Speaker 1 (00:00):
Spot, the latest from the Land and just great rock.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary, Heartland Rugby on the show
now where Hottafanua Kapadi and South Canterbury are going to
play a special match at Eden Park in Auckland on
Sunday twenty second of September, day after my birthday. Joining
us on the show this morning. South Canterbury CEO term Heightsmith, Mornington,
(00:28):
you're a bit out of her, out of your region
here playing a game at mount at Eden Park. How
did this come about?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Corey from Carey from Half an Hour Campany invited us
because it's their home game and so we were going
up to playing Levin and he suggested that we go
up and play in Auckland and Jared Bay from Auckland
Rugby has made this happened.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Gee was I mean? This a long long way from
company Hordifonuur. Why did they decide to have that game there?
Speaker 1 (01:00):
I think to be honest, there last few years they've
played down in Dnedin and Wellington and they've been just
giving their players an opportunity to experience playing in some
of the biggest stadiums and they've provided us along.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah. I mean it's a great opportunity for you guys.
How do you feel about heading north to the big
smoke to play at Eden Park.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
I look, the boys are very excited and along with
the coaching group and so as the local community. Obviously
we had to pick up earlier in the year with
a bit of funding we couldn't do the antity shield,
but majority of funds so this is already allocated and
we've had a great response from the local community. We've
been selling off the back of the jerseys and to
help fund the extra a bit of air fairs which
(01:40):
is three thousand dollars and obviously have a night's accommodation.
So we've sold off twenty of the twenty three jerseys
all right so far and we've only got one day
to go and we'll look like we'll get there and
that will help fund us to get up there.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
That's a really cool idea actually selling off the jersey
so anybody, whether it's a business or an individual, can
actually have their name on the jury see for that
match on September twenty second.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, correct, And they've got a combination of both businesses
and individuals, you know, so it's really exciting. So they
get a jersey as well, and the players will get
to play on one, and we'll have the special day
on the jersey, and then we've offered for the jerseys
that the sponsors get that the players will sign them
as well.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
How much is it for to have your name on
the remaining jerseys.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Twix hundred dollars plus gust.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
That's not bad. So you get your name on the jersey,
which will feature on TV obviously, and we'll see you
get a free jersey out of it that could be signed. Correct,
Good deal mate?
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, well, you know, we're making your things accessible and easy,
and you know, we've got a wonderful local community down here,
and so yeah, they're getting them behind our boys.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
What's the feeling like locally then about this game at
Eden Park? I mean, there's going to be obviously a
charter flight for fans to fly up there as well.
Is there a lot of interest?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Not quite a charter flight that there's a lot of interest.
A lot of people have been booking their flights up
there that I've said, So that's that's great, But no,
I know that's all TRD of flight. We're flying out
of christ.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Each fantastic September twenty second, it's going to be a
real cracker. Hey, let's talk about the season to date
as well. Three from three so far. You'd be happy
with how the boys have been going.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yes, Yeah, the boys have been track along really well.
For this game against Wanganui was a cup of signments,
but we just to make the due by at one point.
And yeah, the boys are slowly building through. I've had
a great weekend up at ash Burtain against Mid Canbury
last Saturday were five of our teams played five of
their teams and so it was a great face of
(03:37):
the regular right across all the greats.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Incredible, you're going for an incredible four titles in a row.
I mean, have you been able to put your finger
on why you guys South Keneby Region have been so
successful of late.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
I think it's just a combination of the players and
the coaching group and believing in each other and the
team culture and they're left to play for each other
and it's just just really exciting to be bold with.
This is my second season down here and just coming
into the environment you can just see the connection with
the players and of the coaching group and the local community.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
And the cool thing is Heartland Rugby is purely amateur,
isn't areen? Nobody gets paid. You're all out there playing
for the love of the game.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
That's correct. Yep, yep, they certainly do. They have to
take a day off work on a Friday when we
travel away and yeah, so they will get them behind
it and really enjoy the comraderie ship and play for
each other.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Fantastic. Well, I think those three jerseys will be snapped
up pretty quickly actually, and I think it's a great idea.
So all the very very best and Tim, thanks for
joining us on the show today.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Good luck, thanks very much, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Absolute pleasure. So that match Sunday, twenty second of September,
Heartland Rugby out of Eden Park, South Canterbury are playing
Hoto Finu Capiti and it'll be a triple header because
the far Apartment Cup teams Auckland Storm are playing Hawks Bay.
That kicks off at eleven thirty five and it'll be
followed by Auckland playing so Outland in their NPC match
(05:01):
at five past two, and then it's followed by the
Heartland Game. I think that's absolutely amazing.
