You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Our number two here on The Herd.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Jason McIntyre in for Colin Cowherd on a Lovely Wednesday,
got Eddie House NBA champ. He challenged me to a
three point shooting contest during the commercial ring.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
I declined, just with the record, I declined, Alex.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
I was like, why edd House when he was dropping
sixty one at Arizona's Okay, why did you decline?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Well, he put a big.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Money to the challenge, he put, Okay, I.
Speaker 6 (00:51):
Thought you were a betting man, and.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
You like I love to gamble, and I love to
gamble on myself exactly, but not a guesst an NBA him.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
That's all. I'll leave it at that.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
But by the way, I'm trying to get any house
to come out here to La and we'll get in
a pickup game with Paul Pierson off the court because
Paul Pierce loves it.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
A little talk.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Guy Final Hour, Will Blackman, former Cowboys coach.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Can we call him that? I don't know, But.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
First I want to get started here. I looked at
the NFL over unders. Okay, Cowherd did his last week,
and I've identified four opportunities to bet on for the
upcoming season. Now we'll have someone come on Final Hour
and dispute my picks. He's he's a really sharp better.
But let me get started with four NFL over unders.
I absolutely love. Let's get started. Are you ready for this?
(01:42):
Michael Pennix and the Atlanta Falcons. I really like them
this year. I know everybody loves Tampa Bay and everybody
thinks of Tampa Bay's the team. Keep an eye on
the Atlanta Falcons over seven and a half wins. Pennix
not only was he with the team last year, but
a full off season. They've got the good run game
with Jean Robinson. I think they'll probably get him another.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Weapon in the draft.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Pits is sticking around at tight end and I looked
at the schedule. Guys, they play the NFC West and
the AFC East, right, and you're like, oh, that's not
that easy. Well, then you drill down a little further.
There's only two potential cold weather games for the Dome
Falcons at the Jets at the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Also, those teams are not good.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Everything kind of sort of lines up on the road
outside the division. They have to play one team that
had a winning record, and that was the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Their road games are easy. There's a world now.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I know.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
We were a little early last year.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
On the Falcons were like, oh, he's a twelve win team.
Didn't quite happen. There was the Cousins regression. Pennix didn't
take over till it was too late.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
The Falcons nearly made the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Remember that game against Washington late in the season they
needed it didn't quite happen. So I'm on the Falcons
over seven and a half wins. Next up and under,
Detroit Lions. I'm so sorry. I got some buddies who
are Lions fans. They were loving last year's ride. Jared
Goff lives kind of sort of near me. I saw
him on the beach with his wife recently. We had
the exact same dog.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I like baff. I told him to call on the show.
He knows Coward's a fan. It doesn't look great for
multiple reasons.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Number one, Aaron Glenn defensive coordinator, was phenomenal, and they
didn't have a ton of defensive talent outside of Hutch
and the young safety from Alabama.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Then they lose Ben Johnson.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
I know we love Dan Campbell, but guys Ben Johnson
was really the brains behind that offense.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
And I think there will clearly be a step back.
Everybody would agree with that, but then it's how far
is the step back?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
And again, this is unbelievable, but if you look at
their schedule, it is definitely going to be one of
the four or five toughest schedules in the league. These
are their non division road games, and there's a similarity
between all these teams. The Lions play at Washington, at Philly,
(03:57):
at sid Cy, at Baltimore, at case at the Rams.
What do all those teams have in common? They all
had winning.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Records last year. I'm just telling you that's an absolute gauntlet.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Now Washington will be outdoors, Philly is outdoors since he's outdoors,
Baltimore's outdoors, Casey. Last year I think the Lions had
one or two outdoor games maybe all season. If these
fall in November December, We'll see how it goes for
the Lions. But I'm taking the under ten and a
half for Detroit. Next up Seattle Seahawks. Going under on
(04:28):
the Seahawks as well. Just couldn't go over to my
face a lot of time I'm waiting against the Seahawks,
I had to shave the insignia in the side of
my head.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Won't be doing that again, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
I just.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Too much loss on the offensive side of the ball.
Gino Smith, Lockett Metcalp.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I just think that's going.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
To be very difficult to overcome all the newness you
got Sam Darnold. We'll see Cooper Cup happy for him.
We'll see I don't love this Sea Off team. I
don't think the coach is a problem. I like him
a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
They'll be compared.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I just don't see seven or eight. I don't see
eight wins. So I went to under seven and a
half and the final one. And I apologize to all
my people in DC.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Because I got a lot of friends. Eric kind of
grew up in that area.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I'm going under on the Commanders, under on the Washington
Commanders nine and a half wins. I know, they blew
away everybody. Oh my gosh, how good was there? It
went to the NFC Championship. How are they gonna regress?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Well, do you guys.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Remember the Houston Texans first year shock? Everybody was stroud
make a playoff run.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
They were the most I think one of the most
popular AFC Super Bowl picks.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
This past season, they regressed.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
You get a year on tape on the rookie quarterbacks,
there's the sophomore slum. I think those things are real.
