five roads carry Carrie carry Now you gotta drop two.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
By the way, you gotta truck Carrie twenty five roads
for Carrie. All right, Carrie man, how you feeling today
on this beautiful funky flashback Friday, brother.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Beautiful long long day so far, I've been up since
five o'clock doing my good deeds around LA did some
mentorship earlier, went to a career day as well and so, yeah,
I'm here ready to go.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
It's been it's been a beautiful day, beautiful morning. Yeah,
I tell you, I saw, I saw you post something
on Instagram. What's funny is you don't know we were
on the same type of vibe with your suit. I
had that a similar tan little make Obama. Everybody's mad
because Obama water tan suit. I had that on this
on the news this morning too, So we kind of
had the same vibe going on today.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Of course we did. Of course you already know. You
already know. I send it to you just to see this.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
We might have to be if we have a case
we need to drop a nineties R and B group
on us, We need to drop an album on them.
They can be ready for that. I wanted to start
here with you, Carrie. We got the Masters going on. Obviously,
it's the the big tournament. Everybody's watching it down there
in Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. And right now
you got Justin Rose, who is the leader at eight under.

(04:24):
You got Bryson Deshambeau seven under, Roy McElroy six under,
so on and so forth on down the line. Scottie Shuffler,
right now, who's still playing. He's at five hunder as
we are getting closer to the weekend portion of the Masters.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
But you been keeping up a little bit, just keeping
an eye on it at all. No, no, no, no.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I just saw it for the first time when I
walked in, and I am glad to see that Rory
is bouncing back from his turmoil during the couple weeks
ago when he had the encident with the fan. Looks
like he's focused and ready to go. He's sitting in
third and right there in contention. So you know, I
do know quite a bit of those guys just through
passing and hearing about them through bigger tournaments. When somebody

(05:08):
else's plan that will reach will we'll kind of touch
on a little bit. But outside of that, No, man,
have you have you been locked in?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Just you know, like obviously where I work and doing
news every day, we got thirty TVs you know throughout
the building right that are always up and you got
it up there, and we got sportstation in the building.
So where I work at Spectrum News, one in the
building is also the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
We also have the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
So the sports side of the building where they keep
us abreast what's going on. So yeah, keep it in
a little bit. But here's where it's interesting. You say
that because it leads me to a larger conversation carrier
that I was interested in having, and you'd be also
the perfect person to have. And Rob and I have
kind of talked about this a little bit throughout the
you know, our time together as well.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Yeah, and that is one you just mentioned. A bigger person.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
You said, you know, you're not keeping up quite like
you did when a bigger person was a part. I'm
gonna jump out on the limit say that bigger person
was Tiger Woods. You know, I'm no genius. I'm no genius,
but I would imagine that's who you're talking about. And
the powerful thing about anything having a Tiger Woods like person,
as you know, whether it be a sports league, whether

(06:18):
it be Essay, it's the lead actor or actress in
a film, is that it brings in the casual fan.
You know, it brings in the person who's all right, well,
you know, I'm not fully a golf fan, a baseball fan,
a hockey fan, a movie fan, whatever, But such and
such is in it. I gotta keep it up in
that regard and that's I'll give you a couple examples.

(06:39):
So if you weren't the biggest baseball fan in the
summer of ninety eight, well, when Sammy Sosa and Mark
maguire were doing their thing chasing the home run record,
everybody was stopping.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
You might not even care about. You're like, oh, baby,
hold on, that's that market Mickey Mickey, Mark Mickey.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Who is that with a dude? Yeah, him, he's up
to bat. Let's watch. Set me to the black guy. Man,
he's Dominican. Well he's black today, like you know, people
and people were watching because of that.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
And I think that's one of the things here we
are where you got.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Some stars and Roy McElroy, you got Justin Rose of course,
some names that if you're keeping up with sports a
little bit, Scottie Scheffler as well, you know some of
the names Phil Mickelson, of course. But it's it's not
the same as when Tiger was there. And so this
is a conversation I was thinking about today. I was like, man,
talked to my guy Carrie on one end, how bad

(07:31):
do you think golf misses him? Just the excitement, just
a casual fan, just the must sy, just to walk
by the TV and I gotta stop because he's up.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
He's teeing off.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I got to see him make this putt on the green.
The popularity, the social you know, the late part of
his career, kind of the social media end of it
as well. And then also me and Rob have talked
about you thought you'd get a boom specifically with black players.
Not necessary, I think, and I think you can attest

(08:02):
there was a bill. There's been a boom when it
comes to the recreation end of golf over the last
twenty five years because of the popularity atticker, a lot
more brothers, a lot more people of color, a lot
more communities who maybe weren't out there on the golf course,
who maybe didn't feel represented on the golf course. It
didn't necessarily feel welcomed. There was a boom recreationally, but
we didn't get that boom care we thought we would
get on the actual course when it comes to players

