Ard here is at Rob Parker f S one, so
make sure you do that. What a show we have
in store for you today, coming off an actual, a
tremendous Final four. Even though the teams that many people
picked and that many people wanted to see lost, it
(01:25):
still was a wonderful weekend, so we will certainly recap
all of that. Major League Baseball started last week with
opening Days, and Bryce Harper and some other guys are
off to some hot starts. We'll get into that. Lebron
James is officially shut down for the rest of the
NBA season, and Zion Williamson is done. Now what's next
(01:50):
the NBA? Of course, how will he fair? There's some
doubters out there, all right, So we'll do all that
we got Riche Phillips says a gas college hoop analysts
joining us in about thirty minutes. We'll also hear from
the one and only friend for Schilla. So we got
some great gas and some great conversation. So you definitely
(02:13):
want to keep it locked to the eye couple for
the next three hours and with no further ado. The
man who needs no introduction, Rob Parker, what's up? Man?
How are you hey? Doing great? How about you? Chris?
All good? I'm excellent, brother, excellent. It was a bomb
me eighty seven degrees. When I got out of your
(02:36):
class today eighty at the USC eighty seven, I was like,
is this feel good? This was crazy? Yeah? It was
so hot and let's hey, we could have walked dip
in the pool. Nah, I didn't do all that, you
know how, some of us have work, man. I had
to get in the car and come straight here. I
need a cold shower, Yes I do. But let's welcome
in the Odd Couple crew, and I'm gonna give some
(02:56):
special love to our producer, Rob G. Rob G, can
you get on the mic. He is back after Chris,
you know, a two and a half month vacation or
whatever it was to Europe, and we're happy to have
him back. Rob G. How was it? It was great,
Rob Parker. I used all your unused vacation times for
my vacation, so it was great. You were gone a
(03:18):
long time. You must have major clout. He's a big
time in the comedy. I'm not Chris Brussard, but I'm
like kind of like Chris Brussard, where if I want
to take a vacation two weeks, I don't even put
in for it. I just be like, hey, I'm not
gonna be here. Hey, I didn't know producers made more
money than the talent. But you know what sometimes to
happen was going on, Well, hey, we're glad to have
(03:39):
you back, and I'm glad you and the wife had
a great time and the family right, other family members
went as well. So good to have Rob G back
in the producers spot thanks to uh Lee and gavinul
Phil Dim while you were gone. Let's also welcome an
Alex our engineer. Um Dev Carson is our sports anchor.
Of course you'll keepers updated throughout the program. And also
(03:59):
in turn is Connecticut Connor. I renamed him. I've been
just calling him Connor, but you know what Connecticut Connor works.
So let's welcome. They're all on the other side of
the glass. Crisp bou saw it on this Monday. Let's
kick some ass. Speaking of kicking some ass, can you
say how about help? Yeah, okay, I just want to
(04:20):
make sure now I'll give your rubbing my call. He's
listening or it's in the Bible. Oh but he's I
think they're talking about a donkey though, aren't they. They are,
and that's what I'm talking about. Okay, I got you,
all right. But anyway, uh man, what a weekend for
the veterans. You know, it's all about the one and done.
(04:42):
Everybody gets excited about the one and done teams Kentucky
a bunch of freshmen year after year after year, and
they get drafted in the lottery and in the first round,
Duke bunch of freshmen. Zion Williamson is all the rage
and they neither one of those teams is. In the
(05:04):
final weekend of NCUBAA basketball, Michigan State takes down Duke,
Texas Tech takes down Gonzaga, Virginia takes down per Due,
and Auburn takes down Kentucky. So what that That that
begs the question, rob is the one and done? Like?
(05:26):
Is it worth it? Because it doesn't really bring you
the championships? See, I got a different view, and you
want to go first, well, let me give you these facts,
then you can go. And then in the eleven well
you're gonna have trouble, debate, debunky. Not in eleven years,
and I'm not. I haven't given you my perspective. I'm
(05:48):
giving you facts, all right, go ahead, that's all I'm
giving you the I'll give you the real facts. I
give you the car facts in the eleven years, I'm
just gonna ignore that one. In the eleven years since
the one n done rule was implemented, only two teams
led by freshman you know, their freshman players where their
best players have won the title. Two thy twelve Kentucky
(06:11):
led by Anthony Davis, and two thousand and fifteen Duke
led by jalil Okafor other than that, I mean, it's
been a new era where we've seen mid majors have
a shot. You know, Butler almost won a championship or
two almost did they win? No, So so it only
matters if you win. Okay, So freshman led teams are
(06:34):
two and nine about eleven years before that? What about
the eleven years before? How many freshman team uh, freshman
led team to championships eleven years before that? Probably very few,
pervis Ellison did, but he had a lot of veteran help.
I wouldn't call that a freshman led team. So who
I don't know, probably didn't happen. No, I'm I'm guessed
(06:54):
it didn't happen. So it's very rare for freshman the
league championships. So go ahead, give me your enlightened perspective.
I think this is uh, you know, googly gosh or whatever.
Because when you talk about a one and done scenario
in basketball college basketball, and let me talking about the
(07:15):
tournament and just how it's set up, Chris, anybody can
lose one game. I don't believe it has anything to
do with one and done. You can lose Michael Jordan,
I feel confident wouldn't be six and oh if he
was one and done and didn't have to do best
four out of seven. That's where we call a hypothetic. No,
I'm just saying because I mean, but we don't know.
I'm just saying because anybody, I don't care how talent
(07:37):
you are. Teams or two and nine, I don't care
how talent you are. Anybody can lose one game. Anybody,
if it's four out of seven, I would take the
one and done all day. I still think it's about talent.
If you played them seven times or three out of
five five game series, you have to win three, I
would take those guys every time. Could they get beat
one game? And my proof is all the times that
(08:01):
Michigan State without those players keep going to the final four.
But what happens when they get to the final four?
They don't want it. Never won a championship in twenty
years because you could get there with this format. You can.
But at the end of the day, it still is
about talent. It is so I get I get talent.
The talent the most talented team doesn't always I understand that,
(08:24):
but I'm telling you, I would take the talent of
these freshman guys, this whole notion to two nine. Yep,
I would take two and nine because the eleven years
before that was on eleven. So I would take the
two and nine and I would take those guys who
are one and done any day of the week. Now,
if you want to tell me that some of these
coaches and John calli Parry's a bad coach and can't
(08:45):
win and should have won some other championships, I say
he's a bad coach and didn't use the talent right
or didn't prepare them right. I would blame more in
the coach than the talent, because the talents there to win,
and it doesn't always happen. We saw UNLV, not even
with freshman but and they didn't win. Well. They want
it the first year, then they lost the night year
to Duke. Here here's the real deal. I mean, I
(09:06):
don't disagree with everything you said. If I were a
college coach and I could get the Blue Chippers, the
one and done guys, I would do it. You know,
I'm sure any coach out there, Jay Wright, he's known that.
You know, if Villanove's a great coach, won two championships
in the last few years. He does it with players
that stay three four years. If he could, I'm sure
(09:30):
he'd go after Karl Anthony Towns, you know, take a
John Wall, take a Zion Williamson and all that. So
I'm with you on that. I would always recruit the
best players. But this is not just happenstance. This is
not just oh, it's one and done. Anything can happen.
While there's some truth to that, obviously one and done
(09:51):
one game, anything can happen. You could have a bad game,
somebody can make a lucky shot against you. But this
is not what this is about. For the most part,
this is about the fact that basketball, for all, as
important as talent is chemistry, basketball IQ, trust, camaraderie, knowing
(10:14):
the coach's system like the back of your hand. That
is all a factor too. And the fact is when
you have freshmen, half of whom have their eyes on
the NBA and half of whom think they're this and there,
that they're not going to have as much of that.
(10:36):
Can I finish, chemistry, camaraderie, trust, They're not gonna have
as much of that as hire basketball IQ. As guys
that stay three and four years playing together. So what happened.
What the case is in NC DOUBLEA is the most
talented teams are all young, and the least the teams
(10:57):
that don't have as much talent have veteran experience. This
is kind of like with Team USA before we let
the pros start playing nineteen eighty eight, we finished with
the bronze medal. We had all types of future NBA player,
Stacy Augman, Hershey Hawkins, Danny Manny who was a stud
(11:17):
in college. They probably didn't take it admiral. Now they
took it seriously. They just got pounded by some veteran
players from Europe Professional teen ninety the same thing, but
it was professional. Those guys had played together front they
were professionals, but they were professional. They played together, but
(11:39):
they were professional players playing again because we were whipping
the professional players ten years before that, four years before.
But the basketball had gotten better over time in Europe,
and that you did it robbed they to go professional players,
grown men. They were grown men, professional teams. Rob stayed together.
(11:59):
They didn't just put together the most talent in the
country every blue you know, once a year and say
go out and win. They were essentially our team usay,
before we started bringing in the the pros, was essentially
like a one and done team. Get the best players,
a bunch of talent, throw them together for a few weeks,
and let's go beat the rest of the world. So
(12:20):
how come I'm not gonna how come Tom Mizzo hasn't
won a championship in twenty years? Because he because he's
that guy. No, he's that guy. I'm asking you answered
Joe question earlier. Anything can happened in the one game situation. Okay,
I mean seriously, that's it. That's how. It's how and
I'm not focused on time is old. No, I'm just
bringing gets to the final get the team. I'm just wonderous.
(12:46):
Look at the team's rosters that have won championships when
these freshman teams haven't. These have been teams led by
juniors and seniors that matters. Who was the Who was
the other than Zion? Who was the key factor? The
best player on the floor in the Michigan State game,
(13:07):
it was Cassius Winston. He played much smarter than RJ. Barrett.
R J. Barrett is gonna go much higher in the draft. RJ.
Barrett is gonna be a top three pick got more talent,
more upside, but it was clear Cashius Winston was the
smarter player, the more seasons player. The player didn't understand
this system. How come NBA basketball IQ? How come NBA
(13:28):
scouts don't want to take those guys? If you say,
if you say much talent, and I got time to
groom you on the NBA level. But if that's if that,
if that's but if that's winning basketball, then you should
want those guys. I don't understand. If you're telling me
guys you would want the guys who stayed three or
four years. Why are you drafting the kid out of
high school or kid after one year but he might
(13:52):
not help you win. You're telling me that it's automatic.
You're better that you got a chance to win if
you have that win? Did did the word automatic? Call?
But I'm saying you said you have a better shot.
Say I said that? If I didn't say, I say,
can you hold on, wait a minute, here we go,
Oh that was you, Chris all right? Two and nine?
(14:14):
I said, freshman teams and won twice. So I ain't
say it's automatic. It happens. But the fact is you
can't tell me I would shake any day an I
would too, Rob. I'm nobody's debating that. Nobody's saying that
you wouldn't want more talent. I'm giving you why why
they don't win that often, and you can't deny that.
(14:37):
But for every team, but for every example you give me,
I could give you examples of teams that stayed together.
I just gave you one. I don't have time. It's
a three hour radio shot time. We don't have time.
Twelve and two thousands. We don't have time. We don't
have enough time to do that. Didn't that just give
you time? I gave you the two times it's work
two thousand and twelve, two thousands. I asked you for
the eleven years prior. Can you give me that before
(14:58):
that probably hadn't happened. Standing where you're going with that,
I'm just asking so it's nothing new then it wasn't.
