don't get stuff like this that often.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
And the context remember is that Jahn Morant turned his
ankle in the second half and was still trying to
play through it in the fourth quarter, including the final seconds.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Well, and it's also the backdrop is remember the Grizzlies
fired their head coach, yes, a few games ago. This
is I don't understand this. Now, First things first, all right,
let's do the Warriors win the game and they move
on to the playoffs. They will take on the Houston Rockets,
and now they're gonna be the gambling darlings. All of course,
(01:36):
they're gonna see the Warriors gonna beat everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Because they got Butler, they got Curry, and they were
great tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
But Butler, Yeah, Butler had thirty eight, Curry at thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
It was fantastic.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
And Curry made every free throw thirteen for thirteen. But
on this show when we last left you, it was
gonna be an inbounds for the Memphis Grizzlies and they
were only down three.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Right now, Now, let me before we get to that,
let me say this because I know, I know canbr
hates me for what I say about Steph Curry. But
the thing is, when the Warriors had the one point
lead and eleven seconds left, and the Grizzlies had three
fouls to give before they could get the Warriors to
(02:19):
the free throw line, and they needed them to shoot
free throws. All three times that the Warriors inbounded the ball,
Steph Curry was double teamed at least and every single
time that the Warriors were able to get the ball
in they were able to inbound it to Steph Curry.
He did an incredible job of getting open and being
(02:41):
able to be a target to get the basketball. Now
you knew they had to foul every single time, so
really the first couple of times it didn't matter who
got the basketball. But still the Warriors we're gonna get
We're gonna get the ball to Steph Curry. Nobody else
even in on the play, We're gonna get it to
step Steph Curry kind of singled with a little bit
of double the first time he gets the ball, double team,
the second time he gets the ball, nearly triple team.
(03:03):
The third time he still gets the basketball, goes to
the free throw line, hits the couple of free throws
to give the Warriors a three.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Point lead with five seconds left.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Like you know, look, I give him a lot of
flak for he's too small to get his own shot
at the end of games. It's really hard for him
to do it. And look you saw when he tried
to take it one on one with a one point lead,
with a three point lead and thirty seconds left to go,
he couldn't get to the hoop and he winds up
going short on a running one hander. But the job
he did to get open on those three incredibly clutch plays,
(03:34):
that really is something. Despite the fact that Memphis did
almost everything they could to try to deny him the basketball.
He's the last guy you wanted the free throw line,
and he gets the free throw line and hits both
free throws.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
That is some job by Steph Curry.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Andy hit the two free throws with three seconds left
as well, so he stayed perfect at the line. And
let's not forget with two minutes to go, clutch three
pointer made. With just under one minute to go, clutch
three pointer made. Jimmy Butler is the leading scorer thirty
but Curry had an impressive thirty seven.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
So there's your backdrop leading to what we're gonna talk
about now. So the Grizzlies trail by three with five
and a half seconds left to go.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Now they have the ball.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
You know, they call timeouts, they get to advance a
past half court, so they're inbounding the ball. Except inbounding
I'm gonna put in parentheses because as we see, the
NBA will still call five seconds once in a great while.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
This is where you guys play that play that I
talked about with the five second call.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Hey, pammy, they don't call it tight shirt.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
This is where we play that play. Do we have
the play? Oh?
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Sorry? Researching for Steve why Eels don't reproduce touch the
cord five point four to go bounce past Barranton with
there's a five second call.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
That's a five second call. Grizzly turn the all over. Wow.
They didn't get the ball in in time?
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Wow. Indeed, so they don't get the ball in. That
is the.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Radio network of your triumphant Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And that, by the way, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Santi al Dama doesn't get the ball in and they
turn the ball over, which is boy, this is what
you want when you fire your head coach before you know,
a few games before the end of the season. Uh
Tamasilo is going to have an incredible time explaining this
in the in the postgame press conference. But you know, look,
before we get to that, I want to point something
(05:37):
out here that that I don't think people have have
sought on social media. You know, we talked about, Hey,
this is gonna be John Morant getting the basketball right,
they're gonna find a way to get to jam Moran.
