for listening to the Herd podcast. All right, from the

(00:22):
Athletic let's go live. Diana Russini is joining us, and
we've got a bunch of stuff to talk about. I
already talked Jets last hour, so I want to go.
I want to come from a different direction. So yesterday
I wasn't privy to it, but apparently like NFL and
siders were squabbling and vows and arrows yesterday on the
Pete Carroll stuff. Now, my takeaway is if players can

(00:43):
play into their forties, coaches can coach in their seventies.
Pete Carroll details culture builder, relentless energy. I guess people
on the internet were fighting over it. I buy it.
I'm not saying best candidate. I think Vrabel's a stronger
candidate probably, but the Peat thing doesn't feel like it's
just made up out of thin air. To me, what

(01:04):
do you hear, Diana, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
It's definitely not made up. Most the insiders are aware
that Pete Carroll has wanted to get back into the
coaching game this entire time. This wasn't news specifically to
the Chicago Bears, at least being connected to that makes
a lot of sense, right. He's going to take an
opportunity wherever he can get it. He's not just only
looking at the Chicago Bears. He's gonna be looking at
every single opening. And we'll see if whether teams will

(01:29):
take this seriously. You know, I know the Internet, As
you said, those Internet clowns at times are all arguing, Oh,
Pete's too old, Pete can't do this. I look at
it this way. If you're the New York Jets, for example,
and you know that you got to clean up some
things there, are you willing to take a risk on
a first year head coach who's never done it, who

(01:49):
doesn't know the paths, who doesn't know the challenges, the
adversities the big media market and just hope he can figure.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
It out on the job.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Or maybe you want to tap into God that's been
there before, that's done it, that's been through some controversies
over his life and has also found ways to win,
build up a franchise, and he's won at the highest level.
So I don't think the Pete Carroll report right now
is just to get some steam under him. I think
it's a reality that Pete Carroll wants to be a

(02:20):
head coach of an NFL team. We'll just see what
team is gonna be interested in Pete Carroll at this point.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
So an hour ago, Diana Rassina, the athletics senior insider.
An hour ago, Greg co Sell, who breaks down film
for US on Thursday, said the Cowboys are offensively really
well coached, and mike' Scott Cooper rush played at a
DAK level, and we know they don't have much of
a run game. We know they're rebuilding the O line.

(02:46):
I don't know, but Jerry's always been for all this
Maverick talk. He's always been a little more loyal to
coaches than people give him credit for. My gut this
morning is McCarthy is returning. I think he's a good coach.
I don't like him as much as mcveah, But what
do you hear him.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Before you make a move at the head coaching position,
you first take a look at who's available, right, So
when you take a look around the league and you
try to figure out who would Jerry Jones want to
work with, is there a coach out there that makes
a lot of sense for the Dallas Cowboys? And then
I think that's where you get your answer. So your
gut is that he sticks with McCarthy. And I can
tell you people in the Dallas building that work under

(03:25):
Jerry Jones claim they have no idea what they want
to do there. And I just saw Stephen Jones recently
and I asked him directly, what's the plan and he said,
we got to take a look at the entire body
of work here. My response to that was, haven't you
seen enough? But they really want to see how this
thing finishes out. And every single week I hear more

(03:46):
and more coming out of Jerry's mouth that tells you
that he believes that Mike McCarthy can get this thing right.
I can just tell you, though, what people around the
league are saying. They think Mike McCarthy's going to be safe.
We'll see what happens when this thing wraps up. But
considering what a month and a half ago, I was
on the show talking to you about this. I assume

(04:07):
that this would be it. I thought that this was
it for Mike McCarthy. They weren't winning, they seems lost,
and now they're surging and as Greg Kusel pointed out,
their offens is clicking. So why are you going to
move on to a guy who's won this many games
for you? Perhaps maybe not in the big dance, but
he's got all the right things. And I can tell
you if Mike McCarthy were to get dismissed, we'll call it.

