It's The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker! Chris and Rob debate whether or not it's okay for athletes to be insubordinate so long as they're honest about it like Jimmy Butler and not sneaky like James Harrison is asking Le'Veon Bell to be, if Tiger Woods needs to show a little more humility after placing himself on the Mt Rushmore of golf, and much more! Plus, Wizards center Dwight Howard stops by to discuss the ups-and-downs of his career and explain why he believes Shaquille O'Neal has a problem with him, and USA Today NFL columnist Jarrett Bell checks in to discuss the controversy surrounding the NFL's roughing the passer rule. new center. A lot to talk to the White about
and I can't wait to get him on the line.
So rib it sounds like we got a great show planned.
How are you doing today? I'm doing great, mister Chris Broussard, absolutely,

(01:30):
what a great show. Ready to roll. Let's welcome in
of course the Odd Couple crew, Rob g our producer,
Alex Our engineer, and of course Deb Carson, our news anchor,
who will keep us updated for the entire show. Let
you know what's going on. So we're ready to go, Chris,
and I'm interested to hear from Dwight Howard and of

(01:53):
course you know, Jared Bell's one of the best NFL
guys cover in the NFL and has been for a
long time, you know, without question, without question, he'll he'll
give us plenty of wisdom on that. So that's gonna
be a great interview. And speaking of the NFL, let's
get right to it. We don't have to go far
from Fox Sports. We can just go over to Fox

(02:14):
Sports one where James Harrison obviously the former a great
defensive player for the Pittsburgh Steelers and also New England Patriots.
Last year he was on Undisputed with Skip Bayless and
Shannon Sharp and he had a unique take rob on
the Levion Bell situation. Levion obviously is holding out right

(02:37):
now or hasn't showed up. Looks like he won't show
up until week ten when he has to to get
credit and get money for this season. But James Harrison's
take was different, strange, and something we had not heard before.
So let's let's hear what he had to say about
Levion Bell. I think to play for Levion. If I'm Levion,

(03:00):
I'm coming back with us in November and I'm gonna
go on there. I'm gonna get my credit the season
that I need to get and I'm gonna do the
best I can to get out of that season healthy,
and for me, I'll give you everything. In practice, you
would see the cameras would see that I am fine,
I am healthy, but come Saturday, something right, I can't
play on Sunday. In other words, fake it, fake an

(03:25):
injury so you don't have to play in an NFL game.
And you didn't like that one bit, right, I didn't.
I'm never into faking it. I think there's something wrong
with it. And this is the other part. If other
teams find out that you're faking an injury, do you
want that guy? Would you be willing to pay a
guy the kind of money that he's looking for to

(03:49):
a guy who's gonna fake the funk, who's not gonna
give his all, who's going to win things aren't going
his way, gonna jake it, but still cash the check.
I'm not interested in that guy. I don't care. And
there's something so dishonest. I just don't want to play
her that badly. I just don't. So James Harrison surprised

(04:09):
me with that. I get it. There's a stalemate going,
you know what I mean. He's trying to figure out
a way that gets to come back but stay healthy.
And I hear all of that, but I just could not.
It's against everything I'm I'm for Chris to fake, especially
like an injury or act like you can't play. I'm

(04:33):
against it. Yeah, I'm with you. I would never do that.
I get where Harrison was coming for a look, Leviana
Belle feels like the Steelers are playing dirty. You know,
they won't pay him what he feels is his market value.
He's looking for at least Todd Gurley type money in
terms of guarantees, and you know he's not getting that

(04:53):
type of offer for the Steelers, so obviously he is
upset with the franchise, and I think what Harrison saying
is play dirty with them. They're playing dirty with you.
You played dirty with them. But I don't like you
know this would and you made a great point that
this would could ruin his reputation and image with opposing team,

(05:16):
And I'm with you that if it would show that
he is a man of very low character, absolutely and
want him right right, and but beyond that it would
ruin I mean, I'm sure his relationship with a lot
of his teammates may already be strained. We saw the
lineman for the team come out the offensive lineman and

(05:36):
criticize him a couple of weeks ago, but this would
strain it even more. What if they're in a playoff race,
which is very likely, and he's sitting there not playing.
So I just think that you know, it's not a
bad it's not a good move at all. It's a
bad look all the way around. And furthermore, I'm not again,

(05:58):
I wouldn't do it. But if you were going to
do it, why in the world would you practice well
during the week, right, you show up and then your
first or second or maybe third day, you pull a
hammy you know, are you fake pulling a hammy or
something like that. Your back is bothering you. One of

(06:19):
those types of injuries that it's hard to measure where
you're at, and you do that, but I don't get
the practice and well, you know, throughout the week and
then you can't play in the game. So it was
a strange comment by James Harris, no doubt. And Chris,
here's the other thing, the other wrinkle to this. We're

(06:40):
supposed to respect people. And I've always said this when
people criticize people for not playing right, Oh this guy,
he's a baby. Oh, we gotta said something's wrong with him.
There's nothing wrong with him. We're not doctors, so we
have to value and take people at their word when
they say they're hurt. Right, you don't know that threshold

(07:00):
of pain. You can't feel what they're feeling. So I
always respect somebody when they say they're hurt, they're sick.
I gotta believe them, did I have to because I
don't know what you feel like on the inside. So
if people were to start doing this, then it would
just open up a cannon word right where you would
never know all this dude, Oh he's got a contract coming,

(07:22):
so now he don't want to play, and it would
open up such a cannon words where people would would
not take people at their word and it would be awful.
And beyond that, I mean, these types of things spread
when Lebron James and the NBA decided he wanted to
control his own destiny and go play where he wants
to play and kind of create these new fangled super teams.

(07:43):
Look at what happened. Dwight Howard wanted out of Orlando,
Chris Paul wanted out of New Orleans. Now Jimmy Butler
wants out of Minnesota, and I look, I gotta I
got beef with Jimmy Butler right now. No problem whatsoever
with him wanting to go elsewhere. You don't want to
play him inn so to fine. But in the meantime

(08:03):
until they trade you, and I got no problem with
the trade demand. You need to honor your contract and
be there in training camp, in games with it, however
long it takes them to trade you. You need to
be there honoring that contract until you're moved. Now here's
is where we differ or what I don't know, You're

(08:24):
gonna kill James Harrison but defend what Jimmy Butler's doing. Yes,
I'm all in on Jimmy Butler from this standpoint. You
know what, Chris, He's being upfront and honest. He's not
gonna come and waste people's time, go through the motions.
His heart's not there, So I can respect the guy
to say, you know what, guys, I'm out. I'm not

(08:47):
gonna come and waste your time, not practice hard, not
put my heart had. No, he doesn't want to be there.
I get what you're saying, and I'm fine. I do
think it was good that he said at the beginning
of the season. I mean, really should have done it
a few months ago, gave more time. But even now,

(09:09):
I'll give you that it gives them time to trade him,
to get some offers and things like that before they
really get into the season. So and they know we're
not gonna be able to resign him as a free agent.
So I give you that. That is good. That's better
than you know, stringing them along and acting like you
might want to be there and then you shock them

(09:30):
in free agency and leave and they get nothing in return.
That's not my issue. My issue is until you're traded,
you have an obligation, a contractual obligation to play for
the Minnesota Timberwolves. And I don't want to hear about
you know, going to practice. Your heart's not in it.
You don't practice hard, well, fine, go there and practice

(09:51):
hard when you If you don't get traded before the
season starts, then you play your best until you get traded.
You can still tell them every game after your ass Hey,
do you you still want out? Yes? I want out,
but I'm gonna do my best with for the Minnesota
Timberwolves until I'm traded. That's the honorable thing to do. Rob,

(10:12):
I can't believe you with support Butler, but not so
but criticize James Harris. But but Butler, I think it's
just being as honest as possible. And I think it's
fair to his teammates and let them know upfront. I
don't want to be here. I don't want to be here.
Why should I practice with you? I'm not gonna play here.

(10:35):
I don't want to play here. Doesn't know that, Yes
he does. Because Timbodote doesn't want to trade. What if
they can't get a decent trade doesn't matter. I mean,
they just say, let's play out look, we're gonna try
to have the best season. We can't. I know that
Timbodot's mentality. Yeah, but differs an obligation. But you don't
pay he doesn't have to get paid. I mean, right,
if he doesn't come to work, you don't have to

(10:57):
pay him. And he's saying that he doesn't want to
get paid. If he's willing to give up this money,
then that's fine. That's what he has to be willing
to do. Because Chris, he is under contract. If you
don't show up for work, what happens. You don't get paid.
It's not like, oh, I could just stay out and
they're gonna pay me anyway, because it's guaranteed money. No,
you violated the contract. So all I'm saying is I'd

(11:19):
rather a guy be honest, be straightforward. Tell me that
he does want to be because I'm I've always said.
Pat Riley said something years ago. I remember when he
was with the Knicks coaching the Knicks, and he said,
either you're in or you're out, Chris, and that's it.
There's no half stepping, there's no maybe yeah, whatever. No,

(11:40):
either you're in or you're out. And in this case,
Jimmy Butler saying I'm out. So I respect that that
he's not be asking the team. I'm fine with that.
Just don't expect to get paid. Okay, if you're cool
we're giving up the money, then that's all good. But
if you want to expect the get your money, then

(12:00):
you need to show up. Eighteen seven giving him a
little time. They're giving him a little time, which I'm
fine with if that's what they want to do before
he has to show up. But there's gonna become a point,
come a point where if you don't show up, you're
not getting paid. No, and then don't get mad when
you don't get the money. I mean, what heck? What
if the Minnesota Timbers will say, okay, you want to
play hardball, you know we haven't gotten a good offer

(12:24):
for you. We will, we will not trade you until
the February deadline. You're gonna sit out until then give
up all that money. Doesn't makes sense to me. I
hear you. And the other part in the Leaveyon when
we were talking about as well, this is different from
the Isaiah Thomaston and that. You know, people said, well

(12:44):
see what happened. Isaiah played and then he wound up
getting hurt and he wound up losing the chance of
a big contract. Isaiah rushed himself back to play for
a team, And I would say to you, never never
do that until you're healthy to play. Do you know
what I mean? I would never rushed myself back. Leonard, Right,
that's that's different. We saw it. I mean, like you said,

(13:06):
Isaiah Thomas, he cost himself at least one hundred million.
Not his fault, he was. He was showing hard, he
was showing courage being loyal to this team. But and
it came back to Biden and it shows you. And
again I have no problem with Butler being like, I'm
not loyal to this organization. I'm not loyal to this franchise.
I'm loyal to me and to my money and business interests.

(13:29):
I'm fine with that. Just don't if you're gonna sit out,
don't expect to get paid. As long as he's cool
with that, I'm fine. All right. Give us a call.
We want to hear your thoughts on this eight seven,
seven ninety nine. On Fox eight seven seven nine nine
six sixty three six nine, my man Rod Parker says

(13:50):
he has no problems with athletes being insubordinate. What do
you think? We'll continue the conversation with you. Next. It's
the Eye Couple Fox Sports Radio. It's the I Couple
Chris Bruce Sard and Rob Parker. And Rob, I'll tell
you what man. Car shopping can be confusing. There's terms

(14:12):
like dealer prices, list price invoice. True Car, however, shows
you what you really need to know, What did other
people pay for the car that you want. That way
you can recognize what's a good price and what's a
bad price. Trust me, when you're ready to buy a
new or used car, visit Truecar to enjoy a more

(14:32):
confident car buying experience. And Rob, we're talking about Leavion
Bell and what James Harrison thinks he should do, which
is go to show up with the Pittsburgh Steelers, go
to practice, practice well, and then fake it so you
don't have to play a game. You disagree with that.
I disagree with that. But where we difference on Jimmy Butler.

(14:54):
I think Jimmy Butler, if he wants to get paid,
needs to show up in practice and play for the
Minnesota Timberwolves until he gets traded. Now the team is
being good with him and They haven't fined him yet
for missing training camp or anything like that, but they
could get to a point where they can do that.