He's gonna he's gonna take the three. Watch the replay.
Gary Payton grabs Jahn Morant around the hips and doesn't
(05:57):
let go. As Morant is trying to make his way
back towards the basketball.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
He was the closest to fowl.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
That's called.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
No foul is called, and the five second violation is
wrung up. Now Moran starts to play in the far
corner right, so clearly Memphis has some sort of screen.
They're going to work to try to get Joa Moran open.
And Moran makes his way to get the ball and
he comes in and Gary Payton just grabs him around
his waist and holds onto him, like wow, man, I
(06:28):
get that that was a big biff by not getting
the ball and bounds, But my goodness, man, Gary Payton's
right in front of the referees with his arms around
around John Moran, and no foul is called.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
That's crazy, and he let him go. He dropped his
arms when Moran went to his left to break open
to accept the pass, but by then the five second
call was being whistled. And I wonder if John Moran
had two healthy ankles in this game, if it would
have been easier for him to get free in the
first place. At some point during the five seconds instead,
(07:00):
Gary Payton Junior was doing his glove impersonation with the
late defense.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Oh man, I mean really in front of the officials
and it's not called, and he lets go with the
other great defensive player.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I can't.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
You can't fault a great strategy making the great defensive
player when the ball's coming in. Now I'm gonna let go,
and now it's too late like this, like John Moran,
at that point, you kind of think, hey, I need
to draw this foul because I'm not getting the ball.
There's we're coming to the end of the five second clock.
I need to do something to draw this foul. And
(07:33):
I needed to flop.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I needed to do something.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
But it's a great point you bring up, is that
maybe his ankle injury, he wasn't quite feeling as one
hundred percent physically that I could do something like that.
But wow, I mean, that's right in front of the
officials and that is not called.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
I will also blame Morant for the timing of it all,
costing his team that five second violation because when before
he broke free to accept the pass, which turned out
to be too late, he placed himself right behind the
inbound defender, Steph Curry, so the guy throwing the inbounds
pass couldn't see through to get Moran to pass with
(08:09):
anything straight. He was gonna have to cut left or
cut right Moran to get free to accept a pass,
and he wasted time with where he set up for
the inbounds pass.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
I really I can't understand how that whistle's not blown.
I mean, my goodness, he just he's got him around.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I think you answered your question the end of last
hour with the calls that went against Golden State late
in the game, including when Pajemski thought for sure he
had a fast break block and they whistled him for
a foul in the final two minutes.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Wow, I mean, that is a That is a ref's
helping out right there. Man, That is a ref's just
helping out. But you know, but look, this is you
gotta be able to get the ball. And it felt
like it felt like Memphis watching this play, they thought
they had more time than they did, Like it was
a really slow developing inbounds play like Moran doesn't start
to make a run to the ball until it's real
(09:00):
too late or nearly too late.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Did.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
It just felt like it was set up very lackadaisically, like, Okay,
we're gonna get the ball in and see what they see,
what kind of defense they throw at us for the
last five seconds, and instead you just gonna get.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
The ball in.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
And now with well, we know the Golden State is
the seventh seed in the West. The Lakers Minnesota full
schedule has come out. The two games in LA to
start that first round best of seven, Minnesota at the
Lakers Saturday night and Tuesday night, and then the next
two games in Minnesota as well. As we mentioned early
(09:33):
in the show, the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise until a couple
of years ago, had literally one year in their history
where they won a playoff series. It was the Kevin
Garnett run to the Conference finals in four when the
Lakers eliminated them in the West Finals. They made it
to the Conference finals again just with that run last year,
(09:56):
and can they repeat. It's a Lakers first round opponent.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Man, you know, I'm trying to think, Steve, when's the
last time a team needed a basket at the end
of the game, and they couldn't get the shot off.