(08:23):
to stars in the game, and I likn that to
what we saw at the Williams Sisters. We got the
Naomi Kasaki's right, we got the Cocoa Golf's, the Madison Keys.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
You can got a point to it and I'm the
only name in a few there's more.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
You saw the residual effect of that on the actual
tennis market as far as professionally, So just your thoughts
on thought we could see more of a boom when
it comes to actual persons of color playing the game professionally,
being stars in the game, and then also how much
he's missed or someone like him when it comes to
helping broaden the game and helping.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
People be interested who aren't necessarily golf.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Yeah, I think it starts at the house, right, it
starts at home. I think the bigger picture that I think,
the bigger scope of this picture right now is it's that.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
And I think that's what's missing.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
Right with Tiger, he was introduced to the game by
his father, right, so have been that parental figure, that
person in your life that kind of introduces you to
something that you know, maybe you weren't interested in at first,
but you kind of get that glimpse of I want
to be like him, I want to be like dad.
I want to be like the friend, the mentor, and
then you get into the game that way, and then

(09:34):
obviously you start to love the game and get better
at the game, and the next thing, you know, you're like,
I'm Tiger Woods. I can be Tiger Woods. I think
that's the part that's being left out of this discussion
because it's easy to talk about the race part of it.
And I think the race part of it is a
part of it because not too many black fathers in
South Central are introducing their kids to.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Golf, right. I mean, it's not flash she it's not
considered fun.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
A lot of times there's quiet on the course, Like
just the discourse around it is a little bit slow
and a little bit quiet for you know what.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
I mean, like that the bit on Kysa County, let
me should be I'm a grown man exactly.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
If I'm all the way down the street exactly.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
But I think that's the part of it that's missing
for you know, for for the black community and in general,
right like to be introduced to it. That's how we
always got our sports right as kids, Like somebody around
you that you admired or wanted to be cool with
played football, basketball, maybe even baseball, which is still kind
of lacking as well, but they liked it and then

(10:43):
all of a sudden, you take it, You took a
liking to it, so then you go to the next
part of that and it's Tiger had a great had
great success during this time. There were a few sprinkled in, uh,
people of color that played the game and played it well,
you know, go go outside of the African American culture.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Right, go Vay.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
So yeah, like those type of people were in it
and were really good. But I just don't think it
was exciting enough or it wasn't being introduced to our
communities enough for us to really really take a liking
to it outside of being casual fans of it.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Also, I think too and you can get ready to
join in on this A seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. I do think,
right as maybe there would have been another boom as
far as continued growth and popularity. A couple other things
happened too, right, I think UFC starts to become a
thing more right, and you start to get more fans
in that, you get more people into that, you get

(11:37):
even just more athletes. That's that's a very diverse group
of athletes when it comes to UFC. I mean, you
can see a little bit of everything there. So I
do think that may have played a role in it
as well. And then just to the boom of social
media taking all of our attention period, not even necessarily
from to another sport, just consuming us in ways, becoming

(11:58):
streamers right, becoming online influencers, And so I think that
may have played a role as well. But again, as
I was keeping up with it a little bit, watching
seeing what's going on, seeing the scores in the scoreboard,
and I was thinking, like, man, this is you know,
if Tiger, who you know, got injured and it keeps
hurting himself and pretty much is you know, not gonna

(12:19):
be He's no longer gonna ever be what we got
a custom seeing, like, man, the game misses him. Just
from that standpoint, I was like, man, I wonder what,
you know, do they feel that as well, not necessarily
the athletes, but golf as a whole, Like, man, we
still need that star that resonates. You know, we have
the conversation in the NBA Lebron is gonna be leaving steps

(12:41):
out of here in a couple of years, Kad the
old Guard and Westbrook and hard Who's gonna be the
face of the league. And I wonder if golf continues
to feel like do we have a face of our
game now or is it just gonna be through a
multitude of people. I'm wondering how they plan on attacking.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
That, right. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
You know what's crazy about golf is I don't know
if it needs that that megastar. I mean, it's it's
the tradition of it all and the way that it's
carried along throughout this process. I mean, they've obviously had
stars in their mixed up and intertwined during this run,
but right now it's I think the parody is is
a really good thing for them as well.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
I mean it's a good point. Yeah, think about it all.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
I mean, right now the top three rows Deshambo and Mackilroy, Right,
we know those names. You got Sheffler, that's a little
bit down. I'm looking at it as as it's as
it's on right now, and I think the idea of
not knowing who's gonna win it will continue to draw people,
draw likes, draw views. But as far as it being
like I guess popular in the culture, that's I just

(13:41):
don't know it.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
This is the game, you know what I mean, Harry,
ain't nothing like a Sunday with tiger wearing red. I
don't give a dam what you're doing. I agree with Tiger.
Wearing red is the.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Reason why Rod Parker is single now. Carry okay, he
on his honeymoon and she's like, oh babe, what do
you want to You want to hang out?