I mean, some of these things are kind of real.
Like the team that loses the Super Bowl usually doesn't
get back to the playoffs or the super Bowl. That's
like a real thing. I don't know how that works,
but it always seems to happen. I see a little
regression from Daniels. I think they won like three games
at the Buzzer. They had a.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Very fortunate charm run last year.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
They're gonna be good, but under nine and a half
on the Commanders pick those apart. Please, all right, let's
welcome in my main man. Eddie House, Fox Sports NBA
analyst is a Celtics TV analyst as well.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Eddie how's life, my man?
Speaker 7 (06:21):
It's good a man. Don't don't forget the Emmy Award
winner as well. Man, you gotta throw that in there too.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Eddie House Award winner. So I gotta ask you, man.
You know, I'm a Knicks guy. I love their moves
this past offseason. Why can't they beat any of the
good teams? Bro Oh, geez, Eddie.
Speaker 8 (06:43):
The Nicks stink. No, they don't stink. I'm not.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
I'm not gonna say that, but I just don't think
they're deep enough, you know. That's that's the problem. When
you look at who they play against, the really, really
good teams, the upper echelons of the NBA, they're just
not deep enough. Like last night was a perfect example
of it. They leaned heavily on two guys. Kar Anthony
(07:07):
Towns came out on fire in the first half. He
played well. Jalen Brunton there trying to put the ball
in his hands and he's very capable.
Speaker 8 (07:15):
But when you start looking at their bench and their.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Rotation and the way that Timbs plays, his rotation doesn't
allow for that rotational group to get any kind of
steady or good feeling about themselves. And so I think
that that's the reason why the Knicks uh won't won't
really go that far. And I thought last night, see,
that's a hack right there. They were hacking last night,
(07:38):
and the reps allowed them to do that. And I
like the fact that we were able to play through
it and still find a way to get a W.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
I like, Kerry Tooss, is the we in there? Let
me let me ask you, like, I should.
Speaker 7 (07:49):
Have put my rings on so you could I should
have put my rings on so you can see why
I say.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
We we're good. Let me ask, is Tibodeau in trouble?
I think they could run him off and bring him money.
Speaker 7 (07:59):
Alan, That's a possibility, especially because I think you got
us Knicks fans right, you guys. You guys think that
he runs the guys into the ground, right like there.
Speaker 8 (08:12):
Is no rotation.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
It's a short rotation and then it gets shorter when
it goes to the playoffs, and so.
Speaker 8 (08:19):
That that could be in question.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
You know that that could definitely be something that could
possibly happen. I don't like how the Denver Nuggets handled that,
but I'm not running the different Nuggets and I'm not
part of that that team or anything like that. But
Mike Bolone has done nothing but win. He's the winning
his coach in Denver Nugget history. They went to the
championship and to fire a guy like right now when
(08:42):
you're fourth and you could end up being in the
play in because the way that the West is right now,
but the way that it happened, you know, that's that
that that that that that reeks of something going on
within that locker room that they just didn't like him
or they didn't like his voice started to be redundant,
(09:03):
and they just were like, we don't want to hear
this no more because you know they ran that by
joe Yoker. Well you know, I mean they ran that
by Joe you.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Know they did not, But I mean it's right, like,
do you think the Lakers ran the Luca trade by Lebron.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
Well, I mean Luca got traded for Anthony Davis. Anthony
Davis is represented by Rich Paul. I think that that
had to be in some kind of discussion. There are
you and everybody's just keeping quiet.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
You should ask your superstar, Hey, what do you think
of this move?
Speaker 7 (09:35):
Well, if you were, if you're in good standing with
that coach, unless the superstar comes up and say, hey.
Speaker 8 (09:40):
Man, we got to get rid of him, you know,
and if.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
He comes down, if they come down and run it
and ask say hey, because we've seen this before where
a superstar has ran a coach out of a job.
You know what, Mike Brown, I would say that that's
one of one of them.
Speaker 8 (09:56):
You know, that's the most recent one that I could
look at.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
But also we could look at James running David Black
out of town right after you win the finals. And
so there's no way that they don't run that by
Yo Kic and or Gordon or Jamal Murray. And the
thing was, none of them said no, we want to
keep him. This is our guy. They're looking forward to
(10:19):
the Adamman. They probably feel more comfortable with him. He
probably relates better with them because they're younger. And the
other thing is this is that Adamman, if he's anything
like his dad, I played with him and Sacramento, he'll
turn out.
