You're listening to the best of the Odd Couple.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
All right, We are joined now by Christian Clark covering
the Mavericks for The Athletic. You can follow at c
clark Underscore thirteen. Christian, what's going on? A stamping and
how are you?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Guys, appreciate you'll haveing me on no doubt before we
even get to the game. Just to need the response
down in Dallas from Nico Harrison's quotes, which is ridiculous
press conference.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
With any grid meeting.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
There was no video or no audio, which I don't
know what that was about, but anyway that he has
no regrets. What's been the conversation down there about about
his comments?
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Yeah, and obviously has not been well received. You know,
Nico is basically like, you know, I feel like we
made the right decision. I don't regret anything he said.
Defense on championships about one hundred times. Look, I don't
think they maximize the return for the trade. I asked
(01:21):
Nico about that. He said, I feel like we did.
You know, it has not been well received.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
It was just a strange event too.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I mean, we got an email, you know, a a
handful of media members in the market, local media members
and dulas got an email the day before and said, hey,
we're having this roundtable with Rick Welts and Nico Harrison.
You no cameras and you can't bring audio recording devices.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
We eventually talked them into allowing us.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
To record it with our own audio recording devices, but
there were no cameras.
Speaker 6 (01:48):
But but it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
You're a reporter.
Speaker 6 (01:51):
Do you want me to quote you accurately or not?
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Right? Am? I?
Speaker 6 (01:54):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Like like that's ridiculous. And what about the TV people
in town. I'm sure they were happy about no cares.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
It's it's truly bad footing. I don't I don't know
what to say.
Speaker 6 (02:06):
Yeah, and then and let's say this crazy. Here's the
other thing.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
I just want to follow up and Kevin and I
have talked about that, and I just this is not
a basketball trade. What what did he do to to
not want them to pay him three hundred and fifty
million dollars. It can't be about basketball. He's an international star.
We know all the accolades, everything he's done. This is
(02:31):
we're not given this guy.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
Yeah, what what's the scuttle butt?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
I really don't think it was. It was one thing.
I mean, I think, you know, you look at some
of the some of the diet, some of the conditioning, like, yeah,
there was there was flaws, but the guy played and
he played at a high level. I think, you know,
I think one interesting detail that that you know, we
at the Athletic reported a story pretty recently was you know,
(03:01):
Luca had his own personal medical team, and when he
was out with this left cap streen, he decided, you know.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
While the Mavericks were going on a five game.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Road trip, the longest road tier to the season, I'm
gonna stay at home and work with my team. I
want to work with my people. I don't want to
be on the road trip. I feel like this is
the best thing for me to get back.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
On the court as soon as possible.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Nico Harrison with Mavericks didn't want that. They wanted him
to be around the team and go with them on
this trip as he rehabed well. In the middle of
this trip he got traded, and so it was I
would say it wasn't one single event, but it's stuff
like that of like, now I'm gonna stayd Dallas works
my team and they're like, no, we want you around
the team. Like it's stuff like that just added up.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
He is Christian Clark cover and the Mavericks for the
athletic Let me stay there with Dallas. And I want
to ask about what's the temperament of the fan base.
Obviously they're upset. Do you think it's something that's long lasting.
Do you think it's just, oh, they had a bad
you know, spring, and they'll be all right by the
come the next season, or is this something that they're
(03:58):
gonna take. Is gonna take a while to build that
trust back with that fan base?
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Yeah, I mean if the fan base is absolutely livid still,
and I completely understand it, and I don't think it's
going to just go away.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I really don't. I mean, I think how could not.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
How could it not if they if Kyrie and I'm
just saying, if they play well and make a run
or whatever, you don't think fans it's about winning, isn't it.
