It is The Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio.

rag dot Com the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
All right, It's the Eye Couple. Chris and Rob our
number two on a worship Wednesday. And Rob we know
one of the biggest stories in the NFL revolves around
Dak Prescott and he's looking to become the highest paid
quarterback or player in NFL history, and the Dallas Cowboys
(01:23):
right now so far have not poonied up that money.
And Dak's content if he has to play on you know,
the last year of this deal. He's fine with it,
knowing that if the Cowboys don't give it to him,
somebody else likely will. So this is gonna be interesting
to see how this goes. Of course, the Cowboys have
(01:43):
a history of, you know, playing trying at least appearing
to play hardball with some players, but at the end
of the day they generally cave and give the player
what he wants. But Charles Halley, who won super Bowls?
Was it Super Bowls or Super Bowl with the Cowboys?
(02:05):
But you know, I think most of it he went
with the Niners. He's a Hall of Famer, uh he
but he he won. So me won five super bowl
I knew.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
He wanted to how many with each team? Man?
Speaker 3 (02:18):
He won three with San Francisco and two with Dallas.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
I mean that's that dude was was a factor to
say the least. And anyway, he came out, Now, do
we have sound of these guys where he said that
they should in his opinion, the Cowboys should go ahead
and trade Dak Prescott. Let me see if I can
(02:44):
find Uh, it sounds like we don't have sound of it.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Maybe it was just something we do have it all right,
here we go.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
He kept back glowing everything so now he screws. So
now he you know, you know Bill came to and
he doesn't have the money to be able to do that.
And so what he's gonna have to do is he's
gonna have to find another way around the saddle cap
or push a lot of older guy's salary cap way back.
(03:14):
And then you don't know whether these guys gonna play
one year or two years, and then all of it
come do again. So he played, he gambled a long time,
and now the time is up. So I can tell
you this trade that just put him up for the trade.
Guess what every team in the league be after him? Yeah,
every team in the league. Dak is a winner. Dak
(03:34):
is a great person, a great leader. I know, I
go up there all the time, ceedee lamb, quiet guy leader.
He wants the ball here at Jerry Wright, just.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Give it to me.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
I want And so how do you how do you
not keep those guys together?
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Well, it's interesting, Roy, I mean the way he talked
about Dak, He was like, I don't want to trade
that guy.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
But where are you at on this? You you think
they should go ahead? I mean I trading for who
and what? And I mean, it's just too much.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
I think Rob, it would just be it would be
basically draft picks, you know what I mean, kind of
starting all over at that position.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
I don't know how that's starting all over.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
None of it makes any sense because I do agree
that at some you gotta make a decision.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
You can't keep prolonging.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
It's like we talk about all the time, Chris, the
price doesn't go down, like like you got to make
a decision.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Is he your guy?
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Is he not?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
And just you have to bite the bullet, right, You
have to pay, You have to pay up. It's a
quarterbacks or premium. So many teams that don't have any
like I don't know. If you really don't believe he's
that guy gonna get you to the super Bowl, then
move on. Just just move on, as hard as it
might be, you know, then then move on. But to
(04:51):
play the middle of the road on the fence game,
is you gotta you've had enough time to evaluate him, Chris,
This ain't one or two years have had enough time?
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Well, Hally's right in that the way he said, Jerry
just keeps pushing.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah, And I mean the fact that Dak was.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Getting forty million a year on this last deal, Rob,
remember when it was like people were saying they shouldn't
give him thirty a year, if.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
They had given him even it was even lower than that.
I remember having discussions is he worth twenty seven a year?
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I remember that number two.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Right like?