Speaker 8 (10:35):
He'll turn out to be a really good coach.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Do you think there's any world where Yokic gets traded
or ask for a trade.
Speaker 7 (10:43):
Well, he could always ask for a trade, But I
don't think if I was a Denver Nuggets, I would
never trade that. I mean, you have the best player
in the world, you know what I mean, So there's
no way that I would ever trade that. You always
want to have the best player because if he gets
to a game seven, you could trust that best player
is gonna show up.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yeah, all right, let's go to the Lakers, everybody's favorite
team to hate. I'm sure you have some deep thoughts
on Luka Doncic who likes to complain, and Eddie you
were a bit of a yapper if memory.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
But what do you make of all this Luca controversy
the ejection linestime?
Speaker 3 (11:15):
You have to admit that was kind of bogus.
Speaker 8 (11:17):
Right, yes, bogus, But that was his reputation, you know.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
I mean, he has a reputation of complaining to the refs,
He has a reputation of.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
Talking to people in the stands.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
And he even said it himself, he said, if they're
gonna talk on a talk back, ain't nothing wrong with that.
But once you have a technical, once you get one technical,
when you have to be careful on how you move
forward for the rest of the game because you can't
cost your team. They were making a great run. They
were looking like they were gonna maybe win this basketball game.
And once he went out, and it's not just because
he went out, because they still had Lebron out there,
(11:48):
they still had Austin Reeves out there. They got rebounded,
they got points in the paint, they got killed on,
they turned the ball over nineteen times and gave up
I want to say it was a twenty nine points
off of nineteen turnovers. So they had some problems after that,
you know what I mean That that you could look
at and say, hey, man, you know they could have
(12:09):
been better, but they're definitely a better team with Luca
on the floor, then they're not. And it's his reputation,
you know what I mean. It's his reputation. So he's
gonna have to figure that part out.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
You can't eject guys in a one point game in
the fourth quarter on reputation.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Dy, come on, that's wrong.
Speaker 7 (12:25):
Yeah, you know, because if if you think that I'm
talking to you, right, if you believe that I'm talking
to you, You're gonna feel like you talking like like
I'm talking to you, Like man, damn, we got a problem.
And then I say something, But I was like, no,
I was talking to the dude behind you over there.
Speaker 8 (12:41):
Five rolls back.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
In this like no, you could see the guy that
he's wearing a number eight jersey in the corner.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
So I okay, So I did that on the referee
to be like turn around at at least see He
wanted to hear none of it. He instantly said you're out.
Speaker 7 (12:54):
You said time out, you said turn around and look
in the crowd. That's what the referee is supposed to do.
Referee is officiating a basketball game. What his job is
is to watch what's happening on the floor, not to
be looking at what's happening in the crowd, you know
what I mean. So we can't blame that on the
ref We just blamed that on the reputation that Luca has.
Do I think that that was a cool u uh
(13:17):
you know ejection?
Speaker 9 (13:18):
No, I don't. I don't.
Speaker 8 (13:18):
I don't feel that it was warranted, but just because
of his.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Reputation, these are the type of things that happen. Think
about Russie Wallace. Russie Wallace could throw his hand in
the air like this, he get a technical foul.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
That's not a bad comparison.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
But let me ask, so we now saw two games
with Luca and Lebron against the Thunder and the Lakers
dismembered them Sunday by a billion, and then last night
it was toe to toe in the fourth quarter in
okc Eddie Lakers in Thunder in the seven game series.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
Who you got, man, that's a tough one right there.
I was talking about that earlier today went out, think
about it. It's gonna go. It will go seven games.
To me, it will be a seven game series. And
it's just about who's gonna be able to get to
stop Who's other guys. It's not about the star players
(14:11):
because I think Jaalen Williams and uh Shay they gonna
get they money. I think Luca and Lebron gonna get
they money. Now who are the other guys that are
gonna be able to step up? When you walk into
a locker room and is the cameras are different, you
know what I mean? Like the energy in the building
as soon as you come into the building off the bus,
(14:35):
everything is different.
Speaker 8 (14:36):
Who's gonna shrink.
Speaker 7 (14:37):
In that moment and who is relation in that moment
and who wants to thrive in that moment.
Speaker 8 (14:41):
It's gonna come down to that.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
So I think it'll be a seven game series, and
which I mean, I feel like it's a coin flip.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
So you know, Eddie, I I kind of tried to
make the case that the NBA loves villains and the
Curry KD Warriors or villains. Everybody hated them because Restacked.
Everybody hated Lebron and Wade because they were the heatles.
I think Luca and Lebron are kind of on that
level when it comes to hate. People don't hate your Celtics.
People don't hate the Thunder or the Caves. They're not
(15:13):
actively rooting against them. I feel like right now the
vibe and energy is man Luca and Lebron. There's some
whiny complainers. I'm rooting against them.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Would you would you agree with that?
