Speaker 2 (00:19):
You're listening to the best of the Odd Couple.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
You know.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
I've been covering sports for almost forty years. I thought
the coverage by NFL analyst former play was atrocious. I
thought it was atrocious. Tell me and I'll tell you
why drafting is not an exact science.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
They made it as if two and two is like
the draft was two and two is five, and then
went like, oh, it's not, it's four, Like how could
you miss that?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Right? Like, how did you miss that? That was the reaction.
And my point is.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
They don't get it right all the time. We talked
about it all the time. This wasn't some memo passed
by Roger Goodell. Put your door Sanders in his place.
Don't draft them right. People want to make it a
race thing. Oh my god, if you're a black, cocky guy.
Kim Ward's cocky and me, yeah, okay, did Kim Ward
(01:28):
get drafted first? Come on, man, don't do that. Don't
throw it out there if it ain't real. And we
can talk about all the guys. And you notice, because
we've been over this list of guys were who were
drafted not in.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
The first round?
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Yeah, where Jalen Hurts second round, Drew Brees who's going
to the Hall of Fame, second round, Russell Wilson has
a chance at a third round, Dad Prescott fourth round,
Kirk Cousin's fourth round, Tom Brady's sixth round, brock Purty
(02:09):
seventh round.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Stop this whole idea as if it was a birthright
for him. And here's the other thing, Kelvin that really
bothered me. Do you really believe that general managers and
coaches who are trying to hold on to their gig
deliberately passed over him? Why can't Why can't they honestly
(02:31):
think that he's just not on that caliber that they
don't want to spend a.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
First round draft pick.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
They could wind up wrong, and they've been wrong on people.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
And that's my argument.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
And the last thing is this Kyle Brand, is that
his name from NFL Network does he not know he
went off on the whole anonymous quote thing. Some of
the greatest journalism done in this country or of you
not anonymous quote.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
In all facts, Like anything in life any.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Where, you get somebody to honestly tell you what's going
on with without the fear of retribution, but by putting
their name on it. It is a part of journalism,
especially if you know who you're getting the information from,
and your editors or your outlet or your bosses know.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
It ain't like I talked to a bum at the
bottle at the end of the corner and he gave
me some quote about the president.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
I'm gonna run with it. Do you understand what I'm saying?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Well, the pick is in right now or Cleveland. I
want to see what they're gonna do because this may,
we might, we might all of a sudden. Can never
continue conversation.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Yeah, but my point still is there was no reason
for people to react like that because he didn't get drafted.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
So you you bring up a lot of points that
I definitely can understand. I definitely agree. The only side
of this that I'll add to is I think that's
part of why it's almost like any voting here in
the last cup few presidential elections, Why you get one
side that's completely well, this makes sense. Why would I
not vote for Joe Biden because blah blah blah. And
if you look at the track recoricle, blah blah blah.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Are you serious? We need something new?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
I'm going for Donald Trump because blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
And the reason I say that is two months ago.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
This is why some people are flabbergasted Rob is because
he was a top five pick.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Most people say who that was. Dion said that a
lot of.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
People were saying that he's gonna be one of the
first quarterbacks to go, he'll be the It was just
a conversation that he'll be a high pick, top one,
I mean top five, top seven pick. And for a
while there that was kind of just what was out there.
And then you started to see again the productivity on
the field. Now this is before people start to say,
well they aren't isn't big enough? Well, the Actressy's there,
(04:48):
but it's only because he's throwing the Travis Hunter. And
so I think that's why you get some people say no,
he's just not necessarily what we need. He's not a
top he's not a first round draft pick. And that's okay,
But I think some people are again confused and flabbering
ass to be like, well where did this all of
a sudden a handful of weeks?
Speaker 3 (05:05):
But there's not an exact sign.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
I'm breaking down And here here's here, I'm sorry where
they pick They got linebacker Carson Schweisen girl from U C.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
L A.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
That is who the Browns have picked with their first
pick here in the second round, calling them a tackling machine.
