for us over a decade ago, and that's actually her
(01:49):
because she would say Valentine's with a bee poppy every
time over.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
A decade ago. Like way over it.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
I'm trying to at you. She's like seventy years ago.
She's a gram on now she's.

remind everybody before we dive into this to stop at
the gas station on your way home. Make sure you
buy flowers. Guys, bring the romance. That's what women want
gas station presence today. Remember they want the Russell Stovers
(02:28):
and the gas station flower. Yeah, the cheap little bouquet
because you are a dummy and forgot. And that's just
one tip of the day. We got plenty as the
day goes on. So let's get into it. We're gonna
talk some Valentine's Day right, like do you have to
go out tonight?
Speaker 4 (02:42):
How do you make it romantic? How do you.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Balance sports in love. We'll get to all of this,
I'll say, ripping, ripping, like Mark in front of your girl, Britta. Well,
there's a story about Jason Kelce. We're gonna get to.
We're gonna talk some baseball. Right around the corner, we'll
be diving into the baseball season, so a lot on
the way. We'll be diving head first, like Jim Edmonds.
Bro let's go. So I want to start off by
(03:08):
saying last night, Thursday Night, Thursday, the new Friday Night.
Heading into Valentine's weekend. It was also Gallantine's Day, right,
that's the trend. Happy Gallantine's Day. So the ladies went
out and partied and they're like, f the guys, guy.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
They're stupid. Is that what Galentine's Day?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Answer?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
So I figured you and I could brow it up,
have a Brolintine's Day maybe on Sunday or something.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
What do you think that sounds fantastic?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
No, But so last night I was bringing the romance
and I was saying hey to my girlfriend. I was like,
why don't we watch something romantic. She's like like, what,
like like Cobra Kai Perfect, Yeah, Cobra Kai's back. So yeah,
there it is, sexy Ryan. The greatest song that ever was.
(03:54):
You know, the song was supposed to be fun Fact
in Rocky three two. I think I believe three really
well one.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Of the Rockies.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Yeah, yeah, Rocky three for sure. I'm I'm for a fact,
I know because it lines up. It was supposed to
be the one with mister t clubber Lang and they
ended up going with Aya the Tiger and they passed
us along to Karate Kid. I thought the history repeats itself.
Part was the fact that he fought Apollo again. He
(04:25):
fought clubber Lang twice. Ah, it's do the math. Rocky
one with seventy six, Rocky two was seventy nine, Rocky
three was early to mid eighties like Karate Kid, you know,
and I think that would have added a lot. But
it added a lot to one of our favorites, nineteen
eighty five or eighty four eighty five classic the Karate Kids.
(04:45):
So if you guys don't know, they turned that into
a major well YouTube bread at the time, then Netflix
show right, and eight four eighty four we were sliding
around in our socks to crane kicks in the kitchen.
Karate Kid. Impactful moment for a lot of our childhood, right.
(05:10):
Who would have thought I'd turn out to be an
All Valley champion myself out here in California.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
When I moved out here, I thought karate would be
a way bigger deal. So we're actually live.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Exactly from where this show is supposed to take place, Yeah,
no doubt.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Now I'm watching last night.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
It's the final season, is the final five six episodes
of the final season, like Part two of the Final season,
So it's wrapping up. All the episodes were released last night,
and a few observations. It is really cool to see
them cruising around the streets of la right where we work.
In fact, they pass Fox Sports Radio. They pass it,
(05:45):
and I got a little tingle in my broadcasting dingle.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I was like, Oh, that's right where we work. That's
so cool.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
And all the places that we go and we frequent,
it's all there in the show, so it hits us
a little stronger. But I'm watching, I'm getting fired up
about to Seakai to Kai and Tory Nichols. I'm a
big fan of Peyton List, Tory Nichols and all the
characters and Miguel and I like the show. I like
Johnny Lawrence. I'm Eagle Fang all the way, I'm Cobra
(06:14):
Kai never dies. My question for you, And by the way, Rich, Yeah,
there's some cameos.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
That you're gonna be so jealous of. In the final season.
There's some cameos word up.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Some broadcasters that we know personally are in it.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
You know, when Jim Lampley shows up in a Rocky
movie or hey, like.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Hey, that's that's the guy, that's that's the classy James
Lennon Junior. If you tell me like Jonas or like
Ben Maller is in, uh, you know, I take kid. Now,
I'm already jealous of Dan Patrick's gonna be in the
new Happy Gilmoy. Well, you're gonna be jealous, but you're
gonna be happy for the guy. There's a few special
surprises in the last few episodes. Can't give it away
(06:57):
yet again. It just came out last night. I got
one more episode left, so I don't even know where
it goes. All I have to say is this, here's
my observations. The first two of the new slew of
episodes were really slow and kind of whack. But then
it kicks in high gear and I heard it ends tremendously,
(07:19):
so it really kicks in nice okay, And I know
it's a goofy show, trust me. I just find it entertaining.