I'm trying to no, no, don't tell me, don't tell me.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Hey, I got a clue.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
It was a long time ago, wasn't it. Like I'm
going back like years and years, right.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
I can give you a clue. Yeah, sure, the winner
of the Golden State game tonight goes to Houston. Yeah,
the Cougar's in the National championship game.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Oh boy, by the way, did you.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Notice that after Curry made the clinching free throws at
the end, there were still what three seconds left? And
Memphis didn't get a shot off in those three seconds
either their last two possessions.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Therefore, Oh, they don't allow the Grizzlies to get a
shot off, and now they get to go to Houston.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Unbelievable. That's a new thing though.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Once a week, Steve, we're going to see a big
basketball game end where the one team that needs a
shot is knock and even get a shot off at
the end.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Wow, that would be bad basketball. I can't see. I'm
looking forward to that.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
So well, and we've seen it. We've seen bad basketball
right there.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
I can update that everything is final now not only
with the NBA playing wins by Golden State and Orlando,
but the late ball game at Dodger Stadium is a final.
The good news for the Rockies they didn't lose any
ground in the standings of the NS because the Padres
actually lost a home game tonight. But yes, the Rockies
were beaten again. It was six to two LA. So
Colorado's overall record is three and fourteen.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Man, well, there we go. At least at least at
least we know that the I would say, we know
that the Padres are human a little bit.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
That's right, and the Rockies are a mere ten and
a half hour.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah yeah, Now, look, you know you mentioned how the
Warriors are going to go to Houston here, right, and
there's a lot of pressure on Houston to win this
series because look, they looked like they were a team that, hey,
we're you know, we had a great did a great
start to the season. Then they really sawt of faltered,
They kind of fell down the standings a bit, but
then they played really well at the end.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
The Warriors are going to be.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Vegas's darlings after winning this game here they are. Yes,
they're better than a seven seed. We saw how well
they played with Jimmy Butler. Here they are. Watch them
going all of a sudden, Watch what the odds and
the money on the Warriors for this upset against the
Rockets goes. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if by
the time this series started the Warriors wouldn't be favored
over the Rockets in this because of what's going to
(12:26):
happen to the lines on.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
This Wow, that is saying something, because you know out
the two seed usually starts the series at home. That's
quite something to say. They are a young team, they
have rebuilt. It is past tense now after some truly
wretched seasons in recent Rockets history. So now they have
a chance to win a playoff well, not forget win
(12:47):
a playoff series, get to the playoffs for the first
time in five years. They've got a young group. This
is the chance. And you're right that they didn't finish
all that well, but they had such a good stretch
round Mark it kind of paved the way for them
to finish even a front in front of a very
hot Lakers team down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Yeah, I mean, look, the Western the what these playoffs
are going to be a gas man, I'm telling you,
I mean, maybe maybe not the rest of the playing
rounds in the East, but everything else is going to
be an absolute gas because you have some great matchups
now in the Western Conference. You have the the tried
and true teams that that people think can make being
runs in the Lakers and the Warriors, and you have
the the new kids in Oklahoma City. And don't forget
(13:30):
about the Nuggets and Yo Kitchen.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
What this how good? Alone? Good? This East?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
I'm telling this Eastern Conference play the Western Conference playoffs
is going to be amazing the.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
East, but the West is going to be fantastic.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
And there again.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Western Conference Playoffs here they are games here on TNT,
True TV, TBS, Eastern Conference also televised.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Put that in. Put that in your promo. There been
in recent years there have been first rounds of the
NBA postseason that you kind of yawn through and say,
are we going to get to some real basketball where
I genuinely think this could go six or seven? You
can recall in recent history that's kind of been the
bad aspect of letting so many bad teams into your
(14:19):
league's playoffs. Instead, it's just focused on the Eastern side.
Now as you reference, just for the playing in the East,
this is the third straight year we're getting Atlanta, Miami, Chicago.