And what wouldn't they embrace if A D and Kyrie
mesh together and they make a run or not, what
they're gonna play forty combined games. Well, I'm just saying
if they're healthy.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah, I mean, look, I think that's like if that's
been Nico Harrison's answer, when we win, you know, the
tune will change. I mean, look, I think Kyrie towards
a cl like he's gonna miss probably half the season
next year. I just think that's gonna that's gonna make
it difficult, you know, to to win at the level
that they need to win at. I mean, I still
think when Lucas here next season, like, well, let's just
(04:55):
say an NBA puts the Lakers in Dallas on Christmas Day, Like,
I think you're gonna hear Mavericks fans doing the same
stuff they did in air Rol, you know, next season.
I don't think that stuff's going away.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
And I thought it was a bit much with the
I don't know if Dy wrecked the statue for everybody
tribute video, for everybody handing out T shirts. I was
if I was Luca, I would have taken the T
shirt and wiped my nose with it. I just would
have been like, what what what was that? Did that
make any sense to you?
Speaker 6 (05:25):
Christian?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
I didn't. I didn't think the T shirts made sense.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
I did think thanks for.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Everything, thanks for everything we dumped you, and thank for everything.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
I didn't get the T shirts.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
I think they did have to do a tribute video.
I did think the tribute video was well done. I mean,
I think the most the scene I'll remember most from
that night of the Luca return game is Luca sitting
on the Lakers bench and like tears welling in his
eyes while he's watching his own tribute video. I mean,
you knew in that moment when he'd said it he
was about to close on a house in Dallas when
(05:58):
he was traded, it wasn't gonna least, you know.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
I mean, that was that was sure.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
He wasn't going to leave. He was in line for
three hundred and fifty million dollars. I mean, where were
you going? He couldn't get that from anywhere else. I mean,
like the idea, oh my god, I don't want to
leave Dallas. Well, three hundred fifty million dollars that he
can't get from anybody else, So of course he wants
to stay there.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Where you Okay, buy a sentiment because sentiment he loved
the city, It's all he knew. He got there as
a teenager. Let them man and be emotional, Rob, I
still don't buy it.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
All right? How about tonight and a d uh and
just the Mavericks. I mean, can they.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
You know, you question the play in with a lot
of teams under five hundred making it in, but could
they make some noise here?
Speaker 4 (06:47):
I mean, I think they can win these two playing games.
I wouldn't pick them too, but I mean they're definitely
not be okay see with.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Something yeah yeah, yeah no, but I mean, you know,
like win in these or they could get run out
of the building and these in this play in.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Yeah, I think they could beat Zach.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
I don't know about Memphis.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I mean I think you know the Sack Dallas games specifically,
it's kind of an interesting contrast and styles. You know,
the Mavericks made this trade to play super big with
a d at power forward and Derek Lively at center
and the Kings are small. You know, it's kind of
DeMar Derozen you know at power on the wings, at
power forward, and they got t Bonus in the middle.
But you know, the Kings are a smaller team. The
(07:24):
MAVs are a huge team. It's it's I think this
interesting battle of like contrasting styles.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yeah, I mean that again, if you're the Mavericks, this
is just a you know, we'll kind of wait till
next season. Kyrie gets healthy, Ad hopefully is fully healthy.
That's what they're banking on. Last thing for me is
even when we move forward next year, is a d
really the face of this team and you believe there's
still some things that we've made, Like is this really
(07:51):
the team that were rolling out? We got rid of
Luca for this? Is this really is obviously again Kyrie
healthy and Ady healthy, Is this really what they believe in?