And you know, so you got kind of a linebacker
who can make some plays there, so they're clearly going defense.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
And here's the other thing too.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
There were there were like three teams that needed a
quarterback and they all passed on them. And that that's
what I'm like, Like the Steelers at twenty one, Uh,
the Browns had a shot origin the Giants before the
Giant and they all passed on and the Giants even
drafting up and around, and the Saint there was another.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Yeah, the Saints is the one that was kind of interesting, amazing,
and none of them wanted them.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
And now again circling back Cleveland didn't want them again,
you give me a second time around, So that is
saying something.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
But so here's my couple of points real quick.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
I think I mentioned That's why I think it was
confusing for some people is again because we had him
as this highly ranked and highly you know, high prospect
going into the NFL draft for most of the season,
and all of a sudden that was you know, that
started to change when we seen him a couple of
times go up against high caliber quarterbacks. He matched that
we talk about when he went up against Caleb Williams
Heisman winner and obviously ended up having a good season
(06:26):
before he was drafted number one overall, he dueled him
back and forth. It went back and forth, it went
so I think that was a part of also why
it was a bit confusing. But here's the thing with
Shador Sanders. Him being drafted in the first round was
not a guarantee. Him being drafted in the first round
was not the worst thing that's gonna happen to him.
(06:46):
If he's drafted in this round or the third round,
it's all right. You add the fuel to the fire
if you believe in yourself, like I know that he
does you take this and you make it work. We
mentioned all these quarterbacks who didn't get drafted when they
thought they would have and thought they should have. So
you use this as motivation you continue to work hard.
And by the way, this ain't when you get the
real money. The real money is your next contract. If
(07:08):
you ball out, whether you're sixth round, first round, brock
Perty's about to get some real money.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
He wasn't making no money.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
You get what I mean. So I understand you wanted
to be first round. But if you end up being
picked here in the second round se la VI, such
as life, you move on and you make doubters of people.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
You had a little bit of fuel to it.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
But again it's the idea that because there was speculating,
there were plenty of people didn't think he was a
first round pick either. I agree Dion said it early
and then other people whatever, But there are plenty of
people who I heard not And this is what I
said to you yesterday and the day before that. There
was too much theme about him not being you know
(07:46):
what I mean. Remember, I was like, there's just way
too much conversation. This isn't one person. And even the
anonymous quote the one thing that people look at all, well,
this is about because he's in a confident black man.
I read the entire quote. At the end of it,
he did say the worst interview or whatever. I get
all that he said, and then the bottom line is
(08:09):
he's not that good. That that ultimately so because somebody
doesn't have the same intel or opinion of an evaluation,
not of look at shoe Hail Tani's numbers and say
he's not the MVP.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Do you see it?
Speaker 4 (08:26):
This is an evaluation of a guy who hasn't played.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
With That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
And I still think one of the more understated things
we've said it, we've mentioned it. Not a lot of
teams needed a quarterback. Now some teams are riding with
quarterbacks that aren't that great. You know what I mean,
I can I can point out eight teams right now
that you know, just on paper, you could be like
Trevor Lawrence not okay, y'all, what's the idea that that?
Speaker 3 (08:49):
But didn't want them, says Volumes. It does Pittsburgh absolutely
unless they still the Saints. The Saints.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
That to me was the more somebody kept talking about
twenty one with with Pittsburgh. I kept saying the Saints
and that Derek car how shocked, will you be honest
like or no? I was not that shock based off
what we've been saying, and you've been You've been making
a great point of it. It just was there was
no intail. There wasn't an inkling. There wasn't a uh
(09:16):
kind of whisper about it on paper. If I just
me and you sitting in a bar and I said, hey,
the Saints they need a quarterback, they need to start something,
get something building. But what we heard in reporting wise,
you didn't hear peep. So that was why I was like, well,
it can't be the Saints. But if I look at
the Saints, if I look at Carolina and say, well,
you already was ready to get rid of Bryce Young
(09:37):
Now he had a you know, solid few games at
the end, are they like, no, there's our future. So
you can make a case for a handful of teams,
which ultimately comes down to they just don't believe he's
good enough, and maybe they did not like his interviewing.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
By the way, that two things can be true.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Folks can believe now he ain't that good, especially for
me not thinking he has the right temperament.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Now I might not agree, you might he might agree.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
But if they feel that two things can't be true,
because you know, it goes you can say, ah, he's
kind of a little confident, a little too much that
I like, But dang, he is a Aaron Luck talent.
I think I would make that exception for that. But
if you're already kind of ill talent, I don't not
really buyd If he's first round talent, by the way,
(10:21):
he can be mid second round, and that's not bad, no,
but it's not the worst thing the ch ago. But
it's not the end of the world. If in the
next seven eight picks here he goes and he's in
the top thirty five to forty five picks of seven.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Round on Cleveland didn't pick him, it's a little like.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, but then they got another pick here coming up too.