Speaker 4 (05:31):
And if you had done that then you'd be, you know,
in a lot better position than you are now. And
so I it's just Jerry's indecision, and I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
I mean, look, we.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Know how hard it is in this league to find
a great quarterback, and every blue moon, Rob, a team
without a great one wins, right right.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
But you have to be so excellent everywhere else.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
That and I actually think Rob, it might get less
and less that we see the average quarterback win a
super Bowl. It just feels like there's so much, you know,
the game robbed because of the rules. I think the
game is even more dependent on the quarterback nowadays than
it ever was. And it always, of course that's the
most important position, but now I think, because of the rules,
(06:26):
is even more so.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
And so if you've got a guy that's in the
top ten ish, which is where Dak is, I do
think Look, and I know he's had his struggles in
the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
I mean, and I'm not defending at two and five
in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
One in four and and.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
I don't really want to.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
I mean those that want to try to defend what
he did last year against green Bay stop it.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
I'm with you, quick.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Yeah, I mean you were down, you were in a hole,
and he was bad and h but he was bad
and he threw picks, pushed that set up green Bay
for easy score.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Wasn't on was one of pick six?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yes, yeah, I mean, don't make it like, oh, the
defense has collapsed.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
No, we put the defense in a bad spot a
couple of times.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, it was both.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
I mean we're not saying the defense didn't play well either,
but he You cannot put that on the defense and
act like Dak played great.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
I've said that about some of Aaron Rodgers' playoff games,
and I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
It about Dak like.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
Rob.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Green Bay was up big, and of course, you know,
as we've talked a lot about with Dak, he rallied
him when and not even rallied him, like to get
back in the game, really, but you know, to put
up some points and some big numbers and make it
look like he he may not have been the problem,
but he was a big part of the problem. And
(07:50):
then the year before, like there's some of their playoff
games Robin vinded comically and so all that said, though,
I do think you can win with Dak. I'm saying
that I think you can win the super Bowl with
him if everything is in place. But I feel like
(08:11):
Rob Jerry Jones, and I've said this before, he may
be saying, you know what, before I give you.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Sixty million, you're gonna have to prove something to me.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
And I don't know. I don't think he's saying we
have to get to the super Bowl or win it.
But man, I need to see you play well in
the playoffs, and I need to see you win US
a game in the playoffs or two, like.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
If you get all that. But I don't know how
you get around it, you know, Like.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
I think they're hoping Trey.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Are they hoping that he plays poorly so they could
pay him less? You know what I mean? Chris Like, no, right, right, Well.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
I'm saying if Dak, yeah, if Dak plays great. And
I said this about Trevor Lawrence, Rob like or Tua,
you know, because I'm I'm one that's like, I'm not
ready to pay two yet, but if he goes out
there plays great, then I'm willing to and I'll pay
a little tax on it, right because I did. Wait, Jerry,
like you said, Rob, you would think you've seen enough
(09:11):
to pay Dak, right, I mean, I.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Mean he's been around for a while now.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Yeah, he was almost MVP last year, so I you know,
it's interesting what they're doing, but they they their financial
situation is a mess because CD wants the big money,
Micah wants the big money you got Zach Martin and
obviously Dak that you have to pay so they financially, Rob,
(09:37):
I mean again, it's just mismanagement, it appears.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Which is but a typical Dallas Cowboys because we've seen
this before and Jerry always seems to Chris Andy up
at the like he delays it, but he always and
he's up and he ups the money. So he could
just take this out of the conversation and just get
it done and just say we got this kid. You know,
(10:04):
we got a team in place. We're not trying to
reset the clock, Chris, We're not trying to find somebody
else now and hope that we Jerry Jones is the
clock is ticking on Jerry Jones.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Seriously, Chris, really.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
You want to start the clock over for five years
from now. I just don't see how you can do that,
Not when Jerry's already in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
That's not it.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
But more than anything, he wants to win again because
he's in the Hall of Fame. But nobody gives him
the credit, Chris, not since he took over.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
And I think more than anything, rib he wants to
do it his way.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I don't know if he would admit this, and I
don't know if he even feels it, but when.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
I look at his actions, Rob, I feel like he
would rap. And again I get he probably doesn't look
at it this way, but I kind of feel like
he'd rather lose's his way then win somebody else's way.
You where you at on that, I mean, he won
(11:09):
somebody else's way, and you know with Jimmy.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Johnson, Yeah, No, I think I think it's about him, right.