Speaker 3 (13:57):
You want to do this? Baby?

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Hold on, targas on, come on, How are you gonna
ask me to do so?

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Did you want to go walk the beach and hotands?
No way, no how? Why got on a red polo
oh Man.

Speaker 2 (14:14):

with him, get closer and closer. Carry to the NFL Draft.

(14:49):
This is when it starts to get interesting. Storylines start
to change. Teams put out one thing, they put out another.
We're gonna go no, We're now, we're going quarterback. We
can't stand any of the quarterback prospects.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
We're going to do this.

We'll treat you a whole bunch of stuff soup, plus

regarding that. Uh, looking forward to the conversation. And also,
I got something coming up for you too. As a
music man. I told Ryan said, we got to add
this to the show. So we'll do that a little
bit later on a little little music conversation for you,

and unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has the protection,

Of course the way tire buying should be, all right, Carrie.
So we got a couple more days of the NBA

(15:43):
through Sunday, and of course we'll know how everything situates
when it comes to the playing tournament. Then we'll know
the seedings for the actual playoffs and it'll be good.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
We'll be off and running from there.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
But I also wanted to have this thing since this
is pretty much the last time we'll be doing the
ID couple before the playoffs are all that, Let's do
our own NBA Awards ceremony, if you will so, well, Uh,
let's start it off. Let's start a little lower. Let's
go with maybe Coach of the Year. Let's start there.

(16:14):
We'll work our way up. We'll do Coach of the Year,
maybe we can maybe do We'll do Defensive Player of
the Year, We'll do MVP, maybe even Rookie of the Year,
depending on time. But I definitely gonna get those three
and Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year,
and MVP as well. So who do you have right
now as Coach of the Year. Uh, there's a few options,

(16:36):
I think, I've I've heard We've had plenty of guests
over the last couple of months. Who's you throw out
this name, throw out that name? But for you, who
strikes it up for you? As you're saying, you know what,
everybody else has had some good the great season, but
this person, I gotta give it to him.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
Yeah, I mean the coach of the Year should be
undoubtedly given to JB. Bickerstaff with the Pistons, right, I mean,
you can obviously have Cleveland's coach Kenny Atkinson and that
in that mix as well, for he did with Cleveland.
But Cleveland was already, you know, a team that was
ready to compete and ready to win, just needed a
little bit of tweaking here and there to get them

(17:09):
where they are now. So as far as just a
complete overhaul with the team and coming with the team
and taking them to newer and greater heights and actually
having an identity, it goes to JB. Bickerstaff for me,
what about you? It's funny you mentioned that that's the
same thing I thought.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
And I know a lot of people say Kenny Akinson,
A lot of people email Udoko, which completely I was
just by saying, I completely can understand that. I mean,
we you kind of thought of Houston as an afterthought.
He gets there and he you know, now all of
a sudden they're a real contending team, a little young,
and I think a lot of people are gonna have
say that that save Oklahoma City mindset of a I
got to see it before I believe it thing. But

(17:46):
they they are definitely a very interesting team heading into
this postseason. But for me, it's j B Bigger staff. Look,
when you win fourteen games, when you lose twenty eight
in a row, twenty eight in a row, yes, like
the Pistons did last season. I mean, that absolutely has
to have you right here in consideration. And then you

(18:07):
look at not only it's not as if they're just like, Okay,
they won some games and they've had an improvement.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Dude, they're forty four and thirty six there.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
I believe they're up at least last time I checked,
they were up today against the Bucks. Down three now, okay, halftime.
So but let's just let's say they messed around and
won this game. Now you'd be forty five in thirty six.
I mean, what an improvement. You know, we're already sitting
at a thirty game improvement at forty four wins. And
there's conversation we had Eddie House on if you listen

(18:38):
to some other NBA NBA analysts that man, they might
mess around and beat the Knicks. Yes, they've already beat
them out through the season. You know, they've kind of
had their number, and it's an interesting conversation of man,
not only so it will be different. Oh, that's just cute.
They got in and they you know they were better. No, no, no,
they're a real team that you're gonna have to beat.
They're not in the playing they're the sixty. They've got

(18:59):
it online and to me, they have a chance to
make so noise. So we agree on that JB. Bickerstaff.
But again, I know there's gonna be some consideration for
a couple other coaches as well, and rightfully so, because Cleveland,
I mean I knew they'd be good. We knew they'd
be a postseason team, maybe finish in the top four
in the East. We didn't expect sixty three wins. That's crazy.

