(00:21):
my favorite guys, we don't get it much to Paul
Piercy's busy's on speak after us nineteen years in the NBA.
All right, let's I don't mean to create controversy, but Joe,
Missoula and Tatum and I the whole thing about a
flagrant foul, give me a break. That's kind of genital.
But he fell on his wrist and he was in
pain and Missoula called off the trainer. What do you

(00:43):
make of that? Man?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Let me tell you something about Joe. He's a no
nonsense type of coach. You know, like every time I
go to Boston, he's like, Paul, let's go, let's go
do some MMA training like he likes he's a fighter.
Last year, before the season, you know, he brought in
a motivational speakers you know it was maybe a former player,
a coach or something like that he brought you know,
he brought in. He brought in a Navy seal he did.

(01:07):
I was there. I was there, and he was doing
activities with the Navy seal like and it was just like,
that's who Joe is. That's who Joe is. When when
I saw it, he was like, get up, Like that's
the type of mentality he's installed in this team.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
You gotta play hurt in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Let's go. You got to like, let's go. And then
when I looked at it, the fall wasn't that bad,
So you know, it wasn't It didn't look that bad
when he fail, it looked like a normal type of fall.
Thank god it was only his wrist. Yeah, and he'll
be fine. But I love Joe. I love the mentality
he installs in this ball club. And you can just
see it so like, man, you don't need to run
over there for all of that.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
That's how his culture is toughness, toughness because they got
enough guys that can shoot threes. He wants to create toughness.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
In this off time. He don't go to the golf course.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
He goes mm A, that's him. Sometimes I wish Westbrook
could play, could shift down something into a second or
a third gear, but that's not how Russell Westbrook places.
Did you ever play can? I thought Russell was so
valuable to Denver. He just gives him great energy and
he's a great rebounder for a sis. You ever played

(02:09):
with a guy like that that kind of has one gear,
but it's contagious the way he plays well.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, Kevin Gardner, Yeah, one gear. I mean he plays
at the playoff intensity during the eighty two game regular season.
That's so Russ is. And so that's what was lacking
from in the Denver and their squad, because I feel
like the Denfer team lacks some leadership that they lost
when they lost KCP and you know, Jeff Green and

(02:37):
all the other veterans they had doing their coach and
the coach exactly. But like Russ, I can say this,
I bet you Russ probably led to the locker room
meeting after coach got fired and I was like, look, guys,
our gold stays the same. He's that type of person
like we're here. I came here to help y'all win
another championship. Whereas I don't know you know which jokers

(02:58):
mentality or who else is in that, But I know
for sure that Russ said something in that locker room
and it shows on the court his leadership.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah. The you know, it's funny watching Houston Warriors clearly said,
don't give him any transition points, make them beat us
in the half court. And again, I mean, Thompson Jalen
Green are talented, but Jalen's kind of one of those guys.
It's like, well, he's not a point guard, he's not
a great jump shooter, he's a great athlete. I honestly

(03:30):
picked the Rockets in seven in the series six or seven,
and after that game, I was like, I don't know
if the Rockets are good enough in a half court.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
No, that's the that's their achilles of right there. They
can't really score. They're built on defense. Yeah, you know,
that's what he made his team when he was in Boston,
top tier defense. That's what got them the number two
see uh in the West and so and they're young,
you know what I'm saying. They built on their young stars.
They have some veterans around them, but their stars are
young and so have you noticed that around these you