(04:29):
There will be teams interested in bringing Mike McCarthy in
for an interview. I can tell you that I've had
some conversations with teams around the league.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
A couple of years ago, Aaron Rodgers got visited by
Solon Woody Johnson. It was come by on his beautiful
Malibu place. Yet this week Aaron says, I don't know
if I'm coming back ask Woody, which tells me it's
a frostier relationship. I think Vrabel's the leading candidate in
the room. I'd hire Dematrof Thomas Dematroff as GM. I

(04:55):
would trade Garrett Wilson, I'd keep Aaron. I would I
think he's played great the last eight weeks. I mean,
I don't know where to start on this. First of all,
gut feeling a lot of bad stories on Woody and
his kids. Is Aaron back next year? Let's start with that,
because the coaching thing we can talk about. But Aaron
and Jets, I would bring him back. What say you?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, I think you're saying that just based on the
last few weeks where you've seen him run the offense
pretty well. But there are more problems behind the scenes
than you realize. For the offense in general. Every day
there's a new door opening here in terms of what
the next steps are going to be. Three weeks ago
I talked to people who are close to Rogers who

(05:39):
said that, yeah, he probably wants this chapter of his
time in New York to be over. There are others
that say that Woody Johnson has been done with Aaron
Rodgers for a while. And then we hear Rogers say
he wants to be with the Jets, and then the
next day he says, maybe I'll be on the beach.
Right It's almost as if there's a lot of different

(05:59):
versions of this right now, because nobody really knows what
they want to do next, and the Jets really can't
move forward with this until they get the GM and
head coach in place and allow them to make the
decision on what they want to do with Aaron Rodgers.
At this point, I still don't think that this is
going to be a marriage that sticks, just based on
what I know on what's been going on behind the

(06:21):
scenes over the last few months. You know, you point
to the fact that you've heard a lot of stories
coming out about what's going on. They're not stories, it's
reporting that we did about really what the dysfunction has
been behind the scenes. And Woody Johnson does have two sons,
a nineteen year old and a seventeen year old who
influenced their dad and have made suggestions over the last

(06:43):
season or so. And what he listens and Aaron Rodgers
when you hear him talk about some of the leaks, right,
you hear him constantly complaining about it, and I think
everyone listens to him and goes, you know, what, He's right,
why are there so many leaks? Whereas I look at
it as stop worrying about the leaks and worry about
what that is that's coming out, those problems that he's
talking about the problems that we're reporting on are things

(07:05):
that have been hidden and that really need to get fixed,
Which is why I know you say Dimitrov and Mike
Vrabel are your top candidates. Why would those guys take
this job? There's so much that has to get fixed.
And if they really want a guy like Mike Rabel,
who's going to be the most sought after head coach

(07:26):
right here in this free agent space once he becomes available,
why would you not just find a way to find
Why wouldn't you just find out what Mike Rabel wants? Yeah,
at this point, and go who do you want your
GM to be? How do you want to run this?
Because the Jets need answers and he will probably be
able to provide you some. I just don't know if
they're going to make it to a point and get
them to even interview them by the time this thing goes,

(07:47):
because I know so many teams are trying to get
interviews with Vrabel once they're allowed to legally.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
All right, finally, I want to talk about the Jarrod
Male situation. So when they hired him, my take was, Okay,
it feels like it's two Bellichi and break free from
that stuff. Go offense. You're getting Drake May. I mean,
I follow a lot of Patriot fans, and you know,
you'd think this is the worst coach in the league.
Then I watched him last week against Buffalo and they
go toe to toe with the Bills when they don't

(08:13):
have close to the roster. So listen if they lose
out there. They're currently three and twelve. It's ugly, but listen,
the last few years with Bill were ugly. They have
another great draft pick. I think I'd bring him back.
But again, the heart of Boston, they've been so spoiled
by it. You know, everybody's got everything must go liquidation sale.
What's the latest with the crafts and mail?