It wasn't happening then, and it happens twice. It wasn't
happening then, but it's happening twice. Wasn't happening, and then
because it happened at all, you had juniors and seniors staying,
you know, guys staying three and four years the best players,
(15:19):
or you know you had Lebron James went straight to
the pros. That was the high school. You know you
could go from high school to the pros if you're
talking about the eleven years prior and then it didn't
happen before that because you had the best juniors and
seniors buying large were still in college. It wasn't gonna
happen when Michael Jordan was a junior in college. All right,
(15:41):
let's throw it out to you. Freshman led teams have
only won two national titles in the last eleven years.
Is it time for guys like John Calipar and coach
k to stop building around one and done? Players will
continue the conversation with you next hit us up eight

a magic city Monday, yes, indeed, and so many girls
working for college and stuff, so it's a good thing.
All right, let's go Lorenzo. Look, that's right, that's the
real one. And done right there, Lorenzo and Saint Louis.
You're on the couple box boards. Radio careful, mister Parker.
(18:38):
All right, yeah, hey, this is what I think they
should do. You know what they should get these guys.
They should have three look at three options they should have.
First option would be going right to those who caple
will go right to the league, that's fine. And then
you have the second option to people who who not
quite ready but don't want to go school, they should
have something for them for the d leagues for them
(18:59):
they do now they can go and get paid one
hundred twenty five thousand, right right. And then those who
decided to go to college, then she make they should
have to sign either anywhere for two to three years.
That's all right, but that's not really what we were
talking about. But we appreciate the call. Thank you. Justin
and Washington. You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Justin? This is Joseph. Oh, Joseph. Okay, Joseph,
(19:24):
what's up? I agree with you wholeheartedly. You got to
take count whenever you can get it. There's no way
that you turned down count me because you want to
get guys that are three or four year guys. You
know it's a one game format, right. I went in
advance and you can't tell me. Tom Izzo wouldn't take
(19:44):
a Cam, Reddish wouldn't take He would take Zion. Are
you kidding? Of course he would. Tom Izzole would do anything.
He's been to the final four, what is his eight times? Now?
He wants to win. He would love to win a
championship and have that kind of player and some You know,
it's a one game format. Sometimes it works out, sometimes
it doesn't. I would think I think Calipari could do
(20:06):
a better job. Thank you. I'm with you. Talent that
fits better together, and this duke team I don't think
quite fit together offensively. But you take talent whenever you
can get it, all right, appreciate the calls with that
take you take the most talent, There's no question about it.
I'm not saying like these it's a failure, but I'm
(20:28):
just trying to explain, in my view, why you see
some of these veteran teams that aren't as talented beating
these freshmen who have way more talent. Rebel in Michigan,
you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio Rebel,
what you got, What's happening? The first time called the
Love the Show? Thank you, Bill. I agree with Chris
(20:49):
Man like talent is good, all setting done, and when
you cant a tournament from sixteen down, most of these
games ends up into a five sixteen game swinging towards
the end of the game, and how to make good
decisions that decisions is made by kids and juniors. You
gotta remember coach k did not start getting a bunch
of one and done until after he saw Colip Perry
(21:11):
winning two three years in a row. He didn't Caliperry
only one once. Get deep, yeah, get get you men,
get deep right a few times? Right? All right? So,
so Vell you said you're a spartan territory country. How
come Tom Minzel hasn't been able to win more than
one since twenty years ago? I'm just curious. Why do
you think Tom Minzel hasn't won one? Sin? What was two?
Two thousand? Rightly? Because only because ninety percent of the
(21:35):
time he gets slated as the bad coach of the
angry coach, and he put him in a horrible blacket.
That's not that's not Why did they put him in
a bracket? That that happened after the bracket stopped there.
They lost in the championship game in two thousand and
nine in North Carolina. I was at that. That was
in Downtown Final four US. I think it's like seven
or rade. That wasn't Downtown Detroit. They got smoked. North
(21:58):
Carolina had four NBA players and it's all had none. Uh,
Devin in Louisiana, you're on the your couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Devin, Hey, love your show, Thank you,
bud uh and then the eleven years before y'all forgot
about Melow. But right, that's what I think. I think. Uh,
(22:18):
I mean, it's a multiple reason, but I think it's coaching.
I'm a Michigan Wolverine fan, and I think if you
give my coach b line four or five five stars,
we're gonna get some chips. I think it goes to coaching.
That's my opinion of it. All right, appreciate the call,
Thanks Devin. All right, there are no one and done
(22:38):
players left in the final four but this, but that
doesn't mean it's lacking talent. Rasha Phillips, our college basketball guru,
joins us next and he'll explain. But first let's bring
in Deb Carson for the latest in sports. Yea, I
am fantastic. Thank you. Was the weekend good fun. Aside
from my bracket being completely obliterated, it is a fabulous
(23:00):
week I don't think you're alone or no. I did
I know I had. I had dude beating Kentucky in
the championship games. That's what I had. Amazing how often
dab and I agree? Yeah, you guys are on the
same page, and I see that's why you and Death
both only wings in a minute. But I don't remember
being in Oh yeah, we had that wing. Do you
have any final four teams left? Rout? Uh? No, I
(23:21):
don't have any left. No, I might have. Yeah, Well,
sticky with college hoops since we're talking about that. Kentucky
has offered coach John Calipari essentially a lifetime come right
in response to the recent offer he got from UCLA
six years according to The Athletic, but we will find
out that has not been confirmed. But ESPN and the
(23:43):
Athletic reporting that, of course, and other women's hoops news
women's staff at North Carolina, including Hall of Fame head
coach Sylvia Hatchell, have been placed on administrative leave pending
an investigation of that program issues raised by these student
athletes and some other folks. Oh. Yes, it is so
crazy in college spoor, it is. It is indeed. Well.
(24:04):
Moving to the NFL, Rob Parker's favorite player Tom Brady,
joined Twitter, and for his first post, he wrote, he
was retiring, but of course this is April's Fool's Day.
But I thought I was obligated to mention that because
Rob would enjoy that you already know. I was doing
the funky Chicken this afternoon until somebody said it was
April's fools exactly. Well, do you actually how many people
(24:26):
really believe nobody right? Because he's just not going anywhere?
Wow here he said he's coming back by even though
he didn't throw a touchdown and had a pick in
a fumble in the Super Bowl and not going he
said the ring right. Indeed. A lot of NFL news
that the Lions signed running back ce j Anderson, Jacksonville
signed running back Alfred Blue, Chicago resigned linebacker Aaron Lynch.
(24:48):
Cleveland traded Emmanuel Agebaut to the Chiefs for safety Eric Murray.
Duke Johnson. The Browns running back is asked to be traded.
The Jets, Texans, and Eagles all interested in his services,
and the Steelers officially released safety Morgan Burnett. Have a
lot of baseball games currently underway and a few in
the books. The ones that have gone final are the
(25:12):
Cardinals winning an extras they won in eleven innings at Pittsburgh.
The Indians held off the White Sox five to three.
Tigers currently underway in New York, Yankees with a one
nothing leader in the top of the first inning. Yankees,
making a little bit of news earlier today, they have
placed Miguel Anduhar and gian Carlos Stanton on the injured list.
Also underway second ending Brewers lead at the Red's three
(25:32):

Orioles with a four nothing lead over the Blue Jays.

(26:39):
hard part is figuring out which way is easier. We
are a privilege to bring in our next guest. He's
a college hoops analyst, the voice of Sports Talk twenty
three nineteen. However, miss Shad Phillips, what's happening? Brother? What's up?
Fellafyw y'all doing? We are doing great, man, we are
doing great. Even if we don't have any teams left
(27:01):
and our brackets in the final four, it's still good. Well,
how many of you got? I got one left? I
picked Chech to Tchech said that with your chest out
like you had about I know I was about to say,
does he have all four or something? We know you're
the college basketball expert. Oh, you got run right one.
(27:22):
I feel better, Rob? How about you? I feel much better?
All right, Rashid, Let's get to it. We were just
talking about how you know, you've seen it several years
where this talented group that's led by freshman, whether it
was Kentucky when they went into the Final four undefeated
with Karl Anthony Towns or obviously Duke this year, and
they didn't win at all. They've since the one and
(27:44):
done era started again eleven years ago, freshman led teams
have won it twice. Why do you think that's not
exactly failure, but why do you think some of these
wildly talented teams with a bunch of lottery picks as
freshman aren't winning championships more consistently. Well, you know, there's
(28:05):
a few reasons why. The first one for me, when
you bring in one and done players, which you have
to understand, is that these kids are coming in with
their own personal agendas from the beginning. So when you
mix those kids coming in with their own personal agendas
and when you have to build that continuity over time,
(28:29):
that's kind of tough to kind of put together because
you're playing against other teams that may have jeweliors and
fingers that are all bought in to the system of
the institution instead of their own personal agendas. So that's
why we haven't and we probably will never see one
and done teams just come in and win like that.
(28:49):
But on the flip side, then you explain why a
coach like tom Izzo hasn't won a championship in twenty
years where most of his guys get to stick around
and when they've matched up against those better teams in
the later rounds in the final four, they don't do
that well. So why why doesn't he win more? If
if if having a team with maybe not as talented players,
(29:10):
but more cohesive and more years together, how come how
come it's harder for him to win? Well? Sometimes sometimes
you look at you know, you look at a coach
like tom Azzo, who kind of are hes. He loves
to recruit the development guys. But if you look at
Michigan State's losses over the years, I mean they've lost
to some teams that that were junior senior related type
(29:33):
teams as well. So when you look at March it's
I mean it's one game knockout fellers. It's not like
the NBA playoffs. So we're talking about kids. So when
you come in and lay an egg, you can lose, right,
you know, So you have to take that into consideration.
But when you look at Tom Hizzo in regards to
hit longevity and what he's done, if you look at
(29:53):
his winning percentage and not just basing on he lost
in March because it's a one game knockout, then he's done.
He's done relatively well. Rashad, let me ask you this.
We of course Zion Williamson now he's out, he'll be
going to the NBA almost certainly going to be the
first pick. I don't know if you saw what Gilbert
Arenas said about Zion, but he basically poured water on
(30:16):
all the hype. Here's a quick quote. So you have
this great FEE nine player that has no true skill.
That's what he said about Zion. What are your thoughts
about what Arena said? Well, there there's a little truth
to it. I thought it was real. Yeah, I thought
it was real too, Me and Chris both. Yeah, it
was yeah, no doubt and I like and I think
he's gonna be really good. But yeah, it was some
(30:37):
truth to it. It was some truth to it. Now,
you know, like I think I think that I think
people that kind of got a little upset about it
is that there's a lot of people that don't understand
basketball language, and what Gilbert was speaking speaking there was
basketball language. He was basically saying that Zion is a
(30:58):
terrific athlete. He best seen is great that you can't
really coach, but things that you can coach, like ball handling,
fadeaway jump shot, pull up, three pointers, two dribble pull ups,
those things that that could be coached that Zion hasn't
shown us. What Zion has shown us is that he's
(31:18):
an athletic mute. That's what he's shown us. But on tape,
when you break down the tape, he's yet to hit
like consistent turnaround jump shot. The shot that he's going
to get at the NBA level, it's the different shot
that he's gotten in college. And that's obvious. Its CEI
couple of Fox Sports Radio and our guest is Richard Phillips,
(31:38):
of course college basketball analysts and voice of Sports Talk
twenty three nineteen, and if you want to reach him
on Twitter, it's at RP three natural. Here's the other thing.