(15:15):
And you know, if he's fine giving up the money,
then okay, but don't expect to get paid if you're
not gonna show up and play. You disagree, and you
think Butler's handling it the right way. Let's see what
the college thing. Let's do that. Eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox is the telephone number, Craig in Cincinnata.
You're on the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio. How

(15:39):
y'all doing doing great? Happening good? So yeah, I kind
of disagree a little bit here. I played Division one
football's captain of my team safety Hunt Defense. I had
three surgeries and multiple concussions, and my junior year was
greatly affected by this. And so I guess the problem

(16:01):
I'm having is you're both are journalists and probably really
didn't play in competitive football where it was really, really dangerous.
I have to imagine, um, and why you why you imagine?
Why you imagine that? I mean, I I've been listening
to you guys. Yeah I never I never played football.
So yet, so like said, in consideration, right, so and

(16:22):
by the way, NBA is no comparison to what we're
talking about here. Like, really, that's crazy to me, because
in any play, at any point in time, in any second,
you're you could be out for the whole season. You
agree with James Harrison, is what you say. Definitely, Jim,
he is absolutely correct. And the reason why now here

(16:43):
You've understand I was capital team of my high school
and my college, and I'm all about team. However, that's
college in high school. When it comes to the NFL,
you're getting paid, this is your job, and if you
get injured. He's twenty six years old, right, So an
NFL running back at the age of thirty just drops
out off the face of the earth. He doesn't like
Montanian Thomason. I think by the thirty thirty one he

(17:04):
just wasn't himself anymore. And what I'm trying to say is,
I mean he's not even what the team now, what's
the difference, you know what I mean? Like when he's
not getting paid. Yeah, but that's why that's one reason
Harrison saying, show up so you can get paid and
get credit for this season and become a free agent

(17:25):
in the summer, but don't play in any games that
see I think it's dishonorable. It's fine right now because
you're not getting paid and you want to sit out
and give up that money. Fine, But once you show
up with the intention of getting paid, I think you
gotta be honest and honorable. Absolutely, And we brought up
the reasons you get when people say that they're hurt.
You have to respect that. And once you start playing

(17:47):
around with that and not having people believe you in question,
it hurts your character. And I don't think anybody wants
a guy like that where they can't trust them to
be honest. When you're talking about out health. Hey, Tony
and Tampa, you're on the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Tony, I'm right here, man. What's going on?

(18:07):
Fellas doing great? What's okay? So I gotta I gotta
tackle this from a different perspective. I'm gonna tell you
right off the back, Chris, I agree with you, and
Rob I disagree with you, And furthermore, I especially disagree
with the previous caller. And this is the thing. The
moment that we begin to live in a world where

(18:28):
people don't keep their word, It's a world that is
not worth living in. We have to prioritize our commitment,
especially as men. These men gave their words, they were
very happy to put the income on paper. They were
they were rejoicing the day they did it. To Tony.
Let me, I'm gonna let you continue, but please calm

(18:51):
down and team team leagues. Leagues have lucked players out
with deal with with collective bargeted deals, saying that no
longer want want the deal. So don't tell me that
they want their their uh, their stipulations to or changes
into the existing work rules. So so so they know

(19:11):
so they've had them. So they've done it the same
way they're There are leagues who have done that too, players.
So don't don't make it like if a player signs
a contract, there's no way that he should go back
on his work. But in the NBA, in the NFL,
obviously contracts aren't guaranteed. But in the NBA, the Timberwolves
couldn't say just say, you know what, we don't want
Jimmy Butler on the team anymore. We're just not gonna

(19:31):
pay him, Chris. They do it in the NFL all
the time. They say that's NFL signed the contract. You
can't do that. We're not happy with with you know
you at this amount of money, So we're gonna cut you,
and we could you could come back for less money. Well,
I mean, didn't you have a deal in that. You're right,
the NFL can do that. The NBA you can't, right,

(19:52):
That's what I'm saying. So so so the whole Oh, well,
you you signed your name on a contract and you're
supposed to live up to it. The teams don't do
that and the league doesn't doesn't do it, So watch
it the players. Now I's a caller still there. I
don't know. Well he's gone, Okay, he's gone. Yeah. But
now look I'm with Obviously the NFL, We've talked about

(20:14):
this before. They have a horrible collective bard In agreement
when it comes to the players. They don't guarantee their contracts.
So maybe, like I said, Levion Bell could look at
it like, hey, they're doing dirty by me, then I'm
gonna do dirty by them, Or at least that's what
James Harrison seems to be implying that he should do.
I'm saying, my thing is in the NBA, and I'm

(20:36):
just saying if Jimmy Butler wants to give up the
money and not show up, then fine, And there is
a real look in the NBA. I don't know how
much hardball the Timberwolves are gonna play with them their
owners ready to trade him, so I do think they're
gonna end up moving him. But if he wanted to
sit out most of the season or a chunk of
the season, there would come a point, and it's not

(20:59):
really stipulated it in the NBA rule book, but there
comes a point where the team can basically that that
season would not count as a full season for the player,
and then you can't become a free agent. So if
you really want to play hardball, it goes both ways,

(21:19):
That's all I'm saying. Yeah, But for players Chris, sometimes
the only option they have in the NFL, especially because
of the terrible collective bargain agreement, the only way they
could get paid is by holding out. We saw Aaron Donald.
That's got nothing to do with Jimmy Butler, right right,
But I'm just saying NFL is a different anthem. We
didn't we different? And then we see Khalil Mack. What

(21:39):
did he do? He didn't go, he didn't show up, right,
and they wind up trading them and he got his contract.
Aaron Donald with the Rams didn't didn't show up, and
what do you do? He got his contract. So this
is the this is the route that sometimes you have
to take. And in Jimmy Butler's case, Jimmy Butler will
get what he wants by not showing up. That's just
that simple. When he doesn't show up, you're going to

(22:01):
trade him. You're not going to keep around a guy
who doesn't want to be there. It's just that simple. Yeah,
but you you want the team to honor his contract
to you, you should honor your contract to him. And
all I'm saying is play until they trade you. You
can make a lot of noy. You can just just
by him saying I don't want to play here every day.

(22:24):
Whatever would get him traded. But you know, we'll see
about that. The NFL knows they made a mistake with
that new rough and to pass a rule, but do
they have the guts to change it. Jared Bell from
USA Today will tell us next, but first it's Deaf
Carson for the Latest in Sports. Hey, guys, Bill's running
back Lashawn McCoy says he will be playing week four

(22:46):
against the Packers. He's returning from his rib injury. Jags
running back Leonard Fournette practice today. He's missed two games
with a strained hamstring, and Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says
he hopes that wide receiver aj Green will be playing
against the Falcons on Sunday. Green has an groin injury
that he is dealing with. Another NFL news, Titans quarterback

(23:06):
Marcus Mariota will be the starter Week four against the
Eagles as he returns from his elbow injury. Chargers defensive
end Joey Bosa told reporters he may not return to
action until after the Chargers buy week. You know online
car shopping can be confusing, not anymore. With True Price

enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Have some baseball

(23:29):
notes for you. Cubs can clinch a playoff spot tonight.
They will be taking on the Pirates. They get underway
less than an hour from now. They can clinch with
either win or a Cardinals lost. Cardinals taken on the
Brewers right now They're in the bottom of the first inning,
Braves and Mets are scoreless top of the second. Atlanta
still jockeying for seating in the nfl NL playoff picture,

(23:50):
and reports out of New York say the Mets are
hesitant to play David Right against the Braves this week.
Mets reportedly want to protect the integrity of the game
since Atlantis in the hunt for seating position. Toronto's John
Gibbons will not be returning as the Blue Jays manager
next season. One game is in the books. By the way,
the Red Sox ripped the Orioles nineteen three in game
one of a double header. J D. Martinez hit his

(24:13):
forty second home rund of the season, and just something
to ponder. Boston is sixty one and a half games
up on Baltimore in the as standing stop, what are
you talking about, poor Buck Show Walter. He's gonna leave
Baltimore after like the worst season in the history of
basis sixty one and a half. Oh my gosh, that's

(24:34):
hard to do that if you try. I mean, it's
it's hard for the Red and the Red Sox are
great too, so let's not to what you know, sixty
one and a half games back. But it's even I mean,
think about what the Red Sox have had such a
season that the Yankees is gonna win a hundred games
and be ten games on the first place, right, what
a hundred wins? Yeah, that's unlivable? Is that's unbelievable? Thanks?

(24:57):
Thanks the Odd Couple, Chris, Bruce Hard and Rob Parker.
Fox Sports Radio. We're coming you live as always from

(25:18):
is easier. We're blessed to have our next guest's Jared Bell,
long time NFL columnists with USA Today, one of the
best in the business. You can follow him on Twitter
and at Jared Bell. Jared, Welcome to the Eye Couple.
How you doing all right? The Odd Couple? So I
know the same music? Okay, Yes, I'm still trying to

(25:39):
figure out if you guys are entertangeable when it comes
to who gets to be Oscar, because I mean he
was We've been battling, We've been battling over which one's oscars.
So no doubt what I was going to go back
and forth. But Chris, I love the way you introduced
to introduced Jared because we've both known Jared for a

(25:59):
long time. He's one of the best in the business.
So it's a pleasure to have you on the program,
no question, Jared. Let's get right to it. I mean,
we've seen a lot of comments from NFL players, former players,
even quarterbacks, even Alex Smith who benefited from this rough
independalty or passer call with Clay Matthews last week. They're

(26:21):
criticizing this rule. Is your experience around the league? I mean,
is this pretty much a universal feeling around the league
that nobody thinks this rule has been called correctly? And
if so or if not, what do you think the
NFL is going to do about it? Yeah, there's a
couple of things. Um, you know, you have your quarterback

(26:42):
hit list, right, especially if you're a defensive guy like
I want to get that guy. I want to get
that guy. You know. So we're used to quarterbacks being
the hunted, right, but now you can put together this
list of which quarterbacks have come out in support of
you know, tweaked this rule, Ben Rothberger, you mentioned Alex Smith,
and you know there are a few more guys out

(27:03):
there who have said, no, this is not quite the
way it is, and even former quarterbacks like Troy Aikman
critical of it. So what can they do now? Well,
think back, what back in ancient history about a month
ago in the beginning of the preseason with the helmet rule,
and we had all of these flags through the first

(27:24):
couple of weeks of preseason, and then all of a
sudden the flags stopped. And now people are saying, hey,
wasn't that helmet the helmet? Well, in week two of
the preseason it was, but it's not. Now. They had
a conversation, you know, with the Competition Committee and the
officiating department, et cetera, and they kind of tweaked how
they are going to call it, how you interpret this,

(27:45):
And there's always a great area of interpretation with rules,
just it's inherent and officiating right, And so now I
think what's gonna happen. They're gonna have another conference called
next week, which is regularly scheduled to it's not like
an emergency thing, but when they have these calls, they
review kind of how the rules are flowing and what

(28:08):
could be addressed, etc. And obviously they're going to have
this conversation, and I fully expect that Al river Ron,
the NFL's director of officiating, will be working very hard
with this crew. Then they have constant dialogue with the
officials anyway, obviously, but they'll be talking about, Hey, how
are we going to officiate this and put it in

(28:30):
some proper context because the play Matthews hit the other
day I think is exhibit a for how you just
can't make these calls. And then you see guys like
William Hayes with the Dolphins tearing ACL and you know,
it's a difficult thing for the defenders and they're used
to having the rules tilted against them. But this is

(28:53):
to the degree, Jared, you were at the Rams Chargers
game on Sunday. I saw you there in the press
box and the Rams cornerback of team to leave is
have an ankle surgery Thursday. Is this a blow? The
Rams look as good as anybody in the NFL. I
guess they're saying he's going to be out only a
few weeks after ankle surgery. Yeah, it's a blow, and

(29:17):
that four weeks could turn into six weeks could turn
into eight weeks. The fact that it happened here in
the first quarter of the season is you know, fortunate
for them because you know, when we look at the
NFL and how these seasons progress, you know, so many
things can change during the course of the season. I mean,
you could look like, you know, the best team in
the league in September, and then by the time you

(29:38):
get to January, you've got guys beat up or out,
injured and not available in all of that. So that's
always an X factor. The NFL is a war of attrition.
So the fact that this happened now and he can
come back, okay. But the thing you like about the
Rams is that they do have a lot of depth,
and I think they are the most complete team in football.

