Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon, live from the ti
rack dot com studios tirec dot com.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'll help you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free roadhazard protection, and
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirac dot com is the
way tire buying should be. So big night in the NBA.
Gonna get to that coming up in a second. However,
I do I won't want to bring this up here
(00:59):
because this is anomaly, and I don't know that I've
I don't know that I've ever seen a zero. But
tonight in women's college basketball, Columbia, who's at the top
of the IVY League right they're rolling through two's. Uh
they beat Dartmouth eighty nine. Thirty seven, Yeah, thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
They're in a.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Row, all right, which is obviously know Dartmouth's not very good.
Colombia is really good. In the third quarter, Dartmouth scored
one point, Yeah, one point in the third quarter, which
which asked me, has anybody ever gone scoreless? Has any
women's team, you know, d one like this gone scoreless
in a quarter? Like?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I don't know? Like that ever?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
How or is this like a low one? I mean,
you can't get any lower than one unless you have zero?
Or is this like the record? Like I don't know.
I don't know if that's a record or not.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
As any.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Has anyone ever scored zero points in a game in
a quarter?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
In college boom with college basketball?
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Like, I don't know?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
What does AI tell you? Is that? What does ay
I tell you? Thank you for your question, Mike Harmon
in a quarter?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Sorry fat fingering?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Umm, gotta type better than that.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
I tried and it's not coming back with any What
do you have a bad Internet?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Well? How you can't type?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
You can't well, well, no type?
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Did it?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Just didn't give me a u an AI response? I'm like,
what did I do?
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Am? I?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
I'm in the wrong browser. I thought, that's just like
the common thing anymore to try to guess what I'm
trying to ask, but long before I do it.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Apparently, I want to say, a couple of years ago,
Oklahoma State women were scoreless in a game in the
first quarter.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Okay, that's I don't know that. That's a Reddit comment. Yeah, okay,
that's That's.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
What I've come up with. That's the only one I've
come up with.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, I don't see any other. Okay, all right, and
AI gave me nothing use one point one point one
point See you say, you know.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
The funny thing is for all of us who do
sports are living, we talk about AI, AI, We all
talk We all think Alan Iverson is the one doing
all of this, Like, oh, just ask AI, Alan not practice?
Speaker 4 (03:19):
When you talk about practice, you want to talk about
an ad campaign that writes itself. Has he not made
millions of dollars off being the face of AI for
some company?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, but I see, I don't know that if your AI,
I don't know, are we at the point where you
can flaunt anything with AI advancement or.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Is it still very skeptical? Like I don't know, I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
No, I think there's there's a healthy skepticism and a
lot of it. There's a lot of people afraid of
losing jobs, you know, like us. Okay, all right, we've
said a lot of things, open mouths saying things. Tysher
has a whole verbal dictionary with a lot of words.
Wouldn't even expect to be in them for the two
of us to where I mean, you could program it.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
What's the topic? Boom?
Speaker 1 (04:02):
You know, it's funny you say you speaking of losing jobs?
Because this hit me for a second today. Now you
know how President Trump is firing everybody that does anything,
fire with anything with the uh, with with with the
federal government and all these different you can't even keep
track of it.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
It's it's so everything going. It's a lot of stuff
going on it today.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
I saw headline today that said, uh, you know Trump,
you know rolling back or Trump announcing you know, uh
fire as ever was for the CFPB, And for a
second I said, he can't fire the College Football Playoff Committee?
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Come on? Now it turned out.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Something else, But I thought, for a second, is he really.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Firing the playoff Committee? That's fantastic one he left Miami out.
You can't we can't have you.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
But you know what, I saw one thing on on
X that I didn't have time. I was, you know,
in process of getting ready for the show, uh, to
go and ferret out whether it was real or someone
just having some fun based on U the aforementioned federal changes. Uh.
And it was an area saying, hey, if you ever
(05:06):
wanted a house in this area of Virginia, and it
was like fifty in this very small thing of like
all the little bubbles with that the price of the house. Hey,
real estate here, it is here. Now it's your time.
And I couldn't tell if it was a joker, if
legitimately you just suddenly have a lot of listings. Uh.