(04:00):
got these young stars with these veteran players to where
it's like they're playing against these veteran teams that know
how to win, and so late in the game, it
just seems like everybody's crumbling these young teams.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Well, I mean the Warriors, every time down offensively it
ran through a Butler Curry and everybody on the floor
in the organization knew it. I felt like Houston was
kind of like shengoon or cross your fingers. They almost
got panicked.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Well, they know who they are Golden State, right, we
don't know who the Rockets are. They're still learning who
they are because there's regular season, there's playoffs. You got
to know when you get into the playoffs, we can
depend on this, you know what I'm saying. And they're
still learning one another that they're like, uh, we know
Samguon is good, but who can we trust?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Who I don't trust anybody else, That's.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
What I'm saying. And that's where you learn in the
playoffs who you can trust, because in the regular season
you can get away with all of that whatever you're doing,
but the playoffs is a different mosque.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Well. Depth and athleticism, yeah, and youth wins a lot
of games in the regular season, a lot. You play hard,
you win. Yeah. Are you more impressed with Minnesota or
more disappointed in the Lakers?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
I think I'm more impressed with Minnesota, and I'll tell
you why. I call it. But a man, a man's
game has matured so incredible.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
You can see the work like, yes.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I mean he's like people are like, why are you
selling it for threes? But he's knocking them down at
a high rate. Now he's making his teammates better. That's
even more scary because now if he's gonna be out
here understanding what to give the game, that's that's dangerous
because when I was as a player of me, when
I came into a game, it got to the point
where I learned like, what does the game need today?

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Oh? Okay, and you feel it.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Out and be like, oh, and that's what I saw
from m man. You know what, I maybe don't have
to go for thirty today, let me make them better.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
So your first year you didn't get it.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
It took me a while to get it. It took
me a while to get it because you know, I
was a score Deluxe and so it was just like,
you know, what do I have to do to make
like today, they need my defensive rebounding and my playmaking.
And then if I'm there down the stretch, I can
make some big shots, but I don't have to have
a mentality of going like I have to get thirty
for us to win. He understands that now at a
young age, and it looks so beautiful to watch. And

(06:14):
the scary part about it is like, how do you
make this adjustment? Now? Do you stay home on the shooters? Oh, well,
he's good enough to go out there and get you
forty if you open up those lanes now and win
that way. So I don't know this is going to
It's gonna be interesting to see what adjustments are for
the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Listen, I thought Chris Finch and the te Wolves had
a better plan. Yes, I mean nothing against JJ, but
it was his first playoff coaching, right, I didn't know
what the Lakers offensive plan was.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
No, it was just get the ball to Luca bron and.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yes, and look only I one assist, so he wouldn't
get it at anybody else.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
And so that's right. They was like, hey, he's gonna
have to go for forty, but we're not gonna let
these other guys have big games, our role players, Jackson, Vincent,
all these other guys, you know, even Austin Reeves. We're
gonna limit those guys. When they play well, the Lakers
usually win, right, So.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
You know it's funny. I watched the Knicks. It was
such a playoff game. They Detroit plays great and then
all of a sudden, New York's like, all right, bro,
twenty one nothing run?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah that was crazy.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
What do you make? I know what every Knicks player is,
and I think I know what Carl Anthony town is.
I've seen him play live three or four times. He
is so talented offensively, they may have to move off him.
How do players view Carl Anthony Towns.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
I think they view him as an offensive talent, you know,
definitely an all star in this league, and you know
those are hard to come by, you know, so still learning,
but I saw some growth in this game yesterday was
yesterday or the other day like because he's just known
as just a head down shooter score right, you know,

(07:55):
doesn't see the double teams, doesn't have a high IQ,
you know, but I saw, like, man, he looked like
he's learning a little bit more he's making extra plays,
these extra passes that I saw that I didn't see
him make over the years. And yeah, I mean he
can see it now, he can see it now. I
mean it was just a one dimensional player. But if

(08:16):
he's going well round his game and give the effort
on the defensive end and give them some grit inside,
they're gonna be tough.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
I want to I want you to talk about take
some time, go back to your first playoff game. So,
and I've said this before, most human beings aren't built
to be six eleven. So to ask a six to
eleven guy carrying two forty five, two fifty five, hey,
play hard eighty two games. I mean I'm exhausted. If
I fly from Chicago to LA the next time, I'm exhausted. Yeah,

(08:42):
you guys are burning seventy two hundred calories, you're getting
your bang around, your bodies are just you're just big guys.
NFL's got one game a week. Baseball guys sit in
a town for five days when they play basketball. Hockey guys,
let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go. And at
least in hockey, the ice helps you move. So I
always said, NBA guys, you're not getting NFL effort every

(09:04):
Tuesday in Orlando. Go to your first playoff game as
a pro. Were you shocked by the intensity of it?

