Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
If there's been a harrow team in New Zealand sport
of the last six months or so, it's Auckland FC,
currently lurking at the top of the A League seven points.
I think they're up round twenty five. They are looking
the goods, but it's not about the Premier play. It's
about winning in the last game. But ahead of that

(00:34):
they've got other things to deal with. One of those
things is Western Sydney Wanderers. They take them on this
afternoon at Mountains Smart. That game kicks off at five
o'clock and we're joined by one of their players, Cam Howison.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Good morning, Cam, Morning morning Morney. How's it going.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
It's going very well. The morning of a big day.
They're all big day when you're playing for a team,
but in Auckland FC's situation, more pressure with every passing
game before season's end.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Yeah, obviously we're just we're in a good position at
the moment being top of the table, but we're obviously
taking each game as they come. We obviously had a
very tough game away at Brisbane last week, so Yeah,
full focus all weeks. Meaning for Western Sydney we know
they are a top of opposition as we found playing

(01:24):
away throughout the season.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
So yeah, another tough test today.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
You don't want to look too far into the future plainly,
but it must be tempting just to look over and go, wow,
we carry on going like this, we could be in
a great position come the end of the year.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah. I think it's just keeping our two feet on
the ground. You know. The coaching stuff is.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Obviously put that out to us throughout the week that
you know, the next game is the most important game.
So we're not looking, you know, the next game or
too far ahead of what could happen. It's about this
game today and trying to collect all three points and
put us in a better position game to the game
next week.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
It must be difficult though, not to have a wee
bit of a dream reverie around what's going on. I mean,
you're only human, after all, you are, aren't you a camera?

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah, obviously there's a there's a there's a bit of
talk around around the city and you know, if you
bump into people, they're talking about.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Finals football already, So yeah, it does.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Get spoken about from the outside, but when it's an inside,
it's definitely full focus on the game that's next.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Right, So what has to happen tonight? What are you
kicking off at five o'clock at go Media Stadium? What
are you looking to do? What are you looking to achieve?
Obviously besides taking a three points, but what do you
drag out of your last game away?

Speaker 4 (02:43):
So yeah, obviously when we obviously play at home, we
try to make it a fortress. And you know, it's
been great to have such good crowds and it gives us,
you know, the extra push that twelfth Man. So it's
about going out and putting in a performance in front
of our fans that you know, put in the time
and effort and put in a good showcase and making sure,
like you said, obviously we want the three points, but

(03:05):
we want to do style also.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
And you'd like to pick up that nudge because whole
I'm teeing every I'm wrong here. A lot of the
last few games you've only managed the draw, which has
got to be ultimately frustrating because you're still scoring goals.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Yeah, but on the flip side of that, we haven't
lost in I think eight or nine games. So even
though we're not we haven't been picking up three points
every week, we're still not losing games, so we're still
picking up points every week. And coming off the back
of three points last week and hot conditions in Brisbane,
it's you know, it's great for us coming into this

(03:40):
week with you know, a good motivation to keep keep
winning ways and get back to back wins.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Don't tell was it coming out of relentless stinking heat
and back to New Zealand which was finally starting to
show signs of autumn. Do you guys struggle with the adjustment.
There is that a factor.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
It can be, but you know, when we travel two
days earlier when we go to Australia and it actually
was raining the whole time that we were there apart
from game day, so the humidity is very hot. But
we do the utmost to try and climatize when we
go over there. We do, you know, saunas we're training
jackets when it has been really hot. This week's been

(04:22):
a little bit different, so yeah, we'd try our best
and the staff try their best to make sure that
we're climatizing ready.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
To play when we go to Australia.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
When it's really hot, will you say, Cam Howson's about
building a fortress. What can you actually do as a
player around that. It's not like you can buy one
hundred tickets and send to your mates along there. How
do you contribute to that fortress.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
I think it's not individuals, it's obviously all of us.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
It's about going out there and first and foremost.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Given one hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
I think that's what the fans want to see and
what they want to see the team giving everything and
they're bloody on the pitch.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
They want to see attractive football. They want to see goals.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
You know, we've got a good ratio of I think
we've kept quite a few clean sheets. I think we're
the lowest team with conceding goals, So that's attractive and
I'm sure that's why we've been.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Able to get big crowds.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
And you know, like I said, it's like having a
twelfth man and we feel the support when we're out.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
There finding details around your tactics and what you do
on the park. Consistency is proving to be good for you.
You don't change a great deal.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
No, we don't change a great deal. And everyone knows
their roles.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
You know, we've had injury suspensions in the last few
weeks and you know, the boys that have been called
upon to start games are fully ready. You know, the
boys like myself that haven't been starting many games. You know,
we do the extras and training to make sure that
we're fully prepared to do so.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
So yeah, what are you focusing on yourself? Is what
does Cameron Howson have to do to put his beast
foot forward? Is there any area you really think you've
got to lift?

Speaker 4 (06:05):
Yeah, can be challenging at times, but I know that
football you've got to be patient and you know you'd
be patient and when.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
The opportunity comes, you've got to take it.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
So yeah, I'm just really delighted that we're having such
a successful season so far and it's great to be
a part of it. So yeah, long man continue on.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
The back of a two nil victory of A Brisbane
this afternoon this evening one five o'clock or IFC take
on Western Sydney Wanderers, Cam will be there and we'd
like to think you will be there as well, Cameron
as a WAPs thanks for your time.