He he only wants to win if he's in charge.
Because if that wasn't the case, Chris, he would have
done something a long time ago. And we talk about
it it's a family business. He got more relatives all
over the place, and his son is the you know,
as a GM or making like like I don't know
(11:34):
how you could just look yourself in the face after
thirty years, Chris and just think like you're doing something
right like that, Like at some point, don't you just
go can you go get the Can you go get
somebody else? Can you go get some football people? Can
you stop running the Dallas Cowboys like a mom and
pop store?
Speaker 4 (11:53):
What you just said it when you emphasize the Dallas Cowboys,
this isn't the Lions, right, this isn't the Seahawks, this
isn't the even the Buccaneers. I mean they've won, you know,
they got Brady, but you know what I mean, like.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
This is the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, even with.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
The thirty years of futility, rob what do they have?
They got the three but they have five super Bowls,
So they're still like one of the winningest franchises ever.
With your three decades of nonsense, and so when you
have made the Dallas Cowboys into just kind of an
(12:31):
entertainment spectacle, you know, but not a real super Bowl contender.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
That's that's just bad. That's a bad job. That's all
that is. Rob That's just a bad job.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
It's a terrible job. And unfortunately Cowboy fans have known it, Chris,
They've seen it. And Jerry's ego is too big. It's
just too big, and he wants to win his way.
He does not want to win what he somebody in Chris,
go get it. Imagine you go get a GM and
and somebody else and they go and put together and
(13:06):
make the way decisions and then you win a super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Right? Can you imagine that?
Speaker 3 (13:11):
This would say he's happy? But would he really be?
Speaker 1 (13:14):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (13:15):
He would be because it would be like, look what
happened if Cowboys went out and got a football guy
and then they won the next year?
Speaker 1 (13:22):
That that's what would be the conversation.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Jerry finally gave up the rains, Chris, and they finally won.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Imagine how many more they could have won had he
done that years ago?
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Right?
Speaker 3 (13:33):
All right?
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Eight seven seven ninety nine On a Fox as your
Turn the Way in Uh, Charles Haley Cowboys Great says
that they should trade Dak Prescott.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Are you on board that?
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Do you think they should trade him and just go
with Trey Lance or look the draft a quarterback in
the future.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
What are your thoughts, Dak or.

Haley says the Cowboys need to trade Dak.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Your thoughts all right, let's kick it off with Joe
in Texas. You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (16:18):
What's up, Joe, My guys, Charles Haley is a legend,
and he is correct that is not with them for life.
But it's time to trade them away, start all over,
get rid of his salary cap. All he's done is
put up garbage points and the biggest gamest creat mistakes
at the beginning of the game. Put the team down
by two three touchdowns, and then you'll score in the
(16:40):
garbage points against those backups. So yeah, it's time to
move on. Let's start fresh. That dance with man and let'
see what we could do.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
You got all right?
Speaker 1 (16:49):
I hear you.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
I hear you if that's it, But I'm asking you
about Jerry Jones. He is he start trying to start fresh,
Chris on a new five year plan?
Speaker 8 (16:58):
That I mean, at some point he's got to start
fresh with something other than both TSI he wants to
see a ring, get in with Dak. Let's move on
right now.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
I hear you, boy?
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Is he is he looking like, hey, maybe we put
a I pay CD, I pay Micah. We got great
players everywhere else, and let's see if we can get
a young quarterback by rookie deal.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
You know that that can make good. Get lightning in
a bottle somebody?
Speaker 5 (17:25):
Right?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Uh, justin in Syracuse. You're on the odd couple. Fox
Sports Radio. What's up justin?
Speaker 4 (17:32):
Now we're doing guys, Thank you you too?
Speaker 9 (17:37):
All right, Well all summer. Jerry Jones, I believe, I mean,
going back in history, don't think the Dallas Cowboys ever
paid a quarterback top dollars first of all and second
of all, Dak Prescott. I mean when we when we
see him in the playoffs and we look at the
playoff like we see him playing against a quarterback like
two years of a row who was at last pick
(17:58):
of the draft.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Kid and lose, right, that got fault.