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I know, I wish some of those fans would live
in Jacksonville for a year see how they feel. Right,
they're so spoiled. But they're spoiled, but they hold their
team accountable, which is why you have to love the
fan base like this. They can never get enough. They
forget so quickly, and you're right when you've got the
quarterback because they've got the guy. That is what everyone
has been saying around the league. Drake May is the future,

(08:57):
right They nailed that. And when you think about Robbercraft
and you think about how they are very comfortable with
keeping things New England. They don't want to change things.
They don't want to go in a different direction because
if you're then why would you. It's worked in the past.
The way they want to do it has worked, which
is why the Geron Mayo thing based on his experience. Yeah,

(09:21):
you're taking a big gamble here, but it makes sense
because he speaks their language. He is New England, and
the thought process was that Bill Belichick would sort of
bring him into it and teach him, and he got
to watch how Belichick did it, and I don't necessarily
think what we're seeing on the field is very Belichick like.
And I think that's the problem Boston fans have. It's

(09:43):
great that he was a New England Patriot at one point,
but they're not seeing those New England Patriot ways in
some of the performance on the field, some of the
things in the press conference. And I can tell you
that the Craft family, they were ready for the bumps
and bruises here. They knew that a first time head
coach is going to go through it. They are learning
on the job in a really tough market. But you

(10:05):
have to wonder if this has been good enough. And
I can tell you that the tone in that building
went from yeah, we're gonna probably be safe, whereas I
can tell you people in the building do not feel
that strongly about it anymore. It's really, I believe, gonna
come down to the last games here with Craft really
making a decision. Do you pull the band aid and
just own it and say, you know what, we believed

(10:26):
in him, we thought maybe had the pieces of what
a great coach would be. But it's not going to
be able to work. We don't have the time, we
don't have the patience for it. We don't want to
waste the years of a great young quarterback and then
find someone that can come in. Or do you say,
all right, maybe we just give them one more year.
But as we know, Colin, how many times do we

(10:47):
see owners do this? Usually usually if you're playing with it,
if you're toying with it, if you're thinking about it,
you should make the move because you always come back
the next year and you'll wind up firing the guy anyway.
So most of those owners that have the those doubts,
they usually come through and if Robert Kraft is having doubts,
then this could be another opening we see available.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Yeah, and it's usually about seven new coaches a year.
We're currently at three, so I think in the next
week to two weeks you're gonna see moves. There's a
couple of big candidates, and you and I both think
the Pete Carroll thing feels like it's got a pulse.
Diana Russini, hope you and your great family had a
wonderful time. It's great seeing you. You know, you're just
crushing in your job. Your podcast with Chase Daniels is

(11:26):
outstanding and way to go. Congrats.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
You bet. Diana Russini at The Athletic and her podcast
Scoop City with Chase daniel all Right, J Max got
some good stuff and J Mack, you know, here's what
he does. There is an amazing rumor. I don't want
to get into it, but it is the best rumor
I've ever heard. I'm going to talk to him during
the break to figure it out. I think I know

(11:51):
what it is because I heard a little berg chirping
in the NFL and college over the weekend, and now
it's gaining steam live in La Herd.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
All sorts of things hovering out there. Jamack with the news,
Turn on the news.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
This is the Herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Mary Collen.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
We got to go back to Lamar Jackson man.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
He was on fire. He's having a great season. It's
weird he won the MVP last year, but he's played
better this year.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Lamar's fifty five yards away from four.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Thousand passing yards and one hundred and fifty yards away
from one thousand rushing yards.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
It's got the second best TASSER rating.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
In NFL history and also leads the league in total yards,
total touchdowns, TV interception ratio.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
You know, these island games can swing some things.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Remember last year Lamar against brock Berdy head to head,
Ravens smashed the Niners.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Remember that game, and then Lamar was the MVP.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
I don't know if Lamar did enough yesterday to kind
of get his name on equal footing as Josh Allen.
I still think it's Josh Allen as MVP, but has
Lamar swayed you at all with these league.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
No, I mean, I think it's a coin flip. I think,
you know, most valuable player. I don't think either team's
win in seven games without the starting quarterback, so I'm
I'm I'm comfortable with both. I put Saquon Barkley probably third,
but I don't have a strong opinion. I think they're
both spectacular. I thought yesterday he only went ten for fifteen,

