Speaker 2 (00:16):
But now it's a national travesty. New Zealand's classic marmite
and chip sandwich has been named the seventeenth worst food
in the world. The reviews come from online food guide
Taste Atlas in their annual annual one hundred ranking. And
by the way, the worst is Swedish. I don't know
(00:37):
how to pronounce it, blood palt or something which contains
reindeer or pigs, blood on on. Just on that sort
of level, it's also probably the most traumatic one, I'd say,
But anyway, Joining me now is critic and head chef
at Wellington's Food in Food Envy. It's Max no Jazak.
Did I get that right?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
That's correct? Thank you?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Thanks mate. Look, I almost wonder if it's a compliment
to make that list, because I frankly liked the look
of some of those dishes. Did you what's your take
on it?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
I totally agree. I think half of the food I
was kind of confused as why does it make it
to this list because it looks pretty decent to me?
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Was the man?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
The other half is pretty scary.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
What was the most disgusting thing you saw on the
one hundred?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
It's definitely going to have to be something along the
like of the jackheads or anything along the likes of
the warm silk worms from Korea.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Ah. Yeah, that and the jellied eel is pretty disgusting.
But that's that Swedish dish that I mentioned, which does
sort of sound revolting because it just for the fact
it contains reindeer or pig's blood, actually looked quite tasty.
What did you think?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
I agree? There is some of it that sounds a
bit like black pudding, and I'm pretty into black pudding,
so yeah, I agree as well.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Anyway, let's get on to the major. The major travesty
Marmite and chip sandwiches. I have to confess to you,
I don't think I've ever had one, have you?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I've had one? Yes, just because we've been in New
Zealand for about eleven years now. We tasted as much
as possible, because being a chef, I'm quite curious. I
want to try things, and I must confess I've really
really always struggled with it. I just I just don't
understand the Chris sandwich to begin with, and let alone
adding mama to it.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
H is the Maybe the trick is I mean, how
much Mama did you put on there? I mean, as
a chef, I'm not really gonna I'm not really gonna
question you. But do you think I didn't?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
So one of my one of my TIVI friends did
it for me, and it's like you much write it.
This is a delicacy, And yeah, it was really hard
to put up a poker face on this one. I
just didn't like it, okay.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Because I was going to ask you what makes it
go so well together? But the answer is nothing?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
For you?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
What is wrong with it?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
I must say it's just mama to begin with, like
that strong bitter burnt flavor ish that's coming through, and
then it's missing a bit, like something softer. But I've
discussed with one of my colleagues this morning who said,
well made. What you struggle with is the fact that
whoever made is forgot to add the butter. You need
to add butter to make it delicious. So I think
(03:16):
I need to give it another show today. I at
the butter.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, no, absolutely, I mean it's taken us read You've
got to have butter and the sandwich, so be curious
to know, by the way, just quickly that Swedish dish
blood whatever you had, he sat blood pelt. Have you
tried that?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
I haven't. No, I haven't.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
You haven't. Okay, Well, next time we talk. That's that's
on your to do list.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Okay, sounds good to me.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Hey, good to talk to you, Max.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
And you need to have a fantastic day.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
