Rob Uh and specifically Damian Lillard didn't even play Game

one against the Pacers Bucks Pacers, and he at the
end of the game, him and Tyre's Halliburn start getting
into it and it looked like, you know, hey, they
might really actually get into it and have some issues.
And then last night they have some more issues. A
couple of times the whole benches were clear, this is
what Halliburn had to say.

beef and they go at it and it was okay,
Like there's a beef going on. Make you have to
earn it, be physical and have to overcome that.

And the league really have become really soft. Halliburton like

Smile, my god, Like when you look at him, all right, light, bright,
damn there, yellow or whatever you want to call him,
but you hear my boy, like, you wouldn't think he'd
be a bad guy at all.

think it was last year. He hits a big shot,

All right, that's how we're doing young blood, Okay, And
I like that these young guys are going at the
older guard. It's all respectful. They're only doing it because
they know who you are. They know what your legacy is.
And I'll give you another example. I love seeing how
Ann Edwards is like yo, Lebron James one of the
best players that to play basketball, and I want to
get him the heck up out of here.

I mean, I'm just enjoying that. We're seeing the competitive
edge back. We're starting to see guys going at it,
getting chippy and chirpy, even the Magic had a couple
of moments and in their game before obviously before the
game got out of hand, but when they were going at.

so and I get it.

The League David Stern did this with the fighting like
if you were the second man in that was it
was helpful, like the great.

A lot of people think that cost the uh the
Suns because remember when they threw Steve Nash into the
scorers table and everybody kind of came out, and Mary
came out and like yoyo, what's going on?

And he got kicked out.

Well, that also happened in the Nixon Heat in a
playoff series. There was a there was a fight near
the Knicks bench, so of course it was hard to
reframe the players from getting involved because it happened right
in front of them, whereas the Heat were down on
the far end, so their coaches stopped those guys from
coming down. So the Knicks had like six or seven

players suspended, and the League didn't do it wasn't fair
because they instead of like suspending all of them for
one game, because they wound up be in a seven
game series. If you suspend them all, let the Knicks
lose with a shorthanded team, then they would be full
straight and you have a game seven. What they did
(06:35):
was they took three or four off one game, right,
so they were always under man for both games, and
the Knicks lost the next two games and they were
up and they lost the series.

I think what we saw, and David Stern talked about
it got blessed Dad.

He talked about how I think we let the league
go too far.

In the late eighties early nineties because they slug it

the guy and just screamed, I don't want him to
do anything exactly over you know, you you file somebody hard. Well,
we gotta go review this review that it was a
hard common fu Come on right when you hear the

this is getting ridiculous. All right, this has come on league.

It's one thing, and I get it, like nobody wants
to brawl, all out brawl of people swinging on people.

beefs are good. And I'm with you. I'm enjoying like
the little chatter and going back at it.

you got head coaches and players going at it.

And he about that only thing about a coach and
a player. You're not only court anymore, like if he was.

But the reason I like him saying like like like
you can't do anything about it, as like if you're
a play I go at you.

The reason I like it though, is because it just
if your coach is going, he's all in, he's buying
the team, he's loving you know, he's supportive, and now
you want to go out.

I mean, I'm running through a wall from our coach.

So it continues to keep that animosity up and keep
that energy level up. And I just I just really
enjoyed that, man, because like tonight, were probably gonna see
Chagoon and Draymond kind of be you know, passionate and
going at it. So I just I think it's great
for the league. I think we heard Adam Silver talk
about the ratings were good over the weekends. I think
people are just kind of interested because again it's just competitive.

It's a little more aggressive, and so I'm really enjoying
that energy, spirit, that fight back and looking at fight
right now. You got the Orlando Magic fighting right now,
down two with a chance to make it down one
and with a free throw on the and one here
with the less than fifty seconds in the half, first half.

So that's my thing. I love it. It's great.

Nobody's asking people to really nobody an Thomas and Michael
Jordan hate each other till they die. Nobody's you ain't
got to be that getting ulcers from your bitterness and
hatred towards a player. But competitive talking smack and Edwards go,
you know, going at Lebron, going at Luca, and like
I said, the hard files in the Celtics game, and
with the magic filing Jason Ton, nobody asking to hurt them,

but hey, higher playoff files and the Knicks Pistons getting
agitated getting at it.

I think it's great for the game, and it makes
you feel like they really out they want it. They're
not just satisfied that they make a bunch of money.
They really in the care and their passion. That's if
you're playing basketball. I mean, I don't why are you playing? Okay, yes,
everybody's getting paid. Don't you want to win? Like I
tell you all the time. If we're keeping score, I
want to win. If we're not keeping if we're not

keeping score, then all right. I could have fun in
the backyard or with friends or just whatever.