Speaker 7 (15:24):
Well, if if that's how somebody feels, you know that's
how they feel. But believe I don't believe that. I
don't believe that the Lakers are the villains. The Lakers
are getting all of the shine. You talk about the
Lakers all the time, So how are you a villain
when we always talking about them? Right, We're talking about
a team that's doing this, that and the third. I
really believe to be honest with you that this right here,
(15:44):
the Boston Celtics basketball organization, they are the villains because
guess what Jason Tatum, what happened at the Olympics, what
happened with Jaylen Brown?
Speaker 8 (15:53):
You know what I mean what I could go on
and on.
Speaker 7 (15:57):
Jason Tatum doesn't get He's a superstar that doesn't get it.
Speaker 8 (16:00):
He kind of calls.
Speaker 7 (16:00):
I mean, I watched him get mugged every single night
and he doesn't get a call. And so I'm not
gonna sit here and play pity for the Lakers because
at the end of the day, you know, that's Purple
and Fools.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Go, oh geez, how long you've been sitting on that one.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
I'm bad Purple and Fools go, Okay, I like it.
We'll wrap up with this. The Sons, I.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Guess, are gonna get eliminated from the playoffs officially tonight
with another loss. Kevin Durant, they tried to trade him.
You know, Kirk kad' is gonna be on the move.
Who is going to hire this guy to make one
last push? So maybe Durant can get a final ring
where you got him going this offseason.
Speaker 7 (16:40):
You know, Okay, see has a lot of has a
lot a lot of resources over there, and they have
some players over there that they could kind of maneuver.
Okay See, wouldn't be a bad place. I don't think
he's going to be the only guy that's on the move.
I think Bootenholzers probably on the hot seat as well.
Speaker 8 (17:01):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
Just I watched the Sons I called the Sun's game
when we played them in Phoenix, and then I watched
it again when we played them out here, and they
don't give any effort. There's no effort out there, and
you know that's usually a direct reflection of how your
coach is coaching at one point at a time. So
I think that he's not gonna be the only guy
(17:25):
on the move. But I definitely believe Kevin Durant is gone.
The coach is possibly gonna be gone, and I wouldn't
be surprised if he rein outed with okay See. They
got so many resources, they got so many draft picks,
first round, second rounds, and they got players that they
could also put in there.
Speaker 8 (17:43):
So I think that is probably the most attractive place.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I don't hate that take. Let me ask you would
OKC accept him like the fans, Remember he left them
and it was ugly.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
They were hating on a big time Russell Westl's with
the cupcakes.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Will they gladly say, hey, you're thirty seven.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
Thirty seven is Amber, but we'll take you on, even
though we have to lose whoever.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
They got to give up to get him.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
Let me ask you this, you ever had a girlfriend
that you like back in the day that fired you.
I ain't never had that. I never got fired for
no girl, but you probably did. So have you ever
had one that fired you that you wish that would
come back? And if she came back, you would be
with open arms? And that's the same situation.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Cold blooded? Yes, I've been dumped by a girl before.
You've never been dumped? That's a lie. There's no way.
Speaker 8 (18:31):
I ain't never been dump I know even crazy man?
What's wrong with you? Man? My man?
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Eddie House great stuff as usual? We got to get
out here to La Man. I need to hang with
Eddie House. You instantly just get over points just hanging
in his orbit. Eddie great Stuff is all yeah. Congrats
on the Celtics championship. They're gonna win it again, all right,
Eddie House he robbed Valley.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
I know he's lying. What do you mean everybody's been
dump by a girl?
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Any guy who says that comes.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
A different Oh yeah, I don't eat it on. I've
been everything like.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
That's a bridge too far for me.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Anyways, that's a good topic by Eddie Else he was great.
I'm gonna ask the staff here. I've seen some guys
looking at me sideways in the studio. If you haven't
been dumbed, I think you're lying.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Anyways.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Coming on next, Alex Curry's gonna tell us which NFL
players are under the most pressure this season.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
That's next.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
One more Heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd
to listen live or on demand whenever you like.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
Back here on the Herd Spirited hour and a half
in the books, Let's go to Alex Curry with the news.
