.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Man, Now, Berkeley's I don't look at you and go
Tony Gonzalez went to Berkeley. I'm like, Tony, how did.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
You hippies living in trees?

Speaker 6 (30:58):
They was living in trees because around this time they
was trying to redo the stadium and they didn't want you.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
I loved it.

Speaker 6 (31:04):
I mean for me growing up in Los Angeles, California,
and uh, you know, I committed. I gave a soft
commit to USC. But Pete Carroll he gave Patrick Turner
my number. I don't know if you know the story,
but Patrick Turner was a Tennessee guy, right, and he
was recruiting him. And at the time SC and Polly
we had like a merge, like everybody from Polly was
going to SC. So Pete Carroll just thought he had

(31:25):
me in the head, like she was like, all right,
we ain't got to do no extra recruiting for d Jack, right.
So going throughout the process, I'm telling them like, Pee,
I'm like, you gotta give me that number one.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I need that number one. It's Djack is number one.
I'm staying home. I'm la. And he ended up giving
number one to Patrick Turner.

Speaker 6 (31:39):
And before I committed, I'm like, well, I committed, But
before I officially committed, I was like, you sure because
Jeff Tevor he recruited me heavy. I said, you know
Calger's beach, y'all cause you know I was the year
Aaron Rodgers beat them here in the coliseum. I said,
Calgier's beach. I said, you sure, I can't get number one.
He's like, yeah, we got to give it to this guy.
He's coming from out of time. I'm like, all right,
made the move to go to cal. But for me,

(32:00):
growing up in LA is different. You know, Cale just
was open arms and I was able to really go
and focus. I feel like if I went to SCO,
they had too many distractions staying here at home.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Yeah, Cede Lamb has a lot of leverage, So ton
of leverage. Now Brandon and I you is upset, but
they have so many weapons, right, the teams got a
little bit of leverage. Yep, no CD Lamb, no receiving Core,
no Cowboys. Have you ever held out? I have? Is

(32:29):
it hard? I mean, what's the conflict between you're not
with your dudes? Yeah, but you want to get paid.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
I mean, honestly, for me, going back to twenty twelve,
and I just was talking about this situation, I think
I fell into a situation where Drew Rosenhouse was my
agent around that time. Man Drew Rodenhouse and the Eagles
organization they were they weren't really jelling well together around
this time because too they had all this situation with
t O and the Eagles and High Rosmen and all

(32:58):
that joke.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
They were a little shot.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
So they was kind of already had like you know,
they was already an ode. So I don't even think
it was me. It just kind of fell into the
play that Drew roden House was my agent. He was
trying a strong arm the Eagles and it's like, we're
not going for it. But Drew rosens House was like,
we're not going to camp, and me, I'm like, I
love ball. Like all I know is I'm like, I'm
not going to camp. Like what are you talking about?
I'm not going to camp. And throughout the process, I
think it was like a five or six day holdout.

(33:20):
I was getting fined like fifty thousand every day, and
you know me, I'm like, hold on, I'm trying to
get that new money. I ain't trying to go into
camp at that negative base, right, So it ended up
working out. But what I do suggest man to these guys,
I mean a lot of times you never know how
the holdouts go. Sometimes they work into your benefit, sometimes
they don't work into your benefit.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
So I mean, ceedee Lamb. I think he's.

Speaker 6 (33:40):
Definitely deserving of a new contrail question. You know, the
past two years alone, he led the league.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (33:46):
He led the league in receptions over the past two years,
you know, and and touchdowns he was third, and receiving
yards he was third. So I mean, and the guys
has been getting paid. There's no doubt in my mind
he shouldn't be at least right up under, you know,
justin Jefferson.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Finally briefly with Sean McVay. So I love mcvage, it's
my guy. But when McVeigh got the job, he was thirty.
I got interns that are almost that old. So when
you were with McVeigh, his energy, Yeah, I mean, like,
what is it like to have a coach that's younger
than some of the players exactly?

Speaker 3 (34:22):
So I got an interesting story.

Speaker 6 (34:24):
So what was that twenty twenty seventeen, I think of
the year the twenty sixteen twenty seventeen offseason. I got
a call, you know from my agent at the time
was Joe Siegel, and Joe Siegel had a relationship with
the owners for the Rams, and they actually called and
talked to Joe and was like, man, how was we
want to talk to d Jack. We want to know
how McVeigh was when he was in Washington, cause I

(34:44):
was in Washington for three years.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
It was like, how is McVeigh as a coach? Is
he how is he as a leader?