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (08:01):
I think so. And I mean, honestly, I wouldn't have
done the trade.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
I don't think they got near enough if they were
going to trade Luca. But I do think they're a
good team when they're healthy.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
I mean I really do. I mean I think, like.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
I agree, Yeah, they go together, they go together. These
two guys, they're.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Both injured, Christian, that's the part I don't get but
trade Luca to get even more injured God to pair
with the often injured guy.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah, but you also think and look that he won
a championship. I'm just saying, I get it. They wanted
to dump them. They had to get something. Then that
was it.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
I'm going to get Sga and Edward something. Christian Man,
thank you, thanks guys.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
I appreciate having me on, No.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Doubt, Christian Clark. They're covering the Mavericks for the acts.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
A lot of those guys arguing.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
In my head, He's like, right, we got a three
way call. Is this right now? Got me on here
yelling at me all right? On the way shekel City
see how robbed it. Plus Times magazine dropped their one
hundred most influential people. There's some people in the sports
world on it. We'll throw some names out there on
there from the sports world. Here, I am thinking you're
(09:05):
gonna get to one hundred wins before losses, and I'm
thinking that's not the case.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
I got one hundred losses now.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Man, that was a rough night.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
Then well it might be time to retire it.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
It's not yet yet. It's the I coverle Fox Sports Radio.

a little bit more of his intro. Sorry, let me
get you ready to go ahead? Jimmie up there, I
got you, Jared, You're ready. Here we go. Fox Sports
Radio Countdown, presented by bet MGM on Saturday mornings. You
can listen to a nine am to noon East Standard Time.
Here is Jerry Smith. There we go.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
Let's go, point guard.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Do what I do?
Speaker 3 (10:05):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
I'm trying to lead u to the w You know
that's my jais only if they're crab legs though, that's.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
What did you see the TikTok he did with the
crab and the the other day you got it?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Listen. He's he's a blast.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
He is.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
The Only problem is, once you start doing TV more
is gonna be too contrived and forced, you know what
I mean, they're gonna like, oh we should do.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
This, kid, and it's gonna you can't overdo it.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
That's what's gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
Yeah, there's a there's a natural.
Speaker 7 (10:31):
Content these days.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
Everyone wants content.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Yes, So Jared, let's let's talk about the NBA playoffs
or underway and uh, these playing games last night.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
I don't know. I mean, you look at these games
and I.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Was right on the Warriors plus I had I had
Grizzlies plus six and a half in that game. And
you you were watching that one, Warriors up by twenty,
You're like, you got no shot.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
Where's money going to people take? Do they?
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Just?
Speaker 3 (11:01):
I think most people just bet the favorites in the
postseason because for the most part the post the favorites
are the teams that win.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
Is that how most people bet the postseason?
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Absolutely?
Speaker 7 (11:12):
Especially game ones? You know, like we're gonna see a
lot of these series. In fact, there's some fun parlays
you can do over at bet MGM where it's like
win game one and win the series and you get
a little bit of a you know, a little bit
more bang for your but unders in game one also
have been a thing recently, especially early on in the playoffs,
right because that's when all of a sudden, it's a
different sport. Like the regular season is very different from
(11:34):
the postseason in the NBA, and the totals haven't fully
caught up yet, right, Like Vegas is still kind of
baking in what the numbers were from the regular season,
and then all of a sudden things tighten up in
the postseason. Much more defense, a lot more you know,
extensions of defenses, and a lot more you know, complicated
defenses to solve. And that's when you know you see
(11:55):
less points. So I think that's a vibe. Favorites and
unders tend to be a vibe early on in the
NBA playoffs.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Jared, I want to go to the Eastern Conference, where
it seems like all season long, Cleveland just has this
remarkable season. I mean, you dag near thought Lebron was
playing with Cleveland the way they were performing. But come
to find out a lot of people still just buy
the Celtics, like, oh, just get to the postseason and
the Celtics will win. Is that how the money's coming
in right now? As far as from the East is,
it's still just Celtics to lose.
Speaker 7 (12:21):
Oh yeah, and you know, if they do play each
other in the Eastern Conference finals, which I think that
makes a lot of sense. Those are really the only
two teams that the sports books are given any love to.
Boston is minus one forty five to win the East
and that you know, that might surprise some of you
because it would be Cleveland that would get the home court.
The Cavs are plus one to eighty, and then there
is a massive gap between Boston and Cleveland, and then
(12:42):
you got the Knicks down there at twelve to one.