In fact, we're getting Chicago and Miami against each other
tomorrow night in a loser leaves town, although if you've
seen some of their games, it seems like they've left
(14:39):
town already.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Two of the official teams of the Eastern Conference playing
season're in it every year.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
They are official.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Teams, official teams in the association. That's correct. Miami's record
is thirty seven and forty five and their season still
isn't over. That's what I don't understand. The real playoffs
begin on Saturday. The first round series do include a
game one Saturday night for the Knicks against the Pistons
(15:06):
and the Pacers Bucks. Bucks have won eight in a row.
That game one of that series starts the Saturday schedule
one pm Eastern time. The Bucks update today was that
Damian Lillard's still out, but his blood clod injury has improved,
according to the team. Not expecting to see him this weekend.
But okay, some good news exit.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
How about a Fresca Jason Smith, Steve Desager and for
Mike Carbon an incredible ending with the Warriors and the Grizzlies.
We'll have more on this five second call that is
going to send the Grizzlies into a loser leave town match.
Plus we talked about the Rockets even gonna be favored
over the Warriors. Not the team under the most pressure
to win this week?
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Who is that?
Speaker 1 (15:46):

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon, Steve de Sagarin
for Harmon Tonight live from the Tirerack dot Com Studios,
and uh An Unreal ending with the Warriors and the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies can't inbound the ball. They get called for
a five second violation, down three with five seconds left,
(17:54):
and the Warriors hit their couple of free throws, and
now the Warriors go on to the next round of
the playoffs and the Grizzlies have to go and play
later off this week. I you know, first thing I
want to say, Steve is is I want to ask
you this because you know you want to know, Uh,
how would Chris Berman describe this loss by the Grizzlies
(18:15):
tonight to the Warriors?
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Okay, I'm standing by I.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Know I know you would ask and he would simply
say this.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
And clearly a problem for Isolo and the Grizzlies couldn't
finish against the Warriors tonight.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
TJ okay is Cliff notes come with this.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Well, he's alos from Finland, so he's finished that there,
you know, the finish the finish, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Clearly, and the Grizzlies trouble crossing the finish line.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
And tonight's game it.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
Was a bat I mean, I'll go ahead and state
the obvious. This was a winnable game, even with your
star hobbled in the second half. They could have had
some days off with the Morant injury and instead Steph's
Steph Curry is perfect from the line. He gets sent
to the line a couple different times, very late in
the game where he salts away the game and you
(19:11):
can't even get the ball ian with five seconds to
go down three.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
It was a fight to the finish of that five
second violation.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
It looked like the game was finish when Memphis was
down twenty in the first ten.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
I mean, look, this is this is where if you're
the Grizzlies, right, and this is why I feel great
about my my Big Bowl preditioner for last night, which
we'll get to in a second, is that what's the
worst optic you could have? Here are the Grizzlies who
fired their head coach, right they file or Taylor? They
fired Taylor Jenkins and now here's a new head coach
and to almost Isilo is in and what did you
(19:47):
have happen at the end? A complete breakdown where you
couldn't get the ball in bounds like.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
The most basic play.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
It's I mean, this is this, this, this drama and
irony just rights itself. Fire your head coach and what
happens you blow a fox second violation at the end
of the playing game and now have to play another night.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Like it's not just that it means perfect even if
you win against you know, whoever wins Sacramento Dallas tomorrow,
even if you win on Friday, to stay alive and
get to the postseason. Officially, who are you playing in
the first round? The best team in the entire NBA
this year Oklahoma City at sixty eight and fourteen.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Yeah, I mean that's what.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Look, we have to you have to treat the the
play in round with the proper perspective, and that is okay.
None of these teams are showing up out of the
playing round.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
It's hey, we're great. I know everybody wants that. The
Warriors can do it. No sign we're gonna make a
big run.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
It decides the seventh seed or the eighth. Yeah, that's
the fact.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
It doesn't really happen. Okay, Like it's it's fun, it's great, drama.
This week is made and it's about the playing teams.