So supposedly UCLA came to the table with a lot
of money and John Keller Perry's low working out a
big deal. I guess it's finalized, was going to be
finalized for him basically a lifetime track. When I look
(32:01):
at John Caliparty, for all the talent he's had, I
think his tenure as a coach has been a failure.
I mean, am I am I crazy because he's won
one championship. And to me, Richard, I'm always like this,
anybody can win one. You know, the stars aligned you
get a great player. Look at Jim Behind forty five years.
He won one championship because Carmela went off, you know
(32:21):
what I mean? One year? Yeah, No, I don't. I
don't think you're crazy. I think that there's an expectation
that you must have when you're a college coach. And
I think I think the narrative has been changed on
coach caller party when you when when people look at him,
we automatically, we in general just think that, oh, he's
just going to get NBA players and then he's going
(32:42):
to get them outright, But in all actuality, you're you're
you're a college coach, like we want you to win
while they're in college, you know. And you know, I've
seen a lot of you know with him on videos
or interviews that he always promote the kids that are
in the NBA, which is is a great tool. But
(33:03):
what should be behind them instead of kids that with
Jersey's in the NBA is more hardware that you want
in college and that and they don't have that no shot.
I'm this is our last question. That's a two partner.
I'm gonna ask you about two kids. RJ Barrett, who
will likely be a top three pick. I gotta be
honest and look, I like his talent, but the more
(33:25):
I watch him, the more I'm like, man, this dude's
got a lot to learn. Like I only see him
going left, driving left and shooting this awkward left handed
layup where he's kind of going down when he shoots,
you know what I mean. Like, that's all I've seen
him do. He's obviously not a great shooter, So tell
me about him, what you think at the next level.
And then I just want to throw out Carson Edwards,
(33:48):
the great two guard from Duke. He's only six one.
What do you see for him in the future in
the NBA? Perfect Those are great questions. First thing about RJ.
You know, Chris, you are Hooper like me, so you
kind of see the same things that I see. So
when you look at when you look at RJ. Barrett,
I call him a nose did score like, he only
can go one way. He's loose. He doesn't he doesn't
(34:10):
have the ability to wiggle. We talked about that before.
He doesn't have a wiggle in his game, so he
can't really get around defender. So he's either straight left
or he's straight right. So he struggles creating his own
shot and he struggles creating for others. So to me
his NBA comparison, he reminds me a lot of Kelly Oubrey. Obviously,
Fubray is a better perimeter player now, so I think RJ,
(34:33):
if he can improve his perimeter shooting, I think he'll
become an NBA player like that. But I don't see
superstar written on him. I see serviceable, productive player like
Kelly Oubrey, and I love Kelly. Ubred's a personal friend
of mine. To answer your second question about Carson the Atwards,
he's he's tremendous. Going into preseason all my show Sports
(34:53):
Talk twenty three nineteen, I had him ranked as my
number one point guard in the country just because his
ability lead to stream a ton of points and bunches.
He led the Big Ten in scoring last year he
did it again this year. Yes, his assist numbers isn't great,
but he reminds me a lot of you guys were
like this. He reminds me a lot of Dana Barrels.
(35:13):
Remember Dana, Yeah, good little player Daniel. He played for
the Pistons, had a couple of coffee in the Sweet
All Star once or twice in Boston, right yeah, yeah,
Like so he reminds me of Dana Barrels. A guy
that can really get going. He has He's not tall,
but he has a great bill. So I think he's durable,
and I really think an NBA team can use his services,
(35:35):
especially in a second unit type of spark plug type
of guard in the NBA. All right, Rashide, great and
you you bring the knowledge. We appreciate it. We'll talk
to you soon. Keep doing your thing, bro, I appreciate
you guys. I'll see you guys soon. Yea, all right, Rob,

You've been waiting for this segment. You know, my all weekend.
My chest is stuck out. You remember, you know we
had a big argument about about the Bryce Harper. You
(37:26):
said he's overrated and all that other stuff. You were
the only person on earth who thinks no plenty of
fans because they all go to the games in Philadelphia
and they all buy his stuff, his jersey, and you
know what Chris bus saw. This is what happened in
his first three games with the Phillies. Pitch swung hart
(37:48):
pit deep and there it is way back to waiting
for the second deck, swinging a high fly ball deep
bright field, and that one is back for cakes looking
up man ring home run by Bryce Harpryce Harper hasn't
been as many night lit up MLB America. They are
(38:09):
going crazy in Philadelphia. He is white hot instead of
starting office cold in Philadelphia and struggling. Chris. You know,
if he was old for thirteen, you'd be riding him. See,
they shouldn't have paid them, They shouldn't have paid them
three hundred and thirty million. Now what you know what
they have every one of his games are They want
to put him on national TV. Tomorrow he goes back
(38:30):
to Washington. That's a big game. They'll get big numbers
for that to see how the people in Washington treat them.
The numbers so far have been great. The attendance has
been great. I'm miss talking about the TV numbers, attend
great Jersey sales, and I want a production production. That's
what he's done since he got there, and I'll give him.
And they're three and old with with Bryce Harper? Who
(38:52):
did I vote for my preseason National League MVP? Huh?
Bryce Harker? Who did I to get to the World
Series for the National League Piladelphia? For whatever? Yes? So
I'm with you on bright and I'm a Bryce Harper fan.
But you say he is over righted? How because he's
(39:13):
hit two below two fifty two of the last three.
Were talking about the passer. Now he's raking you are
you know what he got? I got a new nickname
for Roy Parker. What's that? The jipermote the greatest prisoner
of the moment of all time? Three games, rob three games?
(39:36):
I can't even say, and you're I mean jipperms Alex,
Alex get ready? What is Christian Yellich done in his
first four games? Give me four of those home run?
Five home runs? First got five is he got five five? Right?
Four five? I think he has five and he's got
five homers. He's batting five hundred. He's killing it. Dodger.
(40:00):
The LA Dodgers have four players alone hitting two or
more homers. They got fourteen. Yeah, but the Devil's got fifteen.
I mean, don't give me this old and again. I
like Bryce, but you are going so far overboard this
m You don't love him, and that's the problem. You
should love Bryce Harper. And here's the thing, Chris, you
(40:20):
gotta think about this shill out. You're a good promote.
With the pressure of signing that big contract and in
that top he could have gone there, Brian, that kind
of benefit of the him. No, No, the pressure of
coming to Las, huge contract, coming up, coming up to
LA where they haven't made the playoffs in five years.
(40:41):
Lebron just added to the numbers. How many championships this
Harper half you didn't have any? Okay, all right, okay,
but you like Brian James. You're not giving him any
any any leeway for all the pressure you noticed player
and being a basketball player. No you, okay, let's take
away championships. You Bryce Harp ridden even in the same
(41:03):
stratus by Harper. You know, Brin Jane, last night, after
you hit that home run a second one, I needed
a cigarette app just once. I couldn't do it. You
know what the sad thing is, I believe, I know
that's that's My life is pretty sad. The jippermode. How
you like that? Wow? The gippermode? You know it's true.
(41:23):
You're not even You're not even fighting it. Nah, I'm
good because Harper's hitting. He'll get another one tomorrow, all right,

Lebron James played his last game of the season on Friday, yes,
you After that, it was announced that Lebron will be
out for the rest of the season, only six games,
(42:28):
sitting out to heal up his grown groin, which you know,
he missed seventeen games straight with the groin injury, then
another game, so eighteen total came back. Was clearly not
the Lebron James we've come to know and love. Couldn't
lead the Lakers back into the playoffs after the whole
(42:49):
day fell In didn't seem to have his explosiveness on
a consistent basis. So and then it comes out from
one of his physical therapist, how lame his names right?
She claims that he was you know, in pain, pain, pain,
to quote her directly, and that he could have been
(43:11):
out six months, but he fought back just to get
back in six weeks whatever, whatever's true, The Lakers have
said that Lebron is sitting out these last six games
to help that growing heal up and make sure he
is ready for next season. So, Rod Parker, you are
upset about that. Well, first I'm gonna say this is
(43:32):
the problem why people have an issue with Lebron. Some
people some last year when he got swept, he showed
up to the press conference with a thing on his wrist.
All my wrist was broken and I played the finals
with a broken wrist. Right, then you play all year,
you put up these numbers, Chris Boussard and Greg Jennings
(43:53):
or howling about under you and uh Chennis Sharper Howba
twenty eight seven eight eight, his great numbers, and then
his therapist comes out and says, oh, he was hurt
the whole time and he was in great pain. Dude,
you can't do that. Nobody wants to hear that. So
nobody wants to hear that. I'm sorry, I don't think
(44:14):
it was a good look. That's just a bad therapist,
because first of all, I look, as I said, I
think you'll probably agree Lebron he played fine. He put
up the numbers, but he clearly wasn't able to control
a game like he has been in the past. When
he came back, he clearly didn't play as well after
(44:35):
the injury as he did before. But I still, even
though I can give you, okay, he wasn't one hundred
percent to say he should have been out six months
and he came back in six weeks, that's hard to believe.
And that's that's kind of ridiculous. And that's my point
is that do you know what just accepted? It was
(45:00):
a bad year. You're saying it, and maybe I'm gonna
ask you the question, do you think Lebron put her
up to that? Absolutely a little man. They think he
went to his therapist, damage control whoever. His people are, his,
his minions, and they wanted to make up. They wanted
to make up the narrative. Chris. Just like, seriously, now
(45:21):
you notice the finals right last year? This fine. If
you want to put a cast on, do it after
the press conference? Why are you walking in there with that?
So everybody goes The first thing is like, Lebron, why
what's that on your wrist? Oh? You know I've been
I've been struggling through a partially broken wrist. If it
wasn't for this extra bologny meat here on the thumb,
(45:42):
my wrist would have fallen off. You know what I'm saying.
It just looks bad, Chris, do the press conference and
then you put it on, right, and then put it
on afterwards. I put it on when you get home
or you get whatever. Man, I get it. I just
hate to see that I agree, and I agreed that
it was a bad look for this physical therapist to
(46:02):
come out and put that on Instagram. But I don't
and I don't know for a fact, but I don't
think Lebron put her up to You might be right,
maybe some of his people. I said his people, not
Lebron's directly. They gotta know. They got to know better
than it just looks bad, and it does bad. But
but here's my beef, and I'm serious. Fans should call up,
(46:26):
put together a class action lawsuit against the Lakers, and
they should ask for their money back, and the Lakers
in good faith stop it. But then good faith, Chris
should we should return people. Not everybody's gonna want their
money back, because people are gonna go to the games.
But if they want your money back, but if they're right,
mind wouldn't want their money back. No, I bet you
(46:47):
there people still want to go. No, it's not here,
And here's it. I'm gonna I'm gonna give you watch
three home games right now. It doesn't matter. That's why
I bought birthday tickets for my kid for that game.
Lebron's not gonna be there. He's not hurt. I could
buy it if he was hurting. The other part. If
you go to a Broadway show Chris, and the understudy
is working tonight the night that you buy your tickets,
(47:10):
you could go back to the box office and ask
for a refund or tickets for another performance. When the
star guess whose name is on the marquee. It's the star.
