Speaker 1 (00:00):
Big news for stunts, leave the fitters alone. Coogler draws sinners,
inspiration from a puss threedle juice, and the script ain't
done yet. All of that and so much more, But
first news, Dupe, I would like to apologize to the

(00:21):
listeners very quickly. Matt could not be here today, so
when his place is Nick Fryer.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
You're apologizing to the listeners. You just had me on
recently to fill in for.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Him, and you gave some great information. You gave some
great information, but I want to get out ahead of it,
just in case you don't bring your a game this time,
which has happened in the past.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
You know, I will say the first thing you said
to me before we got on was calm down, So everybody,
I'm gonna be really low energy this.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
You jumped on this stream ahead of time, like I'm
righty to talk right now. I just saw the Lobo leagues.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I was tardy to the Mac and Goo party, and
I asked you how you were doing. I mean, God
forbid it. Never again am I gonna ask.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
You how You're always assume the answer is tired. There's
dope over at the Academy Awards. They are officially adding
a category best Stunts. And I believe this is right
off the back of The fall Guy, the Ryan Gosling
comedy that came out last year. The films, so it

(01:20):
begins with the films released in twenty twenty seven, So
not this year, but the year after.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Okay, not even year after year after that.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
What year are we in right now?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Twenty twenty one?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's debata Right now, I don't know where they are
right now.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
What I'm most confused about. And I feel like best
Stunts being the category kind of like clears things up
a little bit, because I was wondering, why are you
not rewarding these stuntmen when they do such important stuff
and you know, you'll get action movies in the course
of the history of film. They've just been so important
as film has become such a massive money maker. Are
you trying to take credit away or make sure you
don't shine the light away from the big stars and

(01:56):
highlight the fact that they're not the ones doing these
amazing stunts.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
So I wasn't even thinking about that, And I'm one
hundred percent with you. This does kind of sound like
they did not want to, you know, lose the disbelief
of people watching this and be like, oh, there are
several people that work into this character.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, exactly, and it's a little disappointing. But at the
same time, like the way they're doing it now, they're
giving the stunt men and women their due, but they're
also not like we'll see how they kind of highlight it.
But it's also like best stunts, So that could be
anybody who's.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Stunt men, stunt women's stunt coordinators exactly. I'm sure that
Tom Cruise will be given some kind of like a
lifetime Achievement award. He doesn't do all of his own stunts,
but he does enough of them to, you know, Garner
praise as an actor who will stick in there until
the last possible second.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, it's a good call. I wouldn't be surprised they
even I mean, they don't do a thing where they
name awards after the people, but I wouldn't be surpribed
for him if he got it.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
I also think that so the NBA does this, I
think that every sports league should go and change all
of their awards, Yeah, like modernize it.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, well, are you saying so when you say modernizer,
are you saying like with the Cy Young Award, like
turn it into.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
What like cares about cy Young?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Wow, it's just such a thing though, like.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Many of his stats are actually how no one can
win a five hundred and twenty games in Major League
Baseball that sounds completely made up, and him just being
like I won three games last week.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
One hundred percent. I get that, and I understand the
argument like nobody cares about Sang. I don't give a
shit about Sion qui honesty anymore. But at the same time,
like that's an award where it's just like it's kind
of transcendent, like Best Picture award, Like you don't need
that for that like MVP you want to change it's
like the Barry Bonds Award or a Rod Award or whoever. Fine,
I can get behind that, but Cion should probably be
left alone.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
NHL. You can toss out the heart, you can toss
out the Norris call it the Gratzky the ore. We're
not a sports show here, so police stay on.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Track, though I apologize do.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Over. At the box office this past weekend, Minecraft down
about fifty percent, but they still made eighty million dollars domestic.
As of right now, we're world wide through it's two weeks,
five hundred and fifty on its gross. The Jesus Movie
starring Oscar Isaac made almost twenty million, and the amateur

(04:10):
the Rami Malick movie fifteen million. Really the big news
out of this, though, is just the mayhem. It's the
havoc that is happening at the theaters as these as
the youth are watching Minecraft, throwing popcorn, throwing sodas, bringing
in live chickens, losing their minds.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Well you know, okay, I mean like they're having a
fun time. Just be thankful that they're back at the theaters.
I just want to know the Jesus movie, is this
the one where Apocalypse shows up? As this is origin story?