But that's kind of where we're at, right. I mean,
like that, let's let's understand that, Hey, just because we've
seen them playing this year, I've seen them playing this
week doesn't mean suddenly these are the best teams in
the NBA.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
No one's walking around tonight going, you know, Orlando, watch.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Out they could they really gonna give Boston a y
all they can handle it. I see them magic and
upset in Balloboncaro's gonna score forty a game like, No,
that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
There is no team in NBA history that's ben seeded
seven or eight that has won the title. Just for
the record, there is no Raleigh, Massamino and Villanova type
of run in pro basketball's history.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
It's just it's just too hard to do. There's a
reason why you're there, even though with a great record,
there's a reason why you're in the playing round, right,
even in the West versus the East, where I think
the Warriors, if they were in the East, would finish second.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
So but I mean there's a reason.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
Well, if they had gotten Jimmy Butler a couple of
weeks earlier, they probably would have finished second in the game.
But the Grizzlies and the Warriors had the same record,
and they both won almost fifty games this year, and
yet that was the play and matchup. Yes, the West
is strone.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Oh, it's murdered. The West is murder.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
That's why it's like, oh, but yeah, but the Warriors
are really good.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
The rest of the conference is great. Yeah, I get
the Warriors are good. The rest of the conference is
absolutely loaded.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Did you see the Clippers in the last month and
a half? Have you seen the Lakers record the last
month and a half? I mean, oh man, people are
kind of they seem happy, like, could we please get
matched up with the Nuggets. They're asking to get matched
up with the Nuggets because comparatively, you know, there's not
a lot of free passes out here.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
We want to play teams that we think are week
or are replacing coaches.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Let's make sure that's where we wind up playing it.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Although this will never happen, there is a possibility of
a second round series next month of the Nuggets with
the new coach against the Grizzlies with the new coach.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Now, in that case, then there would be no coaches.
They would both coaches. Would they would agree to not
have a coach?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Yeah, they would just fire them out of habit before
the second round starts and see whoever's farther down the bench.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well, was the last game of the year Jokic was dying,
was drawing up plays on the off board, you know,
like it's like, Okay, I guess whatever Nichola says when.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Somebody should tell Kevin Durant personally, because it was his quote,
O recently, I can be the coach one game, so
and so can be the coach one Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
See when he said that about he and Kyrie, When
when Steve Nash got the job and he was like, yeah,
we don't need a coach.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
One of us could be the coaches.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Even though that was really insulting for Steve Nash, I
kind of wanted to see that.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I wanted to see KD and Kyrie be the coaches.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Did we just see that this Phoenix Suns just completed season?
I mean didn't we Seriously?
Speaker 3 (23:33):
I think you're right we did. We did a little bit.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
I mean we saw truly bad management from the front office.
And Okay, I didn't disagree with the hire of a
head coach in the first place. And Okay, you're probably
gonna overpay him for two reasons because A he's he
won a title elsewhere and b you've got a money
bag's owner and he doesn't mind overpaying And he wants
(23:55):
to change now, and so guess what's gonna happen now?
Four head coaches in four years for Phoenix. Maybe the
tack you're taking is not what's working. And don't let
the players run things.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
So Jason Smith and Steve Disagaran from Mike Carmon right now.
So looking what we're gonna see for the plane right again.
Not over for the Grizzlies, you.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Know, and and for some last chance Friday coming up.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Not over for the Hawks, but the team under the
most pressure, it's kind.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Of over for the Hawks. Just laying the record. It's
kind of over.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Play again. They still play again.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
The Bulls should win tomorrow. And you like the Bulls
starting five more than the Hawks starting five.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Of course I do it.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
Trey Young tried to take the ball and leave so
he couldn't play, and he got thrown out.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
But still, you know, if only he would get suspended
one game and then he just won't be showing up
on Friday, and forget the whole last chance moniker.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
He shows up just wearing a Knicks hat, going, hey,
Leon Rose, you need me, man, you need me.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
I'll show up next year.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Did you say did you just say Nix and Rose
in the same sentence. Something happening.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
I could, I could, I could part with mckel bridges
for uh wait, what did I say.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
That out loud? Oh? Is that out loud?
Speaker 4 (25:05):
For now, you actually did say that out loud? But now,
things that bad in New York plan that you just said?