(29:59):
And when you talk about complete teams, you're also talking
about special teams. I think you know, they've had more
pro bowled special teams players than any team in the
league the last several years, and that has proved to
be a real strength for them right now. So you
look at their offense, the defense, and I think they
can withstand this. So we'll see if other things challenge

(30:22):
them physically as they go along. I mean the kicker
greg their lines out. So now you're getting a tight game.
Can you really kind On says sticking right. I don't know,
and I think some people will say, no, you really can't.
But the one thing the Rams have going for them
that I think will allow them to get over this
thing is they've got this high powered offense, and the

(30:44):
high powered offense built around Todd Gurley, but also including
so many weapons. They've got so many ways that can
attack the So if they can score thirty thirty five
points a game, which they've been doing so far this season,
they could probably win a shootout if they have to.
But this is gonna be a great test for them
on Thursday night because the Vikings, you know, have two

(31:07):
of the better receivers in the league, and you know
Stefon Diggs and Adam Feeling. You can just ask the
New Orleans Saints about Stefon Diggs. So it'll be a
test form But I think they've got the offense that
can kind of take some of the pressure off the defense. Jared,
let's go over to the AFC. The Steelers. We know
the situation with Leveon bell to reports are that they're
open to trading him and listening to offers from teams. Now,

(31:31):
where do things stand with a Bell trade. I don't
know if that's really a realistic thing. There have been
teams that have reached out to the Steelers. They are
listening now, kind of reversing their stance from earlier this
year throughout the year really and so it will be
interesting to see if somebody is going to essentially rent

(31:53):
Leveon Bell for the rest of the year. But with
him being in this franchise tax situation, even if you're
the Jets, that's one team that you think about that
and has been linked to reports as being interested the
Indianapolis coach. That's another team that people around the league
have said that's a spot for him when he becomes
a free agent next year. Even if those teams were

(32:15):
to make a deal to get Bell now, there's still
a big degree of risk both ways with the team
and with Bell, who wants a big tim a big,
big time contract obviously, because you're gonna come in and
then there's always that injury risk. So how does that
affect what happens going on? So for a team to
make a deal with the Steelers right now, give them
a you know, a big price to say, well take

(32:36):
this guy off their hands. Then they've got the problem
in air quotes, right of getting LEVIOND. Bell to agree
to a long term deal, they got the same problems. Yeah,
so he still doesn't want to go out and get
hurt no matter who he's playing for. Right, Oh totally. So,
So you look at it, So what what kind of

(32:57):
team would want to trade for Leveon Bell. It has
to be somebody that is in contention to really do something. Now,
the Jets are interesting because and like all these coaches, man,
you are on year to year deals in a lot
of cases, right, even though you may have an extensive
going out for musciple years like Todd Bowls has, but
there's no guarantee. So if you're gonna say, catch the Patriots,

(33:21):
this is a move that I know the coaches will
probably go for. But in terms of the long term
planning for a team and the risk and the uncertainty
of what happens long term, that's the problem. But I
talked to Bell's agency other day at Deca Bakari and
he insists that Bell has been working out in Miami.
I know he's been doing some Jet skin down there,

(33:42):
and that he's in safe to be able to come
in and contribute rather quickly once he does get back.
When I talked to Mike Tomlin about it a few
weeks ago, now you know, his thing was just like
it was last year. We'll see where he's at when
he gets here, but we know him and we know
the type of worker he is, so you throw all

(34:04):
that in the equation too, in terms of whether he
can come in and help with the stills or not.
It's it's interesting because one of the last big running
back holdouts that it comes to minds Emmett Smith with
the Dallas Cowboys. But that was a little bit different situation.
It wasn't franchise tag right. He was grossly underpaid. But

(34:24):
the Cowboys were coming off a Super Bowl team, right,
and they started owing two and they lost against Buffalo
in Week two. I was actually at that game at
Texas Stadium and they were owing two. There's no Emmets
and Charles Haley is in the locker room after the game,
comes up to Jerry Jones who's standing alongside the wall,

(34:45):
and Haley takes his helmet and he swings it and
puts a big dent in the wall right next to
Jerry Jones right was signed the next day. Yeah, pretty much,
and then they went on to win the Super Bowl. Right.
Not only that, but he was the heartbeat of that
team's dissim for Levion Bell because the Steelers they rely

(35:08):
on and look, they got James Connor filling in that flot,
which a lot of NFL teams will try to do anyway,
especially at that running back position. You try to develop
a guy and you don't have to pay him like
you're gonna pay Roethlisberger or Antonio O'Brien or some big
stud pass rusher. But um, yeah, that's a that's a
game of chicken right now. But I think Bell's gonna

(35:30):
come in at some point, but I don't expect it
to happen for a few weeks, unless, of course, there
is some kind of trade. All right, great stuff, Jared.
We appreciate you joining us, and keep up the great work.
We'll talk to you down see you down the road
for sure. All right, fella, let's have a good time.
I appreciate a good luck on the show. Thank you,
thank you. We're gonna find out very soon what really
matters to Bryce Harper. That's next is the I Couple

(35:52):
of Fox Sports Radio. It's the I Couple Chris brus A,
Rob Parker, and we've got great news for you. It's
a quick way you can save money. Switch to Geico.
Go to Geico dot com and in fifteen minutes you
could say fifteen percent or more on your car insurance.
Rob Let's move over to baseball and Bryce Harper Tonight

(36:14):
could be his last game, his last home game for
the Washington Nationals, last game in Washington, d C. Chris,
the game I think was just called because it was
a rain delay, and Bryce Harper came out and uh,
you know, saluted to people who were left. It wasn't
a big, you know, big crowd because people had left

(36:36):
because it was raining for so long, and they had
their signs in the stands, you know, uh, saluting him
and whatnot. So I just wanted to give you that
just ended. The game was just called. Yes, So I
mean they this isn't a game with playoff him. It's
a game against the Marlins. It's nine to three. It

(36:56):
was in the seventh inning, you know what I mean.
So also they did play, Okay, they did, they played
they okay, they did play. Yeah, they played seven inchs
and they called it right. Okay, okay, so that may
have been his last game. I mean, we know the
talk Chicago, New York, as far as the Yankees, U,
the LA Dodgers, the Boston rad Sox, Philadelphia Phillies. He

(37:17):
could end up in any of those spots. That's what
people think. Could get four hundred million dollars or more
in terms of a contract. Where do you think he's
going to end up? It's a good question. At one point,
early on, I thought, when the time came, that he
would wind up with the Yankees. He grew up in
Las Vegas, but grew up as a Yankee fan. You know,

(37:39):
was looking to be the first four hundred million dollar player.
Which franchise has enough to pay that, The New York Yankees, right,
So I figured all that stuff on line. But when
they got Stanton and they have Judge, and they have
so many of these other young players, Chris, I don't
see it as a fit anymore. I would be stunned

(38:00):
if the Yankees sign Bryce Harper. I mean the money,
obviously it would be crazy. But the Yankees, we know
they love star power. You can never have enough Stars.
If you're the New York Yankee and Bryce Harper certainly
is that I would like to see him go there.
And this is my thought. If you don't go to

(38:22):
the Yankees and maybe I throw in the Red Sox,
then why you're leaving? Assuming the money's equal? Now we
know Washington just may not have the heart to spend
four hundred million dollars on Bryce Harper. If that's the case,
then obviously I see him leaving and going to maybe
the highest bidder. But if all things are equal and

(38:43):
everybody's essentially offering the same amount of money except and
the Yankees or Red Sox aren't in that group, why
leave Washington? Why leave Washington to go to Chicago? You know,
I know he's got you know, good relationships there, friends there, Yeah,
or the Dodgers or fill it Delphia. You've got talent
in Washington. They got the right, they got the pitching staff,

(39:08):
they second in the in the National League, and runs scored.
They've been disappointing. It's not that they haven't had talent,
they just haven't played up to it. So I'm like,
why would you leave? Do you think he just wants
out of Washington? Or he would stay if the money
was was equal. I think I think there's a chance.
And and and he was very very diplomatic and talking

(39:29):
about it that he wasn't like, well, I'm out of here.
There's nothing I can do about it. They didn't sign
me to a deal. He wasn't. He was very positive
about Washington and uh so that he left the door
open that it's not like inconceivable if the money's right,
but he's not given DC a hometown discount, that that's
just not happening. You think he's going to the highest bidder.

(39:53):
I do. I just think that it's just not it's
not gonna happen. That there's a lot of money out there.
And if the Chicago Cubs, with the players they have
and the history, these are all good situations, all of them.
What's a bad team? No bad teams? No, So you
to come out to southern California and play for the historic,

(40:14):
uh historically great franchise like the Dodgers. Right, well, let
let me hit you with this. Would it be Do
you think it would be wise or worth it for
Washington to give him four hundred million. I don't know
about four hundred I would give him a lot of money.
I don't think I would go to that four hundred

(40:35):
million dollar place. I don't think he had I don't
think his season was good enough the last. If you're
any team, okay, I don't see. I don't see Washington.
Do you match whatever's out there? If the Yankees offer
three seventy five, I wouldn't would you go there? I
wouldn't match, but I wouldn't go four hundred. All right,

(40:55):

(41:43):
the show each and every day. And we got Dwight
Howard coming up at the bottom of the hour. You
don't want to miss that, the eight time NBA All
Star with the Washington Wizards. Now and you know Dwhite
had a bounceback season last year's statistic lee but still
doesn't seem to be viewed as you know, one of

(42:04):
the great players in the league anymore. So a lot
to talk about that because around ten teams, is that
what he's been moved around quite a bit? Oh, you
got a drum roll for that? Yes, seriously, I medn't
get the one one. No, that was good. That was no,
don't give that to Chris, don't give that to me. Well, look,

(42:25):
you're giving the one one to Tiger Woods, who recently
was just asking a Ryder cut promotional video that just
came out. He was asked to give his Mount Rushmore
of golf and here is the sound of Tiger doing that,
my all time Mount Rushmore of golf. Okay, well, far

(42:45):
as sneed Jones Nicholas me. Of course, that's Bobby Jones
who created or founded the Masters. And you know it
was the only golfer to have a cold Grand Slam.
Jack Nicholas of course with eighteen majors, and Sam Steed,
who has the most PA PJA wins eighty two, and

(43:09):
Tiger's closing in on that with eighty with his recent victory.
But look, I got no problem with his Mount Rushmore
none whatsoever. I just threw up in my mouth. I mean, seriously, Chris,
feel sick. You don't. You don't do that when when
they ask you that question and you have to include yourself,

(43:30):
it sounds ridiculous. Tiger, I would say, hey, that's not
for me to put together, okay. Or if I do
do a list, I don't include my name. It's for
people other than me, or if I believe I even't
belonged there. But you don't go out and say that.
It comes across as tacky to put your knowing on

(43:51):
the list. It just does. If you're Arnold Palmer, who
was great, don't get me wrong, but somebody that's questionable,
that's one thing. But when it's so blatantly obvious that
you're on the Mount Rushmore and it is, there's no
if sands or butts, I'm sure you agree with that.
That Tigers on the Mount Rushmore Golf. Wait a minute,

(44:13):
a minute, why are you poopo uh Arnold? Why are
you pop him? I'm saying he's a guy that's close,
but it's questionable. If Tiger had put him on there,
a lot of people would have been cool with that.
But it's not definitive Tiger Woods. It's Jack Nicholas and

(44:34):
Tiger Woods. There's no way you have a Mount Rushmore
without them on it. And my point is if you're
in that class, if you're in that category, then it's
okay to be honest. Anything else comes off. It's false humility.
If Michael Jordan were asked, were you are you on
the Mount Rushmore back bet you No, he don't. That's

(44:59):
not what he would We would know he I don't know.
Has he ever been asked at Chris. He has never
said he's the greatest player of all time because you
don't have to say it. You don't have to say it.
It's stupid if you have to tell Benest, no, you're
not Tiger Woods. Was being honest. I'm never gonna rip
a guy for being honest. It's humility, Wizard humility, Chris,

(45:20):
You're missing the point. Humility. He's not good. It's not good.
It would be lying. He's not long. Nos, he's on
the fall Mount rush Golf and everybody else knows. The
real deal is that's not for me to determine. That's
not for me to determine. But that's my point. It's