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I honestly have no idea. I just saw the title.
I said, this sounds like a faith based movie. It is,
and it stars Oscar Isaac and Mark Hamill, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
But he's playing He's playing Apocalypse again, right He's in seven?
Or am I mixing things.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Up playing Luke Skywalker? But with the whole mayhem. We
have some disclaimers that are now popping up before some
screenings of Minecraft, asking people to please tone it down
and if you can't, we're gonna throw you out. Jack
Black even showed up at a screening of one of
these movies and ask fans not to throw popcorn all

(05:11):
over the theater. I have a suggestion. Are you ready
for this? Yes, take away everyone's phones. If they don't
have their phones and they can't record it, no one's
gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
That's true. That's a very good point. If there's no phones,
there's no incentive to do this.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
And I think that's yeah, but it's all for social media.
It's all the post on TikTok.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Yeah, but you're but everybody you think that's gonna fly,
like if someone.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
I'm here to give you a solution. I'm telling you
what the problem is. This is a simple solution. I
go to brag plenty of screeners where I have to
hand my phone over at the beginning of the movie.
They put it in a bag, they hand it back
to me at the end. Okay, if you want the
mayhem to stop, take away the children's phones.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Okay, I see you. You have like a level of
experience with something. I thought you were just kind of
saying I.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Have no experience. I have never dealt with children before.
In the past. Yes, we all have phones. I can
talk about that, Friar.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Okay, Okay, you're missing the point. I'm not gonna stoop
myself any further. My biggest thing is, like I feel
for the theater employees. But the whole idea of like
you're gonna tell people how to celebrate a thing when
you've been clamoring about getting people back into theaters and
now you're gonna tell them how to go about this,
that just that never works out.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Well. Look, I am also happy that people are back
in the theaters, and when movies like this make a
lot of money, you can then take that money and
put it toward other movies. But I feel more for
the common man.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
That's fair.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
For the theater employee that you are just pooh poohing
and saying, who gives a shit about them? I'm saying,
they have so much work to do and they're not
getting any extra money for this. They have to go
in and mop up all of this garbage after.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
So here's where. So I don't I am not trying
to put down the you are we hear you? Because
my old man was a movie theater.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Oh look at Fryar. My best friend's a black guy. Okay,
my wow, Okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
My father, first of all. Second, no, if the theaters
have a serious, like, if the people who are making
these movies have a serious issue with this, then why
don't you do something to help the people who are
cleaning this up other than just giving out this little blanket?
Oh like, please don't do this. No one's gonna listen
to that. How is that helping anybody? It's only going
to incentivize kiss to do it more because they know

(07:33):
it's getting to you. So I think this is this
move is idiotic.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Okay, So can we come to a compromise here?

Speaker 2 (07:40):
I don't think so, but sure we can try.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
You pay the theater employees more money to clean up
after Oh.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
I love that. Yes, that's exactly what it should be.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
One we did it lose? Do in theaters this coming week?
Could it dethrown mine craft? That's what it's called. Animals
called it something else, but it probably will not. Is Sinners.
That is the Ryan Cougler, Michael A. And Michael B.
Jordan movie that is coming out this weekend. After forty

(08:09):
five reviews on roddy Te's right Now one hundred percent
and while on I'm not sure if it's a podcast
a web show, but it is at Straw Underscore, Hat Underscore, Goofy.
Cougler said that he drew inspiration for the movie from
Puss in Boots The Last Wish, saying, think about the

