*Four ways the Law amplifies God’s promise:

BIG IDEA: You belong to sacred history.
* Four reasons your story fits into sacred history:
1) You’re justified the same way as Abraham. (v.6,7)
2) You’re blessed the same way as Abraham. (v.8,9)
3) You’re cursed the same way as Abraham’s descendants if you try some
other way. (v.10-12)
4) You’re redeemed the same way as Abraham’s descendants if you turn and
trust God’s way. (V.13,14)

BIG IDEA: Both salvation (justification) and all its promised benefits belong to Jews and Gentiles alike through faith alone in Christ.
* Three proofs that justification and its benefits are ours on the basis of faith:
1) A proof from the obvious. (v.21)

3) A proof from faith’s provenance. (v.6)

BIG IDEA: To trust in Jesus Christ, and so to become united to Him by faith, is to begin a whole new life.
*Two things true faith in Christ involves:
1) A death.
2) A new life.

BIG IDEA: No one is justified by their own works.
1) Justification is either a declaration of your righteousness based on your
perfect works…

demonstrating your perfect obedience to God’s laws.)

2) Justification is a declaration of your righteousness based on Christ’s
imputed works.

BIG IDEA: God will be with you.
1)God will be with you in your fears— He sends His people and His promises.
2)God will be with you in your faithlessness— He sends His pledges.
3)God will be with you in your frailty— He sends His own Person.

BIG IDEA: Don’t be afraid— your God will come and save you.
*3 reasons God’s people don’t have to be afraid:
1) The promise of salvation. (v.1-4)
2) The power of salvation. (v.5-7)
3) The procession of salvation. (v.8-10)

BIG IDEA: The Christ is coming forth.
*The Christ who is coming forth…
1) …will be miraculous from the start. (v.1)
2) …will be moved by the Spirit of the LORD. (v.2)
3) …will be marked in His rule by:
a. Righteous judgment (v.3-5)
b. Peace and love through changed natures (v.6-9)

BIG IDEA: It makes no sense to trade the grace of Christ for a different gospel.
*Four reasons it doesn’t make sense:
1)It represents a desertion of the God who called them. (v.6)
2)It entertains a perversion of the good news sent to them. (v.7)
3)It results in the damnation of the ones who trouble them. (v.8-9)
4)It questions the motivation of why Paul came to them. (v.10)

*Three reasons we have peace with God:
1) The gracious payment at the cross.
2) The gracious purpose of the cross.
3) The gracious plan for the cross.