But that that would to me be like, all right,
so it wasn't the worst thing in the world to
happen to you. You know, Cleveland's coming right back around
here again. Uh, what at the thirty six pick.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Because because.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
I caught some other reports saying that being drafted the
second round was to guarantee for him either.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Well clearly, I mean again, because it's not as all
of a sudden they have quarterback needs. Like these teams
that feel like they don't need a quarterback, feel like
they don't need a quarterback, doesn't might because they would
have grabbed one exactly, felt like that. Why And it
wasn't a quarterback draft anyway. There wasn't like seven quarterbacks
who are gonna go in the first forty five picks
or anything.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
The Jaguars, you know, I give them credit, Okay, well
there were nowhere going organization, right, They got their quarterback, Yeah,
and they saw him to a big deal and they
had that little playoffs, you know, coming back against the Chargers.
You remember that that was a huge and it looked
like that was going to be a turning point in
that franchise.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
And then don't forget they were an AFC championship game.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
They were against the Patriots with Blake Bortles and they
had an unbelievable defense.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
You remember that Blake Bortles for the rest of his
life is gonna hang on to that. No, it was,
and they let it the half and then they lost
in the second hand.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
I won't let the Tim Tebow eight yard pass that
was ran the rest of the seven year exactly by
the receiver. Boy, I tell you he beat the brother.
I'm sorry, he beat the Steelers. Who we got here?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Yeah? No, I thought Jerry.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
I thought Jerry would want the popping circumstance of the
Sanders family.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
No, don't do that.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Instead they drafted Donovan and it was a cool an
edge rusher, an edge rusher. So uh, But I guess
the biggest question is two things. When you're a really
good player, you're gonna go to.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
A bad team. That's usually how it goes. You're a
part of it. A lot of people didn't want Joe
Burrow to go to Cincinnati. What did he do second
year after being hurt part of his first year? They
go the Super Bowl. He's a part of the solution.
So now can Travis Hunter be a part of the
solution there in Jacksonville take some of the pressure off
(12:53):
of Lawrence?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Right? Yeah? What do you make of this?
Speaker 4 (12:56):
And the move I like it for them because I
think it's easy to just kind of do the status quo.
They went out and so here's a generational talent. Two way,
and why not. I like what here's what I think
they did. Two things just happened.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
One.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
As much as we talk about you know, man, this
player is gonna do this player is gonna do that,
we you know, let's keep it real. Sports is also
about filling up your arenas, your stadiums, right your ballparks.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
It's a business.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
It's a business, and sometimes I think a lot of
fans don't want to know dirty seekers that.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
And you know this, every organization they trying to win, win, win, win.
They're trying to win.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
But it ain't about to go at all costs and
expenses and buy new buildings and new arenas. And we
are just fine letting this money take ten to fifteen
percent every year, you know, increase. So some organizations you
know that, hey we can we we're trying to win,
but we're also trying to make money. And I say
that to say, you.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Remember when the Bulls did that, when they blew up
the Michael Jordan bully.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
And bay that's the craziest thing every thing think about
they did. They were like, no, we're good. Yep, we
won six years. We're good.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
And then he says, if you bring Phil back, I'll
come back.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
We're done.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
If we had a run, so thank you, you would
think we got Michael Jordan come when to come back?
Speaker 3 (14:09):
We ain't never.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
I don't care if Phil Jackson's eighty eight, but they
let him go. I said that to say so. I
think the the Jags are saying, look, we have a
superstar that will also transcend just on the field, but
also get butts in seats, get people wanting to have,
you know, be in our arenas and want to do
deals with us, and you know, just sponsors and just
it'll be cool just to have Travis Hunter and all
(14:32):
the Heisman Trophy winner and also seemingly a spectacular athlete
and talent. Also, I think what they're doing is getting
Trevor Lawrence, who they're highly invested in, some more help
on the offensive end, because all the things we keep
hearing is and you and I just did w who
do we just have on who'sman's out?
Speaker 3 (14:49):
It a heck of a receiver.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
TJ who's his own self, had a really nice career.
He said, Man, that guy's just different. He's just built different.