Speaker 8 (19:41):
No, no turn on the news.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
This is the Herd Line news. Well, j Mac.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
We were both shocked by the news of Michael Malone's firing,
but more reports have come out and reportedly of former
Nuggets GM Calvin Booth wanted to play the younger guys
he drafted like Jalen Pickett and Peyton Watson, where Malone
preferred to play veteran guard Russell Wells book at Westbrook
more minutes now this they're both gone. So regardless of
(20:11):
this disagreement between your coach and GM, I still don't
think you fire your head coach with three games left
in the regular season when you're in a playoff position
and a good position like you're still not in the
play in like you're solid in a playoff spot right now,
(20:32):
and with everything we're hearing, let the GM go now
and then hold a minute and make your decision on
your head coach after the season's over.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Malone is an ornery individual, and I just he's a
little prickly to deal with. Again, successful, okay, but aren't
all the successful people in the world a little difficult
to deal with.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
Don't you want a leader that knows what he wants
and he's won you a championship just a couple of
years ago. He's been with the organization for a decade.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
It seems like Malone wanted to play Westbrook a lot.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Yeah, didn't want to play the young guys because he
trusts veterans more than he does Christian Brown, Peyton Watson.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Yeah, that's a tough one.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Note the GM, it was you've seen Moneyball obviously at
Billy Remember Billy Dean wants.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
To play certain guys.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yeah, and the coach is like, no, I don't trust them,
I'm going.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
With my guys. So what does he have to do.
He has to move on from the players, Yeah, get
them out.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
So then the coach is forced to play his dudes,
and it actually worked.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
It's crazy because I went down a rabbit hole on
this yesterday, just kind of watching different like Denver reporters
and see what like they.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
Were hearing and whatnot.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
Live Moods posted something where she was hearing that apparently
they were so divided that like the team was getting divided,
players were getting divided, anyone within the organization was getting divided,
and you picked a side and if you were on
another side, you didn't talk to someone on the other side.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
Does that make sense?
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Yeah, so I guess that would mean if you fired
the GM, half the team would have lost their guy.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Yeah, and they were Yeah, so then maybe collateral damage,
like Malone just was collateral damage, like this is this
has gotten so bad in house and so bad within
our organization, Like, I don't know if we can continue
to go with one because our everyone is so divided.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
I mean, I think he was.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Malone was saying nobody wants to watch film. He kind
of bashed his players, which is potentially a motivational tactic.
I'm not against that. Yeah, it was a tough one,
and uh, the interesting ass the the second order effect is, well,
what if Yokic doesn't like the new coach because he
loved Malone? And remember Ki pro Westbrook. So Malone was
(22:47):
pro Westbrook. Yokicch was pro Malone, pro Westbrook. Yeah, I
guess there's a world where Yokic could be unhappy with
this move.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
How much? How much do you think that they asked?
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Yeah, Eddie House said they asked him. I don't.
Speaker 6 (23:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
It was sudden that nobody was expecting it. I can't
imagine that they asked.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
It just still doesn't feel right.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
It just it doesn't like your coach is so important,
especially at this point in the season with a couple
games left, you're in a playoff spot, Like just yeah,
can you imagine this is wild?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
You just literally blew up the team, You blew up
the team.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
What if they fired mcveil though, like Week sixteen, that
wouldn't happen.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
I just if you're in a playoff thought, that's like
that's unheard of. Like you tough it out, Like I
don't care if it's.
Speaker 6 (23:32):
The players complaining.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
You are getting paid millions of dollars to play a game.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Suck it up.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
This is your leader.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
Like figure it out for another couple months and then
and then like do something after the season. It's still
just it's wildly ridiculous move that they made.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
Moving to football, Fox Sports Eric Williams ranked the top
ten players and coaches under the most pressure in the
twenty twenty five season. New Seahawk Sam Darnold makes a
list number ten. JJ McCarthy ranks eighth as he returns
from his knee injury, and first on the list was
forty nine Ers quarterback Rock Purty. I think a few
(24:12):
people need to be a little higher. The new faces
and new places I think.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Have a lot to prove.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Sam Darnold I think should be a little higher. Can
he be the same player that he was last year
under you know, kind of the quarterback guru and Kevin O'Connell,
like was he that good or was he just a
product of the Viking system. I think there's going to
be a lot of pressure there. And then I think
Ben Johnson has a lot of pressure on him too.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
He's never been a head coach.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
This was a franchise kind of make or break higher
for the Bears. I mean, he was definitely the hottest
name and best option on the market and.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
They got They got the guy right.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
But can he can he turn Caleb Williams into the
NFL quarterback and the high expectations that everyone had to
him coming in, he already is making huge moves getting
up for tection. He said he was going to restructure
a line. He's done that. He's doing everything that he
said he was going to do right out of the gates.
But I think, yeah, Ben Johnson is a little higher,
(25:12):
should be a little higher off that list.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
What about you?
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I'll go off the board. Okay, how is Bryce Young
not on that list?
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Because he's looking at an extent jobbing He hasn't found
it yet.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
He's got some work to do. Stobby should be on there.
But overall, that's that's a strong list.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
It's a strong list.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Hookah at four?