There's no score. The score Okay, I'm trying to win
the game. I'm trying to win whatever we're doing here.
But as somebody who's covered the league since nineteen eighty seven,
and I've seen it evolved, Yes, I've seen it evolve.
I thought the league got way too soft and took
out that edge.

I don't want.

Brawls, I don't want fights, I don't want all that.
But I wanted to be competitive. I wanted to be physical.

We've had it the Laker, that Clipper Clipper Denver, when
Jamal Murray lifted up Norman Pole, like literally, I don't
know what he was thinking, Manti, what was your man thinking?
Or that was she's not a nugga fan, but he
was lift them up and normal pot and they got
into it.

The whole teams got into it. A bunch of texts.

I just yes to your point, care passionate, intense, and
a lot comes with.

of it. It doesn't have to be. And I think
you're right. They overcompensated because there was a brawl's happening

I thought that was over the top. I always was

Taking an overnight flight on a private plane where you
don't even go through the airport. The bus dropped you
off right at the You're not going through TSA, You're
not doing any of that. There's no reason that I
need to wear dress up to get on an overnight
flight to the West coast and.

This stadium and walking for my car in the tunnel,
and I gotta have a.

Yeah like that, I didn't understand. I thought that was.

That was just fear that the kid was getting too
urban and getting to hip hop, getting too street and

change the ball, at least consult with us. We're the

get everybody you know together on a roster. You know,
they all play on Team USA. You know a lot
of them end up attending these powerhouse prep schools, i e. Montenvert,
and that's just the mentality they come up with. But
rob again back to the eighties. You know, Doctor j
and Larry Bird, two of our luminaries in the game.
Like there are some serious films. They did not like

each other, Magic and Larry as much as they were
responsible for bringing back the NBA. You know, that competition
was fierce, you know, and that's why they got Magic
got his five, Larry Bird got his three. So you know,
in terms of Somebody's series, I'm loving the new generation,
the young Bulls, I either Rockets coming up against you know,
those frizzled veterans you know that are still hanging on

the Warriors teaching them lessons. So it's good for NBA,
good for basketball. You know, we need more of it.
Enough of this load management taking games off, you know
because you have a you know, a sore thumb, you know,
or you know, no, no, no, get out there, grind
and earn your championships.

The League David Stern did this with the fighting like

A lot of people think that cost the uh the
Suns because remember when they threw Steve Nash into the
scorers table and everybody kind of came out, and Mary
came out and like yoyo, what's going on?

And he got kicked out.

Well, that also happened in the Nixon Heat in a
playoff series. There was a there was a fight near
the Knicks bench, so of course it was hard to
reframe the players from getting involved because it happened right
in front of them, whereas the Heat were down on
the far end, so their coaches stopped those guys from
coming down. So the Knicks had like six or seven

players suspended, and the League didn't do it wasn't fair
because they instead of like suspending all of them for
one game, because they wound up be in a seven
game series. If you suspend them all, let the Knicks
lose with a shorthanded team, then they would be full
straight and you have a game seven. What they did
(06:35):
was they took three or four off one game, right,
so they were always under man for both games, and
the Knicks lost the next two games and they were
up and they lost the series.

I think what we saw, and David Stern talked about
it got blessed Dad.

He talked about how I think we let the league
go too far.

In the late eighties early nineties because they slug it

But the reason I like him saying like like like

The reason I like it though, is because it just
if your coach is going, he's all in, he's buying
the team, he's loving you know, he's supportive, and now
you want to go out.

So it continues to keep that animosity up and keep
that energy level up. And I just I just really
enjoyed that, man, because like tonight, were probably gonna see
Chagoon and Draymond kind of be you know, passionate and
going at it. So I just I think it's great
for the league. I think we heard Adam Silver talk
about the ratings were good over the weekends. I think
people are just kind of interested because again it's just competitive.

It's a little more aggressive, and so I'm really enjoying
that energy, spirit, that fight back and looking at fight
right now. You got the Orlando Magic fighting right now,
down two with a chance to make it down one
and with a free throw on the and one here
with the less than fifty seconds in the half, first half.

So that's my thing. I love it. It's great.

Nobody's asking people to really nobody an Thomas and Michael
Jordan hate each other till they die. Nobody's you ain't

I think it's great for the game, and it makes

tell you all the time. If we're keeping score, I

the backyard or with friends or just whatever.

the game. I'm trying to win whatever we're doing here.
But as somebody who's covered the league since nineteen eighty seven,
and I've seen it evolved, Yes, I've seen it evolve.
I thought the league got way too soft and took
out that edge.