(13:30):
so Derrick Henry was really the Bellweather performer.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Allen's minus two forty, so you got about two hundred
forty dollars to win one hundred, Lamar plus one eighty
than Saquan a distant.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Third, and Jared Goff at four. Where's Patrick Mahomes on
the list. I don't see him.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Oh yeah, that that team has greater goals than MVPs. Yeah.
They're not really into Pennance and awards. They're into this
big trophy named after Vince Lombardi.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah, yeah, something like that. All right, story this is weird.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
I haven't heard a peep about this, but according to
the Philadelphia Choir, after the Eagles lot to the commanders
on the field, Nick Sirianni got into it with former
Eagle slash current commander.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Tight end Zach Ertz. They had to be separated in postgame.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Now. I haven't seen video yet, but big Dom remember
that guy from the sideline last year he separated Ertz
and Sirianni, and Sirianni has since apologized to Ertz on
a zoom call.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Jesus, he's got to grow up.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
I'm just telling I know people want to say the
great record.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
He's kind of coming across as a meathead, kind.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Of goofy stuff every week at something. Now.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
He met with the media today and also said that
Jalen Hurts is still in concussion protocol and it's starting
to sound like he will not start.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
They called up Ian Book from the practice squad.

Speaker 5 (14:53):
And oh, by the way, Kenny Pickett hurt his ribs
against Washington, so the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Suddenly walking wounded. I mean, I'm sorry, it's cratering. This
was nine and a half, it's down to six and
a half.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Yeah, I had this Sirianni stuff. I go back to this,
the fact that a coach on the staff stepped in
front of the head coach on a ten game, nine
game winning streak to not let him get the Jalen Carter.
That tells you amongst the staff, there's a lot of
eye rolling with Nick Sirianni. I'm telling you, if they
get bounced in the first round, he's out.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
I don't if they get snatched in the second round,
I would not be shot if he gets I mean,
what does it tell you that a not even a coordinator,
a position coach on the team stepped in front of
him said go back to the sideline, a position coach.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
And when do you think it?

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Shots at zach Ertz like he was beloved in Philly
and he's a coach separated from someone's tight end on
the opposing team.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Sad.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
This is just not a good look for the franchise.
I don't know I got him with you. I don't
know that Siriani coach in there next year. And you
believe because of this situation, guys like Rabel and Ben Johnson,
they're gonna hold off.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
You don't want to go take like the Saints or
the Jets, not.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
With the Eagles job potentially lurking out there. Right, this
is easily the best job in the market, way better
than the Bears.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
No, easily, this is the one I think Belichick would
go for.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Well would but he's now at North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Well he can leave though. Remember he is allowed to
leave with a tiny buyout this July. He's allowed. That
was the crazy little addendum in the contract. And I'm
arguing that anybody that has that addendum fought for it
with his attorneys. I'm sorry, But if the Philadelphia Eagles

(16:44):
job came open or North Carolina. By the way, his
son is already there as the defensive coordinator.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
So Eagles lose the NFC Championship to them, that's different.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
So you're keeping them NFC that Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
I would. If you lose to Detroit in overtime, I
can live with that. If you got if you got
upset in the first two rounds, I think he's in trouble.
I just go back to that sideline and counter. That
is not something to smell, right position, coach, get back
to the headset, coach, what that's not good.

Speaker 5 (17:16):
The final story is, let's do the Pittsburgh Steelers again,
because listen, their fan base was really thumping their chests
for the first three Yeah, yet they've hit a bit
of a.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
Tough stretch here.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
The Steelers have closed a playoff spot. But they do
not need lead the AFC North anymore. They've lost three
in a row. Mike Tomlin not happy about the situation.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
You can look at it from a lot of angle.
As the bottom line is junior.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Bar so he is not good enough.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
We got to own that, but we also got to
look at what it is we need to do different.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Yeah, I think structurally they're too solid, They're too well
run foundationally to ever be awful. But this is about
a ten year run where we don't really take them
seriously as a super Bowl team. I mean at Buffalo,
Kansas City, and Baltimore have leapfrogged congrats on beating Baltimore.

(18:13):
A lot those teams have leapfrog them. I think Harvon
Herbert have now officially this year, leapfrog them. Peyton bow
Nicks are not going backwards. So I mean to me,
if you told me next year five best teams in
the AFC Kansas City, Baltimore, Buffalo, Boom, I think once
Harbon Herbert can get more offensive weapons. Therefore, and again

(18:34):
I think bow Nicks year two, Sean Payton, I think
they're ahead of them. And I think I'll tell you
this if Indianapolis goes hard and land Sam Darnold. I'd
put them because I like the Colts roster. Oh yeah,
I would put them ahead of the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
So it's weird.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
The Steelers, I think have invested more in their cap
space and defense than any other team in the league.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Or they're certainly top five.