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I wasn't shocked, because you don't know what it's about
until you're in it. You know. You know what prepared
me for this type of intensit because I played high
level in college Kansas, big games, big games every night,
so I kind of knew, but you don't really know
until you there there. But I had a sense of
urgency once I played my first playoff game and I
understood that, like, look, these you can't waste possessions no more.

(09:37):
That's that's the name of the playoffs. You can't have
wasted possessions.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
That's what Houston had.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Too many wasted possessions. Same thing with the Clippers. Too
many wasted and you have to play with a sense
of urgency. So I knew that coming in. And you know,
we had a fiery coach at the time, Patino O'Brien
at the time who kind of like and Antoine, you know,
so that we were like mentally for repair, but you
never really repaired until you get out there. After like

(10:03):
the first couple of minutes. You know, you know that
you're gonna have to raise your tensity and you gotta
have awareness, and you gotta play with a sensor urgency
like this is the last possession, every single play.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Do you know your first playoff game? Do you remember it?
It was against six again, sister.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
I think got about thirty thirty and ten something like.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
That at thirty one, eleven rebounds, three assists, four steels.
Who are you, garden man?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
I was guarding everybody McKee Snow. I was guarding Snow
a lot.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Is that the finals team?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (10:33):
The next year Verson Snow, Yes, maybe the worst team
ever to.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Cam Bae Matombo. Yes, yes, yeah, we played together. And
then the next year after they went to the finals.
So we made it. My fourth year, we made it
to the playoffs. We went straight to the Eastern Conference
finals too. I thought we were gonna I thought we
were gonna play the Lakers. That year. We went up
two to one against Jersey and then j Kid happened.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, he had a lot.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
He happened a lot.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Paul Pierce. So as we look at everything you've seen,
I think we all look at Oklahoma City and we
all know they have a good GM and a good coach,
and we know SGA is good. A lot of people,
myself included, are like, are they don't win road games?
They're really young to beat a team by what they
be my fifty. When you see OKC, what do you see?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I see a team that looked like they thought they
should have won the title last year. They look like
they want to send a message to the rest of
the league because you know, they were the number one
seed last year. They had a number one seed. They
don't get no respect. They're not on national television every
day and they don't get the bright lights and all
of that. So they have a bunch of young dudes

(11:49):
who are looking to earn their respect.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
They're a feisty team.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Yeah, they're very feisty, and they look they know that
nobody because we go on these shows and be like,
who's coming out of West. Well, Malahoma City won the
West by fourteen fifteen games and the money's still making right.
You know, everybody's like, well, the Lakers go to state
and they like yesterday they was like, y'all better start
saying our name or are we gonna make y'all say it?

Speaker 1 (12:13):
I mean the thing about and Boston did this last
year where Boston had a lot of nights. Last year
they won the title, but they blew people out and
oftentimes the Celtics on the road would go on the
road face a playoff team, blow them out. Oklahoma City
won by sixteen A lot, yeah, a lot, a lot,
a lot. Paul Pierce almost twenty years in the NBA.
Great stuff as well as Paul, We appreciate it. He's

Speaker 1 (13:43):
And here is Jordan with the news.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
No, no tarn on the news. This is the herd
Line News. Great having truth in studio. Speaking of Buckets,
Jana's had a big performance in Game one, putting up
thirty six and twelve. Yeah, but Colin, it was enough
as the Pacers took down the Bucks one's seventeen ninety
eight to take the series lead. Pascal Siakam led the

(14:06):
way for Indy with twenty five and seven.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
He's a great player. He doesn't get any love. Coome's
a great player, great player.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
Multiple time All Star defense Indiana, by the way, was
up as many as twenty eight. Gianna said after the game,
we didn't have enough urgency going into game two. Hopefully
we could change that. One really interesting side note actually
didn't even happen on the court. Damian Lillard and Tyrese
Halliburton got into a little back and forth dame from
the bench. Colin ends up getting tecked up, which you

(14:36):
almost never see. He was not playing. Is John with Halliburton,
fellow All Star, and then he gets a t I
can't wait to see day back in this series, him
and Halliburton. Regardless of who wins this series, that's gonna
be primetime entertainment.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Yeah. I just think the Pacers are by pick the
Pacers in six. I just think they're better. I think
they're more athletic. I think they're a better team. And
Siakam is such a good player. You know, there's these
guys in the NBA Bam out of Bayou's a little
bit like this that they their games maybe aren't as
memorable or you know, they're involved in a trade and