So we're finding things to watch it. And then we
said couple Kai's out. Love is Blind the dumb reality
show to watch with you know, the WiFi, And you
got to sit through too of build up about the
Kai to Kai, this big karate tournament, and then it
(07:39):
really kicks in. And now I'm like ooh edge of
my seat. But the question here Fox Sports Radio Nation,
yeap of all the sports movies we grew up watching,
Flash It Back on a Friday, Balance Time, Spumpy, of
all the sports movies, you know. Oddly enough, when people
talk about their favorite sports movies, they forget to incorporate
(08:01):
karate because you'll hear people be.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Like, oh, yeah, who's yours? Rocky, you know, Field the Dreams.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
No one ever says Karate Kid because in their mind
they're like, well, is it a sports movie?
Speaker 4 (08:11):
It's Karate's a sport, right, I.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Love it was our version of Rocky, you know, and
karate was a big thing at least in my life
as a kid. I wanted to be a little karate master.
Taekwon do kid is what I was. So yeah, it's
very much a sports movie martial arts movie, but I
put it in that genre of movies for sure. Of
(08:33):
all the sports movies we grew up with, think about them,
the ones we grew up with eighties nineties. If you're older,
that's fine too, I'm here to say, and you can
debate it all you want. We could chop it up.
You can get involved. Eight seven seven ninety nine O
one Fox. Actually the number is different, right, well not,
of course, we're filling in for Colin. I think the
number is. I don't know, they'll be five here. Well,
(08:56):
I have a piece of paper that says it, eight
seven seven for the you're ron Bergende, dude, if I
put a whatever you put down, thanks for you read
you'd read so so eight seven seven for the Herd.
Thanks for making yourself useful, buddy. Oh yeah, you got
a pal. Rich just shows up in his hustle sweatshirt.
(09:16):
So on all the movies we grew up watching, I'm
here to say that I think, in fact, I feel,
in my code of son on this Valentine's Day, my
heart of hearts that it's the number one sports movie
that fired us up the most as kids, Meaning when
(09:39):
you watched it, you wanted to do karate, You're doing
crane kicks, you're doing kung fu and karate moves, jumping
off the couch. Which one fired you up the most,
the most motivating as a kid. For me, I think
the answer is clearly Karate Kid number one, based on
(09:59):
co more than like the Rocky movies as a kid, yeah,
because I was like I could do that. Any think
I was gonna jump in a ring and fight Apollo Creed.
You know, I was like, oh, I could be an
All Valley karate champion. Well, when the show Copra Kaie
did kick off on up for Karate Class, I didn't
think I was gonna go in there and be the
next the next uh Spider Rico. When absolutely when Copra
(10:23):
Kaide did kickoff on Netflix and was at a tight
couple of years back, they did say around the country
karate sign ups for kids were high. Without a doubt.
I to karate as a kid, But as far as motivational,
I mean, I know, I know, I know. You the
one that fired you up the most. You put it
on VHS. You were, you know, practicing moves on your siblings.
(10:46):
You thought that you could be that kid. And by
the way, Daniel LaRussa for me, I was born in Nork,
New Jersey. I'm from Union, like I said, but he
was from Nork in the movie and he moved to
La much like your boy you're looking at right now.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
You just you have a personal connection to the story.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
You're like, hey, I think if you're talking about movies
that fired you up as a kid, I know you're saying, well,
karate was attainable because you could just join a karate class.
Rocky four by far because every kid had the soundtrack.
Even if you were a little kid you were doing
fake workouts in your house. When you maybe you know,
were a teenager, you had the Rocky four soundtrack on
your walkman, I mean, how could I say it that's
(11:23):
a bad answer. Rocky four is the number one answer.
I mean, see Drago kills Apollo. You know, Rocky grows
a beard and he's living in Russia for a month
or so without Adriy, and I mean that to me
is the ultimate motivating when he climbs and he jogs
up the mountain. D come on, that's number one, yo.
I'm not gonna say it's a bad answer. I love that,
(11:44):
But I still believe I thought about this. I didn't
just you know, say it because I watched Cobra Kai
last night. I was thinking about it. I'm like, you know,
of all the movies that fired me up most as
a kid, it was Karate Kid. It was because it
was the kid version of Rocky. That's really what it was,
and we're not making that up. That's why the soundtrack
(12:04):
was similar that's why that song was originally meant for Rocky.