Speaker 9 (18:05):
But you know what, yeah and lose and it's now
that got fault. But you know what, you could trade
him and get almost just the same amount of gameplay
by a lot of quarterbacks in the league, or even
maybe try out a trade Lance who we still haven't
seen his production with the personnel around him, which got
the first guys always had.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Well that's a nation in a hole, right everybody was.
Maybe that's the nations in the hole. At least if
you're going to go that route and say, you know what,
Chris as you just said pay the other guys and
just say let's put him in there. The forty nine ers,
were they that far off? They they traded up to
go get him, you.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Know what I mean? And all that he got hurt.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
He only he only had a couple of coffee in
the sweet role as a quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Let's be honest, right when he played three games? Five games?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Yeah, it wouldn't. I mean, we we look, we really
haven't seen him play.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
I mean, and I think you know, we've heard Mike
McCarthy talk about glowingly about him or in the offseason.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
I do think Rob, Look, number one, they.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Probably want Dak to have a great season, lead him
to the super Bowl. But after that, if he doesn't
play well, they're just hoping maybe Trey emerges and gives
him some confidence that he could be the guy to
replace that.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Right, Will in Wisconsin, you're on the odd couple Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
What's up? Will?
Speaker 10 (19:26):
What's going on?
Speaker 6 (19:26):
Chris?
Speaker 5 (19:27):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (19:27):
Rob?
Speaker 10 (19:28):
Happy summer there to you gentlemen here.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Absolutely, thank you man, you too.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Oh absolutely.
Speaker 10 (19:33):
And when I think of the Dallas Cowboys their situation,
I'm reminded of that one Matthew McConaughey movie the Dallas
Buyers Club. Well, instead of the Dallas Biers Club for
the Cowboys, it's the Dallas coaches Club. As you said,
Chris that does have skills to win with someone, but
he's not winning where he's been at. So having a
Dak Prescott, having a sort of malaised kind of presence
(19:55):
in the postseason are all symptoms of the larger sort
of issue when it comes down to having an ownership
structure that hasn't been conducive to having that strong coach.
It is no it's no fluke that with a strong
coach Jimmy Johnson, with great players, they were able to
eke out a you know, an identity as being a
dynasty that hasn't been able to happen because of that
(20:18):
ownership structure, because of how they've taken a look at
filling those coaching positions. So until they get that rectified,
there isn't a situation you can bring into Dallas a
quarterback wise, player wise that that's gonna you know, drive
it to excellence.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Now, look, you guys know I'm big on I think
the Cowboys don't have the culture to win and some
people think that's hogwarsh, But I just think when you're
your owner is the face of the franchise, when your
owner is the guy talking after every game right outside
of the locker room, that like it disempowers the head coach.
(20:59):
And I think, you know, guys know, if they have
a problem with Mike McCarthy, they can go around his
back to Jerry Jones. And that's that's what I mean.
I don't think that's conducive to getting it done. And Dak,
there might be a part of Dak that is like, Hey,
I'd love to go to a Pittsburgh or somethingwhere strictly
football and I don't have to deal with this madness.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Yep, thanks, well appreciated. Innis in Corona, California. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Innis?
Speaker 6 (21:26):
Hey, guys, Rob, welcome back and Martin. Hopefully Martin's chilling
better after he got trashed by Fernando yesterday.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Yo, Fernando laid into Martin, told me I should hear it?
Speaker 2 (21:38):
He said, so it had sure.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
He was probably afraid to leave the studio last night.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
What is that?
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Fando?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Fernando had no mercy, man, God, that was a trap, Martin.
I want to hear it now. I mean I gotta
hear it now, all right, when you got.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Callers calling up referencing it.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
But anyway, I think they should trade that because, like
they're they're not gonna win with him, Like even last year,
they had an opportunity there and they blew it. And
but as a person who doesn't like the Cowboys, I
want them to keep that because two years ago, Ezekiel
Elliott ended the season at center. Last year they got
Max in the at home. So I'm dying to see
(22:21):
how they're going to lose the next playoff game if they.