Speaker 5 (18:56):
But Colin, if you look at these results, the Eagles
hammer them.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Okay, it was not that was not a close game.
Then they played Baltimore.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
Baltimore hangs thirty four of them. Then they play Kansas
City and the Steelers get housed. I'm looking you step
up in class and face the top teams, and you
do You're not competitive.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
They've lost all these games by fourteen or more. So
what are we doing here? Is there upside with this team?
What do you do? Do you rethink Russell Wilson now
in the offseason.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Again, Russell Wilson, Hey, hey, wonderful you crossed Cleveland and
you did well against the Giants and the Jets and
the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
If you can't let me ask you this, you don't
think Sam Darnald's tasty to the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
That's a tough division for him.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
Outdoors, cold weather California guy. We saw him flopping New
York outdoors.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah, maybe that was the Jets and not Donald. I
don't think rain and wind is going to be a deterrent.
I'm not sure. If I have Sam Darnold, I could
choose stiking in Indy or Tomlin and Pittsburgh. I'm taking
the offensive coach. I'm a free agent. I can go
where I want. I would take it.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
In that division with INDI I think Indy.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
I think if he doesn't stay in Minnesota, I think
Indy is super attractive, indoors, capable, GM, excellent offensive coach,
number one wide receiver you played within college, and Michael Pittman,
star running back. That's a good roster.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
That's a good team.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
I just, you know, listen. On a selfish note, I
took a lot of heat for my off season commentary
on the Steelers when I said trade TJ.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Watt and Star.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
But I wasn't wrong. I was just early right.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
I mean I look wrong for nine ten weeks all
of a sudden, what do you do in the off
season for Pittsford Colin do you bring We're talking about
him as a forty million dollar a guy last year,
last week, weren't we I don't think you could pay.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Him forty million?

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Can you?

Speaker 1 (20:44):
What do you think Russell?

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Russell?

Speaker 1 (20:46):
You're not paying him forty thirty thirty two thirty. I
mean he'll again if it was a great quarterback class.
I think differently. I think Aaron Rodgers could be on
the market, Kirk Cousins could be on the market. Sam
Darnold could be on the market. I'd go Darnold, Rogers, Cousins.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
And you're you're a distant third at quarterback in the
division with Burrow and Lamar's to the best of the league.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
I don't know what's going on with the Browns.

Speaker 6 (21:11):
All of a sudden.

Speaker 5 (21:11):
Steel has got a lot of questions in Pittsburgh's always
say another fun off season team to deal with.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
But I mean, let's be clear, it's been a decade,
eight to ten years. We don't consider him. I mean,
couldn't I argue this was the year for the getting
to be good. Harbaugh's first year and a Chargers team
in a rebuild, bow Knicks rookie quarterback. I mean, this
was the year. This was the getting good year. Burrow's

(21:38):
defense is atrocious. Burrow, They're gonna make some.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
Moves and the Broncos are basically paying Russell Wilson's.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Salary this year.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
So now Denver's gonna get some money to play with.
Herbert's gonna have actual weapons, like this was the year
to do some damage.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
They had a good run, you know, ten wins nothing
to scoff at eclipsed the season win total.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
You know what, maybe pirates will take over the city.
Maybe it's no longer a stealer to the Penguins. Jmack
with the News.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
line news.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
No, it's it's it's funny about you make predictions. And
you know, I always say this about kids, the days
are long, but the years fly by. That's an old
saying with kids. In the NFL, the weeks are crazy,
but the season's predictable every week. Oh my god, who
did I have in the AFC winning Division? Buffalo, Kansas City,

(22:32):
Houston Chiefs? Who did I have? Is?

