You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
And a three time Super Bowl champ and a one
time MVP, Julian Edelman, now joining us on the set
Fox NFL Sundays. I always think it's fascinating to talk
to you in moments like this because this game's I've
had so many pros tell me there's regular season games,
there's playoff games, and then this is the flashlight flashball game. Like,
is different? Go to your first series of every Super Bowl?

(00:48):
Even for you, I mean we're even in New England.
Practices were intense. Is the first series different?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Is there?

Speaker 1 (00:54):
I mean? Michael Irvin said, like in warm up, it's
the first time, like couldn't feel legs. It's different.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
It is very different.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
The lights are brighter, and early in my career they
still had the flashes. So I used to play on
kickoff team and remember you see those epic shots of
all the flashes from the first kickoff of the Super Bowl,
and that first drive is one of those feel like
we gotta get We can't dip our toe. We got
to dive into the water type drives where anytime we

(01:24):
had a force block, I remember the first time going
in and blocking Cam Chancellor, and like the first play,
I would always go in and try to light someone
up to clear the cobwebs. Everyone's a little nervous there,
everyone's thinking about stuff. It's the first play of the game.
I remember I went in lit up, tried to light
up Cam Chancellor and he felt like a rooted tree
and it was a big hit and it kind of

(01:45):
stumbled me. But like after that, I was like, all right,
my feet are wet. Yeah, I'm ready to go. And
I do think for receivers getting the ball early, you know,
after a two week prep, you know it's a four
hour game.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
You've been through ope, you've been through media night.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
There's been so many logistics you've had to cover, from
taking care of your friends, your family, all the distractions.
Getting something early is like, all right, we're involved, now
we can get going. So I agree this game is
different everyone's a little bit healthier because of the extra
week off.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Everyone's a lot more prepared.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Because you have two weeks to prep for guys, and
it's just a it's a whole nother speed. There's no
saving the gas like you save the gas a little
bit here and there in the regular season, because it's
a long season.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Here. When you have.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
Professional athletes that are big, fast and strong, playing relentless,
it's a different game.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I asked Michael this about Jimmy Johnson. I'll ask you
the same question with Belichick. You've often told me that
Bill was so good on Saturday nights. Tom said this
just buttoning stuff up. What is the pregame speech for
a Super Bowl?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
The pregame speech for the Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (03:04):
It changed every year, but the one that sticks out
was fourteen, when we went ten years without winning a
Super Bowl. It was kind of like our generation of
Patriots first go at it, and he went on this
big speech of everyone's here for a reason. The Rob
Nikovich's that were long snappers, the Devin mccordy's that weren't

(03:26):
first round draft picks, me who was a quarterback, the
Tom Brady who was getting old. Everyone was kind of
like a misfit or an outcast at that time.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
They couldn't get over the hump.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
And he just reminded us, like, we're all here for
a reason, and let's make that reason for a win.
So you know, it was nothing like It wasn't like
al Pacino in any given Sunday.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
It was subtle.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
And he would show clips and highlights of guys in
college and guys that, you know, pivotal pieces of the team,
the James Whites shames those guys. He would show everyone like,
this is our reason why we're here, just to you know,
and it did get you fired up and you get
all get all fiery, and then you had to go
to two hour walk through.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
But you know, it was good.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It was good.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Strangely, despite all the components, you guys were a slow
first quarter Super Bowl team. Were the plays scripted or or?
And I always think Bill had such confidence in his
culture and system that he wouldn't mind. It's like Allie
in his prime, I'm gonna feel this puppy out. I'm
knocking on low the exotics. Why did you guys start

(04:38):
so slowly?

Speaker 4 (04:41):
I think it's it's it's a very hard game to
get a rhythm in, there's longer commercials, there's more commercials,
there's an anticipation by everyone because of the two weeks
I mean and all everything that how big they make
this event, Like you feel that in the first few drives.
And then also I think he would always say, it's

(05:04):
a you gotta wait for the game to declare. So, guys,
there's gonna be a point in the either the first
quarter the second quarter where we're on our script and
we're gonna have to adjust to the adjustments and the
game is going to declare. I just remember him always
saying that, And and yeah, we go in with a
somewhat of a scripted not a West Coast twenty five

(05:27):
plays script, but we'd have like certain plays that we
knew we wanted to run here and there. And it
was always kind of like, all right, we'll see how
they're playing this play because we have a counter to
this play. Okay, is the d N is he slooping
on this thing? Is he coming out? How's he playing?
How's this often, how's this coverage going? So it's a
lot of feeling each other out, seeing what the game plan,