(45:42):
so obvious that it's for nobody to determine, because it's
clear Tiger Woods is on the Mount Rushmore. You you
if Michael Jordan said, yeah, I'm I'm on the Mount Rushmore,
you would be mad at him. He obviously on the
Mount Rushmore. I think that he would never say that.
I can remember Ron said it, well, but there you go.
I know he Lebron said it. He said he remember

(46:06):
he said a few years ago. I think it was
an interview with Ridiculous. He said, they gotta they gotta
put a space for me on there. But that's and
it's now. Lebron obviously is I think one of the
greatest four players of all time. If your Mount Rushmore
was about significance to the game, impact on the game,
that could be questionable. But if you're that great and

(46:30):
you're clearly up there, then I have no problem with it,
and I might think of Arnold Palmer as being up
there only because he you know that Arnold Palmer drink
with the ice tea and lemonade. That should count for something. Well,
look again, Arnie was I think Arnie was close. He
didn't get the drum. No, No, that was good. Come on,

(46:54):
I love the Arnold Palmer. But you're always trying out
your material for whatever with that day, you that faithful
day when you get that stand. When I get up
on the stage, you know I'm gonna be right there
in the front row. But Y don't tease. He'll be
heckling me. Eight seven seven. I want to hear what
other people if they get in, because Chris, I hear

(47:15):
your point. Yes, uh will Tiger Woods be in most
people's uh Mount Rushmore? Yes he would be. But I
think there's a degree of humility where you just would
never acknowledge. I remember reading a story where Derek Rose
was talking about the foul calls against him, and he said,
I should be getting I shouldn't. I should be getting

(47:37):
calls because I'm a superstar. And I thought to myself,
who calls themselves a superstar? I just thought to myself,
that makes no sense to me. That you wouldn't have
to tell me. There are a lot of players that
view I mean again, and maybe you don't say it,
don't like maybe you don't like the guy I mean,
or you just feel a certain way about him. Lebron

(47:59):
yesterday at a press conference in la when they asked him,
how do you expect to, you know, win over the
trust of the Lakers fans, and he he basically said,
I'm a superstar. Term the term. He didn't use the
term before. It's clear for Lebron James to say anything
but I'm a superstar. It's just flat out lying and

(48:22):
false humility because you know he doesn't feel that way.
It's not false humility, it's humility. Crisp to be able
to allow other people to to give you your laurels
and talk about how great you are, not for you
to do it. That's what you miss. False humility is
being honest. That's what humility is, and not throwing your

(48:46):
greatness in people's faces. I don't think Tiger was throwing
his greatness in anybody's face. He was asked the question,
he gave an honest answer that I think anybody would
agree with. Eight seven seven ninety nine Fox. I don't
agree with it. I think that you let other people
do that give you the accolades. You don't tell people
how great you are. And I should be on Mount

(49:06):
Rushmore and you should make a spot for me in
the Hall of Fame. I just don't. I don't. I
don't believe in that. I think that you're you're what
you pod, what you've done speaks for itself. Chris, you
don't have to say it. Rob. You're the same guy
that defended Terrell Owens not going to the Hall of Fame.
Why because he was offended that they didn't put him

(49:28):
in on the first ballot. That's the same thing. I
should have been a first ballot Hall of Fame. No,
because there was a reason why they didn't do it
that had nothing to do with his football career. Hey,
we got we got people at a jammed here that
want to get in and set the record straight with you, Chris,
So let's do that. You ready with me? All right?
Do it? Ryan and Oregon you're on the odd couple

(49:50):
on Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Ryan? Rob? Chris? Love
you guys, So thank you Rob. You need to shut up.
Thank you, Bro. I got problem with Tiger doing that. Listen,
I am the biggest Arnold Palmer fan. Every time I
go to eat, I ordered all I drive out of

(50:11):
my way to play Arnold Palmer courses. But guess what,
Tiger is that good? There's no reason he should have
put himself on that, all right? I just think that
with you there you go? Right? I hear you call
us anytime, right, Hey, b in Sacramento. You're on the

(50:31):
odd couple on radio? What's up? Love? The show? Thank You?
Thank You? Is wrong? Rob is right. The question, if
I'm not mistaken, was who's on your Amount Rushmore? I've heard,
I've heard Doctor Jay asked that question, he says, Tonny Hawkins,
he says, he says that he never includes himself. Yes,

(50:53):
is wrong. You don't include Jay. Don't doctor Jay. He's
probably not a on it. Oh look at you, Chris,
but you would never put yourself on it. They ask
the question, Look so you mad? When Lebron put himself
on Mount Rushmore, he was wrong too. They didn't ask
the question, is on your Mount Rushmore? That's if Tiger's

(51:17):
on his Mount Rushmore, then what's the problem? Man? Tiger man?
This is wrong. Dude. You don't do that. He shouldn't
have to do that. You shouldn't That's the point. Be
Thanks for the full ask the question. He gave an
honest answer. He knows he is one of the best,
one of the most significant, one of the most impactful
four golfers in history. I actually probably wanted the two.

(51:40):
Let's squeeze one more in and if you still want
to get in take him. What calls eight seven seven
ninety nine Fox Stephen in Oregon. You're on the Odd
Couple on Fox Sports Radio. What's up Stephen? Hey, guys,
how are you. I hope you're doing well. I love
you guys the show. Thank you, buddy. Golf professional here
in Oregon. I'm a huge Tiger fan. I'm forty years old,

(52:01):
grew up watching him in his hey day. Undoubtedly deserves
to be on Mount Rushmore. I wish he wouldn't have
said it. I'm a huge fan though I have no
problem with it, but I how much funnier would it
have been if he had said something like given his
three and then winked and said, hey, you know who
the fourth is or I'll let you guys decide. Yes. Yeah,
that's humility. You're absolutely if he if if he had

(52:24):
winked and said, you guys know who's number four? Would
that that wouldn't have been any different. Yes, it would
happen off. It would have been more witty, it would
have been whittier, but it wouldn't have He still would
have been saying himself, he is undoubtedly the greatest golfer
of all time, no question. Jack Jack is a close second.

(52:46):
I would put Hogan up there. Maybe numbers you know three,
but you know again then you can then you bring
in a whole debate of who's who, But undoubtedly Tiger
is the greatest of all time. And one quick other point,
I think Michael Jordan would would always have said he
would have been on there if you if I remember
his Hall of Fame induction speech, he might He basically
did say he was the greatest fall he trashed everybody

(53:08):
who was his way. Yeah, and that one. All right, Look,
we we've always talked about how guys that are that great.
It takes a certain amount of ego, rob you know that.
I get that. I mean when I was at the
NABJ Awards ceremony, I didn't put myself on a sportswriter's
uh a mouth washmore only because they didn't ask. That's

(53:31):
the only reason. And you know it, all right, we
got more, I got a drug, all right? Well. Look,

of the reasons why I love Mike so much, because Mike,
even though he knew he was the best, he never
said it, and Lebron did. Tiger should have left his
name off, Man. Let other people decide that. You know
what I mean, No way I would ever mention my name.

(55:19):
You're not supposed to do that. Let other people pat
you on the back, don't do it yourself. I think
there's a level where you're at it. It's rare, it's
but they're only a handful of people at that level
where it just is ridiculous to leave yourself off. And
I think Tiger, Michael Jordans, those people are at that level.
All right. Jacob in Las Vegas, you're on the Odd

(55:42):
Couple on Fox Sports Radio. What's up Jacob? Hey, guys,
are you doing doing good? Great? I got a question
for you. Yes, I'm a fan of mister Muhammad Ali.
What's that you say? Are you a fan of Muhammad Ali? Yeah,
but that was totally different because because hold on, let
me you just ask me question. Let me just tell

(56:03):
you and then I'll let you go, all right, Jacob,
I will let you say. Let Jacob have his say. Okay.
But what what I'm just saying is that was a
part of selling boxing at the time, and and his
his m or what you know, bye bye, by saying
the rhymes and saying I'm pretty and all that and
I'm the greatest and all that. That was a part
of his act for selling himself as Muhammad Ali in

(56:26):
a boxer. There were money Mayweather do, that's the same thing,
and people there were a lot of people who hated
Muhammad Ali before that reason he did. But I did
get it. I understood what he was doing. So yes,
go ahead, Jacob. Yeah, I mean zero humility on his
part though he's always gonna tell you he's the greatest.
And I don't think it was an act. I think
if you got Muhammad Ali outside the ring, one I

(56:46):
want to say, who was the best boxer all time?
He'd say me, if you're asking him at the press garments,
he saying me, it doesn't matter. He thought he was
the greatest, and that's why he was the greatest, because
he believed it, and then he went out and performed it.
All right, Jacob, I'm with Jacob. That's a good car,
all um. And I think, look, I think we'd have
to say as much. And we both love Ali. I mean, who,
no doubt who doesn't. But I think I think it

(57:07):
must be a d he wasn't. I'd say Tiger was
more humble than Ali was. Oh, there's no doubt about
it in the whole thing. But I think Jacob, I
think the temperature is one hundred and twenty in Phoenix,
and he's got a little love. It's a little hot there.
So Jacob was a little thrown off maybe. Well, look,
speaking of the greatest there you I'm not even gonna

(57:28):
say it, all right. The music speaks for itself. Speaking
of the greatest. Uh, let's move on to the greatest
team in the NBA, and that clearly is not the
Los Angeles Lakers. It is the Golden State Warriors, and
they might be coming to an end. I mean, Steve
Kerr basically said this could be the last yea. Let's

(57:50):
hear from his the horse's mouth. We are playing with
some house money. Our place and the history of the
league is pretty secure. I don't think our guys should
feel a ton of pressure, you know. I think they
should feel the importance of trying to do it again,
because you know, this may be the last time we
have this current iteration of the Warriors just giving all

(58:12):
the free agents and the money Crunch and everything else.
So we don't we don't know what's going to happen,
So why not just go go all out and enjoy
every step of the way. Two words he said, really
uh got you upset? Rob? Riled up? Money crunch? Yes,
what money crunch? You mean the Warriors who are leaving

(58:34):
Oakland and building his brand new, uh spanking state arena
in San Francisco, gouging people for I think they have
the PSLs where you got to buy a license to
buy tickets. Can you check that, Rob? I think I
think they have a p That's true. Okay, So so
all the fans and all those people for years who

(58:55):
came out when they weren't good right and sold that
place out because you've covered games there, You remember that
those fans in Oakland wars die hard when when when
they couldn't sniff a championship, And now they're selling out
those people. I was gonna say, and you know what
I mean, they began selling them out right after they
won the championship. When I went to the second straight

(59:16):
you know, they were in the finals the second straight year,
twenty sixteen. I was like, this crowd is like totally different.
And then I was told that, you know, when they
raised the ticket prices, they basically priced out those all
those fans who had been die harder, most of them
who used to sit courtside. They were known for that

(59:36):
rob like, you know, these great fans even though the
team was poor, the arena was loud. It's not the
same anymore because now they've got the rich people in
the front rows who can afford it, and their home
court advantage is not what it used to be. And
it's gonna be even worse, probably in San Francisco, probably
even worse because it'll all be the monkety MUCKs and

(59:58):
the people with the big bucks. But this whole notion,
this is why players have to get what they want
because it's funny they ask players to take pay cuts,
and they they asked Kevin Durant to take a pay
cut so that the owner doesn't have to pay a
lot of money on the luxury tax. How dare you
a guy who's worth a couple of billion dollars asking

(01:00:20):
a player for essentially NBA welfare. He's asking for NBA
welfare and asking a player to help him out when
these guys are about to gouge to fans, Chris and
make money hand over fish. No, you're right, You're right.
And I don't know exactly what they paid for the Warriors,

(01:00:40):
but whenever they choose to sell, it's gonna be several
billion dollars that they sell that team for. So yeah,
you know I can't argue with you. You know you
you I don't know that you've ever seen a team
with four MAX players on it. I don't think you have.
I could be wrong, No, I don't think so. You're

(01:01:01):
Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, Draymond Green. They're all
gonna be looking for the MAX. I think Clay will
take a little little discount and maybe Draymond too. And
I don't fault players for doing it. If you want
to do that, then fine. I actually, you know I
would tell players. You know, look, I'd rather be happy

(01:01:23):
and in a great situation that I enjoy, even if
I'm making a few dollars less. When you're talking about
this type of money or times when you left the
New York Times go to ESPN, ESPN paid you less, right, No,
but I will tell you this, uh my one. I
think my second contract with ESPN, I could have gotten

(01:01:45):
more money to go elsewhere, but I was happy at ESPN,
so I took less money to be there. All right,
That's fair? Can happen? I mean, you know, and I'm not.
I wasn't making you know, I'm not making the millions
obviously that these players are. But look a time NBA
All Star to why Howard joins us? Next, but first
let's get the dab Carson for the latest in sports.