(15:11):
they get they just don't get they're not headliners. But
like Bam out of Bayou's a really good player. Seahawkam's
a really really good player. He is, And I don't
know who is you know, Evan Mobley got a little
Siakam in it maybe, But you look at Indian Allen,
I'm Jared Allen. I think Indiana's absolutely with or without Dame,

(15:33):
Indiana's the better team.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
Kylen Clark was in attendance, by the way, well he
got a big ovation, well deserved. That was pretty cool.
Excited for that series regardless. Can't wait to see Dame
back in the lineup. Sticking with the NBA, the Knicks
hosted Detroit. Look at Jalen Brunson Saturday. Things weren't looking
good for New York, down by eight in the fourth,
until a twenty one nothing to run flip the momentum

(15:56):
to help New York win Game one. Jalen Brunson was
ice cold in the first half, but he heated up
in a major way in the second half, finishing with
a game high thirty four receeeds. Campaign hit a big trip.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
It was just it was just like, you know, Detroit
had some veterans on the floor, but it was it
was like an easy twenty one nothing spert, Yeah, I
mean it was a lot open threes, a lot open looks.
It was like Detroit gave you everything they had. They're
just not next year they'll win a series. They're not
ready to win a series.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
They feel to me like a year behind Orlando. They're
on the way, yeah, but they're not there. They have
not won a playoff game Detroit game since two thousand
and eight.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
But they got the right coach, they got the right
star in Kate Cunningham. They'll be fine, but it is
a baby step league.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Yeah, Kate was a little bit cold, got into a rhythm,
was decent. I think he'll be better in this series.
Still feels like New York their experience with that duo
Runton and Kat too much to handle. Speaking of great
young players to the NFL, where Jaden Daniels is coming
off and credible rookie season, leading the Commanders to the
NFC Championship and taking home offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

(17:07):
In a recent interview, Jaden talked about his approach for
year two and said, quote, last year was last year.
That's great, but it's a whole new year now. I
still got to go out there and I've got to
prove myself to my teammates the organization each and every
day that I'm getting better. End quote. Now, the reason
I bring this up, Jaden Daniels actually just had this

(17:27):
is not hyperbole, the single greatest rookie season in NFL history,
first across the board in every major statistical category. You
see it there, which jumps out to me. Fourteen wins,
and then obviously the total touchdowns thirty seven. Colin, we
talked a lot about culture. You know what helps culture winning?
You know what helps winning great quarterback play. Jada Daniels

(17:48):
is exactly that.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah, and in a division with Philadelphia, it's pretty obvious
what they have to do to get better. Draft O
line and D line help. You are not beating Philadelphia.
And this is also a cold what conference? Philly, Washington,
New York. Okay, so it's a cold weather conference. What
does that mean? Vertical passing games have limitations. That's why
Debo fits. Yeah, you know Deebo can do underneath stuff,

(18:12):
jet sweep stuff. Can you can put them out of
the backfield. Deebo's are really smart. Like these Northern conferences,
you're not throwing the ball down the field a lot.
In December and January. So I think Washington just got
to get more physical, bigger upfront, more depth, and they'll
just be fine. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Going back to Cliff Kingsbury, we talked about it last week,
not wanting to leave Washington because he didn't want to
leave Jaden Daniels to pursue New Orleans. They got Dan Quinn,
they got a good GM Adam Peters. Washington, I think
maybe you get a tight end as well, maybe one
more weapon. But to your point, offensive defensive line is
the key to the UFL where the Renegades escape to
Nila to nail Brighter to improve to three and one.