I have an answer. I have an answer that was
impactful in the dumbest way. It's not Rocky. It's another
stallone movie. Well, you know, yesterday was the anniversary of
Over the Top. Did you see that? Well, you took
the words right out of my mouth there, meat lofit.
Did you know that I did not. It came out
(12:25):
thirty eight years ago this weekend, well yesterday, to be exactly,
if you're telling me, if you were a kid of
the eighties or nineties, if you didn't at one point
turn your hat around and arm wrestle one of your
buddies and try to do that.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
You move your hand around like still one.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Yeah, but that didn't get me all motivated as a kid,
like again, where you just lose it and you're on
the bed jumping around doing crane kicks. No way you
know for that is maybe a certain wrestling match you
may have seen, a certain wrestle mania. Rocky is definitely
a top three answer Rocky four. You said specifically, I
agree with you. But as far as sports movies that
(13:03):
really motivated you, like maybe it was a baseball movie,
maybe it was Major League.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Maybe it was sand.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Lot or something like that, but no, I know, I'm sorry,
I'm sorry, I gotta be Karate Kids, you know motivated
me the most, Eastbounded down. Kenny Powers taught me to
never give up on my dreams that congress, and he
told me about the importance of fing you were a
kid in the twenty teens congression, I'm saying, like, you know,
you know, I love to be motivated as an adult.
I love Kenny Powers made you realize that, uh, never
(13:31):
give up on your big league dreams. And again the
importance of having a good friend like Stevie. So I
know you think back and you think of Karate Kid
as some sort of cheesy eighties movie, right, But I'm
here to remind you, based on the popularity and finality
of Cobra Kai, that I think is the sports movie
(13:51):
that fired us up the most as kids. And again,
that's a generational question. So that's my answer. I think
another one to again add to the list or debate me,
or that's again there's really no wrong answers. Oh, I mean,
it's a it's a fun, dumb question, so they can't
be a wrong answer. I think you're not adding something
(14:14):
to this list because it's not a movie that was
on your radar. But even if he didn't play hockey,
the Mighty Ducks and Gordon Bombay taking these misfit kids,
you could say, well, then the Bare News Bears then too.
But to me, Mighty Ducks is on this list. As
far as that got you all motivated, Oh look at
these little dopey kids all working together, they could win.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Mighty Ducks is on this list. See these movies are great.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
And you mentioned The Bad News Bears right, shout out
to coach, Buttermaker, shout out to all the characters from
that movie. There was no like montage with a dope
ass you're the best around. There was no cool soundtrack
They'll keep you down that compliment. A great sports movie
(15:02):
has a great montage of kick ass and you know,
and songs that you could relate to. That's the only
difference there. Like for me when you said Bad News
Bears in an old seventies movie, which I love, but
it didn't inspire me. It is an inspiring movie that
you could turn it all around and be great and
all that stuff. But again, it had a soundtrack, It
had a song, it had a crane kick. So I'm
(15:24):
sticking with my answer. You could feel free to add
I never saw The Mighty Ducks. I'm sorry to admit,
never watch. I've seen parts of EMRA because I live
in this in this time, but I've never watched it.
I was too a little too old for that. It
was like my little sister's movie, you know what I mean.
Never too old for the Flying V.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Well, and it's not a movie that's not a bedroom
movie that sounds like a bedroomove The Flying V when
it came out in ninety something, I was definitely experimenting
with some other Flying vasis. Relaxing your thoughts at eight
seven seven for The Herd.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
We're gonna get involved again. We love to be interactive.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
But last night I was watching in the final season
of Cobra Kai Never Dies. I haven't watched a final
episode yet, but there's a great build up. There's some
fun cameos, and it dawned on me flashing it back
on a Friday that the reason I love this so
much is because of the nostalgia. Hands down when I
think about it, hands down when I think about the
(17:22):
movie that fired me up, the sports movie that fired
me up the most as a kid, motivated me, got
me excited. It's Karate Kid and it still holds up.
I don't know if it's in my top five. I
love the movie. I love the show. But as far
as sports movies, it motivated me. I don't know how
about like I said, Mighty Ducks, maybe Rudy, Rudy, well, Rude.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
I'd be stealing everybody's answer. These are all great movies.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Come on, dude, but I'm saying, hands down, this is
the number one for me. Rocky four, just just the soundtrack,
and Russia Dendrago. These are great movies. But Rocky was
a man.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
You'll like you I'm a man.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
You're like, absolutely, it looked like a man to you.