Somewhere in the truth in the middle there the truth lies.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
We're we're firing everyone who picked these teams for the
college football playoff. Second right for a second, I'm like, wow,
he can't really Oh no, no, okay, CFP be Okay, it's
something it's consumer protects. I'm like, oh, okay, it's not
the college wall playoff. Minute all right, it could have been.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I mean it might be. Yeah, no, it might have been.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
And would you have blamed him? That might have gotten
you some points back from folks that might have been
upset with some of the other No, I.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Don't think I think all the I think the college
football playoff snubs, the teams that got left out, Miami
getting left out, it's really, it's, it's, it's.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
It was a kin to it.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
I thought it'd be bigger than it was, but it
was akin to the teams that get left out and
stubbed from the nca Tournament in basketball, like it's a
story for a day and then we move on, because clearly,
you only have so much argument for a team that
didn't win enough to find their way into the tournament. Right,
anytime you have to really make an argument for a team,
how big of a deal is it really?
Speaker 3 (06:30):
And it's and it's, it's a.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Completely different thing to argue for a team that is
left out when you're talking about the top four teams
in the country than when you're talking about the top
twelve teams, because the difference between Team four and Team five.
Both these teams could be eleven and one. One team
could be twelve and one and they and they, but
they didn't win their conference. The other team's eleven and
one and won their conference. Like that's a tough thing
(06:53):
to split hairs beeen four and five, but then you
get to twelve and thirteen, it's well, this team had
three losses and like, okay, you know what, Sorry, you
didn't get in. I'm sorry you lost three games.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
You didn't get it.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, you might be really good, should have beat Syracuse Miami,
but you didn't. I'm sorry about that bigger brand.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
All of these things, absolutely, and you want to leave
it to the debate, but in this particular case, I mean,
sometimes you know, you got to take the bull by
the horns and just say, you know what, you didn't
do the job.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Now, speaking of.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Not doing the job, we're in the well, we've kicked
off NBA All Star Weekend tonight and we you know,
saw the games with a run TMC coaching. Yeah, the
winning team that gets to play Sunday Dalton connect gets
to play.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Lebron's an All Star? Now does this make him an
All Star?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
From I got traded, the trade got blown up, and
then I sat and sulked. Well, my team was having
a massive run. I didn't cheer, I didn't respond. I
just sat there paid. But I just said, but now
he's an All Star so he's an All Star alongside
his teammate Lebron James.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
How great is that? Yeah, no, it's great.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
And she the montage of that they did of the
jerseys trying to talk about the great eclectic fan base
of the NBA. Look, all teams represented, and the first
one was a Luca Dallas jersey.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Yeah that's nice. Oh heyway get off in fast, get up?
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Why who put him first? You're fired? You want to
talk about firing and presidential edicts?
Speaker 3 (08:22):
That guy?
Speaker 4 (08:23):
He gone, I.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Got a don't connect hornets jersey? No, no, no, get
of that. Cant of that man? What if he wore
it tonight? No, no, no, no, no, can't do it.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Can't do it too much to people all over the arena,
jerseys of every team, every superstar. You pick the guy
sitting there with the Luca jersey. Ay, I'm gonna needle him.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Now. Look, let's let's take a look here at the
biggest question going into NBA All Star Weekend, and really
it is. It is not worth it because I love
how many fake experts and insiders and talking heads fake
care about NBA All Star Weekend, Like if the players
don't man up and play great what what what?
Speaker 2 (09:06):
What?
Speaker 3 (09:07):
What are you gonna do? What?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
What's gonna happen? They have to take responsibility. It's an
all star game.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
They got a Voice and Pen column on Monday to
talk about how much I didn't like it, or.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
What's gonna happen? What's the ramifications? It's an all star game.
They gotta take it seriously again, see my first point,
it's an all star game. Well, I mean it's it's
it's it's insane. Watch it or don't, right, Like, that's
kind of how I feel. You know, we play the
bite all the time. If you don't like it, don't watch.
It's an All Star game. You can pick it up
here and there, whatever you want. It's not a stain
(09:40):
on the league. Be real about it, right, it's an
all Star game. It's not about anything more than celebration
of the game and people getting to see players play
with players they don't normally see. And look, is the
popularity of it what it was? No, but the popularity
is not what any All Star games were. And every
year the NBA does the same thing. They stunt cast
(10:01):
to try to get people through the gates. Right, Hey,
we want we're doing this different format Okay, that's great.
Will it work I don't know. But every year that's
kind of what all Star games do. We throw you
something different it hopes it's gonna get you to watch.