I came to see Joe Blow. What the understudy's working
to night? No, I don't. I want my eight hundred
dollars tickets to go to waste with the understudy. I
should be able to get my money back. And if
(47:32):
you go back to the box office, they'll give you
a refunnel, give you tickets to another game. How many
people go to forty one Broadway shows the same show
every night? It doesn't matter. No, it doesn't matter. No,
it doesn't in your illustration, I'm in town for one night,
I want to go see a Broadway show. Or I'm
from New York and I want to go see this
(47:52):
Broadway show. Would you see people don't have season tickets
to the same Broadway show which every night. Would you
go to watch a Broadway show if the star wasn't
in it, I'm asking you, would you would so the
understood you don't care anyway. Okay, that's different. I bet
you if you asked, I bet you ask your wife,
(48:13):
she wouldn't want to go. Like with Hamilton. What was
that that guy's name? Uh, the Star of Hamilton. He
was a guy that everybody wanted to see him once
and I'm not saying people didn't go anymore. But once
he bowed out of the show, wasn't the same thing
he was the star. Okay. So should the Toronto Raptors
Kawhi leonards that out twenty two games for load management? Yes,
(48:35):
straight up? Rest? Yes they at least according to the Lakers,
Rob Lebron James is sitting out because of a growing injury.
Now it's a playable one, he could play through it,
but according to him, he's still injured. He's not injured,
he's not injured hurt, And if he was injured, that's
(48:56):
totally different. And I think everybody knows. You buy into
that when you buy tickets at your own risk. But
but people not playing, that's ridiculous. I think that home game, no,
if he was sitting out a quarter for a little
junior ticket sports birthday and Lebron's not playing. I want
to refund talking about the game. Next year, Little Junior
will learn a lesson. Life is not always fair. No,
(49:18):
little j you know what, and here we go. This
will be Little Junior and this will be the sad part.
He'll be walking out of the Staples Center with his
hands in the air because he'll feel like he got robbed. Daddy,
Why did they rob us? You know? Yeah, I know
you paid good money to come see Lebron. All I
wanted for my birthday was to seeing Lebron James. And
(49:40):
instead they the Lakers stuck a gun in our backs,
and they made us come to a game without Lebron,
and they took my dad's harder money and I'm scarred
for life. You know what, we can't go. I'm gonna
go with you know what soun as a as a
person who's raised children, life is not always Now he's
ripped me because I don't have any kids. No, I'm
(50:02):
just saying I've practiced it. Life is you're ready when
they come right? Any chance of that, I don't know.
I know you like, yeah, you know, life is not
all I got robbed. I got some good news and
I think Rob g will like this. This is some
good news for Lakers faces because I read Bill Plashki,
(50:25):
who I love you love him to Rob tremendous columnists
since the nineties, right, No, one of the best columnists
in the nation, without question. He wrote an article today
in the LA Times that said that this season with
Lebron James and Rob g Correct me if I'm using
(50:46):
the wrong word, was perhaps the most disheartening I think
it was another word, but essentially disheartening seasons in Lakers history. Wow?
Or did he Rob checked it out? He may have
even said LA sports history. It might be, but let
me let me and again, Lakers fans are going to
(51:08):
what is it? Why did you get so? Did he
use the word disheartening most disillusioning individual season in Los
Angeles sports history? I don't doubt that. I mean, it's expectation.
But now you notice Rob, You as a Laker fan,
you didn't expect him to win a championship, but you
didn't expect what happened this year? Am I right? That
(51:28):
is correct? All right? Let me let me just throw
something out. And I'm not saying that that may not
be the case, but this is what I want to
throw off all those Lakers fans who are upset, who
are angry, and you have right to me. It was
a bad season all the way around. I hope this
consoles you. I hope this makes you feel better. I
(51:49):
hope this gives you some comfort and some hope for
the future. Kareem abdul Jabbar, the Great, Kareem Abdul Jabbar,
argue Blee the goal Okay, arguably the goal all time
leading scorer in NBA history. Six championships, six MVP awards,
(52:11):
a league record. His first season with the Lakers, Smack
dab in the middle of his prime. Let me finish.
He's twenty eight years old. He's not thirty four like Lebron.
He's not in his sixteenth season like Lebron. He doesn't
make the playoffs. He comes from Milwaukee. He forces a
(52:37):
trade from the Milwaukee Bucks because he wanted to be
in Los Angeles. He's coming off an MVP season. He's upset.
He wants it a bigger city. He doesn't feel like
as the teammates in Milwaukee because they didn't make the
playoffs the year his last year there. So he comes
to LA and what does he do? He fails to
(52:58):
make the player but that doesn't make anybody feels good
about that. No, I'm saying it gives you hope. Kareem's
career with the Lakers was a resounding success. Yeah, but
the different things he was twenty eight, Lebron's an old
thirty four. There was the difference from the Western Conference,
steving you straight facts because the second year bounced in
(53:22):
the conference finals, swept in fact by Bill Walton in
the Portland Trailblazers. The third year Kareem's in LA bouncing
the first round by the Seattle Supersionics. The fourth year
he's in LA bounced in five games by Seattle in
the second round. And guess what saved Kareem's career with
(53:42):
the Lakers getting another superstar in the person. And if
you're like magic, you know you're not getting the Lakers
are trying to get. If they get after you, how
you know you're not getting Afterony Davis? How you know?
I do not believe that they will make a trade
(54:03):
with the Lakers. I think they'll take anything other than
a trade. Look, they look obviously they don't want to
deal with the Lakers if they have the choice. I'm
just telling you, if they don't get anything better. Oh yeah,
you better believe they'll deal with the Lakers. You gotta
make the best basketball decision for your team. I do
not believe, let's say Boston offers them something better or
(54:23):
even close, like maybe it's slightly less, they'll deal with Boston.
The Knicks if they were to offer zion, which I
don't think they would, they deal with the Knicks. But
if nobody else is giving them a better offer than
the Lakers, you don't think they'll take it. Those Laker
players are bad. And now you got you got the
(54:44):
questions they got question marks about brandon ingram about I mean,
you add questions about Angelo Russell physically. I'm talking about
also Lonzo Ball can't stay healthy. There's just to me,
I got issues. I would be like, no, I'm not
gonna make that move. Lonzo hasn't been able to stay healthy.
(55:04):
Is two years with the Lakers and now the same
thing that that stopped Chris Bosh's career right with the
blood clots. Now Brenda Enigmas, I'm just so different though,
because it's in the upper extremity. But I'm just saying
it's the same thing. Yeah, well, it's not quite the
same thing. It's you know, it's different than having them
in the legs, but you know, to still your blood
(55:25):
clots or dangerous. Yeah, but but again it's more dangerous
in the lags. I want to But do I want
to like take a chance? Is what I'm saying. I
think So, I mean, look, I'm not I'm not pew
polling the point because he is, you know, injured, you know,
so that's something to take into consideration. I'm just saying
that I don't think it's as bad as Chris Boshes.
(55:47):
But you know, look, we'll see. But I'm just what
I'm just trying to give you some hope Lakers fans
that look, it's not the first time a superstar came
here and initially fail to deliver. I think if he
remembers that. I think if we asked our listeners, do
they want a refund on the last three home games?
(56:07):
I bet you resounding yes they would take a refund.
Who wouldn't take a refuhy because you might want to
just go to the game. Take a refund? Why I've
seen forty of them. No, everybody, everybody not a season
everybody's not a season ticket holder because some people only
have one game a year, So let me go one game,
go see Moe Wagner and Alex Caruso and these guys.
(56:32):
So you know, of course people take a no. I
think that should the Lakers do right? Show Toronto do right?
She's saying, Antonio and sit all their players out for
we always talk about the NBA market just players, right,
So it's come see Lebron James and the Lakers. That's
false advertising. I'll stop it. It is. We'll give them
(56:55):
a chance to talk. I mean a seventy seven in Neverland.
You're living in ga gay world, La la la and whatever.

during their tax season sales event. Rob, we threw it
out to callers. That's what they think about your your idea.
That song right there that's playing for Yep, Magic City Monday, Yeah,
(58:46):
that makes me want to go to the liquor store
cash my check, kauh, I like that. I'm sorry, all right? Yes,
h H seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Should the
NBA the Lakers think that out of good faith because
the season is so bad, the Lakers should offer people
one reason? Just the Lakers. No, just because they paid
(59:07):
to see Lebron. I'm saying all the league, but especially
the Lakers cause especially because Lebron is like people go
buy tickets to see him. Not everybody, but but in
the Minnesota. How about them giving them back because they
got a bunch of young stars lived up to their
you know, promise they give tickets back to They could
give any snowflakes back if they don't trump on them.
(59:30):
All right, come on, let's do it. Let's see what
people have to say. Mark and Sacramento, you're the couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Mark? What's going on? Tim?
What's happening? Brother? Hey? No? Thank you? Mark? Come on, No,
(59:50):
it hasn't. Michael Jordan Plad played all eighty two games,
two games at forty years old. After what about him? Everything?
According to Michael Thorgy, Okay, I've been watching basketball, Michael.
You sound like you don't buy tickets you watch at home,
(01:00:13):
but you don't. But no, it's not no, it's that
no matter of Spurs right now has them duncan whatever.
And that's why they got fined two hundred and fifty
thousand by by David Stern because it's not good for
the league. That's not good. It's not good for the league.
One game they don't get fired. When was the last
time you bought tickets in Sacramento? In uh nineteen eighty eight,
stopping all those people, all those people in Milwaukee went
(01:00:40):
and they and they bought tickets to see Janis and
Lebron and neither one play. Those tickets went for five
hundred dollars. Bad seats, and those people got jipped. The
NBA should change his name from the NBA to the
NBA CF NBA National Basketball Association Consumer Fraud because that's
where we are. Jimmy in North Carolina, the couple Fox
(01:01:08):
Sports Radio, what's up, Jimmy Fellas. I want to thank
you all for playing how much sig nifty hustle rest
in people? Yes? Yes, but um going on? Yeah, I
think there should be a refund because you guys, think
about it, there's been there was people in Cleveland whenever
he was sitting down on that bitch that drove for
and I was just to see Lebron. I'm just like
they didn't come to see Kevin Love. They didn't come
(01:01:30):
to see uh, you know Green. They came to see Lebron.
James history a legend. And if he was feel that way,
he should the Raptors give twenty two games to refund.
Somebody asking the caller back to the fans. Yes, because
I mean, if you don't see Kawhi Leonard playing and
(01:01:51):
you got people just you know, investing that money, they
don't come out there for a Gerald Green or a
jeff Or Green, or they got out there to see him.
As Chris all I'm saying to you and Jimmy, thanks
for the call. Appreciate it is if you really bought
tickets for your boy and he didn't get to see Lebron,
he said, hey, it was his birthday or Christmas and
I bought these tickets. Lebron didn't play, wasn't heard. All
(01:02:14):
I want is tickets for another game next year, because
that was the purpose that I bought the tickets. That's
a great gesture by an organization. I'm not saying every
single game, and a lot of people just bought tickets
because they're not saying everyone I'm saying. I'm saying if
someone was, if someone really bought tickets for that reason,
you should honor. How they gonna prove that the honor
(01:02:34):
system the way most life is most system most life.
You'll think every person would go back and say I
was a specially not everybody. My mother, I brought my
neighbor it was his birthday, I brought mine. If that
was the case, who was in town for ten days
and this was only I mean Chris. Look, I agree, Rob.
It's a nice it's a beautiful gesture, but it's not
(01:02:55):
really business. It's not like real world stuff. That's it is.
When we go to a restaurant, is if it's somebody's birthday.
