Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're talking international cricket now on the show. We're just
twenty four hours away and a little bit more from
the summer of international cricket getting underway here in New Zealand,
black Caps hosting England in a three Test series, with
the first one getting underway eleven o'clock tomorrow out of
Hagley Oval in Christia. Joining us on the show this morning,
black Caps bowling coach Jacob or Morning.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Jacob, Morning, How are you very well?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Thank you? Looks like the weather's going to be fine
for day one tomorrow. How's the preparation been.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah, we're the forecast is good, thankfull, especially tomorrow is
supposed to get hot tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
And not too bad for the whole five days. A
little bit of rain here.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
At the moment for the preparations, but we'll be fine.
But everyone's feeling good. We've been here in camp since
Monday for turn around since the shlank and white ball series.
But the boys have trained, are had some good meetings
around what we want to do, our plans, et cetera,
and ready to go.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
And coming off that special series when in India. What's
the key to keeping that momentum going?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Jacob yeah, I've been asking a few times, like in
terms of the feeling in the camp, you know, in
that moment and their confidence. But I think you know,
the guys obviously took a lot from that series. But
at the same time, you know, and without trying to,
you know, basically draw a light in the sand, as
you know, we understand that those very different conditions, very

(01:22):
different opposition and so it's almost like you've got to
start again, and that was a great month of cricket
and India don't get me wrong, but we know that
this is going to be a completely different challenge in
completely different conditions. So it's about sort of resetting and
refocusing for what's ahead of us, while at the same time,
you know, still looking back fondly on that month in October.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
It must be great having Kine Williamson back in the
squad as well. How key is that.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
He's all right, he's just walked past me, so I
don't think you can hear. I mean, it's you know,
he's he's.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Arguably our cricket one of our best cricketers. Shouldn't make
too many large statements this early in the morning, but
you know, to have came back into the fold and
you know, one hundred percent and refreshed physically and all
of that stuff like it's it's awesome. And he just
brings a calmness with that experience and that quality into
the squad and what it does, it just adds to

(02:20):
the depth.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
You know, we want to see he is in India
without him, which is pretty amazing. You know, if you'd
said your best player won't be there, it's it's hard
to say them, but he wasn't there.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
We did well. He comes back into the squad and
all of a sudden, it just creates probably not for me,
but a selection headache, which I think, you know, I'm
a believer in depth is you know, it creates that
competition for places which just keeps everyone pushing along. So yeah,
awesome to have him back.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
We're talking about selection headaches. Talking point is the last
bowling spot on the side Nathan Smith or or Jacob
Duffy has Has that decision been made yet?

Speaker 3 (02:54):
If I had to tell you that, look, I think
I think Gary Seat in particular as zam Wells probably
leaning one way already, but as I've yet, you know,
it's you know, we've still got one last training and
guys are pushing ther case. I know England have named
they're starting eleven, but you know, we don't normally do
it that way, even though I'm fresh to the role.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
It likes to be sort of a last minute thing.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
So whoever it is, out of Nathan or Jacob, they'll
be ready to go. Both well, Jacob was with us
in India and then the white Ball series in Sri
Lanka and Nathan was there in Sri Lanka with us,
so I've had a bit to do with them already,
seen them in the nets and games. Both you know,
skilled bowlers who are very, very hungry. So whichever way
we go, I'm sure we're going to be okay with

(03:37):
one of those two are coming in and.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
You're new Jacob and the Rollers black Caps Bowling coch,
how have you found it?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
It looks been great.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
I mean, you know, after playing for a while but
a while ago, and being out of the environment and
the team for the better part of about ten years,
even though still involved with currict various levels and then
around that were in New Zealand, around the world, to
actually come back into I suppose what is my passion

(04:06):
you know, the Black Caps and men's cricket out spending
a bit of time in the woman and the women's game,
and it's been awesome. A good bunch of guys, you know,
welcome me back in a little bit of stick from
the likes of society, but that's a given. But it's
been great and it's made me appreciate why these guys
have been so successful for pretty much since I retired,

(04:28):
you know, just the quality they have, how hard they train,
their skill levels, there, their athletic and it's been awesome
to come back in and just try and help them
in the direction they've carved out over the last decade.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
It's the difference between say the White Ferns and going
into the Black Caps, as they're much of a difference
coaching the two teams.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, yeah, there is. I mean probably that would need
another interview to go through them all.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
But I mean the obvious one is the physical attributes,
but you know, around power and pace.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
But you know, after a short period the women's.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Game, I appreciate it and that's just natural and that's
just the difference and the finer details of the men's
and women's game.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
They are what they are, and you I don't want.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
To say it's a different game, but it's just played differently,
you know, like score. You know, a twenty twenty game,
god men need to be scoring one sixty, one eighty
and the women's fixture, you know, one forty might be
a winning scored. It's about the nuances around how you're
going to, you know, unpick the game, how you're going
to take it, what it's, how you're going to you know,
defend runs, how you're going to find a boundary of
the death, those sort of things. But the bottom line

(05:34):
is that both genders both SAIDs male and female. At
the end of the day that you know, the drive
and determination and all that stuff is the same, and
I think that's what makes it nice and easy to
be a part of their coaching CENTERP.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well, Jacob, I'll let you go back to the bacon
and eggs. Now, have you breakfast, and good good luck tomorrow, mate.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
I appreciate it. Thank you,