Speaker 6 (34:49):
They called I was like one of three players they
called so they called me, and you can if you
ever talked to me by, you could ask him my
line they called me. They called Trent Williams and I
want to say her By, that's my dog. And then
I want to say they called Pierre Garsson at the
time too, right, say just was curious on like, you know,
how is he because one thing that a lot of
people don't know.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
So Jay Gruden was our coach in Washington.

Speaker 6 (35:10):
Jay Gruden never got up in front of offense and
did any play any plays installed you know.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Sean McVay handled everything.

Speaker 6 (35:18):
And for me, I was like, Sean McVay is actually
a very personable guy because he goes up and he
takes control, he takes ownership.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
And at this time, Sean McVay was like twenty twenty eight,
twenty seven, I mean he was young.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Room.

Speaker 6 (35:29):
He would control the room like he had that respect
and guys knew like you know, you got certain guys
that come up and it's like, you know, I'm in meetings,
I got to hear another dude talk. But like how
engaged McVeigh was and not only engaged, like he knew
his stuff. X's and o's, the ins and outs of
the plays. It was just like you would have thought
he everything was his philosophy right. So I was like, man,
he's a great coach. He's young, but he knows how

(35:51):
to take ownership. He could take control of the room.
And I think I actually helped him get that job
in LA.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
I heard he interviewed with the Rams and they came
to the conclusion, we can't let him get on a plane.

Speaker 6 (36:01):
When I tell you he's a when I tell you
he's an expert, and I don't like to use this
word geek, but when it comes down to plays and
just how he sets up, like Cooper Cup obviously is
a heck of receiver. He had like two or three
crazy years. But I mean just to see, like guys
asking me because I played with Cooper Cup, they're like, man,
how was Cooper Cup getting open this wide open?

Speaker 3 (36:20):
I'm like, for one, he can run routes.

Speaker 6 (36:22):
For two, he's very smart, and for three, Sean McVay,
the way he played calls and the way he schemes for.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
That they're never wrong.

Speaker 6 (36:27):
And then not only that, you got Matthew Stafford he's
a creature out the world as well too. I think
he doesn't get too much credit he deserves.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
Man, he's a he's a.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Baller by the way, Pooka Nakua out of nowhere.

Speaker 6 (36:37):
And I went to training camp last year and McVeigh
with him, McVeigh and yards wide receiver coach. They were
sitting there was like, d Jack, D Jack, look what
I got. Because I was out there, I was gonna,
I was gonna coach. But I was like, man, when
I seen him hours and stand up, my knees start hurting.
I said, hey, man, I can't coach. I said, man,
I can't do this. So I went out there for
a few days, but I swear every day they kept
telling me, look at that guy Pooka, Look at that

(36:57):
guy Pooker.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
So I'm seeing him like, yeah, I'll see.

Speaker 6 (37:01):
A little something, but I'm not that fast. I ain't
expect to see what I what I just seen this
past year.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Watched him at b YU in Washington, and I'm like,
I don't think he can separate man a. He's physical,
be the whole league plays zone. So he's a smart
kid who understands how any first. Another thing is he
always breaks the first tackle.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
No, definitely Cooper like that. Cooper's like that as well too.

Speaker 6 (37:21):
So I mean that that team man in there with
Matthew Stafford and then my young boy over there too
to out Will.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
I think you know he'll have a great year this
year too.

Speaker 6 (37:28):
But uh, you know it's it's crazy, man, just sitting
back and seeing how the league is advanced. Man, it's
the offensive league now, you got you know what McDaniel's
doing over there with uh, with Tyreek and Jalen Waddow. Man,
I mean, I'm here to love it. Like you know,
you get a lot of older guys to retire and
they kind of hate on the young guys. I mean,
I'm here for the guy, the money they're making, and
how the leagues turn into an offensive game, and I'm

(37:49):
here for I love it. Man.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
I think I can still play too, car. I don't
know what you think.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
I think the Rams can I be a Wiper number two?

Speaker 3 (37:55):
And uh, what were just saying Dallas? You think Dallas
I could be two?

Speaker 5 (38:01):
Right?

Speaker 3 (38:02):
I don't know. I think Jerry Jones need to you
need to give me a call, man. I'm still It's safe.
I'm money like one eighty five.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
You still work out.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
I still work out.

Speaker 6 (38:09):
This is the most out of every you know, all
these years I try to gain aware I can never
gain weight now and it took two years off.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
I got a little belly over here.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Hey man, what a pleasure to see you again. You're
always welcome on our show. Unbelievable career. And I met
Deshaun years ago at an event and you're just light
the room up.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
He was partying, he was having a good time, and
I had to come out there and get some cheers.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Man.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
I I try to avoid a bad time.

Speaker 6 (38:35):
Hey man, congrats. So all this is says you're doing
too Man, You're killing and you're out. You're doing your