So really, what the what the books are telling you
is they'd be shocked if it was anyone but Boston
and Cleveland. I think Boston's gonna win it all again.
Like I know that sounds really boring and really chalky,
but it does seem like they are the best team,
and especially if they're operating at full capacity with Christapsporzingis,
I just don't see a team beating them in the
best of.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Seven, Yeah, because it's always the best of seven that neutralizes,
especially in basketball, you gotta beat somebody four times. Is
there a team that people just bet money on, like, like,
like I know, and and and Jared helped me out
if I'm wrong on this, But I've read something before
where New York gambling wise, like makes more money than
(13:23):
Los Veig, like makes money more money.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
Than most of the states that have gambling.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Like like like fifty of the gambled money is through
New York or something like that was a ridiculous number.
But anyway, my point is because you have New York
fans and there's a lot of action coming out of the.
Speaker 6 (13:42):
Big apples a huge city.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yeah, but do you see like more money bet on
a team like the Knicks or bet on certain teams
just because of their fan bases?
Speaker 6 (13:52):
That is that a question that I'm trying to make
sense of.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
Yeah, No, I think there is a lot of regional bias.
New York by far is the most and that's really population.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
It's just volume.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Am I right about that? Like like gambling the money,
it's just a lot of matt So the state has
what fifty eight sixty million people?
Speaker 7 (14:10):
Yeah, And then another thing you see, for example, bet
MGM has a big stronghold in the state of Michigan,
so you see a lot of times. Oh, the biggest
liability for bet MGM is the Detroit Pistons. You're like, wait, what, Well,
that's because everyone's betting Michigan. You know, everyone's in Michigan,
so you get a lot of hometown bias. The same
thing with the Michigan Wolverines. Anytime they're playing a big game,
you tend to see a lot of handle come in
(14:32):
at bet MGM on the Wolverines or Michigan State or
you know, the Red Wings or you know, the Pistons,
the Tigers, because it's it's just you know, that's the
most popular state that MGM has and that's why you
So there is a little bit of regional bias that exists,
but for the most part, it's just population. And that's
why New York, New Jersey, if Texas, California ever comes online,
(14:52):
I mean those states are going to blow past what
Nevada does. And another thing we've seen, because gambling is
becoming more legalized nationwide, well now that is not as
you know, it's not as much of a destination because
you don't you used to be you have to go
to Nevada right now, you don't.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Now I could take the money. I was gonna go
fly out there and have a hotel and bet that.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Yeah, exact one percent.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
I think that's changing, and that's why I think we've
seen Nevada loosen a lot of some of the regulations
and restrictions that they've had, Like, for example, some of
the exchange sites like the cow She's like, you know,
the things that were really big when the election was
coming up. A lot of those future contracts and a
lot of those peer to peer betting sites are becoming
a lot more popular now because you eliminate the tax
(15:35):
involved with Like if all of a sudden, a sports book,
like for example, in New York, you have to pay
a fifty percent tax for all sports betting revenue that
the sports books collect. If if you can bypass that
by creating some kind of contract, future exchange, peer to peer, well,
now all of a sudden, you can make a significantly
more money if you eliminate the tax revenue involved. So
the gambling industry is evolving significantly over the last few years,
(15:57):
and I think it's gonna keep evolving.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
And let me do one more. Gonna ask you about
the college draft.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
For the draft, uh, I think they improved a casino
for Times Square in New York?
Speaker 6 (16:07):
Is am I right?
Speaker 7 (16:08):
Jared and also the can you believe casinos?
Speaker 3 (16:11):
In New York Times Square we have a casino probably
the biggest casino in the United States.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
It's gonna be crazy.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Well, I think that.