(01:02:05):
OH a few updates regarding the games in progress with
playoff implications. Yankees can clinch tonight the AL wildcard the
top spot with a win and a loss by Oakland.
Right now, the Yankees trail to raise four three Tampa
Bay with a lead there in the top of the
fourth inning, A's and Mariners get underway. Just after ten.
Eastern Cubs have a two one lead over the Pirates.

(01:02:27):
Top of the first at Wrigley Field. Brewers up one
nothing at the Cardinals. Bottom of the fourth and what
is an elimination a game for the Cardinals, not as
far as the wild card goes, but as far as
the NL Central Braves and Mets are scoreless. Bottom of
the fifth inning. Red Sox playing the second of a
double header against the Orioles. Sox took the first one
at nineteen three, and they trail Baltimore with a two

(01:02:48):
one lead at Fenway top of the fourth, Indian fourth inning,
Indians with a one nothing lead over the White Sox
top of the first. Online car shopping can be confusing,

A couple of notes from the NFL. Bills running back
Lashawn McCoy says he will play Sunday at Green Bay

(01:03:09):
after missing time with a rib injury. Jags running back
Leonard Fournette practiced today after missing the last two weeks
with a hamstring injury, and Titans quarterback Marcus Mariotta says
he is playing Week four against the Eagles. Missed two
starts with the elbow injury. Guys, what happened? Yankees leaning three? Nothing, debb.

(01:03:30):
I thought they were raised. Just took the four three lead. Wow. Yeah,
And by the way, I didn't mention this did. Gregorius
has been cleared to resume baseball activities. The Yankees had
thought he might be done for the rest of the season,
but he had a cordzone shot Sunday on that that
right wrist, and he's recovering a lot faster than they thought.
Good news Yankees. Yep, yes, great And you know, just

(01:03:52):
baseball fans in general, absolutely for the playoffs, right, you
want him to be in the playoffs? Yep, yep, yep.
It's the eye couple. Chris Bruss, Rod Parker. We're coming
you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's
easy to say fifteen percent or more in your car
insurants with Geico. Go to Geico dot com or call
eight hundred nine four seven Auto. The only hard part

(01:04:14):
figuring out which way is easier and our next guest,
I have. I first met Dwight Howard when he was
a senior in high school. One of one of the
best players, if not the best player in the country
at that time. I think they were talking about him
playing a small forward back then too, but he's obviously
gone on had a great NBA career, eight time NBA

(01:04:35):
All Star now with the Washington Wizards. You can follow
him on Twitter at at Dwight Howard. Dwight Welcome to
the Eye Couple. Is great to have you on. Yes, third,
thanks for having me. Thanks for having me. But DWIGHTE.
You guys in Washington, you got a great backcourt, one
of the top five in the league in Bradley Bill
and John Wall. You are coming off a very productive

(01:04:59):
season last year at center. What should we expect from
the Washington Wizards this year? Honestly? I mean, can you
guys contend in the Eastern Conference? Yes, sir, I think we, uh,
we should be, you know, top three in the East.
You know, we got got a lot of experience, m de.

(01:05:19):
We have some really good guards, and you know we're hungry.
You know a lot of people have gutted us. You know,
we got you know, a lot of things to prove
this season, and uh, we're hungry, Dwight, do you like
this NBA? And I've been covering to the NBA since
nineteen eighty seven, and uh, we just get to the
point now where you kind of before Lebron went to

(01:05:42):
the Lakers, now he's in the Western Conference. It was
almost automatic the last few years, which teams are going
to be in the finals. Guys are teaming up together
to make super teams. And basically, you know, it's it's
a league that's has a it's not it doesn't have
a competitive balance to it. Do you like the league is?
Do you feel there's a real competitive balance or does

(01:06:03):
it not bother you? Well, you know, playing on the court, man,
you know, everybody competes. You know, maybe there's some teams
that are less salited than others, but as far as competing,
you know, nobody's out there just playing around. You know.
You just we've had some really good teams. You know,
you look at Golden States, they really set the bar

(01:06:25):
with you know, what to expect out of a really
good team. Nowadays, there some really good teams coming up
in the East. UM seem to West has been strong
the last couple of years. But you know, if you
look at the records, you know, a lot of the
Eastern Comfort Team, Eastern COMF teams when they went over
to the West Coast, they did some really good job.

(01:06:47):
They did a really good job. So you know, I
think that East is getting a lot stronger. I think
our team really has a shot. You know, this ship
contend to Core championship. Dwight. You know, I talked to
people around the league and what I constantly here and
I know you've heard this before too, is teams just

(01:07:07):
want you to rebound and defend and run the floor
and get your easy baskets that way. And they tell me,
but Dwight wants to post up and just have us
throw him the ball. How do you feel when you
hear that? And will you have a different approach this
year at all in Washington, like focusing just on rebounding

(01:07:28):
and defending or what I think my whole career. I
think my whole career, I've always focused on rebounding and
and playing defense, and I've done an excellent job that,
you know, my whole career. But in order for me
to continue to play at this level for the next
couple of years. You know, there's a couple of things

(01:07:50):
that I do have to get better at, and I
thought last year I made a big step for shoot
the ball, shot more big range shots, my defense presented.
My defensive percentage was higher than it has been in
the last couple of years. But my focus has always
been on defense. But you know, I am dominant down

(01:08:11):
on the block, and you know, I personally feel that,
you know, that is a weapon that can be used.
But I've never shied away from setting screens. I think
that's been something that people say that I don't like
to do, but I've done in my whole career and
it's made a great living for me, you know, so
I would never go away from that. So I know

(01:08:35):
a lot of people say things, but you know, for me,
I try to do whatever I can to empty team
in and let's post them out. Let's taking roles on
whatever it is. You know, I'm able to do it.
It's the odd couple. On Fox Sports Radio, we're talking
with Dwight Howard, Washington Wizards center, an eight time NBA
All Star. Dwight, when I think about your career, I
think about that moment when it appeared you were heading

(01:08:58):
to Brooklyn and then you had a change of hearts
decided to stay in Orlando, and I think you decided
to play one more year there and then you left.
Do you look back at that and wonder what would
have happened had you left at that time instead of
staying in Orlando one year? Well, well, um, for a
lot of people don't really know what really happened. But

(01:09:21):
just we're talking to the Magic at that time. You know,
they told me that I should just go in and
finish the season out and during the summer wherever I like,
wherever I wanted to get traded to, they would trading
to that team. And you know I said, okay, well,
I definitely want to be in Brooklyn. Things didn't happen
that way. I end up having back surgery in landing

(01:09:44):
in la Um. But everything happens for a reason. You
know that that situation has made me a stronger person,
and I'm glad I had to go through it. Hey, hey, Dwight,
you just mentioned la I wanted to follow up on that.
When you left, you left like thirty million dollars on
a table or some number like that. Did you just
want to get out of la that bad? Or was

(01:10:06):
it just what made you Most players would never leave
that amount of money on the table. Well, I thought that.
You know, we had a good opportunity in Houston to win.
You know, we did make it to the Western Conference
finals one season, but that was my main thing. You know,
I feel like going to Houston, you have guy like
James Harden, we would have had opportunity to win a

(01:10:29):
championship and he got close, but we were never able
to get over the hun Dwight. I want to kind
of stay there with you in Orlando, and you know,
we see a lot of players moving on and wanting
to be you know, Jimmy Butler now once out of Minnesota,
Carmelo Anthony wanted out at Denver didn't really work out
for him basketball wise. Um, you know, Shack said he

(01:10:54):
would he wishes he had stayed in Orlando. He said
that a few years ago. I think if you would
stayed in Orlando, you would have had a statue out
in front of that arena at some point. Obviously, these
last few years haven't gone as you've liked. Do you
ever wish or ever think like man, I should have
stayed there in Orlando, not at M like I just said.

(01:11:20):
Everything happens for a reason. I have no legion to
ever hold my head down about my career, you know,
despite what people have said about me and the crazy
thing that you know people have said. But I would
never hang my head low. I think that I've had
I've been living a dream. You know. This is something

(01:11:41):
that you know, not too many people of players can't
say they've done, you know. So I'm happy with my career. Obviously,
I want to win a championship and I'm still playing,
so I have an opportunity to do that. But what
happened in Orlando happened. I would never be upset with
the team on the city. Um, but things happen. You know,

(01:12:02):
it's a business. I wish we didn't have the situation
that we had in Orland, though, but you know, as
a business, we've got to move on. Um. That's always
been my first home, so I'm very thankful to have
that opportunity to play there. But you know, other than that,
you know, I'm now one on wishing I could do

(01:12:24):
things again, regretting this that in the third I think
every situation that we have in life, this is something
that we can learn from and taking and get better.
So that's how I look at it. Are you in
Shaq feuding or is this just like you guys are
playing around or is it a real feud or what's
going on between you and Shaq? To be honest, it's

(01:12:46):
I have no clue. You know, I was sitting at home,
I actually about to get on a plane to come
up to DC, and I look under one of his
posts and he posted a video of me getting roasted
on Wild and Out. You know why he did it
didn't concern him, but he posted it. And you know,

(01:13:10):
for me, I was just like, oh, you want to roast?
I mean, I think we can set up a roasting
battle between myself and you, and I think that would
be fun. But you know, he started trying to take
shots at you know the fact that I'm not on
his low because he won the championship. Um, but I
have no I have no be for him. That's no

(01:13:31):
need to He's one of the pioneers of my position,
A lot of this in my as a player. I
just called that, you know, it's no need to take shots.
You know, somebody that's way younger than you, I think
that's shoulde But why have you ever had what is
your relationship with Shaq been in the past, Like, have

(01:13:52):
you ever had a close relationship or spending a lot
of a significant amount of time with him? Man of God?
You know, um, I think he believes that I stole
the nickname. I wanted to be just like him, which
somebody that player wanted to be like me. I'd be happy,

(01:14:14):
you know, because that's what we all wanted, just followers
and people to grow up and say, man, I want
to be just like you. I think that's the best
compliment somebody could ever give you. But I think about
people calling me Superman, and he played for a couple
of the same teams. You know, he feels like I'm
trying to be him and which is not the case.

(01:14:35):
But I've never had an issue in him. I've tried
to ask him he has any issue or anything like that.
But you know, like I said, from a personal standpoint,
I have no problems in check. The Lebron made his
way out to Los Angeles to play with the Lakers.
You think that's a good move. You know, obviously he's
got to get through the Warriors out west. Is that

(01:14:57):
a good move for Lebron or or it's a questionable move.
I mean, well, I think Lebron right now in his career,
he's just playing to and really enjoyed his games the
best he can. His kids are going up getting older,
and I think LA is a good spot for him.

(01:15:18):
And all the business that he asked on the court,
He's going to always take care of business and when
he has an opportunity to mold a lot of young
players to be superstar players in his league, and he
does to aedibility, So I think he made a great choice. Obviously,

(01:15:38):
if you're a fan of Cleveland, you know you're gonna
be upset with his decision. But at the end of
the day, we all have to do what's best for
ourselves and our families and our future, and I think
that's what he's done. The White I think people would
be surprised when they really look at your numbers last
year in Charlotte. Sixteen point six points, twelve and a

(01:16:00):
half rebounds a game on fifty five shooting, and yet
you get traded from Charlotte to Brooklyn. Brooklyn waves you
you didn't make the All Star team. Those are some
really great numbers. Do you ever look at like and
feel underappreciated, like what do people want me to do?
I mean, those are some really some all star caliber numbers,

(01:16:22):
and yet you didn't get considered from the team. Do
you ever feel underappreciated? Um, you know I have in
the past, you know, but this year I can't worry
about what people think to say about me. I'm just
gonna live and play if that's the way I know

(01:16:42):
how to play, how fun and enjoy this ride my
fifteen season. I still have a lot of dominant years
left in me. You know. I think it's always about
the situation and the opportunity that you have with a team.
And I think I've I've blended in a really good
spot where, you know, my game improve but also have

(01:17:06):
an opportunity to sip Pete four championships. So I think
I'm in the right place for the right time of
my career. All right, Dwight Man, we appreciate the time,
and look, I think it'd be great for the league
if you guys in Washington really can become an elite team.
So hopefully it happens for you. Man, thanks for joining

(01:17:28):
the Eye couple. Let's sir, thank you for having me
appreciate it. Good stuff by Dwight all I have to
say is the folks in Vegas got it right. I'll
explain next. It's the Eye Couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific. It's the Eye Couple of Chris

(01:17:49):
Brusard and Rob Parker. And Rob, we would all like
to find a fix for our golf games. But thankfully,
even if you can't fix that, you can find a
fix for your check engine light at auto Zone. The
free Auto Zone Fixed Finder tool will find the likely issue,
saving you money down the road. Get in the zone.