Everybody doesn't say it's not even a little cake. No,
but it's not the honor system. No, they give you
a cupcake. My point is the counter school to a
full set game ticket. Let's go to a Hey'll give
you a free meal. Terry and DC, you're on the
(01:03:16):
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio, what's happened happening? Man? Hey,
you got stack this man, this big boy, this big
boy Game's not gonna be hurt. That has gonna do
with the trophy the Lakers. No you didn't what you No? No, hey, Terry.
(01:03:44):
When they put when they advertise it says come see Lebron,
James and the Lakers. That's what it says. Okay, No didn't.
You should take the players names off of the advertisement.
Stop it and then you're baseball. And then you put
a star and save me and everybody, and then you
put a start that says subject subject to a play
or something. All right, thanks for the call, Terry. Can
(01:04:06):
we squeeze in one more? Yes? Uh? James and Texas
during the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio, what's up James? Uh? Yeah,
how are you guys doing? Um? That's the game evolves, UM,
we have to evolve with it. So UM low management
is UM the thing of of UM. Think of the future.
(01:04:28):
So as we evolve, we have to evolve for the
consumer as well. So I feel like we can go
to CBA get a system where you can get a refund,
partial refund or or tickets right for another game that
Lebron plays in. Yeah, for sure. And that's across the board,
not just for Lebron. But for everybody, let me tell you.
(01:04:48):
I went to go see that movie uh one BC
with Jack Black, Chris. Did you remember that movie? It
was god awful? It was it was awful. Okay, I'm
sitting there for ten minutes and I'm like, there's no
way I'm gonna watch this. I get up, I go
to the box office. What do you think? I say,
you want to refund? And what they do? They gave
(01:05:09):
me my money back. You were there for ten minutes,
but I might pay. They could have said, no, you
paid for the ticket. They could have. But maybe if
a player a fan leaves, If a fan went to
the box office at the Lakers game and said, oh,
Lebron's not playing, it's ten minutes in, and said I
want my money back, maybe they would do it. I
(01:05:30):
don't know. I get what you're saying, but it happens
in a lot of other businesses. Because to see what
I think would be good, I here's what I wish,
because I'm tired of hearing I agree, like I don't
like the idea of sitting players for her. I don't
mind this at the end six games left, I'm not
tripping over that with Lebron, but and you know, and
and and to be honest, when he was going to
(01:05:52):
the playoffs in Cleveland a lot of years, you know
he would rest a few games at the end. But
a lot of players, right, but it's you know they
would do that. I don't have a problem with that.
But my feeling and I think you would agree, Rob.
Look if a guy like Kawhi Leonard, and if all
these players feel like, you know, I can't play eighty
two games, I need to rest my body. Coaches feel
(01:06:13):
like that, all the analytics are telling them that, then
you know what, cut the season. Make it like sixty
five games. If you can't play eighty two games, then
make it a playable number. All you can do play
every game. They won't do it because they want the money,
don't pay that. But I wish Rod take the money
from that paycheck and give refunds to people who request
(01:06:35):
them from that player who didn't play. Take away Lebron's
game check and use that money for refunds he didn't play.
If they did something like like again, I'm not again Lebron.
I do think it's sitting in because of the growing
even though it's playable. But I just think I'm tired
of this low management. You know, if you can't, if
eighty two games is too hard on the body, then
(01:06:56):
sit sit, you know, cut the ski season, the sixty
two games or something like that. All right, Rob Parker
has a bone to pick. Surprise surprise with John Calipari.
I thought this was gonna say time is all right
Now I got an issue with Tom all right, that's next.
It's one one championship in twenty years. That's when let's
get the damn Carson for the latest things. Guys, while
(01:07:20):
they're saying it is a done deal, Kentucky spokesperson confirming
that hoops coach John Calipari has agreed to a long
term extension to stay with the Wildcats. The Athletics says
the essentially lifetime contract came in response to UCLA's recent
six year offer to Calipari. NBA Grizzlies announced that center
Jonas Valenschunas is going to be out for the rest
(01:07:41):
of the season after suffering a springed ankles Sunday against
the Clippers. Currently underway, Blake Griffin out with a sorene
for Detroit Pistons or at the Pacers Indiana right now
with a seventy four seventy two lead with four to
go in the third quarter. Celtics with a fifty seven
thirty eight home lead over the Heat a minute to
go in the second, four to go second quarter at Brooklyn,
Bucks lead the Nets forty seven forty three. And by
(01:08:03):
the way, Yannisanda to Kumbo is playing tonight. He was
dealing with the ankle issue, but he is playing tonight
and the Magic or at Toronto Raptors up fifty six
fifty at late in the second quarter, Brett gardner solo
shot just made it a three one lead for the Yankees.
They are up three one over the Tigers. Currently in
the top of the seventh inning, Brewers lead at Cincinnati
(01:08:24):
three nothing, bottom five, Top four. It's a five nothing
home lead for the Braves over the Cubs. Bottom five.
In Toronto, Orioles with a five nothing lead at the
Blue Jays, and the Rays have a three nothing home
lead over the Rockies in the top of the six.
Do have two finals from earlier today. Mike Clevenger, the
starter for Cleveland, struck out twelve batters and seven shutout innings.
Indians beat the White Sox five to three and in
(01:08:46):
eleven innings, Cardinals outlasted the Pirates six to five, scoring
the winning run on a past ball. We will be
back with the odd couple and ten seconds. But first
award from Farmers at Farmers Insurance. We know a roof
can withstand a lot, one exception being an airborne car.
I've seen it, covered it. Talk to Farmers. We are
(01:09:08):
underwritten my Farmers Struck Fire Insurance Exchange cent affiliate's products
unavailable in every state. And just a quick note from
the likely short lived Alliance of American Football. The owner
of the league, Tom Dundon, says a decision on whether
to shut it down could come as early as tomorrow
or within the next few days. Tell finally stick a
fork in it. What kind of fan? What kind of
crowds are they drawing. I don't think they're drawing great crowds.
(01:09:31):
I'll look the numbers up and see what I can
find outship, but usually you know, there was a lot
of buzz when it was announced because this appeared to
be like a scoop in you know, they were swooping
in to start the league a year ahead of the
new XFL, and people were excited about it. But I
don't know if people were just fatigued from regular NFL
football or just figured they were going to get lesser quality,
So who cares after a foul didn't get behind. Well,
(01:09:54):
the NFL and the NFL Players Association haven't been working out.
I think the other league, the Alliance, was hoping that
there was going to be a developmental league agreement with
the new with the NFL. Well, you need to have
that in place before you start the league. Come on exactly,
and then you want the players to value out. No, no,
and the league if you want to make it a
(01:10:14):
minor league, have the league, so y'all don't look at
the players, yeah, and get a contract with them and
set it up. You know, have have more lead time,
so you've got time to get great players. A great
farm team, if you will, are farms. They washed and
now they're gonna be done. Yeah right, all right, deb
thank you. Bet. It is the I Couple. I'm Chris,
he is Rob and we are brought to you by Geico.
(01:10:36):
We're coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio Studios. It's easy to say fifteen percent or more
in your carent shooters with Geico. Go to Geico dot
com or call eight hundred and nine four seven auto.
The only hard party is figuring out which way is easier.
And Rob, I'm just gonna set it out, deb set
it out on a platter for you. I don't have to.
John Calipari has a lifetime deal with Kentucky. Your thoughts,
(01:11:00):
I think it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
From the standpoint of his tenure at Kentucky has been
a disaster. I mean, I get it. You won a
national championship. Where was Tubby Smith's lifetime contract? You know what, Chris,
he won a championship at Kentucky two. He won one
(01:11:20):
without those great players that calip Parry has no what
I'm saying, Like all of these great players that Calip
Parry's had, where's his lifetime deal? They couldn't wait to
run Tubby Smith out of Kentucky. That's all I'm saying.
He has done nothing to earn it, other than someone
else was willing to offer him a deal. U c
l A. I get it, but my god, it's been
(01:11:45):
a failure in Kentucky. I don't care you Wildcats, they fans,
they know it. All of these great players have come
through and one national championship terrible. John calip Parry doesn't
deserve a lifetime country. I don't even know what the
money is. I'm sure it's obscene. Well, UCLA offered six years,
(01:12:06):
forty eight million. I look, I do agree with you
to some of what you said. I do think Calipari,
you can definitely look critically at him with all the
talent he's had John Wall, Derek Row, which we don't
have all days, right, he should have more than one championship. However,
(01:12:30):
and and I agree with you wholeheartedly on Tubby Smith.
They ran him out of the Christian Right and Tubby
Tubby won a championship. They didn't lose anything really when
Patino left and Tubby took over, and he was doing
a great job. However, I do I would definitely not
call Calipari's time at Kentucky a disaster. I think that's
(01:12:56):
way off. I think I totally call it a failure
at either at Kentucky. Like you said, he's won one
national championship, but national championships are very hard to come
by in college basketball. Time is Old viewed as one
of the top coaches. As you have said, one championship
in the last it was twenty years ago. Yeah, but
(01:13:17):
but if you want to be one of the elite ones,
you gotta be better than that, and the players than that,
other than Jay Wright and Mike Showski. Jay, right, there's
a I would rather have Jay Wright that Kentucky. Okay,
but that's two people. All I'm saying, Caliperry, Look, let's
finish rob that. See, that's just ridiculous. It has not
(01:13:38):
been a disaster. It has not been a failure. Let
me just give you a few facts, all right, for
the three years four. These are a few facts. And
I'm with you that I think Kyle's a little overrated,
and I think you can blame him for not I
certainly think you can blame him for not winning that championship.
And that would have been Memphis when Derek Rose was there,
(01:14:00):
you know, and they didn't foul you know, Kansas and
Mario Chalmers hits that three, you know. So yeah, I
think coaching, yeah, I think some of his game, his
game coaching leaves a lot to be desired. However, the
recruiting is tremendous, tremendous. What you want in college basketball
(01:14:20):
is to be one of the handful of teams that
are at the top of the charts every single year,
he says he's been at Kentucky, his team has been
ranked number one six times. That's in the twelve years
before that they were ranked number one one. Yeah, but
they won the same amount of championship. Yeah. But but
(01:14:42):
I'm saying it's not in college. But you would rip
Jim beeheid who And I don't want to talk about
Bobby Knights, all the mess he did, you know, the
things he did wrong, but he won three championships in
how many years in Indiana and he was a great
cup Like it's it's one and done. You said it earlier.
(01:15:05):
It's a one and done format. Anything can happen. The
best team doesn't always win. But Kentucky's program is undoubtedly
one of a handful of the top programs in the
country since Calipari has been there. But you till he
get the best players. They're constantly ranked number one, whether
they finished with a championship or not, that's worth something.
(01:15:28):
That's all I'm saying. To say he's a disaster is
absolutely it's been a disaster from the standpoint of look
at what the type of players they've had. They expected this,
They expected more than one measily chimpsually not. They're giving
him a lifetime deal because they do this all the time.
They gave Charlie Weiss that Notre Dame a big contract
(01:15:49):
off of one season two. This is where I'm just saying,
been there since twenty point? Is that team is university. No,
it's been a decade of failure at Kentucky, that's what
it did arrive. But then, Hi, then let's look you you.
I won't go as far to say winning an NC
(01:16:09):
double a title is as hard as winning the World Series.
But let's just say Bryce Harper has been a failure.
Then Mike Trout has been a failure. They're not winning
totally different, Wow, because it's not the same as basketball.
It's only five players and only two really matter. That
where that only two players matter? You know that two
or three? And I know it's one and done, not
(01:16:33):
a seven game series like in baseball. Yeah, but it's
funny because other guys have one championship you just said it, Yeah,
but not many. I mean time is those are great coaches.