This is the this is the three seed? Right?
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Okay? Okay?
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Ask me are things that bad in New York? I
will tell you. Ask me in a week a week,
and I will tell you.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
The answer is in May. Because they can beat all
the teams, any team that they would play in April.
They're losing to all the teams that they would play
in May.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
Well, here the flip side of it is, boy, take
those three teams out of the NBA, and the Knicks
are the best team.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
In the league. They meet everybody else, just can't beat
the three best teams.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
That's quite a presumption. Okay, the Knicks would the three best.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
The Knicks would be thirty games over five hundred. If
you take those three teams out.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
Of the NBA, those three teams that literally won the
most games in the whole league all year. Just take
them out, take them out, and the team is the
best team. The Knicks are.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Fifty one and twenty.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
They'd be thirty one games over five hundred if they
didn't have to play those three.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
You know.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
And if you just delete the Padres, Giants and Dodgers,
the Rockies are going to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
People, Well, no, no, remember the Diamondbacks are in front of
him too.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Oh yeah, sorry that I'm not going to get two
into the playoffs from that.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Well, look this week, as we said, it's about the
playing teams, right, and there is one team under more
pressure than any other team to have a big show
and get out of the playing round. And it is
my team that I predicted, my long shot team out
because I like how things layout for them. They just
have to win these two pesky games. Nobody has more
pressure than the Mavericks because this is the spotlight with
(26:40):
the Luca trade.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
You know.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Nico Harrison talked today and said he still has no
regrets about the trade.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Yeah, he said, we got we got what we wanted.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Yeah, yeah, he said, we have no regrets for the
trade about Luca. Don only the second time he's met
the media to talk about.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
The kind of he kind of met the Well, yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
You're right, he kind of did. He sort of met
the meeting.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
There's no actual recording, he.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Couldn't record anything, right, But look, so you're still dealing
with this fallout of the Luca trade, right, and now
that the Lakers are off, they're not playing all week,
and you need something that can show you. Hey, okay,
let let's take it down to the studs and now
(27:22):
let's build back up and a big showing by the
Mavericks this week and specifically Anthony Davis. And I look,
I know how motivated he is. I know how bad
he wants to win. I mean, really, I'm picking the
Mavericks because I feel like Ad can carry them in
two games, right, because he he's feeling the pressure more
than anybody else.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Right.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
I like the Bulls to get out of the East,
the surprise team, and the Mavericks and the West. But
the Mavericks really is about Ad having a couple of
games where it's he's thirty eight, sixteen and nine, right,
which he can do.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
To Luca and Kyrie as always. And then Dallas, oh
that's not.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Gonna happen to Yeah, Steve de Seger not allowed in
Dallas ever again. But there's so much pressure, because if
they get out of the playing round, I think everything eases.
I think the pressure eases, the hatred eases, and then
Mavericks and their fans can look at the situation and say, Okay,
boy Ad can really carry us. We'll get Kyrie Irving
(28:21):
back next year healthy, We'll get another superstar in the
offseason because now you have the three hundred million dollars
we're not paying to Luka Doncich, so we have money.
We brought in a couple of really good support pieces
as well.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
We're in the finals.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Last year, it's one of the Yes, we lost Luca
and we can't sugarcoat that, but maybe we can now
begin to build back up. We hit rock bottom when
it comes to image of the franchise, how fans feel
about the team. But now we can build it back up.