He's just one of those ones. I remember he said
that everybody would keep having says that edge rusher, another
edge rusher from Ohio State goes forty fifth pick to
the Colts. There I said that to say, you pair
him with a rookie and Brian Thompson Junior who had
(15:11):
a heck of a rookie year for the Jags eighty
seven receptions, almost thirteen hundred yards, ten touchdowns. Now I
got Travis Hunter on the other end, No, and you
got Etn. You start to have some things with Trevor Lawrence, like,
all right, bro, we've invested in you, We've given you
the tools, and he got the money quarterbacks, so you
(15:34):
gotta give him those other tools.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Otherwise, what is the point And to move up and
say we're going to get one of the best receivers
in the game.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
He can also do a help us out defensively.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
To one of a kind kind of player, sometimes you
need to make moves for that.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
I'm not mad.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Why are you going to be the middle of the
road Jaguars that nobody cares about.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
And the division is open to That's the key thing.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
So if we get Trevor Lawrence and we can get
him another receiver on that side, because Brian Thomas Junior
looks like he's going to be a really nice receiver
in his lead for a while. We got Travis Hunter,
we've got etm we got some other pieces, and you
know what else, we'll see what else they do this draft. Right,
there's still more moves to be made. Now you can
say we're suing up this offensive side of the ball
because Trevor Lawrence was underwhelming last year and I never
(16:22):
to see he was injured and stuff, but he was bad.
He was underwhelming. He has been. So now you can say, man,
we've exhausted a lot of options for you, and we
have to start looking at ourselves and figuring out are
you the guy moving forward because we just now got
you another star receiver. And now to mention, oh, by
the way, thirty thirty five plays a game on the
other side of the ball, we might have one of
(16:42):
the better corners over the next couple of years as well,
or a punk kick return like who knows what they'll
use him as. I get why they do it, because
they're trying to help an investment from from four years
ago in Trevor Lawrence equally by investing in Travis Hunter.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Yeah, and I'm not taking a swing for defenses, right
with getting somebody who is that talented. I don't have
an issue with that. I really don't. This wasn't like
a stretch. I know they gave up a lot of
picks and all that they did, But but picks, that's fine.
Here's a guy who could be a game changer, right.
(17:17):
He helped Colorado turn it around, didn't he do?
Speaker 2 (17:20):
What?
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Ever, he's a big part of that.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
He was the best high school football player coming out
both ways. He was the best player in college football
literally at Jackson State, and that's a small as we
see you then go to Colorado Heisman like everywhere he goes,
he's just a man child, like, oh he's the best
player anybody we've talked to. Oh no, no, no, I know
there's this person. I know, No, no, he's gonna be the best.
They said he could be in the best defensive back
(17:42):
if he was only play dB or obviously the best receiver.
So you gotta go get that type of guy to
help shore up Trevor Lawrence. And you still have multiple
picks left throughout the draft to get the other things
you may need. And listen, you just mentioned the draft picks.
They gave up one of the things. We know, draft
picks will come and go.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Right. The ram have have.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Been in a multitude of Super Bowls and you know,
obviously they won one. And they said, remember famously, blake
ain't blake them picks, right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Because picks, I mean, they they do.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Sometimes you can you know, trade them back and find out, okay,
we gave up on that. But if you can ultimately win,
which is what you're trying to do, picks, just on
that important I remember when you can get him back too,
And Danny Ainge remember me start exactly And they never
won with with with all that. Now, they won later,
but they didn't win when they had all started.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yeah, they started to make some moves and and and realize,
you know, picks are great, but also so is Travis
Hunter projected to be right, and so is the way
you feel about Travor Trevor Lawrence based off what you're
paying them. And now again you have and again you
have more draft picks to be made, more mos to
be made too.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
You never know, you might be able.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
To trade a couple of uh uh, pick up some
moves and pick up some veteran players as well. But
Travis Hunter seeds by all accounts, to be special. You
put special with Trevor Lawrence so you can finally say, hey,
brou there's no more excuses. You got your You got right,
you gobody saying we have to be fifteen and two,
but we need to see you take three steps forward,
(19:06):
not a step three step forwards.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
You've got a guy in Brian Thomas Junior.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
You got now, Travis Hunter, you got etn you got
some other pieces on the offensive end. We'll try to
get some more offensive line help. And you know, but
all right now, I'm gonna need you to be the
Trevor Lawrence we thought when we were giving you forty
five to fifty million dollars a year.

by the Raiders who are on the clock. Right, We
have picked fifty eight. Yes, it doesn't look like it's
(21:02):
gonna happen in the second round. Back you see they
got a receiver, all right. The pick is in Baltimore. Ravens,
you know they be loving brother quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
They've already got too many on them.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
The may be loving brother quarterbacks. Let's see if they
steve over there, Steve. I'm just saying, you know what,
let's keep it rolling, keep the train rolling. But where
are you on this?