(18:49):
With the BattleHawks looking to tie the game from the
three yard line in the closing seconds, jay Nay Harris
picked it up and took it to the house for
a touchdown to seal the win. Colin Look ninety nine
yards pick six. The Renegades defeat the battle Hawks like
a calling stuff.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Jordan with the news.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
That's the news, and thanks for stopping by the herd
Line news.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Yeah, this is uh, this is one of the more
eventful weeks. So basically I made a decision. I was
talking to Ann and I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna be
uh making soup and uh so I went on like
four different walks yesterday in between games. I'm like, oh,
I got get out of the house. I can't just
sit on the couch all day. And made myself some food.
And this weekend, these back to back weekends, the first

(19:35):
weekend of NBA Playoff basketball and the FIR and the
NFL Draft in April late April are great for me.
Are great weekends. They're they're the first weekends. March Madness
has got a feel, so you get it. You get
this in March, the first weekend of March Madness. But
I had so much fun sitting around just sitting watching

(19:56):
great basketball and this upcoming week What makes the draft
so much fun is, you know, it's the trade component.
So like like most NFL teams, I mean, Jimmy Johnson
was the first guy to make a massive trade in
the NFL when he made that move, that Herschel Walker
Vikings trade. The Giants had only made one trade as

(20:17):
a franchise. So the teams in this league, they're really
good teams like Philadelphia, they're risk takers, they make moves.
The teams that have what I would call more frugal
and conservative ownership. Cincinnati doesn't make a lot of moves,
so I'm really interested. You know, Belichick may not have

(20:39):
done it in the first round. Belichick made a lot
of moves over the course. He'd have a guy he'd target,
he'd move up to get him. He would accumulate draft picks.
You know, Pete Carroll was the guy that if he could,
he would make moves. So what I like about the
draft is you think you have it figured out. I
did my mock draft what I would do if I
was a general manager. I think it likes last Wednesday

(21:01):
or Thursday, and it's funny. It's like buying a powerball ticket.
You're absolutely sure you're gonna win every time. Every time
I buy it, I'm like, let's go buy some jet
skis and golf clubs. I'm winning this puppy. I do
my mock draft, and I'm like, yeah, every single one
of these makes sense. But what happens if now I
have Chador Sanders going three. I don't know what they're
gonna do there. They need a quarterback. They may go

(21:22):
Abdul Carter. But if the Giants trade down, that could
change this whole board, because all of a sudden, teams
that have different needs come up. I do think the
Raiders getting a running back, they may trade down and
get the kid from North Carolina or Ashton genty that
there are certain teams like Tennessee quarterback need, Jaguars struggled

(21:44):
stopping the run, Mason Graham need, Raiders running back need,
Jets tight end they don't. They just don't have tight
end production for several years. That is a need. Bears
along with Montes sweat, edge rusher need. Francisco. You got
to get a tackle to replace Trent Williams within a
year or two. Kneed Cowboys running back kneed most of

(22:07):
this stuff. Atlanta. By the way, at fifteen, I have
them taking Shamar Stewart from Texas A and M. They
just don't have a pass rush. It doesn't seem like
they've had a consistent pass rush for five years. I
tend to be this is not a draft. I mean,
if you look at the positions quarterback, corner, edge tackle,
running back, tight end, receiver, linebacker, running back, there's a

(22:29):
lot of o tackles.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
He'll be a big run.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
But there's a lot of teams with needs and it
just so happens they have good draft picks, and it
just so double happens that there's a player in that position,
Like Miami's got to get a better old line. If
two is your quarterback, you need a good backup quarterback,
which they didn't have, and you need a good left tackle.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
And toront Armsteag just retired. Yes, one couple of notes
here Atlanta. I think look at Mike Green there as well.
Shamar Stewart. Some people think he's a top ten guy.
Some people think he's the second round pick. He's a
really good player, but the production didn't necessarily match the
traits the team to watch here. By the way, someone
told me watch out for San Francisco at eleven. They
don't pick this high ever, so they might be the