Like that's why all Star games are now. The old
days aren't coming back.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
It's not, you know.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
And even if the NBA players took it seriously, even
if all of a sudden, you know, they're they're knocking
guys down, going in for a layup and taking you know,
you take a Big three not looking at and you
get knocked down the net, that doesn't get people to
the television. It's the All Star Game. Yeah, there's no stakes.
The All Star Game has had its day right in
all sports. And just because something has been around forever
(10:41):
doesn't mean it's going to be around forever. And people
miss that. They may, well, yeah, but this we've always had. Yeah,
just because it's always been that way doesn't mean it's
always gonna be there. As you see things that have
been around for fifty seventy five, one hundred years gone,
businesses that have been stepped gone, everything gone, restaurants anything gone.
This is kind of how it goes. And it's the
same thing for All Star games. But the also game
(11:02):
was great for so long. Yeah, I had a great.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Run, and it's not there.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Right, I've considered what have I talking about Syracuse basketball
the last couple year. Hey, we had a great thirty
year run. We're completely irrelevant now, but we were great
for thirty years. Yeah, that run is over. Now the
last ten years we've been terrible. We're a mid basketball program.
And you can say that for so many things. But
for the All Star Game, it's yeah, Okay, we had
a great run. We had a great the nineties All
(11:26):
Star Game was great. Mark Stein joined us with some
great memories of some All Star games in the past.
That's what the All Star Game was. It's had its
heyday and now we're onto something else, and it's not
about All Star games with the NBA. It's now, Hey,
we have now gone to a point in the NBA
where we have across the board access to any player
(11:47):
you want access to at any time. You can see
these players anytime you want to. You can watch any
game at any time anywhere if you want to. That's
a pretty good going forward for the All Star Game, right.
I Mean, I'm not saying we got to go all
the way back to it. You know, in the eighties,
the NBA Finals were odd tape delay.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
It's all day on.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Ryan Fitzpatrick's a smart quarterback, you know, Jeff Fischer's on
the competition committee. The NBA Finals is on tape to delay. No,
but you go back to where it was where. Yeah,
the specialists of the All Star Games is always well,
these players don't get to see all the time.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Well, now you get to see them all the time.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
So I think that's a pretty good advancement in NBA
and being able to consume what you want. Yeah, the
All Star Game kind of falls by the wayside. But
this is what it is. But it's not the decline
and fall in Western civilization. If they don't play, you
don't like it, don't watch. That's how it is. Sometimes
I watch the All Star Game. Sometimes I watch All
Star Saturday night. Sometimes I'll get the highlights after it.
(12:41):
Sometimes I don't. Right, that's kind of what it is.
The All Star Game is something that again, you know,
to quote Mark Stein from earlier in the show, Hey,
it happens. People whoever pays attention pay attention on the
weekend and it's completely forgotten on Monday. That's kind of
how it goes. And that's the All Star game.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, I get the radical changes that we need to make.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Quiz Bowl, quiz Bol, questions about the NBA or stuff
about like anything.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Oh, the meaning of life? I mean, yeah, got deep
right there, A lot of a lot of the the
NBA stuff, certainly. I mean, let's let's keep it light
and fluffy, some movie stuff, some pop culture, some random
uh you know, one offs from the crowd. I mean
take take calls and questions, you know, uh uh, and
and let it flow from there. They become characters or
(13:32):
or something like that. I did not I'm not gonna
let it go unnoticed and unchecked. That you did your
berman multiple times by going.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Down for all the businesses.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Remember Billy Joel, the the wise sage among us once said,
the good old days weren't always good. And tomorrow and
as bad as it seems. In other words, you take
or leave it. It's a an all star event. You
celebrate what and maybe you'll see it. Coup of guys
that you've only watched once or twice, because remember, we
get to watch it all right West Coast living and
(14:06):
doing the show.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
We've watched the Blazers so.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
You didn't have to. Now they're eight and two going
into the breaking excitement whatever else. But all those teams
out here that you haven't seen, trust me, we've seen them.
So for the All Star break, yeah, maybe you actually
do get to see some of these guys that you haven't.
But the over arching thing is very true. It's not
it doesn't have the same resonance, right, it's it's the convention.
(14:32):
It's the the business aspect of it, shaking hands, kissing babies.