(05:47):
what they've been working on, any wrinkles and it's just
one of those things.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Where we're driving the ball.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
A couple times we threw you know, we fumbled it
or picked it just once again a lot of nerves
going to that first drive, lackarhythm because of all the
lengthy timeouts and just guys just trying to feel what
the game is going to be.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
You hear a lot the critics of Chiefs fatigue, and
I think the ultimate compliment. I remember this with the
Jordan rules and Shaq and Kobe and New England. It's like, uh,
like I always thought the flight gate was a joke.
I just to me, it was just nonsense. When you
hear Chiefs fatigue and they're getting the calls, I do

(06:29):
think that Buffalo game, I thought it was a first down.
They didn't get it. I mean, the tuck rule, it
is what it is. There was thirteen minutes left in
that game with Buffalo. Make a play. But you've been
in that world where you're kind of the villain. Was
it inspiring? Did you care?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
It was definitely inspiring?

Speaker 4 (06:46):
And if this is the if this is the worst
thing they get is that the refs call for them,
like we went through a couple gates. You know like
that they'd get off easy if this is if this
is the length.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Of how much people are getting on them.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
But I think it's one of those things where everyone
says stuff about you. It kind of it's the biggest
compliment where everyone has to come up with excuses instead
of just beating you.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
So it's the ultimate compliment. I think.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
I do think there's a real connectivity between you and
the Patriots or you and the Chiefs. It's a star coach,
star quarterback often going into a Super Bowl where people
think the Seahawks or the Eagles have better players or
the Niners, but you're both. You and the Chiefs are
so great in situations, circumstantially, situationally, so strong. You won

(07:42):
a lot of close games, and that's why it's so
ironic that you lost to the Giants twice in close games.
Did you feel it was an advantage having those games
with Baltimore and Peyton, Manning and Pittsburgh like games that
were in doubt with four minutes left? Does that play
a part in the Super Bowl? Kind of been here?

Speaker 4 (08:01):
It does play a part because it's a bit of experience.
I remember when we were down what New Orleans week
four two scores with a minute thirty we came back
and won that game. Kemberll Tompkins on the sideline on
the with play with time ending like that was on
Week four. But that feeling that guys felt that you

(08:23):
can come from behind when it's against all odds that
lasts the whole season.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
That's a bit of experience.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
So I do think that all these close games that
the Chiefs have played in, that's just built to their
their situational football. Like whenever the game was close, we
understood that. Our coach always talked about being a tough mentally, tough,
physical team that performs under pressure in situations consistently, and that's.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
What the Chiefs have done.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
If you look at a lot of their stats, they're
not explosive by any means, but they're ten percent higher
than last year. On the third down, they have like
some forty nine ten play plus drives, and what's that.
That's them evolving their team, knowing that they have a
great defense and having these long drives and adjusting their
team to winning the game. A lot of these teams,

(09:14):
they get all infatuated with having the best running offense
or the best passing offense or this that the Chiefs
just worry about getting one more point than the other team.
That's where they're at in their career.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
You know, Mahomes and Kelsey, there's a lot of times
that I just think they look at each other, you clearly,
especially like by the time you're getting to Atlanta and
that Super Bowl, were there times that you did go
off script where there was a Super Bowl moment where
Tom looked at you and it was one of those
where maybe you tried it and it didn't work, and

(09:46):
you kind of just felt like that does that happen
in the game of this magnitude?

Speaker 4 (09:50):
It does happen? Super Bowl forty nine, Seattle. It was
a third down in that last drive before where were
go going down to score.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
After I took that big hit.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
It was the next drive there was a has Z
juke where I have a juke rout in the middle
of the route, and they did They dropped a pe dropper,
So there was eight guys in coverage, three Russian and
the guy dropped out and I brought my depth deeper
and went around him and we ended up converting the
third down. And me and Tom literally just talked about

(10:24):
this play like it wasn't on there, but because of
the time on task that we had with each other
and the trust that we had with each other, Like
he trusted my eyes in that situation, and I trusted
his throw in that situation.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
I remember that play, you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
So a lot of that happens through the reps and
the preparation that you've had for years with guys. I mean,
Travis and Patrick can finish each other's sentences because they've
seen the same looks football. There's only six coverages. Okay,
let's break it down. It's not rocket science. There's only
so many things they can actually do, and they've it's

(11:00):
seeing everything multiple times, so when they see a messed
up look with a look, they can determine without even talking, Hey,
we know what we're doing because Thursday practice we hit this.
Remember on that and they don't even have to say
anything nonverbal comps.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
What do you do on Friday before the Super Bowl?
What's that? What's that practice?