And if they get a big playing round, it doesn't
matter how they get out of it. And if they
get out they get boat raced by the thunder, it
doesn't matter. You're talking about Wednesday, and winning Wednesday and
(28:56):
winning Friday would do would would be so great for
the Mavericks franchise. So much pressure then because they can
start to rewrite the narrative. If they lose, it's gonna
be even worse. They'll be again, they'll be channing fire
Nico at Dallas Stars playoff game. They'll be channing fire
Nico at in Oxnard for that when the Cowboys have
(29:16):
training camp.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
To be honest, if they lose to Sacramento tomorrow, I'm
sure there'll be somebody there in a MAVs jersey that
will just stand up solo on the road and start
chanting that, yeah, just for general purposes.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Don't forget, don't forget.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
So, I mean, it's it's going to be that kind
of pressure on Dallas because of what they can accomplish
and what happens if they lose. It's just going to
put this franchise and it just on this on the skids,
continuing on into the offseason, Whereas, hey, we want to
build some kind of momentum and make people think that
we can be good because you.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Know what, if they're healthy, Yeah, if they're healthy, yes
they can do well.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Remember Nico Harrison didn't wake up one morning and just
decide I'm gonna trade Luka Doncic today.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Everybody is on board with that. The ownership is on
board with it.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
The Addlson family was on board with it, right, The
Dumont family is on board.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
It's not just he went rogue.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
And traded him and nobody knew until the paperwork went through.
Mark Cuban, Oh, I would have disagree with that. Yeah,
I only owned seven percent of the team. He's not
even in on the conversations anymore. This was a strictly
black and white decision when it comes to the Addelson
and the Dumont family saying, Hey, here's a guy that
we're having trouble with. He won't he won't, he won't
quit drinking, he won't quit the hook, you know, all
(30:33):
the things that, all the stories we've heard, and we
have to give him three hundred and fifty million dollars
this offseason. Yeah, not the business investment we want. And
being people who bought into this team, not being quote
Dallas through and through right, Because Mark Cuban was Dallas right,
he gets what this trade was going to mean. They
decide very black and white. Okay, here's a lot of money,
(30:54):
we don't want to give it to this guy. Let's
make a trade. Hey, I'm gonna get all NBA player
and Anthony Davis back Okay, So Niko, it's time to yeah,
and here's a hot take. It's time to give him
a little bit of a pass and get off his
back from making this trade because everybody is on board
with this.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
This is not a trade that happens.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Hey, the GM does it one day, Billy Bean sitting
in his office calling Steve Phillips and then calling Brian
Sabian and find a way to get Ricardo Rincone Like,
that's not how this works. This is Hey, this is
a big deal that everybody is on board with. And
so yes, and he's done a I really, he's done
an incredible job taking all the arrows of this. I'm
sure he'd like the Addelsons to say, Hey, you want
(31:31):
to just come in here and just help me out
of it. No, I'm gonna leave me out there to try. Okay,
all right, that's how it's gonna go. So it's time
to back off a little bit because this is an
organizational move that they made. And there's a reason why
you can disagree with the reason why. I'm not saying
you can't disagree with all. You make it work with Luca,
you try to make it. Obviously, they tried to make
it work with Luca, and he wasn't listening to them,
(31:52):
So okay, they made the tough decision. But you're talking
about ad who went healthy is still an All NBA player.
Kyrie Irving is still that guy. They got to the
finals last year with him. Again, the support pieces they
have and now you're gonna go get somebody else in
the off season. It's not a short trip for Dallas
to get back up to the top the West, but
they but this week the pressure on them what they
(32:15):
can do for the franchise by winning these two games
and get it just getting into the believer. If they
lose in four in the playoffs doesn't matter. Just getting
into the playoffs would start the healing and get them
back on the road again. No pressure on them more
than anybody else to get out of the playing round.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
And they also just drafted Page Beckers, So Dallas is fine, Yeah,
very different. I'm all the excitement. Okay, let's get to hey, Hey.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
I'll tell you, hey, you want to get to the
first round of the playoffs and run that. Becker's are
gun bawally backcourt out there. I'm okay, that's a lot
of shots right there. It's a lot of offense.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Hopefully they make it to the end. Let's get to
our last update in the show tonight and start with
the NBA play in because a team that also had
a lot of pressure on it, the Clockets, ticking on
that roster. The Golden State Warrior, who did win nearly
fifty games this year, stays alive. They'll be the seventh
seed in the West, heading to Houston to start a
first round series on Sunday. Golden State beat Memphis in
(33:10):

points in the loss. He was battling a springed ankle

Curry with thirty seven Curry with a couple of clutch

Orlandos going to Boston as the seven seed. Magic beat

Speaker 4 (36:00):
Warriors they're picking, experience, right because you, know this roster
seems kind of set up right for The Houston. Rockets
this is a team that won over fifty, games they
earn their seating in the clearly the toughest, conference and
they're just Saying steph's been there. Before BECAUSE i don't
know any reason why out of, hand aside from the
(36:21):
Name Golden, state where you'd, say, oh, no, no, no Not. Houston,
no even though they have home. Court, no even though
they've had a few days off this, week they're not

Plane.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Yeah but if The rockets could GET kd now instead
of next, SEASON i might go with The.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Rockets Jalen green was a very good draft pick for.