Speaker 5 (22:35):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (22:36):
What did I have? Harbaugh doing playoffs first year? Who
was my surprise team? Denver and Peyton? That was my
AFC's prediction NFC I had Philadelphia Atlanta Rams and I
had both. I had Green Bay beating Detroit, both playoff teams.
It's not that hard week to week. The NFL's crazy.
Over the course of seventeen weeks, you kind of know

(22:58):
what you're getting. And with Pittsburgh, eventually we all looked
at the end of the remember the schedule. You can
put the schedule up if you want. With the Steelers,
we did this before the season. We're like, yeah, they
play a bunch of dogs, they play a bunch of
also rans, and they're probably gonna win some games. And
then they got hot and we're like, wow, they're better.
But we all looked at the end of their schedule
in the last six seven games, and we're like Burrow

(23:18):
and Mahomes and Lamar Jackson and Philadelphia and we're all like,
that's the season. The final seven games, Well, it's an
f three good teams can't compete with any of them.
That's what's happened. Live in Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
The third be sure to catch live editions of The
Herd weekdays and Noon Easter not a em Pacific.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
So it's interesting. There's a rumor out there and the
Miami Heat have squashed it this morning. Now, when people
deny once a rumor gets out. It gets out for
a reason. So Jimmy Butler's going to want to be traded,
was the story. Yesterday. Miami Heat pat Riley came out
and said, hey, we don't talk about we don't talk
about rumors, but we're not gonna trade him. That doesn't

(23:59):
mean anything. You know, people just want to stop. They
want to stop the momentum. The Miami Heat want to
seize control of this. I imagine Jimmy Butler and his agent
probably leaked it in. Miami's like putting a foot down
because they don't want to lose control of the situation.
I think it's a loss for the NBA that he
stays in Miami. They're a non title threatening team with
a great coach. They're you know, six in the East.

(24:21):
The middle and bottom of the East is not very good.
I think you'd much rather see him go to the
Warriors and give them a shot to win a championship
or the Lakers. You know, Lakers could use him, but
I think Golden State's the better fit. A Lakers have
a lot of issues. They don't have any depth the
Warriors do. They don't have enough shooters the Warriors do.
Butler's not a classic three point shooter. He's a playmaker

(24:43):
and a great number two scoring option. I think he's
a great fit with the Warriors. You probably have to
give up Wiggins and Kaminga, which I'd be willing to do. Kaminga.
I keep waiting for the explosion. It's not happening. And
you know Wiggins is a good player, but he needs
to be your four. If you're a championship team, you're
not beating Boston with Andrew Wiggins being your second scoring option,

(25:05):
maybe your third, but mostly your fourth Jimmy Butler. You
can get to the finals with Jimmy Butler as your
number two scoring option. With Draymond and with staff, and
with Pods, and with Buddy Healed and Steve Currier coach,
they get a nice bench Jackson that works for me.
I think staying in Miami doesn't do the league any favors,
but you know, pat Riley didn't care about that. I

(25:25):
thought the NBA had a very good day yesterday. It's funny.
Jamac during the break said what would you make of
Lebron playing with staph? And the reason I don't love
it is because guys like Kevin Durant can fit anywhere
You could put Kevin Durant on every team in the

(25:45):
league and he fits. You can give him the ball
in the three seconds to go on the shot clock,
it doesn't matter. You can put him anywhere. If Lebron
is on your team, he has to be the ecosystem
of the offense, and the Warriors have their offense. Lebron's
not going to play off He's not gonna do that.
Lebron has to control things. That's why he loves Austin Rivers.
Why does Lebron like him Because he's not a threat

(26:07):
and he can take a break in. Austin's your playmaker.
I don't think he works with Steph Curry. I think
Steph's the offense. If you look at the plus minus
of the Warriors, they're like plus one sixteen when Steph's
on the floor, minus sixty two when he's not. He's
the offense. He's the ecosystem. And so I don't think
Lebron's a great fit. Now, Jimmy Butler doesn't need the

(26:29):
ball in his hands. He can play off ball. He's
an excellent defender. In a world where you need wing defenders,
he can do that. He is tough, he's great in
the playoffs. He's dependable, he's a grown up. So I
think Jimmy Butler is a great fit with the Warriors.
I don't think Lebron is and I think the Lakers
have a million problems. They're not deep enough. I mean,
Golden State has depth, the Lakers don't. Golden State has