Speaker 4 (21:21):
That's I know, I know you're surprised because you thought
he was going in the first round.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I just round is almost gone. I'm gonna tell you why.
Let me tell you why. I'm shocked by this. And
I mean it's sincerely.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Every year the draft, and maybe it's not fully the
first round, but you get guys start merging out of
the blue, Zach Wilson, Like, okay, I was Will Levice.
He goes all of a sudden early second round. Like
you start to get these names of guys where you
feel like it's a stretch Kenny Pickens and oh okay,
(21:53):
I guess where these names come from, right, I mean,
I know thirty two teams everybody needs a quarterback, and
you start to get names that come out the blue
where people start reaching. And every year, like we both
have admitted teams overdraft somebody where you go, this guy's
not good or team say this guy he's a a
sure fire, can't miss, and he ends up being a miss.
So this is not a perfect science. But for what
(22:14):
we've heard the last year and a half, man Shador Sanders,
you never really know then into this year, Oh, Shador
Sanders con be a top five, top ten pick, surely
a top fifteen pick, and we heard that from most
of the season. You look at his productivity, right, he
is the Big twelve offensive player of the year.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
He's putting up big time numbers.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
With an offensive line everybody has agreed was terrible because
that they weren't able to build up their offensive line.
He duels with Kayleb Williams. He is obviously we hear
Tom Brady rabil By. Man, he's a leader. He's one
of the hardest workers I've been around. This guy's got
the goods and then all of a sudden, the last
three weeks or ish, he's like, oh no, he might
be arrogant, Oh no, he might be this, he might
(22:53):
be entitled. Man, his arm strength is like all of
a sudden, accuracy is well ask his guys are wide
open and it's like starting to hurt him. Well, that's
because he played with Travis Hunter, as if people who
go to Alabama go to Ohio State aren't playing with
a bunch of talented guys, way more talent than he asked.
So that's what made it shocking that he wouldn't go
in the first round. I'm not saying he's the greatest
prospect since filling the blank, but that's what made it
(23:17):
so shocking to me is that he now looks like shooting,
might not even go in the second round. And again,
the last point too, is at just seeing everywhere he's
gone from he was good in high school, goes to
Jackson State. Okay, that's easy because it's a swack. It's
HBCUs not okay. He goes to Colorado. They won one
game in four and they win six and he went nine,
and I'm just like, I'm again, I'm not saying this
(23:38):
dude is Patrick Mahomes, but it is shocking to me
that he doesn't go in the first round, doesn't go
the second round, and people are getting guys like Taylor Shuck.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
And I was shucking.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
I'm not surprised about the first round, second round. I'm
surprised that somebody just didn't use a.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Pick like why not. He's there, he's available. Hey, we
could use it back.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
I get it, but this it says something and many
argument against people were thinking that there's some diabolical NFL plan.
Deon Sanders is an all time great. There's no reason
to do anything that Dion and should Doure. I just
don't buy into that.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
I don't really say the personal or some sinister conspiracy.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
I just really really believe that they don't think he's
a quarterback of that talent for that draft that early.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Yeah, like not that he can't be drafted, but not there.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
And we've talked about this over and over about all
these other UH quarterbacks who didn't go in the first round.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Right, Russell Wilson was really good, Drew Brees is going
to the Hall of Fame, second round, Deshaun Watson pre
craziness early second round, he was in national title games.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
This is what I'm saying. It definitely happens.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
I think another great example, I think the what's seemingly
from the style in which they play as far as
accurate mobile, but not the most mobile. Another example that
would be Dak Prescott. Prescott won the fourth well you
know what I mean, who had a really good season.
Was it was like obvious in our face, Oh he's
really good. But people are like, ah, no, you know
he's he's in Mississippi state, so you know, I don't know,
(25:16):
And I think that to me, is there the example
of accurate play very well, put up numbers, mobile, not
the most mobile arm, but not the biggest arm. I think,
you know, I could see him end up being Dak
prescott ish. Maybe ain't gonna get to the sixty million bag.
Who knows, you know, God bless me if he does.
(25:37):
But where it's like, oh, shoot, we stole him in
the fourth Oh shoot, this guy can actually play all right.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
So here's the other part. Let's do this what you got?