(19:19):
So I gotta give Kenny Akinson what he's done with
Cleveland f some love. But I think for me going
and knowing they're gonna be good and they should be good,
as they should have been even better last year when
it came to the postseason. That's why JB gets the
nod because nobody expected this a thirty game turnover from
the Pistons.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
Yeah, no, it's it's just been remarkable to see, man.
I mean, obviously we go back to the Detroit Piston
bad boy era where they had some success. And the
thing about them right now, right they've dug themselves out
of the hole that they were in, I guess, the
obscurity that they were in for such a while now
by actually adopting that same brand of basketball, which is
fun to see, especially from a guy like me from

(19:58):
you know, being a vio watcher of the NBA around
that time. To see them come back and kind of
do what the same way they did it when they
had their most success, it's just kind of cool to see.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
I love that they're embracing it, you know. I mean
they're they're not doing that. No, we don't want to
be there. We know what they're not. Yo, we the
bad boys. We're gonna be tough, We're gonna represent for
the city. I love it. I think it's the beautiful thing.
I understand sometimes different teams when I have an identity,
when it when it, you know, be something different. But
I just love that they're embracing this. And I love
the cities getting behind them.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
All right, let's go to the defensive Player of the Year.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
What's funny about this one, Carrie, is most of the
guys that are in contention are low key.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Lou Dort's low key. Von Zubatch is low key.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
It would have been win Ben Yama's without a doubt
if Winby wouldn't have got injured. I mean, my gosh,
he's gonna be special. And I think that's part of
what makes me special is he's so skilled offensively, but
he cares about defense too. You know, he wants to
be great at defense and so uh so, dang it.
You know, we're wishing him the best of speedy recovery.
But Draymond Green has been a politician. Carry he is

(21:01):
taking any platform letting him know, including his own. Hey,
I want to win the fensive Player of the Year. Hey,
what's your favorite color is green? But by the way,
I want to be fence play the Year. All right,
if you go to Los Angeles, dude, you love in
and Alberger, Yes I do. But by the way, I
want to tell you that I want to be I
want to defend Player of the Year, and so that's
what I'll just stay with it. For me, he is
my defensive Player of the Year right now. And it's
not because he is politicking for it. It's because if

(21:22):
you watch this team, man, it's just remarkable at this
stage in his career the level of guys he can guard.
Watching him the other day when they're playing the Lakers,
he's guarding Lebron, you know. Then you watch him another
night he's guarding a SA Bonus. You know, he's watching
a big seven foot probably got twenty five thirty five
pounds over him. He's guarding bigs, he's barning wings, he's

(21:43):
picking switches. He's got to guard smaller guys his IQ
on the defensive end. So, I mean, I know he's politicking.
I know that's kind of some people. It turns them off.
It's it's a you know, like a guy telling me
he wants an awar so bad. Yeah, But when you
watch them play, what he means to that team defensively,
being the quarterback, it is parkable to see and with
Weinby out to me and Jaron Jackson Junior, not you

(22:05):
know who's won it before, not necessarily looking amazing defensively
this year, to me, I think it is Draymonds to
be at it is.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
I mean, it's Draymonds, and I agree with you one
hundred percent. Man, he's letting anybody that wants to hear it,
and anybody wants to hear about it know about it.
He's letting him know that he is the right man
for the job. But I mean he is when you
watch him play. I mean, like you said, the versatility
and the way he can guard and who he can
guard as a player. I mean it's unmatched because it's
his size as well. But I mean obviously defensive MVP

(22:35):
is one of those things, man, where it's such a
team award really when you think about defense, like nope,
I mean you can stop one guy and still lose
a game bout fifty points, you know what I mean.
So right, right value of it is it's high. It's
still a high award in my opinion, because it's an
effort thing. But it is a team thing. And I
think when you look at the you know, the Warriors