None of those broadcasting partners are suddenly washing away a
seventy six billion dollar deal because you decide to go
mow the lawn or go hang out with your family
on a Sunday afternoon instead of watching the All Star Game,
or you watch the Daytona five hundred in the afternoon,
(14:53):
or you watch the SNL fifty or whatever else you're
viewing habits.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Maybe they're not suddenly gonna be you know what.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
But yeah, we didn't get ratings in the fourth quarter
because you know, nobody cared because Dalton konnect was lighting
up Lebron James Like, suddenly, that's not avoiding the business
of it. Right, all of that's done, and they'll have
done the job by that point before they come on
to the court. So either watch or don't. We'll be
(15:21):
here for you along the way. But complaining about it,
as so many of our media brethren do, It's like,
find something else, man, fine, find that, Like this is
a hill that folks have been dying on for decades.
Like this is not a recent addition to the sports lexicon.
This is like when Mariotti was a columnist back in
(15:42):
Chicago for the Sun Times. I could count. Hey, what
day is it. It's Wednesday? Oh, this is the anti
azzie Gian column. Today Thursday. Oh, it's a Rhinesdorf. It's
gonna be a general anti Rhinesdwarf Friday.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Little bit of a wild card.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Might get a Cubs thing, might get a little bit
of a Frank Thomas saying, depends what how he's feeling
that day. But you could set your clock to it.
Same thing here every year. It's All Star weekend. Boy,
it's terrible. I really wish Lebron was in the dunk contest.
You know what, that ship sailed a long time ago.
(16:19):
That's moved and vacillated and gone the way of his hairline. Okay,
that is gone see what I did there. I brought
it back to you and gone. You even went said
back and gone.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Back back back, back back back gone.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
If you did that, buddy, it's a final exit out
about a Fresca exit Swallen Dome. Jason Smith Mike Carmon

Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
Live from the tirac dot Com studios Happy Valentine's Day,
that it was a big you know holiday today, not
technically a holiday, but a big day that you know
we've all celebrated. You know, it's kind of weird because
when you know, we come on the air tonight, we're
(18:45):
talking Obviously we want to be cognizant of the days
and always stuff happening going on. You know, Valentine's Day
is one of those days where Okay, there's people who
are with people, it's a great day. People who are single,
and it's not. Uh so I kind of get it right.
But mainly would I think of when when we do
shows on Valentine's Days? I think of like, you know, fifteen,
(19:05):
you know when when I was at ESPN, right and
we were on the air and it was the mid
two thousands, like without fail, and it's it's cringe worthy now.
It's like something that just sports talk radio aspect that
didn't age well. But there was just this, oh, what
do we want to do for Valentine's Day? Like that
was something that our bosses were really cognitive, like, hey,
(19:27):
tonight is Halloween. What should we do on Halloween? Like
what we know we should do?
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Uh scariest moments in sports, you know, or it's just
crazy stuff like that. And Halloween it was I remember
it was always hey, who's your favorite sports couple like
that that you know, a dating couple, or who's your
favorite sports duo that play together.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
On the same team.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
And that's what passed for good radio Like. It was insane,
like if you heard that now.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
But you can throw that up and take calls, I mean, come.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
On, like you would just you would just turn off
and you would go, okay, you know, okay, hey Kelsey
Plumb and Darren Waller, Oh sorry, you know I.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
Mean that acting like that that doesn't still happen, No,
but that that passed for good radio like, and that
was something that oh, it was like encouraged that we did.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Oh look at this, look at this fun thing they
decided to do for this holiday, Like for what are
we gonna do for Arbor Day?
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Favorite in trees and sports stand for tree?
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Yes, I hate the.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Stand for tree like, but it was it was an
acceptable way to do things. And it was and I
get that some days you know, you want, you know,
you pay homage to them, and we talk about them
a little bit in certain things but like just the
way that the day took over and we gotta do something.
We gotta do something, and it's gotta be some kind
of theme, and.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
And we got to thread it through the entire show.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
We're gonna go new theme.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
It's gonna be all Valentine's Day. What who the player?
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Who?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
What player do.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
You love the most? Well, it was all great, It
was crazy stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
But that's okay, right, I mean whatever gets folks, uh,
you know that we try to tap into the passions right,
the hate watching, the positivity of who your favorite team is,
the merch you've got right you and and your love
of finding a deal on another T shirt or another hat.
For me, it's the stack of trading cards that that
(21:26):
I go through. I mean, whatever the case may be. Now,
to go back to the original point on the you know,
some folks together, you know, and then if you're alone,
maybe not, you know, that could be inverted to there's
people that have someone tonight right the dating or married or.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Coupled or whatever.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
You know, it might still be a miserable night. Either
you're apart or maybe or maybe you're just in a
rough patch. We're here for you. And if you're You
could be single and having the time of your life.