I say absolutely, No, were you a man back in
eighty five when that came out? No, you know, And
that's a great movie, great montages. I get it. Your
calls eight seven seven for the Herd Bill Newport Beach,
you're all a coven on rich In for Colin today.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
What's up, buddy?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (18:20):
How were you good?
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Madamos up? What's you? What's your answer?
Speaker 6 (18:23):
You know I'm in the auto industry.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
I'm calling you from Newport Beach, first time call her?
Great show.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Thanks you guys, thanks you.
Speaker 5 (18:32):
You know. Days of Thunder Uh really kind of set
a spark for me because I worked closely with the
you know, Shelby vehicles and yeah, things with power and
you know the tour versus Ferrari.
Speaker 6 (18:47):
Hey dude from all around?
Speaker 4 (18:48):
Where you from?
Speaker 7 (18:49):
Again?
Speaker 3 (18:49):
He from He's from Newport Beach, Okay, so again nineteen
ninety days of Thunder, Tom Cruise.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Everyone's gonna have their And that's really what it comes
down to. What is it for you? Right, I'm a
kid from Jersey, like car movies, racing was just not
my thing, right, So, but in my heart of hearts,
I still think karate kid is the universal number one response.
It's not a wrong answer, but you could see how
like that wouldn't resonate with me. But he's saying that
(19:19):
motivated him in his world. Oh of course. So like
you know, the military always talks about how the movie
Top Gun the recruitment numbers for young you know, kids
out of high school that wanted to fly planes because
of that movie.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Let's go to Tampa. Guess what, Rich, Guess.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
What, Any kid in any part of the country could
have signed up for karate lessons. That is true. Beat
up the bully? Who was the bully? By the way,
was it Daniel Simon? It's a good question. Really was Matt,
you're on in Tampa. Can you don't richend? For Colin?
Speaker 4 (19:48):
What's up? Hell?
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (19:50):
Great topic, So not saying this is the greatest movie ever,
but one that I related to the I related to
Scott Howard because I was a skinny, short kid like
to play basketball and he talked about a song in
the end. So it was winning the end Scott Howard
and Teen Wolf.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
No, do we all know in the end of Teen
Wolf someone junks everyone? Do we know this the story
of this? Yes, when they scroll through the crowd at
the end of the movie, they never caught it. There's
a guy that pulls his junk out of his fly
and it made the final cut of the movie. So
in case you want to what junk gaze later, just
look at the end of the Team Wolf. Is it true
that your father walked in and he caught you with
that pause on your TV? That's not true, by the way,
(20:31):
It's actually really funny how inaccurate it is. When he's
taking free throws at the end, Remember his nemesis is
like standing right under the basket, like just to look
at him and pause.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
If when you take free throws people stand in front
of you that's.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Not how it works, but a very funny movie which
a lot of people stood.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Don't all on.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
That's what got you, not the whole fact that a
kid turns into a wolf.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Well you know that's a story about puberty, right, A
lot of people don't know that that teen wolf is
really a story about puberty. None necessarily you know the
fact that he was a wolf. But can we no
more confused by the continuity of the free throw than
effect that a kid turned into a wolf?
Speaker 4 (21:06):
Hold up, what's that guy doing? Mean muggin? Scott Howard,
Alex P. Keaton, Michael J. Fox. I love it so again.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
I'm here to say Cobra Kai got me thinking about
Karate Kid. Karate Kid the most inspiring, the movie the
sports movie that got me fired up the most as
a kid with Corey in Alaska cnr in for Colin.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
What's up? Corey?
Speaker 8 (21:28):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (21:28):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Hey buddy? Yes you're on Corey go on?
Speaker 6 (21:34):
Oh sorry? Yeah? So five eleven fifteen, Uh So I
got two things. One Rocky you want to shoot out
or shout out to Rocky Rocky Tom Tom Colton. Three
Ninja's best little martial arts movie ever made?
Speaker 4 (21:47):
Oh it's Valentine's Days. What was that little thing Rocky
Loves Emily? Rocky Loves Emily.
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Yeah, the movie that kind of changed my life. I'm
going in a different direction. Here is a little big league.
I grew up in Minnesota, and this twelve year old
took control of a team, and that got me all
started into fantasy football and everything. So, I mean, I
know it's not exactly the same, but that thing got
me pumped up. I'm like, hey, I get on my
own team too.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
You know.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Cavetos Budd Covino's bummed because when his grandfather died, he
just got a shoehorn, not a baseball team.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
I really I love it.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
I got a pair of his binocular Oh your grandma, dad,
you got a tortilla press. I had looked this up.