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Like Friday's fast Friday. So it's a very mental fast practice.
No balls on the ground, crossing, the t's dotting the
i's going over certain situations that may have gave you
some trouble early that week in practice or the prior
week of practice back at home, you go over all that,
you tighten it up, you get a little lift in.

(11:39):
It's very fast, it's very mental. And then like usually
Friday night, this is like your last day to hang
out and see your family. Then you're going zero dark
thirty Lebron style after that. So you have your night
where they probably some like welcome the families to the
Super Bowl thing, You say hi to your family, you
have a dinner potentially, and then after that tomorrow you

(12:00):
have your picture day and it's a big mental day,
walk through day.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
You're kind of getting your treatment in.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
You're trying to calm the storm before you know it's
real calm and like today is like your last day.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
This is your last day physically to go out and
rep something.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Now you can have a thousand different Like in Seattle,
when we felt like we needed more man coverage plays
in the red area, we had all the hay in
the barn. That week's of practice or that two weeks
of practice, we put in like three or four plays
in the red area. Saturday night before the game the
ex return where I scored, and then the Danny touchdown

(12:40):
where he had it was the four Crossers in the
red area.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
We knew, we.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Felt like we need I don't know where we got it,
but Josh and Tom they said we need some more.
I remember Tom saying we need something else where.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
They I want to easier.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Look, I don't want to have to process here here
here in the red area. So we put those two
plays in and we repped it a night before. So
there's a lot of the crossing, the t's dot in
the eyes, finishing the family right now today, Friday, Saturday,
it's zero dark thirty.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Did bid Bill give you I mean, you guys had
some some of you were young. You were young at
one point. Did Bill give you a night? Yeah, Tuesday,
so you can go do whatever.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Monday night off Tuesday there or there was no there's
no curfew Monday Tuesday. You had like a regular off
day Tuesday where you're expected to kind of go in
and get some treatment, watch some film. But it's not mandatory,
but you looked at.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Differently if you don't do it. Uh, you know. So, yeah,
guys would go out on a Monday.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
I remember going my first Super Bowl before I was
really playing it. That many times in Indie hanging with
Cope and drinking a couple of beers and just talking
old war stories. They had that happened we have We
had that. Yeah, we had fun. I know, I know
everyone thinks we didn't have fun. You know, I know
it's real fun. Going to the damn parade the next.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Day, that's fun. Yeah. The you know, it's by the end.
With Tom, he was so iconic. I mean, Tom was
so big. I still I was at the Atlanta super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
To me, that is I thought everything changed. I thought, Tom,
you know, there was all this ridiculous talk for years,
well you know, the system. And then I thought, after
the Atlanta super Bowl, It's like we just watched the
best player that's ever played football play. You of course
had the catch. I thought everything felt different. You guys
were a dynasty. It felt like Tom sort of went

(14:30):
into the galaxy of Oh he's above Montana, he's above
l Way take me beyond the catch and the catch.
What do you remember about at the end of the
Because I went back looked the highlights two nights ago.
I mean, every play Julian in the last every play
in the last half hour mattered. YEA, was that the

(14:51):
most intense environment ever?

Speaker 3 (14:54):
You know, I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
It was intense, but it wasn't the most because once again,
like we were talking about earlier, we had that situation
where we're down ten points against Seattle in the fourth
quarter before and had the biggest comeback from behind victory. Now,
that experience helped us going forward to this one.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
But we did. I mean, you did.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
Feel that Tom hit a different stratosphere after we won
that game, because you know, he overcame Bradshaw Montana got
to five. But I always tell the story like before
that year, we were training in LA and on the whiteboard,
Tom had the address to the super Bowl in Arizona, and.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
I asked him, what's this and you know, he says.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
It's a super Bowl and I was like, man, I
can't wait to get you past Joe.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I want to get you past Joe. We got to
catch Joe because we were both San.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Francisco forty nine er fans. He looked at me and
didn't miss a beat and said, I'm going for Jordan.
I'm not going for Joe. And then after that, when
we won that game, I said.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
We're going for Jordan.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
It was fun.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
It was He's got a podcast, Games with Names Fox
NFL kickoff Sundays in the fall on Fox. Three super Bowls,
one super Bowl MVP, and it's great. Senior man, You've
always been so good for us.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
You guys are awesome. You guys, this is awesome. How fun?
Is this?

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Not bad?

Speaker 3 (16:20):
New Orleans?