You could be Sergio dipping it here on a Valentine's
Day by your self, wow, and we're here for you
and we love you.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Either way.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
It's the wide space that is sports talk radio fandom
and bringing your passions to bear. Like you know, all
the folks that watch the video we did with Caitlyn Clark,
I just love watching the numbers go up and some
of the comments love it or hate it. It's good content.
That's what it's all about. So whether you had dinner
(22:26):
for one, whether youkata hogi from someone throwing it from
a crowd, however you're consuming your Valentine's Day, we love you.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
I mean really because part of me was like, boy,
I was really good at planning out topics like this
when I was like ten years old, because my friends
and I would do stuff like, hey, okay.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Today's Valentine's Day.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
All right, let's come up with an all time baseball
team with people who has laugh names to begin with
that have to do with Valentine's or love.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Right, Ellis Valentine? You know, no, we'd say Ellis Valentine's
or Whitefielder.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yes, of course that was Valentine's the right fielder, right,
and then we and we would try to do that, right,
we do, hey all time currency team, Okay, Don Money
is at third base, Dave Cash at second base. Read
Nichols is a center fielder. Like we used to do
stuff like that all the time when.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
I was ten, right, that was That's what it was,
seventy seven, ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
And when I'm ten, I'm doing this and this would
have been a great thing on sports talk radio, Like.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
What I'm thirties.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
You just crushed a bunch of souls of young producers
pondering themes for future shows, for future calling segments or
hours or however you're doing it. I mean, come on,
you just absolutely obliterated that those folks.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
But I mean it's fun. I mean no, no, it's a
fun day. Yeah, Happy Valentine's Day.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Absolutely good to see for all those folks that were
able to, you know, extract a few extra dollars for
dying roses or Bunco Chocolate's good on you.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Or if you just want to go play go with
your sweetheart, that's awesome as well. There's nothing wrong with
that coming up in ninety seconds as we put the
Super Bowl to bed. Finishing the week of the Super Bowl,
what team outside of those two teams from Sunday, meaning
the Chiefs and the Eagles, should feel the best about
twenty twenty five. The answer might surprise you, not Cleveland.
(24:20):
But first let's find out what's trending from a man
who's been called the Ellis Valentine of Fox Sports Radio.
That's because connected to his headset is half a football mask.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
It is Steve Disaga.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
He did appear on an episode of Fantasy Island.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Just for the record, Ellis Valentine, did he have the
half a football mask or no?
Speaker 5 (24:37):
No, They had a Tommy Lesorna episode and they got
some NL stars of the time to actually appear. And
I think the fantasy on the island was Gary Berghoff
was going to become a Dodger pitcher. That was actually
the storyline in the one I saw the repeat here
just recently.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Did they ask tom Tommy, what do you feel about
Gary Bergoff's performance in this You're asking me about his
performance the guy with radar.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Come on, they've got this performance. Can't ask me a
question at water?
Speaker 5 (25:07):
If you fell out of the boat, what.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Did he have eight nine lines in the night show,
yet twelve twelve twelve lines on the show tonight.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
By the way, as we're winding down Valentine's Day, I
didn't mention to the prior show before. You also that
the Super Bowl in two years is on Valentine's Day,
February fourteenth, twenty twenty seven, when it's in LA at
the Rams Stadium. We do have golf Live Golf from
Australia going on on FS one right now and there
are three co leaders and John Rahm, who has finished
(25:37):
his second round out of the three this weekend. He
is four shots back. NBA All Star Weekend got underway
in San Francisco with Team Chris Mullen taking the Rising
Stars Game, won their semi then won their final MVP tonight.
Stefan Castle Spurs rookie is going to be in the
Slam Dunk Contest Saturday night, along with two time defending
champion Mac McClung from the G League. There was the
(26:00):
Celebrity Game tonight as well. There's the Three Point Contest tomorrow,
which will include two time defending champ Damian Lillard. There's
the Skills Challenge tomorrow as well, and then in the
Bay Area Sunday night the actual NBA All Star Game,
which is now a fourteen mini tournament. Each club will
have eight players and the winning team tonight.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Wait did you say fourteen? I thought it was just four.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
Steves fourteen four team.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Too much?
Speaker 5 (26:26):
It is actually and the winning team tonight in the
Rising Stars will be competing Sunday, so we'll see Chris
Mullen again and for each game that night as well.