(08:32):
villain death, his defining features, the eyes, his demeanor.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Ooh, okay, I gotta say. I'm gonna tell myself here.
I've never seen any of the Puss and Boots movies.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
What are you doing? You like animation? This is there's
a bunch of animated movies that have come out recently
that are really playing with how different you can take animation. So, yes,
you have Spider Verse. You had a bit of a
Spider Verse knockoff with TMNT last year. But Puss in
Boots did an amazing job with their animation to jump

(09:05):
from several different kinds of genres of cartooning, and it
is wonderful. Not only is it a great story, it
is visually stunning.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I had no idea. Shame on me. I'm gonna have
to to do something about this, because yeah, that's good
to know. I had no idea, and I definitely want
to support that kind of stuff. You're abolute right. But
regarding the success of this in terms of the reviews
and stuff like that, I wasn't sure if I was
going to see Sinners. You know, I saw it. I'm
just like, okay, like this, it seems like it might

(09:35):
be interesting. But also I'm not exactly certain the way
the critics are responding to this, like I'm very much interested.
Now now I feel like I have to give it
a chance. Were you planning I mean, I'm assuming you
get to see it for you.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yeah, we were gonna possibly do it for the end
of the week, but we have Daredevil. We'll talk about
that in one second, so probably the start of next
week that we will get to Centers. It was for
a while a borderline full movie topic for the podcast.
I think it definitely is now. The trailers have looked good.

(10:06):
But you really need to look at Coogler's just run
of movies over the last decade or so, where he's
just put out bangers. And yes, Roddy T's is not everything,
but when you're nailing pretty much ninety percent up every
single time, you're making good movies.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Yep, yeah, absolutely, you gotta respect one hundred percent. And
then when and I agree with you, Like in terms
of Rotten Tomatos in general, It's not like a definitive
thing for me. But when I'm on the border of
a movie or just like you know, could go either way,
and then I see such a strong response that has
that has a pretty strong impact on whether or I
see that movie.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Look, don't fully go off of what Rotten Tomato says.
Use it, like Friar said, is like maybe a push.
But what you want to do is you want to
find movie critics or people that talk about movies on
a consistent basis and go off of the recommendations that
you constantly either agree with or you believe him. I'm
not saying to do it with us. I am saying

(11:02):
right now though, that if you are watching this podcast,
if you're on YouTube right now, smash that subscribe button.
Give us a light. Apparently those are very important things.
So thumbs up right now. Also subscribe. You need to subscribe.
I can't believe that all of you have not subscribed yet.
Unreal news Day, Bad Day, the retle Juice, Threetle Juice,

(11:24):
Threetle Juice off the back of Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice very successful.
Last summer via Deadline, Beetlejuice three is in the works.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I'm kind of surprised that Keaton is doing this again,
but at the same time, it's like he's getting to
whatever his payday is. It can't be bad. And he's
in the movie for no more than seventeen minutes at
a time, so.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Yep, it felt like he was in a lot more
of the movie the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but it turns out
still about twenty minutes. Still not a lot of it.
And I am a fan of like the Beetlejuice High Jinx.
I really liked the Beetlejuice animated shit that was like
the Misadventures of Beetlejuice and Lydia. I was not a
fan of the movie that came out last year. I

(12:07):
thought it was fine. I thought it met the bare
minimum of what I would watch with a Beetlejuice movie.
But there was just something off about Keaton, his Beetlejuice.
And look, he's thirty years older than when the original
one came out. You can't fall wait nout forty almost forty,
Jesus christow almost forty. So the Juice he says the

(12:29):
juice is loose. I thought the juice was not quite loose.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I think the juice is loose, just not in the
way that he used to meet it. But my big
thing is I think this one, the third one, is
gonna be received better than the second one.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Dare I looked a ridiculous statement, what a how? Why
you have no proof of this?