Three Ninjas nineteen ninety two. So at this point in
my life, I'm in junior HIGHO. Right, So but I
am inspired now to maybe check it out with my
kid or my nephew or something. I suggest Three Ninja's
Kick Back the sequel. Let's go to Pa Pennsylvania. Steve,
(22:39):
You're have a coveno on Retchfords out buddy, how are you.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
What's up? Man?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
Hey man, I got two movies for you.
Speaker 8 (22:46):
For the football players, i'd say all the.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
Right moves, Okay, For the wrestlers, i'd say Vision.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Quest I all right.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
You know, I'm trying to think back if there's anyone
in any category were missing. And by the way, a
lot of a lot of Tom Cruise Last Tom Cruise
eighty three, all the right movies. I remember watching that
late night on HBO when I was a kid, hoping
for a rated R. Because that's the kind of little
kid I was. Yeah, you remember the HBO do.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Do Do Do Do.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Do Do Do feature presentation? Come on R, come on,
come on movies movies rated R for nudity. Yes, stayed
up late just for that. Yeah, So I remember watching
that back in the day. For sure, a good eighties one.
And again, whatever type of kid you were, like a
little skate kid, I'm sure like Gleaming the Cube or
(23:37):
you know, it depends what you were into.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
But for me, like Karate Kid.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
The story of it just again, I thought of that
as a kid's version of Rocky, But I don't think
of it as a kid's movie. I think that's just
a great movie about the relationship between him and Miagi.
I think it's still great today, but especially as a kid.
Some think that Cobra Kai the series has gone on
two long but you know what, it's still entertaining. Oh
(24:03):
it's so stupid fun. I find the most fun part
about Cobra KaiA on Netflix that you have to check
your brain at the door and pretend like karate in
the Valley is such a big deal that kids are dying,
kids are fighting. There's a scene in one of the
seasons where Daniel LaRussa lives in a beautiful house here
(24:24):
in California and kids are having a karate fight in
his place and they're throwing each other through windows and
the cops are on cult. That's how it is andate life.
It's all about to sakai to kai, this international karate tournament.
And here's the hint I'll give you. Remember I said
some fun cameos of people you know personally, it gets
(24:47):
national TV coverage KaiA. You know what's what's funny? You
got to ask yourself, where do you have to check
your brain at the door. More as far as these shows,
is it the influence of karate in karate kid. Is
there another example where it's like, you just gotta come on,
you just gotta check your brain? I mean yeah, probably
(25:09):
the fact that it's such a big deal. We'll wrap
it up with a few more phone calls because we
got to talk Eagles and their Paris going on. Lot's
going on in the world of sports and football. But again,
sports movies as a kid that fired you up the most. Well,
let's wrap it up with John and Florida. What's up John, John?
(25:30):
Damn you John?
Speaker 4 (25:31):
You there, buddy?
Speaker 8 (25:32):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Oh, what's up? Man? You're on with convened on Rich.
Speaker 6 (25:34):
Hey, Hey, you guys are come on, you guys are
forgetting a good one.
Speaker 8 (25:38):
What do you got forget all these little kid ones, man,
all the right moves.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
You know, it's funny you're the second person that just
said that nineteen eighty three. It's a good one for sure.
And I love all those movies. All these movies were great, right,
these kids movies growing up? Remember The Titans, Little Giants, Miracle,
the Rookie. There's so many sports movies that we loved
as kids growing up. I'm just saying that this is
(26:04):
the number one. When I think about it.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
You bring up.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Remember the Titans. That's a separate category in conversation. That's
sports movies that make you tear up like a little
bee yo. I watch Remember the Titans. That'll get you emotional.
I heard Colin were filling in for him talking about
how Brian song was that for him. Do you ever
watch that back in the day? Yeah, I think I'll
make school. That'll make a shed one Rookie of the Year,
(26:27):
space jam. There's so many great ones. We grew up with.
Angels in the airfield. Rich always talks about, So do
you used to be mel Clark? Answer this question and
we'll move on. What is saying the difference between karate
kid and a Rocky which is an obvious answered, Rocky
absolutely inspiration. What more is that that he was a kid,
(26:50):
he was a high school kid. What's a more unbelievable premise?
I'm gonna leave teen Wolf and air Bud Golden Retriever
out of this Airbudy your mom favorite my Bob blows said,
What's what's the more unbelievable that karate becomes that popular
in California where it's like the main focus of the valley,
or the fact in Mighty Ducks, misfit kids go from
(27:14):
not knowing how to play hockey to playing for the
World championship be year later. I'm gonna go with that
because you downplay the significance and popularity of martial arts.