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Catch Julian super Bowl pregame coverage starts at one pm Eastern.
Quite a day on Fox. Take a break live in
the Crescent City, return off for this.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
at noon. Easter not a em Pacific.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
Welcome back to New Orleans. You know, Jay Mack and
I went out for lunch yesterday. Both of us are
flying tomorrow in the morning, very early. So I'm trying to,
as his mentor, push him past his comfort zone tonight
and maybe stay out. But you know, in New Orleans,
as we say, eleven pm turns the three am very quickly.

(17:00):
It's the crawfish, the Jumbalaya. You look up and it's like,
where did the knight become morning? With that, here's j.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Mack with a new No No turn on the news.
This is the Herdline News.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
All right, let's start with Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 6 (17:16):
The superstar had an incredible first season in Philly, fell
just one hundred and one yards short of Eric Dickerson's
regular season rushing record. Despite not getting that, saque is
only thirty yards shy of breaking Terrell Davis remember that
guy his single season record of twenty four hundred and
seventy six rushing yards that happened in nineteen ninety eight,

(17:37):
and the Hall of Famers spoke to the potential of
the record breaking moment.

Speaker 7 (17:42):
It's not if I'd rather, I want him to, but
if somebody's going to break it, it couldn't happen, you know,
to a better guy man, a better athlete, better better person.
Excited for him, and you know his journey and where
he was last year. Now he gets a chance to
be in a postseason, one game away from winning a
Super Bowl. Man, So you're going to break it, obviously.

(18:02):
I mean, he's only twenty nine yards away from it.
So he'll break it, but they'll put me second or third.
That's still pretty cool, ilieve that.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Here's the thing, So at Penn State, he did not
have good old lines and was amazing with the Giants.
He did not have good old lines and was really good.
And you know who he reminds me of a little bit,
I'll tell you Joe Burrow. So Joe Burrow has been
excellent in Cincinnati with buy and large, bad old lines,

(18:30):
chief ownership and roster's not as good as Pittsburgh since
and Baltimore and sometimes Cleveland. I always when I watch Saquon,
I think, what we know, Saquon was great before Philly,
But what if you put Joe Burrow behind Detroit's offensive
line or Phillies. So I think what it proves is
if you're great at something and you'll work really, really hard,

(18:52):
you may not get it your first three or four
years out of college, or you may not get it
threw your years out of height, But eventually great players
Walter Payton eventually got a great Bears team eventually, you
know what I mean, Like eventually Christian McCaffrey got is
Kyle Shanahan and the Niners. And I do think if
you stay upright and healthy long enough, the great players,

(19:16):
they'll find their way to the right organization. He would
have been cheated if we never saw him behind a
great old line because this that Walter Payton played behind
some bad ones, but eventually he got a team that
was worthy of Walter Payton, and I feel like the
Eagles are worthy of an all time player.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
Do you remember the narrative around John Elway before Terrell
Davia showed up. It was he can't win the big
game try and it was getting blasted in Super Bowls
by like thirty Yeah, and then Terrell Davis shows up
and he finally got help.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
I remember that last Super Bowl Jalen Hurts against the Chiefs.
It felt like Jalen Hurts against the world.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Didn't this He was passing.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
I think he had seventy rushing yards.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
He was heroic. Now he can lean on Saquon. It's
another reason I like the Eagles in this game.

Speaker 5 (19:58):
Colin Saquon Barkley, Are you kidding me? I can't wait
till he breaks the record. Next story is I'm gonna
have to cut tark calling him your Patriots. Remember they
went four and thirteen.

Speaker 6 (20:07):
They dumped their coach, but they have Drake May. They
added Mike Brabel and get this. Ian Rappaport NFL Network
talked about how May's reputation has continued to grow.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Drake May in.

Speaker 8 (20:21):
The NFL has a little bit of like a mythical reputation.
He was the guy everybody wanted in the draft, right
like it was Caleb Jaydon Daniels, and everybody wanted Drake Man.

Speaker 5 (20:33):
Everyone tried to trade up for him.

Speaker 8 (20:35):
I think it was like, we're gonna have to get
our like socks knocked off to trade this guy. And
then he went out and played with a not good
team without great talent, with an offensive line that should
be talented and really looked not very good receivers that
were not very good except for maybe a couple or one,
and he looked good.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Yeah, I think he's really good. For the record, who
did I picked as a surprise team in the NFL
that ses? I know?