Speaker 9 (22:23):
Don't trade him.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
But they should trade him, get as many fixed as
you can and start over. I know Jerry doesn't want to.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Do that, but uh, you know old Jerry is.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
He's just he's been around since.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (22:40):
Sorry, but I butchered it so I know you were ready.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
Though A shot man right there right the t for
you on goodness.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
All right, Thanks thanks for listening to The Odd Couple Podcast.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Any of the Team USA today?
Speaker 2 (23:19):
No, I didn't get I was traveling back from so
I didn't get to see any.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
Yeah, they routed Nicola Jokic and the Serbian national team.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
I just read a little bit about it. Right Ad
in the world Right A D and yeh A D
has been great, but Ad has been phenomenal. Who else
was the other player that kind of bottled them up?
Staff had twenty BAM Right.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
Well, A D and BAM have played a great defense,
and Bam Bam had a great game today. I think
he had about fifteen points eight board something like that.
But Anthony Davis and Bam Rob have played much better
than Joe l Embiid.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Embiid hasn't had a good game yet.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
He filed out of the first game in like something
like thirteen minutes, twelve minutes or whatever it was. And
he's been missing shots and playing, you know, less than
just about anybody, and he's just not been very good.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
And I do think that.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Things are favoring Anthony Davis and Bam out of by you.
I don't want to go as far as to say
the international game favors them, but at least so far,
the way the games are being played are a lot
better for them because of their energy, their quickness.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Their athleticism.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
They can guard out on the floor and also of
course protect.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
The rim and embiid mbid Rob as great as he.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Is, and this has just always been the case. He's
got a a lethargic game. I've always called it a
lazy game.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
But but it's effective, though, Chris.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
It's effective, but it's effective in a certain way. Like
so this team has so much talent, Rob that the
ball is popping, it's moving quickly, right, and that's not
mb mb gets it, you know, holds it a little
wild and everything slows down, and it's not He's not
(25:28):
holding it in the post. He of course is doing
that on the perimeter and it slows everything down. If
he would go inside more, I would think he'd be
a lot more effective in this game, this international game.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
But today he got some great.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Dimes from Lebron and Steph Curry and he didn't finish.
Some people are saying, you know, we talked to fart
Mark Funky Cole Medina. He said he doesn't think he's hurt.
He hadn't heard that he's hurt. Others are saying he's hurt.
He doesn't healthy.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
I'm just tired. I mean, it seems like every time
we talk.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
About Joe LMB, he's not healthy, but he's playing right,
and so I just I think Rob, he's not looking
very good at all. Everyone else to me on Team
USA is basically winning this summer. Joe LMB right now,
I don't think he is. He's not helping himself at all.
(26:26):
Even as you know, they look poised to win a
gold medal.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
But but can't they carry him christs Yeah, you know what.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
It's just individual. Yeah, they don't even need him to
win the goal.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Right.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Remember they are getting better every game you talked about
me in Canada. They were up twenty four in Australia,
let them back in the game, probably let their foot
off the gas, and then today handled Serbia, just routed
Serbia after the first fifteen minutes or so.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
They're looking really good.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
They could even though Anthony Davis has been better then
Joel Embiid and Heck Bam out of Byue for that matter,
they could continue to just start EMBIID if they don't
want to ruffle any feathers and start any problems, and
he just won't play as much. And they have so
much talent, Rob, that they'll be able to get away.