I don't know, yeah, but you act like there's not
a scene or an importance to martial arts and karate.
I think at every point in every kid's life, there's
(27:36):
a few things that I think are universal. Unless you're
a total weenie, you had the thoughts that you could
be a professional athlete or something, or an astronaut. I
don't know, it depends where your head was at. You
probably thought magic was cool at one point. You're like,
you know what, I'm gonna practice a few magic tricks,
and you thought to yourself, I'm gonna do some karate moves.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Maybe it was wrestling moves, right, but it was. It
was so for me. It's not that far off of
a thought by by watching ate.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
By watching though, I do find it funny though, just
the same way if you watched again Mighty Ducks and
it's like, really, the fact Goldberg goalie kid is is
the best in the world, that's more unbelievable. But then
I say to myself Larussa's daughter and that weird new
with the mohawk. They're gonna beat some of these karate experts.
Like who's that hot hike they brought in? Who's actually
(28:24):
a jiu jitsu expert? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I know
you're talking a bit like she was in the final
She's in the final season.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Hey, thank you for the feedback.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Camino rich In for Colin and by the way, if
you want to still chime in or you're listening to
the podcast in the future again, Covino and Rich just
hit us up on social media at Covino and rich
hashtag Cavino is right, don't I would not fuck you
know what? Hashtag karate kid.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
I'll let you go with that. Uh In for Colin.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
We're doing it live from the tai iraq dot Com
studio and it is time for bo filling in with
the herd Line News.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
This is the herd Line News.
Speaker 9 (29:05):
How's it going with all this?
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Okay man, what's up?
Speaker 9 (29:06):
Bow doing well? Doing well? Happy to be here with
you guys today. We're gonna have stories trickle in as
the Philadelphia Eagles World champions h make their way through
the streets of Philadelphia. We're gonna start here though, with
a big game last night as Juju Watkins of USC
had thirty eight points, eleven rebounds, eight blocks, and five
(29:27):
assists in their seventy one to sixty win over the
number one USA le Bruins.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Damn what was the score again? Seventy one to sixty? Okay,
up and down? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Can I tell you something Not to compare high school
sports to this, but my daughter's a cheerleader here in
the valley here in Los Angeles, right, so she's living
that teenage life. I'm surprised she's not into karate when when,
of course, she's not at all valley tournaments, yep, cheering
for them, dude. The game the other day at her
(30:00):
high school was eighty three to four. Her team lost
eighty three to four. I was like, dude, these kids
even try. What are you cheering hard? You told me
your daughter's high school is academically focused, but I don't
even know who plays on the team.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
You talk about embarrassing. I'm like, you're not cheering good.
I guess.
Speaker 9 (30:18):
I don't know were those four three free throws or
were those just two made baskets?
Speaker 3 (30:22):
They're embarrassing, that's what it is. I don't know, I
don't know how it happened, but eighty three to four.
By the way, Juju Watkins add to the list of
women basketball players that are becoming more household names.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
So great, so great for her.
Speaker 9 (30:34):
Absolutely Colorado wide receiver, defensive back, ever you want to
call it. Heisman winner Travis Hunter. He's going to attend
the NFL Combine next month listed as a defensive back.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
I saw this for his workouts.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
It's interesting, right because we saw Shoheo Tani pitch and
bat last year. Bo your Dodgers didn't seem to need
him on the pitching side of things, and you wonder,
even though he could it. Do you think whatever team
pick Trevis Hunter is going to have him played both
sides of the ball.
Speaker 9 (31:04):
He's going to step in day one as like an
elite defensive, lockdown defensive back. I thought he would go
as a wide receiver just because that's where the money is.
But if he's smart, he'll play dB and step in
for a wide receiver every once in a while.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Let him do it. As Rob Parker. It's great for
the NFL.
Speaker 9 (31:23):
He's a great wide receiver, but he's an insanely good
defensive back. I think he's doing the right thing here
for his career long term.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
You can pull him in for a scheme here there.
I know it's you know, on opposite sides of the ball.
But a couple of years ago, you know, before he
didn't want to be on my forty nine ers anymore. Yeah,
Tebo Samuel was like part wide receiver running back more
than I've ever seen a player split position offense.
Speaker 9 (31:43):
Really made that team work when you think about it.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
And then Prime.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Yeah, remember our old boss Stevie Cohen. Remember what he
used to say, think of the story, you know, think
of the storyline here and how great that would be.
We were talking about inspiring for kids, Inspiring for kids.