Same as tonight, the winner will be the first team
to forty points. Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard are finalists
for the Basketball Hall of Fame as our coaches, Mark
Feugh and Billy Donovan. Among the women's committee finalists Sue
(26:46):
Byrd and Maya Moore. Miami Heat owner Mickey Arrison is
a Hall finalist as a contributor and among those given
the Kirk Goudi Award this year for electronic media. Clark Kellogg,
who's been a college basketball analyst for over three thirty
years and Shriment Weekend at the Basketball Hall is in
early September. College hoops on the men's side tonight on
Fox TV UCLA one again at Indiana seventy two sixty eight.
(27:09):
The Bruins one eight of nine. Hockey's four Nations face
off continues Saturday in Montreal, Day game Finland against Sweden
and then US at Canada. Each team plays three tournament
games in this round robin format. Things advanced to Boston
on Monday. Championship Night is Thursday. The Miami Dolphins release
running back Raheem Mostered and also defensive back Kendall Fuller.
(27:32):
The Steelers cut linebacker Preston Smith. The Broncos new special
teams coordinator is Darren Rizzy from New Orleans, so he'll
work for Sean Payton again. The Eagles held their victory
parade in Philadelphia. Sunday's Daytona five hundred TV coverage will
start an hour early due to the weather forecast there
which is not good. The race will begin at two
pm Eastern time on Fox TV, but rain is due
(27:53):
at Daytona around three or four pm Eastern on Sunday
and it'll be windy there. Chase Briscoe will start from
the pole bazoo. This event starts NASCAR's regular season for
the Cup Series. Davis Thompson leads Scottie Scheffler by one
stroke in San Diego Scheffler rank number one in the world.
Rory McElroy is three shots back. Tiger Wood's not playing
this week's PGA event, the PGA Tours in Mexico next weekend.
(28:17):
The Cubs full squad workouts at spring training started today.
Dodgers full squad starts tomorrow. The Dodgers will use a
five man pitching rotation after all until show Aotani returns
to pitch in May. And the Royals re signed pitcher
Cole Reagan's to a three year extension. He was an
All Star last summer.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Back to you, Thank you very much, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
The Jason smithcher with Mike Carmen Lifthtirech dot Com Studios. Okay,
so coming off of this week, everybody's turning the page
to next year and what do we have going on?
And how do we get to where the Eagles are?
They trade for Saquon Barkley. The team who should feel
the best after Super Bowl licks about twenty twenty five
(28:58):
who should that didn't play in the game, So that
means non Chiefs and non Eagles.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
So what team should thirty other teams?
Speaker 1 (29:04):
One of thirty other teams should feel the best out
of all the others about next year the Rams. The
Rams were the team that came the closest to knocking
the Eagles off. And this wasn't even a great Rams team.
This is a Rams team that continues to every year
purge and restart and reload. Nobody has reloaded and that
(29:28):
I can remember an NFL history like the Rams have
done the last five seven years. Every year it's new
players are never in trouble with the salary cap, doesn't
matter about draft picks.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
They find a way.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
They were so close this year, and the big piece
of the puzzle is obviously going to be what.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Are they doing at quarterback?
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Are they fighting a way through whatever difference they're having
with Matthew Stafford right now? Right after the Super Bowl
was over, the Rams put out of videos saying ready
for twenty twenty five, and it's Matthew Stafford coming out
of the tunnel. So I don't think the Rams are
doing something here like I don't think some worker on
the Rams social media team got a little extemporaneous. If
(30:07):
I'm the if I'm feeling good about next year, the
Rams should absolutely feel the most. They seem ready to
run it back, and they should they're gonna add a
star wide receiver to compliment Pooka Nakua. You've already seen
guys say they want to come out here. Davante Adams
has them on the list. He would be a perfect
addition outside one on one stud to replace Cooper Cup
(30:28):
who's probably gonna get dealt someplace else. Like, if they
wind up with that, that's gonna be it. Suddenly, the
Rams are going to be one of those trendy Super
Bowl favorites for next year. But if you're just going
by what we saw on the field, Okay, the Eagles
were the best team in the NFL. We saw that
front to back. Who came the closest to dismantling the
(30:48):
Eagles and knocking them out, it's the Rams. They play
in the NFC, which is the better conference anyway. So yeah,
if I'm the Ram, I feel the best out of
all of the thirty teams.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
Yeah, as we look at let's just keep an NFC
base for the purpose here, right, commanders a bunch of
late late wins.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Does that hold for another year? Maybe?