Speaker 7 (16:19):
And also the Eye casino has become very popular, like
betting slot machines online, and you know blackjack on Like
you see Drake do that all the time.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
He's playing blackjack and rule.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Start to get concerned that he's reading like a million
dollars on red like relaxed Drake. That's becoming very popular.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Yeah, running a long time. A couple of things we
want to ask you NFL draft looking at some we
talk about, you do it. We talk about uh, obviously Hunter,
maybe Carter, but some other players out there that maybe
less talked about. But it could be really good for
a team. Tyler Warren, who is kind of the all
purpose do it all tied in there, one of those
people are keeping an eye on. Could be one of
a nice deal of the draft. What do you think
(16:55):
of him?
Speaker 7 (16:56):
Well, I think the brock Bauers effect from last year,
like Vegas had quarterback and brock Bowers had an all
Pro year. I think that's gonna help a guy like
you know Warren and also Loveland, the tight end from Michigan.
I think those guys might get taken earlier than expected.
You can say the same thing about the Saquon Barkley
effect for Ashon genty and I think now GMS, maybe
those aren't premium positions tight end running back in the
(17:17):
draft usually don't take a tight end or running back
in the top ten. But those two guys last year,
Saquon and Bowers, I think maybe have changed the minds
of some general managers. Maybe they're gonna be taken a
little bit earlier than expected. I would be betting the unders
on the draft positions for gent and Warren. I think
some general managers might bite a little bit early.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
All right, Well, there you have it, man, It's gonna
be interesting where what tomorrow will be a week away
from the draft. So all the posturing, all the you know,
putting out fake stories and doing all that will come
to it in and we'll finally see who gets drafted.

I do a show called LA Times Today Today though,
so I have to do the pre what I'm doing new, Hey,
be sure to check out LA Times Today Today tonight.
It's at airs at night, So I say LA Times
Today tonight night, right, which is pretty weird. That throws
me people off. We got the new show tonight LA
Times Today, but it's tonight all right.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
We want to get and of course last call if
you weren't able to get it earlier in the program,
you have an opportunity at the end of the show
as always. But here's the thing. Last night, Golden State won,
but we talked about it. They had a big twenty
point lead. They thought they were going to blow up.
I thought they were gonna come right, and a couple
of plays and a couple of situations and they they
(20:58):
might have and might not have worked out.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Aaron Judge home run. I was gonna interrupt you while
he was up. There was three three bottom of the
seventh here against the Royals, and Aaron Judge just went
ahead and the way, yeah, yep.
Speaker 6 (21:12):
There it is all rising in the Bronx.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I don't know if you knew this. He's pretty good
at baseball.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Pretty good when you when you compared your numbers to Baby.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
I just don't know. We talked about it like a
week or two ago. Just give it a show. Hating
him already, Just give it to those two.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Guys are going to be around for the next few years.
But yeah, he just put the Yankees ahead four to
three in the bottom of the seventh.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Pretty good at baseball.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
I was just saying, they look they're gonna blow the game.
They wind up winning the game. Some mistakes obviously at
the end.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Can't bound the ball. Maybe if John Moran doesn't twist
his ankle because he had to sit out about a
three minute stretch.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
And that hurt them.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Yeah, But anyway, the point is, you still weren't that
impressed by the victory. And when you look at because
I said this going into the player and who else.
Do we have one the other day who said the
same thing. What was the point about you don't want
to go into the playoffs like that, Eddie House and
that they lost to the Spurs without their two stars,
(22:13):
and then they couldn't beat the Clippers. Not that the
Clippers are a bad team, but that was a game
that was a big game. It was at home.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Draymond makes a layup, Right, you're at home.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
You're not in a playing like that was a big
game to me, and they lost both of them, and
then they didn't look that great to you, did they No?
Speaker 1 (22:30):
So here's the thing though they looked to me. What
made me gonna go ah is because I think that
might have been their best case scenario, and their best
case scenario wasn't that great. And what I mean by
that is, I don't know if I'm getting Steph Curry
putting up thirty seven fifteen in the fourth. Jimmy Butler
(22:50):
was in one of the more efficient thirty eight point
games you'll see.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
But he did have a lot of free throws I
was looking at for.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
But that's fine. Playoffs are about that. And then they
go seventy five points or so from those guys and
then to barely win, you know. And it wasn't like
John went crazy and had forty or fifty on you.