They've never seen anything like that before, you know, I've
never seen players go two way this way. I think
it'd be great for the NFL. I think it'd be
(32:07):
great to let him try it here and there. You
know I wouldn't stop him from doing it.
Speaker 9 (32:12):
No, Yeah, last one here, long brewing story kind of
from Super Bowl Sunday. I don't know if you guys
saw Chauncey Gardner, Johnson and Travis Kelsey had a bit
of a on field tiff, and then Swifties have now
review bombed CJ's mom's press Trump's Yeah, it's really weird
because he he posted something on Instagram about Taylor sof well,
(32:34):
CJ's attire today at the Super Bowl parade. You guys
are gonna have to google it and look it up.
He's wearing a hoodie that is a direct shot at
Taylor Swift.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
And her fans.
Speaker 9 (32:43):
And when you know who he is as a player
and a person, you're not gonna be surprised when you
do see it. I can't really say it on the air,
but yeah, he's a he is continuing to stoke the
flame here right now.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Man, he's a bunch of little white girls.
Speaker 9 (32:59):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Licks mine. Oh can't read it?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Yea. All right, Hey, you know, thank you, Bo. That's
your herdline news. All right, Covino on rich In for
Colin on the Herd. Now coming up, there's a lot
to get to Cavino. Baseball right around the corner. We're
talking football ends. Where's your focus. Of course, we go NBA,
we go baseball, and the off season in the NFL
(33:25):
just as exciting. So we're going to talk to Aaron
Rodgers later, there's a Jason Kelsey story that I find hilarious.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
It has to do with Valentine's Day. Happy Valenti's puppy.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
And we will talk a little baseball next because I
feel like a guy on your team, the Yankees. Devin
Williams is being cramped like none other. We'll get to
that next. Doing it live from the Tirack dot Com

Happy Valentine's Day and by the way, happy three day weekend.
I just realized that. Thank you to Abe Lincoln in
his top hat and beard and George Washington And you
(35:14):
mean you just thought that?
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Why do you think I'm wearing his top hat today? Sorry?
Celebrating the weekend.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Shout out to all forty five of our presidents in
US history. Really, you're shouting them out like they're listening. Yeah, I'
shouting them out. Y know what's up Chester, Ray Arthur.
If you want a real shout out, hit us up
at Covino and Rich, Joe, President Taft. And by the way,
Ryan's ring only forty four of them. Man, so again
forty five forty forty five. Oh oh, Ryan doesn't acknowledge one. Yeah,
(35:43):
that's what Sorry, so he cut went out. Anyway, Thank
you guys for hanging out with us. Covino and Rich
reminding you that Cobra Kaind never dies and happy Bo
that times bop By. Think about it, Covino, There's there's
been forty This is the forty seventh president, President Trump,
but there's been forty five men. So you know what
happened with Trump is with Billy Martin in the eighties
for the Yankees, like got fired, came back, did it again?
(36:04):
Kind of like the Yankees with Loup Penela and Billy
Martin our whole childhood. Speaking of the Yankees again, let's
get involved. Fox Sports Radio Nation Covino and Rich and
for Colin on the Herd eight seven seven for the herd.
That's the number eight seven seven for the herd. At
Covino and Rich at Steve Cavino, at Rich Davis. Now
I Steve Covino a lobri maswample, Doctor Love. Can I
(36:29):
steal Mike's nickname? Mike runs this place, so doctor love Mike.
So as the resident Yankees fan, I'm a Yankees fan.
Rich is a Mets guy. I gotta tell you, I
think change starts with one person. I've always been the
guy that was okay with the Yankees traditions, pinstripe, Pride,
(36:50):
legendary franchise, no name on the back. Of course, I
like tradition, but as you've said, sometimes tradition is making
the same mistake over and over. Sometimes you force that
eye rolly tradition where Yankee fans say things like they
got to earn their pinstripes, like God, could I roll
my eyes more? And just something as simple as the
(37:11):
Yankees don't have a city connect Jersey because they don't
need an alternate Jersey. Rub me the wrong way a
little bit. I want to be rubbed the right way
on this Valentine's Day like Johnny gil And when they
said no to the connect Jerseys. I was like, that's
kind of lame. Like we have a little fun. It's baseball.
(37:31):
It's a game. It's supposed to be kind of fun.