One we hadn't won in the last twenty years. That's
in your opinion, I mean great to me, a great coach.
He's a very good coach, very good coach. He's one
of the top coaches. And if he's great, then what's
John Wooden and coach K? And so it's Tim coach
(01:16:57):
K is on another Tom is on the same leve level.
I'm asking you it's coach K. If coach K is great,
how can Tom iszzle be great? That's what I'm asking you.
Great people use great. It's like saying Damian Lillard's great,
but he's not on the same level as Lebron Jay.
That's what I mean. I mean seriously, people use great
very uh lavishly and is one of the best coaches
(01:17:20):
in the country. How about that? That's where he hasn't
won a championship in twenty years. So if we only
judging by championships, then but it isn't only judge what
what what if it's not only what else? Is Kyli
party found that it's a combination of it. It's not
just a championship. I just think saying it's a disaster's ridiculous.
(01:17:42):
You should have more championships. I agree with it. Want
to say he's a little overrated, I'll agree with you.
They would say, I bet you, I bet you. People
from Kentucky we said it's been a disaster, but not
obviously not. I don't hear anybody yelling and screaming about
him getting this deal. Lets they are, but the columnists
at the Louisville Courier Journal one columnist, all right, I
(01:18:05):
don't think they're bothering. They're relevant, very relevant. All right.
It's the hottest radio game show in the country. Coming

For sources say everybody. Sources say, these two have been
(01:19:10):
covering sports for nearly three decades. I will say this,
Let's put the big Jay journalists to the test. Its
sources say, yes. Artist sources say, the a couple of
Fox Sports Radio. Now, gentlemen, I heard you guys had
it real easy the last two weeks. I wasn't bringing
you the tough questions, but we only prevailed. We only
(01:19:31):
got a few minutes here. So it's gonna be a
very quick addition of sources to say where I'm putting
your journalism and skills to the test to find out
which stories are true, which ones are fake. Let's get started.
Story number one, gentlemen. My sources say that an interview
resurfaced earlier this week in which Michael Jordan admitted that
he turned down a million dollar endorsement deal from Quaker
because he refused to say Beanie Weenies in a commercial.
(01:19:55):
Robin source is good. Sounds so ridiculous, U, I'm gonna
say true. Yeah, I think Jordan was very obviously very
concerned about his image, very protective of his image. I
think that's true. Oh, that is true in his own
mistake by Michael Jordan. We'll just say that story a
(01:20:16):
million dollars to I don't care. A million is a
million exactly, only thing better than one millions. Okay, all right?
Story number two Philip Rivers fathered his ninth child last
week and went viral for a few hours when it
was revealed that Philip named the kid Nicholas Niles. Rivers
like you know the Nile River, which which I've sailed on,
(01:20:39):
Chris all My source is good, Nicholas Niles, I'll say yes,
I'd say false. You sit on a throne of Oh.
Rob might actually get a victory. You see how shocked
robbed you was shot? Gosh, Rob Parker sources adr couple
(01:21:01):
Fox Sports. Do you know what? We finally have a
guy who's doing it right with the right questions. All right, guys,
my sources say that former Cowboys fullback Jay Novachick is
the co founder of the first ever seven eleven sitting
down restaurant. It's gonna open pretty soon in Dallas. Robin
versus good, Uh No, that's false. Yeah, that sounds so ridiculous.
(01:21:28):
I mean, who will want to sit down at a
seventh of the No false, you sit on a throne
of Live. I mean, seriously, that's one place I'm just
what I'm wanna sit down and not Jay nochick. But
the restaurant is real, really as it is. That's so
I should go and sit down and eat my slim
gym in the seven Elive. I mean, I will say this, Rob.
(01:21:49):
When I was in college, we used to go. It
wasn't a seven eleven, but it was the same type
of thing. We went to AMPM in connecticutt right, we
would go. I would go eat up you know, all
that food they have in there, like the chicken and fries.
Oh yeah, I would eat that stuff in college like
it was freaking ruth. Chris still can't get rid of
it all that right? Right? All right? We got thirty
seconds time for one more last one of undefeated. Boxer
(01:22:11):
got d Q last weekend after he tackled and bit
his opponent in the stomach for the tie. Chris, we sorry,
is it true or false? I'm gonna say true? True? Yes,
what it was true? Chris? Come on, man, you come right,
You're not right in the right spirit. Rob Watch it
(01:22:32):

more on your car insurance visit guy called dot com

final four is set with four teams that very few
people thought would be in the final fourst Michigan State,
Texas Tech, then Virginia and Auburn on the other side
(01:23:14):
of the bracket. And all I would say is Wall,
Hoop and Lucy because now to pick this bracket, well,
I'm anxious to hear who our next guests had in
his final four because he is one of the pre
eminent voices in college basketball. Is our former colleague over
at ESPN. He's an ESPN College Basketball analyst. Fran for Schiller. Fran,
(01:23:36):
Welcome to the high Couple. What a pleasure guys, two
of my favorites. Tickle to Beyond Beyond talking up with
you guys absolutely and Chris I covered some of the same.
I was a columnist at Newsday when Friend was a
coach in New York Saint John Yelp thirty five and
twenty four and your two seasons there. But Friend always
(01:23:56):
that he treats you friend. You know me, I'm a
friend guy. If he's right, he's no. No, he was
good to me. Now, I had that success in Manhattan,
and don't forget I left that bomb squad team with Ron,
with Ron Artest and Eric Park behind. Yes, so uh
and what might have been? But man, my wife turned
out pretty good. I'm undefeated the last there you go,
(01:24:19):
right are you? Now? Were you undefeated in your brackets?
I mean where you four? I had two of the
four guys I had. I had North Carolina I had Uh,
let's see, I gotta think about this, Virginia, Michigan State.
You have Michigan State. Wow, I did? I did you
know what? And And I'm not I'm not I'm no
(01:24:41):
nostradamus here, but I just felt and if you look
at all four teams head into Minneapolis, the one common
denominator is upper classmen, right, and uh, and you know,
I really thought as as great as I became a
Duke fan this year for the first time, just because
how much I enjoyed watching Zion play a great smile
(01:25:04):
and the Madison Avenue. You know, I was going to
make a billion dollars a kid, There's no doubt in
my mind. But I just felt like I just felt
when I saw the bracket at Michigan State's Toughness Experience,
the experience point guard. Uh, some big bodies to throw
a Zion and they would give them trouble. And I
was fortunate and uh, you know, and I had fardest
(01:25:26):
in coming out of the West. And I should have
known that because I saw this Texas Tech team a
lot this year, so it was so I was through
before and I did have Virginia. I just felt like
this was their time. And you know, I feel good
about the fact that they used the adversity of last
year's loss to UNBC guys, it turned it into a positive.
(01:25:50):
And that's because they have older guys. What brand you
you I totally agree with you on you know, the veterans,
the third and fourth year players you know, just having
a bad, big higher basketball. I Q more chemistry than
these younger talents dis freshman lanteas. But I want to
ask you for if you were still coaching at the
high D one level, would you go forward the guys
(01:26:13):
that you know are gonna stay three or four years?
Or would you look if you could get the Carl
Anthony to Zion David's designed us, would you go for them? Well,
here's the deal. There's really only two schools right now
that have made their you know, their living so to speak,
on the on the great one and Done. And we know,
you know, we know that Kansas or UCLA or somebody
(01:26:34):
else will get the casing on one and done, right,
But coach k decided to catch up with Coach Cow
and he constroll with the one and done. Uh coming
and we know the rest is history. Um, but here's
here's the problem with that. I really believe this, and
believe me, I have nothing but admiration for the job
that Cow and Cook k two every year with these
(01:26:57):
guys because they basically are coaches and jew your college
team in that they only have him for six or
seven months. But one of the points I made in
the last twenty four hours is when you're Michigan State
and you lose to Syracuse in the Sweet sixteen, or
you're in Virginia and you get embarrassed and make history
last year, or Texas Tech, who played Villanova as tough
(01:27:19):
as anybody in that Alite eight came last year, and
you got guys coming back. They're hurt, they're disappointed, and
you know a lot when it wears off. A week
or two later, they're back in the gym that lifted waits.
And I think that adversity carries over. When I saw
the Aaron Fox cry like a baby when they lost
(01:27:39):
in North Carolina two years ago, I felt bad for him,
but a lot two days later he signed with an
agent and he was out the door. So I do
think there's something to be said for having the older guys.
But no question, if you could coach Zion or call
Anthony Towns, if I had that luxury to do it,
I absolutely will do it, no doubt. Hey, So, speaking
(01:28:00):
of Zion, Gilbert Arenas Uh you know, had some pointed
words basically saying that he has no true skill. Some
of his friends just seemed like basketball talk, not really
ripping the kid. He can't play. What did you make
of those comments? Oh, I disagreed completely. Man, he was
the number one pick in the draft one I watched.
(01:28:20):
I bought my little ESPN Bustle as summer, you know,
for four ninety five a month, and they too in
the Insider, you know, and I wanted to watch those
three exhibition games that played up in Canada, and that
level of play, guys was like low Major. You know,
it would be like playing New Hampshire or you know,
l i u Let's saying robs for your geographic yes
(01:28:43):
sense so, but when I saw him, there was no
doubt in my mind that he would be the number
one pick. In fact, I'll take you back to November
sixth against Kentucky in the Champions Classic. He blocks a shot,
he dribbles it out and he throws a seventy five
bounce fast for a layup to a teammate. And I
(01:29:06):
disagree with Gilbert Arenas, Man, the NBA game is going
to come easy to him. The spacing on before is
going to be wider. He's gonna be playing with shooters.
You can't put the hands on guys. You can't put
a small guy on him because he's just gonna overwhelm them,
and eventually the jumper will come around and he'll be
you know, Draymond Green, like from The Three, And I
(01:29:27):
think he's going to be a really hard guy to guard.
I just love the kid. I loved the smile, I
love the intensity and the guy I compared him to
in November, and not as a player, but just as
a transcendent like cartoon character is Shack at LSU, you know,
because when we saw Shack, we said, you know, other
(01:29:49):
than Will Chamberlain, how could a guy be this big
and this athletic strong? And that's how I feel about Zion.
But as a different hype player, friend, my question would be,
we really, we've seen one season, not against the type
of talent he's going to see in the NBA. Most
of the guys he's playing against a fodder for him. Yeah,
And is that fair or not. I'm just I don't
(01:30:12):
think so. I don't think so. Rob. I'm telling you,
you know, I watched stray Young last year. I heard
all the doubters, you know, and he can't do this.
He doesn't play D and he still doesn't play D
by the way. But I think sometimes you'd be surprised,
and you guys, you're like me. We've been around the
game our whole lives. I think sometimes the transition for
(01:30:33):
some of these young players is actually a little easier. Uh.
He had to play on a team this year that
all don't had talent. They were they were the worst
outside shooting in Coach K's duke history, right, and so
everybody was packed in LA. I just think it's gonna
be a different ball game for him when he gets
to the NBA. I think we're going to see his
(01:30:54):
true talent. And I expected him to take the league,
buy store him and be a very good young there
from the jump. I really do. It's the eye couple.
We're joined by ESPN College Basketball analyst Fran for Schilla.