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Is that a little two rich Or is that coming
off his I might retire at thirty comments.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Maybe because he's now q'b one like wide receiver. Yeah yeah, sorry, yeah,
wide receiver one.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Two bears on the list, Kelly.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
He's like Cooper Cup was his.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Drums at seven.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
What he's not even in the league.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
Maybe he will be. I mean he's not. I feel
like he would have retired.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
What's your confidence level he'll be in the league, Alex, I.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Don't think he would be drawing it out this long.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
I need a number if if.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
He's going to be in the league, I a would
say eighty five percent.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
He's going to be playing next year.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Confidence it's high, Yeah, I don't. It doesn't feel like
he's going to retire yet. I think he's going to
give it one more shot and there's definitely going to
be an opportunity for him. But it's I like your
your take that it's going to be after the draft,
just to kind of see what happens. Who takes a
quarterback see if he wants to be in a quarterback
room where I don't know, there is a possibility where
(26:36):
he's not the starter halfway through the season, you know,
which would be interesting.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
MacArthur is a good one. I think that's that's a
strong stable for sure. Is the coach on the hottest
seat heading into the season.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
But Aaron Jones was very confident.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Think you're talking about JJ oh, yeah, like very confident.
And it's interesting because Vikings have kind of been wishy
washy on there. He's our guy, but we're keeping the
door open for the possibility to bring.
Speaker 6 (27:03):
In another quarter.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Why would you say that, I don't know, but they've
been doing that so interesting.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
What's what it was? Eleven Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
I'm not as long a lot of people are out
on Trevor lawns.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
Yeah, it sounds like you're in that group.
Speaker 6 (27:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
I don't really have a lot of expectations for him.
So that's why I don't think there's a lot of pressure.
It's just there hasn't been much through like I think
once he has an incredible standout season.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
It's it's also tough when you're with a franchise like the.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Guy William Cohen. Liam Cohen fixed Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Okay, I'm in on treble lwns, but I'm I'm on
an island there.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
No, you're not not a lot of people like him now.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
Islex How many years has he been in the league?
Speaker 4 (27:47):
Now?
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Too many?
Speaker 5 (27:49):
That's what I'm saying, four or five, and was one
of the highest paid certain players in the league.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
It's just it's tough.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
The supporting cast is larger than that.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
But I don't want to hammer anybody, Sorry Jacks.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Okay, let's move on to.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Dion Sanders, who had previously said it's going to be
an ELI situation if one of his sons or Travis
Hunter didn't go to the right NFL teams, but he's
now walking that back. Coach Prime said, I've talked to
all the parties of the teams that fit that description.
I'm not going in that direction right now because I
know who they are. Some of those teams probably won't
pick my sons anyway, so you know, you don't have
(28:29):
to get ruffled up over something that ain't gonna.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
Happen no way.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
I'm just curious where the Browns sit in Dion's standards,
because your son or Travis Hunter will likely go second
overall to that team.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Would he steer them away from the Browns?
Speaker 8 (28:49):
Like?
Speaker 6 (28:49):
What's his feeling?
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Like?
Speaker 6 (28:50):
What are the teams?
Speaker 5 (28:51):
Did he come out and said the teams that he
would steer away. You just kind of everyone just kind
of has a feeling of which franchises we're so he
would push him away.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
I wonder if he feels he's not worried about it
because he already knows where he's done.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
Two which one?
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Both? Is that possible?
Speaker 5 (29:08):
I mean, I mean not really, because you if you're
not number one overall, you don't have the first overall pick.
You are the only person who knows exactly who you're
getting and where you're going. That's it, because anything else
can happen like you don't know what happens ahead of you.
You can have these mock drafts and have these ideas
and people can say they want you, but one pick
(29:30):
can literally send a domino effect affecting every other possible
landing spot for these these players.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
It's just the way he's talking now versus how he
was before on this topic has shifted so radically. I
know has an idea, Hey man, this team's gonna draft him.
Let's keep it quiet. I mean, we're two weeks out.
You pretty much know listen in and this is different
than a draft.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
But no, but you interested.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Party sports media Yeah, you hear about stuff six months
before it happens. Yes, it's not really out there, but
you hear and then like six months later it happens.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Yeah. I get the vibe in the draft that the
Browns already have their decision. I don't think you all
of a sudden show up on draft day. All right,
what are we gonna do? Well, it's gonna be Kevinner
movie where he's in the draft all this.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
It's gonna be one of his guys, right, said one
of my sons, or Travis Hunter. The Browns have to
be taking You think they're gonna be taking.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Travis Hyde or Hunters.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
Yeah, the same.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
So I think if they're taking one of his guys.
So that's why I'm like, what does Deon think about?
Then maybe he thinks there's he believes that he believes
in the Browns even though they haven't had quarterback success
in decades.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
I mean a really good coache.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Yes, the owners, the one who's he's kind of squirreling. Yeah,
Alex Curry.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
With the news, Well that's the news and they stopping
the herd line news.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
All right, we're gonna go back to the NFL Draft.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
There's one quarterback who I believe is a first but
nobody else seems to think that we got some news
on him.