(22:57):
right now and that turnaround this second half of the season,
that added to the fuel for the fire for him
to actually be in in the running for it, because
that's true. If it was true, yeah, because if they
were continuing the way they were playing, I don't think
we would be hearing him as much. But the fact
that they're winning, and they've been winning since the All
Star Breaking, he's had a big hand in that.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Yeah, I'll hand it to Dramond.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
All right, Ryan, you there, let me hit you give
me a Alex, give me a drum rolls. We get
to this MVP conversation, right, this is the one we've
had arguments on.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Rob and I go at it.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
People go at it when we have the guests on
the show, and you know what, it reminds me of
a little bit of the Josh Allen Lamar Jackson where hell, okay,
you that you're that drum roll? You notice I moved forward.
Let me tell you, Sheila e is not in there
right now. That was the worst drum roll somebody is.
You know what that was, Carrie. That was a Friday drummer.
That's Friday.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
I'm tired. Yes, yes, it's been a long week. That
drum one. That drum roll wasn't even rolling.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Look I'm looking at him as he do as he
did it, and I was like, yeah, that's not it.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
That's not what she was that Alex Ryan, So I
can know who to cut out? Ohould I tell on them?
Yeah it was Ryan, forget it, Yeah it was Ryan.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
You're Ryan. I don't even know if that was a shot. Ryan.
Somebody might need to give you a shot of espresso
right now. That grim ro.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
Alex, you better give me one two. I know you
probably have one in your sound bank. You got something
in it that you can hit. But no again to
the MVP reminds me of Josh Allen Lamar Jackson, where
all right, both absolutely deserve it, having phenomenal seasons in
this case jokis and SGA. What do you like? Do
you like a guy who's having more team success? Do
you like a guy who's who can play both sides

(24:33):
of the wall. Do you like a guy who are
doing things we've never seen when it comes to number
guys's with sixty point triple doubles in jokics.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
So it's a difficult one, it is.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
And also the story, this is why I was telling
Rob so long Josh Allen's gonna win MVP, because Lamars
wanted a couple of times and people go like, ah,
I'm a little tired, No way, no, And I was right.
This is reminding me of that Jokis has three sums
to say he could have had four. Some say maybe
could have had five. You never know, And I think
some people are like all right. But for me, the

(25:03):
defining difference and why I give it to Sga is
because when your team has a eighteen game better winning record,
you're the other guy's eighteen games behind. That's a massive difference,
you know what I mean, Like, he's not five games behind, six, Okay,
it's tight eighteen game lead against a team, and a

(25:26):
team that is supposed to be, you know, one of
the better ones in that they got a guy who
is you know, been an MVP so many times in Yokis,
you maybe expect them to be competing for the first
seed a second seed. For them to be fourth currently
and be eighteen games behind, that's that's the main thing
for me that edges out Joki. And also Sga is

(25:49):
playing fantastic on the defensive end as well. He's one
of the better wing defenders in the league. And it's
great to see a guy who embraces who can score
thirty plus for three years in a row and still
gets you great, great, great defense on the other side
of the ball. I'm talking narrowly, but I give it
the SGA. He's up eighteen games in the win column.
He plays defense, and he's giving you thirty plus a night.

(26:12):
That edges it out for me. But again it's one
of those if you say, Jokic, I'm not mad at
you who you got.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
Yeah, you know what's crazy about about the MVP, man,
it's it is what you said. It's a combination of
all those things, right, And so the thing about that
award for me, it's it's become to a point now
where it's a little tainted for me because the best
player in the league should be but they never have.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
No Michael Geordan only having five, as a said, Lebron
with only four, it's crazy, you know, shack with one
like they never have.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Yes, And that's why I agree with you. But you know,
because because Jokis is the best player in the league.
But this year, this individualized year, this one single season,
I mean, this team has, I mean the best record
in the NBA. The team success does matter. I don't
myself like really like watching sg a play and that's

(27:03):
just my own personal thing, but you cannot, you cannot
take away from its greatness, and it is.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
It the free throw line, getting all the files, the
new modern James Harden, it really is.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
It annoys me because when those when those calls are
given to certain players and it's not giving other players,
and you watch that happen in real time, it's put me.
It just puts me off a little bit. But he's
a great player and he is deserving to win the
MVP this year, so I would say he is the
m v P.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
No, no, I know, it wasn't.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
I know, it wasn't a glowing endorsement, but it between
it's between.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
Those two, and I would give it the SGA. I
would that was not that was the equivalent. That endorsement
was the equivalent of Ryan's drum roll. That's that's what
you said. It like SCA had a gun behind your back.
You're like, yeah, yeah, I guess I gotta give there

(28:00):
on that right there? All right, you know what, let's
open it up eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox
since the NBA is gonna be in and over the weekend,
and obviously we don't have a weekend show the Odd Couples,
so we want to.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Hear from you.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
You liked our picks, SGA. We both agree for the MVP.
Both agree on Jmie Bickerstaff as well. Do we agree
on Draymond Green too?

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Yes? We did. What the heck is the clean sweet?

Speaker 1 (28:21):
We are not the odd couple right now, We're sppoke
to odds right now, I'm about to change. Matter of fact,
I'm gonna pretend you didn't say SGA since you didn't
really want to.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
Well I didn't. Yeah, so I'm jokis there? Team.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm Eastern,
four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
That's right, one more hour for us.