Fran his teammate RJ. Barrett probably go into top three,
maybe number two, I want to be honest, Frand the
more I watched Barrett, I get more and more questions
(01:31:17):
because I just see him going left all the time,
drive into the whole kind of bully ball, and I
don't I could see him being just a volume shooter
and you know, maybe average twenty something in the league,
but not really winning basketball. What do you think about Barrett, well,
you know, let's let's compare him to Andrew Wiggins. Okay,
(01:31:39):
let's you know, because Andrew is exactly who you said
he was. Chris volume shooter averaging twenty and willst Night.
That's not He's not the reason the t Wolves will win,
you know, not that he's not a good player. He is.
But I also think of RJ as kind of like
you remember how high everybody was on Justice Wins. Well, yeah,
(01:32:00):
as a good NBA player, But as I try to
tell my friends, there's only twenty five stars in the league,
and everybody else is either it is a role player.
I think what RJ does, and I agree with your assessment.
Chris the outside shot particularly has to get better because
that's just the way the league is right now. I
will say this about him, this kid has an extra
(01:32:23):
competitive gene that will help him. He's fearless, he's strong
and athletic. He gets to the basket all be it
almost always left no doubt about that. I think the
jump shots got to improve. I think what will help
him become an above average NBA player is that competitiveness.
But you know, I feel bad for him in assidence
(01:32:46):
that about nine months ago. He was considered the number
one pick that the NBA draft this year. I thought
that was unfair. I've watched him his whole career, and
I just think that right now we're looking at a
good NBA player and maybe an All Star sometimes, But hey,
what's wrong with that? We'd all killed k Perry, no
(01:33:06):
doubt about him. Fran Also today John Colli Parry got
tore off a lifetime contract at Kentucky. We don't know
what the money is. I guess U c l A.
What was it offered him? Forty eight forty six years,
forty eight yep, And uh, you know, and Chris and
I have a bigg argument about Kentucky and I you know,
(01:33:27):
they won a championship, but I think with all the
players that have come through there, if you're a Kentucky
Wildcott fan, you can't be that happy that they only
got one. And I always say Tubby Smith won one
championship in Kentucky and he couldn't wait to run him
out of town. And I'm just disappointed in what, uh
what he's been able to do there. He should have
(01:33:48):
won more. At my off base. Uh, you know, I
think a little bit and and here's why. Here's why,
um and I'm nobody's a bigger fan of Tubby. Nobody's
been a great ambassador for coaches and Tubby. You can
argue about John not having success like like the championships,
(01:34:09):
you know, we can argue about that he should have
more okay in this era where he's gone out and
recruited to best one and done players. Ironically enough, the
only two teams that have won championship since they changed
the ruleback at OH six was Kentucky in two twelve
and Duke and two fifteen. They've chosen to make their
(01:34:29):
bet at Kentucky with the one and done guys, and
that pretty much insures thirty plus wins a year. It
ensures almost every year sec title or close to it.
It ensures that they're going to be in the mix
to least get to a final four. And while it
didn't happen this year, I would say to Kentucky fans,
and I know they, I know many of them don't
(01:34:51):
feel this way. Most of them are behind Caw. There's
not a more perfect guy for the Kentucky job in
my opinion of do Cow because you know, in the
Commonwealth they want to love their coach, and John wants
to be loved as the three of us all though,
and he does a lot of stuff behind the scenes.
(01:35:12):
He's outgoing. He goes from corner to corner that state.
Are there people unhappy with maybe the lack of national championships? Yes,
they are, And I think I think the only thing
I would say is be careful what you wish for,
because it could end up we're doing Gilespie and so
it's hard to didn't work out, I'll get it. Yeah,
(01:35:33):
And you know, a lot I think we're Tubby where
I think Tubby, and I give Tubby credit for this um.
Tubby was not going to play the game with the
AAU guys and the agents and things of that nature.
And I'm not going to cast any aspersions on John.
All I'll say is Tubby did it a little different way.
By the way, you know who Tubby had signed before
(01:35:54):
he left to exacty to go in Minnesota. He in
signs in Michigan, but the name of Draymond. Wow, wow Wow.
He'd already signed, and then he opened up his recruitment
when Tubby left. So you know, I think John's a
good sit there, and I think if you're a Kentucky fan.
You're gonna be happy with thirty three thirty four wins
a year and did not get too greedy. Anybody can
(01:36:15):
win one. Frand, I'm sorry. No, you might be right.
You might be right, Rob, but you know Billy Glespie
and he's a friend. No, no, m you know twenty
years behind Frand. We have thirty seconds left. So who
are your picks to get to the championship game and
who you're not winning it? Man, I don't know. I
don't know about Chris. I'm just gonna take a fire
(01:36:36):
on Virginia, I really am. I just think that time
has come. But they went through last year. They dominated
college basketball this year only two losses. Three losses, two
to two to one to a really good Florida State team.
They can shoot it. Their guard play is good. DeAndre
Hunters a mid first round pick. I think they're solid.
(01:36:58):
I could see him winning it. But this will be
a great final for it, just like the regional fiend. No,
we haven't seen you in a while, but man, we'll
do it again. You call me before the draft and
I'll break it all down for you. Appreciate what you
will do that Okay, hold you guys, great to talk

(01:39:28):
Rob We've asked our NBA or college basketball analysts Fran
Fraschilla and were shod about Gilbert Arenas's comments on Zion.
Williamson come in right with Sean kind of said hey,
I'm buying into a little bit of it, and Frand
said he wasn't buying it. Fran was like, totally against it.
(01:39:51):
So let's let the listeners hear what Gilbert said and
then see what they think. All right, here's a Gilbert
Arenas on Zion. We see twenty seven and fourteen. But
how did you actually get that right? Did you post
somebody up in college? Did you? Did you sit here
with the left hand, grab it, turn and face, get
(01:40:12):
him in and dunk it. No. So when I say
you dominated, your stats are dominated. But are you at
six six power four, which you're undersized? You're two eighty five? Right,
sounds amazing, sounds sounds great, But in reality, if I say, well,
(01:40:32):
he's Westbrook's heights, but he shocks a rookie weight, Everybody's like, oh,
that's not oo, because that's what he is. You haven't
posted up at all. You didn't post up in high
school it's the lazy post up. You know you're sitting
here because before all you do just have to just
jump high, drops up and trying to dunkle anybody. So
you've never learned the skill of backing down two dribbles,
(01:40:53):
none of it. When you go to the next level,
what position do you play? So you have this great
phenom player that has no true skill. I'll tell you what,
Rob and I'm gonna let you go first. But if
Gilbert Arenas is going to be that blunt in his
basketball analysis, whether it's zionon lebron kd Staff, whoever, I
(01:41:19):
already know where you're going. He could have a nice future,
don't you think. Yeah, I think he's been doing some
sort of I don't know if it's podcast or something.
He's interested in it. Chris, he has a podcast and
and I'm with you, that's Those are the people we
want on TV, former players, not happy talk. Everybody's good
(01:41:41):
and all of this. Nobody wants to hear that. I
get it, they got the same agents or maybe they
you know what I mean, or that friendly with somebody.
Nobody wants to hear that happy talk. And who's the
biggest star on broadcast? On television. Who broadcasts NBA Charles Barkley,
he's the biggest star. Why Chris Blunt? He's blood Yeah,
(01:42:01):
and he tells what he feels, right, and that's it.
Whether guys are gonna not like him or hate him
or whatever, and that's what makes it so. I love
Gilbert Arenas at least going there and you know what,
everybody didn't have to greet, but this is his opinion.
Gilbert Arenas was a star in the NBA and played
a number of years. You know those that don't remember,
maybe some of you younger. I mean, look, he was
(01:42:22):
kind of a knucklehead, I mean more than right for
what he could play, lose his career, but he was
a great player. He was almost like he didn't and
you know he won some. I mean his teams were
in the playoffs. You know. He was kind of like
rap James Harden. Yeah, great jumper, not like overwhelmingly athletic,
(01:42:46):
but just quick step, crafty, get by you do what
he wanted. Offensive was it a bad idea to bring
a load of gun to the block of other than
that he could? He was great. God when you think about, yeah,
what could have happened? But go ahead, what do you
think of his thoughts? Yeah, I don't have a big
problem with him. I mean, I think most people you
(01:43:08):
know knows this kid as a star. But I think
he just brings up some some points because nobody's perfect.
And we know that Chris, we all, we all can
he needs a jump shot? Right? Uh? Does he really
post up? Uh? And then and then again, like I
said that, the players he's played against, most of them
aren't in this league. Right, He's a man amongst boys,
(01:43:29):
So we do have to see a little bit more
before you're ready to crown the god that. I think
that's fair. Look, obviously, and Rashad said it, and I
agree that some of this, like you said, is definitely
he gave a good basketball analysis. This wasn't just hating
on him, right, but I felt like Gilbert's analysis was
(01:43:55):
a little bit outdated. The way that the league is playing. Yeah,
the league has changed even since Gilbert left. To say,
he's a are you a six six power forward? What position? Well,
the NBA, to some degree, I mean to a good degree,
is positionless. Now what position is Draymond Green? He's a
six seven guy who can play center, you know what
(01:44:17):
I mean? He can he can play on the perimeter,
and you know, obviously he's effective. So I think that
was outdated. I think when Zion post up, and obviously
last night or this weekend, he was posting up a lot.
But you're right, Gilbert's right. He doesn't have great post moves.
He's not posting up going right, jump hook and then
(01:44:38):
he left jump hook, you know, drop step, things like that.
And when he talked about his size too, he is
on this. But here's the thing. When you watched him
posting up this weekend or throughout his college one year career,
he was posting up largely against a zone, so there
were two and three guys collapsing on him, and he
(01:44:59):
was bullying and through them. In the pros, when he
you put a small guy on him, he's gonna be
able to post him and have his way with him.
You put a bigger guy on him, he's gonna go
buy him now. And he's wear the same shoes that
Kyler Murray want world because he's probably not really six six, right,
I think he's six six. He's bigger than that. Yeah,
(01:45:21):
he's probably six six, maybe maybe most of the times,
you know what I mean, most of the time, yeah,
I view him as a new school, a new age
Charles Barkley, and I feel confidence saying he'll he'll be
like a Barkley if if not, it maybe better. But
the floor what Gilbert didn't take into account two is
the floor is so spread nowadays. How many teams put
(01:45:44):
four guys on the three point line. So if you
beat your man, your you and I talked about it,
the lead, it's easier than ever to get into the paint. Now,
oh it's ridiculous, right, So Dizon does have a quick
first step, so he will be able to beat his man,
and he can handle the ball and he'll get to
the into the paint. And then now you're finishing over
(01:46:07):
one guy. And outside of a Joy Limbiid, maybe a
Jabelle McGee here there, you know, Hassan Whiteside, he's going
to be able to finish over most players, almost all
players in the NBA because of his strength and explosion.
And Gilbert, I don't think we heard it in the clip,
but he compared him to Blake Griffin. I mean, Blake
(01:46:29):
Griffin is a bowler, like you know you ain't don't
throw up Blake Griffin like he's nothing and Zion's jump
shot is better. Even though it's not great, it's better
than Blake's was at this stage of his career. So
while I agree with some of the specific analysis that
Arenas had, I just think in today's NBA, while he
(01:46:50):
does have some things to work on, Zion's game will
translate and he's going to be a star. Yep. I
mean I think that most people feel that way. But
it'll be interesting just to see, you know, I mean,
with all the pressure, all the talk, you know, and
all that stuff. You know he's done it, but I'm
(01:47:14):
the first pick and all that. It'll just be interesting
to see how and what team because I think that
that also has something to do with it. Where you're playing,
do you know what I mean? And your teammates and
how does that work out? Sometimes guys get into bad
situations and they never get out of it. My dream scenario, right,
and and it is somewhat realistic, is that Kyrie and
(01:47:36):
Kad would go to the Knicks and then they got
the number one pick and and kept and pick Zion
and kept him. I say, you say, it's hard to
hate on getting Anthony Davis, So I'm not. I don't.