Speaker 2 (31:04):

Speaker 5 (32:11):
Two time defending UFL champions Stallions are back in Birmingham
kicking off their home opener against the Arlington nagainst Fox
UFL Friday kicks off at eight pm Eastern.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
All right back here on the Herd.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
I'm fascinated by this Jalen Moroe stuff, honestly, Like sometimes
you just latch onto a story and you're like, I'm
kind of obsessed. And this Jalen Molroe situation with the
NFL draft, folks, I've seen him as a first round
right potential player and then you see other guys. I
think the Bleacher Report has him as like the seventy
seventh prospect in the draft, and Day three it's like,
(32:49):
what do you guys see? And this goes back to
what we talked about Monday. Nobody knows anything when it
comes to the NFL Draft, absolutely nothing. Don't believe anything
you hear. What's the saying, believe half of what you
hear and.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
None of what you see, or maybe I mix that up.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
But I'm just telling you, when it comes to the draft,
it gets wacky. This is why the draft does big
ratings and it's a huge tent pole event for the
NFL in the offseason.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
So let's drill down on the Milroe situation.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
He was at Alabama, had a really really good year,
and then last year in twenty twenty four, he regressed.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Well what happened. Nick Saban was out, OC was out, and.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
They brought in the guy from Washington, Kaitlin de Boor,
who's an offensive mastermind, but first year kind of rocky.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Now he was throwing to some young receivers.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Remember the kid, Ryan Williams, I believe was seventeen when
the season started, Like there was a lot of newness.
So I'm gonna give Milroe something of a pass. Okay, however,
and I'm not mister forty guy when it comes to quarterbacks,
but this is undeniable. The only quarterbacks in the history
(33:57):
of the Combine who have run faster combine or prote
then jay Len Melroe are Michael Vick.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
And Lamar Jackson. I think that says something.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Now, when I squint, I look closely, I can see
the makings in milrow of Louisville Lamar Jackson. Now, when
I said that at the morning meeting, a couple guys
laughed because, listen, Lamar Jackson's a two time MVP.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
You can't unsee that.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
And then remember him at Louisville again, Lamar Jackson an
amazing game Louisville Clemson.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
It was a Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
I'm sure some of you die hard to remember this,
and Lamar basically was unstoppable. Now, if memory serves, they
lost that game. But Lamar was absolutely electric, and you're like,
that guy's an NFL player.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
But it wasn't always the throws.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
It was the elusiveness in the pocket, the scrambling, just
making chicken salad out of.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Chicken, you know what.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
He did, had a habit of that. However, the passing
kind of sort of matters. Now, this is an interesting
number I just found. So he threw eleven interceptions last year. Again,
Kaylin de board coach. Ten of the n eleven interceptions
were on throws fifteen are yards or less. So the
close in stuff, I'm not talking total checkdown, but the
(35:10):
close in throws that you gotta make. And there are
issues with some of his his reads in the intermediary.
And you know, one of the big criticisms of Justin
Fields coming out of Ohio State was he's got slow eyes.
He doesn't read the defense quickly. There's some of that
with Jalen Milroe. But Milroe is so fast he can
(35:31):
escape and just make plays happen. Now, again, if you
watch the Oklahoma tape where he was awful, Jala Molroe
does not look like an NFL quarterback at all. It
was on the road late and sees it. He was really,
really bad. But go watch the tape in the first
half against Georgia, oh my gosh. And even in the
second half he made some great plays. You watch that
(35:53):
and you're like, that's an NFL quarterback. That's a first
round pick. So the swings are massive. Now, some of
the advanced stats guys have looked at the college numbers
of Jalen Hurts when he was at Alabama and Oklahoma,
Lamar at Louisville and Jalen Milroe, and wouldn't you know it,
but Milroe's passing EPA numbers at Alabama were better than
(36:15):
Lamar at Louisville and hurts at boat stops. So there
are some numbers that say he was a good passing
quarterback in college. Now he wasn't consistent. And the other
problem is he takes way too many sacks, which leads
to processing questions. So I guess my point is I
don't think he's Anthony Richardson, which is what some people
are comparing him to.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
I think he's.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
Somewhere between Lamar at Louisville and Anthony Richardson at Florida.
Can he read defenses quick enough and make the passes?
Or is he just like a running quarterback who's gonna
chuck and run every single time?
Speaker 3 (36:49):
So here are the teams. He's been linked to.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Private workout with the Saints, private workout with the Browns,
and it looks like interviews with the Jets and Steelers.