(26:51):
three point shooters, the Lakers don't. Steph's four or five years,
four years younger than Lebron. I think Steph can get
you to the finals. I don't think can. He's had
a nice run after some time off, but I don't
think he can. So that's where I am. Well, do
you have any thoughts on that whole trade scenario. I
wish you would move just because it's good for the league.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Yeah, I mean it feels like his time is it's
run its course in Miami for Jimmy Butler. But on
the Lebron Curry thing, just watching them together at the Olympics,
and I know that's a totally different sport, Olympic basketball
than the NBA. Just the energy and the I mean,
the historic greatness these guys have been battling. They've been
the face of the league for at least the last
fifteen years going head to head ten to fifteen years.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Well that's you. You would prefer that you didn't have
to depend on them to get a rating on Christmas,
but Hollywood, but would prefer that Tom Cruise wasn't the
last bankable starred open theater.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
But some of these other guys, they're not quite ready yet, right,
Some of these guys aren't ready to ascend to face
of the word.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
They don't want to be the face or they don't.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Yokich, I don't think wants it. I don't think he'd
push back on that at all. I think the NBA
had a great day yesterday.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
That nice game.

Speaker 5 (27:55):
Listen, Mane Michel Bridges going for forty plus the shot making, Like,
I know you like this as too many threes, But
these guys are making so many impossible shots. I think
it's quality basket.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
I don't have a problem with Mikale Bridges taking threes.
That I don't have a problem with. I have a
problem with Wemby going ten for ten close to the
basket and then like four for twenty away from the basket.
Well what's better to watch? What's you know? Again? Math
makes bad entertainment a prime example, in baseball, Well, the

(28:29):
analytics say, that's why a lot of these big companies,
like the one I work with and ESPN. I don't
think ESPN's doing a big baseball deal. Why because math
makes bad television and so analytics are fine. But remember
these TV networks and screamers now are paying thirty to
thirty five percent of your bills. Attendance is paying thirty

(28:50):
to thirty five percent of the bills, and there's merchandising
and you know, parking whatever. But my point is, if
I'm paying thirty five percent of the bills, I get
a say. And these leagues and these companies and these
big broadcast centers and streamers are saying, speed the game
of baseball up, speed it up. And they did, and

(29:10):
it delivered, and Fox broke with And I guarantee you now,
the NBA's got NBC, Amazon and ESPN, Espn'll be fine.
They're the incumbent. But NBC's got to build a whole
new basketball division. And Amazon's got to build a whole
new basketball division. And you know what they're gonna say,
we're paying about forty percent of the revenue. Make the

(29:31):
game less homogeneous.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Listen, I know it's you run this show for a
long time.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
Why don't you try to get Adam Silver on and
ask him. I guarantee you he will have some interesting
pushback on we.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Don't need to move this.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
I think Adam Silver knows it's an issue. I think
he's too smart to be dumb on this issue. I
think he knows he's got an issue. When Kevin Durant
admitting it, when Lebron's admitting it, when Joe Mizool, They're
all admitting it. NBA had a good day. I'll still
watch the playoffs. I'm just saying I said this for baseball.
I moved off baseball. I moved back into it last year.
I thought it was great. I thought the playoffs were

(30:06):
a month of unbelievable television.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
I do agree. You know, for some people the threes
aren't for them.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
But once NFL ends, Yeah, and it's NBA and college
basketball and hockey, what are you gonna You're not gonna
watch the NBA?

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Of course you are.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
You know what I'm gonna watch? Okay, well, Caitlyn Clark
in June, that'll get You're.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Gonna watch w NBA regular season.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Caitlin Clark, I did last year.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Yeah, Caitlyn Clark, you didn't watch the other teams. I mean,
the NBA is gonna be fine.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
They've watched Stephen Lebron That are not watching the other teams.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Well, the other teams.

Speaker 5 (30:38):
Some of these guys got to get their act together,
like your boy Anthony Edwards and Lucas got to get healthy.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Lucas missed a bunch of games.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Now, hey, so I gotta be fair here, Greg, I
wanted to say brock Purty, Greg co Cell, I don't
see it, but Greg co cell broke down the struggles
of brock Purdy about an hour and a half ago.