I don't agree. I wouldn't make the trade because Zion.
Another thing he showed that I think will be very
(01:47:57):
good and that separates him from some of the a
lot of the young play young stars in today's basketball world,
is he can be effective without the ball, Like he
can move without the ball. He knows how to move
without the ball, and he gets points on the break,
you know, running the floor, he could he averaged twenty
(01:48:18):
something points and ten boards off the ball. And so
if you were to play with Kyrie and KD, that
third guy needs to be able to move and be
effective without the ball in his hands. But my second
choice Rob if he can if he doesn't go to
the Knicks in that scenario. And I don't necessarily love
him in New York by himself just because you talk
(01:48:39):
about the pressure. Yeah that in the city. I mean,
he's a small town guy. At the second place I
would love him Rob is Atlanta because Trey Young is
the truth. I don't know you've been watching him the
last three month off the dude. I think Lucas gonna
be my Rookie of the Year choice because he's played
(01:49:02):
well all year, right and and he just like Trey
Luca has lifted his production too as the months have
gone on. It's not like he played well early and
then went down the lag his ball and his team's
not winning as much. But he's playing well. Um, But
Trey Young Man, Tray Young's AFG twenty and nine over
(01:49:25):
the last month and a half, two months and so,
and he's a great pass. He's not just a shooter.
People compare him the staff, which I get, but he's
also a light skin. Well yeah, that's part of it.
But also you know he shoots it from forty and
all that he don't shoot it as well. We're gonna
(01:49:46):
compare the white guys to white guys and light skin guys.
Adam Morrison. Adam Morrison was the next Larry Bird. He
was a white guy with a squagga uh scraggly mustache, right,
And I'm like that was the only I was embarrassing. Right.
But um, I think Trey Young and and Zion would
(01:50:10):
be a tremendous combination that would lead Atlanta to some
great basketball, you know, in the in the future years.
And remember they got in Atlanta. The gym is Travis Schlank.
So he wanted Trey Young because he saw a little
bit of Steph Curry and him and Zion is gonna
(01:50:31):
be better than Draymond Green. I don't think anybody questions that.
But they are similar in that, you know Draymond. You
watched him at Michigan State. I remember watching him, like, Yo,
this dude is smart. He knows how to play. He's
a great passer, he's versatile. But he was in the
podcast that too, he was in a perfect system. That
(01:50:53):
system was perfect for Draymond. Yeah, he's a great player.
I mean he but but yeah, he plays all the
way through, didn't he didn't He plays at least three.
I think he'd play at least three, Yeah, at least three.
But I could just see and I wonder what, okay,
what position is? He quick enough to be a small forward,
He's not big enough to be a power forward. But again,
kind of positionless today. But I could see, you know, Draymond.
(01:51:18):
I mean, if if Schlank is trying to do what
Golden State does, and if if they could use him
Zion like a Draymond, but he could shoot better and
it is more explosive and obviously much more of a
score that could be effective. But uh, it'll see. I
mean but like you said, I love Gilbert. I don't
agree with him for the most part, but I like
(01:51:39):
his boldness me too. All Right, more of the odd
couple coming up, but first let's get to Dev Carson
for the latest in sports. All right, Jen's NBA four
teams jockeying for the final three spots in the Eastern Conference.
Nets Pistons, Heat, and Magic Hornets are mathematically alive, but
on fumes when it's trail at Utah twenty three nineteen
at Jazz, all of the other teams in trouble as well.
(01:52:02):
The Pistons lost at Indiana one eleven, one oh two
win for the Pacers. Heat trail at Boston one one
ninety six lead for the Celtics over the Heat three
to go in the fourth. NETS trail at home to
the Bucks is a ninety three eighty nine lead for
Milwaukee over Brooklyn early fourth quarter. Magic also trailing at
Toronto a one o seven eighty eight lead for the
(01:52:22):
Raptors with five to go in the fourth quarter. And
other hoops news. Lebron James, of course done for the
NBA season. He's also not going to be playing for
Team USA in this summer's FIVA World Cup in China.
He starts production on Space Jam two, presumably healthy. Of course.
New York Times Mark Stein says USA basketball intends to
gage the interest of Zion Williamson of Duke and hoping
(01:52:45):
that he may be interested in joining the twelve man
roster for this summer tournament. No official talks, though, will
be made until closer to the draft, once Zion has
NBA representation. College Hoops News, a Kentucky spokesperson confirmed hoops
coach John Calipari as a read to a long term
extension to stay with the Wildcats. The athletic had reported
that it's essentially a lifetime contract and it came in

about Gilbert arenas is analysis of Zion Williamson. I was
(01:56:30):
trying to think of Gilbert's nickname, wasn't it ain't you
Agent Zero? I thought it was h Yeah, No, that's it.
You were trying to think of a joke related to
uh I ain't gun. But all right, let's go to zero.
What do you think about his thoughts on Zion? Let's
(01:56:51):
do it. Albert in Dallas, you're on the Odd Couple
Fox Sports Radio. Hey Alex Albert, what's up? What's up?
Our couple? Love you guys and you guys all the time. UM,
as far as his comments, um, you know, it's kind
of hard to judge right now because we haven't seen
him in the NBA yet. UM I do believe he
(01:57:11):
has skill. For him to say there's no true skill there,
it's kind of a hard point to point out because
you have to realize by him being out out of
the game from posting Tritne how his team did to
when he did come back, he's definitely a game changer,
but not to say his comments are not true because um,
the one point I will give him is that um
with his buddy Barrett, I'm helping him, um score those
(01:57:34):
um points taking the loadoff design. We haven't really seen
Zigons the number one guy because although he's making the
most impact and most um most um like notoriety, he's
not doing all the love by himself, so we won't
really see all his skills yet. So save he does
go in New York, and like I said, he's like
the number three to Kyrie Katie said, he goes there. Um,
he's still gonna developed as a player in his own skills.
(01:57:56):
But Savey is number one and it's just gonna be him.
We're gonna then those questions do come to play as
this all right, well can you do more than just
what you're currently doing? Then I think it's comments wouldn't
go into play if it if it is a good point,
there be some growing pain, no doubt about it. A
good point, he'd be good. But yeah, there'd be growing
pains for sure. Appreciate the call. What about Sam and Seattle.
(01:58:18):
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio and
the Mariners are rolling. I'm sorry, No, it's all right.
They're gonna suck any word I know. But what off
to a five and one starter? I'm sorry? Is it?
Is it? Not real? It's not real? Not real? Okay,
all right, hey, let me tell you. If you had said, like, oh,
(01:58:40):
he's gonna be like Anthony Bennett. Okay, we're talking about
some news here, he's just trying to talk some crazy
right right, that would be a hot take right there.
That's yeah, yeah, But he's not. He's not he's not talking.
I mean, he's every coach who's ever had Zion said,
here's the ball, do whatever you want, Zion, even but
(01:59:03):
Duke has said that he's playing off the ball. Well,
here's the lead. What Duke is they've made RJ the
number one ball handler? Well really, no trade. Trade brings
it up, but then he quickly hands it off to RJ.
I mean, he brings it up across the top court line.
He doesn't really start the offense. It's RJ's that's running
(01:59:24):
most of it. And the thing is is that RJ
is just a one dive guy going to a left,
doesn't do anything special. Zion is more like how Lebron
play when he was younger, where he was always passing
it to people, moving it around. I'm telling you Zion
is going to be crazy good if he puts the
effort in every summer. I have one question, yes, um,
(01:59:46):
if you guys could have a choice and you're the
Lakers GM and you get the number one pick, do
you pick Zion and trade Lebron and start pressure. I
pick Zion, but I don't trade Lebron. Not going trade Lebron.
I let Lebron mentor him and help bring him along,
(02:00:06):
help help Zion with some body language and coming to
work with a glass of wine, having a barbershop show.
I mean, that's played well played, Rod Parker. However, thanks
Sam for the call preach about think about how good
Zion could be off Lebron. I mean, why are we
entertaining this Well, I'm just saying, I mean, because they
(02:00:28):
do have a shot. I don't think they'll get it,
but they do have a shot at the number one pick.
I thought the number one pick is gonna be one
out of always going to be one of the top three.
The way they have it, one of the bottom three.
That's not the case. No, no, no, no, no. Everybody's
got a shot now. So it's not a great chance.
But you got a chance, Yes, you do, all right.
(02:00:50):
I'm not working in that hypothetical. I'm working on a
hypothetical that the Lakers won't get anybody, and that'll be
interesting to see what year two has to do. I
gif they even if they don't, and it is very
possible that they don't get some major you know, Jane
game changer joining them. I think they still make the playoffs. No,
(02:01:13):
but that's no Bill, you're going on the wow. No,
you keep saying it half the league. But my point is,
but them, that's actually a statement now because they didn't
really make a playoffs. Youd think that they're now gonna
make a playoff two years in a row with Lebron Seriously, No,
you don't. You don't believe that they didn't make it
this year. Nobody believed they wouldn't make it this year.
(02:01:34):
I believed it. No, you picked them to make the playoffs?
What did I say A three one hurt? No? When
I wouldn't picked them before the season to fish. I
was way on them about that. They weren't that as
good as I think other people thought they were. Actually,
most people thought like you, Me, Stephen A. Smith, a
(02:01:55):
few others, Shannon Sharp, a few other people were out
there with you know, skill, they they're gonna get fifty somethings.
SKIP have him being the MVP. Didn't he picked Lebron
for MVP like you. I don't know. I'm almost positive
maybe I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think he thought
they would be three. I don't think he picked fifty
wins though, And that's where I thought he was. Below
(02:02:16):
fifty wins. You had told him I didn't think Lebron
could win the MVP if they don't win fifty games, right,
because it just hasn't happened other than Westbrook since nineteen
eighty two. So h yeah, but I I you know, look,
here's the plan B. I don't know that this is
the Lakers plan B. But let's say you can't trade
(02:02:37):
for Anthony Davis. How about going out and getting DeMarcus
Cousins for one year. Why would he sign a one
year deal if he's not gonna he might sign a
one year deal with somebody because one year somebody might
give him big money one year off the Achilles. I
don't know how much teams are gonna be willing to
give him a long term deal. It's not a long term,
(02:02:58):
but more than so. Let's say they give him one year.
I wouldn't sign one year. You wouldn't sign one year
twenty million? No, I want to like a lot of people,
would I think he would if I would take a
three year deal for a bad from on it from
a bad team it. I don't see that three year
deal for thirty million or a one year deal for
twenty million about. I think he takes the one year
(02:03:20):
twenty What about three for sixty? I don't see nobody
giving him three for sixty, Okay, I mean if somebody
discount king. I mean, you always want to take this.
Talking to people around it left somebody might do it
only takes one That's what I'm saying. Feeling, But the
feeling is he's on his best behavior. Of course, he's
(02:03:40):
in Golden State and he's not playing major you know,
huge minutes like he would for another team. So I
don't know if anybody they might want to see him
for another year somewhere else, but we'll see. It's the
I couple of Fox Sports Radio, Christ and Rob. Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
