Speaker 1 (00:00):
International rugby coverage on the Country Sport Breakfast is proudly
brought to you by Access Solutions, elevating you and your
business to a higher level. We're heading into the All
Black camp now on the Country Sport Breakfast, where the
All Blacks will play their final home Test of twenty
twenty four Saturday night out of Wellington Sky Stadium up

(00:20):
against the Alfoes Australia. Joining us on the CSB this
morning is the man wearing the number twenty jersey off
the bench, Luke Jacobson.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Morning, Luke, morning, thanks having me on.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
From twenty one zip up to winning thirty one twenty
eight last Saturday in Sydney. I'm sure the team have
sat down with the coaches watching the video of the match.
What were the big takeaways out of last week's performances, Luke.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, Look, obviously we got off to a really good start.
It's exactly how you want to start a Test match.
But the thing with the old is they always stayed half,
They stay in and then never write them off. Probably
a little bit of unfortunate thing for us. We failed
to capitalize on quite a few opportunities that we had

(01:08):
created which probably would have put them out of the game.
But I guess there's test match footy though, got to
be on for the eighty minutes to be able to
put them home.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
We're still looking for an eighty minute performance. Haven't had
that one yet. Did it take you off guard the
fight that the Wallabies showed last week.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
No. I think historically they've always they've always stayed in it.
They've never counted themselves out. We had a few pretty
good players that we managed to score off. And you know,
momentum in game shifts, but you're just going to be
able to adapt to that. Obviously, ideally it doesn't shift
that much, but I mean, let's still start to come

(01:52):
away off the one that's the moment.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Have you been coming off the bench for most tests
in twenty twenty four, no tray scored the team in
the last twenty minutes and the last five test matches.
Have you guys been able to put a finger on
what hasn't been working in the last quarter of each test?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, I think it's combination of things. It doesn't help
when you're playing with fifteen men like we were on
the weekend and you look back over if you're the
last tests and it's probably costing us a player out
on the field, playing with a man down, making it
tough to small points in a combination of other things.
But if you're looking at the game on the weekend,

(02:32):
we're pretty pretty under the pump pretty much. I think
it's more around our accuracy and how we apply ourselves
to what we're doing. I don't think it's been a
major issue. There's a couple of unlucky instinctial sort of

(02:52):
penalties last week, but yeah, look, we're definitely looking a
bit a bit more in that space and not give
away those kennal is that put pressure on the ref
lead into possible cards.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
And what was the professor Wayne Smith? What did he
bring to the camp this week?

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Then he was in for the first couple of days.
He's off now, But of him and ask some jig questions.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
You personally, lek just starting the one test this year
against Fiji, all the rest off the bench. How close
do you think you are to grabbing that starting jersey?
I mean, what do you think in your game needs
to be tidied up so you can.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I'm not sure you probably ask the man up top
for that one. Look, I just got to keep trying
to ad impact off the bench. Come on, do my
role really really well and I guess be accurate on
what I'm doing. I mean, look, it would be nice
to be starting, but there's also some players in front
of me playing really really well and just got to

(03:57):
be patient and that sort of thing and keep doing
controlling what I can control and hopefully something like that
comes as a result of just me doing my job
really well.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Tomorrow, late final game in New Zealand for twenty twenty
four Skuys Stadium, a place that the All Blacks have
not won at for six years, which is amazing. Has
that been spoken about?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, yeah, we've talked about a little bit this week. Look,
it's obviously the capital of New Zealand and it's an
awesome stadium to play it, but we haven't quite given
it the results that it deserves. So we'll just sort
of touched on a little bit this week. Had a
few Wellington boys get up and speak and just let

(04:39):
us know how much, you know, the Wellington region means
to them and tie into that. It's a home game
for us and we should there should be a home advantage,
but there's no reason why we can't go out there
and perform like we do lys fay Eden Park and.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Of course it's going to be a special light for
Sam Caine playing his one hundredth test. Sam has been
a big influence on your game. Talk us through how
he's helped you in the chief side and now in
the All Blacks.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah, really really stokes for them to be able to
bring up the Hondy. A lot of respect for him, yep.
I got to know him and the Chiefs. He's pretty
much well, he's keptain when I came in, so I
went through the it has been a young player and
then moving up the ranks and sort of leading below him,
and I'm learning more of their leadership role of him

(05:31):
as well, and then in the All Blacks as well,
been a leader in this environment, but also just the
way he plays, you know you gets out there, just
leads by example, gets his head in the dark places.
I mean, the inspiring sort of player and also leader.

(05:53):
I think there we go.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Luke Jacobson joining us. Luke, thank you very much, and
of course a live commentary of the All Blacks versus
Australia out of Sky Stadium in Wellington with Elliott Smith
making the call seven o'clock on Saturday nights dead rubber,
but it's still it's always good watching the ABS and
Australia going head to head
