Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the cricket field to the cows shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
We're certainly getting to the pointy end of our season
in the Provincial Rugby competition, last round of Bunnings ENDPC.
But this weekend we have a grand final, the Farah
Palmer Cup Final FMG Stadium, twelve thirty five tomorrow afternoon
out of Hamilton. We'll see Waikato host Canterary live here
we'll have a commentary on gold Sport. Joining us on
the CSB this morning. Coach of the White cutto side

(00:29):
James Sample Morning, James.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Morning, BK. How are you mate?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Great mate? How are you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yeah, no, it's pretty excited. Had our last training last
night and sober to the girls now, so pretty excited
to see how we go. Tomorrow should be a good
opportunity for us.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
First year for you back in charge of the side
that you took to the title back a few years ago.
Now back I think twenty twenty one, you've had stops
at the Blues. You've been coaching in the stage as well.
So how are you enjoying being back in the Mighty
White Cattle?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I absolutely loving it. Thanks. Yeah, I really love this
team and obviously loved this region as well. We've got
amazing players and that kid deeply about the jersey, so
sort of fit it back and seamlessly and just excited
that we sort of get another opportunity to fight for
a premiership again.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Let's talk about your season so far. You had one
blimp I think on the record this year when you
came up against Cannery back in week two, going down
ten to seven. So that was just a little blimp, right, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
So lost them down their early doors, and honestly, I
reckon it's the best thing that could have happened to us.
We've got lots of lessons around the special game management
and just how we get out of pressure and things
like that. So and we responded really well, took lots
of learnings and yeah, we've been progressing forward each week.
So yeah, hopefully we can do that again tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
And since that last James, you've scored over forty plus
points in almost every game, some games as high as sixty.
So it was the kick and the bum I guess
the team needed. Really that loss, wasn't it.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
It was made and you always have to reflect on yourself,
both players and management as well, which we did that.
We had the bye week after that, so that came
at a really good time. But yeah, we have scored
some big points, but we're under no illusions that's finals
footy this weekend. It's probably not going to be like that.
So yeah, we're prepared for a really tight tussle between

(02:21):
us and Canterbury as per usual.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
And I guess, you know, for both teams of Black
Ferns in Canada at the moment playing in the WXV
one competition. So how heavily affected has your side been
with players been called up to the Black Ferns.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Oh, we've actually got three Black Ferns over there at
the moment, so I guess compared to Canterbury, we don't
lose as many players as them to the Blackburns. But
in saying that, it is what it is. You know,
every team sort of doubt the same hand, and yeah,
you've just got to play play with the players you've got,
and we're obviously really excited about the group we've got.

(02:56):
We've got very talented, hard working individuals that, like I
said before, want to bleed and die for the jerseys.
So yeah, we're just excited to kuess what Canterbury's gone
and see who comes out on top.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
You've got any injury concerns going into the game, No.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Mate, we're all pretty good. Like our physio and medical
team's done awesome jobs throughout the season to manage us.
So yeah, we're pretty much at full streamp for this weekend.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
James looking at the state of the game in New
Zealand with women's rugby when the Black Fans aren't playing
in the Farah Pahma competition, do we have the talent
coming through?

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah? Mate, Yeah, one hundred percent. There's so much talent
coming through. I think just with the growth of the
women's game. I guess what the Black Fans said in
the twenty twenty two will cut. There's so much talent
coming through. And as we know from both the men's
and women's game, we have a lot of natural talent
in New Zealand and it's just about enhancing that and
given some really good standards and throwing their skill sets

(03:55):
to be better and understand the game. And No, I
think New Zealand Rakan is a great place and we
just need to keep harnessing that and make sure we
make some really good decisions around what individuals and structures
we're putting around competitions to make sure we set the
country and those individuals up for success.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Fantastic, So the find itself tomorrow. James canerby last week
scraping through against counties to book their spot in tomorrow's final.
What will your side, the way Cato need to do
to make sure the trophy stays in Hamilton for the
off season.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
I thankful Arsen. We've sort of talked about it all season.
It's always us versus us, Like if we're our best
versions of ourselves and we turn up and play our
brand of footy and go out there and win it
rather than just thinking it's going to happen, that's all
that matters to us. So it's pretty much just playing
our foody to the best of our abilities, and I
think if we do that, everything will take care of itself.

(04:50):
And if we do that, play our best boody and
we're not good at us, then we can live with that.
It's just if we turn up and sort of be complacent,
which I have no doubt that we we won't do that.
So you made all about our footy tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Good stuff. That's good coach talk mate. Hey nice, nice
to chat. Go well tomorrow in the final.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Awesome mate, thanks very much.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
James Semple joining us by Katto coach up against Canterbury tomorrow.
As I said a live commentary here on Gold Sports.