Speaker 1 (28:45):

Rob having a day off a rarity for my guy.
We are coming to you live from the tire rack
dot Com studios. Tire rack dot Com is gonna help
you get there in unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road,

Tire rack dot Com the way tire buying should be.

(29:06):
We got a couple more things they hate coming up again.
We're gonna have a conversation now some NBA conversations and
all I'm gonna throw a little music one for you,
Carrie at the end of this hour, man, you know,
in honor of Coachella, Yes, which is happening this starting
this weekend and then also obviously next week. It's a
two weekend thing. And then they go straight into stage

(29:27):
coach as well. You ever been a coach out just
out of carryouts before? We know, we talked about that
a little bit, but you've been there. I've never been,
never been. Have you been out there?

Speaker 3 (29:35):
I have it? You know, it's funny. I'll tell you
a quick story. You know.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
I do the news out here in La and I'm
on my show and we were doing a little segment
on like who was gonna be there? And said, am
I too old to be at Coachella? And mind you,
this is like five six years ago, right, so I'm
even younger than I am now, and I'm just being
funny tongue and cheek, and then they're like, no, we
were having a little fun segment. Later on, I get
a DM from a council member out there actual, you know,

(30:01):
somebody on the city council board or something like, hey,
I watch you all the time lovey show. No, you're
not too old. You would have a blast. There's more
to Coachella than you think. Come on out, you have
a great time. So it's it's like, come out next year.
I got you, you have a great time. I was like, oh,
this is amazing. You know what the next year was COVID.
Oh you missed it? Yeah yeah, and then you know,
the next year others COVID and so and then after that,

(30:23):
you know, obviously years go by.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
You know, I had another kid. I just forgot about it,
you know.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
But so that was my dang it. I had a
shot at going to Coachella. Now I'm too old and
I don't know if I.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
Can have a Oh I can't handle it. So yes,
I know that for a fact. Yeah, people stepping on
shoes and all that, you know.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
So but we'll talk a little musical little coach a
little bit later on in the show, looking forward to that.
You know what's interesting For the last probably fifteen years,
there's been an interesting relationship we've all seen play out
in our face, and that is Shaq and Dwight Howard's relationship.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
And Shaq, as.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
We know, can be sensitive at times, can be a
bully at times, yes, can be hilarious and funny.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
At times that's just Shack all all things encompassing.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
And so one of the persons that he tends to
go at is Dawhite Howard and whether that was his
gameplay or lackterof And one of the things that I
love Shack drives me crazy about Shack though, is he'll
say things like, I was the most dominant force ever,
nobody could be let me, I was the one.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
I'm one of the best ones you've ever seen. But
then they'll turn around and say this, Shack.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
At halftime of Bernie Johnson, here, Shack, what did you
think of such and such performance? It was terrible? He
should be doing better. He should be giving me s
l N. What's that shock?

Speaker 3 (31:45):
Shock?

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Like numbers like everybody can't give you if you're one
of one, right, you're this this great, This is a
freak of nature, amazing, all time great. But then on
the flip side, everybody's supposed to putting up numbers like
you like that can't be either you or just that unique,
that special, that that talented, that did the different.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
And then there's the rest of the guys.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
You get what I'm saying, like, everybody can't be Jordan,
everybody can't be Patrick Mahomes, everybody can't be Tiger Woods,
everybody can't be Shack. But he was always on Dwight
Howards And I think back and I think a part
of that was Shaq was the man in Orlando for
a pamful of seasons before he went to the Lakers. Well,
Orlando drafts Dawhite, he becomes the man, takes him to
a finals, four time defensive player. He's just he's that guy.

(32:27):
I think Shaq might have felt a little something about that.
Shaq was one of the more entertaining guys in the league.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Fun.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
We loved him. He was just jobio. He was personality.
Dwight kind of became that fun Everyone loved him dancing,
cheese and smiling and kept Get the Dunk Contest alive
for a couple of seasons and came out as Superman,
which is what Shack has tattooed on his arm. And
I think his own partner, you know, Kenny Smith, Oh,
Superman is in the building. Superman is in the building.

(32:56):
And I think Shaq took that like hold on, hold on,
wh I had the nerve to become a Laker as well.
So I think there's a little bit of that, like
he's following him my footsteps.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
He's kind of you know, I don't know if I
like that, but I set all that to say.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
That's what made it interesting that Dwight Howard said one
of the persons I would love to bring me in
for my Hall of Fame, you know, And you know,
as I'm being enshrined, it's Shaq. And I was like, whoa, wait, whoa.
I thought there was beef there. There were some issues
so on a play with Dwight had to say on
Dan Patrick and then I want to get your thoughts

(33:30):
here we go.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
You think you and Shaq will ever be friends?

