Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB ninety seven.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Football Here it is, let's get talking. Orkan lef CV
Wellington Phoenix, Ilkan Leaf CS. Nando Pinket joins us. Now,
good morning, how are you.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, I'm doing well. I'm doing well.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Thanks for having me, and you must be I'm great.
You must be very excited about what's up in front
of you. You're still thrashing everybody, which is absolutely crazy
from AKAFC, but now the Derby, this these things must
really get their hairs on a Beckier nick standing up you.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yeah, it's an extremely exciting game for us, so we're
all really looking forward to it and hopefully we can
bring a good result as well.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
You're not overly stimulated? Is that something you good to
look at from from a coaching point of view, because
you'd be right up for it.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah. Obviously, everyone's yeah, ready to go. But as soon
as they the game kicks off, of course there's going
to be a little bit of yeah edge to the game.
But you want to be calm and you want to
still put on a really good Perfemans score some goals
and hopefully win the game.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, score some goals. I like the sound of that,
and I'll maybe score them like early in the piece.
You're probably sick of hearing that that. I mean, it's
it's hard to take material what you guys get up
to on a regular basis, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, yeah for sure. So hopefully we could score on
early one and keep the game a bit calm, and yeah,
hopefully we're just looking for a good performance.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Well, what's coach Kurraker being too, Because planning you've got
to keep stimulation amongst the team, and you're setting pretty
things going very very well, but nothing is one yet.
So how is he upping the anty? What's he bringing
to train to keep things fresh?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, as you say, the trainings are at a very
high level. There's a lot of players that are also
not playing, so they're trying to take your spot. So
I think that brings the competition and training. And yeah,
we're training at a very high level, so I think
we're all improving. But yeah, I say competition for spots
is driving it a lot.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
That's awesome, and I'm presuming it's something you experienced all
your life. It's not a not an aggressive thing. I
mean unless there's some guys doing something cruety and the
changing shed, but it's setting from all from a place
I love, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah. Yeah, No, we don't have any I would say
bad people in our changing room. Obviously, it's extremely competitive
on the training pitch, but we do look after each
other as well. So no, it's been a really good
environment so far and hopefully we can carry that on
throughout the throughout the season.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
So he's chasing your jersey, Uh, there's.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
A there's a few of them. Obviously. We've had a
few injuries in center back with Dan Hall being up,
so he's on the way back. I think he's expected
to come back shortly. So yeah, hopefully his rehabit is
going really well and we'll see him back in back
in Auckland, back in Auckland shirt soon.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
In some team sports, when the star comes back, it's
almost like a fad of complete that he will get
the jerseys. That's similar within the ranks of Auckland FC.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
I don't know how it's going to work. Obviously we're
performing well. We were performing well with him and the
team and we're performing well since Tommy's come in. Tommy
Smith's come in as well, so ultimately it's not my
decision who gets to play that that's the difficult decision
for the manager to decide. So yeah, we'll see what.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Can only improve the side right across the board and
that energy. Yeah, I don't want to compete myself to
a pro football player because I'm not as well. But
when the youth come through and want to steal my job,
but I don't freak out, it just makes me better
because I'm terrified they're going to take it. But that's
good positive energy.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. Like I said earlier,
it's the competition for places that really makes us a
very competitive, competitive team, and I think that's also why
we're winning the games we're winning, because, yeah, you're never
guaranteed your your spot in football, and obviously there's games
where yeah, maybe you don't play so well or you
draw or lose the game, and then the manager is
going to make changes. So you're always on your toes
(04:00):
working as hard as you can to make sure that
you're always in the in the starting team and you're
always playing. So it makes it difficult.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
What have been the tweaks And you think particularly you've
been trying to eradicate from the last handful of games.
I mean, you've done really well what you've made four
four wins in the last five games. I think it is,
so there's not too much to clean up. But what
have you been looking at, trying to alter or to twist.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
I think, yeah, we're still obviously a pretty brand new team,
so there's always room for improvement. We can always play, yeah,
play better football, be better in certain areas, so maybe
position of the ball, things like that. On the ball,
we can still gel better. There's always places where we
can improve. So all of those things we can tweak
and hopefully improve. But also yeah, when you play against
(04:44):
different teams, the other teams set up differently, so if
to play to our strengthen hopefully their weaknesses. So little
things like that we try to tweak.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Each game you're playing to a sold out crowd, and
this is fantastic something about Mount Smarter because the Warriors
keep doing it too. About that environment. That's got to
lift everybody surely, And I'm sure that the port have
got some new chance as well.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I hope. Yeah, Yeah, it's amazing. I keep saying that
they're our twelfth man, they really get behind us. They've
been amazing all season, so we're looking forward to this
game again. It's going to be massive and it's cool
that we're playing, yeah, a derby game and the stadium
has sold out, so you can't ask for more.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Phoenix sitting tenth in the competition at the latter as
well as not being the best year, but it's definitely
not all over. What do they bring? Where are their threats?
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, they obviously they have a lot of threats. I
think they're strong. Strong players are coming back into the
team now too. I know Alex Ruffall is out for
a while and Tim Payne as well. I know they're
coming back into the or they're starting to come back
into the team now. So yeah, they bring obviously threats.
Alex ruff is the captain of the team, so he
has his qualities that I think most people know. And
(05:51):
obviously you have to look at Costa as well, the
striker up front. So yeah, there have plenty of areas
where they're where they're dangerous, but hopefully we can we
can stop them on on Saturday. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
If I gave you an immature nickname, would you deal
with it? Aka Nanda or not on. Yeah, yeah, okay,
So your last name's Pinnaker. So if I call you
the pastry Thief, Nando, the pastry thief as in pine knicker,
that's going to be okay.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Right, yeah, one hundred percent. I like that one.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I've got to grow up, I really do. Nando. Enjoy
yourself out there, I know you always do. Let's put
on one Halla Halla display. Looking forward to it five
o'clock tonight, it gets underway at Mount Smart and as always, Mane,
thanks very much for joining us here on zenb Awesome,