To me, I watched him and I was like, that's
what Jimmy's there for. Jimmy is deficient. Jim playoff Jimmy
or playing Jimmy in this case is gonna be a
steadying force. He was perfect because Steph had this period
(23:19):
the third period where he wasn't doing anything. Shout out
to U. Scotty Pippen Junior played some great defense on
him for a while there, and that's why you bring
in a Jimmy Butler. Right, Hey, I need some help.
I can't do this all by myself. If you're Steph
and if you're Steve Kerr, remember it was rough during
the season. He was like, Steph is tired. Okay, he's
trying to do everything by hisself. We don't have anything.
These young guys aren't stepping up. It's hard to.
Speaker 6 (23:41):
Look at at the war is now and think back
to how bad they were.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
At one point, and they were really bad. I mean
they were literally like is this the end for Steph?
Is he gonna go out like this is his career
gonna end? Is he never gonna make the postseason again.
Those are real conversations and the reason why I bring
this up to say, Jimmy came in and did exactly
what you hoped he do. But as I watched it,
I went, oh, and this is why I didn't fully bother.
I knew they already tough out. And listen, they're gonna
(24:07):
get the next round they play the Rocket, it's gonna
be a tough out because they just have championship pedigree. Uh,
you know some of the team members and obviously Jimmy
bean to a finals and he's just tough. He's he's
a real hard player. But I went, that's just not
enough because I had to get a perfect game from Jimmy.
You know, st gonna get that. I'm not gonna get
fifteen and the fourth every night. And I really looked
(24:27):
at like, who's the third option. Draymond is gonna be
Drayman's gonna be good on the defensive end. He'll make
a few nice backdoor cut passes, and he'll also blow
some blow some Land's gonna he's gonna, you know, shoot
some horrible threes at times. And and but I'm like,
then who is it? And what is up with kaminga?
Did he slap Steve Kurz kid or something? He went
(24:48):
from being a piece stills playing Where you go? Man,
he's so athletic, you keep man. He one day's gonna
click out. One day is gonna click for him, one
day is gonna click for Oh he was nice and
that he had twenty two and now he's DNP. He's
not even playing, he's not getting limited minutes.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
No, you're not even playing.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
He's not even in a sweat. So, to me, you
lose an X factor of a guy who's athletic, who
can all of a sudden have a random twenty twenty
five point night. And if you're losing that and I'm
relying on Moody and Pajinski, to me, I'm like, oh,
that's just not enough, because now I'm relying on Jimmy
to give me thirty thirty eight a night, Steph to
go thirty something plus a night in fifteen to fourth
every night just to barely win. So I watched them.
(25:26):
It was an entertaining game. The stars came to play.
Jock came to play as bestie Kid Baines was looking
really nice. Triple j was doing his thing. But I
went and said, Okay, this is why they're not the
Warriors of past, because I can't rely on Jimmy to
do that every single night and Steph to do that
every single night and think that's a viable way of
(25:46):
winning some series. So to me, it was it was
what you'd hope for in a sense of competitive game.
Jimmy starred, he balled. That's not enough. That ain't enough
to make me go. They can beat the Lakers, they
can beat a k C. You know, I don't even
think they beat the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Because because really, when you think about even in that,
when you think about the Warriors, right, the only reason
why you even would think they'd have a chance against
okay see is because of experience, not because there are
better that That's the only reason why you would question
okay see beating them. That's the reason why like but
(26:25):
but not basketball are not the players involved, right.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
They have too many people, they're too deep, they have
guys that the.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
Defense play defense.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
And so when you look at that, and I'm with you,
you know, I'm not high on the Warriors anyway, even
with them getting Jimmy.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Butler, Oh, you don't want to see them. You know,
here we go, they're gonna make that run. No, Draymond
is not the same.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
He could be, just like he frustrates me at times,
specifically offensively.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
He's not the same.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
And then you you're asking for a lot from Stephan Jimmy,
theyanna get you what eighty or ninety points a night
to win like comfortably? Like that's just you're right? Can
you count on that every night? No, you cannot count
on that. Who's even in the playoffs? Who's their Austin Reeves?
