Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Radio Hodarkeys Off the Record podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
With Greg Preble. Let's have a chat with Mim Jensen.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Hey, how's it going?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Really well?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Thanks. Congratulations to you on a great new song. We'll
get to that shortly. But you're in christ Church this evening,
I presume, yes, yep, yeah, at home and Checher. And
how things been in twenty twenty four is we're only
a month till Christmas? What's been going on for you?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Man? It's been It's been a really cool year. I've
been playing, keeps working on new music. I've had some
really great support slots this year, and I'm so happy
with how things are going.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Who have you opened up for?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Recently opened for the Bits at the Church in christ Church,
which was amazing, such a dream come true. And I
just opened for Bob Mold and christ Church Chat Balloons.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well the grunge icon Bob Mold. Yeah, did you get
to have a chat with him backstage or anything?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I briefly got to chat with him at sound Chick,
which was really cool. Yeah, such a legend.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
And did you meet the Bets when you played with them?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
I did, yes, so lovely. Liz actually let me play
her custom guitar, which was such a dream. I'd like
said to her before, like, oh my god, I love
your guitar so much, and she was like, oh yeah, have.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
A go, and how did it feel to play it?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
It was so nice, Like I don't yeah, I've never
played a guitar, Like my guitar is like really old
and hers is like brand spanking news. So yeah, very
very cool. Handmade in the UK.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
That's quite something when you get a hand guitar. I've
heard of a guy in Wellington who hand makes guitars
and things. Is there anyone in christ Chiers that does
it differently?

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Is my friends and there's a Tuesday they have somebody.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And have you had a chance to play on that one?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Not yet? Not yet. I guess you got for the
day that I can get my custom Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Oh bit. And how would you make a Mimjensen guitar?

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Short scale and really light? Which is good for me
because I'm a pretty small person.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So you just made me think of the way people
hold their guitars. People like Noel Gallagher and Slash have
them way down almost on their knees the bass player
and Ash does the same thing. Do you have your
guitar low or higher in the middle or what's your thing.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Kind of like middle too high.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
And I'll ask you about any gigs you've got coming
up shortly. But first let's talk about the new song.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I wrote the same Blood last year. I was going
through a bit of a hard time. Last year was
pretty hard for me, and the song kind of just
poured out of me in about ten twenty minutes, sat
there with my guitar and it just poured out all
the lyrics. I didn't really have to change much. It
just felt like such a cathartic release for me. The

(03:00):
song specifically is about childhood wounds and rest within family dynamics.
It has felt vulnerable for me to release it, but
it's also felt important for me to at the same time.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, well, good on you for bravery to put it
out there, because there must have been a moment when
you thought, shall I.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Yeah, there has been. There has been those moments, for sure.
But I think if it can relate with anyone, and
if it can help anyone in their own journeys with
a similar struggle, then that's really cool.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Well let's tack it out, campers, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Can.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It's already a Hoardarchy and it's brand new from Mim Jensen.
It's called Same Blood and we're lucky enough to have
Mim on a zoom with us now from Christ Church
Killed and Mim, thanks for bringing us that.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Tune, No worries, Thank you for having.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Mem You've just released that song on Friday. How has
the reception been from family and friends? I mean you
mentioned it's got a real family connection and it makes
sense with the title being same Blood.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
It's been really good. Yeah. I had some good communication
with family before the song came out. It feels so
good to have it out in the world finally. And
it's helped me just let go of some things too,
which has felt really good.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
It's great how a song can do that.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
It really is. I feel really blessed to have music
to help me in that way.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Have you got any plans to play that song live
anytime soon?

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah? I actually played it live for the first time
opening for Bob Mold, which felt awesome. I played it
acoustic as well, which was a really nice way to
honor the way that I wrote it.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, they created it's just you and your guitar. When
you came up with the thing in the first place,
saying that the band added their bits later.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, yeah, definitely, and that.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Would have been in keeping with Bob Molds thing because
his show was just him and an electric guitar.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, it was amazing.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
He is just NonStop that guy.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Ah yeah, yeah, so much energy.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
How was his voice because I hear it was giving
away by the end of the tour speaking anyway, I
think singing he was still.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Honestly, yeah, he was really nailing it. It was just
like such great energy and yeah, really strong voice.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
And you opened up for the Beths recently as well.
Looking ahead to the summer, what's going on for you,
Mim Jensen.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Well, I'm lucky enough to be supporting She had on
their tour as a couple of dates of their tour
next year, which I'm really excited for.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
She had deciding to call it quits. How dare they
leave us like that? But this is going to be
one hell of a tour. Have you seen them play before?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yes, I did when I was a teenager. Actually it
would have been horn Castle Arena.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Leave an impression on you, It.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Did, Yeah, it really did. I got to go. I
think it was when I was at Hagley and we
got to go to their sound check and yeah, it
was very, very cool.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
And so will you remind the fellas of that when
you're backstage with them again next year?

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Surely? Surely?

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Oh, yeah, that's right. You're a lot younger. Will you
adjust your set in any way given that the Shehad
vibe is a little harder? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I think so. I'm really looking forward to playing some
new stuff.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Actually, you've just released Same Blood, but you've written more
songs this year I have.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