But there is a sense of professionalism I think you
need to have in sports and in life.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
Not everything's a free for all.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Yeah, but you're the first person to say, you know,
here's a bunch of dudes in suit and ties talking
about sports. Meanwhile the fans are wearing beer helmets, jerseys
and hoodies and with face paint. It's sports, dude. At
the end of the day, it's sports. So when the
Yankees are a little too traditional, I think we live
in a day and age now where it's going to
start to backfire and exhibit A is your dude, Yes,
(38:00):
Devin Williams. If change starts with one guy, believe it
or not, I think it's this guy. It wasn't the
GMBO who had to cut his mullet, it wasn't Johnny
Damon who had a shave his caveman beard.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
It's this guy.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Because it's twenty twenty five, it's a different time, it's
a different place, and there's a different set of players
out there. I think for you to have this shaving rule.
You have to shave your face. This grooming rule that's
been around forever with the Yankees since steortze Steinbrenner is
so outdated at this particular point. Let's say you draft
(38:40):
this young hotshot Dominican kid and he has a sweet
shape up, but he's neatly groomed, but he's really shaped
up and he has a cool look about it. Oh no,
no shaven. You're on the Yankees. Tell same slick fielding,
shaped up, sweet faded Dominican kid that he has to
shave his precision be because it's a stupid rule. And
(39:02):
that's kind of what's going on with Devin Williams here.
So Devin Williams, they said, hey, look you're a Yankee now,
but you gotta shave that beard. And he has a good,
lengthy beard and they said, well was the last time
he shaved it? And he's like, oh man, I haven't
shaved in it forever. He shows up pictures and Catchers
(39:22):
this week fully shaved, and he looks like a little
baby boy. He looks at the alien from Mac and Me.
He looks like a little baby chirrup. On Valentine's Day
and You're like, what is that? That's not the intimidation
factor that you want. Closing out the game for the
New York Yangy, Devin Williams went from looking like a
badass slick closer to a little baby boy. Let me
(39:43):
ask you, Sexy Ryan run the board today. When was
the last time you shaved your beard? You're rocking this
the facial hair.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
I was in my twenties.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
My first one of my first big time jobs out
of college was at Enterprise rentor card and can't have
facial hair, so rent the car. I get, it makes
total sense. But so you haven't shaved in easily a decade?
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Oh easily? Yeah? So boos Bo produced today and facial hair.
When was the last time you clean shaved with a razor?
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (40:10):
Back when I worked with the Dodgers. I worked at
Dodger Stadi. He can't have facial hair then, So I
was like ten years ago.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Cavino, I can't tie. The last time I took a
razor to my face was easily a decade. And I
feel like Cavino, you dabbled a little bit a couple
of years ago. But most men nowadays, most grown ass
men have some type of stubble beard, go tea mustache.
I think this Yankees rule is dating is just unnecessary.
(40:38):
I don't think it has anything to do with professionalism.
Here's why I think Devin Williams is the key here. Again,
he's not the first guy that was forced to shave, right,
but he's a closer and the closer position comes with
that intimidation factor. I said before, and he has stated
that he loses confidence without the facial hair. And that
(40:59):
may sound eddie and lame and silly, but think about it.
If you're not feeling your best and most confident, that's
the guy you want out there.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
And when you're investing eight point six.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
Million dollars in a player a year to play at
his best and most confident and his most intimidating, why
would you want to force this guy to shave. So
I do believe that there's a compromise. I do believe
that people need to speak up and make this happen.
And the compromise is, hey, man, you just can't look
like a hobo out there. You can't look like the
four Red Sox. Oh four Red Sox. Kevin Mallaran is
(41:29):
hobo beard. But I think there's something to be said.
There's something to be said about feeling confident, because I
know this guy's listening right now, being like, really, could
you know? Really rich? Like you think the beard and
facial hair matters. But you know what, if I ask
you right now, you're a single guy, you want to
go out on a date. You finally got that girl
to hang out with you that you're been eyeing up.
(41:49):
You want to feel your best when you go to work,
when you're on a date, when you're anywhere, don't you
want to feel your coolest, your best, And when you
see and as an opposing player, when you see Devin
Williams on the mound without that beard, he lost like
three inches of his face, he looks so like non intimidating.
(42:11):
I think that gives an edge to the batter. So
I feel like it's really counterproductive for the Yankees to
keep implementing this silly rule at this stage of life,
stage of the game. For years, I was like, no, man,
rules of rules, you live by it. Now I believe
we're at a compromise. Who is the Yankee that is
a free agent now hasn't signed anywhere yet, but he
commented about how he's excited to be himself again.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
Oh, Alex Verdugo.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Verdugo said, oh sweet, And now I could grow facial
hair again. I could, you know, wear jewelry. It's it's
a big deal. So we'll take your feedback. Next right here,
cn R in for Colin