(01:18:09):
Auto Zone. And speaking of being in the zone, there
is nobody in the NFL who has been in the
type of zone that Patrick Mahomes is in right now.
He's a weapon. He is leading the NFL in passer
rating by a mile. He's got thirteen touchdowns, zero interceptions, obviously,

(01:18:34):
the Kansas City Chiefs three and oh they're just scoring
points at a ridiculous rate. And he is the front
runner according to Vegas for the MVP Award this season.
And you know what, I say, they got it right.
He should be the front runner, Prisoner of the moment,
Prisoner of the moment. Come on, now, you know this

(01:19:00):
point is that the thirteen touchdowns and no interceptions, he
can only go to the other way. Right from the
start of you would think he's going to come back
to Earth. What back to Earth might be? Forty seven
tds this year are forty tds? Okay, I believe it
interceptions or something. What have you seen to not like

(01:19:22):
in Patrick Mahons, who's your favorite? Nothing? I'm just saying, Uh,
Aaron Rodgers could could wind up having a He's off
to a good start, I mean, not good start, but
I'm just saying. I know the injury is a problem
and that's why he hadn't played as well, but he
hasn't been close. What about Carson Wentz, He just played
his first game. This guy was the MVP a year

(01:19:44):
ago before he got injured. And even after the injury,
Chris we missed the last two and a half games
or two and a quarter games, he still had more
touchdowns than Tom Brady and less interceptions and he didn't
get the MVP. Carson Wentz he well, you he went
to the lifetime The only reason he didn't get the
MVP last year, No drum roll, no one. I went around,

(01:20:05):
went some lifetime the Crickets. The only reason Wins didn't
get the MVPs because he missed three games. Right, well,
he's already missed two this year and his third game
where his first game back. They won. But he wasn't tremendous,
and I get it. I understand why coming off an
injury he had a touchdown. But I'm just saying that's

(01:20:28):
going to factor in if Mahomes is great for the
whole season. I mean, I don't say. I'm not saying
he didn't have a bad game here there, but he
played sixteen games and is pretty much great throughout the season.
He's gonna have an advantage over your boy Wins. Yeah,
but it's not. It's not always remember how you start,
it's how you finish. And that's what I'm saying is

(01:20:51):
people are expecting for Patrick to be, uh, this perfect
or this good. So when he starts stony interceptions but
things don't go right, it'll take it that way way down,
is what I'm saying. They'll go, Okay, he's a rookie,
they got tape on him. Now they're doing different things
I'm not. I'm not doubting what he's done. It's been

(01:21:12):
unbelievable because he's not playing well for and this is
second year he's not playing well for us. He's blowing
the doors off thirteen touchdowns, no interceptions. I'm just saying
he has more of a chance of it going the
other way where he plays well, but not at this level,
whereas Aaron Rodgers and Carson Wentz can go, can only

(01:21:32):
go up the other way. So and people would look
at it. I would. I mean, I think any human
being expects a decline by Mahomes, but I'm not expecting
him to go in the tank. That's the thing is
he has a head start. I mean, he's got to
have a bad game here or there you would expect, right,
but he's got such a hand start that I think

(01:21:52):
he's got to look It is early, but Carson Wentz
was second year last year, Mahomes second year this year,
and so I think he's got a great shot. It's
more idd couple coming up next, Yes we can. It
is Chris Brussard and Rob Parker. You can follow us

Rob in Pittsburgh, they've got some problems. I mean, they
did get their first win of the season this week,

(01:22:35):
but still no Leaveon Bell. And former Steelers player James
Harrison had an interesting suggestion for what he thinks Leveon
Bell should do. He thinks he should show up, practice hard,
play well in practice, show that he's ready to go,
and then the day before the game Saturday, come up

(01:22:58):
with a fake injury so he can't play on Sundays.
I didn't think that was the right approach, and I
don't think you did either. No, come on, you can't
do that. And then if other teams find out that
you're faking it, you're jaking it, whatever you want to
call it. Who would want a guy like that on
a team. You cannot do that. Once you tear down

(01:23:19):
your integrity and people don't believe in and you're gonna
fake an injury and you and all that, I think
that you're cooked. I think people would say we don't
want that guy. Now when you're talking about a team,
we don't know. Now, we can't trust you. And the
one thing you should never lie about because we can't
judge if someone Chris is hurt or sick, right, we

(01:23:42):
don't know what their threshold of pain. I've always told people.
I remember when Jay Cutler got hurt in that NFL
AFCN NFC championship game. Do you remember, and everybody was
ripping him from their couch talking about how bad he
was and get back in there and play and all that,
and he was heard, he was heard. He wound up
a think hevin surgery in the off season. But the

(01:24:04):
point is you don't know what his threshold of pain.
So once you start messing with that and manipulating it
and doing it and lying about it, I think people
they forget about you. And this also could be something
that would spread to other players. You know, we've seen
it before in the NBA when Lebron James decided to
leave Cleveland and former super team in Miami. That's become

(01:24:27):
all the rage now, you know. And some players forced
themselves out of their current situations. Carmelo Anthony forced himself
out of Denver to New York, Chris Paul forced his
way out of New Orleans. Dwight Howard we just had
on last hour, forced his way out of Orlando. I mean,
it became a trend, and you would hate to see
players faking injuries not to play. And so I'm with

(01:24:52):
you on this, and I look, I get to some
degree where Harrison's coming from in terms of, you know,
Levian Bell probably feels the Steelers are doing me dirty.
You know, I deserve this money. I'm the best running
back or one of them certainly in the NFL, and
they don't want to pay me what I'm worth. So
I'm gonna do dirty with them. But as you said,

(01:25:13):
it's just not the right way to go, because you
don't want a reputation as a lowdown guy with no character. Because,
as you said, if I'm the next team and you
want me to give you fifty sixty million dollars in
guarantee money, you want me to pay you a contract
eighty ninety million dollars, then I gotta be at least

(01:25:36):
somewhat convinced that you're a high character player and at
least that you're gonna put your teammates and the game first,
and this would just scream that he doesn't do that, absolutely,
and it would only hurt him more than it would
help him. It would absolutely hurt him. And I just
don't think you could be dishonest in that and mess

(01:25:57):
up your name, because I think another team would just
be like, no way, no, how am I opening up
my vault for a guy can't trust when it comes
to health. We had Jared Bell NFL colonists for USA
Today on earlier in the show, and we asked him
about the Levian Bell trade situation. We know now the
Steelers are reportedly listening to offers from other teams, and

(01:26:21):
Jared brought up something that I don't know that a
lot of people have thought about, like, even if Levian
is traded, he still will be in the same situation
he's in now. Like the reason he's not in Pittsburgh
right now is because he wants to reduce the risk
of getting hurt, right, right, He doesn't want to play

(01:26:41):
more than the six games that he has to play
to get you know, credit for this season, or at
least show up for the team, right, And I'm there
for those six games, right so that he could get
his status, you know, let's say he was traded to
the Jets or the Browns just for argument's sake, is
he going to all of a sudden feel like, you

(01:27:03):
know what, I can play ten games and not risk
getting hurt. Like in his mind, he's still gonna be
thinking I may be risking injury and getting of getting
hurt and ruining my free agents now the summer, you
know what I mean. Yeah, But the difference is, it's
just like what happened with the Raiders and Khalil Mack.

(01:27:23):
When when the Bears traded for him, What's what's the deal? Right?
They signed him to the big deal. So if you're
the Jets and you go get Leveon Bell, it's with
the contract. You know, they signed him immediate immediately. Heat
have to be with he have to become Rob g
We have to become a free agent. No, if they
if they traded him, they would think they trade for
him play out the season. No, he still would become

(01:27:45):
a free agent. And now they could they could be like, look,
we're gonna pay you, We're gonna make you this offer,
but you would run the risk of him, you know,
being able to walk as a free agent. I believe
Rob g yes, correct. Once they trade him, then they
would have his right and he would be a free
agent again. So the trade would be anticipating that they
would sign him to a bigger deal like they did,

(01:28:05):
like they did with the Bears. Exactly. No, they would
sign him to a deal that was at a different
point of the sea. It's a different situation contractually, I believe,
Like I don't remember Khalil Mat Khalil mac was a
free agent, but were I he was under contract, Chris,

(01:28:28):
And I'm telling you what was it? What would would
Levian be able to get a deal right away? I
don't think he could get a deal right away. Why
can't he? He could get it. You could get a
new deal with the with with Pittsburgh right now. That's
what he wants. So Pittsburgh could could tear up the
contract and give him a new deal. Christian could give
him a new deal at any time. Can't They can't?

(01:28:49):
And what is it they can't do? There's something they
can't do right? They can't give him another what he
didn't sign the franchise, Yeah, they got the franchise tag.
They're waiting on that. All I'm saying, Yes, if you're
the Jet. You wouldn't trade for him unless he signs
a deal. You wouldn't make that not giving up anything avow.

(01:29:10):
That would be silly. That would be silly. So it
would have to be with a deal, the same way
the Bears did with Khalil Mack. They would get a
new deal. All right, We're coming to you live from
the Geeko Fox Radio studios. We got some great news.
There's a quick way you could save money. Switch to Geico.
Go to Geco dot com and in fifteen minutes you
could say fifteen percent or more on your car insurance.

(01:29:33):
Moving on from the Steelers and le beyond Bell, Tiger
Woods recently was asked, just last few days it came
out or came out today, he was asked about his
Mount Rushmore of golfers. Here's what Tiger said, My all
time Mount Rushmore of golf Okay, Well Jones, Necklas Me

(01:30:01):
bravo for honesty, Sam Sneak, Jack Nicholas, Bobby Jones, and
Tiger Woods. I've absolutely no problem with Tiger putting himself Chris,
that would belong there. That would be like you going
to make a play for a chick in a in
a bar or something and you go up to her

(01:30:22):
and say, you know, I'm the best in the sack.
You know, nobody's better than me. You think guys don't
do that? Do you think that would play? That doesn't play.
Guys don't do that. Have no come on, no, no,
real guys will go go bragging and telling them, telling
them what they're I think guys do that all the
time before you were married. That was your that's how

(01:30:44):
you got a chick out my style. But I'm sure
have some humility. Rappers do it all the time. Stop it.
That's a persona. I'm talking about the real, real deal.
And in the case of Tiger Woods, have some humility.
Don't tell pet yourself on the back and tell people
how great you are. Let them tell you that you're great.

(01:31:06):
And I would say, I'll give you my Mount Rushmore golf.
Of course. Uh the four people I think of course,
I'm not including myself because no one would include themselves
on that. They would say, there's another guy. He He
also thinks that he should get an Academy award as well.