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Maybe, you know, obviously, personnel moves to be had, and
maybe Jaden Daniels is able to avoid the mid season
rib injury that slowed him down a bit, but all said,
they finished with a flourish I had their twelve wins,
but I'm gonna expect a little bit of a step back. Cowboys.
They are what they are, giants. Even if they're better,
(31:31):
what are they winning another two games, three games?
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Whatever?
Speaker 4 (31:34):
A Lion's changes, Vikings charmed life, Packers solid, but they
need help at wide receiver. They got a lot of them,
just a lot of them. Can't catch bears. In theory,
they're better, but how many wins does that translate to
no clue? Cannibalism?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Rule them out?
Speaker 4 (31:52):
That gets us to the South and the West. The
only other team I would consider alongside your Rams again
looking at the division and the opportunity that is there.
San Francisco with the step back, Arizona Kyler Murray. We
love them, We love them. Marvin Harrison Junior should be better.
But you know, with them and James Connor, is it enough?
What else did they have to bring to the table.
(32:14):
Seattle might get rid of one of their wide receivers
before it's all said and done, and it's still Gino Smith.
So no matter how much McDonald tries to sell them.
Nobody's buying. The only other team that I would look
at is the Atlanta Falcons if things break right right.
Tampa's got some questions the wide receivers. Godwin, is he
coming back or not? Evan's another year older, still magnificent, No,
(32:36):
get me wrong, and McMillan's great. Bucky Irvin's been good,
but you've got some issues in terms of your the
guts of your squad. And New Orleans they paid Kellen Moore,
he took the job. Good for him, so all that
had to say. And Carolina was better down the stretch.
I believe Bryce Young will be better. But how many
more wins does that translate to? From five? So I
(32:58):
think the Rams and Falcons are my two teams by default.
Oh I'll tell you I like the Falcons a little
bit more of a long shot.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
You know. Really, it's it's gonna be just getting through
the NFC, which is a tall task. Because we talked
about this earlier in the show. The best quarterbacks are
in the a f C, best teams are in the NFC.
You get to the super Bowl, you have to think
we're gonna win, right, because we're better than whoever's coming out.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Of the AFC. Right, even if it's.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Allen or Burrow or Mahomes or Lamar Jackson, We're getting
by them because our team is better, our defense is better,
our running game is better.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Everything.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
You got to think you're you're at you're at that point.
And man, while the Eagles are gonna be tough, I'll
tell you lots of teams in the NFC can feel great.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
And I mean it.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
You know, for the Rams, it's not just the fact
that they're close. They're talented, they're gonna get you know,
they're gonna have money to spend. They're gonna be able.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
To replace Cooper Cup with a better wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Sean McVeigh. I mean, this is a guy. The guy's
a genius. He's able to find a way every single
year to win big games. I've seen the Rams with
the Rams with their backs against the wall and it's
and it's a huge deal. And suddenly he finds a
way to beat a team that he probably shouldn't beat.
And you say, the Rams are greater than the the
some of their parts, and as long as they solve
(34:13):
this thing with Stafford, it's gonna be good. You know. Obviously,
you got to go out and get a quarterback this
year for next year. Right, you can't keep doing this.
But Stafford's still playing at a really high level. He
is a clutch performer. He played great in the second
half of the year.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
So you solve this. You solve it.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
And I'm telling you that social media thing that doesn't
just come out of nowhere.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
It's not just somebody decided to show this. It's here's
the Rams ready for next year. And here's a video
of Matthew Stafford running out of the tunnel.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
Think Kien Williams is the baller, you got the young defense.
You need another wide receiver, shore up the O line
a little bit more. H Stafford you need You can't
do the slow start again like that. That's just bad news, AFC.
I gotta pick one team just for giggles. I want
to see what the Chargers look like next year. Right,
(34:58):
They're all gonna look like Jim Harbaugh there. We're all
gonna get operations to look and dress exactly like that
would be. But eleven wins with a passing offense that clearly,
I mean needs several upgrades. What it's all said and done,
So you got them. Bengals are probably gonna lose too
many people in this process. No matter how much Joe
Burrow begs for help, the Steelers will have another random quarterback.
(35:23):
Ravens won twelve, maybe they step back. Jets, Patriots no
thank you, and the Dolphin Steak. So all of that
to say, same usual suspects. So rising from the Ashes.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Chargers exit up bout a Fresco exit, Swallen Dome. Jason
Smith Mike Carmon Live from the tirec dot Com Studios.