Speaker 5 (33:36):
Yes? We Actually I saw him in Orlando. Actually after
I was inducted into the Hall of Fame. I was
out at a restaurant eating with my family and my
friends and the owner said that Shaq was actually at
the restaurant, and I said, I'm going to go talk

(33:56):
to him, and everybody was like what I said, Yes,
I want to go.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Talk to him.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
I got up, went over to where he was at,
shook his hand, asked we have a minute. The loan
and we had a real good conversation and I was
very happy about it. We expressed some things, and yeah,
the next time you see both of us together, we'll
talk about the stuff that we had a sit down about.

(34:25):
But it was a really good talk and I'm glad
that the universe everything worked out perfectly.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
That is actually amazing that, yes, the person the day
he puts it out there and the end of the
day he's announced he see Shack at a restaurant, you
know what I mean? That got God through Malyut Like,
go ahead, do that. But your thoughts on just kind
of their relationship. They're dynamic, and Dwight wanted him to
be the guy to bring him into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
I think that's the that's the coolest thing I've heard today,
to be honest, just coming from Dwight's perspective. Dwight didn't
have to reach out to that guy. That guy's been like,
you know, Shaq's been really really hard on that hard
on Dwight for a long time. Man. And like, like
you said, not even for his play really, because his
play speaks for itself. He's a Hall of Famer right

(35:09):
at the end of the day. But just like you said,
comparing himself to to d White. Dwhite never has to
be compared to Shaq, you know what I mean? Like
that that doesn't even the conversation, doesn't that conversation doesn't
even get him, no, And so like the fact that
this guy is like constantly berating him his whole career

(35:30):
to get to this point to actually still want to
mend that relationship and make that relationship a viable thing,
and actually have him be the one to, like you said,
be a part of your Hall of Fame ceremony. I
think I think the whole conversations around this is just
my adoration for Dwight for being big enough to actually

(35:50):
do that and make that relationship stronger on his behalf,
for him, not for Shock. And that's kind of where
I stand with the whole thing. What about you, Well, you.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Know what, I again, I think one of the things
I think we've learned about Shaq, He's gonna speak his mind,
he's gonna be just gruntled about things, He's gonna pick
on people at times. But I also think we know
Shaq has a really big heart, and you know, and
you know this, I think Dwight has been proven that
he does too.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
He's never been a mean guy or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
I think when two men get in the room and
you know this, and I think you probably know this
even more now on this side of media versus being
the player, you gotta speak your mind, you gotta say
things in some days.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Listen, I'm on two different.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Microphones every day. I am on TV News every single
day live. I do this live every day with Rob.
And you're gonna say something you didn't really mean. You're
gonna say something, or you had a bad day, or
that person had a bad game or day you took
it out, maybe you're a little too hard or just
so on and so forth. But when you actually sit
down and get in a room like we were trying
to do, believe it or not. I don't know if
you heard about that with RG three, Rob, Yeah, we're

(36:54):
trying to, you know, get those two to what happened.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
I'm not it just felt through.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
They fell through, couldn't figure out and come to the
same agreement on a couple of things.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
So I'll just leave it at that.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
But that was the goal, because when you get two people,
two grown men who don't have real hatred, right, it's
not like it's beef on the street. You didn't slap
my mom or something crazy, you know, like we can
sit down hash it out. Look, man, I was on TV.
I was having fun. I was just poking fun at
you or another person. Hey man, I don't know if
you knew that. I know you were just trying to
be you know, critical of my game. But I took
it personally because you would bring up da da da da,

(37:26):
and you can hash these things out. So I love it.
I love to see that. I love to see men
be men. I love it when I saw Magic Johnson
and Isaiah Thomas, and that was different because they were
actually best friends for a very long time, best friends,
and for them to not speak for decades and finally
hash it out and tape it for all of us
to see.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
I thought that was therapeutic for all of us men.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
To see two grown, famous, successful men who had gone
through their own personal struggles and battles and then to
sit there and say I'm sorry, I love you, and
you know, let's get back to it and hug and
cry it out.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
That was amazing.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
That's one of my favorite moments from from you know,
seeing pro athletes kind of hash some things out. But yeah,
and I also say this, it made me think too,
who would you have bring you out if you were
inducted into the Hall of Fame? Not your not a
family member, not because I think that's kind of a
given a father, mother, Maybe if it's an uncle or

(38:19):
somebody who's in life, but a non family member. In
this case, it was shocked at shock for Dwight, who
would it be maybe in the sports world, just to
keep it kind of somebody who had an impact in
your life.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Who would that be for you? Yeah, I'll keep it
in the sports world, man.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
And when I came in as a rookie to the
New York Jets, I had I had a great crop
of veterans there when I got there.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
To kind of show me so many ropes, show me
how it was to be a pro.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
You know, I was a rookie coming in and you know,
I started from you know, I started from day one
right like I was thrown in the fire. So having
to grow up really quickly and learn how to do it.
There was a special teammate of mine who's still one
of my really good friends right now. And to think
and you know, like in this whole process We did
talk for years, right we went he ended up going
to a different team and we kind of fell off

(39:04):
a little bit, and you know, but we reconnected a
few years later after we retired and literally sat down
at dinner and it just picked up right where the
old times were, man, and it was such a beautiful thing.
And that and he's part of the Fox family too,
so it's it's it's actually cool. But Jonathan Bilma, So
he would be the one. He would be the one
that would I would definitely call to walk me out.