(01:31:27):
Maybe one day, let's see what he does in space
jam two. Oh there you go, drum roll, Yes, let's
see what he does Wait a minute, this this just
this just came in. This just came in. Lebron James
is gonna star in the Black Pinocchio for Disney next.
That's a wine, I know, Rob Parker, I'm calling foul

(01:31:53):
because who is your favorite boxer of all time? Muhammad
Lay just like the caller did, Mohammed Ali? What is
Muhammed Ali known for? I am the greatest? It was
a persona. It was a persona. No that, hold on,
we don't know that. Yes, he said it for his
entire career. I'm the greatest. It was, And a lot

(01:32:15):
of people didn't like him before he beat Sunny Listen.
They were hoping Sunny Listening knocked Castius Clay out, but
they didn't like him for a lot of reasons. When
a guy goes around and saying I'm pretty and I'm this,
and I'm not and I'm there, that was just a
part of his act. He just right. He that was
a part of his act for his entire life. That
was a part of his act because persona, hey, Lessen,

(01:32:37):
you're you're saying that. But the fact of the matter
is he did exactly what tigers do. No, he didn't.
He said I'm He didn't even say I'm on the
Mount Rushmore of boxing. He said I'm the greatest. I'm
the greatest. It's different when people ask you to name
a group of great players and you conclude yourself. I

(01:32:59):
just think that to ask Ali. He just brought it
up himself. I'm the greatest. Y'all didn't ask, but I'm
the greatest eight seven seven. You gonna praise him. And
because it's not the same, it's totally not the same.
One was the saying because Ali rhymed about it. Ye,
he laughed when he said it, but he still said
it constantly. You know that eight seven seven ninety nine

(01:33:25):
or fix eight seven seven nine nine six six three
six nine. If you want to get in on this conversation,
do you have a problem with Tiger putting himself on
the Mount Rushmore of golf. I'm fine with TACKI hates it.
It's tacky, That's what it is. It's Did you tell
me it was tacky of Ali? Then I'll buy No.

(01:33:46):
That was just persona. That was totally different. Tyer Tyger
could have easily just said, you know what that's for
other people? What you know, name is four without his name.
Then they said, well, you're not including yourself, of course not.
That's not for me to think your periods. Well, we'll
continue this conversation with you. Next, it's the five Couple

(01:34:06):
Fix Sports Radio. I'm gonna float like a butterfly and
sting like a bee. George can't hit what his hands
can't see you now you see me? Now you don't?
He thank you will? But a no heat, won't? They
tell me George is good, but I'm twice as nice
and I'm gonna stick to his button like white. All right, Hey,
it's uh, it's free way of love, isn't that? That's

(01:34:31):
the later Theresa Franklin, Right, all right, it's the Eye Couple,
Chris Brussard and Rob Parker. We're brought to you by Granger.
Granger's got your back when it comes to the safety
and industrial supplies that help your facility keep running. Get
what you need when you need it at Granger dot com.

(01:34:53):
And Rob, I believe some callers want to weigh in
on the Tiger was uh debate? Absolutely? Only eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox is the number. Let's start
with Bobby in Ohio. You're on the odd Couple on
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Bobby, Bobby? Oh there you go? Yes,

(01:35:15):
go ahead, Bobby, go ahead? All right? So yeah, first off,
I want to say Tiger he he belongs on the
Mount Rushmore and he didn't put himself first. At least
he waited to the last five on Mount Rushmore to
put himself there. And if you were to ask Michael
Jordan's or uh, Tom Brady stay belong on the Rushmore,

(01:35:36):
absolutely you're gonna say no, they would not know that.
Tom Brady would not put his name on there. He
would not. Michael Jordan would not. Absolutely person if you
ask me whist and the D and pass for right now,
he'll tell you he's the go Tom. Is he not
gonna put himself Jordan? I think Jordan has said there's

(01:35:57):
no goat or he has he will believe in it.
Why would you say he's just like you see your point,
Robbie's being humble. We know he But here's the thing,
it's debatable. Even though you and I both think Michael
Jordan's a goat, that's debatable. I mean some people could
rightfully say Kareem abdul Jabbar. We know these millennials want

(01:36:19):
to say lebron Um. You know, you could bring up
Will Chamber. There's a lot of players you could bring up.
It's not debatable whether Tiger Woods should be on Mount Russemore,
that's not debatable. So it's a little bit different. Age seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. What about a Bryce in
Virginia Beach. You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.

(01:36:41):
What's up Bryce? Yeah? See that was a philosophizing brother, y'all. Yeah, yeah,
all right, Chris, I love you. You're wrong on this one,
and I'm gonna keep it stricklet in the ring. There
you go, not christing his head, help us out. We

(01:37:04):
go back to the source again. Two of my favorite people.
This is a true story. When Cassius Clay was growing
up and when Rocky Marciano was growing up, the only
thing they had in common was their hero, Joe Lewis.
When Muhammad Ali came across Joe Lewis in Las Vegas,
he leaned in the shape the great Joe Lewis's hand.

(01:37:27):
Joe told him, and this is a quote that has
often attributed to Muhammad Ali, Joe told him, if you
aver thought about beating me, you better wake up and apologize,
and I at least started laughing and nodding his head
like it was true. And later on, in his more
humble days, as he was older out of the ring,

(01:37:48):
that's when he said, listen, I only said I was
the greatest. I didn't say that was the best. I
could just say that when Joe Lewis never lost the
title in twelve years, there you go, the greatest, the best.
What's the difference. There's a difference. Bryce. Thanks for the call.
We appreciate the call from Bryce, but you're wrong. All right?
At you, Steve and Whichita? You're on the odd couple

(01:38:11):
on Fox Sports Radio. What's up Steve? Hey, guys, how
are you doing? Great? Great? A couple of quick things.
First of all, I'm a jack guy. I'm old enough
to be a genuine Jack guy. Okay, but I didn't
have a problem with Tigers saying that. I thought of
a couple of things. The first one was, you know,
I don't know how I don't think he would, but
I wouldn't be crazy if Jack Nicholas came up with

(01:38:33):
those same four golfers. And here's another thought. In nineteen
forty one, when they made Mount Rushmore, if they'd asked
Babe Ruth, who should be on the Mount Rushmore baseball players?
I gotta hunt the babe would have put himself on
there as well. I don't know, Steve did. Do you
believe in humility that you let other people tell you

(01:38:53):
how great you are you don't do it yourself. I
do believe that, and I was a little uncomfortable, But
it's the point. He just told the truth. Okay, that's
the thing. I mean, appreciate to call brag and boast
rob they're lying, They're they're trying to stop lying better
or whatever. It's not lying. Tiger was just being honest. Yeah.

(01:39:17):
I just I don't want him to be honest there.
I want him to be a man of humility and
a man that thinks to let other people tell you
how great you are, you don't have to do it. Hey,
Joe and Las Vegas, you're on the odd couple on
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Joe, Yo, what's up? What's up?
What's up? Guys? I want hundred percent a grade with Chris.

(01:39:37):
I feel like if anybody else said Tigers should be
on Mount Rushmore and no one would disagree, So for
him to say it I don't feel like it's that
big of a deal. I think he was right, and
I think if he wasn't somebody that should be on there,
we would laugh at it. If you know, if if
if Jordan speak said he should be on there, we
may laugh and say, well, maybe he can get better

(01:39:57):
and possibly make it there. But Tiger wasn't one hundred
would be on the Mount Rushmore. It's not that I'm
saying that he doesn't belong there. I just don't think
it's his place for him to say it. That's all, Joe.
I'm not saying he doesn't belong there. Rob. If you
ask Michael Jordan was he a great basketball player and
he said I was pretty good, that would be lying. No,

(01:40:19):
it's not lying. I said, yeah, that it would. It would.
It's just I think humility is being It's not always
downplaying who you are. It's being honest about who you
are and where you are. You know. And I'm not
against I mean, obviously I get what you're saying. Let

(01:40:41):
other people, you know, give you credit and praise you
and things like that. But Tiger was asked the question,
and I think he gave an honest answer that is obvious.
It's so obvious. We know he's definitely on the Mount Rushmore.
It's not even a discussion. If he's not on, there
is no mal Rushmore if people That's why I'm cool

(01:41:02):
with it. Yeah, people came up to you, you wouldn't
tell them, Oh, when they recognize you and say, oh,
Chris Boussard you know, the NBA insider or whatever, and
you go, yeah, I'm the best NBA guy in the country.
You wouldn't say that to anybody if they said that
to you. We never been around and I read about
all right, but you know, Tiger, I got no problem.

(01:41:24):
Can we squeeze one more? In? Yep? Tony in Silver Springs, Merlin,
it is the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio. What's up,
Tony odd couple? No, it's Tony Counts and Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Oh okay, I got you. Okay, so one you guys
real quick. You got to make an effort to get
out here. I don't don't care. I don't care how

(01:41:45):
you do it. But come, I'm a brother in a
ski town with a Yorkie named Princess. Really, I got
an eight year old son who now loves golf because
Tiger's back. I get to do a sports show here,
and he heard us. He's heard us talk about Tiger,
and he missed it because he could see it in
my eyes. People are like, are you not watching golf? Well,

(01:42:06):
I don't see Tiger. And that's that. And now he's back,
and you guys know it. That walk down eighteen, that's
a Nike commercial made. It's made. They No, there's no
doubt about it. Tony, he's great. That's not the issue
is whether or not you have some humility and let
other people tell you you're great. You guys were asked.

(01:42:29):
I know you guys are athletes. I don't care what level.
If it's cornhole or poker. If somebody tells you go
get it, you're gonna go get it. If you have teammates,
you're gonna go get it. And Tiger's out here by
himself doing his thing, and he's back, and we all
know he's back. And if he gets to sit and
say yeah, I'll put myself on that, you can't fault

(01:42:52):
him for it. Tackie, it's Tackie, Tony. I'm sorry you're
you're Tackie Tony. That's where we're going. Thanks for the
phone crying, Tony, thanks for the call. Anyone can defend
their point in a one on one argument, but only
the best can take on the entire team. My man,
Jonas Knox is about to sit in on the hot seat.
That's next, But first let's get the dav Carson for

(01:43:14):
the latest in sports. Hey guys, some NFL notes. Bills
running back LaShaun McCoy says he'll place Sandy at Green
Bay after missing time with a rib injury. Jags running
back Leonard Fournette returned to practice today after missing the
last two weeks with a hamstring injury, and Titans quarterback
Marcus Mariotto will start Week four against the Eagles, returning
from the elbow injury that caused him to miss some

(01:43:35):
time baseball action. Yankees trailing the Rays of four, three
lead for Tampa Bay top six at Tropicana. DeDeo Gregorious
has been cleared to resume baseball activities after tearing cartilage
in his right ristering Saturdays went over Baltimore. He is
a day to day and they will keep us posted
on when he will be back in the lineup. Probably

(01:43:56):
gonna miss the rest of the regular season, but likely
back for the postseason. And that's the same thing they're
saying about brave shortstop Dansby Swants, and he has a
partially torn ligament in his left hand braves right now.
Trail the Mets three nothing, New York top of the
ninth at City Field. Carlos Gonzalez with an RBI sac
fly has gotten the Rockies on the board. They lead
the Phillies one nothing top of the fourth, and they

(01:44:17):
trail the Dodgers by just a half game. In the
NL West, Brewers lead the Cardinals two one, top of
the seventh inning. And of course online car shopping can
be confusing. Not anymore a true price from true car.
Now you can know the exact price will pay for
your next car. VI is a true car to enjoy
a more confident car buying experience and a class AC group.
In Toronto, fans gave John Gibbons a standing Oh he

(01:44:39):
is not going to be returning as the Blue Jays
manager next season. Fans were very gracious to him. Blue
Jays did top the Astros three one in his final
home game there. Thank you, Dad, great job, thank you
and we are the I couple. Chris Bruce are Rob
Parker We're coming you live from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio studios. It's easy to say fifteen percent or more

(01:45:01):
on your car insurance with Geico. Go to Geico dot
com or call eight hundred nine four seven Auto. The
only horror part figuring out which way is easier. It's
time for the hot seat, Damn, son, the current temperature beyond.
Couple are making it hot in here, Damn Time to

(01:45:21):
sit your butt down in the hot seat. Yes, sir,
it is the hot seat on Fox Sports Radio the
Odd Couple of Chris we Sorry Rob Parker, where they
invite someone in the world of sports to come on
and defend their hottest takes against not just one, but
both of the Dream Team. Here the Odd Couple, and

(01:45:41):
right now joining the show, our Fox Sports Radio teammate
Jonas Knox is on the line. Jonas, how you doing?
Oh good? This is gonna be awesome, big Bigy. First
time long. I'm stepping up in weight. Jonas's right up
in weight, man. Hey, Jonas, I got some barbecue sauce
for your back. You're ready, No, I can't wait. Hey,
don't worry. Rob. I started the Tabot b downs and

(01:46:03):
now I'm gonna use your name's Giardiomi. Oh yeah, no,
I owe you man. We're gonna have lunch next week,
no doubt. Yeah. All right, now, So anyone who hasn't
heard how the hot seat works, the guy's gonna get
forty five seconds to make one of his hottest takes
that he has. Rob and Chris will get each get
forty five seconds to rebut that claim, and we'll see
who ends up winning at the end of each round.