(27:19):
I don't see anybody beating this team. You know, we'll
see if they have some good games. But they just
they're they're looking good. They're getting more and more comfortable
with each other. And even if EMBIID isn't playing well,
remember Rob, they don't even have Kevin Durant yet. I
say yet, you know, assuming they're getting back, but he's
not even playing yet.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
And you know he's easy to fit in. There's not
gonna be anything.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
No, no, no, he can go anywhere, right, he can play
with anybody, any kind of situation.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
He's a plug and play Chris kind of guy. Yep.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
But but my question is, if you're EMBIID, would you
maybe bow out that you're not feeling you.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
Know, no, I mean I haven't heard him say he's
not healthy, and I don't know it might come off
to some like it's an excuse.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
Rob.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
I don't know. I mean, I the question.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
You know, there's been no official talk about him not
being healthy. It's kind of just been like he's working
himself into shape, right, he hasn't been able to go
as hard because of his health, but it seems like
they kind of feel like right now he's okay.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
But Rob, I just get tired with Joe LMBI.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Like his health Again, it's not like Kawhi where he
just sits out. He plays, but there's always this cloud
over him, like he's not fully healthy. So he's not
able to give you really his complete a game. And
that's what I get tired of.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yeah, that's different, right from a Kawhi who's out who
and play at all?
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Right?
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Yeah, but embiid it's weird Chris because when he started
last season, man, he was m v P. He was
he was on that on that right, he was playing
the lights out and and so we know it's in there.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
We've seen it.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
He's won an m v P, played like it until
he got hurt a year ago.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
His past year. I should say and and, but I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Uh, it's just frustrating more than anything, Like you say,
they should win. They're poised to win, whether he's a
big part of it or not. So if you're an
Embiid fan, you're probably just frustrated Chris more than anything.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
But does that is that going to change anything? No, No,
that's what I mean.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
He's gonna get a gold Man, right And yeah, and
I think to Rob would again and I just hate
to keep beating his dead horse. But we know he
loves to play on the perimeter, and I mean they
don't They don't really need him out there because they
got so many other guys and if he is out there,
(30:03):
they needed making quick decisions, fast decisions, moving a little
bit at least a little bit, and he's not really
doing that, and so you know, at times it looks
like he's kind of getting in the way. But it'll
it'll be interesting. Look, it's three games. I wonder if
they'll keep him in the starting lineup. Steph, Lebron and
(30:25):
Embiid have kind of seem like, you know, they're they're
automatic starters. And Steph and Lebron have played well. Lebron
was very good today eleven points. You know, has some
great just offensive play moving the ball, driving to the basket,
some nice passes. As I said to Embiid that that
didn't get finished. And then Steph of course shot the
(30:48):
lights out.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Points.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Yeah, so they're they're good. Rob there, this is a
really good team.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Is good to be entertaining or not? And what I
mean by I think the composition well to be like competitive,
to make you want to watch or after a while
you'll say this is a four going conclusion, right and
I'm not really interested.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
Well, you remember Rob when they had the uh after
the Dream Team? Now the Dream Team, everybody watched because
you know, it was the first time we sent in
the pros. We expected blowouts, so we got them, but
we kept watching.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
And then Rob.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
You remember it in the nineties, you know, we'd send
other teams that weren't quite the Dream Team, but they
were great. What Larry Johnson didn't shock play Mark? You
know we had like, that's a lot of great players
that weren't on the Dream Team. And the games Rob
were unwatchable. I mean they were winning by forty five,
they're up thirty in the second quarter. You know, it
(31:50):
was just they were unwatchable. I don't think we'll get
to that point. I think some of the games will
be like that.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Yeah, that's what I was wondering, Right, will they even
be worth watching? Because there's a degree Chris, you want
to see your team win, you know what I mean obviously,
but there's another thing where it's just like it's just ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
It's a waste to talk, right.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Right, Like today Serbia played Serbia lad for you know,
the first quarter and a half essentially, and it was
like it was actually a good watch, you know. I
was like, man is yokis gonna be able to beat
all these superstars, you know with.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Players right right?
Speaker 4 (32:32):
And then Team USA just ran away from him, and
like they said, it just was right. It was it
was no point and to continuing to watch at that point.
So all right, it is The Odd Couple Chris Brusard
and Rob Parker, of course, brought to you by tire
rack dot com.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Uh Brandon Aiyuk of course has asked to be traded.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Rob didn't get the weigh in yesterday. He'll do so

(33:43):
Brandon Ayuk, who is scheduled to make fourteen million dollars
this year, star receiver for the forty nine ers. You know,
he's watching Justin Jefferson and all these guys get paid
thirty million plus and he wants his payday and he
the reports are that the Niners may be offering, you know,
(34:04):
around twenty six million, which is no, that's not chump change,
but they haven't been able to come to an agreement.