Speaker 3 (21:00):
I know.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
Let me back up a little bit. So you know,
Caleb Williams statistically had a better year than May. But
when you look at what Caleb.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
Had colin talent wise, and how he was afraid to
make a mistake.

Speaker 5 (21:11):
But remember, Drake May had a I think a better season.

Speaker 6 (21:13):
You could argue a better season as a rookie with
working with less than Caleb willis well.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
I mean, how about Jayden Daniels, who worked with outside
of Terry McLaurin, maybe less than New England the.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Genius.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
I love clip King Grey Listen. The great thing about
that draft Caleb can play. Jaden's a home run. Drake
May looks like he could be Michael Pennix bow Nicks
at a high level for a rookie. I think Pennix
and JJ McCarthy are both franchise players. We could have
a what is it a five for five we had

(21:47):
now that the Herbert Tua Hurts Burrow class loaded. But
I mean this is the third quarterback class in about
I don't know if it's six year or seven years.
We may get like four starters, high end starters at.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
JJ McCarthy obviously, well I think I think he's gonna
be the starter, right and yeah, yeah, yeah right.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Final story, Colin is the Bengals. They have three core
players we're going to get paid this offseason, Jamar Chase
T Higgins and Trey Hendrickson. Joe Burrow has not shied
away from direct messaging to the Cincinnati front office about
keeping their great players in town, and he doubled down
yesterday with the Breakfast Ball Crew.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Yeah I do.

Speaker 9 (22:28):
I do you know we have the cap sos to
get it done? And I know you know I want
to make it happen. Everybody involved, Trey t Jamar, Mike Gee,
we all want to stay together. And so when you
have guys that are motivated like that, I think you
know you can get those things up.

Speaker 4 (22:43):
So they said, hey, we need you to restructure and
something you consider not knowing what the numbers are, you
belong to least have that type of conversation to keep
the core guys together.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Of course, you know, here's what's interesting. There is sort
of a little bit of a pivot by the NFL.
A lot of the top and Kansas City believes this.
The Rams believe this. Spend your money on offense, mostly
outside of a great defensive lineman Chris Jones, Max Crosby,

(23:13):
draft your defense, keep your defense young, fast, a little
raw like Kansas City, but eventually move off defensive players
to pay for the left tackle, the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
The weapons.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
So if Cincinnati is going to make a choice on
where to put the money, I am all for. It's
very hard to carry an elite quarterback and two elite receivers.
But I will say this, most of the top front
offices like Philadelphia right now, they got two rookies Jalen Carter,
Noah Smith. They got They're spending a lot of money

(23:47):
on offense, they got some steals on defense. They got
five guys playing on defense. They're not paying yet. I
think that's the future of the league. Pay your stars,
your left tackle, your weapons, draft defense, Pay Jalen Carter,
Hendrickson in Cincinnati, Max Crossby, pay the TJ. Watt You
had to hit those picks, well no, but once you

(24:08):
hit him, you pay one great front four front five player.
That's it. Otherwise you just draft like crazy.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
So if you're T Higgins, do you want to stay
with Burrow or do you want to just go to
whoever's paying.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
You the most? No, Burrow, what's wrong with chasing some money?

Speaker 1 (24:21):
I mean, how did Devonte Adams do leaving Aaron in
Green Bay?

Speaker 6 (24:24):
He was enjoying. He was rolling around in a bathtub
full of money. He was enjoying it. The losing on right,
he was rolling around in a bathtub of elms.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
J Mack with the News, Well that's the news, and
thanks for stopping by. It's the herd line.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
It is always interesting to talk about that like, if
you're a wide receiver, I think how good Larry Fitzgerald was,
But Larry Fitzgerald was better the better quarterback he had. Right,
a receiver is to some degree beholden to a left
tackle and a quarterback and a coordinator. And I mean, listen,
everybody wants to get paid. I've always said in my business,

(25:03):
make sure the management's right. You don't want to be
a really expensive chandelier in an empty mansion, Like make
sure make sure it's right T Higgins, and I want
to see him get paid. Not only do I get
Joe Burrow, not only do I get an offensive coach,
but I get Jamar Chase, who's gonna draw more double teams.
So the reality for T Higgins, he made me a

(25:25):
number two that is a perfect number two situation. Like
Davonte Smith, I got an offensive coach. I've got a
running game in Saquon Barkley where the safeties can't cheat.
I've got aj Brown on the other side, and I
have an experienced quarterback in Jalen Hurts. So here, Davonte Smith, eventually,

(25:45):
I'm taking less money to stay in Philadelphia. You can
make all the money in the world and go play
for the Saints or play for the Panthers and get lost.