(39:26):
That's my brother, one of the best guys out there,
student of the game, somebody I love man as a brother,
So that would be my guy for sure.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
I love it, man, I love hearing about those great
relationships for me. Uh, it would have been not that
I played professional. I don't know if you knew that
I didn't play in the league. I just want to
make sure you use.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
I saw your stats right beside me sitting here while
say yeah it was why why is it page?

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Why is it page? Blake, don't do me like that. No,
but I think it would be awesome. You know, it
would be the late great Greg Harden. I don't know
if you're famili with him. He was my best friend's father,
and he was just g Harden for me. You know, look, ga,
but I didn't realize at the time how how much
he meant to so many people. His passing and his

(40:12):
celebration of life last year. I mean you had Michael
Phelps was there, Uh, Tom Brady, Tom Brady did a
special video for him. Charles Woodson, my good, my boy,
Desmond Howard was there.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
He meant so much to so many people.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
He was basically a sports council, sports therapist, sports just
uh you know, guru, if you will have Michigan and
helped athletes of all athletes, not just I mean gymnasts,
baseball players, helped them with the mental aspect of it.
As you know, it can get tired. We all we
are non professionals under that. But it would have been him,
but he passed last year. So rest in peace of

(40:48):
my man G Harden. But my coach Swift back in
high school, Man, it's amazing to have great people like that.
Coach Swift for me was that guy that just took
a liking to me, was hard on me, expecting greatness
from me, and but also knew how to motivate me
and also knew how in the middle of the game
if he needed me to lock down the other, you know,
team's point guard, he gave me that look like, all right, man,

(41:09):
clamp him down. And then fast forward, he ended up
being part of Derek Jeter's foundation. He kind of was
helped run that and had me speak to the kids
and do some cool stuff and you know, we check
in with each other, and so he's just been a
great guy.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
We like you said, we don't talk all the time.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
Years went by, but I know what he meant to
me then I know what he's so proud of me
now to see where a little crazy kate up with
the girl to be and so he would be the
guy non family just to come out there because he
knew the athletics side of me and just and he
kind of seen me throughout the year.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
So that's always cool and special.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
To have that. How cool was that though, to have
that person to you know, like, I think that's kind
of what we do, me and you individually, which I've
gotten to know you here better as we've done more
and more shows and talk, but just that mentorship and
how big it is and actually stepping in that role
and using it for the greater good and not demeaning guys,
especially when you done that thing. Like really, that's the

(42:01):
part about the whole Shack and Dwight thing that was
kind of frustrating for me from afar right point. You know,
you shocked, seen and actually gone through some of the
same stuff and has been attacked by people that he
looked up to.

Speaker 3 (42:14):
Right. He always talked about that story with.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
Him and Kareem, like, why wouldn't you change that and
do something else for the for the youth or for
somebody that you see that can be as great as you.
And that's why I always had a little negative discourse
when it came to that conversation.

Speaker 1 (42:28):
Yeah, I mean, you thought, that's one thing Shaq you
would love to see, And I'm not gonna I'm not.
I will reserve the idea that maybe he does it
or we don't know. I'll reserve that, but to knowledge
you would love to see Shaq Dwight Man come to
the crib chop it up. Here's a couple of moves
I've did. Here's how I dealt with the pressure of
being a Laker. Here's how I dealt with the pressure
of being a superstar in the NBA. Here's a couple

(42:50):
of little things. Here's here's my guy who's a you know,
a specialist with shooting whatever whatever it is. You know,
you'd love to see more of the mentor aspect of
it versus the Hey, you're not putting them numbers like me,
then you're not great. Hey, you know you're not dunking
on everybody like I would have did. Hey, you don't
have four rings like I did. It's like, all right,
we got it, we got it. You're one of one.

Speaker 3 (43:12):
We know that. I did think i'd want that, all right?
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
Did you think this was strange for Dwight Howard to
ask Shack to bring him in the Hall of Fame?

Speaker 3 (43:23):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox?

Speaker 1 (43:25):
Or you think it's cool to see guys bury the
hatchet If it were you and you were Dwight year