Speaker 2 (12:47):
It's gonna be because the expectations were so high for
number two, because it was like, it's been so long,
everybody wanted, everybody couldn't wait to see it. Obviously, money
monetarily wise, it did well. It may not do better monetarily,
but now the expectation to have been lowered. So now
we're going to see this number three and be like, oh,
it's as good as the other one. So people will
probably like that more. It's all about expectations, Coop.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
They also took a bit of sandpaper to Beetlejuice's personality
in this one kind of shaved off some of the
stuff that you know might not fly in these days.
With what Beetlejuice was eight times, they are a changing Now.
That would be a crossover that I would watch is
if you did Beetlejuice and Bob Dylan.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Sure, Timothy Shalloway, Yeah, of course, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Hey Bob showtime. Here's dup over on Disney Plus. If
you were listening to this on Goos Day, it is
out to nights. If it's a Wednesday, it's available for
you to watch right now. And that is Daredevil Born Again.
The finale is available right now. Friar, I guess I'll

(13:54):
say this spoiler wish. Is there something from the comics
that you are expecting to happen in this finale?

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Ooh, that's okay. So obviously in name, this is based
on U the name, it's based on Darreed Devil Born Again.
But the thing that's been cited often is that it's
also based on chips of Darski's running documentaries. It every
time in our DSG chat that he gets a chance
to also based on Devil's Reign, which is where we
saw a kingpin become the mayor of the city. We've
seen some elements of that thrown in the mix. One

(14:26):
of the big things for me is Elektra. They've kind
of taught like we've seen a LOADI Young pop up
here and there, like around the show and how she's
not involved in some capacity. I'm wondering if she's gonna
show up in this last episode and then play a
bigger role. I don't want to spoil as to why,
but there's a big thing, interesting thing that happens with
her during Chips of Darsky and Marco Chicatto's run on

(14:49):
Daredevil with her that I like, everybody's gonna love once
they see it. They've already seen it in some capacity
the artwork in the past, but that's what I'm looking
forward to and hoping we get to see most in
the finale.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
There's Depp over on X. We saw a couple of photos,
a couple of stills of possible leaks of Lobo from
the upcoming Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, and you know Lobo
better than me.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
What do you think in terms of how those pictures
look or in terms of extras?

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Do you have eyeballs? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:20):
In terms of the pictures, I mean, the first one's
far away, and I feel like we've seen that image before.
I don't think. I don't I questioned the validity of
that one. The other one, I'm also not certain, but
it looks good, like if that's how Jason Momoa ends
up looking as Lobo. I think it's spot on. I
think I think he's perfect for this character. And so,
I mean, I'm sure Pe'll talk about in so many ways,

(15:40):
but from a look standpoint, if that's it, they got
it right.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
There's Depp. Still no script for The Batman too, but
Warner Brothers is not worried, saying DC knows he's a writer, director,
auteur in his own rights. It'll come when he's written
his best Batman script possible. That is via deadline to
them talking about Matt Reeves and as we continue to

(16:07):
wait on this movie, reports are also now saying that
Robert Pattinson will be joining the cast of Dune three,
potentially Skytel Skytail. There we Go. Skytail is a tolay
Leasu face dancer who participates in the conspiracy to topple

(16:28):
the rule of Poltreatees.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Face dancers are my least favorite kind of dancers.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I personally love them.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
What the hell is that I can't wait to see
this next movie? These things are insane. We're regarding the
Matt Reeves stuff though, like he should have all the
time in the world.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Go like this is not well, no no, no, no, no,
no no. You need some kind of a deadline. I
don't want The Batman too in twenty years. And I'm
not saying to rush it, but I'm saying, like, we
gotta go move it at some point.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
I'm not saying give him. You know, this should turn
to George R. R. Martin to suation. I agree with that,
but at the same time, like, there's not this rush
other than you know, Robert Pattinson's not getting any younger
because James gunn this is not part of his DC
universe and everything. This is its own thing. So give
him he casts a couple of tree years. I think
that the average movie does.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
I mean, they could just start doing The Dark Knight returns.
I guess they could get it because he's old. Now
mm hmm, that's story. That's from the books. It's from
the books. You've read the books, Yes, there you go.
So Robert Pattinson's possible schedule over the next couple of years.
We have The Odyssey, which is now filming, Dune three,