Speaker 5 (25:53):
Well, what if the Chargers called Jim harbust Is.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Hey, that's different. Hey, we want you Herbert. It's a
fair question. But I get Herbert and hardball. Two good
tackles at McConkie, a very good number two. So I
think the Chargers are a place I would go to.
I would leave Burrow, but I want at least Herbert.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
Yeah, you're not going to like a bottom tier quarterback.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Receivers are Listen, running backs are somewhat dependent on an
O line.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Somewhat.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
I mean Christian McCaffrey was great in Carolina. Two Receivers
are very dependent on a wide on a quarterback in
the left tackle.

Speaker 5 (26:24):
Now, you were talking to a quarterback here earlier. I
won't say the name if you want to mention, but
he's sure as heck. Could use T Higgins where he's playing.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
I did talk to a quarterback this morning. I think
T Higgins is the best number two receiver in the league.
Jordan Addison's really good.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
Yeah, he could still be a good number one. We
don't know.

Speaker 6 (26:40):
I mean, there's a chance he could still be a
good number one. Big body receiver.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Tuka was a two that this year became a one,
so he's no longer a two. Well, all right, we're
in the Crescent hitting in New Orleans. J Mack had
a hell of a year picking games. He doesn't agree
with me much, and he certainly doesn't agree with me
in this one. I think we'll all find out next.

Speaker 2 (27:09):

Speaker 1 (28:13):
We are ready for the gumbo of game time headlines
with jamac What would super Bowl Week be without closing
out a segment? How long we've been doing this about?

Speaker 5 (28:28):
I think this is year seven.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
I think because you were doing this on the show before. Yes,
you were in the chair. Yeah, so we were doing
this for several years. It was it was crushing.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
It was just such a powerful segment that you're like,
we gotta bring this on.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Every week, reshaping the industry, much like Mahomes has done
to the NFL. Oh, all right, tomorrows headlines today? Super
Bowl fifty nine, what's gonna be the headline?

Speaker 6 (28:53):
All right, let's get the pick out of the way early, Colin.
You know I've been on the Eagles all season. I've
been I'm a Chiefs hater. The headline well be tush, shush,
be quiet about the Chiefs three p.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
The Eagles coin.

Speaker 6 (29:07):
Just like last year when I picked the better team,
I'm going with the better team again.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Now it didn't quite work out last year.

Speaker 6 (29:13):
Niners did lead ten to nothing and then kind of
collapse a little bit. Special teams missque and they blow
it in overtime. I don't see the Eagles doing that.
And Colin I have legit concerns about the Chiefs offense
having success against his Eagles defense.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
I know you don't.

Speaker 6 (29:25):
And you look at some of these numbers from Mitchell,
the rookie cornerback, I mean hel Terry McLaurin had to
head one catch in the NFC Championship game to get
the games against Pooka.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Pooka had two catches.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
He can't.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
Mitchell is a lockdown guy. I think Patrick Mahomes is
gonna have to attack Darius Slay, who can make big plays.
And I just I don't see the Chiefs offense having
a ton of success. I love this Eagles defense. I'm
going thirty one to nineteen. I know it's a double
digit win. Little alt spread action if you're into it.
I just think this is a really good Eagles team.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
I think the best.

Speaker 6 (29:58):
Offensive line in the league. Man handles Chris Jones and company.
And I see that look on your face. Eagles beat
the Chiefs, no three peat?

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Colin sounds like you're betting with your heart. Tomorrow's headlines today,
Who's gonna be the MVP of Super Bowl fifty nine?
All right?

Speaker 6 (30:15):
You know I love to fade narratives. The media is
all over a certain player.

Speaker 5 (30:19):
Well, he's not that good, He's not a top five guy.

Speaker 6 (30:22):
The headline for MVP, well, pte squat goals, quarterback puts
bros on his back.

Speaker 5 (30:29):
Give me Jalen Hurts is the MVP.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
I know.

Speaker 6 (30:31):
Listen, Saquon's gonna have a good game. I did bet
some Saquon props, but I think Hurts is gonna be
the guy. And the narrative Colin around Hurts is weird.
He had one three hundred yard game this season?

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Is he that good?

Speaker 5 (30:41):
He had two games over two hundred and fifty yards?
That's it? How good is he?