(23:12):
type of team that would want to move up to
let's say six or seven.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Well, they also have eleven picks.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
They have a ton of picks, I think second most,
and as a result in the fact that they believe
their roster is really good, they look at as a
fluke that they're at eleven. They might be a team.
Hey we're at eleven. It won't cost us a time
to move up a little bit.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Hey, I could see them taking the running back from
Carolina and saying we love Christian McCaffrey, but what if
we can give him fourteen carries not nineteen.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Yeah, twenty touches not twenty eight.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Yeah. I could see San Francisco say, yeah, we need
offensive tackles. We could do that in the second, third,
and fourth round. You're not going to get Hampton in
the fourth or fifth round. So San Francisco is an
interesting team.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
Yeah, I think, yeah, I think that's that. And then
I think you'll see a massive run of offensive line.
And then I would also look at Tampa if you're
looking for someone to move back, I think the Bucks
could move back. Obviously, not in a tough wie.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
I heard the Rams want to move back.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
The Rams always like picks, and you want more cracks
at it. Less Seed and Sean McVay really good track record.
We talked about last year hitting with Verse, not to
mention Brandon Fisk. They've hit on so many guys Kien
Williams mid round picks. That's the key if you can
get one draft. Look at Seattle in twenty twelve when
they get Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner, kJ Wright, Cam Chanceller,
Richard Sherman. If you can hit one draft, that's the key,

(24:31):
But you've got to have multiple picks. You gotta have
a lot of picks. That's why I think mentioned the
Rams can move back.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Well, the Rams were considered a rebuild team, and the
last two drafts they have hit on every defensive pick.
You don't have to pay those guys for four and
five years, so it's like suddenly the Rams rebuild. You're
like they're a play from the conference championship. I mean,
I think the Rams.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
Bill is a pretty good game.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
No, I mean, if they're at the fifteen yard line
in a snowstorm, a Dome team with a chance to
end up in the NFC Championship against Washington, and I
would have taken the ranks. So it's you hit on
a couple of drafts. That's what's hurt Dallas. It feels
like Dallas's last couple of drafts, they've been pretty good
in the first round, but a lot a lot of

(25:12):
either misses or marginal players, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth round.

Speaker 5 (25:17):
Yeah. And also if you're fiking at Dallas, if you're
Dallas and you've paid the quarterback, you pay the receiver,
you gotta pay Micah Colin. What's the direction of that franchise.
That's another team running back o Marion Hampton. That would
make so much sense. Get back some help in the backfield.
He hasn't had it.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Live in Los Angeles. It's the Hurt.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays
and noone Easter, not a em Pacific.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
So this is interesting. Adam Schefter has a column today,
and I'm going to read you two paragraphs. In the column,
at least one team does not have a first round
grade on any of the quarterbacks in the draft. Any

(26:03):
The general manager of another team said, there are quote
no surefire quarterback solutions unquote, and the top brinted passer
in this class, cam Ward, would be the seventh rated
passer in last year's class. I think I'd push back
on that. The column continues. I don't think it's close,
the general manager said, second paragraph. Some teams and prognosticators

(26:28):
have predicted four quarterbacks to go in Round one. I
think that's lunacy. But there are smart people around the
league who believe there might only be one or two
who go in the top thirty picks. I think cam
Ward and Shador Sanders feel like first round quarterbacks to me.
Jalen Milroe two, mechanical first round Jackson Dart two inconsistent

(26:52):
for my taste in the first round. And I like,
you know, I like Kyle McCord at Syracuse. He's probably
a late second, mid third round guy. So the thing
about cam Ward, so he was a zero star recruit.
Maybe a little smaller, good arm, a little smaller. I
watched him at Washington State and he is small. So
if he looks small in college, he's gonna look even

(27:13):
smaller in the pros. We saw that with Bryce Young.
He's small, He's not ideal. I think he's got a
really good arm. And I think Miami's got good players,
not all world players. They don't have Georgia, Bama, Ohio
State and Michigan Notre Dame talent, they don't. They have
good players. So I think he's a playmaker. I think
he's got some hero ball in him. I think he
would not have gone over Caleb Williams, he would not

(27:34):
have gone over Jayden Daniels. I would not have drafted
him over Drake May. I think I would have drafted
him over JJ McCarthy of Michigan. I think he and
bow Knicks.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
I think Panis goes at him.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
I think Penix goes ahead of I think he's more
electric than bow Knicks. And I think he's a better
thrower than JJ McCarthy. So I don't think he would
be seven but one GM. According to Adam Schefter said
it wasn't necessarily close. So it's interesting now we had.
You know, a guy that I lean on a year
before the draft, Greg Cosel always gives me a Breakden