You know who is there?
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Drew Holliday, Well, the Celtics got five guys who you know,
Pritchard eighty Knight can be that third guy? Al Horford.
I mean, they're they're loaded over there. They got ga
but we're doing all this. They don't even talk about
Pazenkis yet, you know what I mean, because he's been
a remember, yeah, like they have too much over there.
But like, who's that guy for them? You know what
I mean? Who is their Baines? If it's Triple J
and John, Like, who is their third guy? And that's
(27:38):
my concern is that dude, Steph got to put up
thirty five a night. He can't have a twenty two
point night. You know, Jimmy Butler's gonna have to do that.
I'm like it, And where's that gonna come from? And
I just don't think Moody Pazenski and some of the
other loony looney don't even he's not even really a
factor anymore. You're not playing Kminga.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
A couple of years ago, he was.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
He was for sure, absolutely was annoyingly good.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
He was a team big time.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
I might only get eight points, but they're gonna be
the most annoying eight points if you're the other team,
is gonna be the most opportune time for the Warriors.
So I just saw it. I was like, wow, this
this is what you brought Jimmy in for. Jimmy showed
up playoff slash playing. Jimmy was there. But I still went,
like I thought all along, it's just not gonna be enough.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
And remember even their run with Jimmy. When you pull
back the curtain a little bit, you look at them
teams that they played a lot of SOB five hundreds,
and those were the teams that they feasted on. And
I'm not mad at you. You gotta beat those teams are
in front of you. But it does say maybe they're
not as good as we thought. Oh when they got Jimmy,
they were rolling. They win all these games. They were
(28:42):
fifteen and three. Oh yeah they were. But they didn't
bleed up a lot of good teams. And that's the problem.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
So I'm with you. Yeah, you brought a good point.
Though they're gonna you. You're going to have to beat
them because the only thing Steph knows if Draymond Nose
and some of those guys who have been there for
a few years and Steve Kirk, they're going to play hard, right,
They're gonna lay it all on the line if they're
gonna die on their shield and their sword, you know
what I mean. Meaning they're not gonna just give it
to you. So you gotta beat them. But talent wise,
(29:11):
I look at him, I go, ah, it's just not enough.
I think they're beatable. I really do.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
I think the only respect that they're they're getting is
based off of their history, pedigree, history and what they've done,
you know, And that's why people can't let it go.
It was almost and I brought this up to you,
and you know I said it before, but it was
it was the reason if you really look honestly at
the Chiefs and the Eagles, honestly because the Eagles was
(29:43):
so much better than the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Exactly?
Speaker 3 (29:49):
And people were saying what everybody saying we interviewed them.
I can't go against the Chiefs. I can't go against Patrick.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
You know what. That's a complement though. To me, that's
you earned that. That's like thees is like, man, I
ain't been ageing. They come on.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
But that's what this is with the Warriors, Like people
are still giving them their respect, and I understand because
of their resume, but it's not based on the team
they have it.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
Really, it really isn't all right eight.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Seven seven ninety nine Off Fox eight seven seven nine
nine six sixty three sixty nine. Are you with Kelvin
and I we're not buying the Warriors or are we
missing something?
Speaker 6 (30:26):
Do they have a run in them? Well? Steph and
Draymond and Jimmy Buckets.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Finally get his uh his ring? Are they got a
real running them or not? I don't see it. Kelvin
doesn't see it. Maybe you see something else we want
to hear from you. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.
It is the odd couple on a worship Wednesday, Rob Parker,
Kelvin Washington, right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Stick and stay if possibly you need some new tires
in the US of a