Speaker 6 (30:45):
But he's playing to the team's strengths. But this is
where things I think will change. Spagnolo he's gonna cook
up something to slow Saquon Barkley. Nobody's been able to
do that this season. He's having an unbelievable year. I
think hirts can deliver and I just look at that
last Super.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
Bowl against the Chiefs, Colin. He was unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (31:01):
You and I would agree best player on the field
last Super Bowl with Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
It was very good.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
And I know he had the fumbles, scoop and score.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
But last thirteen games that he started and finished thirty
three touchdowns one turnover for Jalen Hurts. The guy is
underrated if that's possible, and I think he.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
Captures the MVP. I think you can get him at
like plus three seventy or something like that.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
All Right, So if you think it's thirty one nineteen
tomorrow's headlines today, what in the world is the headline
for the Chiefs.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
Yeah, listen, I know Kansas City Chiefs fans are all
over the town.

Speaker 5 (31:33):
We see a lot of them in here in the background.
It's gonna be a tough one.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
The headline will be acid refluck, Zebra's leave shelf, Chiefs
stomach shirting.

Speaker 5 (31:44):
Listen.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
One of the big stories in the postseason has been
the Kansas City Chiefs and the refs.

Speaker 5 (31:49):
Nobody likes that. We don't like talking about the rest.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
You hate it?

Speaker 5 (31:52):
Okay, I don't think the refs will be a huge
story here. And if you look at the.

Speaker 6 (31:56):
Last two Super Bowls, Colin, Kansas City's offensive line has
not been called for one.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
Holding up one in the last two Super Bowls.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
But this will be this is your weakest offensive line,
I believe since that Tampa Super Bowl and the Eagles
defensive line I believe has a big edge. I do
think Tony's gonna have to probably move around. I don't
think you can keep him a left tackle. Maybe kick
him back inside to double Carter and Davis. I do
think we're gonna see some issues and maybe the Chiefs
fans will be like, hey, wh're the rest? I thought
we had him in the back pocket. Obviously we're having

(32:25):
some fun here go Eagles.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Okay, what will be the headline then for Andy Reid?
Tomorrow's headlines today? If the Chiefs lose, what's gonna be
the headline for Andy Reid after the loss?

Speaker 6 (32:39):
You know, Reid has come out and said I'm coming
back no matter what.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
You know, we kind of sort of believe him, right,
Andy Reid? Why would he lie to us?

Speaker 6 (32:46):
The headline for Andy Reid will be the read hot
shitty Peppers.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
Andy keeps the band together.

Speaker 6 (32:53):
I don't think he's going anywhere. You and I agree, Yeah,
what he's a sixty six turning sixty seven here in March,
But he's youthful.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
He's a youthful.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
Sixty six, if that's such a thing. And you see
Belichick's doing his new thing in college football, now, I
don't see Reid doing that. He's he's too good of
a coach to just walk.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Away, creative, to just sit on a rocking chair.

Speaker 5 (33:10):
I mean, he's got Patrick Mahomes in his prime.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Now.

Speaker 6 (33:13):
You know, there's some other players that could be moving on,
but I think Reid sticks around. And he's a great guy,
great ambassador for the NFL.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
So Andy Reid will be sticking around.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Yeah, there are dialing up x's and o's for Mahomes. Beats,
crossword puzzles come on. Of course, if you're still having
fun and being paid, well, keep doing what you're doing.
All right, For a coach that I don't get his methodology,
but he wins tomorrow's headlines. Today, Nick Siriani has to

(33:42):
be held back often from his own fans. What's the
headline if.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
He had a much maligned year.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
I don't know if any show beat up Sirianni the
way we did, and he's had some missteps. However, the
headline for Nick Sirianni will be sorry, not Sirianni.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
Nick makes no apology, and I think.

Speaker 6 (34:01):
With a Super Bowl win, Colin, we remember Andy Reid's
amazing run in Philly.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
Andy Reid was known as the guy who could not
win the big game.

Speaker 6 (34:08):
I looked this up one and four in NFC championship games.
Sirianni's back in the Super Bowl, Like, come on, like
this guy's maybe he's a good coach. His methodology doesn't
line up with what we would do and operate.

Speaker 5 (34:19):
But Sirianni wins this and Colin again.

Speaker 6 (34:23):
I go back to Andy Reid, like he had great players,
Donovan mcdabb could not win a Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
Sirianni does it with Jalen Hurts. You is a second
round pick.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
I think we got to start to give him as
props and maybe back off the is he gonna get
fired kind of deal?