So Brandon Ayuk yesterday requested a trade.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
Now, Rob he has said.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
He was on the Pivot podcast with Ryan Clark and
Clark asked him which team he believes he will be
playing for next year and he said probably the forty
nine ers.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
So I don't think he's planning on holding out. We
know that.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
You know, that doesn't always work when you're when you
still have a contract. And so do you think this
is a big deal or pretty much much ado about nothing?
Speaker 1 (34:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
I just I always question teams that don't pay people
who purdue. I do, so there's a chance because normally
you just want to sign those guys make them happy.
It's also a morale for other people who are in
the organization, you know what I mean, Chris rewarding people.
(35:13):
I don't know what he hasn't done. I know he
didn't have a great playoff game. I don't know how
healthy he was at the end of the year, right,
but he's been But he's a versatile player.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
He makes that team. Yeah, he makes that team better. Like, like,
I'm just.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Why this is dragging on when other guys who haven't
produced or done nearly what he's been able to do
Chris have gotten paid and you got the rookie quarterback
not making any money, you know what I mean, Like,
there's a lot of things that would make me feel.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
A little a little bothered.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
It's a numbers game, I mean paid, right, Bosa has
been paid, McCaffrey's been paid, and they know next summer,
they're gonna have to pay party. So I think it's
just you know, but you don't want to be the
money to go around, right. But here's here's the problem
(36:15):
for Ayuk and he's he has no leverage. They have
him under contract this year, Roub, they have the option
to franchise him, as you know, for two years after that.
But beyond that, let's say he held out and took
it to the nth degree to the wall, Well, he
would lose the fourteen million this year, and he you
(36:39):
know how it works in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
You get no closer to the free agency.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
It's not like, oh okay, you're you you lose the
fourteen million, but you're still a free agent. No, You basically,
you know, are standing still and you're still just as
far away from free agency and the big pay day
as you were before.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
So that's why you hear him and a.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
Guy like t Higgins with Cincinnati who's not happy that
they franchise tagged him.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Uh you know, say yeah, we're we're gonna play.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
Even though we're requesting trades, because they're just it just
they have they don't have the leverage. And so I
think I don't think the Niners are going to trade him.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
They may end up settling at some number.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
But even if they don't, I think that they know
the best thing for him to do, just for his
whole career individually is to come out and play great basketball.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
I'm sorry, great football, and so yeah, I mean I
think that's what's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
He's in a barrel. I mean, that's that's the bad
part about that league and the way the structure is.
It's it's just a shame on the Union, Chris to
put players in these situations where it's one sided. It's
all one sided. It's the it's the franchise. The franchise
tag makes no sense. It just doesn't because because you
(38:03):
have no leverage no matter what, and then you don't
if you don't play like you know you still that
doesn't forward you into being closer to a free agent
like that.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
That right, that's a big thing. That's a big thing.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Where you're frozen and we still got two more years.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
Go ahead, sit out two years and we still have
two years. Well, Rob the last guy to do it.
Now it looked like he won big time, and financially
he did. But the last guy to do that that
I can recall, of course, was Deshaun Watson. Rob His
career is he's never been even close to the same
player what he set out. It felt like he said,
(38:42):
did he sit out two seasons? It's yeah, because he
got you know, he was sat out a year and
then of course everything went down.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
He was suspended.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
So it's basically like two years and Rob, we'll see
what he does this year. But I mean, you're talking
about a guy. He was Rob, he wasj Stroud.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
You know he was.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
He hasn't look anything close to guys where he was.
It's amazing, how but but and it didn't work out
for Le'Veon Bell either. But it's not when you really
think about it, Chris, this is this is high level sports.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
You can't sit out. People are getting better every day.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Dudes are too good, right, The difference between you and
the next guy isn't that much, all right, Keep it locked, acable,
