Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
And summer rolls on. Indeed right the way into autumn
and beyond. This is the last to tip at it though.
Three One day internationals Pakistan surprise surprise, taking on the
black Caps. The first game starts at mcclaim Park and
Napier this morning at eleven o'clock. First ball is due
(00:32):
and we'll talking about that now with Mark Chapman.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Good morning, Mark, good morning, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Hey, thanks for joining us. The endless Pakistani summer carries on,
but this is the death throws of it. It's is
it good playing a constant diet of the same opposition,
albeit quite different because of the shuffling of the sides.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
I mean, it's just good to play consistent cricket, if
I'm really honest with you, And it seems that we
sort of come up against Pakistan quite often. I think
obviously the two cricket boards must get along pretty well. Well.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
They do, and it's joined together and you've had pretty
satisfaction results. I expect that even though it's a different format,
different players, you'd have a pretty upset bunch of Pakistan
cricketers to deal with after what happened in the T twenties.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yeah, I mean it was it was really nice to
get four wins out of five, you know, I think
we probably take that in most cases. And just the
way that we played our cricket too, it was, you know,
it was really confident cricket. And yeah, certainly we're looking
to carry that on in the one days, but I
think they've got a bit more experience of this one
day team, so it could present more of a challenge.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
So this not aggression, but this positive cricket. What's that
born off mark?
Speaker 3 (01:46):
I think it's just a new age approach to cricket.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
I think it's it's probably more so with with T
twenties and playing a fearless brand of cricket and knowing
that the surfaces here generally are pretty good, so they
favor batting, so you do have to be ambitious with
what you're trying to do. But yeah, I think we'll
have to adjust and settle back into the rhythm of
one day cricket, which was obviously a lot longer it is.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
But you've got a similar release from the coaching staff
saying see it see ball, hit ball, play the game,
how you play it. I'm talking like the way to
say it. But the bass ball operated and it moved
on to twenty through one day is through test cricket?
Have you got that license to behave like that much?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Well?
Speaker 4 (02:33):
In T twenty is you know something we speak about
if you feel like it's your day and you know
particular you take a liking to a particular bowler, then
you know you have one hundred percent backing of the
team and the staff to take it on.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
And I think one day cricket's not too dissimilar.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
But I think you just have to play with it
with some more game sparts, with the length of the game.
I think if you if you look to go too
hard to earlyast, sometimes you can get yourself into.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
A little bit of trouble just because there is so
much time.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Do you have a preference? I suppose that's a stupid
question as long as you're playing right.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Ah, Yes, I mean yeah, I don't really have a
preference between the two, to be honest, Yeah, I just
enjoy playing from his zeland.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
So as far as today is concerned, over in the
Hawk's Bay m Acclaim Park, what have you set yourself
out to achieve, You've got a set of instructions internally
and externally.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Well, it's a bit of a different group to the
T twenty teams, so you know, there's potentially a couple
of debutantes. So it's just about getting into the rhythm
of the game. And you know, obviously it is. You know,
it's going to be a different surface, different ground. One
of the things here in his Zealanders, each ground is
pretty unique, and McClean parks no different, with some longest
(03:43):
straight boundaries and some short square ones. So we're just
going to have to adapt to what's in front of us.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
You're looking forward to seeing perform. You've got Marti who
has been dragged into the team. You've got an elder
as far as a debutante is concerned too, which is
it's really great to see from his point of view.
You've got as Shock having a crack. I'm interested in
what Nick Kelly can do after so long in the background.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Yeah, well, well Nick Caley's been around a while now. Personally,
I've known him since since school days. We've played against
each other quite a lot. And next someone who's you know,
come on leaps and bounds, particularly in the last couple
of years. And you know he's he's has capped through
some really really strong performances and you know it's really
cool to see him get an opportunity and yeah, hopefully
(04:29):
you know for him he can settle into the game
and put a big score up.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Well I mentioned Eddie asha Can and a couple of
other players, but I didn't mention Mo Abbas And it's
another one of the Wellington massive that have turned out.
What are the chances of a whole lot of those
mean actually getting a run first up? Or is that
a bit dangerous do you think?
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Yeah? Another another Wellingtonian from Auckland. But he Yeah, Moe's
an exciting unplay. I think he's only twenty one years old,
so he's a baby when it when it comes to
his cricketing career.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
But yeah, he's an impressive talent.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
You know, he's shown his stripes for the bat, but
he's pretty handy with the ball as well. And then
and then we also have Addie Ashark, who you know,
possesses some really exciting skills and as a leg spinner,
one one of his biggest assets is his accuracy, which
is not that common in that craft. So yeah, we're
looking forward to seeing, you know, if those guys get
an opportunity to see what they can do.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
And as a dirty can tab, I've got to mention
Henry Nichols having another shot too. That makes me smile
from ear to ear.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, I mean Henry will bring a wealth of experience
as well, and I think you know that there is
not as much experience as there probably has been in
the recent past in the side and so you know,
to Toy will bring a calming influence to the group,
that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Sorry, Towey, Yeah, Toy. The boys called him to I
don't actually know why, but they call him Toy. That's
his nickname.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Sorry, there we go. We know now, and that means
I've got to ask what's your nickname?
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Oh? They just got me to Chappy pretty Vanilla really.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Okay, Vanilla Chap, thank you very much for joining us
here on the show. Get in there, get monkst enjoy yourself.
I'll certainly be enjoying lying on the couch drinking crafty
be as watching you guys winn again. Thanks for your time.
Thank you very much, Vanilla Chap.