(01:46:24):
There are three rounds here, the first one for Jonas
one of his takes. He's going to defend John Gruden. Jonas,
you got forty five seconds on the clock. Go. This
is an overreaction if I've ever heard one. We all
know that there's a grace period given to anybody. If
you go back to the gym for the first time
in a year, or you go back to work in

(01:46:46):
the first time in a couple of weeks. You're kind
of sluggish early on, right, but nobody judges you in
totality based on that small window of time that you
just came back. The idea that John grew and all
of a sudden should be judged and deemed a bad
coach when he makes his return after a decade and
plays three really tough games in really tough situations. They're

(01:47:07):
in every single one of them, and he traded Khalil
Mack is the only claim to fame if that's the case.
And you can rip Bill Belichick as well too, because
he's traded a bunch of guys. Layoff. They're not that bad.
Gruden's gonna be all right, Jonas, What are you talking about.
They're paying They're paying a John Gruden cash money, not

(01:47:29):
in foot stamps. Are you kidding me? He got one
hundred million dollar contract for a coach. They want this
guy to produce, And don't tell me it's okay to
lose the first three games and is no big deal.
I got news for you. Sports has a short menu,
doesn't have chicken wings on it. Wins and losses. That's
all that matters. And right now he's losing. And I

(01:47:52):
hate to bring up past history, but he was a
bad coach in Tampa Bay. Other than winning that Super Bowl,
he had six bad years there before they got rid
of them. So I'm not buying into that. He's been
bad for the last seventeen years if you count the
ten years absence in the booth how's that? Jonas? You
you you you're you're playing with the truth. You're fudging you,

(01:48:15):
you're trying to pull the wool over our eyes. You
said they were in every game. They gotta be by
twenty points by the Rams in their first game, and
then you throw in the khalil Mac line at the
end like that was no big deal, Like, oh, they
traded kalil Mac. That's not a big thing. This guy
is gonna be a Hall of Fame defensive pass rusher.

(01:48:35):
And then he comes out a few weeks later and says,
these guys are hard to find. You had weren't right
in the palm of your hand. What are you doing?
And like Rob said, it's been what since two thousand
and two that he won a playoff game? His last
few years in the league as a coach, weren't good.

(01:48:56):
You're drinking the kool aid, Jonas. Here's the thing, this
whole Cologne Max stuff. He wasn't gonna they weren't going
to get him a contract. So what was he supposed
to do. Was he supposed to just wait it out
and say, gosh, we really hope he shows up. What
organization Jonas has told him to pay the money. What done?
What organization gives one hundred million dollars to a coach
but you don't have any money for the player? You know?

(01:49:19):
The organization that does that is the same one that's
got overflowing toilets and a baseball diamond in the middle
of their stay. That's the same Redden. Are you related
to Gruden or something? I got news for you. If
I was, my life would look a lot different right now. Okay,
because I get some of that cash there You go
round one of the hot seat and credits to the
jones were sticking in their topic Number two got his

(01:49:41):
butt kick. Jonas wants to do. He wants to defend
or actually, excuse me, go at Clay Matthews and the
Green Bay Packers over this roughing the passer rule. Joneses,
you got forty five seconds, go for it. There's no
fan base that cries and complains more in the NFL
than the Green Bay Packers. It's unbelievable. The idea that

(01:50:02):
Clay Matthews, who's now been popped for roughing the pastor
three straight weeks, is still a victim is insane. I
get news for you. If they up the speed limit
to If they reduce the speed limit to sixty miles
an hour and you keep going seventy and you get
a ticket three straight weeks, that's a you problem. That's
no longer about them reinforcing the rules and whether or

(01:50:25):
not the rule is okay. I don't like the rules.
I think they've gone overboard, but sooner or later acknowledge
what it is and do something about it. Why can't
the Packers complain about it's affecting them? It costs them
a game? Jonas one game in the NFL could mean
the difference between making the playoffs or sitting out and
watching them on TV. That could cost guys positions on

(01:50:48):
the team, That could cost coaches their jobs. I mean,
this is no small matter. And it's not just the Packers.
I mean you have quarterbacks from other teams complaining about
these calls. Alex Smith himself has said the call was ridiculous.
How can you defend these calls the way they're being made,
There's no defense for him. Clay Matthews is absolutely right.

(01:51:11):
And when you have a player that great and that
physical saying, I don't know if the game is for
me anymore. That's the problem. Chris you're no, Chris is
really in the hot seat, because Chris, you're crazy that
nobody else in the league, nobody has three pass interference

(01:51:31):
calls in three games other than Clay Matthews. He's not
the one who's adjusted in the path and the passer.
Everybody else I think this has adjusted. No, I'm not disqualified.
Everybody else has adjusted. Accept Clay Matthews. You know what,
maybe the game isn't for him. If you can't adjust.
You know what happened. You become a dinosaur. Life, life happens.

(01:51:53):
That's what you gotta do. That's the best you got robbed. Hey,
you remember you remember the horse? Remember the worst caller tackle?
Sooner or later, Roy Williams had to just adapt right,
adapter die. And either you're gonna adapt to the rules
or you're gone. Bottom line, And nobody understands the rules,
no text book TA. The competition committee is gonna meet

(01:52:16):
and discuss this, and you're gonna see it over the
next few weeks they're gonna be calling this thing a
lot differently because Clay Matthews is absolutely correct. Clay Matthews
is on an island by hisself. He's the only one
who's doing it well. Ben Roethlisberger saying the same thing.
Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Norman, Troy Aikman, Jerry Jones,

(01:52:37):
They've all said the same thing as Clay Matthews. There
were twelve hundred players in the NFL. You name eight guys.
Stop it. That was the first and couple history where
Rob Parker changed sides in the middle of an argument. Yes, yes,
it's the hot seat. The odd couple of Fox Sports
Radio last one. This might be the hottest take of
twenty eighteen. Jonas Knox says that boneless wings still count

(01:52:59):
as chicken wings. Jonas explain, Oh yeah, and here's and
all you've got to do is attack the counter argument. No,
they're chicken McNuggets. They're chicken nuggets. That's not actually a wing. Listen,
it's the same meat, all right. We're not talking spam
deep fried in some outhouse somewhere. It's the same meat.

(01:53:19):
It's just boneless. We're not in the Dark Ages anymore.
We're not at medieval times. Don't You don't see a
cat of nine tails or battering ram to open up
the front gates of a house somewhere. Get out of
the dark ages. Don't get your hands as dirty as
you need to. You don't need the bones to prove
that you got an actual chicken ring. Go boneless. It's

(01:53:41):
the same thing. Don't listen to the contrary. It's not
a chicken wing, and it's not a chicken nugget. It's
a chicken finger. Is a fried chicken cutlet a chicken wing.
It's the same meat. It's the same, it's fried. It's
a size issue. We got a size issue here. No,
it's gotta I got to it's checked, mate. You know

(01:54:03):
that it's not chicken finger. It's a size issue here.
It's gotta be around the same size. If you're talking
about chicken like longer in length, people, we're gonna go
longer and skinnier. Okay, I got you, But it's the
sizes you and we all know we're talking about here, Jonas,
I got one question for you. If it doesn't have
any bones, how did the chicken walk? You gotta have bones,

(01:54:26):
you gotta have bones. I've never heard of that. What
are you talking about? No bones? Are you kidding me?
It's an adult chicken McNugget. That's exactly what it is.
That's what kids eat. Because you're afraid that they're gonna
choke on the bones, so you give kids chicken nuggets.
Are you kidding me? You gotta have a wing. I

(01:54:47):
wouldn't get on an airplane with no wings. You gotta
have the bones, you gotta have the structure. Man, get
out of the dark ages, Robs. What are you churning
butter in the front of your house as well? Too?
Come on, man, this isn't the olden days, all right?
Don't get your hands dirty if you don't need to.
You just bought a brand new Michael Core's white jacket

(01:55:09):
at Burlington Coach Factory for forty four cents. You don't
want to get that dirty by getting your hands all
over some wings. It's now that Thank you, Jonas. And
then you made a nice showing in your debut on
the Hot Seat. You did go oh and three. That's right.
We give you credit. You had dump shit, you were
bold and we like that. We'll have you back. Let's

see if you can get a win next time. No doubt.

(01:56:59):
and Rob Kelly Bryant, the quarterback at Clemson, has announced
that he's going to transfer because he lost his starting
job to a freshman quarterback. What do you I just
think this is such a Dabbo Sweeney's allowing Kelly Bryant
to transfer, and I think he's handling this the right way,

(01:57:22):
especially compared to the way Nick Saban is doing it
with Jalen Hurts and to Ah, I'm not even gonna
say to his last name, it's too hard to pronounce,
but too right toa is you know has that position.
And Saban won't name a starter or really you know,
he's playing Hurst just as much so he won't transfer.

(01:57:45):
I think Dabbo Sweeney's doing it the right way, letting
Kelly Bryant go ahead and try to, you know, have
a great last year in college by going elsewhere. I
wish Saban would handle it the same way. If you
don't want the kid, what do you holding onto him for?
Allow him to transfer and do his thing elsewhere. You've
made a decision you want the freshman quarterback, right, I

(01:58:07):
got no problem. Coaches bounce on kids all the time.
Chris right, So I don't have an issue. I really don't.
The kid lost his job right to a freshman. You
don't you want to sit your senior season and sit
there and watch another guy play. I'm sorry, I'm not
doing it. So the one thing, the one with probas
I disagree with brian on and is saying he doesn't

(01:58:30):
feel like he was giving a fair shot. Not I agree.
I agree. You turn it the first four games of
the season, and Trevor Lawrence is the freshman quarterback, has
just played better. It's as simple as that. I like
when Dabbo Sweeney said, look, this isn't middle school. We're
playing the best players. It was tough for him to
let Bryant go, he liked him, but it's no question

(01:58:50):
Trevor Lawrence has been better. And so I think it's
the right decision by Sweeney. And Saban just doesn't want
Hurts to transfer, and that's why he's going ahead and
still playing him. I know they got blowout, so that's
why he's getting them so easy, right right, because the
game's olders, you could do it. And the hypocrisy is
that saving of all people is saying this because we

(01:59:15):
know how I mean, he will leave a school in
a heartbeat if it's a better deal. Think in the past,
he's done it before, and I just I can't. I
can't fall to kid. People think that when you get
a scholarship it's locked in for the four years and
they're taking care. There's even they could take your scholarship
at any time if you're not playing up the part,

(01:59:36):
doing what they think that you need to do. People
don't understand that. People really don't. They're not They don't
understand that it's not the locked in stone. So why
shouldn't you be able to move on if things aren't
going your way and it's just not happening. You might
have signed there and thinking it was gonna be perfect
for you in your career and it just changed. So

(01:59:57):
let these guys be free, Let them move the way
to coaches are free to move around. Let me just
give you a little history on Nick Saban's moves. He
resigned from Michigan State to go to LSU. Then in
December two thousand and four, he told reporters he wasn't
leaving LSU. One week later, it was reported that he

(02:00:17):
had already interviewed with the Dolphins. On Christmas Day News
broke that he was going to the Dolphins. Then, in
December of two thousand and six, while with the Dolphins,
Saban said I'm not going to the to be the
Alabama coach. Two weeks later, he was introduced as the
Alabama head coach. So come on, I mean, like you said,

(02:00:41):
was good for the goose is good for the gander.
If the college coaches can leave like this, then the
players should be able to the players aren't getting paid
like the coaches. They're trying to have the best college
career they can have, so maybe they can make it
to the NFL. And I think you should give them
that chance, no doubt about it. And the new rule,
and I'm glad that you know, some of the guys

(02:01:03):
are gonna use it and move on and try to
finish and enjoy their college career somewhere else. Rob, It's
been a great show today. You took your beatings well
and I love you for that. Oh yeah. Jason Smith
and Mike Harmon next Fox Sports Radio