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Yeah, I mean, it's I've found through the years, you
can be kind of polarized, that you can be Bill
Parcell's confrontational, you can be a little bit more chill
Tony Dungee. You can beat an offensive coach, Andy Reid,
Sean Paytona, Chuck Noll, Belichick defensive coaches. I think one

(34:59):
thing we I've come to terms with through the years.
I mean, Nick Foles won a Super Bowl. So did
Doug Peterson. There's a lot of different ways to win
Super Bowls now, partly because of who he's dating. There's
a lot of speculation around one. Travis Kelcey. So our
final one Tomorrow's headlines today? What is the headline for

(35:23):
in Super Bowl fifty nine for Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 6 (35:26):
You know, like I said earlier, Kelsey coming off his
worst playoff game. I think he had two catches, wasn't
a factor in the offense, and it didn't matter. They
still took down the Bills. The headline for Travis Kelcey
will be we are never ever retiring.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
Ever.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
I don't see Travis Kelsey going anywhere. I mean, I
think he leads the league in commercials or he's up there.
He's just making money, he's dating Taylor Swift.

Speaker 5 (35:48):
He's got a great life. And I don't want to
criticize his regular season.

Speaker 6 (35:52):
But he kind of slept walked through it. He was
not amazing, putting up like massive.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
So they didn't even play well against Houston.

Speaker 5 (35:57):
He did not well.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
He was good, he was good.

Speaker 5 (36:00):
He was not just amazing all season. But again, like
they're now playing for super Bowls. You heard Edelman say,
hey man, I don't want to catch Montana. I want
to catch Jordan.

Speaker 6 (36:07):
I think Travis Kelcey just think Super Bowls were going
to the playoffs every year?

Speaker 5 (36:11):
Why would I retire?

Speaker 6 (36:12):
And I just don't see it happening. You keep Read,
you keep Kelsey, you keep Mahomes. They got Chris Jones
locked in and then you just basically cycle through everyone else.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Right, you got the.

Speaker 6 (36:20):
Offensive line the Chiefs. You know, I note some guys
here at our network are very happy about it. Chiefs
are built to not go anywhere for the next five years.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
I don't see it.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Well, you know, I do think so I like Kansas
City close high scoring, Michael Irvin said, low scoring, You
like Philadelphia in kind of a Route.

Speaker 6 (36:40):
Twelve, A route I mean, you can get a late
touchdown to pull away, and boy, they get that late touchdown.

Speaker 5 (36:45):
What do we wear Monday on the show? Eagles Green?

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yeah. The only way I see Kansas City getting handled
is Philadelphia is not as effective coming from behind.

Speaker 7 (37:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
So I And remember earlier this year when Philadelphia really
struggled in the first quarter. It was bizarre. They couldn't
score the first quarter. They've gotten over that. They're able
to find their rhythm more quickly if Philadelphia scores first
and makes a hold. And that's that's where I think.
You get into a situation where if I have the

(37:26):
better roster and a lead, and I've kind of seized
control of the tempo, I think Philadelphia I wonder, like
I will say, the one thing where I would worry
if I'm Philadelphia is Jalen Carter ready to go. He's
been sick all week and he's an absolute disrupt you

(37:46):
if Jalen Carter is not ready to go. And the
other thing that scares me about Philadelphia really good rookie
corners like this is a I mean, you talk You
talked to veteran players who have been to Super Bowls
and they'll tell you it's different. There are you get,
you get nervous and warm ups.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
Mahome's coming after him.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
You're talking about Mitchell played at Toledo. Guys will play
at Toledo all of a sudden. Yeah, that's the biggest
game in America in the last twelve months. It is
a big Spotlet do you bite on a route? Are
you trying to make a play? Are you apprehensive? So
I can see Andy Reid thinking I got rookie corners.
I'm gonna make him think I'm gonna slow them down.

(38:23):
I'm gonna And here's the thing with Andy and I
go back to this, Andy Reid with extra time to prepare,
is thirty three and seven. I can't remember a loss
not bad. That is an insane That is a Nick
Saban in his prime in the sec number.

Speaker 6 (38:38):
So let me go back to the last meeting they
had in the Super Bowl. The Eagles did were not
this good.

Speaker 5 (38:43):
Of a team back then. I think we would agree. Yeah,
the Chiefs were better than they are now. Right, they had.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Steed, they weren't as good defense. They weren't as good defensively.
I mean they had Sneath, but they were really young
that defense. Remember the audio clip that came out where
you had Chiefs players saying, we won a Super Bowl
we didn't even know the scheme. I think this is
a much more mature, sophisticated defensive roster that not only
knows the scheme, is arguably the best situational defense in

(39:10):
the entire league. It's been a great week in New Orleans.
Super Bowl fifty nine, Thanks so much, See you next week.
