Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we always do on a Saturday morning, we'll start
with bowls. Jason Puddock is here for the weekly reports.
Very good morning to you, Jason.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Morning goops.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Well, there's a great weekend for bowles Jason, and we'll
get to the Trans Tasman competition very shortly heading into
today two there across all the different divisions, but we've
got a few things to look at first, Jason, and
we'll start with the Tutador Quad.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, so the reps were played last Sunday, the Terror
of Quad between Wellington, Capiti, Wirerapra and Manor two and
the Open Woman. Capiti won that event with eight and
a half wins, Fox playing Wellington with six and a
half wins, Manoritu on six wins, in the wire Rapera
on the three wins, and the Development Woman Fox playing
(00:43):
Wellington came out on top with eight wins out of
their twelve matches. Manoritz Tuo in second place, Capiti on
six wins and third in the WIRERAPRAA with two and
a half winds. And of course to find the overall
winner for the Woman's we combine those scores and this
was a very ty contest with Fox plan Wellington and
Capiti both tying on fourteen and a half wins, with
(01:06):
Wellington edging them on shots differential over the day, with
Manuwitu and third and the Wire Rapper in fourth place.
In the Open men, the fox Pan Wellington team very
much dominated this event. They won eleven out of twelve games,
which is a great effort. Manuwitu second on five wins,
(01:26):
Warre Rapra on five wins and Capidi on three wins.
And in the Development men again Fox Pan Wellington came
out on top of this with eight wins, the Wirerapper
close behind with seven and a half wins, Manitu with
six and a half wins and Capiti with three wins.
And like the ladies, we combine those scores to find
the overall winner and no surprise here Fox Fan Wellington
(01:47):
with nineteen wins out of their twenty four matches across
the day, Wyre Rapper in second place, Manuwitu third and
Capity fourth. So a very good hit out for all
the Wellington teams as a head into another rep match
in about two weeks time.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, great, well, congratulations to those winners and I know Jason.
The Tartanucky Bowls competition there's a big one recently. A
lot of Wellington bowlers make the trip up for that one,
and how did some of our bowlers get on up there.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, So the Taranicke Fours finished last weekend. This is
the premier fours tournament in the country. One hundred and
eighty teams from New Zealand, Australia and a team from
America this year as well, so very much an international event.
We had Rob Ashton from Miramar making quarterfinals and he
was playing with a team out of Auckland. But we
(02:38):
did have a local team and that made the semi
finals and that was the two brothers from Johnsonville, Logan
and Brady Amar, and they teamed up with Simon Kenny
from Upper Heart and his son Marshall Kenny from silver
Stream to like to say make the semi final. That's
great for Marshall. He's in his first five years of
bowls and he's only eighteen, so a great effit there
(02:59):
by marsh It's a long, long tournament that one, so
I'm sure he had a big rest afterwards. And then
of course the Taraniki Women's Fours are currently on and
we're down the quarter finals today and we have a
team from nine I still going, so we'll monitor that
and we'll report back on that next week.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Find of all, we'll watching them all the best of luck.
And I mentioned at the start Jason, huge weekends for
bowls in our region. Of course, the nine our club
have the privileges up the privilege of hosting the big
trans Tasma Bowls. With New Zealand's taking on Australia big events.
It's broadcast everywhere, but people can get along as well,
can't they.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, absolutely, So this started yesterday with the first Test
match being played. Did some research and the last time
New Zealand won this event was in twenty and seventeen
and the last time on home so I was in
twenty eleven, so no doubt they'll be up to try
and get that trophy back off Australia. And as you mentioned,
(03:54):
live on Sky Sports at eight forty five this morning
again and on New bowlsies of a New Tube channel,
So if you can't get down, jump online watch those games.
And yesterday it was interesting yesterday close it was probably
the best way to describe it. In the open men
we had they drew their series with Australia three to three.
(04:19):
But lost on coumpback by thirteen shots. The Open woman
also drew their match three to three and lost by
the closest margin, which was one differential shot across the day,
and that's a very tight contest there. The Development men
went down six zero. Again, the Development woman tied the
(04:39):
match three all but went down on a countback, and
the same with the Power is three all and lost
on a countback. So Australia wredn't the first test five nil,
but as you can see by those results, there's literally
nothing in it. So a big day today. She's she's
a little bit overcast, but not too bad. If you're
(05:00):
watching online you'll see the development teams playing and on
sky Sport, and if you get down you can watch
watch the open players playing outdoors and I encourage everyone
to get along. It's free to come along. There's no
barriers stopp and you're getting close to the players. You
can sit RNK side, great facilities at nine eye, great bar,
(05:21):
great cafe, I mean, and you can come down and watch.
We've got national champions, Commonwealth Champions, World Champions, world Champion
of Champions and of course we've got a host of
local players as well. Including finmn Bar Mcgwiggan, Blake Signal,
Robbie Bird and Natasha Russell and Mark Noble who plays
for the pair of teams who is a Wellington Wellington
(05:44):
man shifted out of the area now but very much
played most of his bowls in this area.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah. Great now, so many good reasons to come down Jason,
and it's a great, great chance for people that you know,
I don't necessarily play. You'll get along to the nine
O Club just to see the awesome facility we have
in our region right.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Oh. Absolutely like to say you don't have to be
a bowler to go down and watch. I mean it's great.
You'll see some good competition. I mean the Australians are
none for being quite vocal, so it should be good
to watch. And the more support we get down there
for our players the better. And it'll be a great
day out. And like I say, you'll see some top
bowls up close, wonderful.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Well, you have a great weekend, Jason. Thanks for bringing
us up to speed with all that, and we'll chat
again next Saturday.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