Nobody seems to think he's going to the Jets or
Browns that early. Could it be the Saints at nine
if Shador goes too maybe, But this is something that
I haven't heard a lot of guys talk about. Who
(37:15):
was the OC at Alabama when Jalen Molroe had his
best season. You have to go back to twenty twenty three,
Milroe was great. That's when he was looking like a
first rounder. His OC was Tommy Reese, former Notre Dame guy.
You guys know where Tommy Reese is. Now, take a
look at the Browns coaching staff. He's the offensive coordinator
(37:35):
in Cleveland. So if anybody knows Jalen Molroe really, really, well,
it's Tommy Reese. He spent a year with him at Alabama.
So could the Browns say we're taking Travis Hunter and
then at thirty three we could grab Melroe. I think
that's got to be in play, or do they now
we got to get Shador.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
We got to trade up for Shador or take him
at two. So the Jala Molroe tough is interesting. But
I will I guess I'll cap it with this.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
If you look at him accepting the green room invite,
this is not a Will Levis situation where hey man,
I'm happy to be there.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
I'm gonna show up with my influencer girlfriend. We're gonna
go viral.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
This isn't This is not a Will Levis. He's a
very smart, level headed individual, strong family, smart family. I
think this is a Milrose situation where he goes first
round guys. And the last thing I'm gonna add is
Jordan Schultz joined the show on Monday and he talked
about drafting a quarterback every year.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
That's what the smart.
Speaker 11 (38:32):
Teams do when it comes to evaluating quarterbacks fifty to
fifty at best. The best solution to it, whether it's
Shador Jackson Dark, any of these guys, is to get
multiple quarterbacks.
Speaker 9 (38:45):
You go back to what Philly did when they had
Carson Wentz. They grabbed DeLand Hurts Washington. When they had
RG three, they had got Kirk Cousins. And even now,
if you think about Dallas, they had Dak Prescott. They
this got Joe Milton.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
That is actually ironic because.
Speaker 9 (38:59):
Elliet at Wolf was the de facto GM in New England.
Speaker 8 (39:02):
This dad is one wolf.
Speaker 9 (39:03):
He drafted Rhet far and obviously his theory was left.
You get a quarterback and new quarterback every year basically
as a backup. This is the quarterback business. The right
move is to get as many of these guys as possible,
acquire as much talent at the hardest position to evaluate,
not only in football but in all of pro sports.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
It is extremely difficult to find quarterbacks ask anybody from
that COVID draft. So this is another there's so many
like layers to this quarterback situation when it comes to
the draft.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Do you guys remember the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Had an aging Aaron Rodgers who had won I think
two MVPs in recent years, and they went and drafted
Jordan Love, one of these boom Bus prospects in the
first round. Why first round, because you get that extra year,
you get him for five years locked up. Aaron Rodgers
hated it. He's like, I need a weapon, we need
to get over the hump.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
To get back to the super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
But the Packer said, yeah, we know you like that,
but this is what's best for us. Mike Mayock, former announcer,
I think he was in the Raiders front office. He
came out and said, there's an interesting team for Jalen
Melroe and that's the La Rams. And interestingly, if you
look at that Packers situation aging star quarterback and Aaron
(40:20):
Rodgers aging star quarterback in Matt Stafford, what's happened in
the last two off seasons with Stafford in La Hey, man,
I could use a little more scratch.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
Can you trade me?
Speaker 4 (40:33):
I need more money? And like again, I'm pro Stafford.
I think he's great. I think the Rams are a
very good team. They went tot to toe with the Eagles.
I think Stafford's an awesome quarterback. But if you're doing
what's best for the franchise, just like how the Green
Bay Packers drafted Jordan.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Love when they had aging end of his prime, Aaron.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Rodgers, couldn't you argue the Rams should look at drafting
Jalen Milroe to sit for a year or two, I
don't know, and then replace.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
Matt Stafford with the Rams. Like McVeigh is a great coach.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
If anybody's gonna get your guy ready, you know you
want you want Milroe to go to like a McVeigh,
a Shanahan, a Kevin O'Connell, a Stefanski in Cleveland, smart
offensive minds who could do great things.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
And I think there's a.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
World where if Milroe lands with the Rams, he adds
a dimension, whether it's play action scrambling that we haven't
seen with McVeigh. Remember he's had pocket golf, pocket Stafford.
Milroe's that next novel guy that Shanahan wanted. Shannahan McVay
obviously very close Shanahan thought he had it in Trey
Lance found out pretty quickly, not my guy, not for me,
(41:41):
and he went back to brock Purty. So, man, I
can't believe I just did like eight minutes on Jayla
Milroe at shows how much I like this guy as
a quarterback in the NFL. Coming off next final hour,
do we have a new most hated team in the NBA?
Speaker 3 (41:57):
And Super Bowl champ Will Blackman joining us into real