So there were teams that passed up on them. So
I'm gonna ask you Giants, stealers, Saints, let's use those three, right, Okay, Cleveland?
Should we Cleveland?
Speaker 3 (25:56):
They had a couple.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
They're just so screwed up rob the dish, you know
what I mean, Like they don't untill he's kind of gone.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Who knows.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
They're just like, dude, we're gonna just be great on
the defensive side of the ball and hope that that
wins us games.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
All right, So so the question is who will regret
not taking Sanders? Is it one of these three teams?
So who do we say, the Giants, Steelers or the Saints? Yeah,
so you had them, I think to the Saints. Didn't
you think I had? I was just saying, yeah, that's
a Well, what else are you guys doing?
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Why not build up something, have some fanfare, a big
name we know that could do something maybe with the fans.
Give the fans some hope. I know they the Saints,
but dag they need a little angelic hope, you know,
as a fan base. So that was that and then
obviously everybody had the twenty first saying keep an eye
on that. What will Pittsburgh do?
Speaker 3 (26:44):
You know it's for me? The answer, the answer for
me is going to be.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
And it's not so much to do but the collective
movement and decisions that have been made for the Steelers.
Meaning I just have no idea what the Steelers doing,
Like I literally don't.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Know what do you mean you don't know what they're doing?
I mean, all they're doing is waiting.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
To see what And I get that, But what if
he says I'm retiring, you get what I'm saying, like Roight,
play this out honestly, man, I wait, my family, I
played a long time. My body is just my body's tired.
I just want you act like the season starts next week. No,
but season starts in September.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Right. But so now that goes back to your question
about Shadure.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
I'm saying they don't draft Shador, which I'm not saying
they had you where he's again the return of John Elway.
But you also don't Mason Rudolph is your quarterback. So
I'm just kind of stuck on like you're waiting on
Aaron Rodgers, who has told you I don't know what
I'm doing yet, which is his prerogative.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
I'm not even mad at that.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
I just think that there could be you look at
other teams rosters, you would have to make a move.
I don't believe that if Aaron Rodgers says that he's retiring,
that they still would have to go out and get
a quarterback. As what I'm saying, I just don't think.
I'm saying the Steelers didn't have didn't think that holly
of him hit which Shador Chador, because that would have
(27:59):
been a great safety net That's what I'm trying to
say to you, right, is like, but.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
That just makes me go I didn't further, Just like, man,
I don't know what they're doing, and that Mason Rudolph
is currently their starting quarterback. By the way, I don't
know Mike Green. He's from Marshall, he's an edge rusher.
But to see the joy in this young man's face,
you know, Like I said, I know we've been talking
about Shador and obviously Travis Hunter and even cam Ward
to an extent, but I just want to send some
(28:25):
love to these young players who are getting me in
the dream of their life. For you, as a sports writer, dude,
you got to write in the city eventually, in the
city in which you're from, New York City.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
That, dude, that's awesome, you know.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
For me Man, to finally get on air and be
in radio, have my own show to be on finally
be anchoring a morning news show in the second biggest
market in LA Sometimes I'm like, man, these guys are
living a dream. So I did want to shout out
these players who are getting rafted, even though you know,
we don't know a lot of their names. Dude, that's
an amazing feeling the tears that this young man, Mike
Green just shed family there embracing this moment is awesome.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
So I also want to make sure we you know,
acknowledged that.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
But I guess I think when I think about this,
I'm gonna think about the Giants because they've had so
many stinkers, because they had Dave Brown. I don't know
if you remember being a little young Dave.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
And and then you know Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Kurt Warner didn't work for them, but he had that. Yeah,
he had, he had he did. He had a bounce back.
But of course the Cardinals, but it was just closely
to winning the Super Bowl. Antonio Holmes makes that great catcher.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
That was a great super Bowl. That was a nice
little stretch that was That was I don't know, like
the Giants.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Like I said, I didn't believe the Giants were taken,
but it would have been so different for the Giants,
something different, a guy of that ilk with a little.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Flair and.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
You know what I'm saying, Like it would have made
the Giants like not so much old guard and old
and old Fogy's Giants or obvious picks, you know, like, yeah,
I totally get what you mean, But I go, I
do go back to the Saints. You know, a southern boy,
you know, obviously Texas, but southern boy, some swagger to
(30:19):
him in New Orleans, Derek carr Ain't it just it's
just he's just not it. He's obviously injured as well,
so that could have made some sense there as well,
because what exactly are the Saints doing, you know, moving
forward