(28:11):
does this every year he gives me. He sends it
to me a breakdown of the quarterbacks who will go
next year. So like he was telling me about Josh
Allen going into Josh Allen's final year, he goes watch
the kid at Wyoming. He's an insane talent, but he's
wild and out of control, a player that you know.
There are some players like Jalen mill Road Alabama. Great body,

(28:35):
great athlete, great kid, great family, really inconsistent and mechanical.
He's not ready to play now. But if he gave
him Sean mcvavor three years, maybe it's like I like
a lot about mil Row, but you can see when
he throws it, he looks like an athlete throwing a ball.
He doesn't look like a quarterback. He's not real fluid,
and he was very inconsistent. But he is so athletic

(28:57):
and this happens in the NFL that he can run
for first downs a lot of them his first two
years in the league. But I don't think he's ready
to play in the NFL. And he has not shown
an ability to be a great like third down, fourth
down quarterback like Jayden Daniels or a great two minute
drill quarterback. He didn't show that in college. So you know,
I don't think he's ever going to be a great quarterback.

(29:18):
Cam Ward, to me, he's gonna be small, and he's
a little bit of hero ball, but he's got a
big time arm. He's a big time playmaker. And Tennessee,
let's be honest, they've had a lot of Will Levis,
Ryan Tannehill. They just need some pomp. And again, it's

(29:40):
not a division with Herbert Sean Payton, Mahomes and Andy Reid.
It's the AFC South. CJ. Stroud's a mile better right now,
it looks like than anybody else at quarterback.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
Yeah, the problem for Tennessee's the roster Colin is so bare.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
It is so bad.

Speaker 5 (29:55):
I had someone tell me someone I really trust, basically,
this is the worst roster in twenty years. So they
just don't have a lot. Look, they need a position,
They need to upgrade almost every position. So if you're
the Titans and you draft cam Ward one, which we
all expect, you better hit on offensive line, on weaponry
to surround him with a type of talent that he needs.

(30:17):
To me, you go cam Ward one. Then you get
a receiver too, maybe another one three. There's so much there,
Whereas even someone like the Giants, if they go shit
or three, they still have other weapons, They have other pieces.
At least the Titans have none of that.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
That's Mike Greg co Sell liked him. I trust Greg.
Greg liked him, you know, and Greg was funny. Greg
didn't love Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson really. Oh forever,
he kept saying, Colin, he's not as good as you think.
I remember when Trevor Lawrence and Josh Allen were in
and it was Josh Allen early he said this like
five years ago. He goes, Josh Allen's a much better

(30:56):
quarterback than Trevor Lawrence. The difference is you watch Trevor
Orange when and Natty play at Clemson. This kid played
with Wyoming players. So Cosell does not love all the
hyped up quarterbacks. I was never a huge fan of
Deshaun Watson out of college. I didn't think he was
a natural thrower of the football at Clemson. I thought
he was a great athlete, but I never thought he
was a pretty thrower better than Milroll. But Milroll, it

(31:19):
feels hard.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
Milroe is one of the best athletes to come in
at quarterback that we've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Though.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
So I thought your point earlier was really smart when
you said with the Rams, give him two three years.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Of McVeigh, maybe a different outcome.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
That's a blank.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Kats Jackson Dart to me. If Jackson Dart went to
you know McVay, Oh, mcveay gets him like with their
first pick and he does not play a snap of
you know, profound football for two years and then year three. Yeah,
I'm gonna tell you he's gonna be a pretty good player,
not great, But that's a different outcome than going to

(31:53):
New Orleans and starting tomorrow or starting in September. That's
a totally different outcome. The Titans, though in the last
ten seasons, think about this brutal twenty six in passing touchdowns.
So you can see Tennessee saying, we thought we had
it with Mariota, Ryan Tannehill, got us a number one seed,
Will Levis, you know sec. You could see Tennessee saying, also,

(32:14):
they have an offensive coach, and you know, Callahan's the
O line coach. You could just say them, we just
want to be competent at quarterback, and we think we
can coach cam Ward to be competent. Plus, so if
you're going to reach reach at quarterback, sure that Tennessee
has got to get that position eventually. Right, Chicago, go

(32:35):
hire Ben Johnson. You gotta get Caleb Williams. Right, I
get it all right? Good stuff Monday Show fled by