Speaker 6 (31:01):
You have to separate the money from the conversation because, look,
everybody knows what brock Purty is. Brock Purdy is not
a big guy. He doesn't have a great arm. So
what has to happen for brock Purdy to be a
really good player. He has to have a good old line, which,
by the way, has not been good this year. The
depth of the pocket, which is controlled by the interior

(31:21):
of the ol line.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
Has not been very good.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
So he's been squeezed a lot.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
And because he doesn't have a big arm, he needs
space to throw the ball right now. Purdy does not
have much around him, so his game is going to
look like it lacks consistency at times on a week
to week basis.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
But one of the issues is that, like Joe, Burrow
is unbelievably productive with a battle line, and Justin Herbert's
winning games for years and highly productive. Let's talk about
the production of Burl and Herbert with atrocious offensive lines.

(31:58):
Burrow leaves the NFL in touchdown this bad old line.
Herbert broke rookie records, thirty second ranked offensive line. So
my thing is, I understand if you're better with a
great o line, but Burrow is a hot knife through
butter with a bad old line offensively, you want to

(32:20):
be paid like those guys, I can't see this huge
drop off. And again, Justin Herbert thirty second ranked offensive
line first year out of Oregon. He set the records. You
want to be paid like him, you gotta perform like
him now. Greg Cosell also discussed a quarterback that America

(32:41):
bailed on, but there was a hard working, earnest sportscaster
that never lost faith. Here's Greg co Sell on one,
Sam Darnold.

Speaker 6 (32:51):
He's much more efficient and much more effective when he
moves within the pocket.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
I'm not talking about running out of the pocket.

Speaker 6 (32:59):
I'm talking about moving within the pocket, as we see
on this touchdown last week that won.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
The game to Jefferson.

Speaker 6 (33:04):
The other thing is sort of a corollary point to that.
That's his ability to stay in the pocket and make
late in the down throws when the pocket is squeezed
and there's bodies around him. That was something he did
not do well early in his career. He made a
lot of bad reads and bad throws when he tried
to do that. He's gotten so much better at that.

(33:26):
So there are two areas of pocket play that are
absolutely critical to being a higher level pocket quarterback that
he's improved significantly at.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
So the question is do they keep him or let
him go. The Colts, I believe will make a run
at him. I think the Tennessee Titans would make a
run at him. Minnesota may keep him. I think he
has a real market. I will also say I think
Aaron Rodgers has a market too. It is smaller than
Sam Darnold and Jamack will roll his eyes. I think

(33:54):
Kirk Cousins probably has a one team market. I think
Aaron may have a two team market. I think Darnold's
probably got a four team market, and I think uh
Shador Sanders and cam Ward and Jalen Milroe all have
a couple teams that are interested. It's not a huge market.
But I will say this, the idea that Aaron Rodgers

(34:17):
has no market I don't buy. Last eight weeks, Aaron
Rodgers played We're to good football. He's moving well. He
was the issues. He was the issue early for the Jets.
In my opinion, he's not the issue now. He's moved
past that. It's a coaching issue. It's an instability issue.
It's Garrett Wilson complaining issue. That's what it is. J Mack,

(34:38):
we mowed through this thing today. That was good, super
fast hill. Are we doing this tomorrow or yeah, yeah,
I'm blazing five tomorrow. I feel very good. Okay do
you think do you think Steeler fans will reach out
to both of us and apologize.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
I'm gonna go with no.

Speaker 5 (34:53):
By the way, I didn't even need the terrible towel yesterday.
There's nothing to wave it for Steeler for totally all.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
I was shocked.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
No.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Chris Jones and the Chiefs got excellent pressure on Russell
Wilson without their star lineman.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Did it not look like late careers Seattle for Russell Wilson.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
It looks worse. It looked worse. It was worse than
it was bad.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
That end zone interception to uh, I mean, it just
didn't read the safety that.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
We're also asking Russell to play a lot of games
in a short time and that's tough. Mahomes can do it,
he's in his prime. But how about the emergence of
Travis Kelcey in the last couple of games. Hey, come on,
he's bringing it.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Are they really going to go to the Super Bowl again?

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Colin?

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Oh, gosh, I guess I'm fine with it at Taylor
swifts there.

Speaker 5 (35:39):
But Detroit Buffalo would be so much better indoors Detroit Buffalo,
Detroit Buffalo, Detroit Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
Those games would be way more exciting.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Don't always get what you want.