listen we only all know The. Suns you're getting blown, up, Right,
yeah all kind OF i.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Thought we had that whole thing in THE nba where
they can get paid off and then pick their next.
Team we can't do that for the.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Playoffs, no you're you're the biggest train wreck in THE.
Nba we're just gonna PUT kd on The. Rockets, Now,
okay we'll figure out whatever, compensation but we need this
to be some kind of. Series AND kd playing Against
steph like that's a really big. Deals we're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
That.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
Now, well It's Dylan, brooks WHO i mentioned earlier in
the show that that is that is a guy that
you would want to see in A houston uniform out
there in this. Matchup and Men thompson has certainly not
just a lottery. Pick you can see his. Talent Shanng
goon at center has so many double double. Games this
IS i know people don't Watch. Houston this is a
team that deserved its seeding and they will have home

Speaker 4 (37:43):
YEAH i just wanted to see the playing.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Game so you mentioned speaking of the playing, Game Trey
young gets thrown out of The hawks loss tonight for
holding onto the basketball at the end of the.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Game, look The hawks were getting drilled by The.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Magic they weren't winning the, game And Trey young and
frustration hell out of the ball wouldn't give it to the.
Official he gets thrown out of the. Game here's how
the officials described Why Trey young was thrown out of the.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Game you ready for?
Speaker 1 (38:09):
This? Okay this is this is this is from. Uh
this is what THE nba said via a pool reward
after the. Game, Right, okay this is Referee James. Williams
he received his second unsportsman like technical foul for kicking
the ball away and making a mockery of the.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Game so that's the official. Explanation.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Uh here we are number number eleven making a mockery
of the game technical and that's an.
Speaker 4 (38:40):

Speaker 3 (38:57):
YEARS T, I T. J i don't want to make
a mockery of the situation here and get it.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Wrong so the official schedules are out for for for
everybody's best of seven just. About but this is the
question mark what you're talking about right. Now The Atlanta
hawks lost. Tonight if they don't Win, friday there is
no weekend series that starts for. Them they're. Done so
my immediate question, is does this action making a mockery
(39:25):
of the game in a STANDALONE NBA tv game merit
a one game? Suspension?
Speaker 1 (39:33):
No come, on they told they Told John, moran, hey
no finger. Guns eight hours later he's doing finger. Guns they, said, yeah,
okay that's.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
Fine that's WHAT i.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Mean come, on you're not gonna, mean not gonna be
making you can, be if, anything you can make a
mockery of the game and not expect to be taken.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
Health it just would love ONE nfl referee to open
the mic and use that phrase during the coming. Season
iron really do.
Speaker 1 (39:56):

AND i See Scott FASS, tba so they're waiting to see.
Speaker 4 (40:02):

Wherever he needs to.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Go he's like the, uh the survivalist in the movie
that you, KNOW i used to work for the, government
not for a long.
Speaker 3 (40:14):

A sunday night game, one and then not until A
wednesday night game. Two and this is kind of running
along with the joke of yours from. Earlier they're sticking
(40:45):
that eight seed game Next wednesday ON NBA. Tv so
much of the country will not even have access, to,
say A Hawks calves game game two in the first
round Next.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Wednesday, no they'll all be Watching Dick pavetta officiate The Nicks.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Pistons that's what's gonna.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