Straight ahead, we ask you the biggest conundrum of this
weekend in sports.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
That's next. Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon,
Live from the tirerac dot Com Studios. Where, Uh, it's
a big weekend. Got NBA All Star Weekend coming NBA
All Star Sunday. There's a like Super Mario Kart. There's
(36:23):
like forty mini games before you get the championship game
Sunday night. Oh yeah, but look, you know we've talked
about the the NBA All Star Weekend and what it's
become and everything else, and how it's not quite what
it was. I mean, what All Star game isn't? But
I ask you this question, if you could only see
one thing this weekend, right, one thing? Is it NBA
(36:45):
All Stars Sunday, which means the the mini games that
get into the championship game, Or is it Captain America
Brave New World? You can only see one?
Speaker 3 (36:55):
What do you been now?
Speaker 1 (36:56):
I know you've seen Captain, Yeah, but if you could
only see one and you're coming at it with no,
you've already seen the movie.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
What would you pick the movie again? America? Wow? No
one's gonna give you a free ticket, but you have
to you have to pay again, you know.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
No, that's fine, I'll use one of my premiere whatevers,
I'll use another one. But it was a solid movie,
some some great trailers, some good laughs. Uh, the kids
and I had a good time. Chuck LNA had some
of the one liners and little appearances and references. I
(37:32):
really don't care about the mini tournament unless Dalton connect
goes and dunks on Lebron and anybody else who stands
in his way because he's still pissed about the trade
that almost was. I want to be a whole lot.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
I want to see connect with the ball, like with
the with the clock running down and he's just he's
like a little bit outside of the three point line
and he's dribbling and he does the cameere to the
Lebron like I'm going, I'm.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Like, he doesn't comman. I like that. I want to
see back then.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
If you guarantee me that moment, I'll watch NBA All
Star Sunday and then it's like the end of Rocky
where they ring the bell and then you don't know
what happens after that ding ding.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Uh No, if you give me that, I'll do it.
But if not, I'm picking Captain America. Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I mean beyond that, I mean, we got Daytona five
hundred on Fox earlier in the day.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
That's great.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
You've got the SNL fifty, Like, there's all sorts of
stuff going on. But from a straight viewing perspective, I'll
be curious to see how the the games play out whatever.
But I mean I got a preview of it tonight
with the Rising Stars. Hey, we played a forty. We're
gonna go to shirts and skins. Next, I mean, what
(38:47):
are we doing?
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Well, okay, I think I think that would I think
people would watch with shirts and skins. Oh, just like
just like we used to play shirts and skins. Okay,
well you know, and then we what are we doing?
Speaker 4 (39:00):
Giant vignettes with some great music underneath about the meaning
of everybody's tattoos and how they're interlinked or something. Is
that where we're going for the programming? Like, yeah, a
lower third like near the score bug. All of a sudden,
it's like and you notice the tattoo on his right triceip.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
That would be like if I mean, I don't think
it does. Like if ESPN the magazine still existed, like
that would be the big center spread. Hey, we're gonna
look at the tattoos on so and so and like
the picture is them with no shirt on and explaining
all the tattoos with the arrows pointing to it.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Like that's an ESPN the magazine thing to do. No,
I kind of dig that. No, it's good. Here's magazine.
Speaker 4 (39:43):
Here's your guide to the All Star Weekend. No, no, no,
we're not talking about player backgrounds or anything unless it's
related and conveyed through their tattoos.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
How we tell the story of the NBA through their tattoos.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
If you look at this player's tattoo, this gives you
the entire movie of Midsummer from the beginning till the end.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
You can see all the plot points all the way through.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
I might have been the only one to get that,
but I remember the beginning when they showed you all
the different pictures, like, if you paid attention, that was
the whole movie.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Okay, all right, I like what you're doing there, all right,
that's good. Okay, all right, I think you like that.
All right.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
So Alex ty Shirt Captain America or All Star Sunday.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
All Star Sunday.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Really? Yeah, really? Is that on a menu item that
you're buying a Sunday No? Wait a minute, what what
all Star?
Speaker 4 (40:39):
What?
Speaker 3 (40:39):
What All Star Sunday Sport is going on?
Speaker 5 (40:42):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Okay, and Ruined It's the Plank Show coming up next.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
This is Fox.