(17:37):
which begins filming over the summer, and The Batman two,
which should start filming at the end of the year.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Nice. Yeah, he's a busy man. He's been doing some
great stuff.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
I love Boy. News dump Warner Brothers TV Boss says
that the Penguin season two is not currently in the works.
Never say never. It's definitely possibility, but there's nothing in
the works at the moment. This is via Deadline. I
would like to see the Penguin back. We've mentioned this
on several news dumps. I like the character, I like

(18:09):
the characters on that show, but I would like them
to focus on a different villain. But you can just
widen out the Gotham world, call it something else. But
Colin Ferrell still there.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, And I also want to see Sophia Hone back
in the mix as well, and I don't The thing is,
initially my thought is like, Okay, I want to see
them going against each other, but that's we've already done
that and we've seen them.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
What who's this against that?

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I don't know. But where I'm going with this is
I kind of want to see them just like, instead
of having them going head to head, have them teamed up.
I don't care who it's against necessarily, just because maybe
the Riddler or whatever, you can figure something out. But
with well, they already use them anyways. With him and Sofia,
I feel like there's built intension if you have them
teamed up versus you know, if they're going head to head.
We've seen that as some capacity. It's interesting, but having

(18:56):
them like have to trust each other again after everything
that's happened, I I feel like you can repeat that
in some ways and do a lot more with it.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Now there's debt. But the first episode of season two
of the Last of Us it is now available on Max.
I have yet to catch it. I need to get
back into the proper mentality, the proper you know, serious
television watching mentality. I've kind of turned my brain offs
and severance, so I need to turn my brain back

(19:23):
on while watching television.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
I am on the note of shows. Not to derail
us from the Last of Us, but are you gonna
watch Devil May Cry as well? Animated show on Netflix
based off the video game?

Speaker 1 (19:33):
No, I've never even heard of it? Is it good?

Speaker 2 (19:36):
You never never heard of Devil mccry like that? Even
the video game? Like? No, wow, yeah, it's like is
it based on a is it Kononomi or Capcom? I
think it was a Capcom game. Oh, yeah, I love
that game, but it was I love the show. Seim's
gonna watch it as well. It was outstanding, but from
last of us. So this got an eight point two
on IMDb as a single episode. Only two episodes from

(19:57):
season one were lower than that. Whatever it's for, whatever
that's worth.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Okay, news dupe, and we finally have our results, our
champion from our March Macnus Food Mascot bracket and we
had a finals of the one seed from the I
Forget the bracket names the Rex, Ryan Regent, and then
the finalist from the I'm blanking on the fast Food one.

(20:24):
I'm not sure what it is, but it was Grimace.
It was kool aid Man versus Grimace, and the people tied.
There was a tie, so we had a tie. We
had a tie for the championship. The fast Food or
the food mascot winner was a tie. So then we
had a little runoff and kool aid Man one. Oh yeah,
I would say that kool aid Man and Tony the

(20:45):
Tiger were the chalky picks heading into the voting process,
and Toni the Tiger did make the final four. He
lost a kool aid Man there, but yeah, I think
kool aid Man was consensus the number one food mascot.
I would like to thank every one right now who participated.
Unless you voted for the Pillsbury Doughboy in the first round,
you can go fuck yourself. But everyone else who participated

(21:07):
in our food mascot bracket, thank you for having fun
with us, and we'll try and think of something else
for next year. News Dope, all right, check us out.
At the end of the week, we'll have our Daredevil
Born Again season one recap, and then next week centers Friar.
Thank you for joining me.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Want to plug yourself?

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Well, I don't want to plug myself without you inviting
me to, but yes, you can listen to a TLDR
Comic book Club where we talk about all the comics
before they get turned into shows and or movies over
on Apple, Podcast, Spotify, all the platforms you find Mac
and Goo you can find us there. You also can
follow us on Instagram, YouTube, and Blue Sky.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
But that is it. Good. Sorry, I wasn't paying attention.
I was reading Marmaduke reading at the end of the week,
